Ryan O'Connell "Krótos"

"There is no light anymore. My whole world is stained black."

0 · 393 views · located in Jump City

a character in “The New Teen Titans”, as played by XShishioX

Description

Image
Full Name: Ryan O'Connell

Meaning: Ryan means "Little King" and O'Connell means "Strong as a Wolf"

Alias: "Krótos" meaning "Crash"

Alignment: Villain/Rogue. He does what he does to "protect" the City, even if his methods are "wrong".

Gender: Male

Age: 17

Height: 5 feet and 10 inches

Weight: 160 pounds. He's skinny, not scrawny while still having a good bit of muscle.

Appearance: Krótos always wears a mask. The right side of his face is horribly scarred, though there is no deformation. While his skin remains perfectly smooth, the scar itself is a deep red that covers roughly a third of his face. His black hair is long and straight, cut with bangs that frame his face. He ties it up into a ponytail with a simple piece of white cloth, much like a samurai. His eyes, though blinded, are a grey-ish blue. He would be very attractive if not for the horrible scar. His features are sharp, but not angular or square, they still retain the gentle softness of his teenage years. He wears an all black jumpsuit with thin Teflon and Kevlar plates over his striking surfaces and vital areas. The plates are on his shoulders, chest, shins, knees, knuckles, and the heels of his palms. He wears lightweight boots that go up to the middle of his shin. The toes are plated like his suit. He has a utility belt that he wears around his waist where he keeps his weapons. He always has a pair of hunting knives, a staff like Robin's, and a kukiri in his belt. These weapons can all be combined to form a scythe. Over the top of everything, Krótos wears a black trench coat with a high collar.

Motto/Catch Phrase: Trademark silence while in combat. He says nothing, not even taunting or jeering at his opponents.

Personality: He is very quiet and stoic, not saying much unless pressed to speak. He is also incredibly analytic, always heavily judging the situation before acting. He is very loyal to the people who have helped him, not wanting to be weighed down by the debt he owes them. He can be surprisingly whimsical when he wants to be, though he doesn't show that side of himself often.

Likes:

~Sweet things, like candy or pastries, as well as cute things, like baby animals and the like. He's a total softie at heart.
~Music, he loves the sounds of classical or folk music.
~Fighting. Now that he has the strength to stand up for himself, Krótos will do so often and whenever a challenge presents itself.
~Krótos loves people. He likes the feeling of being acknowledged and being praised, though he'd never let anyone know he has a "softer side."

Dislikes:

~People who don't stick up for themselves.
~Liars and cheaters, he's obsessed with honor.
~Spicy foods.
~Stereotypical chick flicks that make him cry. He hates how much they affect him.

Weaknesses:

~Anything sharp or pointy. His body can only absorb impacts over a larger surface area, meaning things with a point or a blade are effective at hurting him just like they are for a normal human.
~Elemental Energies. He is very susceptible to heat, cold, and acid. His body cannot withstand those multitudinous microscopic collisions any more readily than a normal human. While controlling and directing them away from his body would be doable, the amount of concentration required negates all combat efficacy.
~Blindness. Outside of his 4 foot radius sphere and a 20 foot radius on the same surface he's standing on, Krótos cannot "see" anything at all. He can still hear and smell, but those senses will only get him so far. This makes him incredibly susceptible to long range, non-corporeal, quiet attacks.

Fears:

~That all he is doing means nothing. That Jump City will remain a den of lawlessness and darkness, or worse yet, that what he's doing isn't the right way of doing things.
~Blood, or more specifically death. He is haunted by the memories of his family's screams.

Theme Song: "This is War" by Thirty Seconds to Mars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMAVLXk9QWA

A warning to the people
The good and the evil
This is war
To the soldier, the civillian
The martyr, the victim
This is war

It's the moment of truth and the moment to lie
The moment to live and the moment to die
The moment to fight, the moment to fight, to fight, to fight, to fight

To the right, to the left
We will fight to the death
To the Edge of the Earth
It's a brave new world from the last to the first

To the right, to the left
We will fight to the death
To the Edge of the Earth
It's a brave new world
It's a brave new world

A warning to the prophet, the liar, the honest
This is war
To the leader, the pariah, the victim, the messiah
This is war

It's the moment of truth and the moment to lie
The moment to live and the moment to die
The moment to fight, the moment to fight, to fight, to fight, to fight

To the right
To the left
We will fight to the death
To the edge of the earth
It's a brave new world
From the last to the first

To the right
To the left
We will fight to the death
To the edge of the earth
It's a brave new world
It's a brave new world
It's a brave new world

I do believe in the light
Raise your hands up to the sky
The fight is done
The war is won
Lift your hands
Towards the sun
Towards the sun
Towards the sun
Towards the sun
The war is won

It's the moment of truth and the moment to lie
The moment to live and the moment to die
The moment to fight, the moment to fight, to fight, to fight, to fight

To the right
To the left
We will fight to the death
To the edge of the earth
It's a brave new world
From the last to the first

To the right
To the left
We will fight to the death
To the edge of the earth
It's a brave new world
It's a brave new world
It's a brave new world

A brave new world
The war is won
The war is won
A brave new world

I believe in nothing
Not the end and not the start
I believe in nothing
Not the earth and not the stars
I believe in nothing
Not the day and not the dark
I believe in nothing
But the beating of our hearts
I believe in nothing
One hundred suns until we part
I believe in nothing
Not in satan, not in god
I believe in nothing
Not in peace and not in war
I believe in nothing
But the truth of who we are

Species: Human

Powers:

Impact Manipulation: Within a set distance around himself, exactly four feet from his center, Krótos can control and sense any of the three aspects of a collision. This means he can control three things about any collision as well as sense them as if he could see them. Therefore, within his sphere, Krótos can "see" like a regular human using the countless impacts of air molecules against the object he is "looking" at. Krótos can ignore the impacts of air against air as he's practiced doing so. Outside of that small range, Krótos can only sense impacts up to a distance of about 20 feet as long as they are touching the same surface he is. Outside of this extended range, Krótos is totally blind. This ability functions like Tremorsense, allowing him to detect vibrations in the ground and detect where they are coming from but he cannot "see" what's making them. He's gotten good enough at reading footsteps with some practice, however, most other impacts against the ground confuse him. He cannot tell what they are.

~First Aspect -- Direction: Within his sphere of control, Krótos can manipulate the direction any two things are moved as the result of a collision. This means he could hit a ball thrown at him and send it in any direction after the impact.

~Second Aspect -- Elasticity: Within his sphere, Krótos can manipulate just how much force is preserved and applied to an object. This means the same ball from the first example could be sent back at the person who threw it at a much slower pace but on fire due to the energy being released as heat. The same could be said of noise. Krótos could hit something and allow none of the energy to go through and simply create a massive noise. While Krótos has not perfected this ability, he can effect roughly 50% of the elasticity of a collision. It's mostly a timing thing. This is the reason his impact absorption can only absorb about 50% of an impact at his best and when he's concentrating.

~Third Aspect -- Force: Within his sphere, Krótos can manipulate the amount of force anything is applying to anything else. The same ball from the first example could be hit back at the person who threw it with more force than expected out of such a collision. Another example would be that Krótos could strike a ball and launch it at massive speeds simply by tapping it. This aspect of the ability is the one he has the most trouble with. As it is now, Krótos can only create as much force as his own body would physically be capable of applying to anything else.

Impact Absorbtion: Krótos has the ability to absorb a decent amount of any force he is effected by. This force is stored within his body and can be released to power up his movement and attacks at will. NOTE: This is NOT perfect damage reduction, he can only absorb so much force before his body starts to actually receive the force in a regular manner. As stated under the Second Aspect of his Impact Manipulation, which this ability stems from, Krótos can only currently absorb about 50% of any impact as long as he's concentrating. If Krótos is not concentrating at all, his body will only absorb about 25% of an impact unconsciously.

Enhanced Durability: His body is very hard to hurt with blunt force. It has to be in order to put up with the massive forces he experiences while fighting. This means that shearing, or cutting force, is the only thing that really hurts him when he's physically hit by it. Again, this ability stems from his control over the elasticity of an impact. If the impact is being applied over a much smaller area, like a point or a wedge, Krótos has a much harder time dispersing its force.

General Skills: Krótos benefits from peak human athleticism, master level martial arts, enhanced senses of hearing, touch, and smell due to his body's over compensation for his blindness. He is also a surprisingly good singer.

Arch Nemesis: As of now, the Titans. They are the Symbol of the City's corruption and lack of control. If he disposes of them the people will rise up and take control over their own city, instead of focusing on their own helplessness.

Family: None remaining. He had a family once, but it was lost to Jump City's darkness.

