The Multiverse

Setting

A town of cobble rises from the shadows of the forest, embed deep behind a wrought iron fence which stretched up towards the trees for fifteen feet...
Are they keeping something in, or something out?

Though seeming old, it was a semi-recently constructed town where vampires and creatures of the night of all creeds, clans, and races were welcome. There's no racism, no specism, just freedom here. This policy, this way of life, is enforced by the ever-present Forces Vankoryth. Though the guards stand silent on the street corners, they do not hesitate to aid one in need, or break turmoil.

The town fits within the area previously known as Devil's Nook and is surrounded by a fifteen foot high fence. Within the fence is a border of cherry blossom trees, the signature tree of the town. This creates quite the aromatic atmosphere, as cherry blossom trees are constantly letting loose their petals to carry on the wind.

On either side of Verinotte Hollow exists a tower. To the east is Tower Alba, to the west Tower Tramanto. The towers serve as posts for the Forces Vankoryth, who are the military presence that protect this town. Though the towers peek over the main clustering of buildings, they go for the most part unnoticed. Old maps reveal tunnels beneath the Hollow.

Brought to the Cursed Wood

Occurences

On all three gates hang a sign:
BEWARE ALL YE WHO ENTER HERE
THIS LAND IS KEPT
BY THE DAMNED AND MYTHICAL
BEWARE, MAN, FOR YOU ARE WARNED
BEWARE, HUNTERS, FOR YOU ARE OPPOSED

A fifteen foot high wrought iron
fence surrounds Verinotte Hollow

Cherry Blossom Trees block the
inner perimeter from external eyes

To the West is a tall tower with a clock
facing North, to the East a large spiraling
tower that looks more like a fortress

Silent guards stand on every street corner,
and are posted at each gate at all times.

She did not frown as her hand was smacked away, no. In fact, she seemed happy at the fact that she was alive at all. Nothing could deter her.

She turned around to pluck at the strings of the package. After fiddling with it for a few moments, she just sighed, then ran her finger along it. The strings fell away, as though cut by a knife.

"Isn't someone curious?" She tutted and shook her head, looking at him over her shoulder. "Nothing good will be coming from this little package, dear. But that's the plan, isn't it?"

Casper's sneer grew larger as the woman turned around, almost as if to try and pique his curiosity further, and in the worst way. He turned on a heel, himself, though he had offered a last comment to the woman.

"I don't care. I have a party to get back to, and you're obviously not tipping."

"I'm sure. You will find out one of these days, child. Oh, and don't think you haven't gotten anything out of this. Think of it as a...long-term benefit." she chimed, pocking out, from the box, a small vial. It was filled with red liquid, and one could only guess what it could be.

"Don't die on your way back. It'd be a waste, you know."

A young, silver-haired woman wandered into the town of eternal shade, Verinotte Hollow. She was not just an ordinary teenager though, she was a witch. This fact was made fairly obvious by her attire which consisted of a short dress with blue and yellow stripes, and detached sleeves, as well as a pair of blue boots, and the signature steepled hat.

Accompanying the witch was a tiny, semi-humanoid being with bat-like wings. The red-haired imp flapped her wings and hovered after her master. "Sayu is tired, are we here to find a place to sleep? Please tell me that's why we're here. Sayu could really go for a nice, comfy nap right now." the imp girl said to the witch, referring to herself in third person.

The Verionette Hollow was a new place for Aiya. Gathering rain clouds made it dark, wet and seem a little hostile, and it wasn't until she noticed the fourth person with fangs poking over their lips that she realized why. She was surrounded by vampires, demons, werewolves and all other sorts of spooky people and... She had wires sticking out the back of her neck. She guessed they were just two different kinds of people.

But she didn't have time to dwell on it for long as someone gave a sharp shove behind her, sending her face first into the corner of a brick building. She tensed in pain, clenching her jaw and screwing up her face as one hand pressed against the wall to hold her up. "Ow ow ow!" she muttered, wanting to shout at whatever jack-ass had just hit her.

But... No luck. Instead she found someone pointing a gun at her. Dangit, when had she stumbled into this alley? She didn't have her gear on, and even if she did it was a risk to try and wear a bullet on her shields. Before she could ask what the armed creep wanted he told her.

"Gimme your wallet," he spat, breath stinking of alcohol.

Aiya shifted her feet slightly, then sighed. "I don't have any money," she answered, reaching for her wallet and holding it out. The man snatched it from her, then turned and ran. Sheesh, this was not a nice part of town. The rain seemed to worsen, or maybe it was just her mood.

Well at least she could just get indoors at the tav- Oh no.

No no.

Her ID was in that wallet. No security would let her in. And then what? 'Oh, Zekil can vouch for me that I'm twenty-one'. Yeah, that was really going to work. She'd just cause trouble and ruin it. Stupid stupid day! She slapped the wall and headed off into the street, water starting to soak into her hoodie. Fine. Fine! She would just go home!

