The press conference had been a disaster to put it nicely, and it was suspected that what would come out in the evening news wouldn't paint them in a very good light. After all they had been the ones keeping all of this secret from the world at large; keeping everything safely away where it couldn't harm anyone. But unless the media and it's reporters had first hand experience with what most officers dealt with on the daily basis, they would likely be joining the ranks of the rest of the beleaguered law enforcement communities and populations. Being in the media's eye wasn't always good, especially now. Taking a moment to outside the conference room, the Warden prepared herself from the slew of questions she'd no likely encounter from her own officers. Straightening her jacket and smoothing her blouse, she stepped into the already near to overflowing conference room and walked across to the table to set a small laptop down on it's battered wood surface.

Standing from his seat the Dallas office's director looked at the crowd of officers and civilian contractors alike.
"Good morning everyone, if I could have your attention please!" The director shouted above the random noise of the morning's briefing. He was a tall thin man in a dark grey suit, with equally grey hair buzzed short at the sides and barely longer at the top of his head. "Look I know we've all got stuff to do so the sooner you guys can let us get through this the better." The man continued to shout as his voice was quickly lost in the noise generated from hard surfaces, florescent lights, and dozens of people talking all at once. "Everyone, please!" He yelled again, before sighing in frustration. It was like being in charge of a group of children, except these children were given badges and guns. While Catherine generally enjoyed watching the director and assistant director squirm and flounder, this wasn't exactly the right time to enjoy it. Placing two fingers into her mouth, she blew and whistled sharply, catching the attention of most if not all of the people in the room. "Thank you.. Warden." The director muttered before taking his seat again. There was something about the tall woman standing next to him that deeply unnerved the Director, but it was either tolerate her or be jobless. A warden assigned to an office wasn't unusual, it was the fact that this one was female, and seemed to have fairly strong Council ties was what was so unusual.

"I will try to keep this quick." She said as she reached for the small computer on the table. The warden was dressed rather formally, in a dark navy suit with gold colored buttons, and a cream button down blouse. She wore very little jewelry outside a pair of gold earrings, a watch, and single silver ring on her right hand. Her pale blonde, almost white hair had been carefully curled, with half of it pinned up out of her face. A badge hung on a lanyard around her neck, and a gun rested at her hip; much like the other officers'.

"Earlier today one of the children from the school that Fox News spoke to went missing. Her disappearance was reported as soon as her parents discovered her missing. The child in question is Olivia Campbell." The woman added before reaching up and adjusting a pair tortoiseshell glasses that held a pair of slightly tinted lenses. "Olivia Campbell, age 5. She was last seen by Mariah, pack member and schoolmate age 6." She said as the previously blank wall behind her flickered to life with color and a photo of the missing child.

Image

"She attends St. Thomas Aquinas in their half day program. Her brother also attends half days but he is in a different class." The warden continued to explain. "In case I need to repeat what should already be assumed for us, the child isn't human. Her parents are both members of the Cedar Ridge pack."

Watching the director try and get order in the room was always entertaining. The reason for the briefing was not. Molly looked at the photo of the child and closed her eyes. A child, a little 5 year old was missing. She ran a hand over her face and used the moment to regain her composure.

It was predictable. The minute she saw the story she knew something would happen. That a young were wolf had gone missing was not good. The Cedar Ridge pack was going to be up in arms, the children would be terrified. What the hell were they supposed to do to contain this?

"How are we going to divide this up?" She asked quietly. Who would investigate, who would provide protection at the school? They needed to act fast. She was only 5 and must be terrified. The fact that the entire department had been called for this meant there would be a division of labor.

Gods above, let the little girl still be alive. Let her be alive and well and just scared, please. She was just a child. This wasn't an adult in the wrong place at the wrong time. This was a little girl, and a no doubt valued member of the Cedar Ridge pack.

