a part of The Multiverse, by Remæus.

The Valley of the Dragons. The last true home of the ancient race. It spreads out before you, green hills rolling at the bases of huge mountains, each flattening as they reach the center, forming a water-filled depression. Although the lake appears tiny from your height, what appear to be small birds are swimming in it. Only then do you realize the scale of what you're seeing. The valley is massive, far larger than most modern cities, and the lake itself is almost the size of a small sea.

"Whenever you decide that it is time...their is no rush on these things" He said and sat up gently in the same posture as she was though his chest was puffed out to show his dominance...a normal response to show how strong he was to her

"I dug it out deeper and tunneled up to create a sort of bubble then I filled it in from there...it took me some time but it was truly worth it. My home is fit for a king of old...my father would be proud though his was lavish for my tastes. Mine is meant for comfort and security"

Stormstalker "I am sure I will like it." She smiled at him and blinked her eyes. She watched her children sleep and smiled more. "They really like you a lot, you are the first stranger she would go up to." She said as she pointed to the smallest female dragon. The one that curled up to him in the first place. "She was what made my mind up for me. It was the way she was with you that helped with that." She smiled some more and raised her snout up into the air taking in the dusk air. "It is about time we get to shelter at least. I don't want them getting sick." She nudged at the ground with one of her paws.

The forbidding visage of The Emperor sat silently in his throne, musing. It had been half a decade since the forceful removal of the late Dragon king, but his memory still remained fresh in the minds of his subjects. The throne on which he sat was a constant reminder of just how sinister he was capable of being. Why? It was made from the bones and hide of the former king.

Upon seeing their revered leader dispatched by a mortal man with such ease, and being so few in number, the lesser reptilians gladly pledged their allegiance to him. As was the case with most hostile takeovers, there was a select few who sought to overthrow this new headship; the insurrection was crushed immediately. It was the first and last time any of his subjects thought to overthrow him, and with good reason.

As of late, his primary focus was on the revival of the once proud race. For far too long have the dragons been subject to oppression by lesser creatures, hunted to near-extinction. Under his rule their numbers had increased to but a fraction of its original population, but an increase nonetheless. He was also responsible for the creation of a new race entirely; an amalgam of human and dragon, bearing the strengths of both species. With his guidance the dragons would reclaim the position as the dominant race, soon..

"What the hell!!!" Aaron screamed. He was running through the dense forest of the mountains as if he was being chased by something. He heard trees cracking and snapping behind him as a big earth dragon appeared from the side of the path, it looked very angry, its eye aglow, fangs bared, and loud growling. It started chasing after him. "Why did it turn out like this!!!" He continued screaming.

20 minutes prior to that event...

"Here I am, lost in an unknown valley. Maybe I should have asked for directions." Aaron sighed in depression from his predicament. He started to move on with a thinking it is already done. No point in crying overspilled milk they say. He started trekking the mountain so that he can find a high place and find where is 'out'. He comes upon a blockade of fallen logs and decided to push it off, he easily lifted them up with his strength and thrown them away to the side. He wasn't paying much attention to his surrounding and one of the log ended up hitting the sleeping dragon in its head and awaken it with an angry scowl. The dragon started chasing after him and that's the reason why.

Back to the present...

The dragon continued to close in and started snapping at him, he barely dodge by a hair's breadth each time it snaps from side to side. "Gah, Knock it off you bastard!!!" He shouted as he turned around and kicked the dragon in its face, pissed from the dragon's persistence. The dragon staggered a little, but it just shook its head and immediately gained it's composure, roared at him, and continued chasing after him, a lot angrier than it was before. "Damn it!!!" He shouted at the top of his lung, cursing his own misfortune.

There was a sudden snarl and a cry from the dragon that had been chasing after Aaron. The wyrm had temporarily stopped its assault to thrash its head. In its snout, there was now a small hole. In it, stuck a shiny bullet.

"Oh, repulsive behemoth! You dare wreak havoc on a son of Adam beneath my watchful eye!?"

The voice came from higher above. The powerful, but very incredibly feminine voice echoed and bounced around the mountains like God's word. However, standing on a rather large boulder above them certainly was not a god.