The still night in Verinotte Hollow was suddenly torn asunder by the sound of gigantic footsteps, marching, engines and treads. A Column of dust and noise emanated from the east, and to the eastern perimeter of the gate.

Greeting the wrought Iron gate, and inevitably trampling through it was a column of Tsunami tanks five deep and two wide. The Tanks created a makeshift path through the fence and on towards the hollow itself. Flanked on both sides of the tank column was roughly one hundred and fifty Imperial warriors, all of them in futuristic Samurai-like armor. They marched in perfect synchronous step with the tanks, their footsteps echoing through the hollow as they moved towards the town.

Behind the column of tanks and men were three King Oni mechs, in a delta formation, with the lead one carrying the Taiyou flag in it's grasp.

The Column of Vehicles and men moved until they inevitably reached the Square, the Hall, and the tavern, the cluster of buildings and it seemed that despite the resistance from Guards, the moving Soldiers largely ignored them, the sheer size and power of the King Oni enough to deter any potential resistance.

Once the vehicles and men came to a stop, a single Sudden Transport soared through the sky, and would touch down directly on the square.

"Well this is all very exciting."

The skeletally thin figure of a robed woman sauntered into the square towards the column of taiyou, long black hair tinted with green and flesh greyed and dead. Her glowing eyes surveyed the scene with some interest, glancing between the towering mechs and the tanks. With seemingly no regard for the aggressive display of power, she made her way idly up to someone who looked important - halting to speak from a distance if intercepted - and grinned.

"Hello! What's happening? I like the robots. Very good design, very evil. Giant robots were always one of my favourites, and I just love what you've done with the samurai imagery. It makes them stand out, gives them character. What's the order of business? Evil empire of dominion? Dark overlord wanting to plunge the world into strife? Give me a clue! I have a personality test in one of the issues of my magazine that can assign you an archetype if you haven't decided yet."

Namira produced from a small satchel a colourfully designed magazine, titled 'Villainous Designs'. "Are you a subscriber? I bet your evil lair must be fantastic, you should send in photos!"

Lukas made his way through the creepy woods where it looked like a war was brewing. Aschen and Taiyou by the look of things thought Lukas. Lukas snorted. It's my lot in life to be surrounded by armies working for masters of ill repute evidently thought Lukas to himself grimly. He noted that they at least seemed focused on something other than himself. He finally made it to the hollow and the nice hotel that was reported to be there. Seems like a good place to hide out and lay low for awhile thought Lukas as he checked into the hotel under a false pseudonym and paid in cash for the room.

Some of the ships over Terra began to shift, coming closer and closer to the planet. Helicopters could be heard approaching from a distance along with what sounded like at least two fleets of vehicles.

Four of the larger ships, one from the NPA, two from the Terran Navy and one from the Invictus, came close to the planet. Effectively blocking any moonlight or sunlight.

The helicopters made to the scene ahead of the land vehicles, spotlights flashing on the Taiyou on the ground. There were at least four dozen heavily armed and armored helicopters, at least four being Invictus and NPA symbols, the rest were Terran military.

"People of Verinotte Hollow, we suggest you pack your bags and take everything you can't replace with you." A voice sound from an intercom within one of the helicopters.

The fleets of vehicles finally made their appearance. It was two dozen armed NPA, Invictus and Terran military APCs, jeeps, and at least two tanks.

It was clear that the Terrans and their Invictus allies were there for one thing, the Taiyou. Anyone who hadn't been living under a rock probably knew why in an instant.

"You all declared war, this will be taken as hostile if you donnae' move on." A distinctly Scottish voice said from one of the intercom's in the larger ships.

Admiral Yamamoto popped up from a hatch on one of the Sudden Transports, and he looked up at the Invictus and Terran vessels, the Admiral simply shook his head.

Namira was not allowed to approach the column of Taiyou vehicles and personnel, rather, she would be roughly shoved away by an Imperial Warrior if she drew too close.

Yamamoto remained silent, for only a moment before he picked up a radio and then he brought it to his mouth. "Terran and Invictus fleets and Vehicles, I cannot guarantee the continued existence of your fleet and military forces if you choose to engage. Nor can I guarantee the habitability of your planet. I come seeking the representative of the Vankoryth Detente, and no one else." He said, putting the communicator down.

"Kantai wa yaku kuru tame ni junjo o rirē." He said calmly, and a Taiyou officer nodded. "Wakarimashita."

