The Outside

They were locked up like animals, forced to be changed into something they never thought was possible. Can't be continued, but read if you wish! {^-^}

10,320 readers have visited The Outside since yogitheambrangyl created it.

Introduction

If you base a roleplay off of this, I don't mind, just give me some credit? Thanks! {^-^}

Back Story

We were all locked away like animals. Forced to live in cages or small rooms that kept us weak and scared. We learned to live in fear; it was our way of life in order to stay alive.
Image
Some of us were normal, regular people like on the outside, and captured for no reason and forced to change. To become something we never dreamed would be possible to become.

The Lab was exactly that, a lab. No one knows its name because officially it doesn't exist. They took people, random people they knew the world wouldn't miss or those who had happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. They would take them in and do experiments, some would involve elements like fire, shadow and water. Others would include animals and lastly the senses. Depending on how old the subject was, determined the severity of the experiments.
Image
Everyone was put through tests to determine how much their bodies could take, how far they could push the muscles to work, what could their minds take. It was all tested, and not everyone could get through it.
A lot would die from the tests, from the beatings given by the guards, or from The Games. The horrible 'games' that all the guards put the subjects through. Two elementals and two animals put in one large, several mile long pit in the ground. Set loose on each other to fight to the death, for the entertainment of the staff.

History

Every government has their secretes. Some are kept longer than others, that didn’t start out as secretes. All of us have heard of the crazy experiments that were done during the holocaust. One that has been forgotten was the experimentation to create mutants to the government’s advantage. The Germans (Nazis) started their testing and sent mutants to keep control and tear down the areas that resisted. The U.S. wanted to have the upper hand and countered with their own experimentation, but only using willing volunteers, wounded military personnel, and criminals sentenced for death. During this time, the Lab split off into two groups. The Lab was searching for more, using harsher methods and using healthier people, and obtaining them against their will. This method gave them better results, with stronger and more submissive subjects, despite the downgrade in methods and with almost torturous testing. The Institution continued with using criminals and the volunteers as a way to keep the more humanistic part of the subject intact.
After the days of war were ended, the experimentation was supposedly stopped, due to the unfavorable effects on the volunteers. The minds of the people were slowly deteriorating, the people slowly going insane or become more animalistic. At the time, the Institution had not stated that their subjects still contained their normal sentient thoughts. All areas were shut down and left to become myths in the history books.
No one on the outside knows of these still fully functional facilities and believes mutants are the creatures of fantasy. Yet these groups still rival each other and are trying to gain control of the mutants for their own unknown purposes.

The Roleplay

Ok now to the roleplay. If any of you want a more detailed explanation of the Lab you can look at the last roleplay I created titled The Lab.

At the beginning we have all just escaped the Lab, or have been blown out of the building by the bomb (read the last page of posts in The Lab). We have been in captivity most of our lives, we have not seen the sunlight, we don't know about plants, animals, nature or people in general. We have lived life in fear and don't know any other way to live. Almost everyone will be jumping at any sound, flinching at any movement. It depends on what has been done to your character in the past.

The guards and scientists were inhumane; they did not care about your feelings, or your pain. They just wanted to see how much you could take and not die. We all live in fear that any person we see is going to hurt us. We have to learn how to live on our own. Use you collective abilities to be able to get what we need without getting yourselves caught again, or letting the 'Normals' learn too much.

The Institution is also looking for us. They have their own successful mutants, which are loyal to the Institution and will hunt you down to please their masters. None of us know about this rival group and all we know is that we are being hunted.

The regular people on the outside know nothing of what has happened and any mutation they see,(like most of us would) they will tell someone and then we will have the normal government after us.

Updates

So far a lot has been happening for you who don’t regularly read. It starts out with all of the mutants scattered about inside and outside the Lab after the previously mentioned explosion has happened. A few of them have been injured and so the smartest (Ash) and the newest (Dusk) mutants get the ones out in the open to the hospital. On the way there, dusk gets separated and is given a warning by Camelion that the Institution is looking for them. The others have made it to the hospital where things are getting hectic because of the mutant’s natural fear of the color white and of course, needles. One of the Institution’s animals kills Darius as he gets left behind. Matt gets stopped on the road by a human who ends up heading into the woods after a calico cat tells her to. Kinarie, one of the flying mutants, fallows her and they end up mauled by the hounds from the Lab. Matt also gets confronted by Camelion and ends up at the hospital. Dusk, Faith, and Nudge end up taken back to the Lab by the head guard, Eriyk. Amp/Blast, Matt, Ash, Fang and Emvee all get captured by the Institution. Meanwhile, two mutants have sprung up from the rubble of the Lab before it has been cleared off. Splitface has climbed out of the rubble and went fallowing the blood trails. He was being followed by Vas, while his brother Stef helped Eriyk capture the mutants for the Lab. The other mutant who climbed out of the rubble is Micheal, and he has made his way over to the hospital where he has been stopped by Sergie. Kyra, a tiger mutant, has been memory swiped by Kishan. She is now hunting down the mutants she called friends. Caine, the director of the Institution has taken the ones he captured back and Camelion has started his interrogation on Matt and Ash. Jarek has been given charge of Emvee and fang to take care of to determine his level of torture ability. While back at the Lab, the director, Carmine, has started her interrogation on Dusk, while Nathan, one of dusk old boyfriends, is in the torture room and learning the proper way to interrogate a mutant. While all of this has been going on, of course the normal government is going to have some kind of reaction. A detective and his son are trying to learn more about both organizations. Unfortunately for the good detective and his son Lloyd, is that Com and Lucy, Lloyd’s siblings have been captured by the Lab as well.

More action has happened! Atleast people are interacting with eachother as they should be. Aramay, a new mutant, woke up in the middle of her experiment, the sedative not porperly dosed to keep her knocked out the whole time. Dusk went to the Healer's Quarters after her interrogation and only stayed there a short time to go look for Nudge and Faith. They have woken up from their sedatives and are helping to protect Dusk from the guards Eli and Jason, and the faux guard Kamen. Kishan attempted to knock Kamen unconscious which led to him escaping with a letter for the "Queen of Spades". Meanwhile, back at the Insitution, Camelion gave Ash and electric shock treatment, removing her namesake mutation.

Action, action, action. Lots of things have happened these past few weeks. At the Institution, Amp/Blast was brought in to use as leverage against Matt and Ash, Camelion hoping to get information out of someone. Unfortunately, the information didn’t come as Maya and Daren found them all and attempted to free Matt, Ash and Amp/Blast. While this is going on, back at the Lab, Dusk, Nudge, and Faith were attempting to escape by the help of Jason. Regretfully, Jason returned home and shot himself. The rest of the mutants were thrown back into cells by Nathan. At Carmine’s office, she talked with Peter about finding Micheal. Her next visitor was the assassin Gabriel, who requested the files of all the mutants at the previously destroyed northern facility and back ground checks on all the workers.

Wow, so much has happened and I haven’t put up an update paragraph. Well, here it goes I hope I hit everything. At the Institution Daren and Maya have successfully gotten Matt, Ash, and Amp/Blast out and are on their way to an apartment that Daren inherited a several years back. Because of his failure, Camelion made himself leave the Institution so as not to be dissected alive. Back at the Lab, Carmine also met with Kishan and Kyra about a special project their keeper is working on. After that Camelion had managed to make his way to the Lab and requested to work for Carmine in exchange for bringing one of the Institutions creations back to the Lab. She accepted and let him rest while she met with Robert Wagner on what his plans were for finding the escaped mutants. He told Carmine that he had a mutant named Vincent working for him to find the other mutants if any at all managed to find him. She sent him on his way to where Eriyk and Gabriel have started in a little friendly feud. While all of these meetings have been going on, Aramay and Dusk got entered into one of the Lab’s tests, a labyrinth. Aramay dropped from dehydration and Dusk ended up finishing but is being defiant and refusing to move. A guard has gone to the sleeping Camelion and mistakenly woke him up from his slumber. Where will this go from here I wonder?