History: Ryan was born into a very happy family. His parents and siblings all loved each other very much and Ryan got plenty of attention and love from his parents. He went to a good school, he had lots of friends, he played on the soccer team. Everything was perfectly fine until his school was the target of a serial killer. On parent's day. The psycopath brazenly walked in, took over the whole school, and killed everyone there except Ryan, whose powers had awoken at the sight of his murdered friends and parents. His powers saved him from death, but couldn't save him from the gas explosion triggered by the Murderer's misfires into the school's pipes. The accident blinded him. When he woke up, he had no friends, no family, and no future whatsoever. He took up a job at a local dojo for Xingyiquan, a form of Shaolin Kung Fu. There he learned the necessary fighting skills to take on Jump City's weak infrastructure. He plans to subvert the city, destroy its weak police forces, smash the Teen Titans into nothingness, and force the City to stand up against him. That's the only way to make them strong.

Other: "...... Do I really have to? ... Fine. Titans, GO!"

Krótos sat on the very top of the old Titans Tower, though someone had moved in not too long ago, Krótos usually managed to keep himself unnoticed, silent and black against the night. Most of the systems in the tower were down for maintenance, though the Tower's tenant was slowly turning the systems back on. Krótos sighed, soon he wouldn't be able to come back anymore. He wasn't sure the Tower's tenant would like him to visit without their permission. Krótos felt a small twinge of disappointment. He actually really liked to come up there at night. He liked to imagine the way the light of the city might sparkle on the water in the bay. It was one of the few things he liked about the city that killed his family. Krótos smiled, the rare expression of happiness hidden by his mask. He felt his problems slip away as he gazed at the filthy city, seeing absolute nothingness. Something about it was enchanting, it made no sense. How could such a disgusting den of thievery, murder, and madness, how could such darkness produce such dazzling light? Krótos scowled and straightened up from his slouched sitting position. He stood, brushing himself off and scowling once more, his expression hidden by the mask. Quietly, he spoke to no one in particular, or so it seemed.

"It matters not anymore whether you are bright now, your darkness was revealed to me once. I will purge it. I will purge this corrupt city of both its law-keepers and law-breakers, only the innocent will survive. After that, they will have to grow strong." Slowly, Krótos took off his mask, allowing the city a rare glimpse of his scarred face, his blind, milky eyes staring into the distance. "Did you hear me?" Krótos asked, directing his voice at the camera behind him, he made sure he was turned away from it so his face would not be seen. "This is the last time I will visit your little tower as a neutral bystander. Now, I'm coming for you, little Titan. As a symbol of the City's corruption and dependence on useless heroes, you will be first." At that, Krótos put his mask back on, making sure it was on completely before turning around and walking over to the camera. Slowly, Krótos's masked face lowered down, level to the little camera. "Prepare yourself, little Titan. My name is Krótos. Remember it. For what little time you have left will be haunted by it." He said before pulling the camera off of its little stand, disconnecting it from the Tower's power supply before crushing it in his gloved hand and dropping the pieces. At that, Krótos stood fully and walked over to the edge of the tower, rubbing his hands together to remove any remnants of the camera from his gloves. He slowly looked over the edge, smirked beneath his mask, and let himself fall.

Krótos felt the air rushing past him, the pure exhilaration of speed flowing through his whole body. As he dropped, he drug his hand along the side of the tower, each impact filling his body with power. When the force he'd absorbed from building was sufficient he flipped in mid air, performing a double full twist before planting his feet on the side of Titan's tower and pushing off, using all of the force from his previous impacts to rocket himself into the air, over the bay and into the city. Since he'd allowed the glass behind him to achieve a perfectly singularly elastic collision with his feet, it appeared he hadn't even touched the building. He allowed the force being exerted on the glass to be dissipated perfectly, without any damage to the glass after his feet were finished pushing off. The leftover energy converting into a massive CRACK. It was so loud it sounded like a sonic boom. The glass held against the pressure of the noise, and by the time it reached Krótos, he was already halfway over the bay. The only trace he'd ever been there at all was the message he'd left to the Tower's tenant and the crushed camera.

Krótos smiled under his mask, despite the filth that raced below him, there was nothing like flying. As gravity eventually grasped him, Krótos flipped in the air, allowing his feet to touch the ground first. As he touched down, he dug his heels in, tearing up pavement and absorbing the force from his impact. While it wasn't his classiest landing, it filled him with crazy amounts of energy. Krótos felt his ankles and knees complain, but it didn't matter, he was already bent down close to the earth and in the process of launching once again. Just as he felt himself slowing, Krótos fired the muscles in his legs and blasted out of gravity's grip once more. Krótos flew through the air, throwing his hand out and catching a nearby horizontal flagpole, spinning around it and filling his arms with energy from the countless impacts derived from the rotation. He pushed off, rocketing once more into the air, flipping once before diving back down onto the pole and using the energy he absorbed from the impact to fuel his next jump. Using the pole like a springboard, Krótos rocketed over the city, not touching down until he managed to make it all the way over to his small apartment on the west side. Krótos clambered into the window of his room, only taking off his mask once he'd drawn the curtains behind him.

Krótos sighed, tiredly pulling off his suit and weapons. He folded them, and placed them down on the floor next to a box filled with small, explosive charges. Krótos's first target was a local Justice of the Peace. He was a known receiver of bribes, a scoundrel, and a prime example of the scum infesting the city. He had written accounts, eyewitness accounts, and a recording he'd secured himself after acting as a member of a local gang. Krótos had come to him, offering money as a reward for letting some filth back out into the streets. Krótos had caught him mugging a civilian not five hours later and returned him back into jail. This "House of Justice", was the first of Krótos's targets. It served two purposes, a lesson for the rot pervading the city, and bait for the Titan. Would they come to save a known corrupted Judge from his deserved fate? Or would they leave him to die? Either way, Krótos's message would be heard by all. He looked forward to it. As soon as he'd finished preparing his weapons, suit, and masks, Krótos went to sleep. He was tired, and would need his rest for his mission later this week.

Melanie felt a small smile fell crookedly across her lips.

What had she gotten herself into this time? Looking between the group it struck her that they would all make a rather strange team. A musical pirate, a frost troll, Livewire, a girl who'd passed out mid-battle (if she decided to stay and be a part of the group), and a girl super computer. And now they were going to try and fight crime together? It almost sounded like a bad joke! Or... like the New Teen Titans...

Struck by this thought she was shocked by the comparison. Could this rag-tag, nice-to-meet'cha group of strangers really be as great as the famous crime-fighting heroes?

'Well, even they had to start somewhere,' Melanie thought, her small smile growing until it because a happy grin. Besides, it was too late to go back on her offer (since they all seemed to agree). Clapping her hands together Melanie turned to face them. "Well, I guess if everything's settled," she proclaimed, gesturing that they come along, "then follow me."

~TIME SKIP~

It was late at night when the young Titans had arrived at what would be their new home.

Melanie had given them each their own room (except White who'd insisted on sleeping outside and not entering the "metal tree cave" as he'd called it). She, being damaged and low on battery, gave up trying to convince him otherwise and instead of giving him a room indoors told him that he could claim the garage as his "cave" and showed him the button that opened and closed the garage door. Additionally, she gave him a collar, telling him it was a gift for a king like himself that would let him understand his two-legged subjects. Gladly he accepted, and Melanie got to stop busting her voice box with his language.

The girl who'd passed out hadn't awoken yet and Melanie had been worried, putting her in a vacant room and checking her vitals to make sure she was only unconcience and not in a coma or anything (thankfully, she was still okay). Pulse and Livewire got seperate rooms and she told them they were free to look around the tower, but if a door was locked respectfully let it remain locked as she had installed defense systems for the tower and their interworking were in there. They agreed and she bid them goodnight before heading to her own room.

The moment the door shut her systems took over. Her chip was removed from Mel's damaged, robotic body and placed into the mainframe. Immedeately she projected herself and began to work, having Mel repaired and activating the security systems. But while she checked to make sure everything was running fine she stumbled across something... troubling.

It was some security footage.

There was a dark figure in it, wearing a mask, speaking to himself. "It matters not anymore whether you are bright now, your darkness was revealed to me once. I will purge it. I will purge this corrupt city of both its law-keepers and law-breakers, only the innocent will survive. After that, they will have to grow strong." He reatched up and removed his mask, but his back was to the camera and she could not see his face. "Did you hear me?" He asked, addressing the camera that had recorded this eery encounter. "This is the last time I will visit your little tower as a neutral bystander. Now, I'm coming for you, little Titan. As a symbol of the City's corruption and dependence on useless heroes, you will be first." Then the stranger turned, the mask on and again hiding his face, which he lowered to stare into the camera's lense. "Prepare yourself, little Titan. My name is Krótos. Remember it. For what little time you have left will be haunted by it." With that his hand came up and the video turned to static. Melanie felt an unusual shiver of fear run down her spine as she stared at the screen for a moment before turning it off.

Krótos. The made a note and began a new file, one she made a reminder to revisit. It wasn't often she got chills. But then again, it wasn't often she got a death threat from an unwelcome guest, either. But she wasn't alone anymore, and she wasn't the only Titan now either (if that's what they were to be called). As she went into hibernate mode her last thought was, for the first time in a long time, the happy thought of 'I'm not the only one anymore...'