A pistol-wielding young woman stood there, and in the eyes of many men and in her own she was certainly a sight to behold. Slim and nubile, the woman had a black curtain of hair that concealed half of her face in sideswept bangs, leaving more than enough room to reveal a tiny smirk across her face that cried "I can do anything." She wore armor that bore whites and greens and purples, with complicated straps and elegant designs, all of it suggesting that the source of it was at least noble.

The woman passed the young man a glance, then shot another round at the dragon, causing it to howl once more. She dropped down from the boulder, landing steadily on her feet, and drew her rapier, the handle of which was made of gold, embroidered with gems. "Well! Not today!" she announced bravely to the enraged dragon, pointing her weapon at it.

She took no time in running the other way the nest second. She cried to the young man, "Run! Run while it's distracted!"

"Thanks for your help, but I don't run away." He said. "Well I did run, but it was just a temporary strategic retreat." He thought with a slight embarassed laugh. He drew out his sword and pointed it at the dragon. "I have no grudge against you, but you started it, well technically it's me..." He said to the dragon.

The dragon a lot more enraged than before, charged at him with its fangs bare, ready to chew him off. "I won't dodge this weak attack." He said with a smug. He held is sword in his defensive stance, as the dragon close in, he hold the sword with its flat facing the dragon, to stop it with strength alone. The dragon's open maw was blocked by the sword and continued charging with Aaron being pushed back, but it was definitely slowing down, until it came to a full stop. "Hah, You ain't nothing, don't be cocky just because you withstood my kick." He said, obviously exhausted from stopping a half ton dragon's full body charge.

He pulled away his sword and the dragon retreated away, after calming down because of the difference in strength shown by Aaron. "Well, smart choice." He said, proud of himself. He soon chased after the woman who helped him a bit while ago.

She had stopped right after hearing that the man wasn't running, turned around, and reached for her revolver again. After observing a very intriguing show of strength, a wider, more toothy smile spread across her face. The revolver found its place back into its holster on the opposite hip of the rapier. "My, my!" she greeted the man, walking towards him. "What bravado! You are...! You are..." As she came closer to him, realization dawned upon her.

"You are very short." She looked down onto him from her height of five eight. "But... very muscular, too! Big, strong man you are!"

His eye twitched slightly. "Hello lady, thanks for helping me, but... Don't you dare call me short!!!" His voice roared through the entire mountain causing many small animals to run off. "Well, ehem, I am Aaron, Aaron Retter. Nice to meet you anyway." He said with a friendly tone, but still quite angry. He sheathed his sword after realizing he is still holding it.

"Anyway, what are you doing out here in the mountains. Well, and... do you know the way out?" He asked.

The woman had held her hands up defensively in a cringe as the young man yelled. Her eyes closed and one of her legs popped up. Once he was done, she slowly unfurled. "Ah... yes... that has been noted..." she mumbled, briefly biting her lip.

"I have Yanra Nazario. I got here... recently, but... was by accident." Her dark eyes twitched over the sky. "There are no paths but those made by animals. Humans don't come here much, it looks. Too many dragons. It will take some time to get out of here."

"Uh, sorry, for yelling... Well it is just that... well, you know... I don't like being called short." He said awkwardly. "So you're lost too." He said getting disappointed that he still can't find the way out. "Anyway, we done the introduction, so... let's get out of here." He said after realizing being disappointed won't do anything.

He looked on all side and saw trees, nothing, but trees. He jumped up high and landed on one of the tree branch to see from a higher position. "Dragons flying everywhere, a large lake, more trees. Great! We're seriously lost." He said, annoyed. He jumped down to meet again with Yanra. "Well, I can't find a way out from above, so let's start looking." He encourage.

The flap of wings, the crack of tree trunks and finally the thump of something hitting the ground. Yanra was right about one thing, humans did not visit this place much, but neither humans nor others were welcome and all resembled dragon food. Kauros was no exception.

Six snaps, six teeth and sixteen scratches adorned his body and the creature moaned into the dirt.

"Well, this place is just a big bowl, right? A valley! Surrounded by mountains. We just be needing to get to the top is all." It was obvious, by the slight accent and misplacement of words, that she wasn't from any place like Aaron's. Nowhere in Aslund, either. "If we get to the top we can see we would be needing to go." She began to head up that way, but she paused mid-step. She turned away, eyes searching the bush.

