The Multiverse

Setting

A shady market place teeming with activity as vendors peddle their wares to passersby. The Undermarket serves as a haven for thieves, brigands, cutthroats, and shady dealings.

Like the rest of the Undermarket, this marketplace exists as an extra-planar entity that runs parallel to the mortal plane. It can be found underground, deep beneath Wing City. There are no streets or open skies to be found here, and neither police patrols, or access to vehicles are available.

Law enforcement is a near non-existent concept among the denizens of the Undermarket. Should trouble be found, there would be none to call for police assistance (provided you have a phone company that can provide you with service across dimensions), nor any means for police to respond. Hidden far from the view of the the city above, those who venture down into the Undermarket are on their own with nothing more than their wits and a bit of luck in this god forsaken place.

The Undermarket is beyond the reach of normal methods of access. The Undermarket can be entered via the secret entrance in the basement of Gambit's Bar, the Smuggler's Route, and a handful of other obscure points across Wing City. In addition to the established entrance points, numerous one-way exits spill out into the sewers and service tunnels of Wing City. When departing the Undermarket from one of these points there is no tangible change in one's surroundings or perception, but attempts to return the same way will be met with failure as one finds oneself lost in the service tunnels and sewers of Wing City.

RP notes: The best way to describe the Undermarket is as an extra-planar entity that is lain over-top of the sewers and service tunnels of Wing City with multiple points at which a crossover is possible. It is both physically present and not present at the same time. While it is possible for law enforcement to locate entrances to the Undermarket, the metaphysical nature of these entrances means they can be destroyed and new ones created to take their place should the denizens of the Undermarket discover that the police have gained access.

The eyes on his face that formed a frown. "Well, that makes you all useless to me." The monster turned into a twelfth dimensional hypersphere. "No matter. After all, what's the fun in sparing people?" The abomination charged downwards towards the squadron at full force. He spun in all different directions in trying to cause collateral, explosion damage. The monster started laughing again. His laugh reaching deafening levels to try and distract the squad.

The squad son covered their ears from the ear aching noise. This was it...this is where they would meet their grizzly end...they were humble guardsman, there was no way they could last at this moment. However almost like a divine deliverance, an armoured figure soon dropped into view, and challenging his psychic might sent a massive psychic barrier forward to hopefully send the creature back.

The Guardsman could easily tell who their saviour was, the mighty warriors of humanity was here to take over. The captain known as Carnaelegaar. A might space marine. He held a staff in his hands and wore wildly decorated red Power Armor.

R'ystelhar bounced off of the barrier, screeching in surprise. After a few seconds he regained his composure. "Well, this was unexpected." The monster stared at Carnaelegaar. He then broke out into a hearty laugh. As if he knew him for a long time. Though that's impossible, he just got here, he doesn't know anyone. "Well, well. Is it not the renowned Carnaelegaar?" R'ystelhar walked towards it. "I have an eons worth of information about you. Word travels fast in my world."

"So you already know who I am fiend, then that means you know this is where your advance stops here beast. Guardsman, clear the area. I will deal with the demon myself." Carnaelegaar spoke and the men behind him took off, grateful for the assistance.

The captain raised his staff into the air and looked at the beast. "Vile demon...I will send you back from whence you came...For the Emperor I shall smite you down myself." He glared as his psychic powers began to flow.

The monster laughed like a madman. It seemed as though he was enjoying this entire scenario. "You FOOL. I'm not some lowly imp." The creature turned into a platform, covered in eyes, and scooped up Carnaelegaar and flew upward. It seemed as though he split in two because a humanoid person materialized in front of him. "This could have been so simple. So very, very simple. All I needed was whereabouts of the portal and the man that walked out. The one that opened here. I don't need to waste my time with you. All I need is the person who came here. So I'll give you one last chance. Where is it?"

Carnaelegaar remained calm as the creature snatched him up and flew to the skies."You think me scared? If you wish to find the portal man, then do so...when you get sent back to the warp demon!" He roared as he challenged his psychic power and cast Might of the Ancients, suddenly a surge of power went right into him and with that, he launched his retaliation.

He launched a fist, for a normal man he could have hardly kept up with his movement. And with the power of his psychic abilities coursing through him, it was clear that he hated demons.

