a character in “The Outside”, as played by yogitheambrangyl

Description

Image
~Name: Carmine Quenell

~Age: She may be one of the few people who grew up in the lab to know her exact age. 27

~Gender: Female though her actions would make sense for a man.

~Skills:From growing up in the Lab her skills aren’t those of normal women her age. She learned quickly to not feel remorse, pity or sympathy. Through this she learned to better her torture techniques, ignoring the screams, the moans, the pleas for help, all she focused on getting was the information or getting out her anger. She is quite inventive of her techniques, and so she has had her own weapons and toys made just for her. One of which is her glove. A specially made devise made of many different blades, each one stitched on precisely. On the inside it is silky smooth metal, cool to the touch and fitted perfect to her hand. While the outside is quiet different than that, each blade faces out, making the glove a slicing pro. The slightest touch with cause a thin line of blood to appear on the skin and if used just right, the glove can cause you pain for days on end before you finally die of blood loss a week or two after Carmine has started with you. (I will add more as her other toys are revealed)

Another skill is her weapons skills. She is adept at throwing knives; she has found many ways to hide her knives and is able to reach them quickly. She will not easily miss a target with her knives unless she is unable to see the target or is greatly disabled.

Image
~Description: Carmine is like any other woman; she has all the right curves in all the right places. She gets a lot of attention from the guards, they think because of her good looks she is willing but they are wrong when they end up the ones down in the torture chambers. She is like a poisonous flower, she has all the good looks and enticing moves but when you approach, she will not hesitate to cut you down without remorse. She takes great offence to men coming at her uninvited, she does not let anyone dominate except for her, that is her job and that is where she is going to stay if she has anything to do with it.

Because she rarely leaves the Lab her features are close to the mutants despite her position as the Lab’s director. She has light colored skin from not being outdoors often. She spends most of her time inside her study/office, in the experiment rooms or down in the torture chambers. Once in awhile she will go outside, this will usually be her taking matters into her own hands and going after whatever it was that the others could not obtain. Rarely will she go outside for her own desires like tanning or watching a sunset. If she did go outside more often her skin would be more tanned than the pale dark skin she has.

She has a small frame that makes her look frail. Despite her small stature of five feet nine inches, she is a lot stronger than her body makes her look. She could very easily outrun the fastest guard and takedown the strongest guard within a few minutes. This is from the few modifications she had done to herself. Of course the serums and potions were tested on others first and perfected before she had them made for herself. Because of these modifications, she still has her small body, and at the same time has great strength, and healing.

Her face is stunning; many of the new guards and naive slightly older boys they bring in for experiments will stop and stare. With her high cheek bones and perfectly curved eyebrows, her eyes have a perfect frame to them. Her eyes look like onyx stones, dark black pools that usually feel as if they are staring into your soul. This is generally a literal statement, while torturing someone she will manage to get the information you keep closet to you, bring to light your most kept secrets. You won’t generally see a kind light in them, she has rarely shown anyone kindness and so her eyes will most likely flash shades of red when she gets REALLY angry.

Her hair frames her face nicely like black silk. She keeps her hair straight and long, it flows down her back to her bare waist. She has long bangs that will hang in her face once in awhile and covers one eye, when she is angry, or having fun she will push her bangs out of her face. While she is torturing someone she will generally pull her hair into a ponytail to keep it out of the way. Because it is so long she can’t always keep her hair from brushing over all the blood that comes from her tortures, from this the ends of her hair are permanently died a deep crimson red. If she were too cut her hair the ends would end up red in just a few days, and it seems as if her hair absorbs the blood color and reaches farther up her hair.

Her smile is ruthless as well; any type of smile from her usually contains no form of sincerity or mercy. Her smiles will come in response to someone being in pain by her hand, or her orders being carried out the way she intended them to be carried out. These are the only things that will make her in anyway happy. Someone being in pain will bring her the most glee and will be one of the times she will actually laugh. This laugh is not sweet or kind; it’s hard and will cause a shudder to go through someone who hears it.

