The Multiverse

Setting

The sight that greets you is rather fitting for the underground demesne of the Undermarket, a match to the flickering sign out front. Dimly lit, well worn tables and chair seem almost haphardly strewn around the room. The furniture shows signs of being in more than a few brawls, pits, gouges, and scratches marring the wood. Light comes from sconces lit with various colored flames, casting their fitful glows over the mismatched décor. Almost seedy, the tavern you find yourself in, but more, there's a strange air to the scene.

A wraith, Molk, serves drinks at the counter, glowing emerald hands appearing to mix drinks, serve, and take payment, while the rest of him remains unseen. The odd patron gets tossed out on their ass, seemingly by nothing more than gleaming crimson hands, courtesy of the bouncer wraith, Tholk. The clientele seems rougher. Looking further into the room, a bit of graffiti marks the wall, the symbol of an inhuman skull backed by unusual crossbones. Above, a balcony office is visible.

Note: on some timelines, this location was destroyed (and rebuilt on others still).
Spoiler: show
A desolate ruin, met with a final fate.

Lylend has waist length straight raven black hair usually left free flowing. Her bangs are the full length of her hair are often worn over her uncommon emerald eyes with silver specks in them about the emerald coloring. A trait her kin knows not of how she came to these unnatural eyes. She was born with them, but no one in her bloodline has any idea how they came to be so with neither emerald nor silver eyes running in her family. Rumors spread of her mother cheating on her father, but nothing could be proven. She stands a lithe 5 foot 7 inches. She wears her favorite colors constantly in her wardrobe, blue, black and green. She always wears a sterling silver pentagram necklace on an 18 inch sterling silver chain about her size 38 c breasts. She has a particular style of Celtic, Gothic, and modern dress. She wears a velvet black shirt with the sleeves flaring into a dark blue net that matches the color of the night sky. Her legs are accent by a pair of black flare leg jeans. An equipment belt as she calls it wraps through the loop of her pants about her size 16 in pants waist. The jeans worn long to cover her lengthy supple legs that have much power behind them. A pair of emerald crescent moon gemstones hang from a clear quartz bead that dangle from the sterling silver hook earring. A pair of calf high flatte black leather boots with a 1/2 inch heal dawn her feet. About her wrist wrap two bracelets each. On the left wrist wraps a rose quartz gemstone bracelet and a black onyx gemstone bracelet. On her right wrist dawns a tiger's eye gemstone bracelet and a bloodstone gemstone bracelet. Her hands are mostly cover in black suede fingerless gloves for when combat comes her way. Her skin is a medium to light ivory which only makes her eyes stand out even more.

She walked in through the front door and looked at the vacant bar. "So much for this being a popular place since Gambit's went under." She muttered softly to herself as she strode to the nearest corner's table.

One moment he was not, and then the next he was. A man of slightly more than average height, his features sharp, brilliant azure eyes scanning about the room around him. Flicking an idle strand of his white hair from his face, he nodded at the few regulars huddled in the dim corners of the room. Leaning against the odd skull and crossbones on the wall, he called to the empty air behind the counter. "Molk, toss me a Mountain, would you?"

A gleaming emerald hand appeared, seizing a bottle and tossing it across the room, Jegun deftly catching and twisting the cap from its top. Casually dressed as he was, he seemed to fit the odd elements of the room. Eccentric decor, mismatched tables and chairs, the multihued lights of the tavern reflecting strangely off his pale skin. And then his eyes found a familiar form...

Jegun walked over, sliding easily into a chair next to the woman. "Fancy seeing you here."

A soft smile formed on her face as a sweet but daring look glanced a brief moment into her eyes. "Ah, Jegun...correct?" She asked softly. As she spoke a par of elongated fangs flashed slightly. "What do I owe the pleasure of your company tonight?" She scanned the bar looking at what few people were there and seemed almost bored with the place. She then turned her attention to the stranger she had met before who had suddenly reappeared before her as if he had been tracking her this whole time since she left the Gambit's Tavern last time they had spoken but briefly. "I had heard some gossip since Gambit's had closed that this was the new happening place. But it seems a bit...well...dead? So what brings you to follow me so eloquently here as if stalking me?" A slight hint of teasing coazed in her voice with her last question.

