Paul did his best to take it in stride, though his cheeks were beginning to turn a bit red from it. Twenty-one years old, immensely strong and still just a boy.
"I've been kissed by a few and hugged by a few, that's about it." he said with a straight face, having no problem admitting that to her.
"There was one for a while it started to look serious. I broke it off, told her she deserved some one more stable, some one without as much weight on his shoulders." he replied.
"I don't know if I ever told you, but before my old teacher left he made two prophecies about me, one that I could become the most powerful Brawler-Mage to ever live. The other, was that a choice I will make will decide the fate of an entire race." he said, lowering his head, sounding a bit depressed at the thought.
"It's mine to bear, it all comes down to a choice I will make." he said. There was more to it than that, one line in the Prophecy alluded to him possibly dying as well as a result of his choice.
"I'd rather you not throw your life away on some one like me." Paul said, turning his head away for a moment. "I'm not worth you dying for." he finished, unable to lookat her face to say that.
Paul's face turned only because he hadn't been expecting the strike, he just stood there in silence for a time. "What, don't ever say something truthful like I'm not good enough, that I don't have what it takes, that I don't feel worthy of being with some one like you?" he said, not turning his head after she hit him, his voice level.
"They aren't after me, they are after this." he gestured to himself. "Most of the women who look at me and try to do something about it wouldn't take the time to talk to me if I wasn't like this." he said, turning away and hurling this ice cream cone far out into the lake in frustration. "I know you are different from that, that's what I don't deserve, I'm different then I was a year ago, not as much of a kid, but I'm still not what you seem to think I am." he said.
"Bad boy image? I have a bad boy image?" he asked, taking a small bite of the offered ice cream. "When did I get that?" he asked. That he didn't understand, he knew he pulled off musclebound well and some people thought him a bit dim for it but he didn't think he put off a 'bad boy image' as she said.
"Only if that trouble's name is Allantra." he replied, managing his pathetic joke and weak laugh. "Actually most people give me my space these days, at least the ones who like to give out trouble." he said.
"Trouble finds you, people seem smart enough not to get on my nerves these days." he said with a shrug. Not that Paul was an easy man to anger but he was making a point, when she wasn't around he got in less fights.
"Well yeah, if you keep hitting people or poking them when they make jokes some one is bound to get upset and then I have to knock some one unconscious for you." he said with a shrug.
At that poke Allantra would find herself dangling away from Paul at arms length as he held her up by her wrist. "Please don't do that, I'm ticklish remember." he said.
Paul chuckled set her down. "Thank you." he said, putting his hands at his sides in an attempt to ward off further pokes to his ribs.
"When I'm not working generally." he answered. "I spend a lot of time at the gym, don't do a lot of sparring since most people who come in are just there to run or lift weights." he said with a shrug.
"And what might that be?" he asked, raising a brow at her as he walked, attempting to force his large hands into his pockets but only managing to get four fingers in each one.
Paul wasn't entirely sure where that was going and it made his face a little red with her words. "You do my apartment is a bit small to be training in." he said, unless she knew some sort of meditation technique, which he knew a few, but other than that he wasn't sure it had anything to do with training.
"Hurt me? You know you can't do that. Just think about what Ichiro would do." he teased, hoping that light joke wouldn't be crossing the line and hurting her. But he did have a point.
"Riiight." Paul answered, poking her in the ribs this time, careful of his aim. "I don't know, I've seen him better pretty mad some times." he added. He wasn't about to tell her about the time he smoked Ichiro in the face once.
"Good, it isn't pretty." he said, "People threatening his friends brings out something more like a beast in him." Paul said, kind of like the berzerk rage she had seen him go into once or twice when she was being attacked.
Devin smiled as he led Anares to the lake side. The almost full moon reflecting off the surface, a soft wind. It wasn't too cold tonight. It was peaceful though. Serene, quiet. He closed his purple hues and inhaled deeply, the scent of the lake air in the night. As he exhaled his breath would make a cloud in the air in front of him. His hand still holding hers, "Beautiful.. isn't it?" He smiled, looking towards her.