"Nah, it was probably just a critter, nothing big..." Aaron shrugged the moaning sound. "Well come to think of it, I tried climbing high a bit while ago, but the result was... that." He said while pointing at the aftermath of the chase. "Well there shouldn't be anymore annoying accident like that so... Let's go!" An adventurer. Kauros could smell it, the creature pushed itself up and stumbled out of the bush. Kauros saw the two, the adventurer wasn't alone, it had some companion with it. Kauros moved a hand for his sword, fingers crackling as his arm moved over his back and his fingers closed around...

Nothing. The sword wasn't strapped to his back like always, the dragon must have eaten it. Kauros lowered his hand and stared, licking his teeth. "Smell."

Silently Koneko landed, stumbling slightly, blood running from several lacerations upon his pearl white form, now stained with blood, while his rare white feathered wings drooped as he stood heaving breaths as tremors of pain rippled through him from the deep gashes upon his long slender neck, sides and hindquarters, his paw like feet were splayed to keep him from crumpling though his head hung low with his wolf like muzzle nearly touching the ground as gasped for breaths that caused more pain.

Koneko couldn't think let alone fully comprehend exactly what had fully happened, only that he had fought a wild and deadly dragon and somehow escaped, a shudder rippled through him as he recalled the beasts thoughts that had blasted into his mind, and kenned softly as his head ached even now from that powerful shout. "I'm...not an...abomination..." he mumbled as he lifted his head just enough as the scent of water reached him and sighed when he saw the large lake ahead of him, and stumbling forward on shaky legs, his lupine form, highly rare for a dragon, Koneko made his way towards the lake.

Once he reached the edge of the lake his long graceful neck arched out over the lake and dipped his muzzle into the water and gulped mouthfuls of water down, the blood from the bite marks on his neck dripping down to drop into the lake, the sun glinting off the silver binding that wrapped low on his neck, almost like a metal collar of some type, while four shackle like bindings were about his paw like legs, his white feathered wings drooped and dragged on the ground. But those weren't the only white wings on his body. For on his hind end just at the top of his tail another grouping of white feathers sprouted out, these where spotted with blood. The odd tendril like tails that sprouted just in front of the rump feathers hung down his sides barely twitching as his sides heaved with each gulp of water he took.

After a while Koneko pulled back, his muzzle dripping water, turned and moved a ways from the lake and curled up on the ground to lick at what wounds he could reach, which with the way his body was both made and how he looked, he could reach most of them though not all. For those further along the middle of his back, between his white feathered wings, he couldn't reach. As he worked on the wounds, his tail twitched and flicked along the ground, the end split into two different tips, both feathered with purple fur with a single blue thick feather at the end. He knew he was different, but he had never been called an abomination before, and that had hurt more that the physical attack by the wild dragon. Heaving a sigh of pain, knowing that his healing would take a while to kick in since he hadn't had the chance to hunt yet, but the thought of hunting cause a kenne of pain to slip from him. He hurt, worse than any other time that he had gotten into a fight.

"Stupid bully..." he mumbled as he stretched out his neck and body, lying down like a dog or a wolf would, instead of on his side as most dragons would, Koneko closed his eyes and dozed, his large blue ears twitching while the odd purple feathers flickered beside the ears, his white feathered wings spread out over the ground, several of the feathers red from where dozens had been ripped from their place, and tiny tremors rippling through the large beautiful appendages, a sight rare for a dragon. A mumble slipped from Koneko as he dozed, a low rumble echoing from him as he slept, hoping the rest would help with his healing.

With a start Koneko woke, his eyes wide as his heart raced frantically even as his ears laid back against his head his body tensed as his eyes flicked about him even as he was ready to leap to his feet and flee or fight, but after several minutes of silence except for his rapid breathing which after a time settled down as his breathing did the same thing. Breathing softly Koneko lifted his head and looked about him as the moon light caused the water away's from him to glow in the light even as the cool night air ruffled his feathers.