The creature motioned his arm upward. A wall formed in front of him to prepare for his punch. He sunk into his platform and rose up behind him as yet another eldritch shape. A hole formed at Carnaelegaar's feet. "Look, Carnaelegaar. What do you see? A city? At any given moment I could abandon you up here and lay waste to the citizens. News must travel quicker to you pawns. Are you saying a rip in space and time did not reach your ears? You're a liar. As I've asked before, what is one life, one that is alien to this world, to thousands? Possibly millions? Are you protecting the people from "demons" for other people or only for you? Who hurt you, Carnaelegaar?"

"Silence demon! I will destroy you before you get a chance! You will not harm even the air of the city!" Carnaelegaar roared in anger. "And indeed you can...captain..." A voice echoes in the captains mind.

Only he could hear the voice as time seemed to slow to a crawl for him. Inside the warp, the laws of time were almost non-existent. "Did you forget so...easily captain...You gained power to destroy your enemies...so...very...easily."

"Silence sorcerer! I do not need to use these...powers yet. I will beat him with the aemperos divine gifts!

"Are you so sure captain?...Do you have the time to continue calling on your...psychic powers? You waste your gift Captain...Use your new power...obliterate the creature..."

"I-I-I can do this...I will for the Emperors sake!"

"But this is for his sake...The demon threatens the city...the people...the loyal...servants...of the Emperor himself...Will you risk this?..."

"No...I will not risk their lives. I will kill the demon...I will...tear it to shreds..."

The dark voice laughed which echoed in his mind. [b]"I knew you would come around!...Yes captain...use your new gifts to shatter the creature...make it suffer...until next time..."
The voice laughed once again as it faded away. What a fool this captain was, he would be such a...useful pawn...his very presence will be a great honour for Chaos.

Back in reality, the Space Marine was now sheathed in something...off...his figure was now surrounded with warp energy. Something was off about the human. "Nothing has...hurt me demon...However, something will indeed hurt you..." The man...laughed as he did not just channel his psychic power. He drew from the warp itself now.

The eldritch horror shifted form again. He would smile if he could. "Finally. A challenge." The creature said to himself. He yet again shifted form. The entire platform turned into an inside-out fourth dimensional maze, full of obstacles and perils. "You think yourself clever boy? You've not begin to grasp the true extent of my powers." The maze starts to close in and flip around. "Show me, puny ant. Show me what your people are made of. So that I may assimilate those worthy into me."

"You call this...dimensional maze a challenge? I could breeze through this without a scratch. But enough cowering demon...I grow tired of these games now..." The Captain spoke as he took off his helmet. Using the lens as a miniature mirror he admired his flowing blonde hair. Such handsomeness...why would he hide his face?

Tossing the helmet aside, using the power of the warp itself and with a powerful blast far beyond his normal prowess. It would attempt to shatter the reality surrounding him. His very soul was now feeling the affect of the warp. He was no longer a space marine, no longer a loyal servant, his goals all gone...he now had one thing in mind. More power...and to preserve his beauty.

The monster disintegrated... only to re-materialize away from the now-power hungry space marine. "Now what could have corrupted him enough to make him drop his heroism? Whatever it was, it's of no concern to me. I'll lay waste to the citizens for old times sake and then find the one who walked out of that portal." R'ystelhar then vanished, in hopes of hitting the right spot.

"What a shame...Our venerable Emperor can deal with that trash if he pops up within the city limits. Such...ugliness...That creature is sealing its own fate. It had been interesting to learn that the magical world had rallied enough to have a government and with that, a police department. He couldn’t say he approved of course, but that was merely because of how inconvenient it would make his take over. An organized resistance was not something Alam wanted to see, much less a well-organized one that a government could provide. He had already taken care of the head of magical relations. Now he planned to hit at the magical police.

It had taken some time to determine his target. An older officer, a lynchpin would be needed. Observation showed most of those were too well protected, hidden behind wards when not working behind them or in the field. One though often spent time in unwarded environs, and had been easy enough to kidnap.

He wouldn’t have long, he was aware. There were people attached to the veil he was manipulating, and he knew he would need to move quickly. Luckily, the officer he had chosen had an easy way to manipulate. He didn’t have to do much, not really, just purge her tainted blood.

