Colin Seartjik

"You think you can get away from me? Haha, good luck"

0 · 964 views · located in The Nightwing

a character in “The Nightwing's Voyage”, as played by BAWADABOO

Description

Name: Colin Seartjik- (Coalin Swartcheck)
Age: 543 years.
Gender: Male
Species: Metamorphite
Rank: First Mate

Colin is a Metamorphite. His species was given this name because they have the ability to freely modify their organs and skeletal structure and change into any species they have physically touched. Through Colin's travels he has added many creatures to his "Beastiary" of sorts, and because of this, and his whimsical attitude, he doesn't stay in one form for more than an hour or so at a time. Whenever he is meeting with foreign dignitaries, or abassadors, he takes their form to make them feel more comfortable. But when speaking to Reggie he often takes a human form. He is fond of this form, but its physical limitations upset him sometimes.

His true form is a tall, skinny, dark red creature. His skin has smallish bumps all over it. He finds this form unpleasent, so he refuses to enter it unless absolutely necessary.

His traditional human form is one he recieved many years ago. The man had light brown hair and a lean build. He had a pleasent smile and his physical prowess impressed Colin.

Personality

Colin is a fun loving, free spirited creature. He loves to keep the mood light and will do whatever he can to make it so. He has a short attention span, and gets bored easily, causing him to switch forms when he feels limited. He is quite intellegent and wise, because of his extended years. He sometimes jokes when it is not necessary, but usually has control over himself. He is fairly disciplined when facing authority. He is also the only person on the Nightwing who adresses the captain as Reggie or Regina. The rest are to refer to her as captain or ma'am. He prides himself on this. He is a bit of a prankster as well.

Equipment

Colin wears the traditional "Morphsuit" of his people at all times. This suit is made of a special fabric designed by his people that changes along with the wearer. It expands or contracts in order to fit any species he changes into. It is a unitard of sorts without sleeves. It is reminiscent of the Human "Wetsuit" He does not carry a weapon, as many of his forms have bodily weapons and defenses.

History

The Metamorphite are a nomadic, peaceful race. They dont have a habit of imperial conquest, rather, they travel far away, searching for other species to add to their bestiaries. They do not instigate fights, but are more than ready and willing to fight back. Theres nothing more difficult than fighting yourself, so Metamorphites usually win. Metamorphites are immune to age, as they can rebuild their bodies when they become old. Many Metamorphites live to be milllions of years old. The "elders" have survived in this fashion for uncountable years and constantly seek knowledge.

Colin's family was no different. They roamed the stars as any other family would. When Colin was 341 years of age he chose to enter the Intergalactic Defense Academy. He worked as a deckhand for years before becomig a scout for an older ship in the fleet. His ship was retired after many years and he was put on indefinite leave for his many years of service. It was then that he met Regina Oris. The two shared a passion for knowledge, and she took him on as first mate of the Nightwing. He has served with her as long as she has been captain, and plans to continue working with her until she finds what she is looking for. Colins age is proportional to 26 human years. He is still seen as a young adult among other Metamorphites

So begins...

"This is taking too long." Colin groaned dropping his head.

Reggie couldn't help but agree. They were both extremely tired, and stuck in the small space for a while. They were both itching to get out of this place, she could feel it in her legs. Even her bum knee, which usually hurt when she was walking for long periods of time, was itching for her to move. The lack of movement and exercise was making her knee hurt more than usual.

She leaned her on his shoulder, sighing. "I know," She added. "We're almost done. Hopefully."

“Hey I’m Arc. Arc Troiya. Sorry, I’m a little late, I suppose you have some questions?”

Reggie glanced up and saw a spritely young human standing before their table. At least she looked human. Reggie sat up straight, eyeing the girl. She fidgeted consistently with the old patches on her clothes. Her blue eyes darted anywhere, never, not once, landing on Reggie's own eyes. "Only a couple," The captain said eyeing her list.

Arc Troyia. Weapons specialist? Reggie looked back up at the blonde. She didn't look like any weapons specialist she's worked with before, but then again. Not many people have worked for a female captain before. There were only a few in the history books, even fewer today. Being a captain was a male dominated job, which is why Regina enjoyed it so much. Even with a bum knee, she proved herself on several occasions.

