Such thoughts gave him a flash of hope, to be able to walk again -- truly walk, and not hobble about -- the thought thrilled him, and not only that, but he could fly! What a concept... "That would be nice, perhaps... perhaps I could fly on one of your worlds? But, Alke, this talk..." He paused for a moment, not entirely sure how to broach the subject, the words having just rolled off his tongue without giving it much thought, he glanced about, avoiding her gaze as he tried to piece something together, "... it's gotten me thinking. Why not... why not get married?" He almost immediately regretted suggesting such a thing, no doubt thinking of her immediate rejection, "... we've both thought of the idea, I'm sure. At least, I know I have."

Erich returned her gesture, though he took her other hand and did the same with it, smiling at her, it really baffled him how sudden she could be at times. He chuckled at the thought, though it was mostly an attempt to hide the joy that he was feeling at the moment, and the apprehension. He knew he loved her, and wanted to spend his life with her, it was just... would he walk down the isle with this limp? Such a doubt didn't linger long in his mind as he looked to her, however, and his strength was redoubled, "Well, depending on the ceremony, there might be... but," with a glance, he looked to the clock on the wall, not that such was really necessary, the churches being open at all hours, "We could get married any time... there'd just be less pomp..."

Thistle stood, helping him stand as she did so. "You don't have to ask. I'd have helped either way." She promised and kissed his cheek, the kissed two fingers and touched his leg with them. "It's what brought us together, Erich. Never be ashamed of this leg." She told him firmly. She helped him stabilize slightly and smiled. "Want me to grab your cane?"

Thistle grabbed the cane and then helped him straighten out his uniform so he was presentable, fixing her own dress. she shook the fabric twice and it became slightly shorter in length so she could walk easier, and tapped the heels of the shoes together, so they were now flats. she wasn't about to kill herself on the way there. "Nanite tech in the cloth. Like I said. Mom changes the regalia all the time, so we just let her change the settings."

Erich bumped his shoulder against hers playfully at such a suggestion, and soon started, exiting the door quickly, despite his disability. He was eager to be off to the church, and after making his way outside and punching in the lock-code for the door, he offered her his arm, his eyes drawn to her dress, which still struck him as rather dazzling on her, only having seen her in either civilian dress or her uniform, nothing so formal or elegant.

Thistle blushed as she took his arm. "You like this dress entirely too much." She informed him staunchly as they walked on. "It's not as if I'm not in dresses enough." She thought out loud. "Perhaps it's the formal attire bit that gets you. I'll have to remember that." She was loving the attention though. He seemed almost shell shocked at her outfit.

He tugged her tighter with his arm as she suggested that he favored the dress, and with a sly glance he responded, "You do have me pinned down rather well, and I do have a thing for formalities..." He was enjoying the walk, not because of the scenery or the beautiful sunset, which was framed with Thalheim's triple moons, but because of the woman on his arm. Even at their sluggish pace, both because of their desire to take quite a while and his injury, they arrived at the church, the same one that Erich had brought Thistle to for sermons. With s sigh, he looked to the doors, and asked, "Well... ready?"

Thisttle adjusted her clothes back to how they were and gave him a smile. "How could I not be? I love you, and wnat you by my side." this would change a whole world of things, wouldn't it. A whole world. She couldn't wait.

Erich leaned over, brushing his cheek against hers as she spoke, and after finishing, he slowly began to ascend the stairs, assisted both by his cane and his love. The doors swung open rather easily, and the place was rather desolate, save for a priest beginning to snooze behind his pulpit. Gingerly, Erich approached, finally announcing as they neared him, "We'd like to be married, sir."

He awoke rather suddenly, the portly man apparently used to there being little traffic at this time of day, and it took a moment for him to realize just what it was being asked. With a curious glance, first to the couple and then to his chronometer, he asked, "So, do you want the short version, or the drawn-out one?"

Erich looked to Thistle, allowing her to choose.

Thistle looked to Erich, uncertainly. Well, they could always have an elaborate cermeony another time, if they must. For now, a short private ceremony between the two of them was mroe than enough. "If possible, the short version, sir." She said and squeezed Erich's hand. "Please." She didn't want to wait, after all. It wasn't as if they wouldn't have enough pomp and circumstance during their lifetime.

Thistle glanced down as well, almost humbly. This, though she didn't worship Kampf, was a holy act and even she, a non-believer, could tell. The priest turned to her and spoke. "Do you, Alke Nimitz, take Erich Brenner to be your loving husband, to pledge your troth to upon pain of death and eternal damnation?"

Yes, one hundred thousand times yes! "I do." she said, voice firm and sure on this, and just a little excited.

