Setting

Wraeyoln is a large and bustling city situated within the expansive plains of Vlyhihr Fields. Located about fifteen miles east of Gridera Durga, Wraeyoln is the proverbial "fruit salad" of cities. Due to a steady influx of humans with various cultures, and those non-human species that have grown fond of mingling with humankind, Wraeyoln is a beautiful blend of distinct cultures that combine to make something far superior to the individual parts that compose it.

Regular occurences of Razorwind Storms and attacks by various monsters that live in the area have prompted Wraeyoln's administration to invest in a state-of-the-art defensive system. This not only includes the best magitech that money can buy, but also the regular hiring of skilled warriors and mages across the continent. This prioritization of defense spending produced a trickle down effect in the city that has led to it being far more technologically advanced than other villages and towns on the continent. This is evident in Wraeyoln's aesthetic.

"Ehh..." Rei said shrugging, she hadn't found it boring but she didn't exactly know what she was missing. "I don't think so, not always.. friendly but not boring." She added as she followed the pair off to the kitchen. "I don't plan to stay here long if I can help it, this was just long enough to maybe make some money and get authorities off my ass." Rei went on to explain to Thierri. "I don't expect easier, I expected to be able to get to my shuttle and leave.. not impose like this."

At least that's how it felt to her, she wasn't sure yet exactly what to think about Origin in all it's strangeness either. She was essentially a stranger in a strange place. That normally didn't bother her, she was there and then gone as suddenly as she had arrived most times. Such was the life of a transient, or the life of a trader if you asked Rei. It was normal to be weeks between ports, with just her and whatever filled her ship's cargo hold this time.

"Hah! Immoral is the gold standard for most of those guys." She commented snorting at Iviri's question. "It's the only way they ever get anything do. Human experiments aren't new."

But now there was the matter of the kitchen, with it's plates of rotting food and rusty utensils.
"Ugh.. that smell.." Rei muttered cautiously poking and inspecting one the plates with a spare rusty knife she'd picked up. "Better not be alive..." Rei grumbled eyeing the decaying food with much suspicion and thinking back to the mad scientist remark. One could never be entirely sure with things that appeared to have been left for so long. "Don't you think it's strange that all this.. is food familiar? I mean I doubt you guys have even seen some of this stuff.." Rei thought aloud while poking the knife at a slice of what appeared to be petrified cake.

"To think there was really weather that could ground space ships..."

Iviri ended up muttering that, but then suddenly before he could say anything more the mentioning of the kitchen and food was brought up so he decided to follow. Thankfully, he was not scared when he stepped on a creeky part of the floor, but that should probably be expected given Iviri spent a good portion of his life essentially being tortured.

When he heard Rei's comment, he couldn't even hide his disgust, and ended up saying something without thinking about it too much due to the fact he found that news emotionally upsetting. "All those people should just go along and die with them..."

He had no intention of ever allowing himself to be caught, captured, or used like that again.

And on that note...

"Have you detected anything yet, Replica?"

"Unfortunately, as we currently do not know what types of ghosts may infest this mansion, I do not know if I should scan for ectoplasmic, thermal, mana, aura, spectral, or other forms of energy that manifest spirits and ghosts".

"Speaking of which, what energy do you run off of?"

"Unknown. As your Spirit Guardian, I do not actually know what kind of manner was used in my creation. I shall continue to remain inside your body, though inside or outside, the fact you have a Spirit Guardian means you cannot be possessed".

While Iviri had a conversation like that inside his own head, the moment he entered the kitchen...he saw very familiar foods. In fact, he had some of them recently. But, mainly it was food that he first consumed after gaining his freedom. Hamburgers, Cheeseburgers, pizza, milkshakes. It was all fast food because Iviri did not have a place to live at the time. Most of the time he slept outside, under a bridge or something. But, it was definently better then remaining a test subject in a lab.

"...I suppose this is better then green food paste still..."

But as he muttered that, he quickly heard something from the other room. He then looked at the butler.

"I don't suppose you can make some edible food right?"

After saying that, he quickly ran to see what Theierri had discovered.

Thunder continued to pound overhead as the group conversed. Upon inspecting it, Rei would find no sign of the food being alive, but it was thoroughly spoiled, as previously mentioned. The expression that appeared on the servant's face was evidence enough that something was wrong - that this wasn't what he expected to see when he prepared to serve them. Upon hearing the exclamation of his new master, Thierri, the small humanoid returned to the main hall to uncover the source of his sudden excitement. If Rei chose to follow as Iviri had, the three of them would see Thierri standing before the lever that was now in the "on" position, hand pointed toward the glowing runes encircling it.

"I didn't pay much attention to it before, but I've seen these runes before." Thierri explained, "They're meant to create a spell that keeps this place in temporal stasis but they've been damaged .. which explains why this place is in far from pristine condition."

At this moment, it was likely that the piles of accumulated dust and the occasional cobweb scattered throughout the room became more noticeable to the group - once impertinent details now revealed to be important pieces of evidence that had been lying before them all along.