Looking up at Arc, Reggie couldn't help but wonder if this girl could prove herself. "I can see that you have nothing on your being besides the clothes on your back." Reggie began. "And that must also mean you didn't bring any paperwork for me to fully judge if you are suited for the Nightwing. So, Arc Troyia. My one question for you is, how can you prove to me that you are well suited for this position?"

Reggie propped her elbows up on the table, lacing her fingers together. She looked up at the girl, forcing the girl to look down at her. She wanted desperately for her to be of valuable use. Reggie didn't know if it was because of her human lineage, or how the girl carried herself. She looked about read to fall over from lack of nutrition. And no doubt the dirt marks on her pale skin were from the unsightly living conditions she was forced to live in.

Depending on what planet she has been assigned to, can lead to massive discrimination to humans.

Colin barely had a chance to react to the girl that approached him. He was handed a folder full of credentials. He didnt get the chance to look through them because the girl continued talking. He made eye contact and nodded quietly to her. She was obviously pretty excited to work on the ship. Or just excited in general.

A Star Trek reference? Damn girl. That television show is two thousand years old. Where the hell did she get a copy of it? He chuckled as she finally finished talking.

"Ok. First, lets calm down" he said with a smile. He thumbed through her file. She was pretty qualified for the position. Everything in there made her look good for the job. He nodded and put the file down.

"You look good." They could definitely use someone like her. He held out his hand. "Welcome aboard" he grinned. "I'm gonna be leading any scouting parties, so we will be working together pretty often." He shook her hand. "we rented out rooms for all of you in case you wanted to stay the night here." he backed away a bit. "See you on the ship" he nodded and walked back to the bar to have a drink.

Arc handed Reggie the gun carefully. The captain immediately held it like she was going to shoot it, aiming at nothing in particular. She aimed towards an empty wall, making sure no one was in the way, before pulling the trigger. Arc had done a great job.

The kickback was practically nonexistent. And the bullet shoot through the strong wall easily. The bullet shot through the first layer of wall and blew through the second tougher wall. It flew out of the inn and off into the distance. Thankfully not many people came around her, or Reggie would be afraid for someone's life.

She took a closer inspection of the gun, it was small and lightweight. And with that kind of power and lack of kickback. It was a phenomenal weapon. Reggie couldn't help but be impressed. She handed the gun back to Arc.

"Well Arc, welcome to the Nightwing." She shook hands with the young blonde. Arc walked away and Reggie finally got a chance to see the girl who walked up to Colin. She was small and spritely.

Was that a Star Trek reference, Reggie heard? She couldn't help but smile. Not many people knew of Star Trek. Reggie's great grandfather, who gave her her ship, was a huge fan of the show. Even though not even he was alive when it was a regular show on Earth. Reggie was close with her great grandfather, and he instilled in her a love of ships before he passed away when Reggie was 12.

She watched Colin shake hands with the girl and welcome her to the Nightwing. She learned her name and checked Cassiopeia Adler and Arc Troyia off her list. Only a few more left. She couldn't help but smile.

Waiting. It wasn't something Cassandra was good at. To be honest, she tried to ignore it at all costs. But still, here she was. Drumming her fingers on the table of some bar. A quite empty bar, at that. At least, it had been. A bunch of people, no doubt applying for a position on this ship, had filed in. They all immediately headed towards the girl that looked in charge. Oh, and the guy that seemed rather friendly with her. The Metamorphite. She would make sure she didn't share a handshake with him.

But after the last interview was over, it became quite boring. Actually, Cassandra would have gone over and introduced herself, but that wasn't exactly what she did. People came to her. And then if she felt she needed to, she ran. At least, that was how her race thought of it. Pushing the thought to the back of her mind, she simply sat there, growing more and more bored by the second. Soon, she was sitting on the table, make knots form in the small rope. A sigh found it's way through her lips and she stared down at the rope as she tugged it once and all the intricate knots vanished. Too easy. Her teal eyes found their way over to the Metamorphite and the Captain. She was still thinking about just walking over. Nope. She would stick out at some point. Her purple skin didn't make that too hard.

