The fire soldier frowned. "...I object to dividing ourselves like this, but...you are in charge. I shall summon the others." The man snapped his fingers, a burst of willpower allowing the friction to superheat the air and create a spark, which he then funneled more focus into until a ball of fire spun before him. This ball soon expanded into an arched doorway, and from this emerged the rest of the squad, over the course of about a minute in single file. Meanwhile, the soldier's lips never ceased moving through the motions of speech, apparently using the flame to converse. Finally, the flames abruptly died off as he clenched his fist. "Khiragt is busy. He will join us at first opportunity." He stated softly. The squad leader nodded once, then looked to Asral. "You have not yet moved. I assume you came up with a new plan?"

Asral wanted to snap at the man. Were all fire people so rude?
She planted both hands on her hips and nodded to usie who dove back into the water and was seen no more. Nell was waiting munching on an oatcake.
'we need one of your soldiers to go with nell" She snapped feeling irritated.
Nell nodded downing the rest of the oatcake and stretched to warm up. It was true that she was very fast and it would probably not give her any winning points if she commented that her father was air nation.
When they decided nell nodded to asral ran backwards a bit and then without preamble set off. She was truly fast and after a few seconds she had vanished into the underbrush, keeping to the sides of the river then she pushed forward until she was behind the the animals, but not too close that they would sight her.

Asral felt like she had just made a mistake...not because she was afraid that her girls would come to harm...but because she knew that she would be very irritated with these men very soon. She pushed her shoulders back. She was a princess and nothing intimidated...
"all right we are to follow the edge of the river until we find the mountain range."
and then she strode forward and walked fast.

The squad leader looked to one of the younger men and gave him a small nod. The man would move off after Nell, vanishing after her. The squad leader then looked back to Asral, giving a short nod as the remaining members of his squad fell in behind her, with him walking next to her. They all moved in silence, save the occasionally sound of armor or weapons rattling as the metal made contact. The soldiers' eyes were never still, always they were moving about, searching for possible dangers to the women they had been told to safeguard...and yet, it was clear that the implacable Fire men were on edge. "I don't like this." The squad leader said suddenly. "It's...too easy." They had met no resistance except for a single patrol...surely the Earth Tribe was more secure than this.

Asral felt like something had to go wrong. Not that she was pessimistic or anything but things tend to go wrong sometimes. She pushed ahead silently. She was so used to cracking jokes and teasing the girls that this seemed more like a funeral march and their silence invited no friendly chat.
She wished she had brought Alisha, but Alisha was creepy and she rather have the silence.
Soon though the path that they were following became a dense wood and dark. She turned around to see the soldiers and said outloud "what the hell? there was no wood before...it was pure open land...there was not even a hill!"
but here they were in a wooded area that was dank and smelled like dead leaves and decay. she pushed ahead but the more they walked in the worse it became. thorns and brambles and think underbrush. She tried to summon water but to her dismay she could summon nothing. She took out her blades and began to cut trough the leaves and vines but there was always more of it.
She stood back and looked around. There was woods all around them.
" either we are drugged or this wood just came out of the nowhere' and she was afraid of telling them she couldnt summon water...at all.

The squad lead frowned. "...As expected. This has been to easy." He breathed a sigh, stretching out his neck. "I am loath to try burning all of this...it would give us away for sure...but if we have no choice, then..." The captain would snap his fingers, using the same trick as the elder squad member to amplify the friction's heat to produce a spark, which he then spun into a ball of flames in his palm. Leaving the ball there, he would swing his arm through the flames, spreading them into a wave that lashed forward, making its devouring assault upon the foliage. The fire he had summoned to burn the stuff obscured their vision of the results, so once he had sent the flames on their way, he would settle in to wait. "I don't like this." He muttered again

The captain shot forward his ball of fire and Asral felt the flame so close that she was afraid that it would burn her hair...or at least her eyebrows. When the smoke and everything dissipated...the forest was still intact. There was no sign that anything at all had been burned.
"your fire must be very weak" she said with a slight smile that meant something around the lines of "we are more than certainly screwed"
She pushed ahead breaking trough the bramble, hacking here and there but it was too dense.
and suddenly like she had been woken up by a dream by cold water she opened her eyes and saw that they were once more upon the edge of the river...and she was midway into the water.
Usie was standing above her and shook her head.
"there is something strange going on...I found all of you walking like drunks around a circle..and suddenly a ball of fire shot forward and I did my best to put it out before it burned anything...but it set some of the grass on fire...If had not doused it...you all would have burned without knowing it...what did you guys eat?"She shook her head at them like they were simple "do not eat mushrooms here...they tend to be hallucinogenics"
Asral shook her head and pushed herself up the bank. "we ate nothing..."
Usie had drenched the rest with water and asral shook her head.
"we ate nothing"

The captain frowned, each member of the squad abruptly encasing themselves in a burst of flames, hissing violently as the water was evaporated from their bodies in a billowing cloud of steam. "They know we are here." He stated bluntly. "Illusions to confuse us, and quiet to lull us. Their defenses toy with us." He shook his head slowly. "It doesn't matter. We need to continue forward...but we also need a way to safeguard against these damned tricks." He crouched down, sighing softly. "The one that was in the river...she was obviously not affected by this trap. BUt...we cannot all travel in the water as you women can. A boat, perhaps...but will it be enough to keep it from occurring? I can't be certain."