Chrysanta immediately stopped working when the Warden spoke up as she eyed the wall with the picture with the victim. She paled staring at the warden before catching herself and averting her gaze. Kids usually meant the very disturbed wreaking havoc on the innocent. Being a muse meant a certain innate impartiality that applied to both agents as it did to the insane. In that everything she read about her mother she could either suppress everyone and have her own faculties atrophy or the even scales must apply to everyone. Hiding from the problem didn't solve anything but accidentally meeting the disturbed pushing them into something far worse might have been what killed her mother. It figures the first case in this particular office would be one of those. The possibility of meeting such people was always in her mind with this line of work and having her first case be about that kind of bastard made her worry for her and the child both. She had to get the kid back or get her abductor in a cage so the both of them could feel safe. She bought an old store to live in with a metal door and barred windows just so she could not worry about neighbors alone at night. The operatives in the crowded room gave her some semblance of safety for the moment.

A breath later with the loosened button of her collar the leaden weight of the room wasn't so bad.

She wouldn't bring attention to herself so soon but if the lab was in any state of shambles she needed to know certain things ahead of time, "Is there any special evidence processing I'll need to prepare for?"

That was the term they usually used in her former office for the class of 'what's this weird stuff?' coming out of police units or operatives. She figured they'd know what she meant with how wide the evidence packets went out with the label.

Jay flanked his team as he followed them to the briefing room. He stood in the back of the room and scanned the others lounging and talking. Wincing, Jay realized that he knew a few of them from his pre-disgrace days. Well, wouldn't that be an awkward conversation? "Long time no see. The weather's been too hot, huh? I'm good, you? And how did you screw up?"

Before he could wonder about awkward introductions, in came the director and a pale warden. Jay looked at them both with interest. He'd heard that the director was a competent, nondescript man, but it was the warden who interested him further. She also looked familiar... wait. Was that Warden Dumitrescu? His old partner had mentioned her before. Hadn't she been in an insane asylum or something?

He pushed aside any questions in favor of focusing on the case. Jay grimaced when the photo of the child appeared on the screen. Great. Kids. Those cases were always the hardest, especially when they were younger. He didn't know much about the supernatural scene in Texas, unfortunately, so Jay wasn't sure who would do such a thing to a child. That was the first thing to figure out, then. Motivation. Then, the suspect pool could be narrowed. (A small corner of his mind hoped vampires weren't involved... and an even smaller, vicious portion wished that they were.)

Jay glanced at Townsend, who'd spoken up to ask about the lab. He took advantage of her question to ask two of his own. "What are the current leads? And how is the case being divided?"

As the whistle pierced through the room, Dave's hand involuntarily shot up to his temple as his muscles tensed. He bumped the elbow of the detective next to him and received a sideways look of annoyance. He smiled up at the man nervously and turned his attention, as everyone else had, to the Director.

Dave fidgeted with his watch as the meeting went on. A picture of the girl flashed on the screen behind them. Dave thought, well hopefully she was kidnapped, because if she was out there on her own, she probably wouldn't last long. At least the kidnappers would keep her alive for money, maybe. A better chance of survival. At least. With this many blues, they should be able to find her in no time anyways. Wait a second, he thought. If she was a werewolf cub, then it would be incredibly easy to track her based on scent alone. Dave prided himself on his tracking abilities, he once tracked a deer two miles through the mountains up north. This must be why they wanted him in the first place! Of course!

He smacked his head and grinned a bit, pulling a cigarette out of the open soft box in his jacket pocket. He completed the task with a flick of his Zippo and took a long drag. Exhaling, his full round of confidence back, he sat quietly against the wall, smiling to himself. Not only was he going to save the day, but then he could leave this awful city, hopefully with some reward money for the excellent job he did. More importantly, it gave him the perfect excuse to say he requires his car to find her. Once again, the deck was stacking in Dave's favor. Now he just needs to wait for the meeting to end, and let his boss know he was ready to find the little girl. He let out another drag as the cloud of smoke began to grow around him.