Seems I have fallen behind here, so much has happened that I have forgotten to write it all down. Let’s see…Gabriel and Eriyk finished their spar and afterwards, went to go take care of all the left over mutants that were left around town. After Camelion destroyed the mind of the guard who woke him, he went with Carmine to go punish Dusk, making her think that Amp had been captured and that her other friends were also being tortured. She was then sent to the healers, and after Kyra and Aramay tried to escape with her, Dusk was put into a cell, Aramay had been shot then stuck in a cell, and lastly Kyra was put into the Games. Kyra was put into the Games arena and in her tiger form, killed a Hound, Faith and a young feline mutant. Meanwhile, the mutant Caylx has been a testing room, the scientist trying to make her overcome her fears. Camelion has found the fox mutant, Elle, and seems to have taken her under his wing. Lastly, because the winged mutant faith was killed in the Games, a new girl, Aria has been kidnapped and changed. That should be it for now! Keep checking in and reading for those of you who follow!

Check in for now regular additions to this little summary.

Flashback

Everything was normal, at least as normal as it could get inside a lab with mutants screams and cries filling the hallways.

To outsiders this place would seem like hell and to most inside The Lab, know it is hell. Scientists coming to shove a needle into your arm and just watch to see what will happen. Or guards coming to beat on you for something you couldn’t have possibly done. This was the daily life of the mutants and it didn’t look like things were about to change. But things were being set into motion by an experiment that they thought they didn’t need to worry about as long as the subject had enough medication pumped through their system.

In almost a split second, everything changed for the worst, or maybe for the better. The Lab had put on its precaution barriers, making a maze throughout the entire place. But in the process, electricity was cut, mutants freed and they started to help each other, pull their abilities and skills together to get each other outside as quick as they could.

As they got out, the building they had lived their lives had been blown apart by a bomb that was placed somewhere within the compound. The mutants worked together and created a barrier so they weren’t hurt by the falling debris of the use to be building. Almost no one could believe it, they torturous place was no destroyed, they had been freed by an explosion and now…..what were they supposed to do?
Everyone with too many fears to be sane, and no real experience of the outside is supposed to survive there. How well will they do?

Amp

Amp stared at the flames of the burning building in front of him and was just pain speechless. Almost all of his memories were of that building, of the dreadful people inside and all that had happened to him while he was there. Now that place was gone, burning to the ground, but he could still feel the part of him that was scared. It was the way he had lived his whole life after all, and habits are hard to break.
He glanced around at all the mutants that had made it out of the building before the bomb went off. Most of them were those he knew, dusk, the new girl who he still hadn’t figured out completely, Ash and the other boy Matt who seemed to be family, or at least acted like they were. Then Nudge who seemed still very weak from his time trying to get them all out even though he looked like he could barely help himself.

He decided that just standing there was not going to get anything done; he knew they were going to need to learn a lot to be able to survive on their own. At the Lab, despite how cheap, flimsy, or unsanitary everything was, they were all taken care of, to an extent. Here they had absolutely no one, and he wasn’t sure who would help them get what they needed. He didn’t want to trust anyone, there was always the possibility that trusting someone got you hurt or worse.
He plopped himself down on the floor, feeling the softness of the ground on his bare feet. The green was softer than anything he had felt before, and the large things coming out of the ground were magnificent. He didn’t have a name for them yet but all he saw was that they were huge and that they also had some green on them. All though the green looked different than the green he was currently wriggling his toes through.

He frowned a little as a sharp pain seared up through his shoulder. He brought his hand up and rubbed his shoulder the tiniest bit. The pain intensified and he stopped touching it. The still had the bullet wound in his shoulder and it was still bleeding slowly. It was now starting to bother him and he didn’t know what he should do about it. He had felt worse before and he had been beaten nearly dead several times. A small bullet was nothing.

Blast

Blast just watched from the sidelines, he had no reason to be in control now. His main job was done and so he didn’t need to be making sure that Amp wasn’t going to get himself into trouble. How much could get into anyway? The main place to get hurt was burning to ground as he was thinking and so there was barely anything that would happen to Amp.

He had almost his entire mind space to himself, he was a little restless after running from guards and making sure he didn’t die. So instead he found something better to do with his time and pent up energy. He pushed his mind out farther, he couldn’t be sensed but he could hear what was going on in people’s heads. And he didn’t want to stay in Amp’s head because all the thoughts were tinged with admiration and aaww. So instead he decided that he would take a little trip to another person.

He spent some time jumping from person to person, seeing what their reactions were and what they could possibly contribute to keeping them all alive. He had a better understanding than Amp did of people needing supplies to get what they needed and he made a mental note that he needed to teach Amp some things about survival. He did know the most about it because that was his job. To help Amp when it was necessary and when it was essential for him to take control to make sure that Amp was out of harm’s way.

He found that Jumping around was tiring work, he had never done it before but it caused him to lose energy a lot faster than he was used to. He stopped after the third or fourth person and returned back to his own mind, then just fell asleep. He didn’t have too much of a fascination with the new world around him. It was more like he didn’t want to know because he didn’t need to know. At the moment there wasn’t anything threatening about the outside, or the people around. This gave him a chance to finally relax and not care so much.

Dusk
Image

Dusk actually could not believe she was outside, and uninjured for that matter. So many others had either not made it or at least been forced to deal with the pain of new found injuries. For this she felt partially guilty, not knowing how much she had actually helped. Truthfully not much. Her apparent "mutation" wasn't exactly the type to help fight or escape. She sighed quietly, she wasn't sure she would be much help out here either.
She pushed the thoughts away. They were out. No more would she have to worry about exactly what was going to happen, once again she was out of their world and back in her own. She bit her lip, perhaps she wouldn't be so useless after all, from the sounds of things, everyone else had no idea of the outside. She considered heading back to her village, before abandoning the idea. Doing that would probably ensure capture, and if not that half of them in either the prison's or loony bins. She doubted the rest of them would know much about behaviour in public, so probably best to stay clear of that. Unless...perhaps if she could convince the rest to stay up somewhere, while she got basic necessities and then started off to find somewhere they could call there own. In all honesty, she had lost hope that she would ever be able to live normally.
She glanced over at the rest of the group, before Amp/Blast caught her eye. She wasn't entirely sure how she felt about Amp. Blast was like a friend...but Amp was more gentle and more...different. She scoffed at her own inability to express her own feelings considering she could feel everyone else's. Currently she had her small barrier in place to give people more privacy from her rather obtrusive "gift". Even with the barrier in, a small spike jabbed into the barrier continuously, until Dusk couldn't help but see what it was. She let down her barrier enough to feel a small stab of pain emanating from Amp. Opening up further, gritting her teeth as she did so, Dusk figured out the location of the pain, and moved over to Amp.
She briefly remembered in the turmoil of getting out, trying to stop the bleeding, but there had been so much that had been going on the memory was vague.
"You should have the bullet removed you know" she said gently "I am not sure we can do much now, but wrapping it up is probably the best"
She glanced up at him, trying to figure out if he was Blast or Amp currently.
"Amp? Is it you or Blast at the moment?" she said quietly, still a little perturbed about two people in one body. The first time he had told her she couldn't swallow it quickly, though the bluntness of his explanation convinced her.
"I never had time to thank you properly for everything" She reached up self-consciously and fingered the shock collar which, though off thanks to Blast, still remained firmly on her neck. "I don't suppose you can completely remove it now that it won't alert the stupid guards"

For a long while, she didn't even look up, she just kept her head down staring at her tattered lab clothes -- a hospital type dress. Her eyes were locked on her arms, beaten, red and inflamed. She slowly began examining her toes, dirty, filthy and a bruise on her shin. Her hand reached for Nudge's for comfort and she finally got the strength to look up...