Five minutes went by and the order was disseminated by coded bit-stream to other Taiyou ships in the Sol System. It didn't take long for Taiyou ships to come from the dark recesses of the star system, and bear their sheer overwhelming number on the Invictus and Terran vessels, Yamamoto picking up the Communicator. "You're Outnumbered 100,000 to one, the move is yours, make a wise decision, Our Prince has suspended the declaration of War against your planet until we have settled our score with the Aschen. We will address your government in due time." He said, and as Yamamoto delivered his warning, the 1st Imperial Armada shuffled slowly and ponderously into position, a mere 1,500 Vessels bore on the Terran fleet, but that number was of course rapidly climbing, as more vessels entered scanner range.

A Female voice rang in behind the Admiral, as a young girl looked up to the Ship.

"Can I play yet?" She said, and Yamamoto shook his head. "Not Yet, Yuriko."

"Are they serious?" Tommy asked, "Let the others know we might be fighting a war soon." The Scotsman ordered, "You got it, putting in the word now."

As the others on the ship's bridge began to make contact with their various allies, Tommy kept his attention on the Taiyou. "That's fine. Talk to who you want to talk to, but talk to us collective. Vankoryth Dentente is an ally in the formation of this new government, an act of good faith would be to contact us all and not bring an army to do so."

As Tommy spoke more and more ships came from orbit, the diversity of the ships, their pilots and their weaponry was making up for their current lack of numbers. But, that was planned to be remedied soon if things escalated any further.

"Now, I suggest you quit with the threats."

Yamamoto looked up to the ships, and then back to his escort. "I am not the one bringing a star fleet to threaten an Admiral and his escort. The Taiyou Empire does not recognize your government, and will continue to not recognize it, while you throw what little weight you have, and making baseless threats. A Trait you no doubt learned from your Aschen Oppressors. Make the wise decision, swallow your pride and cease your act, or we will be forced to defend ourselves." Yamamoto warned.

He turned to Yuriko, and then he nodded.

Yuriko grinned and she stared up at the large ship blocking out the sky, her eyes began to brim with potent Psionic energies

The Taiyou fleet maintained it's position, like last time. They were going to wait for the Terrans to fire the first shot.

"I'm gonna correct you, mate. Firstly, we ain't a government. Terra technically has no unified government." Tommy said matter-of-factly, "Secondly, you guys... brought a star fleet to talk to one, maybe two people. Either you're fuckin' stupid, don't grasp irony, can't count, or all of the above." Tomy told Yamamoto.

"This ain't about pride, it's about doing what's right. Protecting these people from people like you. We'd gladly die here to deny you anything and everything." The Scotsman said, "We fight with conviction, humility, mercy, pain. You would learn a thing or two from decent people."

"The others are on their way, Black Badge, TETRS, and Anodyne as far as I can tell." Th ship's captain told Tommy, "Aye, understood."

Yamamoto frowned. "We brought a fleet to protect our Prince while we mopped up operations concerning the Aschen here, after all, how can we trust you to protect foreign operatives, when you can't even moderate your own planet." Yamamoto said flatly.

"You can't construct a successful government, let alone keep the peace. We mean no harm to these people, but we will protect ourselves. Expect no further communications; we do not negotiate with Militiant NGOs." Yamamoto said flatly, turning the radio off and turning to his Adjutant.

"Karera wa kōgeki shita baai, wareware wa taiō sa sete itadakimasu." He said, then he nodded to Yuriko, stepping down from the Sudden Transport, and proceeding towards the Castle.

She had come from the castle after hearing the ruckus, and so had the beast. Descending from above was a massive beast, far larger than any of the helicopters that flew through the sky, far taller than any of the old-growth within the forest that surrounded Verinotte Hollow. Despite that, she slithered through the Hollow with ease, wings pinned tightly to her back. Her talons parted to reveal a small girl, dressed similarly to the women of old Victorian times.

While the Taiyou vehicles made their way toward the castle, the beast took off from the ground with a great beat of her wings, landing in their path. The gargantuan's wings extended to further block the way. An eerie. green glow emanated from just behind her eyes as the dragon stared down the soldiers trying to infiltrate the castle.

A voice boomed from all around, speaking to each and every one, reaching even those from within the ships.

"What is your business with us?"

The NPA, Terran and Invictus foot soldiers disembarked from their APCs and other vehicles, moving quickly to intercept the Taiyou and form a wall of armed men and women.

Yamamoto paused, Yuriko behind him as the Imperial Warriors and Conscripts lined up in formation, others took cover behind the column of tanks and other Vehicles bearing the symbol of the Taiyou Empire.

"Is there a particular reason you're barring me from passing? Or are you doing it to make yourselves feel better." He said, standing just a few feet from the group.

"Let's stop the big bad Taiyou from bullying this poor Vankoryth Faction. Go ahead and explain to my why an Aschen Reverence was allowed to position itself here, and yet you threaten us. We're not the ones who oppressed your world all these years." Yamamoto said, clasping his hands behind his back, stopping a foot away from Tommy, albeit a bit shorter than the man.

