Setting
With the exception of his kepi on the desk behind him and his loosened tie, he still looked the part of a reichspost worker, though the slight string of drool ushering from the corner of his mouth did seems a little unbecoming. It didn't last though as he was soon shaken from his doze, the dim lighting of the place brightening with the arrival of his wife, who seemed to be a bit more in-tune with her upbringing today. "Hmm? Oh... yes." He answered rather dully, still shaking the sleep from his eyes as he glanced to her, smiling after wiping his mouth quickly with his sleeve.
He spent the whole day, once they let him go, running. Might've been part of why he was so tired today. Still, things were as they were. His uniform would be fine for going to shop, or so he assumed, even with the slight influence of Alke on it.
Alke. Thistle. It was hard to get used to that.
"You said you were hungry, and my house was closer than any of the good places to eat. Come on! Erich may be home, so you might get to meet him." she declared happily, and called out for her husband. "Eh-rich!" She just managed to say the 'r,' though only barely.
Striding over without thinking, he approached and stood(he never got tired of that) by the counter, waiting to make sure she wasn't carrying anything. Oh how he longed for that, a chance to carry something for her for a change. However, there seemed to be something he wasn't expecting, a companion of hers, who he greeted with a nod, somewhat embarrassed to be so casually dressed with a stranger present, "Pardon me, I didn't know Alke would be bringing company..."
"Wh- Oh! Erich. I know, I'm incredibly lucky. He's amazing. Erich, this is my friend Nixie, Nixie, my husband Erich." Alke looked happily to inroduce them. "She's got a pretty name, doesn't she?"
"Nixie is a therapist! She helps soldiers feel better about themselves, because war can be hard." ALke explained and smiled brightly. Oh yeah. Someone was clueless.
Nixie blinked at this. The happy scene wasn't somethign she was used to seeing. Perhaps this was why Alke was so very different from the other soldiers she knew of. She had a very happy home life, that much was clear.
Did it matter?
They weren't Erutin anymore, they were Belkan, and Belkans didn't change shape. It would be fine. She stared a moment, then sobbed and threw herself at him in a hug. "Steel!" Her twin was home, her brother here. No more agonizing waiting, hoping against hope that he would survive, would be okay. "I'm sorry, so sorry. I broke everything, I couldn't do it, I'm sorry."
She had lost them their empire, after all. It had been theirs together, even if he was busy with the Belkans. And now? Now, they were a great house, a Belkan house, rather than an entire Empire. "I'm so sorry. I missed you so much."