Faith squinted against the bright burning flames as the building continued to burn. She stared at the grass, moving her toes back and forth on it and she giggled -- it tickled. A loud 'KAW' is heard from above and Faith looks up instantly, crouching a bit as a creature with wings flew by.

Spreading her own wings she recognizes the similarity between her and the creature and she smiles, folding her wings back in. For years she'd only seen pictures of the outside in the White Coat's offices and now she was in it. Emotions were flooding in, sadness, fear and happiness that the torture was over. What fascinated her most was the colors of this world, green grass, blue skies, purple flowers, and the bright red flames that danced up to the sky.

She looks towards the other mutants, her eyes drifting among each and every one, mangy, dirty, tired, some bloodied up from the fight.

"We're... Free..." She says quietly, the first words she's spoken in over 4 years, her voice was raspy, and the words danced in her head.

We. Are. Free.

Free to live. Free from needles, free from ---

She suddenly becomes shaky, realizing yes they were free but they had no where to go. What if people didn't accept them? She squeezes onto Nudge's hand a bit -- unknowingly of course -- and resorts back to looking down at the ground.

Matt
Matt coughed back into reality from a deep, troubled sleep fogged only by the pain in his left shoulder. Shadows wrapped around him as he opened his eyes, telling him it was still daytime. Even in that deep shade, light got to him and made his head pound. He could hardly remember anything after Kyra had brought him back, except Ash panicking and being dragged into a hidden section of the forest.
That's when it hit him: He was Outside. Truly Outside, not a little excursion into the woods to talk with Ash or get wood for his carvings. Not taking Kyra to hunt something that wasn't given her. For real, and hopefully forever, Outside. Despite the pain in his arm, a pain that practically made the limb go numb, it was beautiful. The grass was so soft!! If only he were the little kid his memories still vaguely described... Then he could have truly enjoyed it. He would have leaped into the trees and climbed as high as he could before the branches snapped beneath his weight, rolled in the grass in a tackle of his "sister", passed out in the sun for the pure enjoyment of it.
Unfortunately, the damned wound decided to remind him of reality: He had been taken, been forced to kill his mother, and ultimately Changed. he couldn't go back...... Deep purple fire leapt up within his confining circle of shadows, and he quickly regained his composure, as Ash ran over to check on him, having sensed the flames.

Ash
*Flashback*Ash tensed slightly as the bomb went off, and tensed more as the resulting wave of flame rushed toward them. It shot straight up as she trembled in Nudge's arms, instinctively and desprately trying to protect everyone. She blinked in surprise; she did not know until right then whether or not she could still control flame or wind, the way she did her namesake. She was deeply thankful she could; they would have been roasted if that weren't the case.... She then proceeded to usher everyone deeper into the woods, painfully aware of how broken everyone was, and how much she would have to play teacher over the next weeks, maybe even months. She grabbed Matt's collar, dragging him behind the others.
Almost as soon as she did so, she twitched at the slight feeling on the breeze of someone watching them. Cold, unfriendly, reptillian eyes that bore into even her hard to read mind....

Camelion
Caine glowered, watching the creature being created below scream and thrash. The skin appeared scaly for a moment, its eyes opened. Then it went still. "Shit, not again," the scientist to his left muttered, about to pull a switch that would fully kill the thing. Caine raised his hand, stopping the fool.
"Not yet, let's see if it'll come back..." He murmured, without removing his gaze from the glass. A good five minutes passed before the creature twitched. Then the restraints exploded, some hitting the glass and threatening to shatter it. The creature sat up, looked at the man with his hand on the switch, and ripped away from the series of wires and tubes, stalking over. He leaped halfway up the wall, clawed hands landing with a low thud, followed by dozens more as it climbed. It's face shown with pure hatred, eyes glowing deep pewter as it punched through the dent the shattered metal had made, and forced his way into the control room. "How darrrre you,"it hissed, rolling its slitted tongue, "How darrre you try to kill me?" He (for certainly it was male, Caine averted his eyes to both the gory scene and the fact this new monster did not wear clothes yet,) grabbed the scientist by the throat, turning into a beautiful woman, one Caine knew as the fool's wife, before ripping his head clean off. He killed everyone in the room, except Caine, who smiled.
"Now then, are you quite finished with that tantrum of yours?" The creature grabbed him by the throat as he had the others, twitched at some memory he saw, and set him back down. "You stopped them," He said simply. Caine nodded.
"You now owe me your life. The Lab, as you know, has been destroyed. I want you to find out if any have escaped, and bring them here." He chuckled darkly, walking out of the room and leaving the door wide open. Camelion growled; he hated these people, but he did owe the man his life. He followed, caught the clothing that was thrown at him and stared at it for a while, before realizing what the cloth was and putting it on. Then he took off, out the nearest window and into the woods. He ran through the trees, not once making a sound for the hours, days he moved. He looked up at the flames of the burning lab and laughed softly to himself. He was close. He tilted his head toward the deep foliage as a group of young kids ran in. Several were wounded, and he smiled more, moving closer. This would be a fun game........

Kyra was leaning against a tree, in her tiger form. She was still dizzy from healing Matt and wasn't so sure she should be moving around. She glanced around, making sure everyone was okay. Her gaze landed on Dusk and Amp first, quickly realizing one of them was was hurt from how they smelled. It wasn't that hard to pick up Amp's blood scent among the others. She knew how Amp smelled and how Dusk smelled, even when they weren't hurt. Most humans would think that would be sort of stalker-like but to Kyra it meant survival. She glanced at Matt, then Nudge and even Ash, the little girl Kyra didn't really like, because she reminded her of her past.

Kyra started to move, very ungracefully which was totally unlike Kyra. Her eyes were on Dusk and Amp, determined to get to them without falling over. Which was a little over the top, because half way there she tripped over her own paws and fell. Tired and weak from blood loss Kyra struggled to get to her paws, but she did it. She got to them, turned around and laid down beside them. Her massive body length had her almost curled up around both of them. Her head was near Dusk's knee and her haunches were beside Amp's opposite knee. Almost instinctively Kyra started to purr. She knew that she promised she wouldn't purr anymore but it seemed to comfort her a little. They all needed comfort at a time like this, because it was over. The lab was finished, gone, erased. She wasn't so sure what to think anymore but she did know wherever Amp and Dusk went, she would follow.

Ash
Ash shivered a little; she couldn't lose the sense that something was watching her and the others. She couldn't sit still any longer. She stood, and looked up at the sky, still black from the smoke. They needed supplies, food. Kyra wasn't in any condition to hunt, and everyone was afraid. She didn't have the time to teach any of them which plants around were poisonous, or how to use a weapon for hunting purposes. There was also the chance that even if she did, they wouldn't use it. Even for hunting. Each and every one of them had seen or killed at least one person in the labs horrible Games. Many of them were as afraid of death and pain as they were of the Outside, and everything thet didn't know. It made her head hurt thinking about it. She sighed, and watched the sky, wishing desprately that no one from the nearby town would come to investigate. The people were nice, but that was with said people under the impression that she was as normal as they were. If they found out they weren't like them, it would be that much easier for anyone like the lab to find them, and drag them back into cages. She shuddered at the thought, and stood up. "I'll be back in an hour. If anyone comes, you keep down, don't let anyone see you. Especially you Kyra, I'm sorry but if a hiker sees you, he'll immediately call someone. We don't want that, not ever, do you understand?" She glanced around again before grabbing her bow and disappearing into the trees without a sound. She watched everything around her, picking small plants and herbs, keeping her bow close to her, an arrow ready in her hand. She twitched and smiled as a deer walked cautiously closer to her. Don't look at me, sweetheart.... don't see me, just.... She let the arrow loose as the deer bowed its head to eat. It crumpled as the shot hit home between its eyes, and Ash moved close, petting it a little before removing the arrow. My friends and I thank you, friend... She closed the creature's eyes as she dragged it into a hiding place away from possible predators, and sat quietly in the bushes, waiting for something else to come by. She frowned as a half hour passed, and stood with a soft sigh. She picked up her deer, and the few other kills she made, wrapping up the herbs in a scrap from her shirt, and started heading back.

