The Multiverse

Setting

A large and imposing structure, the Wing City Police Department is a building designed to resist what the city has to offer. Fitted with security systems designed to combat mages, psionics, teleporters and phasers alike, nobody could ever accuse the WCPD of being unprepared. Alongside the regular offices, training areas and public areas you would expect in a police station, Wing City's department is fitted with a large bunker and armoury.

Armed guards have a notable presence around the building, many of whom are more than human themselves, and all of whom are equipped with specialist weaponry and protection designed for the environment they work in.

The building itself is heavily reinforced. The brand new reinforced metal doors leading into the building can be locked down with heavy shielding and blast resistance. Turrets, deployable cover and multiple checkpoints with similar defenses internally are spread throughout the building.

Whisper shook her head. “Musn't seek what must not be found. You don't know, you can't know. No one can know. The eye, is watching, looming ever closer. If you look it'll find you. Can't you hear it? Tapping against the window pane, but you musn't let it in.”

As Duram passed by Whisper's side, her head jerked up and share stared him in the eye. Gone was her earlier assertiveness, and in its place was simply the countenance of a frightened woman. Though it didn't seem to be Duram whom she was frightened of. No, Whisper's demons lay elsewhere.

Turning her head away, she let her silver white locks of hair fall down to shield her eyes again. “Musn't speak to it, musn't humor it.”

Jordan Duram pursed his lips and then turned to the Agent. "She's mumbling nonsense, record it and send it to the AI banks for parsing." He said, glaring at her.

"Answer my gods-damned question!" Duram barked, before he swung his arm around to backhand the girl across the face. "Answer me or you'll get the pattern!" He barked, before he swung his arm around to jab the needle into the woman's neck.

"Maybe when the cravings overpower you, you'll answer my question for a pitiful vial of Pattern." Duram said, though the needle was in, he hadn't injected the serum.

"What is the Orsa, what are those men and what is the Corruption!?"

Whisper's head snapped to the side under the blow and she fell silent. Being struck was such a foreign experience for the girl that it seemed to have stunned her into silence. The man's words rang through her head as she whispered softly. “The beginning of the end.”

She began to twist her hands against her bindings again, but this time her movements had purpose. Her eyes shifted to the side, as best they could, given the situation. Her gaze was upon her own arm, and the blackened mark that she bore. A year had come and gone since the days of the Orsa of Terminus, and the inquiry brought up memories of a time gone but not forgotten. "They are not one and the same."

Jordan Duram sneered, then quickly withdrew the needle. Then he held it up. "I wouldn't struggle against those restraints." He said calmly, before he reached into his briefcase, withdrawing what looked like a cattle prod.

Calmly and almost nonchalantly, he touched it against the back of the metal chair Whisper was sitting in, likely resulting in quite a start.

"What are they? You say they are the beginning of the end, what do you know about them? How can we stop them?"

Whisper jerked against the restraints, her eyes flashing with something bordering on vehemence as she cast a murderous glance at Jordan. But just as quickly as the look appeared, it was gone again and a low chuckle reached Whisper's lips. Tilting her head back her eyes rolled to the side to get a look at Jordan. “The beginning of their own end. You seek ghosts of the past, they are no more.”

Jordan Duram continued to slowly pace around. "No more you say? What of the individuals that were seeking to attack you, if they were no more why did they attack you?" Duram said, as he brought the cattle prod up into his grasp.

"Ghosts of the past you say? There's a lot of information contained in the Aiyanna files, much of it is dated, they were a powerful group, how could they be destroyed?" He asked, then he tapped the photo of the cultists.

"And what about them?"

Whisper glanced to the photos, the low chuckle dying away into somber seriousness. “A new name, a new face. They aren't the same and yet nothing changes. Where one falls another takes its place, it is the way of the world.”

“If you persist in pursuing this, it will be your undoing. You'll know only darkness. A darkness of the likes that only your own mind can conjure up. I have seen it.” Whisper closed her eyes, her expression pained.

Jordan Duram was now at this point, batting the cattle prod in his hands. "Nothing changes..." He ran the electrical prod across the metal table, but it didn't emit a shock. "I doubt a cult of magic users could threaten the safety and integrity of the Aschen Confederation, however they are a threat, I will admit that. But this darkness, we are going to be the light which causes the darkness to flee like roaches." Duram explained, his gaze leveling on Whisper.

"Where are their hideouts?"

Whisper could hear the sound of the prod near at hand, but she didn't look up, or open her eyes. “I shouldn't be here,” she murmured more to herself than to Duram and she even went so far as to try and stand from her chair. Though with her hands securely bound, and three man close at hand, she hadn't anywhere to go. “I don't know. I shouldn't be here, you need to let me go,” Whisper said anxiously.

Jordan Duram turned to face Whisper, as one of the Agents made sure she couldn't stand, by planting a firm hand on her shoulder and forcing her to sit back down.

"As soon as you tell us what we want to know, we will release you. But matters of national security matter more than some petty fears of the occult." He said, glaring at Whisper. "What do you have to fear? You're on a ship orbiting the planet, thousands of miles from the surface."

He narrowed his eyes.

"The only thing you have to fear, is what will happen when you don't tell me anything."

