It is not one's skin that determines who they will be but how they think.
Name Isabella Turnio
Age 23
Occupation Maid
Appearance Isabella has been both blessed and cursed with beautiful dark golden skin. Coming from an African descent, she was greatly racially scrutinized by the people around her. Her mother, a product of an affair between her grandmother and her British Master, had a much lighter skin compared to other African descent which Isabella inherited herself.
Her eyes tells the story of a girl who has gone through a lot, round as saucers which are brown of color that sometimes turn light and sometimes dark.
Her lips plump with the like the insides of a ripe plum. A bit dark but almost blood bitten. A natural color that a lot of woman might envy her for if not for her social status.
Her small frame could also fool any one, one would think she is frail and a weakling but having to grow in an environment where she started doing manual work at an early age, Isabella is surprisingly strong. She can cut woods for winter and even lift two pails full of water from the well.
To add to her ethnicity, her hair is a wild bunch of thick, curly and dark hair which she hides underneath her bonnet.
Personality A maid she maybe but Isabella is a head strong kind of woman. Unlike her mother, she was able to grow up in a better environment- both of her parents present and a home they can consider their's even if they were just employees.
The Doctors that her parents worked for are more than glad to help them. They provided her with old books and even presented to teach her how basic writing and reading. An opportunity very rare for helpers like them.
Her childhood was more than enough to show her that there is more for her than what society is trying to impose, she was determined to defy stereotyping and make a difference for the minorities.
She often wants to speak what's on her mind but her status and skin color often tells her not to. She would purse her lips and swallow hard, a way to control herself when she does not approve of the turn of events. One could say that she works underground, she would rather improve herself and prepare. This way she would know how to handle a situation the next time. However, some people still would not give her the chance.
Isabella would often dwell on the positive instead of sulking on the negative, she would think of what her parents and the Doctors would do or say on such situations before acting impulsively, this, she found out have saved her skin thousands of times.
After being employed under the roof of Dr. Basil Granger, Isabella has started to question herself on why she kept on dealing with her Master's mood when she could have moved out and be employed somewhere else, a question she still can't determine. (OOC: will remove this if needed)
History Ydella Ropento just have taken a voyage from her mother land, Africa. She gathered all her courage to seek a new life in London and was blessed to have not met any danger on her journey. She was luckily hired as a floor scrubber in Sicilian styled mansion at the country side of London. Her beauty was unlike of the usual, even as an African her skin was not something that she minded and got in the way of her dreams, her son's master, only known with the name of Frederick saw more beyond people's discrimination and soon started an affair with her. His love was great, but it wasn't great enough for him to fight for their relationship. And soon, he rode away for the University without knowing he was to have a daughter.
Friedda Ropento was born and raised in the seedy side of London, a small room that served as their bedroom, kitchen and everything else one can do in that small space that served as home for a single mother and her daughter. Amazingly, many wondered why Friedda has a much lighter skin tone than that of her mother's, it has also been a source of scrutinizing from other kids she wanted to play with. Even if they are all in the slums, the British born and fair skinned children still thinks she was different and should not be approached so she spent her time waiting for her mother to come home from work and learned how to do house hold chores on her own.
When she was 14, Friedda decided to follow her mother's footsteps and tried to work as a house help. She had to traverse the cold winter mornings just so she can provide money to buy her sick mother some medicine. She was starting to cough out blood and Friedda no longer knows what to do. Sure enough, at the 8th knock, a couple of doctors were kind enough to accept her as a kitchen helper. They also provided some free medicine and help on her ailing mother but it wasn't enough since her tuberculosis (she later found out the reason for the blood) has been at its worst and took her life. Friedda then moved in with her employers and soon met her better half, the couple's henchman. Three years later, they welcomed a baby daughter, a girl who soon was set to conquer the world on her own- Isabella.
Isabella's parents were soon involved in an accident, shockingly they were accompanying the two Doctor's on a voyage to Falklands Islands, where the couple was invited by one of the people in society, no one knew what happened to the ship but Isabella's waiting lasted her 3 years before she was able to accept the cold truth.
As a part of the lawyer's note, she was to be sent away with only a few shillings to help her last a month without a roof, she was soon on the same path as her mother- searching for employment. Alas- one household accepted her. Dr. Basil Granger's (OOC: might change this if it's not okay with LadyND- but i asked)