Jegun's smile was somewhat ironic, as he gestured around. "Truth be told, I own the place, though don't pass it around. The Penance isn't quite what you think."

Winking, he chilled the ale in hand, taking a sip. "Sure, it's not as flashy as the Vaugr over in Verinette, but when you operate out of the Undermarket, you tend to sacrifice a little in clientele. Unless, of course, you happen to be of the right...personality. We're an odd folk down here."

A soft almost mocking giggle came from her lips as a smooth melody almost. "Oddity I can handle dear Jegun. And truth be told I'm shocked that the owner isn't more...well...'hands on'...with it clientele." She offered a smile with just her lips refusing to allow her fangs the refuge of visibility they craved so dearly since she had been in slumber for a while now and was actually in need to feed.

"So as owner, what would you suggest for a lady to have a good time and a good drink?" Her voice almost coy and teasing as if hinting at underlying requests within her proposition for his best advice. Her eyes were a little colder than usual, but still held the fluidity they usually did.

She propped her chin on her hand on the table as if to issue her boredom to her host.

"Well, we do have moderate forms of entertainment, such as the target board, the card table, and the pool table. And my particular favorite..." With a chuckle, he rocked back his drink and pitched the empty glass across the room. The sounds of sharply indrawn breaths as the regulars poked their heads up. "Molk! Boomstick."

Those glowing hands reappeared, this time cradling an arcanely crafted blunderbuss. Quick as a viper, the yawning bore tracked and blasted the glass with a oddly muted report, viper green hellfire catching the flung missile. A chorus of cheers and awhs, as Jegun returned his attention to Lylend. "Bar Pigdeons. Try as we might, Molk has a damned perfect record."

Shaking his head, he smiled, baring teeth with oddly enlongated canines of his own. Gesturing behind the bar, he shrugged. "As to drinks, well, we have virtually anything you could ask for. On the house, this time." Leaning closer, his voice pitched down as he spoke.

"Of course, the real fun is a more, interesting side of the Penance. The regulars now something more happens here, but they know enough not to ask and not to talk about it."

She offered a soft applaud to the shot well done by this "Molk" whoever....or in this case she figured whatever "Molk" was. "Who is...or maybe best...what is 'Molk'?" She asked softly to him.

A soft glint of devious personality dawned in her eyes as her leaned forward towards her. "Cute fangs...do they play nicely?" Her tone was insinuatingly devious as she spoke, yet her voice still held it's usual musical melody.

She glances to each of the items he made mention of then looked curiously at the last. She offered a smile to show off her fangs as well. "A fine Bloodwyne would be amazing right now. You and the others seem to not really care about flashing who you are without fear of report or confrontation." She glanced at him with a curious look. Then it changed to calm as usual.

"I am curious of something to say the least my dear Jegun. Would you be so kind as to offer me audience and due to a request in my curiosity towards your tavern?" She asked softly.

Glowing hands prepared Lylend's drink, Jegun rising and offering an arm. A smirk suffused his face, the man bowing slightly. "Why certainly, Lylend. Molk is our resident bartender, a wraith. Certainly gets a kick out of startling the newcomers. His brother, Throlk, is somewhere around here. He's our bouncer."

Once she had risen and taken his arm, the ex-mercenary leaned in, whispering. "And to your second question, depends on the setting."

Striding towards the odd painting on the north wall, he slid his hand against the surface, leaning against it. "I trust you can keep a secret, Lylend?"

She nodded politely to the brothers and thanked them for the drink. She rose and took Jegun's arm, almost surprised by the mannerism of gentlemanly behavior this brute man seemed to have. though she was not sure as to how genuine his suave behavior was, she knew if he turned foul she could handle herself.

"Well firstly, yes I can keep a secret dear Jegun. Second my dear Jegun, I am not sure if you follow my request correctly with your suave benevolent behavior my good and dear Jegun. Such and undermarket bar far is opposed to such benevolent means to an owner. So my curiosity peeks with this my dear Jegun. Upon your tavern's name 'The Penance' is an odd choice even for an undermarket tavern. This some tract for which you re-compensate for your sins of early years before you stood present before me?" He voice was fluid and suave with a hint of curiosity bridled by uncertainty of his desires to her secrecy being brought to a room with him.