In a runic circle made of cuneiform, Molly lay spread-eagle, bound to the circle. With a laugh, he tugged at the veil, wrapped the girl in it and changed her. She’d be happier a full blood fae anyway he was sure. Halflings were never full satisfied.

In the circle, Molly’s eyes snapped open and she gasped, back arching as the veil tore through her, directed by the spell circle. She changed, human features altering as she shrunk in size, her clothes rather rapidly growing too large as she shrank to a wisp of a girl, tall for her age, built like a child who read more than anything else.

Alam laughed and left the child there, disappearing quickly before the police could come running. Before he did though, he cheerfully placed her MCU badge and gun at the edge of the circle and made certain the girl still couldn’t leave until the circle was broken. Not that the sobbing child had the energy.

Where once a human girl was, lay a distinctly fae girl, ears tipped and pointed and pupils just slightly off. And it ached too much to move.

Xiaolian sighed as she hit the end button on her phone and looked at Laura. "Just you and me. Bronson can't be arsed to answer her phone and I can't get a hold of the Warden either." She said to the other woman who looked just a tiny bit past nervous and heading towards terrified. "Relax, it's likely just some stupid kid. Besides which, you said you know this place anyway." Xiaolian added patting the woman's shoulder reassuringly. "I might.. but that doesn't mean I want to be here. They tend to look at you kind of weird if your.. well legal." Laura answered crossing her arms over her chest and hugging herself tight. Normally this was way outside the scope of what she would do, sure she'd answer a few questions about the magical community, and sometimes if the officer was particularly nice be a bit more specific about who would know more than her. But, Laura like Brandon had always felt uncomfortable at times with her connections to MCU, though she also understood that it could be a lot worse, and silently thanked whatever gods there were for her blessings.

"Look, we'll go see what all the fuss was about, easy in, easy out." Xiaolian explained before ducking down a dark, wet, and potentially rat infested tunnel. Laura just shuddered, swallowed hard, and prepared to follow the officer down into the market. She'd need her to guide her through the complex maze of booths and stalls that occupied the market... and their owners who could be politely described as cranky even on the best of days.

"Wait! Xiao!" Laura shouted as she ran after the other, careful not to slip on the slick concrete. "I'm sorry.. this is just all a bit above me. I didn't ever want to do this... I mean work for MCU and all." She confessed as she caught up with the other who was using her phone for a flash light in the dark tunnel. "Hey, it's okay. It takes all kinds." Xiaolian replied with a smile that looked ghastly in the pale light of her phone's light. "Thanks Lieutenant." Laura replied breathing a little easier now with that confession off her chest. However, she did wonder what had caused Catherine not to respond to calls; Molly she could sort of understand, the other hand always been flighty and scatterbrained, but Catherine? She had always been solidly reliable and dependable.

"Yeah sure." Xiaolian commented as they neared the exit.

Molly had woken by this point and was sulking fiercely, glaring darkly at the edge of the circle where her badge sat. Her finger tips were red and hurt, and she hadn't been able to break apart the circle from the inside. Her shirt didn't quite hit the point of dress on her, and the top of the shorts she had been wearing had been rolled multiple times in an attempt to keep them from falling down. It almost worked.

The twelve year old reached out to the edge of the circle again and yelped, finger tips smoking. She stood abruptly and stomped her foot, glaring at the edge. "I hurt all over, and I look ridiculous. Let me out, you stupid circle, so I can go to work and get fixed!" She hated the spell on her already. She was a little kid again, with the voice and physique to match and it was not her idea of a fun time. The planeswalker had tried just walking out of the circle, only to discover that the circle was warded against that. With a huff, she kicked at the edge, only for her bare foot, her shoes and socks having been too large to even bother with, to get just as blistered as he hand had been.

"Ugh. I'm going to have to be rescued again." That was her least favorite thing ever, and at least partially why she had retreated to the fae realm and the academy so long. At least there she was hardly ever in need of rescuing. "Let me out. Please? Come on!" She crossed her arms and glared at the edge, only to catch site of Xiaolian and Laura from the corner of her eyes. The preteen whirled around, and pulled the shorts up again, the collar of her shirt falling off her shoulder again.