Reggie was starting to get bored. They had three positions still open and several people still to interview. She was starting to lose her mind. She noticed new faces talking with other hired crew, but yet they wouldn't come over and introduce themselves. She glanced at the bar noticing a purple skinned woman sitting there. She looked tense as she tied knots into a piece of string. When she glanced over, Reggie noticed her bright teal eyes.

Judging by the colors of her skin, hair, and eyes, Reggie assume she was a Xylamar. They were a very colorful people. Visiting them was like visiting a rainbow. If she was right in that she was a Xylamar, then the girl would not come over and say hello. It wasn't what her people did. They waited. Or ran.

She looked over at Colin. "I'm getting us something to eat." She said to him as she stood from her chair. Her boots thumped against the wood floors as she walked. It felt good to move, her knee actually enjoying the small shots of pain.

She leaned on the bar, close to the purple girl. "Hey barkeep. Can we get some food? Me and Colin are dying over there." The barkeep smiled and nodded his head. He pointed to the special. Bacon Cheeseburgers were the special today. And Reggie was completely okay with that.

It was no mystery that Earthlings love cheeseburgers. Something about grilled beef with cheese, and then add fried pig. It was a heart attack on a bun, and it appealed so much to Reggie. She looked over at Colin. She couldn't remember if he liked cheeseburgers. He always said that human food was less then desirable, but he could stomach it. If he wanted something different, she could eat his and he could order something else.

Reggie glanced at the Xylamar, who was making a point not to look at the captain. "You're a Xylamar, correct?" She asked. That got her attention. Reggie was met with bright teal eyes, the color of the ocean. "I'm Captain Regina Oris. Are you here for my crew?"

"Please."

Cassandra racked her brain for something to say, and then eventually thought of one of the simpler plans she had come up with, quite some time ago when she had first learned about hyper sleep. That would work, she supposed. Even though she knew the job was about alien species and such. Oh well. She could involve both.

"Well, I know an antidote of a sort for hyper sleep, Nauar. You'll be able to move merrily along within 30 minutes. No puking, for the most part. The only problem is the taste. It lasts quite a while, and isn't all that great." She said, tilting her head to one side. "Oh, and I can also say I know the species, culture, and language of everybody in this room. But I won't be shaking hands with your little boyfriend. I'm not fond of being copied." She was opening up for sure. Sounding more like she did when she talked to close friends.

"Did I pass your little test? I have better ideas, I just didn't want to overwhelm you, Nauar." A bigger smile crossed Cassandra's lips before she went back to her normal teasing hint of a grin.

An antidote for hyper sleep? Reggie almost passed out in excitement. She would hire her just for the chance to try that antidote.

"Did I pass your little test? I have better ideas, I just didn't want to overwhelm you, Nauar."

"Don't worry Cassandra, overwhelming me is the least of your worries." Reggie said with a smile. "Honestly, your sharp tongue is reason enough for me to hire you." She laughed. "But I would definitely like to see what else you have in story. If an antidote for hyper sleep sickness is nothing."

She held out her hand. "Welcome to the Nightwing. There are rooms available upstairs for all hired crew. Food and drinks are on the house. Do whatever you please tonight, just be back here tomorrow morning."

With that, Reggie walked back to her table with two plates of bacon cheeseburgers in hand. She looked at Colin, eyeing him suspiciously. "You still like bacon cheeseburgers right? I never know what your tastebuds like anymore."

"Welcome to the Nightwing. There are rooms available upstairs for all hired crew. Food and drinks are on the house. Do whatever you please tonight, just be back here tomorrow morning."

Cassandra looked down at the hand wearily, but sighed and shook it anyway. There was nothing to fear over a simple handshake. That is, if you shared it with the right person. After Regina retreated back to her Metamorphite boyfriend, she sat on the table once again and tied knots, faster then before. So, she was in this little group. Which meant two things. She would eventually have a place to rest for a bit, and the fact that she would have to stay in the same spot, with absolutely no area to retreat to. Well, she would. But that all depended if they gave her a little area to work on plans in peace. Which the better have, if they didn't want to die on those missions.

Note, ask for own area.