Amp

Amp was staring at the flames dancing into the air in front of him. He hadn’t seen fire very much in his life and he was fascinated that this fire at the moment was just burning the building; it was giving off heat and burning brightly. Instead of the fires he normally saw in the Games, a fire aimed towards killing and making the target burn slowly to death. The guards seemed to like that, when one of the subjects was dying a slow death that they didn’t deserve. He shuddered; he hated those memories and anything that brought them up.

He was glad that movement from somewhere brought him out of his thoughts and back to what was happening around him. He turned his head slightly just so he could see what was going on. He saw Dusk coming closer to him. He seemed worried and she glanced at his shoulder. The blood was slowly soaking his shirt, turning the faded grey a dark crimson.
"You should have the bullet removed you know. I am not sure we can do much now, but wrapping it up is probably the best" He glanced at his shoulder and nodded, it was throbbing a little and it was starting to bother him. He pulled off his shirt so he could tear of strips of the cloth to use to tie up his shoulder. His torso was skinny, to say the least, he had been mostly starved for most of his life so his bones could be seen through his thin and pale skin. Though it wasn’t drastic, he had some muscle from his time in the Games and making sure he kept himself guarded somewhat from the guards.

He started tearing off strips from the bottom of his shirt. He glanced up at dusk, she was looking at him closely. Amp met her green eyes with his own pale blue ones. He thought maybe she was looking for something but his wondering was answered when she kept speaking. "Amp? Is it you or Blast at the moment?" She spoke softly as if she didn’t want to offend him, or that she didn’t want to be wrong on which one of them it was. He nodded slightly, he wasn’t the one to smile, he might’ve once but there wasn’t much to smile for anymore and so he never did. ”I’m Amp...” He spoke softly, he still wasn’t used to it and he still wondered how Blast did so, so openly.

"I never had time to thank you properly for everything. I don't suppose you can completely remove it now that it won't alert the stupid guards" He finished loosely putting the strips of cloth around his shoulder and glanced at her. She was messing with the collar still around her neck; he remembered that they had put that on her so she didn’t run off. Blast had shorted it out and turned it off, rendering it incapable of hurting her any longer.
He didn’t like when people were hurt so much. No one ever did anything yet all the guards and scientists seemed to want to hurt them all so much. ”You don’t need to thank me.......” He had never been thanked for anything in his life, as far as he could remember. It was new and he wasn’t entirely sure what it meant. ”Blast can take it off for you....."

Blast

Blast stopped listening to what was going on in the others minds when Amp noticed Dusk, therefore he did as well. He saw what Amp saw, which wasn’t much since he was focused on getting his shoulder bandaged. ”We’ve been through so much worse, why bother with it? I’m sure it will be fine after a while.” He was only partially trying to annoy Amp. He tried his best to get some emotion out of the kid, but when wills to live are broken, it’s really hard to them back to even semi-reality. He wasn’t sure he was even making any progress anymore. At least he was talking somewhat. "Dusk said it would be best..." Blast mentally rolled his eyes since he wasn’t in control to actually do it. He was actually glad that someone got Amp to think about caring about himself.

He missed most of what Amp and Dusk were saying so he was almost taken off guard when Amp started asking him questions. "Dusk still has the collar on.....can you take it off...? I still don’t know how to do the stuff you do...." Blast sighed mentally. "I really need to teach you don’t I? Remind me later and we can start." Amp gave him a mental nod and backed off for him to take control.

On the outside there would be a slight difference that would have made the change noticeable. He seemed to sit a bit straighter, like he was more confident and not as scared of the things around him. His eyes slowly started from the pale blue, turning to dark ocean blue. He smiled at Dusk, it was as close to a charming boy smile he would get to. ”I can definitely help you get that off.” He moved closer and took the collar in one hand and whistled softly, the note becoming something only he could see. Even though he stopped the whistle, the note seemed to bounce around inside the collar for a few more seconds and it fell apart in his hands. With a nod he got up and chucked it back towards the flames of the burning building.

He plopped back down next to dusk and looked over at her. ”Feel better now? He knew how those collars where and they were so irritable. He remembered that for the first several months when he came that he had to have one on all the time. Though it wasn’t for the same reason, he had been trying to tear down the building and the collar kept him from making any noise. Unfortunately they had also found out he could any sound so kept him isolated most of the time.

He looked down at Kyra as she came and lay down in front of both of them. She was so huge and the fur was soft, he hadn’t had the time to notice before but he liked the fur and glad she was there. She started purring and he blinked, he hadn’t heard that sound before and he stared at Kyra, figuring out how and where the sound was coming from. He rest his hand gently in the mass of fur and ran his hand across it.

Half asleep. That was the best time for Nudge. Those few numb moments between the pain of his waking hours and the terror of his nightmares. It was no surprise that he was tired, he had probably drained himself completely at least three times over within the last few hours. He had never used his powers that much before, there had never been a reason to. All he had done before was tried to keep the guards away from him. His attempt had always been unsuccessful though, they always got him in the end. And then came the real pain, made all the worse because he had tried to prevent it.

But that was over now, right? There were no more guards, or scientists, were there? No, that was over...but what now? he was Outside now, that much he knew. He was away from the tests, the pain...and he wasn't on his own. No, there were others as well. he had always known that there had been others, but he had been on his own for a long time. He only knew the others existed though their minds, and the sound of their screams. Now...well, he didn't know what to make of it.Not only had he discovered that there were others like him, he had actually helped in their escape. He had been useful. That was a new feeling for Nudge, feeling like he had helped. Then again, that wasn't surprising, considering the only emotions he had experienced before had been fear, pain and the incredible lonliness that his damaged mind caused.

He was about to drift off when he felt a slight pressure on his hand. Looking up, blue eyes blinking in confusion, he saw the dark-haired winged girl next to him. 'Faith', his mind reminded him of her name. He had known Faith before, right? Before he had been damaged? Yes, that was right, they had been close, like the way Ash and Matt were. Though Nudge didn't know what to call that. Then the experiment that had broken him, and then the isolation, his powers too unstable to predict or control. He remembered though, how much she had trusted him. As much as he trusted her. He couldn't tell her that now though, and for the millionth time, he hated that they had damaged him so much. That they had taken his voice, though by this point he didn't even remember what it sounded like. Maybe Faith remembered? He had spoken to her before, really spoken, not through his mind, like what he was reduced to now.

The pressure on his hand increased, and Faith started to shake, staring down at the ground like she wasn't even sure it was there. Nudge understood her fear, he felt it himself, as well as feeling hers in his mind.
Faith okay? Nudge know Faith scare. But is okay. Nudge scare too. Faith, Nudge, all okay though. All okay. All Outside. No more pain. No more Black-men. No more White-coats. No more scare, kay?, he sent to her, returning the pressure onto her hand, his long, thin fingers weaving though hers. He didn't know how he knew to do that though, it was just something that happened. He liked it though, it was...nice? Was that the right word? He had heard it before, about something that wasn't pain, so he assumed it meant the opposite. 'Nice'. A new word. One that had a meaning to him, not just something he had heard. A new word for a new feeling. Another new word, one that Ash had told him. 'Free'. That meant something as well. That's what they were now. They were Free now.

But where from here? She knew that this couldn't be the end of it, something bad would always be lurking around the corner for she knew from experience there were more labs than just this one. What if another was contacted? She knew they had to lie low for a while... She remembered the chip in her arm, and she slowly became paranoid that it was a tracking device... What if the Lab in London found out she was free? They'd send people after her -- she was sure of it...

As the thoughts raced through her mind, some words floated in, Faith okay? Nudge know Faith scare. But is okay. Nudge scare too. Faith, Nudge, all okay though. All okay. All Outside. No more pain. No more Black-men. No more White-coats. No more scare, kay?

