Tess Brookes

You know, not all pretty girls care about Jimmy Choo and Prada

a character in “The Nightwing's Voyage”, as played by LifeAndDeath

Description

Image

Tess, like all of the Radvi, has a feature that expresses her element. The elements are earth, water, wind, light, shadow, and Tess's, fire. Her element is expressed through her red hair, which, like fire dances in the wind, and doesn't do well in water. Her eyes are an extremely light grey, almost white, not unlike ash at the bottom of a fire pit. Tess's eyes sort of blend in with her light skin.

Tess stands at a good 5'5, and weighs 98 lbs, which is a bit underweight. She thinks working in engines burns a lot of fat, considering how much hard work it is.

Tess's wardrobe consists of mostly overalls and combat boots, the outfit she wears to go work on the engines, but she also has a few other clothes. Nothing special, just some skinny jeans, tank tops, and a dress for fancy occasions.

Personality

Tess doesn't need designer clothes or make up to feel confident. The way she carries herself is enough. The way she portrays herself is "don't mess with me" She either walks with her arms crossed close to her chest, or hanging intimidatingly by her sides. Once you actually get to know Tess, and get past her hard shell of sarcastic comments and occasional curses, she is kind, and sweet. In that way she's sort of like an M&M. Hard on the outside, but sweet if you just are patient.

Equipment

((I don't know where to put her powers, so it's going in equipment XD))

Tess keeps a toolbox in her hand at all times, for work purposes. Besides that, she always keeps a knife in her pocket, just in case. All physical weapons aside, Tess also has that fire power we talked about before (remember?) It's nothing as extreme as a firestorm, or anything, but Tess can summon a flame the size of a small candle light in the palm of her hand.

History

Tess grew up in a Radvi town with her family, all of who's powers were fire, other than her brother, who's element was water. She always called him the odd one out, and he would remind her that water trumps fire.  They loved eachother in that  weird, sibling-ish way.

Tess discovered her knack for fixing things when she was in 4th grade, and her teacher's car wouldn't start, and he was letting the students try to fix it. Tess climbed under the car, and after 10 minutes of thumping, the car worked like a charm. Everyone was shocked at how easily she was willing to get black grease all over herself. Tess had found her passion.

So begins...

Tess swaggered into the bar, and plunked her money down. "A liquor, please," She took the time as they poured her drink to look at her surroundings. She almost immediately  found what she was looking for, a woman who looked like she was an interviewer. Once Tess's alcohol arrived, she took a swig, enjoying the warm feeling in her chest, and made her way over to the place where the interviewer sat. She took a nearby table, and sat as she waited her turned to be interviewed.

It would be a bit of an understatement to say that Weiss walked into the room. While the action itself did quite resemble the act of walking, the force behind it was far too great to have been a mere walk, but at the same time the resolve was not quite that of a march or a strut. It was what could be called, perhaps, a confident stride. A happy medium between the scornful pride of a march, and the utter carelessness of a walk.

His eyes immediately scanned the room, taking in the few lonely forms at the bar, and the mass of beings that had accumulated around a small group of tables. His destination, it seemed, was obvious. Setting his sights on the mass, he began to move towards it, albeit with a slight hesitation working its way into his stride. To be completely honest, Weiss was not sure if this was what he really wanted. Of course, it couldn't be worse than what he had at the moment. It had been ten years since the expiration of his commission with the last ship he had served on. What was it again, Shiva, Shinra. . . . Not that it mattered much, the name. What did matter was that since that time he had been wandering without purpose, satisfied to simply move from place to place selling his services to those who could afford them, and giving them away for free to those who couldn't. Humanity was scattered and broken, and any little bit he could do to help was worth it, or at least it had seemed that way at the time.

These days, his life felt so unfulfilling, and this mission stood the possibility of changing all of that. He couldn't pass it up, second thoughts be damned!

By now he was very close to the group, and seeing that Captain Oris was currently occupied, he glanced around for a place to bide his time. A young woman with striking red hair sitting alone nearby caught his eye, and he slid into a chair at the otherwise empty table. "Hello," he said, looking into her eyes, "I'm Doctor Weiss."

"Hello, I'm Dr. Weiss." The voice came abruptly, it's bold confidence scaring Tess a bit. She glanced up and saw a huge man, who quite honestly seemed intimidating, except for the kind look in his eyes. She decided on a heartbeat to trust him, even though her brain was screaming at her for being so easily trusting "The name's Tess." She took another swig of alcohol before offering up her hand as a sign of acquaintanceship, for better or for worse.

“It truly is a pleasure to make your acquaintance Miss Tess.” Weiss took her hand, a bit taken aback by the apparent frailty of it. As he shook it though, he felt a strength beyond all appearances, hidden just beneath the surface. “Am I correct in assuming that you are here regarding the upcoming expedition as well?”

He wasn’t sure why, but something in this young woman reminded Weiss of himself, in a strange and convoluted way. He decided on the spot that he quite liked her. Not that this was unusual, snap judgments were something that Weiss was in the habit of making. Only time would tell if the judgment was correct, but in this case Weiss found himself secretly hoping that it would be.

Inqueta was watching everyone as they came in for their interviews. She watched the failures, and felt Captain Oris's annoyance and disappointment. She understood that this had to have been extremely frustrating. She opened up her ears to listen to the conversations between Oris and Colin. It wasn't that she didn't like Colin, but she was already wary of him. He was a metamorphite, and undoubtedly, he would try to touch her, to be able to mimic her capabilities. She also listened to the conversations Oris had with everyone that was interviewed. A man named Eddie was to be their pilot. Captain Oris seemed to liked him well enough, and his files looked good. Inque nodded, satisfied with who was going to be flying the ship. Next came the cook. She was a beautiful girl with a look of determination on her face. Her red hair matched her gorgeous rosey skin. The food Minn had prepared looked delicious, and Inque's mouth watered enviously as she watched Oris eat them. The girl was a Shar, and seemed pretty harmless. The blue girl's suspicions of Colin proved to be right when he shook the cute girl's hand. His skin turned the same shade of red as hers was when he turned into a Shar. Inqueta watched him walk back over to the Captain.

A Tourain stood by the captain, and no sooner than Inque saw him, Colin had changed into his own form of one. She didn't have to open her ears more to listen to him speak. In fact, she closed a few of the micro-slits, because his voice was booming. Captain Oris seemed impressed with him, so Inqueta didn't feel the need to pay attention anymore. She directed her focus to a red-headed girl and a man who had just introduced himself as Dr. Weiss. She assumed he was there for the position of doctor, but she wasn't sure if the girl was there to apply or not. She assumed, once again, that she was, just because the bar was pretty much empty of anyone else. She made a small clicking noise with her tongue and slid from the booth she had been hiding in. She silently made her way up to the Captain's table, knowing no one could hear her. If they weren't too engaged with the Tourain, named Val Salah As Tallan, they might have seen her, considering she made her skin blue as she walked over there. She intended to stay a few steps away, close enough to make her presence known, but far enough to give them space and not be rude, interrupting Val's interview. She practiced what she would say in her head.
