Arc Troiya

So long as this job includes a roof over my head and a meal on my plate, I'm in!

0 · 568 views · located in The Nightwing

a character in “The Nightwing's Voyage”, originally authored by ali_rox96, as played by RolePlayGateway

Description

Name: Arc Troiya
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Rank: Weapons engineer

Image

Arc is your typical human with palish skin, blonde hair and light blue eyes; she doesn’t stand out and she makes it a point not to. She’s always wearing old, patchy clothes and run down sneakers, she doesn’t dress up. Ever.

Personality

Arc is whimsical and a dreamer, always has been always will be, no matter what life throw at her it will never take that away from her.
When Arc was young she was determined and always believed she could do whatever she wanted so long as she put her heart into it. She always saw the world differently to others, she hated deadlines and pressure. She always threw herself into everything and did everything slightly differently from everyone else.
Arc is still the same girl, it’s just a little deeper down and less innocent. Life happened. Her experiences have hardened her around the edges. She became excessively self-reliant and came to despise handouts and relying on people. She stopped keeping friends because she never made contact or gave them a way to contact her, that and she hardly stayed anywhere long enough to make friends. She stayed her ever whimsical self though and enjoys the adventure of never knowing where her next meal is coming from or where she will be when she eats it.

Equipment

Arc usually has a switchblade in her back pocket and her newest gun on her person.

History

Arc has no idea the identity of her parents no cares to find out. As far as she is concerned Sarath, her stepfather was her only family. Sarath was a Toshick; the tinkerers of the Universe. Toshicks have been accredited with the creation of many inventions due to their uncanny interest in pulling things apart and trying to make them better. Not many Toshicks remain though as they would much prefer to explore the world discovering new inventions than settling down and starting a family. Sarath was a weapons expert but would move to a new post once he decided there was nothing new or exciting left for him at his current post. So him and Arc moved around a lot, from space stations to military bases to strange planets. Sarath had no qualms about who he was working for, Arc picked up this attitude of his. Wherever they went though Sarath would teach Arc everything he knew about the trade and she would always be with him when he worked. When Arc was 15 she pre enrolled to the Intergalactic Defense Academy. When the ship Sarath was on was engaged in battle and was destroyed she changed her mind and decided she didn’t want to live and die for other people’s problems. Arc ended up all alone fending for herself. A few friend’s of her fathers offered to take her in but she refused, determined to look after herself. Arc began to wander from planet to planet never being able to find one to call home. Once the money her father had left her had run out she started taking out weapons mechanic jobs here and there to make ends meet. Everything her father had taught her and her instincts from growing up around weapons made her a rather talented weapons expert despite never having official training. Arc began taking up any job she could find until another would peak her interest. Arc started enjoying the adventure of being attached to no one or no where. She never has money in her pocket but she is happy this way so long as the job includes a roof over her head and food on her plate.

So begins...

Before Arc could respond to Eddie, The Captain had returned from wherever she had gone and soon they were all leaving for the Nightwing. Everyone seemed excited to see the new ship. Arc didn’t get that, she didn’t really see anything to be excited about, weren’t all ships really the same. After being one of the last to get out of the cramped cruiser she found herself finally on the Nightwing.

"Getting to know a ship always is exciting, isn't it?" Saein said causing Arc to make a slightly baffled face. “I don’t know, aren’t they kind of all the same” Arc said in a daze without thinking about what she was saying. When she realized what she had said she flashed an apologetic smile at the other girl hoping she hadn’t heard what she had said. She didn’t want to come off as rude or offensive. She wandered on to large ship, surprised with it’s impressive size, it defiantly was not always a ship meant for adventure, fighting and all that.