Catherine paused for a moment as she surveyed the room. There seemed to be a few new faces, but then again she couldn’t seem to keep names and faces straight some days. The time spent in Broadmoore had left it’s marks, even if everything had been set back to rights the last few years. Glancing at Molly, she sighed inwardly, the woman should know how everything works by the time she reached Sergeant. “A team will be assembled and assigned to the school, while the rest of you will be questioning the parents, and speaking with any informants you might have.” Catherine explained answering Molly’s only question so far, and Jay’s first question.

Then there was Chrysanta’s question, one she hadn’t expected as they were all mostly used to not using their own facilities to process evidence. ’Looks like Council finally gave us someone useful..’ She thought to herself as she sized the woman hiding in the back of the room up. “Anything and everything.” She said before shifting her attention to Jay’s second question.

Frowning, she tried to remember if she had worked with the man during her time in New York. It had been shortly before Council sent her off on a code black assignment, and after that things had gone from bad to worse in her personal and professional life. “As of this afternoon we have no current leads, which is why I’m encouraging everyone to speak to the school, speak to the parents and anyone else they think of.” Catherine answered bluntly before she found herself distracted.

Did someone actually have the audacity to smoke during a briefing? She knew some of the officers smoked from the ashes and stench left in the occasional patrol vehicle, but this wasn’t at all like that. The acrid stench of the tobacco made her feel slightly nauseated, and more than just a little perturbed. Scanning the room again, she looked for the guilty party. “Seriously?” Catherine muttered as she set her laptop back down on the table. Narrowing in on Dave, she made her way through the conference room to where he was standing. At close to six foot, she nearly towered over the man, who very clearly seemed to be doing anything but paying attention. “Is there a reason for you to be smoking in here… Officer?” The warden asked with more than mild annoyance before grabbing the man’s cigarette between two well manicured fingers.

Molly had been able to ask who was on the team at the school, but paused as the scent of smoke hit her nose. "Who the hell..." She whispered and turned to source it as Catherine spoke. Her eyes narrowed and she glared at Davien. "Davien." The censure in her voice was clear, and she was not pleased. He would be hearing about this at length from her.

She almost wanted to congratulate him. He had just volunteered to dig through the trash as far as she was concerned, and to be her sparring partner in training. Her eyes hit on Chrysanta and on Wallace. They are least seemed to be behaving. They better continue behaving too. She knew they were the reject office, but this was ridiculous.

Molly sighed. "...I'll speak to the kids." She volunteered quietly. Children were something she was often assigned to anyway, and if she heard a single quip about her fitting in with them she'd be very unimpressed. Still, interviewing child witnesses was never fun.

Chrysanta wasn't surprised by the answer given and just nodded. Her eyes looked off to ponder what she could set up with what she had in the van. She only owned just so much stuff after being booted out of morris's lab. With what she was told about the state of the lab she was going into some things just took too long to set up from scratch let alone from abject mayhem. The nature of divination and such other means of gathering information required thorough cleansing less of the antiseptic sort but definitely after the antiseptic. Not to mention she had to refresh any wards in the lab to keep spirits from just wandering in when she did that sort of activity out of sheer self-preservation. More scientific pursuits didn't need such setup though she still at least needed to sanitize an area to avoid evidence contamination. Who knows what equipment they had even worked or got calibrated this decade.

Sighing at the work ahead of her she wrinkled her nose at someone starting up a cigarette but it didn't bother her all that much. Half her evidence came in smelling like either smoke or chew tobacco. It was a good thing someone made sure detectives sealed evidence in plastic bags before coating everything in a thin film of nicotine. As she looked at the looming warden she had a feeling she knew who that someone was.

Though considering a timetable she opted not to bother an irritated superior with it right now.

Dave could see her approaching from at least a few steps out, but had no idea she was coming for him. As he went to put the cigarette to his lips once again, the feeling of eyes upon him from several directions made his skin crawl slightly. Looking up to Catherine towering over her, Dave could immediately tell something was wrong, and it was his fault. His muscles began to tense again as he adjusted his glasses with his free hand.

"Is there a reason for you to be smoking inside, Officer?"

She plucked the lit and mostly unfinished butt from his hand.