"Ah, it's too late. Boyuan, please tell me you and Laura can break this stupid circle. I want to be turned back to normal, ASAP."

Xiaolian and Laura stopped abruptly as they both heard their names being called, but the voice wasn't a familiar one. Soon enough they were standing in front of Molly and the circle etched in the ground with her in it's middle.

"Well that's pretty obviously our problem." Xiaolian commented hands on her hips as she tilted her head trying to wrap her mind around this thing scrawled in the dirt. "It's a cuneiform circle Lieutenant... uncommon.. but some still use them." Laura said equally confused as to what it was doing there. She knew the mechanics of magic forwards and backwards, upside down and inside out, but some things were simply beyond her power to accomplish.

"Wait.. who are you and how do you know who we are?" Xiaolian asked squinting at the girl standing inside the circle. She didn't need glasses, but it might be a good idea to get her eyes checked after this because the girl looked an awful lot like Molly. "Uhm... Xiaolian.." Laura said pointing to the items at the edge of the circle. "In a minute Laura." The older officer said waving the other woman off thinking it would just be another whining excuse about one thing or the other.

"I don't even want to know about the backlash this had to have to...well do this to me." She grumbled and tried to smug the circle again. With a huff she crossed her arms, trying to look like she wasn't a little kid. It was not very successful. "Laura, I need you to find a stick, and break the circle with it." She thought it over and glared at the markings of the circle. She had had time to decipher what she could of them, but it hadn't been much. Not many used cuneiform circles, after all, and it had nothing to do with biology, so she hadn't paid too much attention to bothering to remember anything about them. "It can probably be safely broken from the outside, from what I know, but definitely not from the inside." And that was her main issue.

The girl looked to Xiaolian and sighed. "Hey Xiao, is it legal for a child who wasn't a child like, thirty minutes ago, to still hold a job. Because I am not resigning from my post." She refused. She had revenge on the mind for this, and if she started being treated like a child, she'd never get it. The preteen fae huffed and poked at the edge of the circle with her bare foot. "I definitely refuse, if that's an option." she liked being a cop.

"Oh christ... not again. How in the hell do you keep getting yourself into these messes Bronson?" Xiaolian asked making a sudden realization. "I don't what the backlash did, but it's just me and Laura here. We couldn't get a hold of the Warden or you earlier for that matter." She stated with some amount of concern as she directed Laura to go retrieve something to break the circle with. "Seriously? Are you not thinking Molly? You're asking Laura to break this? She's at at risk for the backlash too you know." Xiaolian scolded the other, reminding the now child sized Sergeant that not all ideas were good ideas.

"As for legality and possiblity... I don't know. It's a grey area." Xiaolian said as she took the large branch from Laura, one that had washed down from the creek in the last heavy rain storm. "Now stand still.. or whatever while I try to get you out of here." She added as she swung the heavy branch down and through the dirt.

"There shouldn't be that much back-" she yelped and dodged backwards from the branch as it broke through the circle. There was a pulse of magic and Molly couldn't help but sneeze as it went through her again. She scrambled out of the circle before it could reform, though she doubted it would, and grabbed her badge and gun, settling both where they should be.

"Thanks. And I have no idea how this keeps happening." She checked Laura over to make certain that Catherine's foster kid was okay. Adult or not, Molly had no doubt that if something happened to Laura while she was puling Molly's butt out of the fire, Molly would be the one in trouble with Catherine. "Are you okay Laura? What are you even doing helping out?" She frowned, not liking this. Laura should stay at the shop, safe. "Why didn't someone else come along." Even an agent not on their team would have been a better choice.

Laura, despite her abilities, was best suited to stay home, safe. Still Xiaolian was right. She was a better choice to nullify anything really. The woman was built for it.

"I'm fine!" Laura protested pushing Molly away in annoyance. "I'm here because Lieutenant Boyuan wouldn't have found you otherwise." She grumped crossing her arms over her chest, looking more like a grumpy old hippy than an angry young woman. "I know my way around the market.. for.. reasons." She mumbled looking away.