Krótos's eyes snapped open. He hadn't set his alarm, but from the sound of things outside it was still early in the morning. Krótos got up and stretched. "Today's the day." He said to himself. After stretching, Krótos reviewed his plans while he made breakfast. It was simple really. After Justice Ramirez adjourned court, for which he was signed up to be the bailiff, Krótos would knock him out, hold him hostage in the very room he served his perverted justice, and hold him for ransom along with the rest of the building. During the week, before his scheme was scheduled to take place, Krótos had visited the courthouse, placing small, powerful charges all along the main thoroughfare underneath the building. Each was wirelessly hooked up to a switch he had assembled using a walkie talkie and some spare parts. He'd bought all of his supplies from separate stores under separate names all with cash. It would eliminate any trace of him being there whatsoever. After the Judge was tied to his chair, Krótos would broadcast the hostage situation live, hoping to garner the attention of the Titan who lived in the old tower. It had been relatively quiet since he'd last visited. There appeared to be nothing out of the ordinary happening. Good. In a one vs. one situation, Krótos was more than confident in his abilities. Finally, he'd arranged with a local news anchor that if he turned the station's attention to channel 51 at exactly 3:15 in the afternoon, he would have the scoop of a lifetime. Krótos knew there would be some risk, the Judge's personal guards were stationed all over that place, they would be more than willing to cooperate with the city's weak police should their boss's life be in danger, still they were just regular people after all. Krótos could handle them easily. Krótos nodded to himself, his plan was perfect. No loopholes, no real threats. After he was done killing the Judge, he would dispatch the Titan. It would be simple, easy really. Once the city had seen who he was and what he was capable of, they would be forced to muster up and become strong. If not, he would destroy the whole thing. He would just burn the place to the ground, fence them all in, and watch Jump City eat itself alive. Krótos nodded with grim satisfaction.

After he had triple checked all of his equipment, Krótos suited up. He pulled on his plated jumpsuit and his utility belt. Next he laced up his shoes and tied them tight. He placed every ounce of equipment he might need at a moment's notice on his belt and the rest went into an unmarked messenger bag. He made sure he had his detonator, all his weapons, some spares just in case, and a few new toys. A titanium wire net of his own design, some smoke bombs, duct tape, some rope, a few freezing bombs, and some new knives that he could add to his scythe for added efficiency. The wire was rated against a semi in full reverse. It held for three hours before breaking. Krótos figured it would be strong enough to contain the thrashing of a fully grown Bull African Elephant for just as long. The freezing bomb's first prototype had flash frozen a small pond of about twenty gallons of water in exactly .6533 of a second and didn't thaw until the next day. Unfortunately, Krótos only had three, the first prototype had been sacrificed for science though Krótos knew it would work flawlessly. Krótos smiled, still, it had been better to check anyway. After checking for the fourth time, Krótos pulled on his mask and his tear away bailiff suit. At that, Krótos left his apartment and locked the door behind him, not knowing that today would change his life forever.

After travelling unmolested to the courthouse, despite his mask, Krótos sat through the proceeds in complete and utter boredom. His only use was to escort the Justice to his next hearing as well as escort the defendant to and from the vehicle he arrived in. Krótos sighed, he knew anyway that the filth being prosecuted would get off anyway, the judge had been bribed by the thug's peers, he'd get off with a warning and some community service, hardly a just punishment for armed robbery and three counts of manslaughter. Finally, after it was done, the defendant got away, as Krótos had predicted. Krótos fought every urge in his body to not kill the scum as he escorted him back to the safety of his armored transport. Krótos smiled under his mask as he shoved the rat into his vehicle, waving as he drove away. Krótos had bigger fish to fry.