"I would suggest nobody leaves without knowing where they are going, unless you want to wander around for a while." Eddie said speaking up from a little way away from the group. So Eddie had seen this ship before Arc mused to herself. “I think I’ll take you up on that,” Arc said to Eddie lightly before wandering past him and further away from the group. She always liked to discover things herself, like how you would expect a child to go ‘exploring.’ It was a childhood habit she couldn’t quite kick. Not that she made much attempt at it, but she found it was easier to find her way around like this. Besides if she got too lost there was always that AI to help her out. This ship couldn’t be that big and it's not like she didn't mind wandering around alone, it gave her time to think daydream.

“I don’t know, aren’t they kind of all the same” Arc replied to her remark, then looked a bit embarrassed. Saein smiled. “Yes, they’re all designed to keep air inside and have some sort of engine to move them around. Kind of like how all weapons are meant for pointing at things you feel threatened by.” She made the “pew pew” gesture at Arc, laughed, and added “Just teasing.”

As she got out of the land cruiser, it became obvious to Saein that the Nightwing had once been a passenger ship. She wasn't happy about that. Passenger ships were full of unneeded space, making them both less sturdy and more likely to hit something. Worse, they were designed to be silent, making beginning problems more difficult to hear. Worst, they weren't designed to be easily repaired when a pilot took them beyond their specs, instead everything was built to defend such ships against kids with screwdrivers and drunk passengers who might confuse a handle on a wall panel for a door. The last ship she had worked on had been an example of these problems, those were the only reason it needed more than one or two mechanics. At least the Nightwing had been improved both on the outside and the inside.

She walked a short distance away from the rest. “Hello, MAK. My name is Saein, I’m the new mechanic.” Her datapad buzzed, she ignored that for now. “I'm going to need the technical data and the spare parts inventory list.”

“Welcome, Saein. You already have it.”

Saein looked through the information. “Is that all?”

“I left out the things that aren’t relevant to your job.”

“I'm a proactive mechanic, MAK. Everything is relevant to my job.” She sighed. Who had ever come up with the bright idea of making computers worse by letting them make assumptions? At least MAK did give her the remaining data without complaining about insufficient access rights. “Now guide me along the shortest route visiting all of the ship except the private areas.”

“Understood. Keep walking in that direction, then turn left” the AI replied.

Saein turned to face the rest of the crew first. “Hey Bond, MAK is showing me all of the ship, do you want to join the tour? It will be a long one.” Turning back to follow the directions of the AI, her eyes landed on Minn for a moment. She hoped things would work out well for that rookie. Saein brought her thoughts back to ships and work. “Okay MAK, here we go.”

Arc hummed to herself as she wandered down endless hallways, her right hand trailing along the wall. She hadn’t really found anywhere of importance yet and anyone else would probably be impatient and annoyed by now. Her right hand suddenly pulled away from the wall as she smelt all different foods. She moved around two corners, following her nose before she made it into the kitchen. She figured it was the kitchen due to the kitcheny utensils and appliances as well as food substances scattered all about the room. She found Minn and Cassandra hovering about, Minn she knew would be there, but she wasn’t expecting Cassandra. Shrugging it off she smiled at them both. “Kitchen. I’ll defiantly be remembering this place.” Arc said simply before giving a wink to Minn and leaving the kitchen.

Arc continued wandering around, paying no attention where she was going, not looking back at where she had been, only ahead. She came to a stop at another room of significance. Or at least she figured it was significant seeming as some guy with strange hair was already there in an office. She remembered that he was their doctor, which would make this place the infirmary. Which made sense, the only thing this place could possibly be was an infirmary. With the beds and medical cabinets and all. She turned back to the guy with weird hair. “We haven’t met yet, I’m Arc.” She said, introducing herself with a smile and small wave from across the room. She smiled warmly as she moved closer the him. “I like the hair,” Arc said lightheartedly as she reached up to touch it but changed her mind halfway. Moving her hand back down to her side, she started looking around the office. As she did this her mind started wandering, I really must find the armory, she thought to herself.

Reggie

"What's the first order of business Cap?"

Reggie smiled, her mind racing with the possibilities. They had to speak with the crew, make sure everyone knew the task at hand. Then they would have to start the engines, make sure everything was going okay within. MAK could only check so much. She was almost giddy about finally feeling the Nightwing's engines purr again.