His breathing hitched as the movement of lifting his head caused his wings to move and pain ripped through him as a low keen slipped from him as he struggled not to move again let alone move his wings. But it wasn't just his wings that hurt, but his whole body from the wounds on his neck, back, sides and hindquarters. The smell of blood still permitted the air though it was dry until he moved causing the claw and teeth wounds on his neck to reopen upon lifting his neck.

"Crap..." he muttered as he laid his head back down and closed his eyes, sighing softly as spasms rippled through him, hissing as both wings fluttered slightly before laying still.

Yanra proceeded to march upward a jubilant skip in her step. She glanced back over her shoulder to make sure the young short man was following, and nearly screamed.

There, she could see it clearly right over Aaron's head. Some monstrosity, some beast. She rose her hand and pointed at it, "Thing! There is a thing!" she cried, voice spiking high as it could go at the end. She drew her rapier, not the gun this time, and pointed it toward the thing.

Aaron thought that she was pointing her rapier at him. "Woah!!! where the hell are you pointing that rapier!" He shouted at her, while standing back a little, but he later realized it was slightly pointed above his head. "Haha, are you still making fun of me?" He looked at her, but her eyes were surely not looking at him, she was looking at the THING behind him. He turned his head to see what's behind to see a beast!

He quickly leaped forward in surprise to Yanra's side with his sword drew out and pointed at it as well. His heart racing at first, but calmed down soon after. "Shoo! go back to your place, you... you... whatever you are." He said.

"Shoo." Kauros growled, his orange slits staring daggers at the small adventurer and his female friend. "Go back to your place." It imitated in a hoarse voice. Kauros took a combat ready position, its arms held high on either side and its head slowly looking between them, and it might occur to them it wasn't staring daggers at them in particular.

Rather at the sword that had fallen behind them, sticking out from the ground hilt first. It was a vicious looking thing with a spiked crossguard.

"Go back to your place!" Kauros hissed, bearing it's lines upon lines of teeth.

The day started as any day by the lake as the sun slowly rose, it's light moving slowly across the ground than along the smooth water tell it touched the wounded lupine dragon form that laid out along the ground several feet from the lake as birds and insects greeted the day with their normal songs, while fish swam to the top to snatch their own treats while frogs sang from the water pads that floated along the edge of the lake.

A low groan of pain echoed as pale sapphire blue eyes blinked open as the sun light drifted over Ko's face causing him to blink rapidly even as another groan slipped from his as turned his head and lifted his left wing to buried his head under it and cried out, the sound sending the birds flying and the frogs to leap into the water as it echoed through the clearing and Ko keened with pain as his wing dropped back to the ground and the scent of blood once again drifted to his nostrils.

Taking a deep breath Ko gritted his teeth and slowly lifted his head, breathing a hiss through his teeth at the pain from the wounds on his neck and looked back at his wings and flinched when he saw blood trickling from the puncture wounds along the edge where the wings were connected to his back as well as the sections where feathers had been either ripped out or shredded with claws. Once again he laid his head down, stretching out his neck as he did his breathing slightly elevated from the pain as he tried to once again ignore the pain.

"Why was I born different? Why feathered fragile wings instead of normal ones!?" he muttered as he closed his eyes, shifting his head slightly to keep the morning sun out of his eyes, the two small tentacle like tails flicking, while the two split small tails did the same, the soft morning breeze fluttered the odd purple feathers and fur as once again the birds began to sing as the frogs returned and began to croak again.

Then all at once there came a thundering gale across the valley, and the sky took upon a fell pall. The overcast clouds grumbled as they gathered, and in them there was a part in which glinted a radiant speck of blue. Upon the wing did fly Suzerain Tyretlethen, King of the Western deserts and bidden forth by the violation of this most sanctimonious of grounds to Dragon Kind. These humans and their accompanying monstrosity were not to be tolerated within such august climes, and as such were to be driven hence.

Tyretlethen's roar echoed off of the valley's walls like a singular chorus, and as the trio may have turned to regard his approach they might collectively know despair. Grand was the golden horn upon azure scales, and grander still was the intricate carvings in which those scales lay. Eyes of crackling yellow, and teeth seven inches at the shortest. In full grandeur Tyretlethen did scale to fifty feet in length from neck to root of tail. As he landed before the intruders, the earth would quake to meet him, and as he breathed there came an audible buzz as electricity of purest nature roiled up the length of his spear-decked spine. To hear his voice was to feel it in your bones, a deep and rich booming honed by the wisdom of centuries.