Her clothes are quite promiscuous. Her tops are generally small and leave her unmarked torso bare. She has a few bracelets that she keeps on her arms, but otherwise they are bare also. She will most often wear small shorts or a short skirt to go with her small tops. If she ever feels the need to dress up, she will most likely wear a shortcut dress that hugs her frame and reaches down to the floor, a large slit up one side will expose her bare leg. Despite wear a small amount of clothes, she finds ways to hide her weapons within them. The weapons she keeps on her at all times are her knives, she can find any place to hide one and has had some great training on how to use them to the best of her ability.

Image
~Personality: Carmine has a few different sides to her. The one that people see and get the wrath from is her normal everyday attitude. She is easily provoked and irritated by simple things that wouldn’t normally set someone off. Little things like someone not coming to her right away will get her angry, or someone not doing as they were told. Most of her irritations come from people not moving fast enough, not doing what she tells them to do, or things not coming out the way she wants them to be. When she is made, you can tell just by the sound of her voice. She will yell, scream and her voice carries through the hall to alert anyone else that she is angry.

She has very few outlets for this anger and the most efficient technique that she has found is the use of torture. She will take her anger out on the mutants, beating them and even doing experiments on them herself without the use of a sedative or pain killer. Her anger fuels her torture techniques and possesses. She can very easily ignore people’s screams, moans, groans, and pleas for help. All she cares about is hearing the screams and getting the information she requested.

This is the only time you will see her twisted type of humour and adrenaline happiness. Causing pain to others will put a smile on her face and is the one thing that will calm her down for a few days if she gets really into it. Hearing that someone is screaming will send a glee through her that she doesn’t normally get anywhere else. Most are scared of her sense of humour because she will laugh at people’s pain. She finds the most entertainment out of the tortures that happen, and her second most favourite is watching the Games that she has the scientists put on regularly.

Rarely will she show anyone any type of sympathy or kindness. There is one exception to her cruel attitude, Eriyk. Carmine and Eriyk grew up together in the Lab and so she has a small soft spot for her favourite and head guard. He is the only one that is able to talk to her without the fear of being the target of her wrath and also knows her almost as well as she does. He finds her the best people she can torture, the right people to work right under her and everyone else he will instruct and carry out discipline unless Carmine is in a bad mood.

~Fears: Being raised in the Lab, her father being the old director, and seeing all the things going on since she was little, she has no fears to speak of. If she were forced to say that she had one, she would say it would be someone else taking over the Lab but she knows that her position is secure and there is no threat of the job as Director being taken.

Image
~History:Carmine’s father was the Director of the Lab; the position was passed down from father to son since the organization was created. Each director had the same type of personality, angry, mean and liked using people with and without their knowledge. Carmine was the last child born to one of her father’s toys. He was getting old and he had not had a son in many years. The last one he had he gave to the Lab for experiments along with all the others that had been born. He didn’t want to die without a child being the next Director and so he kept Carmine. She grew up in the white halls of the Lab, hearing the screams, and even being witness to some of the tortures since she was old enough to walk on her own. Since she was able to get around on her own, her father let her fend for herself so she would become tough and uncaring. She quickly learned the ways to get what she wanted and who would give her the things she wanted. One of them was Eriyk, she would spend a lot of time with him when he wasn’t training with his father or out on some type of mission that her father had ordered. She preformed her first torture when she was ten. She had her father behind her but she worked alone, and after two days, she had more information out of the traitor than her father had expected. Not long after that her father started teaching her about running the Lab, choosing the experiments, making sure things happened on time, ect, ect. While her father was getting older he still held great control over the Lab and still didn’t notice her as often. During this time she did have a few experiments preformed on herself. Of course none were done without them being tested on others first and being perfected. The first was used to improve her physical abilities, to make her stronger, faster, all without changing her nicely formed body shape. The second was to enhance and speed her healing process. She can now heal any type of injury without the need of medical help. Small cuts almost instantly disappear, large injuries like gunshots and broken bones fix themselves in about an hour. The longest it has taken her to heal was a few hours with a head injury, great blood loss and her side ripped open deep enough to see the white of her ribs. Her father became sickly and the workers were starting to organize themselves into small groups, feuding with each other about what to do. This was her time to take over, it took several months before everyone started to fear, respect, and accept her position. One of the main events that got people listening to her was when she put herself in the Games; it was her against a fire mutant, a tiger mutant, and an eagle mutant. When she won she gained the respect of many of the scientists and their workers. But the guards were still unwilling to accept her rule. The deciding factor with them was her against their commander, who at the time was still Eriyk’s father. These matches were much the same as the Games; it was a fight to the death for role of the leader. This was the first and last time she hesitated on anything, she didn’t want to kill the one she called uncle or her best friend’s father. But she knew that if she did this, she would have all the guards working under her and Eriyk wouldn’t have to fight to be the next commander, he would get the role automatically by birthright. She went through with it and won the intense fight that lasted for almost a week with very little breaks and time for nourishment in between. With that, she became the official Director of the Lab and her childhood friend became her commander of the guards.