Colin nodded to Reg when she came back. "Welcome back boss-lady" He joked. He took a drink. They looked over the list once more. Not many left to interview. He was glad. He needed a looong nap. She handed him a burger. "Meh" he grumbled. He didnt mind cheeseburgers, but he really hoped their new chef would be a bit more creative.

"We dont yet?" he slumped in his seat and closed his eyes. He morphed into a reptillian humanoid creature called a Frovilid. He did this so he wouldnt hve eyelids. Much easier to stay awake when your eyes cant close. Although the large spikes and scales covering his entire body were hard to live with sometimes.

"We done yet?"

Colin had slumped in his seat, immediately transforming into a Frovilid. He only did that when he was really tired.

"I wish," Reggie said biting into her sandwich. The food would help keep her awake, for at least the last couple of interviews. Everything was moving along way to slow, much to her dismay. She just wanted to get this over with.

She needed to go for a run or something and then sleep for a good 10 hours. She could feel her body caving into the exhaustion and alcohol in her system. Maybe she should lay off the amber liquid, at least until they were done. A drunk Captain wasn't really a good start.

After finishing her sandwich, she pushed the plate back glad to have her stomach full. They just need a doctor and an engineer and they were done. Two more people. She slumped into her chair, feeling her eyelids droop closed.

If only she could morph into Frovilid and not have eyelids. This would be so much easier.

Arc listened as Eddie, Cassy and Minn introduced themselves as a pilot, scout and cook respectively. Her eyes glassed over as she stared nowhere in particular, absorbing the new information she had presented with. Arc then look back at them and beamed as if having a private joke with herself. It only took a second though for her to begin sharing her thoughts with her new crew mates.

“Well, by the looks of it I have found my two favourite people on this ship. Well, two of my top three favourite people, the Metamorphite over is in defiantly in my top three.” Arc said merrily while nodding and over to Colin. She had a particularly positive opinion on Metamorphites. She had seen enough of the universe and other species to know never to lump all species together. She couldn’t help it though, she had only ever met one Metamorphite which was a positive experience. Being able to turn into any other species excited her and was something she was slightly jealous of seeming as though she had lived on so many planets with so many different species.

“No offense Cassy, but Eddie here is controlling the my roof and Minn is giving me my meals, and well, those were the two reasons I took this job. So I only have a few requirements for you guys to know about. Eddie; try not to throw us around to much and please do your best to keep my roof firmly attached to the rest of the ship.” Arc said lightheartedly, her attention now back on the group.

“And you my friend,” Arc continued turning to face Minn while giggling slightly. “Everything will be great with me so long as you keep the food edible, yeah?” Arc said giving a wink towards the Shivari.

“Oh, and Cassy, don’t think I forgot you; all I want you to do is to not even consider complaining about weapons.” Arc said brightly. She was already excited about the prospect of leaving this planet; she was bored of it. She had been here a few months and decided there was nothing really here that piqued her interest.

"...Eddie; try not to throw us around to much and please do your best to keep my roof firmly attached to the rest of the ship.”

"I can't guaruntee anything if you guys put me in a bad mood," the new pilot teased with a laugh. It's not like he'd actually do something like that, but hey, they didn't know him yet. With another glance around the people at the table, he was definetly reminded that humans were not going to be the only thing on this trip. What with the squid eyes, the random slits on the girl's head and just about everything else there to prove it, human's were to be the minority on this trip comparing them to aliens.

However, this only slightly bugged Eddie. It wasn't that he was racist, but he just felt better if he was with more humans. So far, there were two besides him, both female. While he had no problem with this, he did long for a guy to hang out with. Odds are, none of the male members of the ship met the personality requirement that Eddie had for a fun person to talk to. Well, it couldn't be helped.

"...And don't doubt Minn." he added for no reason in general. "All I had to do was smell what she was cooking and I could tell it was delicious. On that note, let me remind you guys I called dibs on the first things she makes,"

Reggie felt her head collapse on the table. She was so bored. She groaned. Where was everybody. She noticed a few strange faces, that weren't regulars or her hired crew. Why weren't they coming up here and talking to them?

She sat up looking over her list. A doctor and an engineer. There were a couple of names under each category. And not one had come in to interview. She felt like she would hire the first one that came in for an interview, regardless of criteria. She just wanted to do something other than sit at this damn table.