"I politely ask you to stand aside. Do not escalate this any further. Unless that's exactly what you want."

Yuriko stepped forward. "I can end them all with one thought! Let me play Admiral! Let me Play!"

Yamamoto held up his hand.

"Yuriko-San. Karera wa kimagure ni watashitachi no hitobito o kōgeki shita baai, UCON wa mohaya sore o hogo shimasen." Yuriko simply frowned.

Having heard the Voice, Yamamoto looked around, and Yuriko spoke up.

"We have business with the Detente concerning the Aschen."

Yamamoto didn't budge, he simply stared at Tommy. "And what point are we trying to prove here?"

One of the Invictus on the ground raised her hand like she was in grade school, "Uh... yes, you did. Like... not long ago either, dude." The Invictus soldier said to Yamamoto, "Yeah... are we ignoring the past or something? Did that get retconned?" Another asked, "Nice, you used retcon in a sentence that isn't about comic books." Another Invictus soldier said, giving the other a thumbs up.

"Actually, UCON is handling the Aschen. We aren't at war with them either, mate." Tommy said from his ship's intercom. "The Aschen are all but gone as well, they're actually kind of taking steps to smooth things out with us and their other enemies."

Yamamoto shook his head. "The Aschen are kowtowing to you and the Coalition because they're weak and have all but exhausted themselves militarily." Yamamoto said, chuckling. "They are 'smoothing things over' because they aren't in a position to do much else." He said, staring at the Scotsman.

"You're staring down a five hundred trillion man standing army, spanning billions of worlds, and every one you kill, a thousand is eager to take his place for the Emperor, We breed soldiers." He said, still clasping his hands behind his back. "And I will dictate peace terms from Caprica City, and I will dictate Peace terms from Wing City." He said.

"For someone who doesn't want trouble, you sure like to bring up your army a lot." Tommy said, "I'm coming down there to join my men and anyone else in peacefully protesting your presence, because, as you just said, we have no discipline." Tommy told Yamamoto.

His ship angling itself so that it was almost right above the group down below.

Light, or energy, swirled up on the ground in front of Yamamoto like an upside tornado. It grew higher and higher, glowing brighter and brighter until finally the light dissipated to reveal Tommy.

The Scottish soldier was donning his usual black uniform and armor, "Shall we begin?" He asked, he and the other Invictus standing calmly and quietly. The Terran military and NPA didn't seem as keen on the idea, but they followed along to keep things from escalating further.

“No no man I got it haha, listen to this -- ‘Oh hello sir, hey does this cookie dough smell spoiled to you?’.” A few giggles broke the otherwise silent foliage of the hollow, underneath the fake log and dense netting the element of two marine snipers quickly returned to some modicum of professionalism as the Master Sergeant cradled the stock of the MR-35 anti-material rifle in his firing shoulder. Not five meters away from him in the camouflaged dugout a Lieutenant stifled one last laugh into his arm before reaching back down to the tiny handheld radio between them.

“Alright, alright. I’m calling it in, no laughing on the Command comms.” The Lieutenant looked back out through the firing slit of the sniper’s hide and onto the scene below, the skies above eclipsed with shadows of starships and active with insect hordes of vehicles. Across the small ridgeline skirting the area some kilometers away a platoon of Coalition snipers settled into hidden positions amongst the foliage in observation of the movements in the area around them.

“Jesus Christ I’m too funny for the military … Hey so the Terrans finally get a military and they use it to stage a civil protest against foreign policy. Unfortunately you need a government to have a foreign policy first.” The Master Sergeant stretched his legs out under the cumbersome rifle, which more correctly to any layman appeared to be a man-portable cannon, and used a hand to toggle the all-aspect scope mounted on the back rails of the weapon. “Plenty of contacts though, it’s very active down there … light to heavy vehicles you can probably tell who has them anyway, truth be told looks like a bunch of schoolyard fucks who found some military hardware. We don’t need Regievko for this party.”

“Shut the fuck up. Steel Command Actual this is Iron Four Six, in position Charlie’s Two-Foxtrot-Two-Alpha-One, standing ready for observation mission over.” The Lieutenant crouched at the exit of the small fighting position, a carbine between his legs and the radio set on his lap.

“This is Steel Actual confirming your transmission Four Six standby for debriefing; you’ve got an observation flight inbound and small drones for overhead sweeps keep your heads down and let the neighbors work it out.”

“Domestic violence. The bestest violence.” Lieutenant Marsh put the receiver and radioset down before he pointed back out the firing hole to the Master Sergeant. “Let’s watch some television then. The Master Sergeant kicked his feet around in the dirt gleefully before pulling the bolt of the rifle back and chambering a 35mm projectile.

“I love this channel.”