She paused slightly as Camelion took her hand, and placed a kiss near her wrist. Strange thing to do. The action cut through her previous train of thought and left her a bit stunned. It took her all of two seconds for her to realize she was standing there like an idiotic damsel and turned abruptly, going back into her office. Right before she shut the door she heard a smack, a thud and Camelion’s voice. She smirked as she shut the door. Likes to bring pain does he? The thought of allowing him to remain began to sound more appealing, she did need a few interrogators, and she could compare the story she got from the kitten earlier with the information he would tell her after. She nodded; she would do that, after she got some food. She left her office, and headed down to the cafeteria.

Healers

The older woman looked up as a guard came in with someone, he was obviously wounded as he was limping and holding his side. He also looked quite irritated, she didn’t see that look often in the wounded unless it was a guard, but this one wasn’t wearing the uniform. She didn’t ask questions about it as she motioned with a wave of her hand to the nearest cot in the room and jotted something down on a paper. She then went over to the man. ”What happened now? What all needs to be fixed?”

She was just coming back from the cafeteria, liking her lips. She finally had some food in her stomach after a long day of nothing but talking with people. She probably hadn’t eaten yesterday either, seemed so anyway. Any guard she passed stepped out of her way, letting her get through the hallways without any interruption. She had ordered one of the guards to go around and give the mutants some food before they shut the lights out in the rooms. Any scraps left over from the cafeteria would be thrown in the cell and then a few minutes later the lights would be put out. She knew that other facilities probably fed them better but here she got the better results, even though the care for them was lacking. But it had to be done, keeping them weak is what kept them compliant.

She ran a hand through her hair, turning down a hallway and letting the soft locks of black and red brush against her back. She paused slightly as she felt a presence behind her. She turned, her bangs sliding over one eye as she did so, and focused her gaze on Camelion. She was a bit surprised that he was back so soon, he had stitches on the side of his head and his torso and shoulder were bandaged. ”Back so soon? Thought you might have wanted a rest before coming to tell me the secrets you keep.” She stepped towards him slowly, brushing those stubborn bangs behind her ear.

Scientist

He was jotting things down on two clipboards, now that there were two mutants inside the maze. There were others in the room, keeping track of things, and telling him the main points that needed to be written down. One was listening through some headphones at the conversation going on; apparently neither of them had any strong predator instincts, they were introducing themselves and planned on working together. He laughed, and looked up as the man observing their actions motioned for him to go over. The feline had scratched into the wall a message to them, he smiled, and not many of the mutants knew how to read let alone write so it was almost hilarious at seeing the message carved into the wall. When I get out. You are dead.