"Actually," She said leaning on the counter across from him. Their faces mere inches apart. "This is a pretty good opportunity to talk to MAK. And I want your opinion as well."

"You need me, Captian?" MAK's voice rang through.

"Yes, since we're at a stand still since everyone is exploring the ship, I feel like we should have our talk now."

"Understood Ma'am." MAK said. "I do have a message from the Doctor. He says he will enjoy his time here."

Reggie laughed, glad the doctor was enjoying the infirmary.

"Now Colin, I was speaking with MAK earlier, about my concerns of captaining a ship that is ran mainly by an AI." Reggie explained standing up straight. "And I want your opinion on this as well."

She paced along the floor, limping. "Would it be wise to get more people to man the ship. Like living people. Who knows what we'll experience when we reach the outer limits. We can hit magnetic fields that interfere with MAK's programming. And then we'll be stranded in some distant galaxy."

She took a deep breath eyeing her second. "We can probably go to the IDA and pick up some graduates. The IDA is always looking for opportunities to give the students real life experience."

Alexander

Alex was startled by the sudden voice behind him, and he spun around quickly, his coat catching around his knees.

"Oh, um, hello." He fumbled. "I'm Dr. Alexander Greenhaven. But, call me Alex." He shook hands with the attractive blonde, and found himself staring a bit too long.

He coughed and adjusted his gaze to stare at anything else. He was such a loser. He was told that he looked like someone who oozed confidence and could talk a girl into his bed in two seconds, but that wasn't the case. He was awkward with the opposite gender. With any gender really. He spent most nights studying, socializing wasn't one of his strong suites.

"Um, yeah, the hair." He laughed nervously running a hand through it's rough spikes. "You said you were Arc, that's an interesting name."

He laughed nervously.

"You said you were Arc, that's an interesting name."

Arc was looking away from Alex, off in a daydream when her comment pulled her back to reality. Looking over at him from the corner of her she gave him a small sad smile. “You never met my father,” she said lightly and quietly before turning to face him. “Now he was interesting, though he was a Toshick, so I suppose it was understandable.” She continued in a louder voice.

It was strange that no matter how no matter how much time passed she still missed her father more than anything. It didn’t get easier like people always said it would. Arc just got better at pushing it away. “It’d be kinda cool if it had some story attached to it though wouldn’t it?” Arc said dreamily after a few beats, her mind already drifting off, making up different stories behind her name.

"You don't necessarily need a special story attached to your name." Alex said watching the blonde's eyes drift to a different location. "Your parents gave you your name, it must have had special meaning to them. And really, what else do you need?"

He looked through a few files that he had pulled out of his file cabinet, and then set them down on his desk. "Unless you hate your parents." He chuckled quietly.

An awkward silence fell over the two, and Alex found himself fidgeting with his hands. He continued to slip them in and out of his coat pockets, then crossing them over his chest, then back to his pocket. "Um," He piped up.

"I'm hungry, want to come find the kitchen with me?"

"I'm hungry, want to come find the kitchen with me?"

Arc thought about Alex's question for a moment before the hunger she had felt this morning returned to her. It had been a while since she had had a proper meal. Since she was used to eating regularly she could push the hunger away to a deep dark place in her body and ignore it. Though she was going to have to eat something soon; she knew her limits, mostly from pushing them too far. Smiling back up at Alex she decided to take him up on the offer.

Walking over to the door she motioned for him to go first. "Lead the way Doc," she said, neglecting to voice the fact that she had already found the kitchen. She would hang back and follow him. You could learn a lot about someone from something as simple ans how they found there way around. That and Arc was a natural observer off people rather than an active participant. "Oh, by the way," Arc started after a few moments looking over at Alex beside her. "Were those the crew's medical files you had on your desk? Cause you know your going to have to let me see mine sometime." She said lightly, laughing slightly as she bumped him with her shoulder. Though it wasn't a effective bump as he was big and burly and she sometimes suffered from lack of nutrition. It wasn't hard to see where she would've had trouble.