"I brought her here because like she said, she knows the market.. and also I just told you why I couldn't get anyone else to come. Did that magic circle addle your brain too Bronson?" Xiaolian asked before dragging the branch through the rest of the circle for good measure. She wasn't certain that the thing could or wouldn't replicate itself again, and she wasn't taking any chances. "Besides which, the kid does know her stuff."

"I'm glad you do. I just worry. You don't carry a gun like most of us do." This was rich, given Molly looked maybe 12 at this point. Still, the officer turned to Xiaolian. "No, but the backlash may have addled yours. There's more officers than our team." Some days, she felt like she was the only one who even realized that. The preteen sighed and crossed her arms, looking the circle over before she began to walk the edge of it, smudging it out. She wasn't sure she wanted to know why Laura knew the market.

Much like when Brandon knew things, it was best not to ask. Also, he had probably taught her, and that brat got into everything. Molly helped destroy the circle as thoroughly as possible, his lips twisted. "I think that probably involved the veil, given the amount of magic used. The Warden is pretty sensitive to major magical events and is probably reeling, so someone should go check on her." Molly voted not it. Catherine sometimes liked her, but mostly didn't, and right now, Molly should probably go to medical and find out what had been done to her exactly. Was she cursed somehow, or fundamentally changed, and if so how?

She better not be stuck at this height and, given the lack of chest and hips, age for the rest of her life.

"I'm not doing it." Xiaolian said shaking her head. Even on the best of days she avoided the Warden like the plague. She was of the opinion that she didn't need to see her boss unless they were TV, or giving her a promotion. Either way they had their own hands full with the current situation. "And for the record I know that, but you try getting someone during shift change... I don't think you're exactly in any shape to do the check either." Xiaolian added straightening up and dusting her hands off. "Besides which, I want to see medical's reaction to your newest accident." She said with a grin. This had so much potential to be entertaining for Xiaolian at least.

"Yeah, yeah.. I'm fine Sergeant Bronson." Laura said waving the other off. Gun or no gun, Catherine had made sure that she could at least take care of herself, and Brandon had as well.

"Alright let's get going, I'll drop you back off at the shop and get you into the sick bay kiddo." Xiaolian added poking fun at Molly.

"Oh God, you are never going to let me live this down, are you?" Again. At least Xiaolian hadn't caught sight fo her the last time she had a magical accident of this nature. And that one had been temporary, so maybe this one would be too. Molly sighed. "...I'll send some junior officers to check on the warden once we get in." Maybe the twins. It was good for them to be terrified, and they were always properly terrified of Catherine. They'd behave on the errand.

Ah man, she was going to be stuck in medical for the rest of the day, wasn't she?

They dropped Laura off safely at the shop, and Molly accompanied Xiaolian to medical, clearly not pleased. She pulled herself up onto an examination table and sighed. "How is it always me on this stupid table Boyuan? Why is it never you? Not that I wish you harm or anything, but it's always me." It seemed a little uneven in the trips to medical department. At least they'd figured out what had happened soon. Molly had taken a look at herself in the mirrors of the car they had taken and discovered she had changed species of all things, as well as age.

"Because I don't go looking for more trouble than I can handle, I keep my head down and my mouth shut." Xiaolian commented with a shrug as she flipped through a magazine she'd brought in with her. "You're always where you're not supposed to be, digging through things you shouldn't." She pointed out before lazily turning a page. This was nothing new, she'd spent enough time in the infirmary with Molly between fights and incidents to know that the other likely wasn't going to be pleased.

"Yeah.. good luck getting the twins to check. Last I checked they were out on patrol." Xiaolian remarked blithely, knowing full well what Molly was avoiding. Eventually in the office it would get down to rock, paper, and scissors on who was going to check on who.

"Okay, I was at a bookstore this time." She pointed out, annoyed. "My nose was in a book. I was totally behaving this time." Though Xiaolian had a point. Molly tended to get into things she couldn't handle because she was in over her head. Really, she needed to work on her ability to defend herself a bit more, and her ability to react faster. "Seriously. A bookstore. A mundane one even." She sighed and groaned. "That's going to be unholy paperwork." And if they couldn't find a junior officer, then...that made it likely to fall on Molly's shoulder's if she got cleared in time.