She glanced at Colin, he was just as bored as her. He stared at the ceiling, not blinking, not moving. Just trying not to fall asleep.

Finally, with a huff, Reggie stood from her chair. "Alright everybody. We just need a doctor and an engineer and we're all set." She called, the chatter in the inn silencing to hear her.

"The sooner we get these interviews done, the better."

She sat back down, wishing she hadn't cut herself off from alcohol for the rest of the night. "Colin," She whined. "Entertain me!!"

Colin grumbled. Reg had asked him to entertain her... but he elected to ignore her. He had that priveledge. He grinned. First mate priveledges were great. So far they almost had a full crew. Just a few more interviews to go and he could hit the hay. He was about to say something to Reggie, but was interruped by a new face. A doctor. Colin smiled and ducked out of the way. This was her show, he could go bother someone else.

He changed from his reptillian appearance. I wasnt too pleasent for others to see, and he much prefered his human body. He grabbed a seat at the bar and ordered an alcoholic beverage. The bar keep gracefully obliged Colins thirst with a shot. Colin smiled an raised his glass to the man. He downd the small glass and placed it on the table. He smiled and dropped his head onto the bar. He was so tired.

"Is that all youve got?" came a sweet voice from the stool next to him. He raised an eyebrow and turned his head slowly. A beautiful human woman sat beside him with her own shot. She took it and placed it on the bar. He smiled. She did the same. "Lightweight."

Colin instantly perked up. No one questioned his drinking ability. No one! He ordered another shot for each of them. He eyed her as they took their shots. "not bad."

She held out a hand. "Juliet." she offered. he smiled and took her hand. "Colin." She left her seat and released his hand. "Good to meet you Colin, thanks for the drink." she left the bar, giving one last wave to him.

He chuckled and dropped to the counter. "I think I'm in love" he joked.

Cassandra, trying to focus on her knot trying, honestly couldn't She tucked the rope away and looked around. She didn't feel like joining the group of other people that had been hired. They were too far into their conversation. She considered going to visit Regina, but she as joined quickly by a new person, looking to join the ship. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair, which was turning orange from irritation. The only person who was left was that Metamorphite, who she was quite scared would ask for a handshake. Oh well. She could simply decline it and tell the truth. She stood, deciding to be brave and walk on over. She would have to be friends of sorts with these people...

"... in love," She heard only the end of what she was saying as she sat down next to him. "Hello. I take it you've been friends with Regina, er, Captain, a bit longer then the rest of us. What are you, Sied? Second in command?" She called him by 'sir' in her own language, saying she wasn't sure of his name. She arched an eyebrow, waiting for him to answer. "You can call me Cassandra." She added, hopefully he would catch on she wanted a name. A small smile played across her lips, and she stared at him. Her hair was turning a light green now. Calm.

I'm like one of those... What did humans call it? Mood rings.

A smile crossed Reggie's lips as Bond went to sit down. She was practically jumping up and down on the inside. They were done. They had gotten their crew, and her and Colin were now free from the confines of the Inn. Turning to the bar, where she had seen Colin retreat to, she spotted him talking with Cassandra. She didn't want to interrupt their conversation, but she had to tell him that they were finally done.

Stepping away from the table, she walked up to the bar, next to Colin, slamming her hand on the bar. The barkeep immediately filled a glass and slid it to her. She chugged it in one go and set the glass back down.

"Well Colin," She said to him, licking the liquid off her lips. "We've finally got everyone. We're finally free to do as we wish for the rest of the night." She signaled for another drink, not caring about what the alcohol would do for her tomorrow morning. She chugged it again, enjoying the feeling of the cold liquid running down her throat.

"Don't do anything crazy," She said winking at her second. "As for me, I'm going for a walk."

She nodded at the barkeep, grabbing her leather jacket from her chair, and exited the Inn. The sun had just set, twilight falling over the small planet. Reggie breathed in the fresh air, glad to be out of the inn. She walked, her body lurching slightly from her knee, but she enjoyed the feeling. The shots of pain were just a reminder that she was so much closer to finding her home. Earth.