Alexander

Giving a nervous laugh, Alex quickly exited the infirmary and began walking down the corridor. He suddenly felt nervous. He was never comfortable leading. He was smart and could easily tell you how to remove the liver of any alien species, but he was a nervous wreck when physically leading someone to something.

He kept glancing over his shoulder to see Arc, making sure she was still there. She was. Eyeing him. He gulped. Why did he feel like she was judging him. She probably was. Judging every move he made, waiting for him to get lost. She probably knew where the kitchen was, and was playing that she didn't so she could judge ever so harshly.

He hated judgmental people.

Finally, over Arc's presence, Alex straightened his back and began pressing buttons on his datapad. He had access to the blueprints of the ship, and he didn't feel like asking MAK outwardly how to find the kitchen. So, he got to work, searching through the different compartments until he found it. Two floors up. He found the nearest elevator and quickly turned right, throwing off Arc, and began walking quickly to it.

His coat swooshed behind him, almost like a cape, but settled back down when he stopped at the elevator. "MAK, are the elevators the old style elevators where we have press buttons, or can you control them?"

"Both," Was his reply. "The Captain wanted to have both options in case something went wrong with my programming. Although, she always says that why someone would use an elevator when their was a rogue AI running loose, she would never understand."

Alex laughed. Although MAK didn't get the joke, Alex did. "Smart girl, she is." He whispered as the elevator doors slid open. He stepped inside, Arc following close behind.

She was so thin. Her bones practically sticking out of her skin. He read in her file that she didn't eat well, and had to be hospitalized several times because of malnutrition. In the file, it said it was because of her own influence that she was malnourished. She was given three square meals everyday. He would have to bring this up to the captain. She should know that one of her crew members was actively starving themselves.

Reggie eyed the sketch pad, the drawing of her mirroring her expression. "Wow, that's amazing." She exclaimed. She reached out to take the sketchpad, to get a closer look, but decided against it after seeing how attached to it the android was.

"How's the food coming along Minn," She joked. "I think we're all pretty hungry. Hey MAK! Send a message to everyone. We should all have a little dinner before setting off."

She smiled to her crew, happy with the ones she hired. They all seemed to fit well together. A band of misfits.

Alexander

The elevator finally stopped and the doors slid open. Alex was hit with a wave of delicious smells. Whatever was going on in the kitchen, it was probably amazing. He had never smelt so many smells before in his life and he wanted to eat up all of it.

Arc followed behind him as he walked, his nose carrying him the rest of the way.

"The captain wants all crew members to make their way to the kitchen. Dinner is being made."

MAK's voice echoed throughout the hallway. Oh man. Can't wait to eat.

He was more excited to eat than he was to see the infirmary.

Arc smiled lightly towards Alex as he took the lead, her wandering behind him. He looked really nervous though, he clearly hated leading as much as she did. She felt bad but she couldn't just jump out and say she knew where the kitchen was. Arc did however settle for giving him a small smile that he didn't see before her eyes started wandering away from the direction they were heading, taking her mind with them.

Arc was walking mindlessly behind Alex until she was brought back suddenly. She realized they were now in an elevator and she had no recollection of entering an elevator. She swallowed the surprised sound she felt trying to escape from her. She didn't want to look like an idiot who was surprised by an elevator. Looking over Alex and found him already looking at her. She didn't need to ask to know what he was thinking, she had seen that look so many times before. He was judging her like most people tend to, he had probably already decided exactly who she was in his mind. She didn't say anything to him though, if he wanted to judge her that was his right. If people didn't want to actually get to know her why should she bother? She knew who she was and that was enough for her.

The two of them spent the rest of the elevator ride in silence and when the doors finally opened Arc was attacked by several different smells. Closing her eyes she took a deep breath savoring the smells. "The captain wants all crew members to make their way to the kitchen. Dinner is being made." Laughing slightly she quickened her pace to be side by side with Alex.