"we could walk on water" Asral blurted out. But Usie smiled "we could but it would not be so wise. what I think happened is a sort of maybe gas...maybe they are dropped about and someone stepped on it...or they are aware of our presence which means that nell and your companion are in danger"
"i think it was the gas. I was not affected because I was underwater. I was able to wake you up by drenching water on you"
She shook her head and dove underneath and then came back. Her skin had been drying and she needed to continue in her transformation.
"I found a place where they cross the beast to the other side ....on that bridge there is a large earth patrol...I think we have to contact Nell and tell her to come back a little"

Asral nodded and then Usie was gone to look for nell.

She scratched her head. She never wanted an adventure. Well she did but not of this kind...more like with a man in some remote island...
not rescuing her sister from a country that seemed way too sneaky.
"hopefully nell will come back in case we are once more in trouble" She added wryly.
She moved faster marching across the plain with great speed. She did not like the quiet...nor the absence of birds and rabbits scurrying about.

The squad leader was silent as the discussed amongst themselves, taking note of Usie's mention of the patrol at the bridge. He would glance back at his men, all of whom were already in the process of double checking the edges of razor-sharp weapons. He would then turn, following Asral without hesitation, his men following. "The one with your friend will keep her safe...though, the gas is worrisome." As far as adventures and the sort went...men of the Fire Tribe were raised to battle; they marched and fought in skirmishes for long portions of their lives. Ever militant, ever disciplined...they were used to travel under less-than-ideal conditions. For them, it was just another mission...on with a lower chance of success than they were used to, perhaps, bu they were determined to see it through nonetheless. "We should begin considering the possibility of combat. If there is no other way across the bridge, then we will have to take out that patrol."

There was a blur in the distance and soon it approached them. The girl stopped by sliding on the earth and then coming to a still. Her braid slapped her face and she pushed it back.
"Yo asral, I went and followed the cattle down down into the thing. They are traveling faster and some of the people on the back...the farmers were talking outloud. It seems that the earth nation is in some sort of skirmish with some "trolls" i have no idea what those things are...but Usie might know. They want to cross the river fast and then get to the caves before it becomes dark...these things only come at night and have been destroying the crops and destroying tunnels in the underground cities...i could hear no more because Usie contacted me to come back a little..."
She looked to the river and something silvery jumped up and dove back into the water. At the edge Usie surfaced.
"like you said Nell...they are traveling fast...seems they are going to close down the bridge very soon."
she eyed the sky "darkness is approaching and it seems they are running from something"
"trolls" nell said "do not know what they are but they are running from that"

"ugh. Trolls in ancient history were monsters...these are part of another faction of the earth tribe...they are far stronger and have lived deeper into the mines and tunnels...they have gotten into a war with the earth tribe because the earth lord does not want to allow them to live once more on the surface...the surface it seems its only to plant the crops the royal city will consume...plus the nobles and the rest...the trolls as they are called to insult them..are taller and more broad and they used to be the miners. They complained to the earth lord that they needed fresher food for their children and wives...and to be allowed to visit the surface...they stopped working the mines ...and then the earth lord sent his army to destroy where they lived and killed their women and children...very dangerous...we do not need to cause trouble...either we take out the patrol before they close down the river...or we stay on this side where they will come scavenge for food...that's why is so quiet...the land is being hunted out...there is very little fish in the river too..all right asral... we need to get to the tunnels before they close them down...come on.."
She vanished. Nell saluted the rest and once more sped off.

The Fire soldiers were largely unconcerned with the matters that seemed to have the Water girls in such distress. They simply followed as the women took off once more. There were few amongst the populations of the other Nations who could boast being as skilled a warrior as even a basic Fire soldier...and these were some of the best the nation had to offer, moving in a small group with a defined target. They would be swift, precise, and invariably lethal...which meant that a force as small in numbers as a patrol, expecting trolls rather than this group, would be little more than a nuisance. They would take them out as necessary, and otherwise...they merely followed.

Asral was not the fastest girl of the three, but soon she was moving faster along the river, keeping a good pace and never stopping. Usie would come back at random times checking on them and apart from stepping on illusions where they were surrounded by desert, thick woods, amid an unforgiving sea and also in the sky that felt like you were forever falling, nothing new occurred. Everytime they fell into a new illusion, Asral walked five steps to the left and fell face first into the river. By the end she was very angry and soaked.

They reached the bridge and Usie with the help of a fire man took out the men manning the bridge. but as soon as the guards were out so was the bridge.
Asral grinned and extended her hand to the fireman "shall we walk the wet road sir, or do you intend to cross unaided"