The words comforted her and she gave a tired smile with a nod, "All okay...Faith and Nudge are safe for now..." She says to him as his fingers intertwined with his. She was reassured by Nudge being okay, that's all that mattered in her mind. Of course she cared for the other mutants but none of them were as close to her as Nudge was. Even during their separation he'd never really left her mind, she had tried multiple times to transport to his room but she had always gotten caught and punished severely for the consequences. Her eyes drifted over to their pale fingers intertwined and was brought back suddenly to when Hope and her held hands for the last time.

"Faith... Don't let them take me..." She begged and Faith held onto her hand, until the guards yanked Faith back and Hope was dragged to the table...

Snap out of it, Faith. She scowls at herself and shakes her head a bit, her hair falling in her face.

Nudge saw Faith's memories as though they were his own and, though the emotions in those memories were odd to him, aside from the fear of course, he knew that it was a bad memory for the other girl.

So instead he gave her another image, the one Ash had shown him before, when he had first asked about the Outside. The one he liked best, the image of the stars above a calm ocean. He didn't know what 'stars' or 'ocean' was, he saw it as 'flickery lights over wavy stuff', but he liked the picture. It calmed him down, and he hoped it would do the same for Faith.
Sending the image to her, he reached over with his other hand (since his right was entwined in Faith's and besides, he couldn't really move that arm anyway) and lightly brushed her dark hair, so similar to his, away from her face, though it fell back into place as soon as he took his hand away. His own had done that as well, when Ash had done that to him after he had got the doors open. After he had almost drained himself completely the first time.

No more bad thought Faith. Bad thought make Faith sad. Faith sad make Nudge sad. Nudge want make bad thought gone so Faith not sad. Can do that?, he 'asked', worried about his...what was the word? 'Friend'? That was it, he had called Ash his friend too. He still wasn't entirely sure what the word meant though, but it would do for now, Until he thought of something better.

Matt
Matt sat up slowly at hearing Ash leave, saying she had to get supplies and food. Pain shoved its way through every nerve in his body; he bit the inside of his lip so as not to cry out. Ash not being where he could see her made him worry even more. She wasn't as strong, or as whole, as she made herself to be. Even hunting for the others might set her off, which was almost as dangerous as a hiker finding them. Or someone else... He felt something cold, similar to how he felt with all the cameras back in the lab. They were being watched; something was looking for them, what they could do. Those eyes didn't feel friendly. It was a lot like the rage-hunger he had felt when he was put up against Kyra in the Games. He watched the protective tigress, wrapped around Dusk and the sound kid, he wasn't sure whether it was Amp or Blast at the moment. Then he turned his attention to Nudge, and a small child he didn't remember being with them when they ran out. He had seen her before, but couldn't place her. Nudge seemed to like her, trust her. They looked almost like a younger version of him and Ash. He smiled a little; before long, Ash would be back, and would start teaching them. He would help when he could, but he only knew a little about the woods. He couldn't remember much about 'towns' or the 'ocean.' They were as foreign to him as many of the others here. That word made him frown, looking at the soft green grass. Ash would never feel the cool wet of the ocean's water. She would have to find a place to hide when it rained. She had explained that to him a few years ago, when she had been missing her arm for about a week. Water made her Ash form muddy, impossible to lift. She had had to leave that arm behind, and remake it from the ash and dust that she gathered through the labs halls. It had taken months, and that was only her arm. If she lost more..... He shuddered at the thought. He wouldn't let it happen, not ever. He wouldn't let her die. He looked up as Ash came back, struggling under the weight of all she carried with her: a deer, a few rabbits, a handful of squirrels, and a makeshift pouch around her wrist. She smiled at him, a smile that had told her she had been thinking a lot of what he had. How was she going to teach them, how long could they stay here? How long could she protect them, while they all healed?

Ash
Ash looked over at Matt, and smiled sadly. She had no idea where to start! He was hurt, but was healing better, thanks to Kyra. She glanced at Nudge. he hadn't been moving his arm since shortly before the exit had opened. Then she glanced at Amp. Or was it Blast? Either way, his clothing was soaked with blood. She looked between them, glancing at the girl. Had she always been there? She frowned a little, trying to remember, and decided she had, and she just hadn't noticed her. She went over to Amp/Blast, untieing the little pouch of herbs around her wrist and handing him a few leaves. She didn't know what any of them were called, but she knew what they looked like, and what they did. The ones she handed him took away pain, made the body half-numb. "Chew those. They're kind of bitter, but they'll help... We have to get that bullet out soon..." She glanced at Kyra, not sure how the tigress would react to her making that hole a little bigger so she could remove that round. She shuddered at remembering how protective mother animals were, and assumed Kyra would behave similarly. Have to be careful... None of us have any idea what might set us off... Don't know how much longer I can help, with so much blood around... Her hands shook as she placed the herbs into Amp/Blast's palm.

Kyra stay curled around Amp and Dusk, her ears twitching backwards every now and again, listening to her surroundings. The birds that were flitting from tree to tree about half a mile away, the sighing of the wind against the trees and everyone's... Heartbeats? She guessed her hearing was so good she could hear everyone's heartbeat. Amp's and Dusk's heart beats were the coolest. Kyra didn't know how a heartbeat could be cool, but it was as if they're heartbeats were as blue and calm as the sky. She listened to everyone's heart beats. Some were warm, like Matt and others were always changing's like Nudge and some didn't have any at all, like Ash's. Kyra rubbed her head against Dusk's knee when Ash came over, then stopped. She stopped purring when Ash said they needed to get the bullet out. Kyra let out a warning growl at Ash, as she got to her feet.

Kyra still wasn't up to her full strength, but she had rested enough that she could stand without wobbling. She raised her head and looked Ash in the eyes. She still couldn't sent thoughts but the crazy look in her eye spoke word for word. Her eyes weren't green, but golden now, with hardly any green specks in them and that she would on instincts if she had, too. Kyra pushed Ash, with one swift movement of her head and glared at Ash, as she was about to turn and lied back down with Dusk and, Amp, when she heard it.

A heartbeat close by. It wasn't warm like Matt's or cool like Dusk's, it was as cold as a glacier. Kyra looked around, her eyes sweeping nook and cranny for the cold one's location. She didn't see anything nearby, but she wasn't going to ignore it. She walked up behind Blast, and started to shove his back with her head, pushing him up, then did the same thing to Dusk. She pushed them forward and then went up to Matt. She lowered her head and bumped his head with her head, hoping he would understand her reason for leaving this place. She went over to Nudge and pushed him up. She looked at the little girl and growled as she walked back to Blast and Dusk.

Amp

Amp watched what Blast was doing, he hadn’t figured out completely how to make sound do what he wanted. He had tried and it didn’t always work, Blast had told him before that he needed to stop being so mousey and speak up, make more noise. Sound wasn’t quiet and reserved, it was loud and ever present, it rang in people’s ears it made itself known. Amp needed to learn this, it was the only way he was going to be able to control the sound they way Blast did.

He let his mind wonder, it was easy to do since he had been left alone for most of his life. His mind naturally tended to wonder on its own. He probably wouldn’t be able to carry on a conversation anyone because he hadn’t learned how to talk to people properly. Yes he knew how to talk but he had barely any social skills, no one had taught him any.

He was thinking briefly about what was going to happen next, they weren’t in the Lab anymore and they were out on their own. None of them knew how to survive. Then his mind switched topics as Blast started petting Kyra’s fur, he was focused on how soft it was. He hadn’t felt something soft in a long time. He mainly felt the rough floor, scratchy sheets and the smooth steal of knives and other instruments that were used on him.

Blast

Blast was letting his mind wonder also, partially thinking about the softness of different things as he rhythmically petted Kyra’s fur. Then his mind started thinking about the patterns found in sound, the different rhythms they created and the pictures it created to his and Amp’s eyes only. They could see the sound waves, and anything they touch, creating a type of sonar hearing.