"Guess someone's a little bit physic eh?" She said grinning up at him try to brake the silence that had engulfed them since they left the infirmary. "That food smells delicious though, I'm glad the captain hired a great cook. There better be seconds as well." Arc continued dreamily, looking ahead rather than at Alex this time.

The captain listened to her crew converse. They all seemed to be getting along well, which pleased Reggie. It was always difficult to captain a crew that were at odds with each other. The food was starting to smell really good. Just the butter melting in a pan was making her mouth water.

She loved food, about as much as she loved flying, and getting to eat on her ship was the best of both worlds. She couldn't wait to eat whatever it was Minn was cooking. Reggie propped her elbow up on the counter, resting her chin in her hand. She laughed along with her crew, and smiled, but she said nothing.

She just wanted to listen to them.

[b]Alexander[/u]

Alex practically jumped out of his skin when Arc finally spoke. He tried to keep himself composed as he spoke with her, but he could feel his heart still beating. He laughed along with her, but didn't speak.

The doors to the kitchen slid open and Alex was hit with a wave of smells. It smelt delicious in the hallway, but the kitchen, it was glorious. There were already several people in the kitchen, including the captain. They all seemed to be having a great time, and Alex felt awkward coming in in the middle of their conversation. But he stepped forward, moving to take the seat next to Regina.

She had noticed their arrival and smiled, waving them over. He immediately plopped down on the empty stool, pushing his coat out so he wouldn't seat on it. "It smells great in here. Who's our chef?"

Alex looked up to see the bright pink hair he had seen on many of the women he had grown up around. The pink skin that matched triggered something in his head that meant familiarity. He was immediately transported back to his old home planet, playing with the Shariva children. He remember Nora, his first girlfriend. Her purple skin and hair burning in his brain.

Looking up at the chef of the Nightwing, he couldn't help but feel his heart pounding, his face getting warm. She was beautiful.

Dlew had heard something about room mates and wondered if he would get a room or would he sleep on a floor some where like the previous ship he was on. Thinking about sleep was making Dlew get even more tired and Was starting to nod off trying to fight the battle between hunger and conchiness. Dlew was just slipping and started to hang his head down until he droped his head on the table with a loud BANG! and fell asleep then about 20 - 30 minutes he woke back up.

Dlew then woke up screeming and panting then looked around the room to notice every one looking at him with compleate curiosity and then Dlew stood up and moved to a corner of the room and started drawing away from every one. He was not looking at anyone just sitting in the corner drawing.

Arc grabbed a large plateful of the first thing she came across, she really wasn't a fussy eater, she was grateful for anything someone else would cook for her. Seating down slightly away from everyone else she consumed her meal peacefully and in silence. She was sociable and enough and while she loved getting to know people and their quirks, likes dislikes etc. She wasn't particularly fond of group scenarios. The meal was truly delicious, Minn really was a great cook, though Arc always thought meals were delicious.

After most of the crew had finished, the Captain called them over to some larger tables. Arc wandered over to where the captain had motioned for them all the gather. After she had sat down she looked to her side and saw she had sat down next to Saein, she didn't have time to say anything though as the Captain had gone into speech mode. She talked about where they were going and the point of this little voyage though Arc only really paid attention to the images the Captained showed. Arc didn't really catch the small details but she got the gist of it but she was confused about what the big deal was. Why were the travelling so far to go to some planet; she had never really grown up knowing much if any, about human history or culture. She looked around and found herself only more confused than before, everyone else seemed to get it.

It didn't take Saein long to voice her opinion causing Arc to glance over at the Firni. "Hey Saein, why are going to be travelling such a long way just for some planet?" Arc asked her, though as soon as the question came out of her mouth she realized she had said it much louder than she intended.

"Hey Saein, why are going to be travelling such a long way just for some planet?" Arc asked her. Saein couldn’t believe a human would ask her that question, and loud enough to show her ignorance to everyone too! But she shouldn’t judge, there probably was some reason Arc didn’t know what Earth was.