Oh. Just that. He relaxed a bit and looked back up to her.

"Well the meeting is in here, and the peoples say I cannot go out there. So I have to smoke in here. But it's alright."

He smiled nervously and looked up to the detective who he had accidentally bumped earlier, for a little backup. The detective looked back down at him, bewildered as well at his actions. Thanks for the help, Dave thought. Hesitantly turning back to Catherine, he adjusted his glasses and began to rub his wrist, eyes focusing in and out on the still burning tip of the cigarette in Catherine's fingertips.

"Em... But the meeting is over now yeah? So we can all go outside and smoke!"

He pulled out the pack and showed he had enough for everyone.

"So lets go outside now."

Jay almost, almost scoffed when she said to "speak with their informants," but he was well-versed in keeping his mouth shut. Informants? Oh, sure, he'd just phone up... oh wait, this was Texas. He got here yesterday. How was he supposed to have informants here? He tried to think of anyone who'd still talk to him from New York; perhaps he'd still have one or two friends who hadn't completely rejected his existence and were willing to give him an in. Unlikely, but you never know.

One team for the school and the others just to... question the parents and do what they wanted? Wow. So professional. That was made worse by their total lack of leads. Texas really was as bad as the rumors suggested. His self-control just kept him from laughing when Davien lit up a cigarette. Jay didn't know whether to be impressed at the man's balls or horrified that he'd done so indoors and during a briefing. Poor man. Judging from Bronson and the Warden's faces, Davien was in for some trouble.

Jay was a little surprised when Bronson volunteered to talk to the kids. That was usually the worst part. Well, in his opinion. Who knew what his new sup' preferred? That was quickly forgotten as he saw Davien talk back to the Warden about the cigarette. Oh, damn. He directly asked if the meeting was over and told the Warden to go outside! Nice. Really nice. Jay couldn't help but raise his eyebrows in anticipation, waiting to see what his superiors were do. If Jay had any doubts before, he was absolutely certain now—he'd bet good money that Davien had been conscripted into this job.

Then again, Davien hadn't been wrong, either. The briefing had been rather useless with no real information given. Privately, he agreed. So, was it over now or not? Was there any more information? Or could the warden just dismiss them so he could he actually get to work?

Catherine had been about ready to give the group information on whom exactly would be doing what, when they started asking questions, very quickly derailing the briefing that she had intended to make as short as possible. "Unless you are on fire... and that can be arranged, I suggest you refrain from lighting up again." She instructed the new officer taking the cigarette carton out of his hand and tossing it into a nearby waste basket before returning to the front. "Well it was better than what happened to the last guy..." Xiaolian said leaning over and whispering in Molly's ear for a moment.

Sighing Catherine looked at her notes again trying to find her place. "Look, Bronson and Boyuan will assign each of you a specific role in relation to the case. Thankfully we're still well within our 24 hour window before we really have worry, but this is urget." She explained, briefly wondering how they had been alerted so quickly. An Amber Alert had yet to be issued on the side of the mundane cops and the parents pretty much allowed their children to be latch key kids; something Catherine couldn't say she approved of given the state of the world currently.

"In addition to this, someone will need to access the school after hours and scan for any sort of magical or psychic residue that doesn't match profiles listed... and also take a look at the house." It was a crap shoot, but someway or another they needed to find the child alive; for the sake of all political relations at risk. "As well as someone will go with me to speak with the Cedar Ridge pack." Catherine added, not terribly looking forward to that.

All they could do right now was just start with a basic investigation and go from there. "We don't have much to go off, and that's unfortunate... but it is what it is. Any further questions?"

Molly’s glare intensified on Davien, and she leaned over to speak to Xiaolian. “Apologize to Townsend for me. You’ll have to show her to the lab. I have a rookie to speak with.” She murmured, voice pitched so only Boyuan should be able to hear. “I think he’ll make an excellent sparring partner after work today, don’t you?” There was mischief in her voice. No one wanted to spar with Molly, not when she was being serious about it. She wasn’t known for taking it easy on whoever she fought against, especially if she knew they were capable. Either way, she’d wear the rookie out before he got to go to whatever place he was been given temporarily. He had been pressganged into this after all. Temporary rooms were available for transfers and those who were…less willing officers.