He heard footsteps coming towards him and he looked up. It was one of the others that had escaped with them. She was coming straight towards him with some of the green stuff in her hands. He didn’t know what they were but she seemed to know. His thoughts were confirmed when she put the stuff in his hand. "Chew those. They're kind of bitter, but they'll help... We have to get that bullet out soon..." He frowned a little. Everyone seemed so focused on getting the small piece of metal out his shoulder. They all had to know what went on in the Lab, some metal shoved in his shoulder was nothing new and it was hardly something that was of great importance. ”Why do you all care so much about this small piece of metal? Worse has happened before, this is at the bottom of the scale level of pain that either of us have felt.”

By the look in the girl’s eyes he could tell that she was most likely about to shove the stuff in his hand down his throat if she had to. He sighed a bit loudly and put them in his mouth and started chewing. The flavour of them spread in his mouth and the bitter taste coated the inside of his mouth. He almost spit the things out, it wasn’t the worst he had eaten but that didn’t make them any better. His face twisted in a funny way, he made it known that he didn’t like they green stuff that he kept chewing.

Then Kyra got up and growled at Ash. He tilted his head a little, as she started looking around and pushing people to their feet as if she heard something that he didn’t, which was odd because he heard most everything. ”There’s something watching....moving silently....no one else can hear the movements.......” His eyes unfocused slightly as he listened to Amp, having a conversation with him just mentally. ”It could just be another one of us. We can’t just leave now without any idea of where we are going.”

An image of water and what seemed like dim lights appeared in her mind, it was beautiful. She felt Nudge brush her hair, but it fell back into the same place. She flicked the hair out of her eyes looking over at him, "So pretty..." She says, the image brought her comfort ... At peace.

No more bad thought Faith. Bad thought make Faith sad. Faith sad make Nudge sad. Nudge want make bad thought gone so Faith not sad. Can do that? The voice lingered in her head.

She nodded, her hair falling like a black curtain over her eyes but she moved it with her free hand behind her ears. She looks at Nudge, seeing him in the sun light was different than in a poorly lit florescent room. His eyes were still the same blue color she remembered and his hair had grown out though, she giggles quietly, she had heard one of the White Coats talking about such thing as a "Hair Cut" once, so she figured that's when you go to someone who cuts your hair off... Of course they had done it in the Lab but it would just grow back in the same shaggy style for most of the mutants.

"Where to?" She asks, to no one in particular, this whole talking thing feeling strange to her as her British accent peers through from when she learned to talk in the Lab in London.

Matt and Ash
Matt groaned and winced as Kyran nudged him. The weird gold of her eyes, an annoyed, protective color, told him everything he needed to know. She felt it too, or heard it. Ash looked slightly terrified at the tigress, as though she thought she was going to be eaten, or chewed out by an angry mother. He smiled a little; it was hard to tell the difference between the two looks sometimes. He staggered to his feet, and stumbled, making Ash whip around to look at him. Terror crept onto her face, and she looked around at the others. "She's right, we have to move, now!" She grabbed Amp/Blast's hand, and tugged hard, so that he was catapaulted forward after Kyra. Leaves flew around on a conjured wind as Ash's mind worked faster, and she looked at Matt. He leaned heavily against the tree, looking behind him. "Kyra, Dusk, get everyone moving. Ash and I will stay, hold the thing off." He wasn't sure how they were going to do that, but if it meant getting the others safe, they'd do everything they could. It was only one, so far as he could tell, but it was strong. The cold eyes told him that much. Ash trembled a little with the effort of keeping the stormwind going, eyes closed and whole body shaking. He watched the dry autumn leaves flow around it, and focused. The leaves burst into flame, the dark purples and reds flying around the small tornado, giving it shape.

Camelion
Camelion watched as the tiger-girl started getting everyone up, and the grayish girl helping. He shivered slightly at the sudden wind that cropped up, and was taken aback by the sudden colorful flame that swilred through it. They were working together? How could they possibly know to do that? they had been fighting against each other since creation..... Hadn't they? He growled and pulled back as the flames rose, not burning the trees but somehow getting hotter as though tit was eating everything in sight. And it was coming towards him. His eyes went huge as he slid down the trunk of the tree he was in, taking off out of the fire's range. Damn.... well at least I know some made it alive. Much more fun if I know what I'm going against.

Kyra made sure she stood beside Amp and Dusk, keeping herself focused on protecting her own two. She went on edge when Ash came near Amp. She let loose a snarl at little girl. She jumped forward under Ash's and Amp's locked hands, brushing her back upwards, breaking Amp's and Ash's locked hands. She turned and nearly fell over. She wasn't even supposed to be fighting, let alone moving right after she lost so much blood. "Kyra, Dusk, get everyone moving. Ash and I will stay, hold the thing off." Matt's words made Kyra hesitate for a moment, right when Ash started to move the leaves and then burning them. The fire brought out Kyra's tiger instincts telling her to run, to get her own and leave. Her instincts were enough to gather energy to phase into her human form.

Kyra's black hair fell around her face, her golden eyes brightened a bit, as she stood up. She was wearing some slightly torn black jeans and had a black shirt on. She pushed Amp, and Dusk away from Ash, then ran up behind Nudge and Faith. "Get up you two and run!" She yelled out as she pushed them after Dusk and Amp. Kyra glanced at Matt, and ran over to him. "Come on! Your not well enough to fight and neither am I, So move before I--" Her words were cut off when she felt a great sucking pain in her head. She let out a frightened scream as her body slumped to the ground.

Kyra didn't know whose head she was in now. It didn't feel like Matt's familier mind. It felt... cold, and unforgiving. She was trying to gather her senses when she heard whoever's thought. Damn.... well at least I know some made it alive. Much more fun if I know what I'm going against Kyra was inside the cold one's head. If she were in her human body, she would have shivered, but she wasn't. She looked inside some of her victim's memories. His name was Camelion. He was told to kill them. He liked killing. Kyra wanted to look deeper into Camelion's memories when she thought outloud to him and herself. "Why? Why do you want to kill us?"

Dusk
Image

Dusk thanked Blast quietly, smiling to herself as she noticed his eyes grew darker. At least now she could tell who she was speaking to. He smiled at her, and she looked down at the ground quickly, a little embarrased. She turned as Kyra sprawled out beside them and started to purr loudly. Dusk laughed softly at the sight of the massive tiger purring, though she kept it mainly to herself, thinking that Kyra might not appreciate it.
Ash had left, but she soon came back with some meat, though she came towards them after placing her kill on the ground. After insisting that Blast chew some leaves she explained about removing the bullet. Kyra didn't seem to like that, and vocally made her thoughts known.
"She's right Kyra. It needs to be removed, though I think we should be a little concerned about infection. At the very least we need water to clean the wound-"
She was interrupted as Kyra suddenly went into a frenzy, trying to get everyone to move. Ash and Matt obviously understood as soon they ordered everyone to move. Dusk wasn't sure what the problem was, however soon Ash was creating a dust storm with fire of somesort. Evidently it was important they moved. Dusk ran towards Nudge and the newer girl, urging them both up to move them away, when something climbed down a tree and started running off.
Someone had been watching them.
Seeing he/she run off, Dusk stopped trying to get everyone to hurry off.
"I think we should find a safer location" she said warily, before noticing Kyra on the ground. She was in her human form and something had happened.
"Kyra?" Dusk rushed towards her, unable to feel her emotions. At least not near the tiger...near the escaping person.

#, as written by Jeggy
Flames grabbed at the sky, sending up clouds of smoke and raining down flakes of hot ashes, making Kinarie flinch and tighten her white-knuckled grip on the trunk of the eerily thin branch she perched on. Dark silver-grey eyes widened in disbelief as the young girl realized what she was looking at was the rubbled remains of the dreaded laboratory that she had spent probably her entire life in, and only just managed to escape from.