As soon as Krótos got back to the courtroom, he walked straight up to the judge, planning on doing something... fun. Luckily, there were no pulsations of footfalls within the room, Krótos would get away with this scott free. The judge made some conversation at him, which Krótos deftly ignored, stepping straight up to the heinous fiend and smashing his fist into his face as hard as he could, knocking him to the ground and sending him flying a good three feet. "What the hell?" The man exclaimed through a broken nose and a fat lip, Krótos heard the pitter patter of blood spraying out of his mouth as he spoke. "Unless you didn't know, you piece of shit, I'm a Justice of the Peace, assaulting me is like asking to go to jail!" The corpulent fungus proclaimed. "Luckily for me," Krótos said, his voice heavy with dark undertones. "I'm not here for a Justice of the Peace. I'm here for garbage. After all, the city's refuse needs to be managed." With that, Krótos ripped off his disguise and replaced it with his regular black trench coat. "I am Krótos, and I'm here to cause a real... bang." Krótos said, reaching into his bag and pulling out his duct tape. After the Judge had been properly detained in his own throne of lies, Krótos got to work. He barred all the doors, pulled the fire alarm, and set up his camera and transmitter. After a few moments of tense waiting, it was finally 3:15 in the afternoon. "Showtime" Krótos said, tilting his head slightly to the left and pulling out both his detonator and his newest kukiri. It was long, sharp, and as black as obsidian.

~~~
At exactly 3:17 pm, the news flashed onto everyone's televisions, even when some of them weren't on. This type of thing was done only in emergencies, and well... now was the time to use it. The local news's theme played and the regular anchor panned into view. "Hello I'm Clark Adams, we interrupted your regularly scheduled programming to bring you this breaking news. We go now to Larry Jenkins in the field, live at the Jump City Courthouse where a hostage situation is taking place. Larry."
"Thank you Clark. What started today, like any other day at the courthouse, was the sound of local Judge Ramirez banging his gavel in support of the crime conversion program. What some might call violent criminals, Ramirez calls tender souls. Ramirez has always been an advocate of innocence, saying that if you don't fix the situation that creates these criminals, you're not actually fixing the problem. Ramirez's leniency has been the topic of local debate for years due to it's patchy results and otherwise unsettling verdicts. It appears one such criminal, or hero as he calls himself, has decided to, as he describes it, 'punish the corrupt.' He is broadcasting live material of what is going on inside the heavily barricaded courtroom, and before we switch over to it, I must warn you, the content is shocking."
At that, the view switches to a dark courthouse. The lights are all turned off, the only real sources of light are the semi-drawn shades, creating a feeling of darkness and general eeriness. Suddenly there is a sound of grunting, followed by a heavy thud, and finally, a voice, clear as a bell. "Ahh... It appears I'm live. Welcome, Jump City, to my courtroom. As you can see, court is now in session." The lights flick on and camera is focused on a heavily beaten Judge Ramirez. "I see you've found our defendant today." The same voice says, its owner unseen by the camera which bobs slightly, as if it's being held. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Krótos." With that, the camera appears to be set down and Krótos steps into the picture. "Hello Jump City, so glad you could join me." Krótos says slyly. "We are here today for the case of the people vs. Judge Ramirez. How does the defendant plead?" Krótos asks, turning to the judge, sitting in his own chair, but very clearly tied up, and gagged with duct tape. He grunts a few times before Krótos interrupts him. "Guilty? A wise decision. Then let us review the evidence." At that, Krótos strolls nonchalantly over to his bag, reaches inside and pulls out a multitude of papers which he throws into the air, allowing them to settle where they may. "I have here." Krótos states, regally walking about the room. "A river of pleas, requests, and general approvals of my action against you. That is, accounts of your cruelty, corruption, and general filth. This choir of innocent voices wishes for me to destroy you Mister Ramirez, how does that make you feel." Again, Ramirez makes to shout, but his cries are muffled by the gag. "ENOUGH!" Krótos roars at the man in an entirely different tone of voice, one filled with anger. He deftly jumps all the way up to the Judge's podium before back handing the slime across his face, silencing him immediately. "Shush now, little one, the adults are talking. These papers are all filled with eyewitness accounts of you accepting bribes, both of currency and the flesh. Accounts of you overriding a jury's findings due to inconclusiveness are also rampant. Finally, there are even accounts of abuse and assault against minors who come to you pleading for their parents. You, my dear Piece of trash, are the lowest scum in this city and it will be my personal honor to watch the life leave your eyes." Once more Krótos smashes his fist into the face and gut of the man in the chair, knocking him unconscious. He jumps down from the podium and walks over to the camera, picking it up and holding it in front of his face, allowing the viewers a perfect shot of Krótos mask, his long hair tied up in a ponytail behind his head, falling all the way down to his shoulders. "I now turn my attention directly to you, little inhabitant of the old Titan's Tower. I know you are in there, and I want you to come here, personally. If anyone other than the Titan arrives at my door, I will kill this piece of shit and destroy the entire building. Krótos waved his detonator in front of the camera for added effect. "The clock is ticking little Titan. Unless you get here within twenty minutes, before four o'clock, I will kill the man, destroy this corrupted house of justice, and leave, striking again as often as I feel necessary. My name is Krótos, remember me now? At my hands, this city will come Crashing to its knees. Ta-ta little one." At that, Krótos turned the camera off and jumped up onto the podium, sitting with his legs crossed, waiting for the Titan to show up, not expecting the chaos of the situation that will unfold shortly.
The Night Watcher was sitting in his study relaxing when his security systems started going off like crazy. He ran to the security rooms and checked the monitors. They had picked up a broadcast from the courthouse. He presses a few buttons on one of they keyboards and a picture came up on the largest monitor. -- The lights are all turned off, the only real sources of light are the semi-drawn shades, creating a feeling of darkness and general eeriness. Suddenly there is a sound of grunting, followed by a heavy thud, and finally, a voice, clear as a bell. "Ahh... It appears I'm live. Welcome, Jump City, to my courtroom. As you can see, court is now in session." The lights flick on and camera is focused on a heavily beaten Judge Ramirez. "I see you've found our defendant today." The same voice says, its owner unseen by the camera which bobs slightly, as if it's being held. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Krótos." With that, the camera appears to be set down and Krótos steps into the picture. "Hello Jump City, so glad you could join me." Krótos says slyly. "We are here today for the case of the people vs. Judge Ramirez. How does the defendant plead?" -- As the video continues to play The Night Watcher starts to type on one of his other keyboards and begins searching for this Krótos. He checks every database he has access to and finds nothing. He thinks for a minute realizing that the only database he hasn't checked yet is Titan Tower. He knows it is going to be hard so he turns back to the broadcast retrieving information the old fashioned way. -- Ramirez makes to shout, but his cries are muffled by the gag. "ENOUGH!" Krótos roars at the man in an entirely different tone of voice, one filled with anger. He deftly jumps all the way up to the Judge's podium before back handing the slime across his face, silencing him immediately. "Shush now, little one, the adults are talking. "So he has a flair for the theatrics and he's interested in the Tower as well, now I can be almost certain that there is information in the tower. It might be easier to hack if I wait until the tower is vacant." He says to himself. He begins to type away at the keyboards again, setting up his systems to search and retrieve any file or folder that mentions the word Krótos from Titan Tower, the program will activate at his command. And at that he leaves the Observatory and begins moving through the city on rooftops. He approaches the Courthouse but stays back a bit, the ground is covered in police officers outside the building. I suppose I'll wait here to watch the show. He sits low to the roof appearing to anyone below as nothing but a slight shadow as he watches the events unfold.
“Hey, you guys see this? Party at the courtyardand we’re invited!” Melanie heard Pulse yell, a small note of urgency in his normally smooth voice. She hurried into the room just as the news came on, and what she saw she was horrified by.
Krótos.
Melanie knew from the moment he started talking.
"Ahh... It appears I'm live." he said coolly, "Welcome, Jump City, to my courtroom. As you can see, court is now in session." The lights flick on and camera is focused on a heavily beaten Judge Ramirez whom Melanie recognized from newspaper articles. He spoke alot about fixing the crime infestation by fixing what caused it in the first place, but she herself had seen very litle effort. In fact, quite the opposite, but still... "I see you've found our defendant today." Though she could not see him, she knew all too well who was behind the held camera. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Krótos." The camera was set down and Melanie watched in revulsion has the familiar mask came into view.
"Hello Jump City, so glad you could join me. We are here today for the case of the people vs. Judge Ramirez. How does the defendant plead?" Krótos asked mockingly, turning to the judge, bound and gagged to a chair in the background. He grunts a few times before Krótos interrupts him. "Guilty? A wise decision. Then let us review the evidence." At that, Krótos walked over to his bag and pulled out a multitude of papers which he then tosses carelessly into the air, motionless as they flutter down all around him to settle on the floor. "I have here; a river of pleas, requests, and general approvals of my action against you. That is, accounts of your cruelty, corruption, and general filth. This choir of innocent voices wishes for me to destroy you Mister Ramirez; how does that make you feel?" Krótos asked, taunting the man who then tries desterately to defend himself but cannot speak past the gag.
"ENOUGH!" Krótos roars, suddenly infuriated, lunging at the frantically struggling man and slapping him in the face hard enough that red marks are already appearing and he goes silent. "Shush now, little one, the adults are talking. These papers are all filled with eyewitness accounts of you accepting bribes, both of currency and the flesh. Accounts of you overriding a jury's findings due to inconclusiveness are also rampant. Finally, there are even accounts of abuse and assault against minors who come to you pleading for their parents." Krótos spoke so matter-of-factly that it might have seemed hard to tell who was the judge on the screen.
"You, my dear Piece of trash, are the lowest scum in this city and it will be my personal honor to watch the life leave your eyes." Once more Krótos smashes his fist into the face and gut of the man in the chair who slumps over, knocked out. Sadisfied, Krótos walks over to the camera, picking it up and holding it in front of his face, the face Melanie had already burned into her hardrive. "I now turn my attention directly to you, little inhabitant of the old Titan's Tower. I know you are in there, and I want you to come here, personally. If anyone other than the Titan arrives at my door, I will kill this piece of shit and destroy the entire building." Krótos waved what seemed to be a detonator in front of the camera mockingly.