Thierri continued to ponder on the discovery for a few minutes. Then, his eyes widened as a look of grave concern flashed upon his face. He even mouthed the words "oh no" beneath his breath before snapping his head back to the runes to his left. He tried to look examine them further in the hopes of gaining more information about them to no avail. "Well this isn't good." he said with a nervous laugh and reached up to scratch his arm. There was a small white tattoo on his shoulder, seemingly of a name in Elven script, that had begun to twist and wind in figure eight patterns as he spoke.

Rei sighed and dropped her knife back onto the counter, "Edible food I don't think it going to happen soon." She said to herself as she went to see what all the ruckus was about. "Oh goodie, you know how to work a switch.." Rei commented sarcastically, wondering if this was going to reveal yet another portion of the mansion with yet more rotted and spoiled things. "Stasis? Temporal? That's way above my paygrade..." She added shaking her head. All Rei knew was this place was strange and she didn't like it.

"What's not good? You mind filling your guests in buddy?" Rei asked suspiciously.

Once Iviri saw the symbols on the structure, a bad chill went down his spine. Of course, that was because he could read it. Even though he had been raised in a science facility treated as a lab rat, they still planned to sell him off as a "Living Weapon". Because of that, they did teach him things like how to read, otherwise he would be very impractical. And so when Iviri said that, the switch in his brain for lack of better words that had begun to flicker went right back into on at full speed. In addition, he stepped back with enough force that he slid on the floor a bit as he took distance from the lever.

And then he also saw the arm with Elven script.

"Temporal?! Seriously?! Please tell me we both misread that...no, cant take any chances. Transfer, on!"

Suddenly, Iviri's body was wrapt in a glow of light before settling down...and the only notable difference was that his clothes changed and he no longer looked wet or damp. He was now wearing what was more like a black and red alien/sci-fish jumpsuit. There were glowing circles on the palms and outsides of the hands, and only his head was uncovered. There was also another glowing circle on the back.

"Excuse me. I apologize for his seemingly strange reaction".

Suddenly, a voice called out and from one of the glowing circles on his right hand, a black and purple...thing...appeared. (See profile for image of Replica). Its name was...

"My name is Replica, Iviri's Spirit Guardian. I normally would not appear out of nowhere like this just in case and to prevent from shocking people, but Iviri's reaction involves his past. He had several bad occurances in the past involving time loops, and time distortions that he was subjected to..."

Replica began to explain, although if anyone caught the wording, the fact Iviri was subjected to it meant someone intentionally made him suffer through it.

"...and also, he was concerned because of what happened so far. If the temporal magic can interfere with people like that, he got concerned that if he stayed in his normal body it might be affected, so using his powers based on Alien technology he switched to an artificial one. Because he was also worried that his mind might get reverted to a point where he went insane and started attacking anyone he saw in a berserk rage...well, to avoid that happening completely, we should probably fix this soon. It might also be dangerous to leave the mansion if the flow of times is different between the inside and outside of the mansion, so leaving prematurely is illadvised".

As Replica explained everything, Iviri had calmed down a bit more.

"I have never experienced a time disruption caused by magic though...I hope it isn't unpleasant. Or better yet, if I am being overly paranoid and cautious and nothing bad happens at all".

Rei's switch comment caught Thierri's attention and he responded, as if by instinct, with a flippant remark of his own. "Not the only thing I know to work. Stick around and I might give you a demo." he said with a brief, somewhat lickerish grin.

He returned to a more serious disposition as he explained his explanation, "As I'm sure you all have figured out by now, this house is magical in nature. My guess is that it was created to accommodate any guests of the person who created it, but something has this place on the fritz. If the temporal magic that binds this place is damaged, who's to say that the passage of time in this mansion isn't totally different from the outside world? Minutes could equate to days. Hours to weeks. You get the idea."

Thierri ran a hand through his hand worriedly as he let the words sink in. Even though they were his own, the gravity of the situation hadn't really weighed on him until now, as if speaking them aloud made them more real than they otherwise were. To make matters worse, Iviri suddenly began to freak out when he mentioned the temporal magic. This kid was more messed up than he thought. He had planned to use the child to his own ends, but he was beginning to wonder if it was worth the hassle. He needed his help to refurbish the place, not to destroy it because of his damaged past.

The strange entity that appeared near Iviri was met with a puzzled gaze as it explained the boy's predicament. Most of what it said fell on deaf ears because Thierri wasn't particularly interested in hearing the boy's life story. "Okay, yeah. Just try to keep him from doing that and killing us all, please."

"We might as well start searching the place to see if we can find out what's corrupting it." The first place that caught his eye was the barricaded door across the room. He headed straight for it and proceeded to clear out some of the chairs that had been stacked against it. Thierri gestured toward the butler and Rei, saying, "You two. Mind helping me out with this?"