"Knowest ye who tread upon these sacred grounds, that you are within the realm of dragonkind! For sooth you may find it a glad day that I extend the privilege of warning before calling upon my fell might to drive you from this valley. Begone! Scatter! Or with keen interest shall I educated you in the ways of draconic justice!"

And when he has finished in his command, The Suzerain did then breath deep; an omen and a warning. Nay, a promise of death swift and cruel should the lowly pilgrims dare linger...

The echoing roar of a dragon woke Koneko, causing his head to snap up and twist about in search of the roar, only to gasp and cry out in pain as the barely healed wounds on his neck, now red veined and pus filled reopened and bleed once again, the smell of blood accompanied by the smell of infection. Keening with the pain a shudder rippled through Ko who laid his head back down the shudder causing his whole body to tremble including his wings.

He keened again as the pain tripled from his back and wings as well as his sides and hindquarters. He was thirsty but the thought of moving only made him ache to stay put, yet his mouth and throat was parched and a part of him, deep inside, told him that the cool water would sooth his wounds though not heal them. Sighing he closed his eyes and breathed deeply before he opened them again and slowly forced himself to his feet, his legs splayed even as his paws, the claws slipping out, gripped the ground as his weakened body tried to re-aquatint it's self with the ground.

His head hung low as the blood and pus dribbled down, his jaw nearly touching the ground as he slowly and painfully made his way towards the lake, panting for each breath he took while his body was wracked with pain. Slowly he made his way to the edge of the lake and stood there gulping deep breaths of air before he plunging his entire head into the water and gulped mouthfuls of the cool water into his mouth and swallowed before he pulled his head out. With his eyes half open he moved forward and slowly slid into the lake turning to lay in the water while laying his head outside on the bank and sighed with pleasure as the cool liquid flowed over his fevered body, his white feather wings, stained with blood and pus, floated on top of the lake. Once again Ko sacomed to sleep as the cool water eased the pain.

The shivering of his body followed by ripples of pain woke Ko who's eyes barely opened as he scanned the area noting that it was late in the day and heaved a sigh as slowly and painfully heaved his body out of the water and back onto dry land, panting with each breath as the slight pain morphed into gut heaving pain as his feathered wings, having rinsed off in the lake, waterlogged, dragged the ground. He paused a dozen steps from the lake his head hung low. ''''This is so going to hurt!'''' he thought and taking a deep breath Ko shook himself to get the extra water off, spraying everything around him as he did, a choked keening cry of pain slipping from him.

Silent tears slipped down his muzzle as he stood waiting for the pain to subside wishing that he hadn't left the safety of Haven as they called his home. He knew he was in trouble but he was to far to walk and with his wings as they were...he snorted and closed his eyes. ''''I'm stuck here!'''' rang through his mind as he sighed and lifted his head enough to look about the area, seeking nourishment of some type and once again cursed that brute of a dragon that had attacked him.

"How was I suppose to know I was in his territory." he muttered as he laid himself once again flat as he had been before waking, ignoring his rumbling stomach as shivers rippled through him, waiting for his wet body to dry eyes closed and wings spread out to dry as the small tentacles tails flicked to either side of his hips the white tail feathers dripping water down his regular tail.

"It is making fun of you," said Yanra to Aaron, staring at the ugly creature. She sneered. "So ugly. Why is it so ugly? Why is it so angry? Is not a nice thing to be looking at, yeah?" She backed up a bit with her rapier still pointed at the beast.

And... as though things weren't bad enough, something that Yanra could have sword was the doll of the final bell rushed into her ears, causing her to crumple and cringe. She let go of her sword, and it fell into the dirt. "What..." she mumbled when the roar died to a bearable volume. She made to quickly snatch up her sword.

When her eyes finally raised, the ground rhumbled beneath her feet to match the awesome sight of the behemoth landing before them. She paled to such an extent that she almost looked like a marble statue.

"Oh... oh no."

There was no arguing what needed to be done. Yanra turned heel and booked it.

"Nope."