"The clock is ticking little Titan. Unless you get here within twenty minutes, before four o'clock, I will kill the man, destroy this corrupted house of justice, and leave, striking again as often as I feel necessary." Though she couldn't see his face, Melanie could almost hear the sneer in his voice. "My name is Krótos. Remember me now? At my hands, this city will come crashing to its knees. Ta-ta little one."
Melanie's finger twitched slightly and the news shut off abruptly as if someone had reatched out and turned the TV off. Melanie was ridged and she looked warily at each of her little team members who also stood in the room, obviously each one of them aware of the gravity this messege held.
"Krótos." Melanie said finally, breaking the silence. "I guess you all know what we have to do. He's visited our home before, and threated us similarly, but this... this is more than I had anticipated." She sighed slightly, a small huff that reveiled a note of panic. "See for yourselves. You might as well, since now he's a threat to not only us but also Jump City." Walking over to the TV she fiddled with it for a moment before the security footage from two nights ago came on.
The dark masked figure they all now knew as Krótos was still speaking to himself. "It matters not anymore whether you are bright now, your darkness was revealed to me once. I will purge it. I will purge this corrupt city of both its law-keepers and law-breakers, only the innocent will survive. After that, they will have to grow strong." He reatched up and removed his mask, but his back was to the camera and she could not see his face. "Did you hear me?" He asked, addressing the camera aimed at him. "This is the last time I will visit your little tower as a neutral bystander. Now, I'm coming for you, little Titan. As a symbol of the City's corruption and dependence on useless heroes, you will be first." Then he turned, the mask on and again hiding his face, which he lowered to stare into the camera's lense, a challenge in his voice. "Prepare yourself, little Titan. My name is Krótos. Remember it. For what little time you have left will be haunted by it." With that his hand came up and the video turned to static. Melanie quickly shut it off (this time with an actually remote so as not to raise suspition).
"So it sounds like he sort of has the right idea, you know, to help the city and all that, which I suppose is something he's got going for him. But he's going about bringing justice as if he too were a criminal. We can't let him go around killing people, even if it's for the greater good, but since we don't exactly abide by those particular standereds, he's decided we've got to go too." Melanie said, standing infront of her team, "But by the sound of the video though, he doesn't know about any of you yet. So we can take him by surprise. We'll show up and I'll confront him, then I'll call you all in when the fight starts getting out of hand." Glancing at the clock on the wall she witheld a small gasp.
3:29
"We need to hurry if we're going to make it there in time! Get what ever you need but make it fast! Also, someone needs to check on Aurora and let her know what's going on so she can decide if she wants to come along." Then, feeling a strange compulsion, she added with urgency, "Titans- GO!"
Pulse was lying on Livewires floor, rolling around in pain on top of a ceiling panel.
Earlier, he had woken up by, like now, falling off of something. In this case his hammock. After getting back up, he gave himself a good scratch, ate an orange from a mysterious canvas bag, and checked the positioning of The Ultistars Satellite Bay on a computer system he had salvaged from his drop pod. It would be available in about an hour, and if the boosters activated, it could either rush, or stick around for half an hour. Orbits and trajectory were so precise sometimes.
Below him, he heard a T.V. turn on, probably Livewire, but Pulse couldn't be too sure about that. He lifted a cold, hard, steel floor plate off of it's frame, revealing a web of wiring. Carefully, he weaved them apart, finding a ceiling panel. After failing to get it off by grabbing it, he resorted to pushing it down. After that didn't work, he decided that he was going to jump on it. The moment he stood on it, it collapsed beneath him, dropping him into Livewires room.
"ARGGGGGHHHHHHH" he rolled around on the plate screaming like a child, curling up into a ball. Something on the T.V. that he could see through the fury though was confusing. There was a man with a mask threatening somebody else. It seemed that the man he was holding hostage was corrupt or some nonsense, but it looked like he was going to kill him. Not cleanly either. Barbarian.
Melanie's voice was heard as he started to get up again. "So it sounds like he sort of has the right idea, you know, to help the city and all that, which I suppose is something he's got going for him. But he's going about bringing justice as if he too were a criminal. We can't let him go around killing people, even if it's for the greater good, but since we don't exactly abide by those particular standards, he's decided we've got to go too, but by the sound of the video though, he doesn't know about any of you yet. So we can take him by surprise. We'll show up and I'll confront him, then I'll call you all in when the fight starts getting out of hand. We need to hurry if we're going to make it there in time! Get whatever you need but make it fast! Also, someone needs to check on Aurora and let her know what's going on so she can decide if she wants to come along."
This was serious, Somebody could die, somebody could be saved, he could go wake up Aurora...
Somebody is going to die here plug-freak
He could go be a team player... and show off the Ultistar...
Yes. He was going to do this, the moment just needed a little something, a catchphrase to set them off.
"Titans- GO!"
Oh yeah, that was it. He bolted, jumping up through the ceiling, climbing into his room. Strange, as he shouldn't be able to do that on a bad day.
"This must be one hell of a good day then." He grabbed his suit, the pads to protect his plugs easily removable in the need be situation of Mech entry. He summoned the didgeridoos with his technological wizardry embedded inside of him. Next, he burst through his door, and ran over to Aurora's room, flinging the door open to see her... crying. He immediately, closed it, pulling back on the handle just before it slammed so it wouldn't make a noise. Maybe he could talk to her though.
"Err, Aura, there's a job that needs, err doing." He could hear his accent slipping away, which was weird, as that didn't usually happen. "I don't think we can do it without you and you're crazy-ass fire powers."
Melanie nodded towards the ones who stood around her.
"Get your things and get going. Your comminicators will show you where to go. Follow it and wait around the courthouse. Stay out of sight if you can." With those short instructions she turned on her heel and walked out of the room, the doors sliding closed behind her.
The moment the doors closed her hollographic image vanished.
Melanie appeared again in her room. They still weren't suspitious, which was good. She'd accidently shut the TV off earlier, but fortunatly no one had asked about that. And they hadn't asked about the weird shift in her eye color either, so she took that as a good sign. Still she would have to be careful. One slip up and the jig would be up, her secret out.
Making a metal note of cation she walked to Mel who stood, repaired, against the wall. She been damaged the night before but it had been mild and Melanie had been able to fix the problems fairly easily. Reaching out she activated the robot and vanished into the vessel. After a moment of callibration she streched and blinked, previously blue eyes now gold again. Then she rushed out of her door and to the roof.
3:52
Tensing up she launched from the launching platform and flew into the air. She had very little time. Quickly she found the shortest route to the courthouse and set off at full speed. Soaring through the air she could see the panicked audience below, most of their eyes glued to the screen which was reporting the events as they unfolded. A few eyes turned to the sky and pointed to her, but she could not hear what they cried out as she passed by overhead.
Oddly the crowds had not swarmed around the building and their wasn't a soul to be seen when she arrived at 3:58. Walking up to the doors she pushed them open with ease and stepped into the building. They creaked closed eerily behind her as she continued down the dark hallway and up to the courtroom doors. Taking a deep breath she said softly into her communicator, "Titans, if you're here yet, be on guard. This Krótos guy is bad news. I will call you in if things start to go wrong."
3:59
The doors went flying open and slammed against the walls with a loud BAM.
"Krótos!" Melanie called sternly, seeing the masked man approaching the the bloodied judge with a knife in his hand, obviously about to keep his promise to the people. "You threatened that I would be the first person you purged in your cleasing of this city. Well here I am, the symbol of the City's corruption and dependence on useless heroes." She could almost hear the audiences on the other side of the camera cheering, but remained focused on Krótos, getting in a position to fight. "Now face me and we'll see how useless of a hero I really am."
Time creeped by. The windows let in warm light filling the air with a hazy tiredness. Time ticked by ever so slowly, almost mockingly. It was almost time. "Welp," Krótos said, turning to the bloodied judge, his life having leaked down from his nose and mouth and the cut above his eye Krótos gave him by slamming his face into the table. "Time's up Ramirez. Looks like the Titans know you're not worth saving. May you rest in pieces." Krótos took out his first hunting knife, holding it in one hand. He placed his hand down to his belt, hand gripping the pommel of his kukiri when-
3:59 p.m.
The doors went flying open and slammed against the walls with a loud BAM. "Krótos!" A voice called sternly from behind him. "You threatened that I would be the first person you purged in your cleansing of this city. Well here I am, the symbol of the City's corruption and dependence on useless heroes." Slowly, Krótos turned, knife in hand, his head tilted slightly to the side. "She's here!" The thought echoed through his mind. A manic glee swept over his whole body and a smile formed under his mask. "Now face me and we'll see how useless of a hero I really am." Krótos pulled the kukiri and second knife from his belt. "Well, you're here. You've even remembered my little greeting, how nice. You do seem to be a very proper girl after all." Krótos said, her higher pitched vocal patterns indicative of a woman in her teens. "So very nice of you to join us as per our request. We were just about to begin." Krótos pulled his staff from his belt as well, holding the knives and kukiri carefully in his offhand. The staff snapped to its full length, the second it was fully extended, Krótos snapped his kukiri into its proper place, the knives following shortly thereafter, the wicked blade of his scythe glinting in the low light. His movements were confident, meticulous. There was no point in getting so riled up, he was in control and he knew it. He walked towards her calmly, carefully. "You know what this man is, right? Do you know what he's done?" Krótos asked. Slowly, he stooped down, picking up a large clump of the papers from earlier, his scythe gripped tightly in his right hand. "Accepting bribes, adultery, abuse, and assault; perhaps you need a reminder."
At that Krótos threw the papers as hard as he could in the direction of the Titan's voice. It wasn't about hitting her with them, it was about impairing her vision, getting her to make sloppy movements. Krótos pushed the papers as they left his hand, forcing them to jump out right in front of the place the voice and footsteps were coming from before catching the air and snapping out to form a quasi-blockade between her eyes and his body. Hidden behind the wall of papers, Krótos charged, the razor edge of his scythe at the ready, his quiet footsteps hidden behind the fluttering of the papers. As he charged, he brought the scythe around his body, ready to swing it across her body lengthwise to bisect the little Titan.
