Setting
His day was long, as usual, what with the monotony of his work, though her sickly condition didn't help things, and already it seemed that time was flying by now that he was back with her, where he could, or so he thought, help.
Returning now to his side of the bed, he sat, glancing to her with a smile as he sat, leaning his back against the headboard, he soon cracked open the tome and began on a random story, the tale of a planetary lieutenant who relayed medicine for a colony under threat of pirates through several hazardous star systems. Such exciting days those were, before the posh times of the new age...
Buying her something was a challenge, usually, now more than ever as a bouquet of flowers might just reintroduce another pathogen which would just start the wonderful ordeal all over again. Instead, he'd simply decided to pick up a rather generous box of treats, assorted candies and the like. Hopefully that'd soften the news of what he'd been investigating today after work.
Still clad in his navy blue uniform as he came through the door, he kept the box tucked under his arm as he arrived, striding into the kitchenette and placing the box onto the counter as he announced his arrival with a moderate tone, not looking to see where ever his wife was, rather working more towards coming up with something to say concerning his delay, "I'm home."
She might not take a liking to his other news, but he'd wait on that, for now. "Your day wasn't too bad, I hope?" Work today passed rather slowly, as always, now not only because of his wife, but of the off-chance visit to the recruiters office that he also paid...
"It was rather interesting. I-" He paused, "I stopped by the recruiters office."
He wasn't going to join was he? She didn't want to lose her love!
He tried to disarm her apprehension with a warm smile, "Alke, I could stay here and fly as part of the planetary reserve. It'd be no different than your service in the LW." It pained him to see her so distressed, and such was likely visible on his face, "If you don't want it... please tell me."
"Comfort me?" She murmured, holding him close, and swaying slightly. "I can do this, can support you in this. But..comfort me?" Two weeks. that was a terribly long time.
He pressed his head and cheek against hers once again, her meager presence welling up feeling in his breast, "I can't be reckless anymore, not with the beautiful woman waiting for me here. It would devastate me if I let her down..."
As if she needed the help.
There was a slight rush to him as she made the suggestion, not really expecting the quick transition from her worrying only moments prior to this, though that didn't keep him from it. Returning the expression he stepped up, reaching purposefully over her shoulder to reach the uniform, brushing close to her as he did.
"If I must." He responded, playing coy himself. It was most refreshing to have her back to her usual self, away from that dreadful state on the bed with the IV and the machines.