He quickly pushed his way into the tavern, his tired eyes under the mask he was wearing surveying the area. He wanted to make sure that there was no one there that he deemed an immediate danger to his person that he needed to take care of. He had done this so many times that it was like clockwork for him. He needed to relax and this tavern was a good place to do that apparently from what he heard. He moved his elbows a little to keep them from locking up and adjusted the gun on his back, reaching around to make sure that it was secured properly so he could reach it with ease. He then took a deep breath in and exhaled, making his way to a booth in a swift motion that was like a blur, but the strange thing was, he was completely human. Someone like that must have had some training to be that quick, but it was pretty common for the humans around this part to not be completely normal. That was the interesting thing about the planet.

"Need to find a contract, job, offer, trade soon, as I need some credits to get a safe haven in this scumhole of a planet, if I want to survive for much longer" he said with an exhausted, and smooth tone.

He then sat down in the booth, and took another survey of the area surrounding him. He decided he would purchase a drink soon when he figured out what he wanted to drink, as there were a great selection.

"Scotch.....Rum......Vodka.....Rum....." he said and decided on his choice of poison, and got up, making his way over to the counter, and purchasing a bottle of Rum from the bartender, tossing some credits his way and then making his way back to the booth, popping off the cork of the bottle and starting to down the bottle before stopping. He shuddered a little and grimaced.

"Good.......stuff" he stammered out.

The cry of an eagle was heard briefly before the front side window was opened and breeze swept through, out of nowhere appeared a woman dressed in red and black. At her side were two swords, on her back were two more, a bow of silver and dark blue crossed her left shoulder to her right hip, countless knives filled the rest of the seemingly extra swaths of cloth. She went to the bar and looked through the various drinks before settling on two she prefered. Ice cold whole milk, and ice cold Pepsi. After mentally flipping a coin she requested a large glass of Pepsi. The Jellicle Assassin was well suited for such a dangerous location. Taverns of any sort were dangerous to visit.

He took a look around and saw the woman appear in red and black and he raised a brow, and pulled the knife from it's sheathe slowly, from his side and then held it carefully near him to make sure that he was ready just in case the woman tried anything funny. He then took a little swig from the rum and coughed. "Now that is some really good rum, I tell you what." he said with a chuckle and then started drinking more.

"Say, barkeep, give me a run down of what has occurred in this city and if others of my Order have been sighted recently" The woman said. She heard the sliding of a knife but paid it no heed, thinking instead that whomever it was merely was cutting meat in order to have a smaller portion in order to eat.

"Nothing much can be said of recent happenings. Others of the Order, no, I cannot say. I am sorry, but have you checked the Undermarket ?" The barkeep replied with a shake of his head. "I am sorry I am unable to be of much help."

"No, even if I had, then I would have still come to you for more information. Thank you." The woman replied, taking a long gulp of her drink. The caffine hit the spot and seemed to waken the woman slightly and she focused then and asked for some raw deer, Raptordeer if there was any.

Once her order was placed she cast her extreme blue eyes around the tavern. She liked the design of the place. wood paneling, post and beam structure. The design was well thought out indeed. It felt a lot like the Dangerous Tavern back at home. Though not filled with cats and dogs, but mostly empty at this time of day.

He was a little worried, as the woman actually looked like she would be able to hold her own, but he kept his composure and figured out what hew as going to do about the situationa t hand. He got up slowly, and put his gun on the table. He then moved over to her position and sat down next to her. He chuckled and took a swig from the rum, and then grinned at her.

"Well hello there beautiful" he said, trying to act like a drunken idiot which he was not.

It was after a good minute of quiet thought when she was being spoken to. Turning her gaze towards the owner of the voice she took in the male. Typical human male, she thought. He seriously reeks of drink! And yet, he does not look drunk, only smells it. Finally she said, "Tell me. Is that the first thing a man says to a woman when they first meet, or is it different in Human worlds ?" She asked him. Proving for once she was from another planet, but if she was human was an entirely different matter. She sure looked human, but then, there Glamour was very useful for that illusion.