The Night Watcher sat on his building watching the courthouse, he looked intently at the police officers outside the courthouse who were walking around and appeared to be talking nervously. They had no idea how to handle this situation, usually they would simply ignore a criminal until after his crime and then take the bribe, but this Krótos was different, he seemed to despise these actions. The police were completely clueless in a situation where they would need to actually do their job. The Night Watcher checked his watch and it read 3:56. He smiled as he thought to himself They are only proving my beliefs, they have no clue about how to fix this city and keep it safe, only proving that, that particular task falls solely on me. his thoughts were cut short when he noticed a small figure entering the building, well this is interesting he thinks to himself, his interest peaked. He then recognized her as the one who has been residing in the tower, Ah now is my time to strike he pulls out his PDA, which he has disconnected from the standard systems and is connected only to his security system back in the observatory, he uses it to access his mainframe. He executes the program he created earlier and his system begins hacking into Titan Tower searching for information on Krótos. After activating the program he accesses the local news networks to see if there is any information that he could not gather. Clark Adams, a well known local newscaster, who The Night Watcher knew was on a the payroll of the very judge who was being held hostage, which is why just how corrupt this judge is was a surprise to the public. Mr. Adams begins speaking "As promised we are giving you the most up to date information the hostage situation at the courthouse. At 3:59 a young girl was seen entering the building we assume she is the person that Krótos, the terrorist within, was requesting show up. The police refused to comment on whether or not they approve of the girl's presence, but they did nothing to stop her. Her identity at this time is unknown. The police however did respond that they are doing everything they can to end this situation without the loss of life." The Night Watcher chuckled as he heard this line, the police were doing nothing to stop the situation and he knew it. The newscaster's voice picked up again, "We have just received breaking news, there has been some kind of disturbance in the courtroom, but we are unable to ascertain what is going on, but it would appear that Krótos has received the visitor he was expecting. We will follow up with more information as we receive it. This is Clark Adams signing off." The Night Watcher glanced at the time on the PDA as he switched it off in response to Clark Adams finishing his report, it read 4:05. Nothing new here he thought as he turned his attention back to the courthouse, where just as the news report informed there seemed to be a lot of activity in the courtroom, although also as it said he was unable to see anything. This Krótos guy wants to kill the judge, and is clearly trying to make a statement, so why doesn't he just blow the fucker up already? This is going to be so much more interesting than I thought, I can't wait to see how this plays out he thinks to himself as he watches the police respond to the commotion.
Abbadon walked into the room with Alice. He then walks to a control panel and presses a button. The button was bright red and by Abbadon's finger, it glowed. The statis chamber then opens as Alice falls on the dry ground covered in water. He then starts pacing around Alice's body on the ground. "Hello, Alice, I am your master, Abbadon. You may be confused, I might be able to summarize what is going on. You are Alice, there are these heroes named "The Teen Titans". But, they hated you. They looked down on you, thought you where not a hero. So, they left you to DIE and rot in garbage. But...I saved the little weakling of you". He picked up Alice's face by her chin with his fingers. "So, you where going to die because of these 'heroes' and I saved you. I made you stronger in that chamber, healed you. But now, you owe a little favor to me..." he says as a computer screen comes forth from the ceiling. It shows the actions of Krotos keeping the judge hostage. "See that man, I want YOU to take him to me. He seems useful, might give you the revenge you need on those heroes. Did i mention, they are there too? Maybe give them a little come back..." says Abbadon. He then smiles under his cloak and walks towards the exit of this room. "Meet me at my throne for more information, but for now, get geared up" says Abbadon as he finally exits and sits on his throne. Another room then opens in this chamber room, a room with many clothes and gear for a villain.
Aura was still a bit confused. Alright, Aurora, piece what you know together. Corrupt judge. Killer ‘hero’. Threats. Death. Blah blah blah… the ususal. Aura’s eyebrow’s creased together as she frowned. Just because that man is corrupt doesn’t mean he should die. No one should die. Aura shook her head in an attempt to clear it. She rubbed her temple. This was so overwhelming. She had been asleep ten minutes earlier. A sudden sound rang in her ears as she dashed to a window. She saw Melanie, who’s name she had overheard, blast off the roof. “Well, that escalated quickly.” Aura muttered to herself. Looking down at the water, she wondered how she was going to get to the city. She sure as hell wasn’t going to let someone carry her. Aura could take care of herself.
Aura blinked for a moment, then brought her gaze back down to the water again. Water… Water… Water! She facepalmed for not realizing earlier that she was in Titan Tower. She whipped her head back, looking at the boys, then spoke. “See ya fellas. I’ve got my own way of getting there.” Aura pulled open the window, and hopped up, placing her feet on the windowsill. She leaned forwards, and then pushed off with a blast of air to propel her. She clamped her mouth shut as she dove into the water. Her temperature had adjusted quickly to the water, taking away most of the shock. The water funneled around Aura’s body, and rocketed her forwards. Every once in a while, Aura would launch herself out of the water, very similar to what a dolphin would do. She would refill her lungs with air, then dive back in, and the water would continue to push her forwards. Water was Aura’s best element, and it barely took away any energy.
Once Aura reached the city’s coast, she soared out of the water, and landed on her feet, but stumbled a bit. “WHOA WHAT A RUSH!” She cried happily, raising her hands in the air. She then shook herself like a dog to remove most of the water. Then, she pulled the rest of the water off of her using her powers. Aura knew where the courthouse was. It was very close to the bank. Aura dashed forwards, zooming past other people. She looked like blur. The air helped push her, increasing her strides and the power of her steps. In only a few minutes, she made it to the hostile area. Circling around, she found a window, which she plopped her face right in front of. It was slightly ajar, but that didn’t really matter. Krotos looked very strong, but her was wearing a mask. I wonder how he sees with that thing on… maybe he doesn’t need to see? Aura wondered.
The two were about to fight. Aura knew it was not her turn. But what made her angry was when she saw Krotos was about to throw the papers at Melanie. When the papers flew through the air, she let Krotos think that his little plan had worked. She then took a deep inhale, then blew as hard as she could. A large gust had blown the papers away from them both, and fluttered down to a stop on the other side of the room before they could block Melanie's vision. Aura couldn’t help but snicker a bit.
Melanie's eyed hardened as Krótos turned to face her. "Well, you're here. You've even remembered my little greeting, how nice. You do seem to be a very proper girl after all." Krótos said, obviously pleased. Melanie said nothing as he went on, mockingly. "So very nice of you to join us as per our request. We were just about to begin."
Krótos pulled a staff from his belt, still holding the knives and kukiri carefully in his offhand. Melanie made note of these weapons and was carefully watching for any indication of him using these weapons as the staff snapped to its full length, followed imedeately after by his kukiri, then lastly the knives. The blade of his scythe glinted, though as Melanie scanned it she could see the blade was not sharp enough to severe metal in one blow, though human flesh was another matter entirely.
His movements were confident, meticulous as if he knew absolutely everything was going to go his way and there was absolutely nothing she could do to surprise him. He walked towards her calmly, carefully while Melanie stood her ground. Though on the outside she feinted nervousness, computers could not get nervous, only catious.
"You know what this man is, right? Do you know what he's done?" Krótos asked slowly as if she were metally deficient. Slowly he bend down and picked up the papers he had as evidence against the judge. "Accepting bribes, adultery, abuse, and assault; perhaps you need a reminder." Suddenly he threw the papers in the air around her. The good thing about being a supercomputer though was, as they fluttered to form a paper thin wall (if you'll excuse the pun) in front of him, she scanned each docment and stored the information, verifying it while her present mind focused on Krótos. He charged, his outline visable through said paper thin wall as he brought the scythe around his body, ready to swing it lengthwise and cut her in half.
Melanie was ready. She too leapt foreward, but sprung instead upwards and effectively jumped over the scythe as it swung but missed it's target. She landed delicately behind him, turning to face him and inevertly placing herself between him and the judge who was begining to gain consciousness again. "Yes, I do know what he is and I am fully aware of what he has done." Melanie replied calmly, looking directly into the sockets of Krótos' mask, "His name is Mark Ramirez, know to the common as Judge Ramirez and known to the common criminal as a man easily swayed by a large sum of money or the promise of a pretty face."
Melanie gestured to Judge Ramirez who was now fully awake, though still looked very confused. "He's a dishonest man who has commited the same crimes as those he judges without having to face the sentences he decrees because he's a criminal with that sort of power. Power over another's life." Suddenly she became very serious. "Just. Like. You." Moving in a blur she ducked down and aimed a round house kick at Krótos' ankles, seeking to make him stumble. 'I want a DNA sample,' Melanie thought as a strong and sudden wind blew the paper wall away and across the room, revieling Krótos fully, 'I want to know who or what this guy is.'
"You see it don't you? You're playing judge. You're unsadisfied and have decided to give him the death setence because of that. Sure you have your excuses and your neat little papers, but the real reason behind your decree is because getting to decide the outcome human life makes you feel powerful and that's your greatest desire Krótos. That's your ultiment goal." She spoke harshly as he was forced down and she grabbed a hold of a fist full of his hair, scanning it for any matches. "Isn't that right... Ryan O'Connell?"
With that she let go and jumped back, speaking into her communicator, "Titans- to my side!" Shouting so the audience on the other side of the camera could hear she said, "But where is the jury, Judge O'Connell? You claim the people want to rise up against this man; let them! Or are you going to follow the footsteps of the very man you seek to convict and overrule them when you know they will support the justice you claim to uphold?" Falling into a fighting stance a slender katana emerged from her large stash of weapons within Mel's robot body. "Because if you will not deliever justice, they will. If they will not, I will. And if ever I cannot, then others will rise up and take my place as heroes and defenders of Jump City."
At that moment her communicator beeped the locations of her teammates just as each one burst into the room. She could feel her heart swelling with pride in her friends and their perfect timing. It was five to one, and in the back of her mind Melanie filed away a recording of her vailent speach, making a note to watch a recording of the news and see if the camera had caught all of it.