As it was they’d also have to figure out what to do with Shastri. He wasn’t a completely rookie like Davien was, but he had been light on experience with the unseen. Still, given the news, she was leaning towards this being a mundane attacker, not a magical one. His skills may be just what they needed. Molly considered it and murmured to Xiaolian again. “Take Shastri with you? I’ll be busy with the kids, but he’s got some experience.” And shouldn’t bot Xiaolian down too much. That still left someone to talk to the Cedar Ridge pack though, and she wasn’t sure who. Not Davien. He was…well, he wasn’t trained yet, and it showed. Why did a child victim case show up with a complete rookie?

Hm, perhaps Townsend would have the tools or spells to scan the school after hours. Even if Molly suspected a mundane person right now, it paid to be thorough. Besides, even mundane people left impressions. It could be useful once they had a few suspects to have even a record of those impressions.

Dave stood frozen in place as Catherine snatched the pack from him, tossing it into the wastebasket. Looking from his empty hand, to the wastebasket, to Catherine, he raised up his other hand in exasperation. Dave began to open his mouth to protest how truly rude he thought that was, but decided to follow his gut feeling and shut up. After all, who knows how much worse he could make it.

Folding his arms, Dave fell back against the wall, a scowl etched deeply across his face. He hadn't interrupted, he hadn't said anything. He hadn't running towards the window for an escape attempt. He was being perfectly nice and cooperative, and cooperation was hard to press out of him sometimes. He had really lucked out finding a full unattended pack at some Gas station, and was even luckier the blues hadn't taken them from him. Eying the wastebasket, he was going to be back for those.

Continuing to fume, Dave drummed his fingers on his elbows, completely uninvested in the ongoing meeting. You know, the worst part is this whole scene put him in his absolute least favorite place to be: The center of attention. It had shifted back to the front of the room and Catherine, thankfully, but his skin still crawled and his jaw tingled slightly. Someone or multiple someones were still looking at him. He did a quick once over of the room, and found Molly staring daggers at him. Dave shrunk down a little bit involuntarily, trying to break line of sight using the poor detective just trying to pay attention as his cover. Being a firm believer in luck, Dave believed it was just his that he managed to piss of one of the largest, most Alpha females in the entire room.

He attempted to pretend like he didn't know Molly was staring at him, looking straight ahead and continuing to drum his fingers, even with his mind screaming that she was. Sighing to himself, he decided the cigarettes he would chalk up as a loss. Dave had pictures in his head of Molly somehow making him fit in that wastebasket too if he tried to grab them. Besides, he could tell for sure that the meeting was beginning to wrap up. Using the crowd and his small stature, he attempted to move his way towards the door unnoticed. This was near impossible as everyone in the room now knew his face and disheveled appearance. He persisted nonetheless.

All he wanted, no... Needed was ten minutes alone, preferably not in a windowless room with the fluorescent lights and the scent of pine sol and plastics. Without a constant escort or someone watching him. For the last 24 hours the feeling of eyes upon him and the roughing up he received in the jail, almost being outed for what he was and... wait... He hadn't even eaten in the last two days either. Or slept in the last one. He must be running on adrenaline alone.
Well, he thought: At least its over. He may not know where he's staying tonight, but as long as it wasn't in a jail cell or a lab he would be fine with even a sidewalk, if he could see the stars. As for the meeting... Well. It went slightly better than the worst it could have gone. At least this crazy day was almost done, and nothing else could keep him from at least wandering off temporarily to collect himself.

As he reached the door, he gave one last glance back before turning the knob. He hesitated there, and thought of the last brilliant idea he had with the cigarettes. Perhaps he had better make absolutely sure everyone was done talking before he left. He'd wait for another person to open the door first, but he will be one of the first ones out.