He shook his head with a smirk. ”The little kitten thinks she can attack us once she’s out.” A few others laughed along with him and he went back to the control panel pushing a red button. ”I doubt either of them will have enough strength to walk let alone attack after this.” He watched, arms crossed as he knew that, for one, the ground underneath their feet was heating up, and second, he had just allowed the pillars of fire to start working. He saw one shoot up from the ground a few corridors from the pair then disappear, another shot up in another part of the labyrinth. He nodded, the jets would be random, and there was no sign of where or when it would strike, not even a vent it the ground indicated where it could be.

A smile tugged at the corner of her lip at his response, he was strong enough to last without sedatives and pain killers, and continued to work despite obviously needing a rest. She nodded and led him back to her office, she needed a rest soon anyway, how long had she been awake, two days, three? She actually didn’t remember, but it didn’t matter, she would sleep after he told her what he knew. ”Anything and everything you know. Start with those that escaped from the Institution, how many, their abilities, ect.”

She opened the door to her office, letting him close it behind her. She then walked over the side wall that had her fireplace; she tossed a log inside the hearth and placed her hand on one of the stones, pressing on it. The wall next to her slid away to a small room, inside was a small library with a large couch. She waved him in behind her and she stood in front of the two-way fireplace.

She listened to all he had to tell her, and honestly she didn’t think it would take so long. She expected him to be blunt and tell him simple things like anyone else would, but he explained and rambled some, it might have been that he was swaying on his feet and looked as if he needed sleep. She just listened, as he didn’t give much time for her comment all too much, and seemed to be rambling a bit about his past life, about the murders he had committed before being caught. He caught himself and returned to the subject, but in the back of her mind she didn’t know if she wanted him to go back, she was enjoying the descriptions of the things he had done.

But he continued, and finally came his demand. As she knew there would be one, nothing came without a price. But he caught her off guard once again. ”Just another mutant? That’s all you ask for?” She stood from her place on the couch and walked in front of the book shelves. She nodded to him. ”It can be arranged, someone will head out to collect the mutant soon. It seems you need rest though.” She motioned to the deep red colored piece of furniture. ”You can sleep there, unless you’d rather a cell.” She chuckled and walked out, going over to her desk to check his information with the information she got earlier from the feline they had brought in.

Robert Wagner

Robert Wagner arrived at the front door of the administrative building and entered as though he were in charge – an action which did well to reflect his feelings. He referred to this building as the ‘administrative’ one, since the director’s office was here, as well as his own. He rarely came into the office, though, since most of his work was done from home. Tracking down potential mutants was a difficult task, but once he found them, he never concerned himself with their futures. He had no need to be inside this building.

The grand irony of his entrance was that he was actually on his way to see the director. In his many years working here, he’d only ever interacted with her on a couple occasions. His department had traditionally been left to do their work without much micro-management. Besides, he had far more experience here than her anyways. Carmine was still a young girl. Surely Robert was at least twice her age. As he turned down the hallway to her office, he recalled her running around as a child. Such a beautiful girl.

She’s probably a bitch, he knew. Birthright aside, nobody holds her position – at her age – unless they are exceptionally bitchy.

It didn’t matter, as long as she was willing to work with him. He arrived at the door to her office and knocked gently. He heard conversation inside. “Carmine, it’s Robert Wagner from Tracking. I’m sure you’re busy but we need to talk.”

With that, he pushed the door open and entered, not caring to wait for her permission. He saw her inside, dressed in almost nothing, as per usual, talking to a black-haired man about her age. He cast the man a sideways glance as acknowledgement of his interruption. Then he turned back to Carmine. “Hello, director,” he said. “I need to know what the current situation is with the escaped mutants. I’ve got a plan underway to capture any of the remaining ones. It’s not our habit to work together, but this matter concerns us both and I need your help.”