Slim fingers rose to cover her mouth quickly as the ash threatened her delicate lungs but a small choking cough still escaped her lips. She receded back down the tree to where she had been when she had awoken to the explosion, huddling in fear that someone - or thing - had heard her -- Though Kinarie had struggled through a tiny breach in the Arena's top over at least as many light changes (days) as she had fingers (aka, almost 2 weeks), she jumped and hid at every sound or movement and stayed perfectly silent herself. Her wings were sore with longing to leap out of the tree and fly without restraints but she barely even left the tree to grab a few berries from a bush nearby below her; and even that took much energy.

Kinarie's sensitive ears picked up more sounds from the direction of the explosion. She again pulled herself laboriously to the peak of the tree to see out. She narrowed her eyes to sharpen her sight, spotting movement heading away from the building remains. She whimpered softly, rubbing her ankles and the lead weights strapped to them. She couldn't take them off, and it had used all her strength to get herself away from the lab with them on but she knew she couldn't fly away, or even walk very far from the impending meeting. She hugged the trunk, closing her eyes tightly to try and ignore the sights of the slowly burning building and the strangers on the move, but she couldn't close her ears.

A new wind whipped through a section of the trees and she cracked open her eyes, quickly widening them in horror as a small wall of wind twisted and turned in bright fiery colors like the lab. She buried her face in her hands to smother a fearful wail and folded her wings around her to try and block the rest of the ever-confusing world. Questions questions questions...!? Her broken mind tumbled the ideas around as she shivered, heart fluttering as fast as her wings could.

Nudge had been focusing on making sure that Faith got away safe, largely ignoring the dull pain that shot through his right arm with every movement, when something new came into his mind. Something, or rather, someone who was as broken as he was. who was as scared as he was, and they were close.

Questions questions questions...!?

The fearful thoughts reminded Nudge of the way his own were...was this person the same as him? If they were, then they had to take them as well. It was the riht thing to do, as far as his understanding of such things went.
Turning to Faith, he stared at her, urging her to understand his next 'words'.

Faith stay Dusk. Dusk keep Faith safe. Nudge need go see. Might be other same as Nudge here. Need find, make safe too. he sent, then ran, keeping his arm tucked in against his thin chest to stop it moving. He was following the thoughts back to their source, and was confused when he got there and found nothing. The mind was here, but where was it?
A sound above him made him look up, confusion clouding his blue eyes. So you could go up those things? Those were 'trees', right? They were strong enough to sit on? Very odd.

But it wasn't that which was most surprising to Nudge. It was the small thing that was in the tree that surprised him. A girl? Up there? How did she get up there? His internal questions were answered when he saw that she was the same as Faith. This tiny girl had wings too. Same as Nudge...and same as Faith. How that? he wondered, then noticed the metal things around the girl's legs. He somehow knew that they were stopping her from moving. Maybe Twin-mind could get them off? He had got the zappy-collar off of Dusk, so maybe he could fix this too? But first he had to get the girl to come down...He sent out a gentle, hesitant mental nudge, a small tendril of thought. Enough to get across what he wanted to, but not enough that might scare her.

It okay pretty-wing-girl. It safe. Pretty-wing-girl come down yes? Nudge help get metal things off. How get up there? Not get down? Nudge help if pretty-wing-girl want. he sent, holding his good hand out to her. He wasn't really sure what the gesture meant, but he knew it meant something like he was going to help.

Camelion
Why do you want to kill us? A growling voice echoed in Camelion's head, and he looked around trying to find the source. When he realized it was in his head, he closed his eyes. A girl stood there, but behind her was a feline-like outline. It took him a little while to realize that it was the tiger-girl that now lay on the floor behind the fire weilders (ooc:Matt's the one making the windstorm burst into flame XD). "I do not wish to kill you, not yet anyway. Someone I owe quite a lot to wants you, do not ask me why. He has always wanted something from those who held you captive." He smiled slyly, carefully blocking his true thoughts from her as he continued, "If you can convince the others to come with me, I can promise you all the best. Free movement, no involuntary tests, wonderful food and living quarters..." This of course was a complete lie; the Institution's conditions were even worse than the lab. The "creatures" were underfed, to await the knockoff of the lab's Games, where they mindlessly devoured each other. Many of them were not given his luxury of clothing. But he smiled, that sly, seductive smile of the reptile he was crossed with. He had always had that smile, the effect had just been enhanced to an almost hypnotic form throughout his many alterations. His deep, currently gold eyes flashed, his voice silky as he "spoke." He watched the tigress' form shift as he spoke, the way his surely did. It was something he often saw in animal-crosses. Their minds, at least to his view, had the faint outline of whatever animal their body had been altered with. Why, he didn't understand, but he didn't ask questions about that. It was a gift of his, and something that often came in handy dealing with others. He could manipulate easier that way, he just had to find out what made her tick......

Ash
Ash trembled more as the fire threatened to overpower her storm, just as she felt the presence weaken. It was like it was distracted by something, or someone was talking to it. She heard a faint thud behind her; Kyra. Something had happened. She quickly pulled away from the storm; Matt's eyes grew huge at the sudden "weight," and quickly dispersed the purple flame. Ash ran toward Kyra.Fine time to go down, She thought angrily, looking at the hastily deserted camp. The meat could be left, but not the herbs. She didn't know the entire forest, so she wouldn't always be able to find what she needed. "Matt, come on! We'll get the rest later, hurry up before you pass out again!" Annoyance dripped from her voice, a sickly sweet that made her brother shiver and nod. He glanced back at Nudge, and her gaze followed. What is it? Why didn't you go with the others? Nudge? What're you doing we have to move? From her vantage, she couldn't see what he did. She moved cautiously closer as Matt lifted Kyra onto his shoulders.

Darius Blanc

He woke up in a dark alley, he faintly remembered what had happened. . . RUN! He was hearing things and seeing images run through his mind. . . Wait! My gun! He was still waking up or maybe he was only starting to fall asleep. . . An explosion blast image in his mind made him jump and gasp for air. What he had just hallucinated was what had happened at the lab, first it had been the alarms going off signaling an escaped mutant which wasn't very rare, but then Darius had seen a whole flock of mutants running away in one direction.
It had all happened so fast, the guard being killed and the keys being thrown into his cell. Darius still didn't understand why a mutant would want to save Darius, a human, from his cell. In any case, Darius hadn't hesitated long, he had opened his cell and started to follow the mutants out. He had been half caught in the explosion and was sent flying into a tree which he fell from and was knock out cold. When he woke up, there was no one, no mutants, no humans, just open land and his sniper on his back. He had snatched it when he noticed it was on one of the lab walls. Now it was only him and the world now filled with hundreds of new possibilities.
Now Darius was in a town that he didn't know the name but that he really didn't care about because he was quickly going to leave. He had stolen a few things, like food, water, a tent and some covers and also a backpack over night and now he was planning on leaving. Whatever happened in that lab, Darius wasn't planning on keeping quiet and he needed a place that was safe and also hidden so that he could start getting his information up and running.
"I will not be silent, I will fight back and I will lose a leg if I have to," Darius was determined and he left into the skyline as dawn began.

#, as written by Jeggy
Kinarie sat huddled against the trunk, hugging herself and humming softly to block out the surroundings. That's why she didn't know the dark boy was even below her until he sent that gentle thought-nudge that almost sent her sprawling off her perch if she hadn't been hugging it already. It okay pretty-wing-girl. It safe. Pretty-wing-girl come down yes? Nudge help get metal things off. How get up there? Not get down? Nudge help if pretty-wing-girl want. As it was, her head jerked up and her wings spread wide with a bright whoosh, gripping the branch she sat on as she wavered.