“Just for shits and giggles, it’s only supposed to be your missing home planet, nothing special, really” she said with a friendly laugh. “If you want more of an explanation of human history you should ask the captain, I don’t know much about it. Working on a ship that’s looking for something difficult to find just happens to be my idea of fun, you often get to see lots of interesting things you weren’t looking for.”

Reggie nodded towards Saein, who had already voiced her approval to continue on. Although, the captain wasn't quite finished, she was grateful to already have the mechanic on her team. She was about to continue when Arc perked up, asking Saein why this planet was so important.

Reggie shook her head. Of course. She feared this would happen. Most humans would get an extensive knowledge of their history, depending on what planet or space station they were sent to. Others, like Arc, wouldn't.

"Just for shits and giggles it's only supposed to be your missing home planet. Nothing special, really."

Reggie eyed Saein, and then to Arc. "Earth was lost to the humans many years ago. Shortly after humans discovered alien life, something happened. What happened is not written in any text books, no one is still alive to tell the tale, and the Intergalactic Council is as useful as a space rock."

She sighed. "It is rumored that this is Earth. I could be completely wrong in my calculations, and we could be traveling to some Linrees infested planet." She explained, referring to one of the most deadly creatures in the galaxy. Linrees were large, deadly, and would kill without any other thought.

"But, if this is Earth, we may be able to uncover what happened almost a thousand years ago. I know most of you aren't human, and could probably care less about the human history, but this is bigger than human history. It's galactic history. Something happened on Earth. Something that could happen to any one of your home planets. Knowing what happened to Earth could help save other planets alike."

“Hmm, I did see why it would be exciting and interesting and of historical importance, but I hadn’t considered the ‘helping others’ side” Saein commented. “Anyway, anything that can move a planet or can be enough reason to wipe records of where it is has to be worse than Linrees. It’s probably not even something you can shoot. But if that makes anyone nervous, remember that for example stars are much worse than Linrees, when you’re heading directly into them. Whatever it was, it hasn’t done anything we know of for almost a thousand years. And it might be just some Linrees infested planet after all.”

She exchanged a look with the captain. “Sorry, that probably wasn’t helpful for convincing everyone not to back out. I should have stopped talking after ‘I’m in’. I have a feeling this is less dangerous than some missions I’ve been on, and I see a good crew around me, so I’m in.” She crossed her arms and decided to shut up for a while.

Arc listened to Regina explain Earth and how it was the lost home world of the humans. She looked around a little awkwardly, she probably should have taken advantage of the moment to explain that outwardly she was anything but human. She chose not to though and kept quite. She listened to Saein, Dlew and Eddie agree to stay on the ship. "There's no way I'd back out." Arc said lightly, there was no way she would back out of something once she had started it. That and she still wasn't quite sure why their mission was suddenly considered so dangerous.

Arc left the Kitchen and made her way to the Armoury. She had only realised she had yet to see what kind of Armoury this ship had, that and at some point she'd have to do what she was hired to do. The Armoury was perfect. If Arc could have fallen in love with an inanimate object it would have been this armoury. There were more spare parts than she could count and more tools than she knew how to use. Before she had a chance to drool too much though she was suddenly hurdled around the room though throwing her around wasn't a very hard feat. The force of taking off only lasted a few minutes though before the ship went back to normal.

Arc only took a few moments though to get her balance before she went searching through all the cupboards and containers. She mentally documented everything she found ans she went. After she had been around the Armoury twice she sat down on the bench in the middle of the room, pulling her legs up and sitting cross-legged. Arc then started grabbing what almost seemed like random bits and equipment and started twisting screws, pulling things apart, screwing things together, etc. Mostly she was just playing and filling her own quota of enjoyment and curiosity, she would need to talk to Reggie before she could begin any real work. It was kind of hard to make/enhance weapons for an unknown enemy or place.