Meanwhile, back at the tower, her systems had encountered a hacker. Hacking was something Melanie specialized in because she knew the ins and outs of computers and the web like no other human could claim to. Being hacked into was an entirely different matter though. Immedeately her systems attacked the program which was searching for anything it could find relating to Krótos as it turned out. Melanie was alerted of the situation, but being focused in another matter she told it to go by defalt. Following programing, an electric scrambler was sent out to the offending electronic, disabling it. It had no information, not being connected to a mainframe and instead used indepently, which was disappointing but not crippling. The PDA released a small spark followed by a puff of smoke before going dead. When (and if) it was restored, the messege "Try that again and all electronics within a five meter radius will have the same result" would be the only information it had collected.
Sprouse had remained hidden inside of the courthouse itself, entering as this confused vigilante was focused upon Mel. He hadn't entered through the front doors alongside her, so doing this wasn't too difficult a task to begin with. He had been hanging out on the ceiling of the courthouse, holding onto the shafts among it for grip. His constant hopping around town and workouts had made sure that doing this for an extended time didn't take too much effort on his part, and he was thusly good until called upon.
Which had better be soon, because Sprouse wasn't one to wait forever. Waiting was boring.
A few moments had almost forced him to come down prematurely, but Mel proved to be able enough to keep herself from dying just yet - a trait that was great. Their little scuffle was, to say, entertaining to watch for a bystander such as himself. It made things more interesting to see if she would avoid any fatal attacks until she called upon him and the rest of their jolly ol gang. That same gang he had met only last night. Come to think of it, didn't he say he wasn't going to be a hero? So then why was he even doing this? Such thoughts suddenly flooded his mind like a running river, only to be dismissed with a simple thought.
Who cares? It's fun.
When he started paying attention to what the two were saying, he heard the word 'titans' and knew what that meant. "I ought to go down then...." he sighed, stretched, then let go of the shaft and fell straight towards the ground which was a decent fall away. Enough to break someone's legs at the very least. Of course, he didn't lose his legs when he touched the ground, for he broke his fall as he static stepped at a good timing, allowing himself to hit the ground with much less impact than he would have. For added awesome effect, he landed with one clenched fist into the ground and an aura of sparks was made visible around him for all of two seconds before they disappeared.
He began standing and looked towards Mel. "You know, you take a while. I was beginning to get bored of waiting." he commented, then looked towards their foe. "Lets hurry up and show this dude what these 'useless heroes' can do, shall we? I wanna get back in time to watch something."
Left alone with White was not Pulse's idea, it was merely a matter of circumstance.
"Well, since it's just us left, we might as well go crash this little jig." He grabbed White's wrist, and blasted off into the direction of the courthouse. As they were above it, he dropped the Ogre, watching him smash through the roof, and subsequently, the ceiling. The ordeal revealed what was going on inside. He stopped his breathing, and plummeted as well into the room of strewn papers and feared, and unless otherwise stated, corrupt judge.
Maybe I should cushion myself with this fall, it may blow the others a bit back, but ooooohhhhhhhhh too late matey
His voice rang out for most that cared to hear. "DYNAMIC ENTRY!"
He landed on the courtroom floor beside White. He had managed to land on his feet with his knees bent, but had required the use of his arm to lessen the pressure in a very generic, and cliché pose. It was necessary at this time that he say something.
"Where be yer law degree Madam?" This question was the only one he could think of in time, and as he got up, he was shocked to see the assailant still in his wait, it wasn't a girl with a voice changer? But that was the oldest trick in the book? These earth criminals were a lot smarter than they seemed. "Oh my, I'm terribly sorry, I thought you were a lady...and...well..." He cringed, and backpedaled behind Melanie, dragging White with him.
"Titans- to my side!"
Those four words sent an excited tingle down Aura’s spine. She yanked to window open and felt her haunches wiggle like a kitten about the pounce. Blinked, she hardened her expression, and dove through the window. She forced herself into a tuck and roll and thought to herself, was that what, the fourth time in two days?
As she stopped she immediately leapt to her feet, and landed next to Pulse, who seemed to be embarrassed about something. Aura flashed him an excited/nervous/happy half smile. This was her first time doing something in a team. She usually flew solo. But maybe a change of scenery would be nice?
Aura looked over to Melanie and said, “What’s your call?” Aura stood up straight, feeling pride come off of her in waves and her chest puffing out to look bigger. She felt rather small, being surrounded by all of these boys. It was just her and Melanie who were girls. Oh well. A girl is just as good as a guy. Just because Aura was a girl didn’t mean she was going to let any guy tell her what to do or make her feel weak. She was just as good as them. Well… that’s what she hoped.
The girl had dodged rather expertly over Ryan's scythe, but as she passed through his sphere, Ryan could barely contain a gasp. The girl's body was filled with countless impacts, sprockets, servos, and gears turned endlessly within her body. She was an android. What was she? Some sort of automated defense bot? Whatever she was, she intrigued Ryan to no end. He stood stock still as he pondered her origins, giving her an opportunity to knock him to the ground with a sweeping kick and grab a fistful of his hair and shove him to the ground. However, Ryan was no slouch in close quarters combat, he slammed his fist into her midriff, but as expected, her body held firm against his soft flesh. Again and again he struck her, but she never let go, all the while lecturing him like some self-righteous, self-proclaimed hero. He didn't like where this was going. Inside her arm, Ryan felt gears whirring, something was going on in there and he didn't like it at all. Though he struggled, he couldn't escape her iron grip, or perhaps it was steel. Regardless, Ryan couldn't wrench himself free from her, all the while staring into her eyes, his own full of hate.
"You see it don't you? You're playing judge. You're unsatisfied and have decided to give him the death sentence because of that. Sure you have your excuses and your neat little papers, but the real reason behind your decree is because getting to decide the outcome human life makes you feel powerful and that's your greatest desire Krótos. That's your ultimate goal." She spoke harshly as he was forced down and she grabbed a hold of a fist full of his hair, scanning it for any matches. "Isn't that right... Ryan O'Connell?" Ryan couldn't hold it anymore. He gasped. "How the hell do you know who I am?" He shouted at her, but she didn't answer his question. If she was an android, she must have taken a sample from his hair and cross-referenced it to some database, but where? Ryan had committed no crimes, he wasn't in the military, he'd only... been to the hospital once. After the accident, Ryan had spent a few weeks there.
With that she let go and jumped back, and spoke aloud, "Titans- to my side!" As she called out, four impacts hit the floor. Two rather heavy, one about the size of a regular human, and another that felt a bit lighter than the others. There were footsteps, and scuffling as well as a few voices.
"Lets hurry up and show this dude what these 'useless heroes' can do, shall we?" Said a male voice, a bit heavier set, but not much larger than Ryan was.
"DYNAMIC ENTRY! Where be yer law degree ma'am? Oh my, I'm terribly sorry, I thought you were a lady...and...well..." Said a second voice. It spoke with strange inflections and weird grammar, much like a... pirate? His confusion of Ryan's gender made him growl.
"What’s your call?" Said the last voice, it was the only other girl's voice, and it sounded smaller than the others.
"But where is the jury, Judge O'Connell? You claim the people want to rise up against this man; let them! Or are you going to follow the footsteps of the very man you seek to convict and overrule them when you know they will support the justice you claim to uphold?" There was a break as a long, metallic shing broke her train of thought. The sound of a bladed weapon. "Because if you will not deliver justice, they will. If they will not, I will. And if ever I cannot, then others will rise up and take my place as heroes and defenders of Jump City."
Ryan breathed out slowly. All the while his anger had been building, and finally, he could contain it no longer. He threw the detonator away from him, back into the box where he'd taken it out from earlier. "SHUT UP!" He roared, gaining their attention. "It's not about life and death. It's not about power and weakness. Hell, this isn't even about me. This is about fairness! About what's right and wrong! Hell, this stupid judge isn't even the star here. It's Jump City! The whole goddamn place is so full of corruption and greed and filth! Why would you stand up to defend this place? It's not worth saving anymore. So why the hell do people like him get to live and thrive and flourish in this den of evil while the good and innocent suffer!"
At that, Ryan began to channel his power. He whirled his scythe above his head, manipulating the scythe's interactions with the air to create a whirlwind, to pick up and toss around the papers all over the floor. As the papers flew around him, hiding him slightly, Ryan used the stored energy from the impacts created by him striking the android to fuel his legs and jumped. He launched himself high into the rafters, flicking his scythe out to catch one of the beams and flip himself onto it. Despite his rage at their indifference to the suffering of the innocent, Ryan knew that five on one was just bad strategy, he was by no means intending to run, he just needed to proceed carefully. Once the papers below had settled, Ryan gauged the distance to the place he thought they would be and launched himself from the rafters, ignoring the air resistance to fall faster than normal, Ryan flew through the air, scythe first, and smashed into the ground, whirling his body around the scythe as he hit the ground to change his center of gravity and not break his scythe. Hopefully he had landed right in the middle of the group of five... Titans... and could separate them. It would make fighting the group easier. As he smashed into the ground, he manipulated the impact to release all of the energy as heat and noise. There was nearly no mark on the floor, but the resulting crash was as hot as a fire and as loud as a grenade.
Melanie watched with satisfaction as her team entered the scene in their own dramatic way. First was Sprouse was the first. He came in through the roof and he landed with one clenched fist into the ground and an aura of sparks was made visible around him for all of two seconds before they disappeared. He stood and looked to Mel and she gave him small nod of recognition. "You know, you take a while. I was beginning to get bored of waiting." he said with a hint of humor on the edge of his voice and Melanie shrugged a lame apology, her mouth quirking up a little in an equally playful way. "Let’s hurry up and show this dude what these 'useless heroes' can do, shall we? I wanna get back in time to watch something."
"DYNAMIC ENTRY!"Came a voice that Melanie’s system classified as Pulse’s voice just as he came through the ceiling and landed beside White who’d come charging in as well, landing on his feet with his knees bent in a rather cliché but never the less effective pose. "Where be yer law degree Madam?" he asked, only, in seemed, to realize that Krotos was in fact male. His face twisted in confused and then embarrassment as he started to babble an apology. "Oh my, I'm terribly sorry, I thought you were a lady...and...well..." Melanie couldn’t help but chuckle as the flustered man reeled, almost dragging White with him as he all but hid behind Melanie.