To finding about her human history. The real story. Not what was written in the history books. Without realizing, Reggie had sprang into a run, enjoying the wind in her hair. She was so happy to be out that forsaken inn. She could run for miles, if it wasn't for the sudden shot of pain in her knee, leading straight up her back, causing her to stumble.

She sighed, slowing down back to a walk. Looking up at the stars, she couldn't help but be excited for tomorrow.

Reggie laughed. "It's alright." She said patting him on the back. "I hope I can assist you in finding your purpose. If not, than you'll just have to fly me around until we both croak."

She laughed. "We should head back. Big day tomorrow." She clapped her hands together with excitement. As they entered the inn, the conversations had continued to buzz, people were laughing, drinking.

She smiled. She liked the people they hired. If anything, she had a couple new drinking buddies besides Colin. Speaking of which. Reggie said goodnight to Eddie and head over to Colin. "Well, my second in command, I am retiring for the evening." She stated leaning against the bar counter.

"I'll see you tomorrow," She said good night to the rest of the crew still in the inn and finally climbed up the stairs. She was in room 1B, which she found easily. Her pack of few clothes sat opened on her bed, with clothes tossed left and right. She peeled off her jack and kicked off her boots, before stepping into the bathroom and turning on the shower.

After cleaning herself, and massaging the sores out of her knee, Reggie climbed into the small hotel bed. The sheets were a bit scratchy, but she was more tired than she had thought, thinking that her excitement would take priority over her need for sleep. But she managed to slip into unconsciousness rather quickly.

He wasnt sure if he had imagined her or not. he certainly hadnt imagined the shots. They left him buzzing, not drunk, but not exactly 100% either. He smiled at the memory. She was probably married and just looking to screw around with some bar guy. Colin chuckled at himself quietly without lifting his head. An then the thunder came down.

Reg slammed her hand on the table. "Dammit Reg" he groaned. She announced to him that they were done. "Thank god" he smiled and sat up. She took her leave shortly after, followed by their new pilot. Colin was going to leave but was interrupted by one of the crew members he had yet to meet. She was very colorful. He racked his brain. He had een this species before but couldnt remember why he had flagged it.

OH YEAH! He visibly reacted to his memory. He hadmet a xylamar once before on a different ship. This Xylamar wouldnt let Colin absorb him, but had never explained why. Colin let it go after that. He decided not to push the thought on this one either. It may come off as insulting.

He smiled as she asked her questions. "Yes," he stood, a bit lazily. "My name is Colin Seartjik. And I'll be the second for this voyage and any others captain has in store." he raised an eyebrow. "That alright with you Cassandra?"

Colin smiled while the woman left. he answered her qustion. "No, you dont have to call me captain." He gigged a bit. He might be drunker than he thought he was. He shrugged and tapped the bar. "Have a good night barkeep." He sloppily turned around and made his way to the rooms they had rented out.

-------

His eyes opened slowly. "Ugh"

He was hung over. Dammit. He threw the lumpy inn blanket off of him with a growl. Time to get up. He slid off the bed and nearly rolled across the floor to where he'd hung his Morphsuit. He slipped it on. Th spandex-like material hugged his skin tightly. He was still in his human form, but his hair was unruly and he had a bit of body odor. He changed into his true form, and then quickly changed back. Reseting the human to his clean, combed state. He smiled and left the room.

-------

He arrived back in the bar. the crew was already seated at the bar. Reg, Cassandra, Casseopiea, and Arc. He took a seat next to Reg. The amount of ketchup the woman used was unholy, but he was starving. He snatchd a bite of her hashbrowns before she was able to finish them. "Ready to set sail cap?"

"Could have been better, but I can't argue with sleeping in a nice bed." A quick laugh escaped Regina's lips, but then she continued on to ask the Xylamar a question. "How about yourself, Cassandra?"

"It was alright, I suppose. I haven't slept in a while, so it was nice, Nauar." Cassandra answered, before they were soon joined by a group of the other staff members. She drifted out of the conversation, looking at all of them as they continued to talk. And talk.

"Ready to set sail cap?" She looked back at Colin as he approached them and couldn't help but smile. She recalled the night before, and how drunk the Second in Command had been, and shook her head. But then again, she also was a bit excited for setting sail.

"Yes, are we?"