"O-Of course. Right away!" The servant nodded and hurried over to assist him.

Rei just scowled at Thierri's response, "Oh I don't think you could," She said gesturing with two slim fingers towards her own forehead. "I don't go for whole goat look ya've got going there..." Rei added flippantly.

But suddenly there was Iviri shouting some utter nonsense before even more strange things began, "What the...holy hell is wrong with you?" She exclaimed stepping as far back as she could. Rei didn't know if there was something wrong with him, or yet another thing wrong with the building they were in. After all was said and done however, she regarded Iviri with serious misgivings. "What he said... no killing us." She finally managed, this time. She was so far out of her comfort zone it showed. Magic was something that belonged in fairytales, tall tales from the dawn of time, not a civilized space faring society.

Trying to turn her attention back to what was going on, all she managed to catch was temporal and building out of it all. Something clicked in Rei's mind and she slowly began to realize that this might be why she had had such trouble with communications. "Well.. if we're somewhere or sometime else.. it may explain why I can't raise my AI." There was just simply nothing to pick up the signal. Alpha level or not, ships communications weren't exactly designed to go across time, just space really. "But.. I'm not sure how I like where this goes." She muttered thinking to herself for a moment. This reminded her entirely too much of the abandoned space station she'd found herself suckered into helping salvage out in the one system that had housed Jarrako Downs. Even Rei wasn't entirely sure herself how she'd made it off that junk heap after things went south.

Jolted from her thoughts by Thierri's request for help, she scowled again, "I'm not doing this out of the goodness of my heart." She said as she stepped forward to clear out the stairs and debris.

"I don't like any of this either, so don't blame me! At least, if I keep my real body switched out though, I wont turn into a baby..."

Then Iviri would be in big trouble. He was mad at Replica for saying all that stuff, but at the moment he did not want to think about what could happen. Being turned into a baby being one of them.

Iviri himself though kind of hoped that time would get reversed for them by five minutes or something and make them forget all of that. But that was just his personal belief.

As Iviri started though, he then considered something and looked back.

"Hey, by the way...I didn't get a good look at either your tattoo or the writing on the thing. Are you familiar with any of them? Due to...well, extreme circumstances, I know a variety of languages so if you don't know I can probably read it. Since, information would be really helpful for this..."

I just hope the others never learn about this. They would blow a fuse if they heard what trouble I had gotten myself into...

Wraeyoln was nice enough, the Arena proved entertaining with the various races it kept bringing in. Dread Pirate Captain Integra Blackheart was currently looking for some kind of biological weapon. The job was all kinds of shady and Integra almost suspected it of being a front for child slavery, but he didn't really need the money and figured if anyone was going to look into it, it should be someone with the tact to deal with it properly.

Just as the crowd favorite Higim was getting into a fight that might actual interest the mercenary, his headset began chirping in his ear. It was the fourth time in a row he missed the old Duegar's finale and frankly it was starting to irk him. His ship's A.I. had began picking up on a short-range broadcast and it was listening in on it, "It looks like another Ship's AI, though nowhere near as advanced as me ~" Blackheart could almost imagine the avatar's little wink. He had splurged on the artificial intelligence and named it Omnia. She made the ship feel like home, though he loathed to admit it.

"Show me ?" A small map of the arena appeared, highlighting a semi-circle path to an icon representing, where a small signal was being transmitted and received. "Voice recognition would pin her as female, her ship is docked in orbit. And, oh my what a naughty little creature, she is using her A.I. to hedge her bets." That was all Blackheart needed to hear, and he started across the arena. "Mmm, I'm wrong ! She's looking for something more illegal to earn her moolah ~ Child slavery perhaps? Ah... the guards got to her..." Guards complicates things... I don't want to split this bounty Blackheart slowed slightly, chewing on his lip as he mulled the problem over.

"The guards are gone ! And her A.I. has gone silent, probably due to the Mana storm. Little Miss Rebel had to dock in orbit, teehee. Oh.... They're moving" "What? Don't oh me, that doesn't sound good!" He spat out, running after them. "She disappeared, with a biomass and a Tiefling, they are evading my scanners," she let out a disappointed sigh, her personality hadn't been a cheap upgrade to add on.

"Disappeared indeed..." There were no illusions, or residue of magitech transportation. Blackheart stared at the wall in front of him, the trail ended here, at what appeared to be "A safehouse...? This job did not pay well enough to topple a crime syndicate..." The shadows beneath his hand began to lick greedily at the wall, seeming to outline the runes in the wall. Chronomancy strong enough to tantalize Bezalel...? "Sleuth work doesn't become me..."

"What are the odds that's the biomass we're here for?" he half-joked to himself. "Too many variables to accurately calculate with current processing power, permission to off-load to all nearby processors I can wrest control of?" The young man began to head for his ship, The Bleeding Heart, to pay Specter a visit. "Definite no." Perhaps I'll wait for a break in the storm, otherwise i'll have to tack on another thousand for expenses