Chrysanta was taking notes on her pad while the warden gave Davien the evil eye. Herself looking with a sympathetic one but she rather figured he wasn't here by choice and clearly good decisions didn't exactly get him here. She busied herself with other concerns at the moment looking over spells of influence by proxy. Scanning the school was one thing, she had the drone, but any sort of magical awareness she really didn't have anything set up for with no time to do it in. A few finger flicks moved to pages about summoning attractants gave an audible worried sigh. Schools were filthy with emotions and quick and dirty would be an understatement. The helper would have to roam the school with the divination proxy while she recorded the noise. Definitely way too emotionally noxious a locale to do it directly without protective agents she just didn't own.

Chrysanta spoke up to the warden, "I can go through the house forensically first then do the school that night to look for violent or black traces when they're strongest. I'll need a divination helper for anything I could do safely right this minute with what I have."

Her face was tense looking up to the right to find an explanation, "It'd be nice to have one with gestalt exorcism experience if things go south at the school. I can't exorcise myself."

Honestly, Jay wondered if no one had told Davien anything before dumping him with the MCU. This thought was support by Davien almost leaving the room, though he had the good sense to wait at the door instead. Jay felt some slight sympathy for the man and even considered saying something, but it was really none of his business or responsibility. Not anymore. The Lieu' and Sarg' would take care of that, and judging by Molly's continued, expressive irritation, it wouldn't be very pleasant.

Speaking of which, Bouyan and Bronson were disusing something intently. Jay would bet that they were discussing placements and team distribution, of which he felt slight curiosity about. Oh gods, he hoped they didn't set him on the children. He was perhaps the world's most awkward person around them. The only experienced Jay had was with his nephew... though that likely didn't count, considering how estranged he was from his family now.

Before Jay's thoughts could go down that depressing rabbit hole, Townsend spoke up with a rather grim and tense expression, explaining that she could could go through the house forensically, but she'd rather have someone experienced with exorcism on hand for the school. He... had an obligation to say something, huh. Jay had spent four years of his life learning and breathing those rituals, and back in NY, if he wasn't on a vampire case, he was on one related to exorcism.

Holding back a sigh, Jay commented, "I'm quite familiar with exorcism and related phenomenon. If needed, I could step in."

He had all his stuff, though they were still stuffed in a suitcase. Scriptures (though not strictly necessary, considering he'd memorized it all), a conch shell, water from holy rivers, incense... and, of course, holy fire in case things became really serious. That was unlikely, though. Ordinary schools were nasty places emotionally and psychically—alone one packed with non-mundane kids—but if a high-level demon or being was prowling the classrooms, there would likely be more severe, immediate effects. But maybe there had been. With the details the MCU currently had, they were operating blind.

"Molly, don't..." Xiaolian replied with exasperation. Why did the Sargeant always want to spar with those who seemed less than qualified to even be fighting? "Look... we'll put the guy on some sort of detail once we figure out what the hell he's in here for." She added before scribbling a note to herself on her papers that that actually needed to be done.

Meanwhile Catherine looked over to Chrysantha and Jay again. "Thank you...?" She replied not certain that a name had yet been placed to these two officers. "Then you'll be on Lieutenant Boyuan's team." She added deciding to just assign officers to teams, instead of letting them pick. It would result in fewer headaches later, or so she hoped. Besides, which, separating Bronson and Boyuan for awhile might be good for both of them.

"Then it appears that Sergeant Bronson, and Davien will be speaking with the parents, children, and without anyone volunteering to go speak to the Cedar Ridge pack... I'll be picking someone." Catherine remarked with mild annoyance. Speaking with the pack would be her job one way or another if only because of the political fragility that this case brought. "Alright, everyone is dismissed. If you have any questions you can speak with your commanding officer or me."

"Relax, he hasn't even been through an orientation." She murmured, amused. "It looks like I'm with him, so I'll try and straighten out some details while he's with me." He was new. He had some leeway, even when she really wanted to smack some sense into him. But those were the other instincts, the one she needed to ignore firmly.