Not an instant later a figure, obviously a girl, dove through the open window, rolling across the floor and jumping to her feet beside Pulse and to the right of Melanie. She gave a small smile as she looked over to Melanie and said, “What’s your call?” Melanie looked between the four of them and felt pride swell in her heart (metaphorically or course as, being a machine, she had not physical heart) she pointed to Krotos as if to say ’Him. He is our target.’ But their target seemed to be getting angrier with every passing moment until finally he snapped.
”SHUT UP!!!” he shouted, infuriated as he threw the detonator which controlled the building’s explosives away, much to Melanie’s relief.
"It's not about life and death. It's not about power and weakness. Hell, this isn't even about me. This is about fairness! About what's right and wrong! Hell, this stupid judge isn't even the star here.” Krotos roared, froth forming in the corners of his mouth as he spat each word as if they were poisonous on his tongue, ”It's Jump City! The whole goddamn place is so full of corruption and greed and filth! Why would you stand up to defend this place? It's not worth saving anymore. So why the hell do people like him get to live and thrive and flourish in this den of evil while the good and innocent suffer!"
"We defend this place because there is still hope!” Melanie replied heatedly, her fist clenched tightly, “If there is even a single person in this Jump City who is good, then it is worth saving!” Krotos clenched his jaw, tensing his muscles as he whirled his scythe above his head, manipulating the scythe's interactions with the air to create a whirlwind, to pick up and toss around the papers all over the floor. Melanie too tensed in preparation as he jumped, launching himself high into the rafters, flicking his scythe out to catch one of the beams and flip himself onto it, eyeing them.
“It’s true, we are also here to purify this evil but it is the hope that we bring that will cleanse this city, not fear!” Melanie continued, she herself jumping up and hovering in the air a short distance from where Ryan sat, weapon in hand. “Love, guidance and protection will strengthen the good and clear out the corruption you speak of! More hatred will only bring more evil, and it is why the corruption remains!” With that she launched at him but he instead dove towards the small group, his scythe forward and smashed it into the ground, forcing Melanie to recoil so as not to be struck.
When he hit the ground it was almost as if he had set off the bombs. She lowered her hearing frequency so that the sound was less aggravating, and beat the heat by decreasing her temperature with her internal cooling system. “Killing the evil will not cure the City, Ryan. It will only create more evil in its stead. Empowering the good is the only way it will be able to be saved, and stay safe for years to come!” Melanie pulled out two short swords from two hidden compartments on her legs, unseen by her companions and enemies, and held them steady, launching herself at Ryan, weapons raised.
Alice
Alice snorted walking through her shadow dimension, about an hour passed since she had stepped through a shadow in Abaddons lair. Finally finding the portal she needed Alice smiled before donning her clay mask; the one these pathetic Titans would soon know her as.
She peeked out just in time to see a girl produce two swords, where she got them from Alice had no clue but she knew it wasn’t magic. Behind her thin line of a smile on her mask Alice herself smiled cruelly with menace in her eyes. “Killing the evil will not cure the City, Ryan. It will only create more evil in its stead. Empowering the good is the only way it will be able to be saved, and stay safe for years to come!”
Alice suddenly partially stepped out of Ryan’s shadow a metal staff kept the girls swords at bay. She then began to laugh at the group before her. “Oh I will have to disagree with you on that little girl. Nothing good comes from empowering the good, don’t you know get it through your thick skull. No One is good no one, not even those who thought to protect this city before you” Alice’s voice rose and she flung the girls (Melonie) swords back taking on a better stance.
Then turning to face Ryan she smiled behind her mask not that he would see it. “Mind if I join you Boy this looks like it could be a lot of fun. Then again it would have been 1 against 5; the odds really wouldn’t have been in your favor. But now if you accept my offer then everything will be alright they are nothing more than hero-wannabes and they won’t get past me” her little speech was full of confidence but it was more or less true. Alice had been trained for this kind of thing, to fight multiple people at once especially those who were many times stronger than her. “Now shall we get to it then little kiddies” turning her head to look at each of them and assess their abilities.
Aura felt her lip suddenly curl up, like a snarling dog. Before she could stop it, she let out a deep, blood curdling growl. She blinked for a moment, before swallowing hard to stop herself from making that sound. Aura knew she had to keep as calm as possible. If her temper flared up again, so would her flames, and she might drain herself… again.
When Krotos struck the ground, Aura felt a rush of air push her backwards. She skidded a few moments, with her knees bent and one hand on the ground. Standing up straight, she let out a deep breath through her nose, feeling her nostrils flare like an angry bull. Her eyes darted from side to side, taking in her surrounds, looking for what she would be able to use. The ground was mostly marble, marble was a mineral, and minerals were earth. She could use that. There was air, obviously. But, what she really wanted was a water source. Water takes the least amount of energy, and now would be a good time to test out ice. She worked better under pressure. Her eyes settled on a certain door, and then glanced back up at her enemy. Suddenly, another one came from out of nowhere, and started helping Krotos. Aura growled again.
Aura took a good five steps back, until her back was against the wall. She lifted up one foot, and placed it against the stable surface. Lowering her head she pushed off the wall, and a rush of air sent her launching forwards, right past everyone. She then flew right into the girls’ bathroom.
Aura knew she would never hear the end of it after this. But she needed a water source. The door cluttered shut behind her as Aura walked over to the sinks. She spread her arms out quickly, but nothing happened. “Oh come on, not now!” The girl yelled, her hands balling into fists. She thrust her arms apart again, and was welcomed by nothing. “Serious-freaking-ly?!?!” She snarled. “Third times a charm!” She hoped and, jaw clenched, she threw her arms apart. For a moment nothing happened. Then a loud WOOSH ensued and the sinks exploded, the water pipes spraying water everywhere. “SUCCESS!” She cried happily jumping up, throwing a triumphant fist into the air. The water jumped up, following her actions and smashed through the ceiling. “Umm… whoops.” Aura then darted out of the room.
The water followed Aura along the ground like a giant moving puddle. She stopped, now on the opposite side of where the Titans were. When she stopped, the water lurched forwards and cascaded over her, covering her shoulders, arms, and upped body, like a sort of water armor. Of course it wouldn’t provide that much protection, but Aura needed something to fight with. Her jaw was clenched angrily. “Wanna be-heroes? What makes you soooo hot? Huh? I know what it’s like to be hot, though I think I’ll keep it cool for a while.” The word cool came out as a sort of hiss. She wasn’t sure if it was the smartest idea to attack first, but Aura was not in a good mood right now. She gave a forwards punching motion, not moving from her spot. A pulse of water came from her water armor, having about a three and a half foot diameter. It was just supposed to hit them in the feet, to knock them off balance. Though Aura tried to think ahead, so at the last second, the water curved upwards and landed a bit higher.
Ryan landed hard, setting off what sounded like a miniature bomb. He twirled his legs around, manipulating his center of gravity so as to stay on top of the pole for a moment, before planting both feet and spinning his scythe around his body, holding it in a ready position. Then, he heard a noise, Ryan whipped his head around. One of the voices was speaking to him. "Wanna be-heroes? What makes you soooo hot? Huh? I know what it’s like to be hot, though I think I’ll keep it cool for a while." At that, Ryan heard the sound of... rushing water? Unfortunately, he was right. The impacts of water against air showed a large amount of liquid blasting towards him. Ryan just barely managed to vault up into the air with scythe, pulling it up before it was swept away as the water whooshed by underneath him. "Crap. One of them's an elemental. This is just not my day. First there's more than one, now they can fight pretty well. Shit." Ryan thought, landing solidly on two feet. Then another spoke, accompanied by the sound of jets. "Killing the evil will not cure the City, Ryan. It will only create more evil in its stead. Empowering the good is the only way it will be able to be saved, and stay safe for years to come!" She yelled, getting closer all the while. "That android girl. She must be using a jetpack." Ryan turned to face the noise, lifting his scythe to deflect her attack when, suddenly a girl partially stepped up out the ground. She raised a metal staff, keeping the android's swords at bay. She then began to laugh. “Oh I will have to disagree with you on that, little girl. Nothing good comes from empowering the good, don't you know? Get it through your thick skull. No one is good, no one. Not even those who thought to protect this city before you.” Her voice rose and she flung the android's swords back taking on a better stance and fully stepping out of the ground.
Then turning to face Ryan she spoke. “Mind if I join you boy? This looks like it could be a lot of fun. Then again it would have been 1 against 5; the odds really wouldn't have been in your favor. But now if you accept my offer then everything will be alright. They are nothing more than hero-wannabes and they won't get past me.” Her little speech was full of confidence. “Now shall we get to it then little kiddies.” Ryan stood for a moment, then, as quickly as he could, he whirled on the spot, striking with his scythe, and locking with this newcomer, who had raised her staff in defense. Ryan leaned forward, across the weapons, getting his masked face as close as he could to this newcomer's. "I don't need your help. I know these kids are nothing. I can handle it, so get out of here unless you want my blade at your throat." At that, Ryan used the impact from earlier to push the newcomer with the staff as hard as he could away from her. "I don't need your help, so scram. I've got no reason to fight with you. However, if you stick around." Ryan yelled, turning on the spot, and facing the group of Titans once more. "I'll kill you myself." Ryan finished, quieter than he started.
Striding forward, Ryan hefted his scythe once more, walking with calm purpose towards the source of the water. Based on it's trajectory, it could only have come from one spot. Then again, Ryan supposed an elemental could control it's angle. He stamped his foot as hard as he could, feeling out with invisible waves of sight. The sound reflected off the bodies of the Titans, giving him their rough positions, but better yet, were the vibrations. He felt a person with his Tremor sense, and directly behind her, was a puddle of water. His head turned towards her, and cocked slightly to the left. "You." Ryan whispered, just loud enough to hear. "Shall we dance, little one?" Ryan said, before charging towards this new threat. As he ran, he allowed his legs to build up energy from the impacts, instead of using it as it came in, like normal. Once he got within about twelve feel of her, Ryan jumped forward, dashing at an incredible speed after using up the impact energy from his feet against the floor.