Her heart fluttered so fast, Kinarie thought it would pop out from her chest. Her hair whipped in a dark silver arch behind her as she fervently tried finding it's source. A rustle of feet caught the attention of her ears ans she stiffened, slowly bending her neck to see below her. Far below, on the ground, was a person. This time she couldn't suppress a high gasp. A person, but... he didn't look exactly like a scientist. He didn't have wings like her; none of the scientists had wings like her, too. But, his stance was calm. And he looked more like her in build - unnaturally slim and small. His upturned face held not hatred, disgust, or trickery. And yet, she couldn't place what it was. His hand, it was open and free of any sort of gun or knife or leash. And his mind-voice; Kinarie brought a thin palm and pressed it against her forehead, brow furrowed slightly as she tried to understand his words: It okay pretty-wing-girl. It Safe. Pretty-wing-girl come down yes? Okay, okay. Kinarie knew that word. Then twice, he directed the longer phrase at her: girl, wing. She was a wing-girl but that first part she didn't understand... pretty? What was she, pretty? But safe. She knew that one, mostly. Safe, okay. It, was was it? What was safe? She was not safe. She was in an unknown forest closeby to the only thing she knew, and it just exploded. Not, not safe. She firmly thought. How was this boy not scared to be there? He said more, though, she remembered. The odd mind-thoughts echoed around inside her head.
Nudge help get metal things off. How get up there? Not get down? Nudge help if pretty-wing-girl want. Nudge, what was this? He, the boy, he must be Nudge. She blinked, looking at the extremely thin branches around her, filling out to huge thick ones at the base where he stood. She'd flapped as hard as she could with her wings, which hadn't gotten her very far before she started using her arms to pull a bit too. But it had still taken her quite a while. Her feet twitched under the metal lead weights. Metal... off... help...? She bit her lip. Boy, Nudge, could take them off? She shook her head slightly, hair falling into her face. Uncoming gone. Not. She thought helplessly. How many hours had she sat in her cell, scraping, pulling, whacking at the cuffs?

Kinarie tilted her head, watching the boy warily. He looked so different from the Scientists. He was calmer, unhurting. It almost made her want to crawl down to him, if only for curiosity's sake.
Slowly, carefully, Kinarie slipped a foot to set it on a branch lower. She swung her other leg to it, but the weights unbalanced her and she wobbled for a heart-throbbing moment before wrenching herself back to safety, wings humming as she tried to use the acute balance a bird should have before clutching the trunk with weak arms. She blinked down at Nudge silently, shaking. Not- C..can't. She wasn't used to thinking to another person, the thoughts wavering uncertainly and soft.

Faith stay Dusk. Dusk keep Faith safe. Nudge need go see. Might be other same as Nudge here. Need find, make safe too. Nudge said to her and she nodded, fluttering her wings a bit, looking around at Dusk and the others.

"Where... Where are we going?" She asks the rest of them, the words seemed forced, tired, raspy. She heard her stomach growl but she ignores it -- she was used to going days without being fed... Especially when she was bad... She rubs her wrists where the cuffs had been for so long but she ripped off during the escape. Her wrists felt and looked weird to her without the cuffs on. She was used to having them on both her hands and ankles... She instinctively looks around, checking out her scenery and looks back towards the mutants.

Of course she had noticed a beautiful blue flower sitting all by its lonesome and she shuffles over, kneeling down and picking it out of the ground. It was blue. Like Nudge's eyes. Kind of like her eyes... At least she thought so... Or maybe her eyes were green.... She suddenly became curious on how she looked.... For she hadn't looked in a mirror in over 18 years, the only way to tell what SHE looked liked was to see her sister...

Kyra didn't like Camelion's mind. It wasn't familier and warm as Matt's or friendly, like Dusks, it was... Harsh... Violent.... Cold. She knew he was blocking his true thoughts when he replied, but there was something he wasn't gaurding: his memory. She dove into, watching, listening and reliving his past. She knew he could see her tiger side. She also knew he was lying. He was waiting for a weakness from her. Then she wasn't watching his past anymore but drawn to what he had said. She all of a sudden wanted, needed to tell him she would agree. She was about to, but then her tiger side roared to life, reminding her of her friends. She mentally shook herself out of his manipulation and made a growling sound. "Liar." She replied icily. "Your lying, so why should I trust you? Or do as you say? I'll never... Do... As you...SAY!!!!" She sent the thoughts to him just as the pain was back, more excrutiating then ever before. It hurt to enter and exit Camelion's mind and she would probably never do this again.

The first thing Kyra noticed when she entered her own body again, was that she was swaying. She wasn't moving but... "Aghh!!!" She let out as she struggled to untangle herself from Matt. She fell and hit the back of her head on, some stone. "Ow!" She said as outloud, as she rubbed the back of her head. That's when the smell hit her. She smelled like a human, a pure human. She wrinkled her nose and let out a growl. "Great, I smell human. Would you guys tell me when your trying to move my body." Her eyes widened as she replayed her entire time in Camelion's head. She let out a hysterical laugh as she got to her feet. "We can slow the pace down by the way... The threat would probably stay back a little... Damn... I stink, like a-" Her words were cut off as she quickly shifted into her tiger form. She sat down heavily and walked over to Dusk and Amp, quickly.

Kyra didn't like Camelion's head at all, and it felt wrong but here... Here everything was right. No one here had cold heartbeats or harsh minds. She started to purr as she rubbed her sides against Dusk's and Amp's legs, trying to forget her painful experience inside the cold one's mind.

Amp

Since Amp wasn’t in control he could let inner ear reach out, he could hear and feel the minds of others, hear things much farther if he wanted to. He was letting Blast now what he was hearing, he knew that whatever he had picked up on wasn’t something good. The normal sounds were small and even he could barely hear it, and the mind felt cold, cruel, like it had no morality. You hear that? Feel it? Blast gave him a mental nod, ”That can’t be good, we should help get people out of here.” Amp nodded in agreement, but he wasn’t paying to close attention to what Blast was doing.

He kept his mind focused on the cold and malicious one that was somewhere in the distance. He couldn’t tell if it was moving away or if it was still in its same spot. Suddenly he felt a different presence inside the cold one’s mind. He heard the mind go through the air, and slam into the mind of the other. But the new mind was familiar; it had a strange almost a cat like feel to it. Then it clicked in his mind who the other mind there was. It was Kyra, the tiger that was protecting them some of the time. What is she doing in there? He kept the thought in his inner mind so he wouldn’t bother Blast. Amp at the moment didn’t know what Blast was doing and didn’t want to break his concentration.

He kept a watch over Kyra’s mind, to make sure that the one he declared was the cold one’s mind didn’t do any harm to her. They seemed to be going back and forth in a conversation but he couldn’t listen to closely. If he had tried to listen to the exact words that were being exchanged, he would have made his presence know to the two of them. He relaxed a little as Kyra’s mind left the Cold One’s and he heard it return back to her own body.

Blast

Blast left Amp to his own affairs and let his mind go back to control what was going on around them. He looked around and noticed a few were not with the main group. He saw Kyra go down but Matt and Dusk were over there with her. So instead he decided to find the others so they could all get moving. Amp didn’t like whatever he had found and the worry was seeping into him.

He looked around for a quick second before he figured out where the others were. He fallowed the sound of footsteps padding slowly across the ground, the flare and shift of feathers moving against each other. He came to the spot where all the noise was coming from and stopped. Nudge was there and so was the Ash girl. He was slightly confused for a split second, wondering where the sound of feathers was coming from if no one here had any feathers. Then it clicked and he looked up. His eyes didn’t catch the girl at first but he saw the feathers and wings that were attached to the small body that seemed to be the norm of the Lab subjects.

He tilted his head a little, he didn’t think there were any other mutants who had made it out but then again, the blast was loud and his ears were still partially ringing from it. ”Hey girl, why don’t you come down from there? It must be lonely way up there.” He gave a charming boy smile to the girl in the tree, his dark blue eyes holding no intent of harm in them. He didn’t know who the mutant was but she was small and probably more scared than Amp was. He didn’t think leaving her alone was a going to help her and who knows, they may need her in the future.