She wasn't too thrilled with Davien coming with her, but it would be fine. He needed to be briefed regardless, poor man. Still, speaking to the parents and kids was a be responsibility. Hopefully it would be fine. she ran a hand through her hair and considered things briefly. This was going to complicate matters, she just knew it.

She'd definitely be talking to him about the smoking, if nothing else. It was a bad habit in general, but among people with sensitive senses, it was a worse one.

She stood and intercepted Davien, not wanting him to get far. "Hey, come on. Let's get you equipped before we go." He'd need handcuffs, at the least.

Dave may not know much, but he knew what "Dismissed" meant. To his dismay the first person to come towards the door was Molly. But surprisingly to Dave she asked him to follow her to get equipped. He knew that Equipped meant free things. Dave was mentally out of juice, didn't want to argue, and probably wouldn't have anyways.
He opened the door and made a gesture with his free arm through the opening.

"Please, after you then."

He mustered up a smile to go with it. He might as well attempt to make a better impression on her, for his safety and well being. Even if he wasn't going to get the solitude he wanted, getting out of that crowded room would be more than enough for now.

Chrysanta heard the questioning tone very clearly paying attention as she was. She stated the answer though she added context to the open ended question, "Chrysanta Townsend, thank you Warden. My father retired from MCU violent crimes last year."

When she felt the headless presences start to stir Chrysanta pressed her shoulder blades into the wall. Eyes darting from chair to chair her pose was stiff but not flighty.

Jay gave a polite if slightly strained smile to the infamous woman standing before him. "I'm Detective Jayasekhar Shastri, Warden," he said with a nod. "I was formerly of the New York Branch."

He continued listening as the warden continued to assign teams. Feeling not a small amount of relief when he was put onto the lieu's team instead of the sergeant's, Jay shifted his gaze to the two women he's be working with. Chrysantha seemed more than a little uncomfortable, which made him curious. He'd missed her initial introduction—did she have any psychic ability or other senses that were being irritated? He wouldn't know unless he asked or touched her, and that was definitely not appropriate behavior during a briefing.

Jay looked at his commanding officer and held back a smirk when he saw Xiaolian's exasperation towards the other two members of their team. Yup, this is definitely going to be fun group, he thought dryly. Then, thankfully, the meeting was dismissed, so Jay made his way towards Boyuan.

When he actually spoke to her, Jay was the picture of professionalism. "Lieutenant Boyuan, is there anything you would like us to know before we begin? What would you prefer to approach first?" He wasn't sure how she liked to do things, so it'd probably be best to figure that out first.

Surveying the pair for a moment, Catherine nodded. "Shastri and Townsend then, you're with Boyuan." She instructed pointing the pair towards where Xiaolian sat glaring daggers at Molly, hoping that somehow that would encourage her partner to behave beyond antics that included hazing the new officers. Catherine wanted to be done with this briefing as soon as possible, even if that meant going back to sleep in her office with the shades drawn. Either way, she was rather skeptical about this newest crop of officers, and hoped that they would at least have learned something from the academy or at least their last positions.

Xiaolian started slightly when Jay spoke, obviously lost in thought and plotting something against the insanity that her partner tended to exude. "Oh, hm... Well I have to take Townsend down and show her the lab... then after that I expect we'll be going out to take a look at the school. We need to wait till all the kids have gone home."

Molly sent an angelic smile to Boyuan. "Come on Davien, before I get us in more trouble than we already are." She murmured and escorted him down the hall to supplies. They'd need to get him kitted out after all and she smiled to him, the two largely alone, but for the supply officer keeping an eye on things. "Hey, don't worry about where you're sleeping tonight by the way. There's a dorm for conscripted officers and new ones, until they've got enough saved for a down payment on a decent place." Pay was excellent for this particular branch of the police. It came with the territory of increased danger and weirdness, given what they dealt with.