Erich returned the gesture, embracing her ecstatically beneath the holy triad as their lips met, he was still trying to grasp that she was his, and he hers, now. He'd have to buy rings, and where would they live?... Not that it mattered. The only thing that mattered to him now was in his arms, the love of his life, and he felt a fire in him that had been lacking since his days in the cockpit. Drawing away after a moment, he spoke, teasingly, "'Evening, Mrs. Brenner."

He was excited somewhat by her suggestion, and his cheeks burned for a moment as he looked to her, his spare arm wrapped around her waist, and he answered her with a smile, "If that's what you'd like, Alke. I'll even cook us supper..." He turned to walk down the aisle, starting such by climbing down from the slight stairs they had been kneeling on, "Do you have anywhere to be tomorrow?"

"I can spend it with you. Corbett was merely going to cover paperwork with me, and I need to get more from him...but not really." She confessed. "Shall I take a leave of absence?" she asked and gave him a smile. She certainly wouldn't mind at all.

He chuckled at that, finding it rather humorous, "It's been some time since that name's been on a service tag, but you're quite right. I'm sure the Emperor would be quite pleased that it'd be such... I know I am." It was an odd thought, his miniscule apartment now being the home of both he and Alke, his wife... he still had a hard time wrapping his head around that, how wonderful it was to finally be able to say that. If she would like, they could even file for reproduction permits -- but, that would be up to her, not he.

Alke wasn't thinking of children right now at all. Instead, she was thinking of her husband. Her husband. She giggled, overcome with joy. "Mr. Brenner. I think you should know that your wife couldn't be happier." she said pleased. She was more than a little pleased to be married to him. More than! Married to an amazing men like this. She wanted him all to herself for awhile.

"Every day." she promised and pressed her lips to his, then glanced to the door. "Let's go in. I think you have things to teach me, don't you?" She teased and looked him over, being very obvious about it.

"Heil Kampf. Your papers please?" They were told that this one hadn't been initiated into the Hegemony's system, the barcodes, and that struck Hilsner as being incredibly odd, though he knew better than to ask many questions when the LW was involved. He held out his hand to the boy, who also lacked a proper uniform yet, they'd have him issued some fatigues here before too long, awaiting his information.

Joachim took the papers in his hand and immediately looked to the name, for ease of communication. Henri Fritz, it seemed. Good, that made things a great deal easier. Flipping idly through the boy's papers, he soon closed them, handing them back to him, pointing to an empty seat further back in the class. "Your seat's up there, Fritz." He then raised his voice to address the class as a whole, "Since our new comrade was delayed by our own staff, there will be no punishments, however, do not expect such a thing should there be no good reason to warrant it. Welcome comrade Henri Fritz, platoon."

Hneri nodded, not wanting to know what punishment might have happened. The boy hurried to his seat, and wondered how much longer this school thing was. He was already bored, and he was pretty sure he didn't need school to shoot, and didn't need school to work on bikes. All he wanted to do was kick scraper butt and build hoverbikes. What did this place have that Gadget didn't?

Uniforms. It definitely had uniforms.

Hilsner waited until Henri was in his seat before he began the day, coming to a stance of parade rest in his own mouse-gray fatigues, standing roughly in the center of the classroom before bellowing out, "Angetraten!" Almost immediately the other children shot to their feet, their heels snapped together and their chests out, boy and girl alike. "Augen... rechts!" The command was issued so that all would look to the flag for their oath, and Joachim returned to the front of the class before beginning.

Joachim left the oath up to the student body, looking to them as they recited their daily devotion as was proper. He took a position of parade rest, his own eyes laying on the flag as well, turned to the left as they started, "I swear by this solemn oath that to the leader, God and avatar of the Belkan empire and people, Josef Kampf, my eternal liege-lord, that I shall render unconditional obedience to him and that," They paused at this, as they were trained. "... at any time, I am bound to give my life by this oath, should He demand it."

Henry didn't know the words, so was a step behind, just enough that he spoke during the pause. the boy turned bright red at this, and hoped no one knew this. At least Mom had made certain he could speak the language, though he only remembered falling asleep on the table. The boy didn't really think about the words he had spoken, mostly going through the motions as he learned his way though this hell hole.

Once they had finished, Hilsner waited for the typical moment of silence, standing observant over his small comrades as they offered a moment for those who came before, all who had fallen to make their lives possible. With a snap of his own heels, they still stood at the ready, and Joachim set them about the day's task, the first being physical training. "Fall out by section. Eight laps of the school's circuit." He was, of course, referring to the school's central, circular hallway. He accompanied the first company, which Henry was attached to, and easily met their stride.

By section? Henry decided just to follow the kid in front of him. What were they doing? Laps? what was a- Oh hell. Running. Eight laps. Well, they weren't big kids, so surely the laps were big laps. He could do this. It was like riding a bike, just had to keep the pace steady.