“Fear you? And your little toys?” Whisper asked as she was shoved back down into the chair. She lacked the physical fortitude to overpower the man in question, and his grip on her shoulder kept her securely in place. With a jerk of her shoulder, she tried to shrug the arm away while her eyes cast daggers at Jordan. The woman's emotions continued to flit about unpredictably and with little warning or explanation. “When you've watched the sanity of those you hold dear burned out of their minds until only a hollow husk remains of their former self, all the while knowing you're next. Then we can talk fear.”

Jordan Duram paced back and fourth. "So it's something that eats away at a person's sanity, can our Anti-magic technology stop it? Halt it's progression or counter it?" He Asked, before he tossed a Mana inhibitor onto the table, the metallic finish clunking on the metal table.

"Can we combat it with our technology?"

Jordan Duram leaned forward. "We have the technology to defy gods and demons, we can defy death itself, if it's possible, than our scientists can crack it." Duram said calmly, gesturing to the device.

"What god would be behind this? Hades?"

Jordan Duram growled, then he leaned back. "We're done speaking when I am satisfied with the information, I have obtained, now what god is behind this! Speak!" He barked, before he tapped the cattle prod against the chair to force a response, holding it to maintain a steady stream of electrical pain.

"Who is behind this cult? This 'Corruption' you speak of?"

Whisper jerked against her bindings again, back arched against the chair as her muscles convulsed painfully. Her face was contorted with a combination of pain and anger, her jaw clenched in a vice grip as the shock left her body incapacitated beneath the steady current of electricity.

She wasn't entirely aware for how long the ordeal had spanned, but as the prod was removed, her head fell forward, and she sagged in the chair. Only the agent's firm grip on her shoulder kept her in place at all. Her breath was thready and labored as she tried to regain her senses.

“I said, we're done speaking to you.” Her words were shaky though, and a bead of sweat ran down her brow. Anxiety perhaps?

Jordan Duram casually tapped the prod once more to the chair, for a few more seconds, then he waved his hand. "We're going to break you, Whisper. We're going to break you and make you spill everything." He said, as the agent threw the back of the Chair down, forcing Whisper to lay down, and then an Agent walked in with an ice cold bucket of water.

"You will tell me everything I wish to know, or you will suffer!" He barked, then two Agents held the girl down before a third covered her face with a cloth, leaving only her mouth exposed, then water was poured on her face, in the nose and the mouth, slowly and steadily for several seconds.

"You can make this all stop, right here, right now."

Whisper's eyes rolled wildly in instinctive panic as her chest heaved and struggled for oxygen before she was at last freed to sputter and cough up the icy water. For many long moments the girl did little more than heave and gasp for air around the gargled fluid that had filled her lungs. Bedraggled and chilled to the bone, she tried to sit up but was again forced back down by firm hands. “You're a fool,” she managed to wheeze out. Unfortunately, physical fortitude was not the frail girls forte.

Jordan Duram shook his head, then nodded and the Agents forced her back down. With another filled pitcher of ice water, the waterboarding continued and the col water was slowly poured onto Whisper's face.

"You're going to talk!" He barked, the Agents would force her to sit back up, allowing her to gasp for air before waterboarding her again for several seconds, though there was likely no physical pain, but the psychological torture, the drowning feeling, would replace that physical pain.

By this point, Whisper was in a daze, her head swimming from the repeated deprivation of oxygen and the accelerate state of panic and adrenaline flooding her system. “Lzothozsh,” she managed to wheeze out between gasps, almost as if she were wielding the word as a shield. “She would protect you, but I would see you suffer your folly when He comes. Lzothozsh, Devourer of Minds,” she choked out. “What good the name will do you,” she added with a choked laugh that sent her into another fit of coughing and wheezing.

As soon as the name was wheezed out, Whisper was almost immediately brought back into an upright position, the cloth removed from her face. "Was it that hard? All we need is a name, from there we can pursue what leads we need to." He said as he backed up, tossing the pitcher of water back into the large tub.

"We do not fear this deity, we can fight it, we have the resources." He gestured for the agents to slide the tub away, the floor slick with water, which was circling the drain in the center of the room to be recycled back into drinkable water.

"I think that is all we need." Duram said, before he stroked his chin.

"You could have made this easy... is there anything else you would like to Add before I throw you back into your cell?"

Whisper pulled her knees up to her chest and shivered as chills wracking her form from the icy water. She said nothing more, though the vehemence in her eyes spoke volumes. It was a look that made the mind wonder just how far the girl would take it, if left alone with the object of her ire and a sharp weapon.

Jordan Duram frowned, then scowled and the Agents forced her back into position, covering her face with the wet cloth and pouring water on her face once more.

"There is something to add? Where are the cultists!" He barked, and while they were water-boarding her, he prodded her with the prod, to result in a jolt perhaps.

The water continued to pour from the pitcher before Duram stopped, screaming. "Where are they!?" He barked, before he laid into her again, pouring some more water, then stopping.

"Get me the Pattern syringe." Duram said quietly.

It was several long minutes this time before the girl could even speak, and when she did, she only managed to utter three simple words. “I don't know.” At mention of the Pattern, she visibility paled. Whereas earlier she had seemed indifferent to the threats of the drug, genuine fear lay beneath her eyes this time. Her constantly shifting mannerisms, and alterations to stimuli made her difficult to read at times, but there was no denying the panic in her in that moment.

She even went so far as to try and move away from him, but as before, firm hands kept her well in place. “I don't know,” she reiterated, her face matted with wet strands of hair. Her eyes reflected the words she didn't speak. Don't.