"And so long long as it isn't stolen or illegal, your property will be waiting there this evening." She assured him. She knew it helped. "I know you're here for some kind of punishment, but we take care of our own." She assured him and grinned. "You have to pass firearms certification before we can get you a gun, but you'll get a baton and a uniform now." And he'd have to change. Molly didn't wear a uniform, but Molly was a detective, not just an officer.

Davien followed along with Molly, trying to keep up with her steps. Her stride was longer than his by just enough of a margin to have him have to power walk just a bit to keep stride.

She was being very nice to him, and he mirrored her facial expressions and general demeanor. He was grateful for the things she was offering to him, especially the room. However, it was still slightly suspicious his mind. He couldn't help his mindset, as every single person who had been nice to him in the past had burned, or more accurately tried to burn him.

Dave flinched a bit when he heard molly say "stolen." That ruled out the car being returned most likely, as he had left the screwdriver in the cracked column in an obvious show of wrongdoing. But perhaps maybe some of his effects would be there in the least.

Dave had remained mainly quiet this whole time, with the occasional "Yeah" or "uh huh", to show he was paying attention. He gathered his uniform and club, and took a brief look around.

"Em..." He trailed off before his sentence began.

"So I guess I put this on now? But where?"

He glanced around the room for any obvious place that he was missing.

Every so often her unconscious mind met a concept it could not or would not reconcile. One in particular were those whose minds it couldn't interact with. Those whose minds couldn't be perceived or in the case of a irshi, supported. Generally the disconnect between an observed person and the lack of an identity at their place in the world pushed up as the deep feeling that she was being watched by headless people. That one got somewhat used to. Then there were some more innately impenetrable than others and she didn't always know about it before moving them into the foreground to interact. Until the dissonance convinced the very literal subconscious mind, unable to tolerate the logical inconsistency of non-contact, of a new truth that satisfied and met with its understanding of the world. Like an optical illusion that told of the mind's need the world to be predictive not just logical in its whole. Other more abstract inconsistencies and illusions were somethings left entirely Chrysanata's conscious problem.

As when she approached Boyuan Chrysanta's unconcious simply suppressed away Boyuan's entire head and the non-mind it saw there replacing the empty dissonance with a throbbing stump. Chrysanta paled and turned a little green for a moment stopped in her tracks. She'd seen worse but a neck moving around presumably still attached to a head that was looking at things if not her person was not something one got used to. Ever. Sometimes they still had a lower jaw for reasons she didn't quite understand. Unfortunately for Chrysanta she knew how all the parts inside should work and what they looked like even if it was an implicit educated guess on her part.

Hands balled Chrysanta tugged wrinkles away from her silky shirt and moved up near the lieutenant a mild hitch in her voice, "I'm ready when you are Lieutenant. I have my evidence suit in my van I can change there before we go."

Chrysanta couldn't help but stare where she just saw a stump pulsing blood into nothingness.

Boyuan quickly explained what they were going to do, and Jay nodded along.

"That's fair," he said. "It should give me enough time to grab the things I need." He'd brought along a few supplies just in case, of course, but Jay hadn't expected to take on any big spiritual nasties. (They always had a habit of showing up when you weren't prepared, though.) It wasn't like Jay hadn't done more with less; when given the choice, though, he'd rather be prepared.

The aforementioned tech approached. She didn't... seem alright, though, turning a little sickly. The catch in her voice only furthered that, and Townsend seemed to stare at Boyuan as if their superior had grown another head. Was something wrong? Jay barely knew her, and it wasn't like he had a particularly bleeding heart, but if he was going to go into a potentially-dangerous place with spiritual nasties, he'd rather do it with someone who was in top-shape. Those beings were drawn to weakness like sharks to blood.

Unfortunately, Jay wasn't the best sensor. Sure, if he was touching someone he could get a good-enough read on their magical potential/origin, and if he tried really hard he might get a vague sense of their emotional state, but Jay's psychic powers were limited to decent-ish shielding. That meant he'd have to do it the old fashioned way: communication. Joy.

"Townsend, are you alright?" he asked casually, just bland enough that it sounded like an ordinary query instead of true concern.