The man just grinned and shook his head, becoming serious, "Tsk task, not all men are like me, or what I appear to be, I am not drunk nor am I one of those kind of men, my name is Milan, and I work for the Detente, pleasure to meet you madam" he said with a formal and polite tone before bowing.

The woman smiled, slightly bowing in his direction she replied, "Redmane, The pleasure is mine." She had a look of a woman born of exerpience, and yet, she was not human, or was she ? It did not matter. Her order soon arrived and she began to eat. The Detente were not an Order she had knowledge of. Nor did she understand what such an order even was for. But the one thing she did know, was that the Jellicle Assassin Order had been around. After all, her meal, Raptordeer, was freshly prepared for her.

Within minutes of her order arriving she had finished it. Along with her drink. She turned to Milan, In a proud yet slightly shy tone she said with out any emotion showing on her face "I am sorry to cut our meeting short, Milan, But I have needs that are most pressing that I must see to. Do take care." With that she stood and left a tip on the bar top before walking towards the front door. Disappearing as she did so as the window exploded open with the rattle of a strong wind and the cry of a eagle as she took flight.

Strolling down the stairs from the upper office, Jegun glanced behind him, beckoning to Lylend. It had been an...interesting night, all things considered. At the sound of his name, however, the man turned his head, a smile lighting up his face.

"Max, how you been?" Bounding down the stairs, he walked up to the newcomer, a taller man of grey hair, hawkish features. One hand slid from his coat pocket, catching Jegun's in a fist bump. Swirling ruby eyes glanced to Jegun, then behind him. One unusual feature completed his appearance, that of a long, orange, scarlet, and gold scarf wound about his next.

"Been alright, took care of those few jobs, then a bit of personnel business. I see you're doing well." He quirked a smirk. Leaning forward, he whispered. "Better luck this time."

Jegun's playful punch in his shoulder was a tad sharp, as he turned back to Lylend. "Lylend, I'd like to introduce you to Maximillion Dirge, one of my group and the "official" owner of the Penance."

She smiled softly without baring fangs, but she had forgotten to remove the blood from her chin. With a polite bow of her head she spoke in her usual soft, melodic tone, "Pleasure...Max...is it okay to call you Max for short?"

She looked to Jegun then back to Max. "Official owner and the stand in?" She says softly in a tease as she points to Jegun with the second title.

She saw the remarkable ruby of his eyes and it almost seemed to contrast ever so sharply against his hawkish features and grey hair. the scarf was almost an eye sore in contrast to him, but seemed to hide a bit of his true nature and steal attention from those eyes of his. She caught herself staring intently into his eyes as if she was unconsciously trying to soul search him. One of her unsavory skills and talents she had earned thanks to her father. She hated doing it unless it was all within her desires to do so. She often saw things she hated to see. She blinked quickly to snap the trance she was almost in and smiled fully baring the slightly elongated fangs without thinking about it at all. She kind of lowered her head hiding a blush to her cheeks from her intent attention.

Max took a bow, smiling. "Completely, Ms. Lylend." The surface of his soul was at first difficult to perceive, until one realized what they looked at was simple. It was fire. Whether he had remarks on the sight of blood, he said not a thing.

Jegun, for his part, chuckled, then motioned subtly to Lylend, wiping at his chin. "Official owner and his silent partner, more like." Taking a document folder Max handed him, he browsed it, then closed it briskly. "Looks good, Max. Next case files on your desk, and best of luck. Funds will be in your account by tonight."

The man nodded, thanked Jegun, and dismissed himself with another bow to Lylend. Striding over to the odd graffiti, he vanished. Jegun watched, then sighed. "A good man, Max. So, anything in particular strike your curiosity or fancy, eh Lylend?"

"Nothing of interest. Just lost into his intriguing ruby eyes and the odd scarf of his is all." Shrugging, Jegun called over to the bar counter. "Bloodwyne and the usual, Molk." While the wraith worked on preparing their drinks, the man drew a few chairs to a table, seating himself and gesturing at the other for the woman. Leaning back, he smiled again, glancing at the one patron languishing in the corner.

"So, Lylend, how has your opinion of myself changed, given our talk?" Though his expression was casual, Jegun was rather interested in her opinion.