~Carmine~

Carmine was at her desk, she had left Camelion where he was to rest, the snores having no effect to deter her from what she was doing. She had worked during Eriyk’s snores and through someone being interrogated or punished, this man’s quiet snores were as close as she got to silence these days. She then looked up as she heard a knock on the door and another man walked in. “Carmine, it’s Robert Wagner from Tracking. I’m sure you’re busy but we need to talk.” He was older, a full head of white hair and by the look in his eyes he had seen much in his time. He walked right up to her, giving the slightest of acknowledges that Camelion was there and spoke. “Hello, director, I need to know what the current situation is with the escaped mutants. I’ve got a plan underway to capture any of the remaining ones. It’s not our habit to work together, but this matter concerns us both and I need your help.”

She nodded, she remembered him, had seen him working with her father on occasion, but over all she didn’t need to keep too close track of their area. They found the ones to be tested on and they always did their job well in finding people who would not be missed by the populace. ”There are a few plans in place. I have one man working with my Eriyk to find a mutant that should contain all the files to the destroyed building. Another is going to be helping find the rest and I just received word on how to find a few that had been taken to the Institution, the damn thieves.” She pulled her hair back into a high pony tail, leaving her bangs out to fall across her forehead. She had just found the information she had written down that Dusk had given her and it didn’t match the story that Camelion had just given her. ”Anyways, you can go work with any of them if you choose to. What is the plan you already have in motion?” She looked up at him, the slightest hints of circles under her eyes from the lack of sleep she had gotten.

_Eriyk_

He was pretty sure he had the fight right then, as he was going to have the man out cold in this single move. He was slightly caught off guard as the man caught his balance and firmly placed his feet down on the mat. A punch to his hand broke the hold he had and the man’s back was to him, left leg out to kick him off balance. He hadn’t had an actual fight like this in awhile, the kick actually hit him. But he wasn’t going to get beat so easily.

He smirked as both his hands caught the man’s foot, yes the kick connected, he was slightly off balance, but had enough strength to reposition himself so that he could now pull the man back and down in one yank. ”Excellent, I haven’t had a real opponent in some time.” A quick peripheral glance gave him a few startled faces of guards who had never seen anyone last more than one move with him.

Scientist

He watched the two struggle through the maze, going through as fast as both were able to, helping each other along for a time. Again he was writing on the clip boards, and glancing into the maze to watch the progression. The new one, they didn’t have a name for this one yet as she was fairly new and the mutations didn’t bring any nicknames to mind, maybe she would name herself later or tell someone her name. Either way, she had seemed to fall behind, almost getting engulfed in the pillars. Dusk, the feline, had seemed to not care about her anymore, and left her behind to find the exit. She was close, but slowing her speed, and getting close to the pillars.

Dusk came almost to a complete stop as a pillar came up and singed her arm, he could tell she would need some care afterwards but wanted to see how far she could go. She sat there for almost a minute then, he supposed, the heated ground made her move ahead, and finally the open doorway was in front of her, but not out of the large room. They couldn’t have mutants running around by themselves now could they? He called for a guard to meet her down there first to give her a piece of the stale bread that would be her meal for the day and make sure didn’t run off before he could make his way down and assess her wounds.

Robert smiled. For her reputation, Carmine was surprisingly cooperative. Maybe that was her nature, or maybe she was just too tired. Dealing with the breakout had been time consuming enough for Robert. Surely Carmine hadn't rested since the incident.

“I’m in contact with one of the mutants. After a bit of coercion, he’s agreed to turn in the others that he encounters. I’ve no doubt that they’ll find each other. We will drive ourselves crazy hunting them. Instead, we’ll have them led to us. Once they realize what’s happening, though, it won’t be a quiet affair. I will need your support. My staff is trained to capture subjects for your tests, not to fight them once they have abilities. I will need your guards – whoever Eriyk can spare – to help detain them.”

Robert paused for a moment and reached for the taser gun holstered at his side. He always carried a pistol and a taser with him, though rarely had the opportunity to use either one. “There’s only so much a 62 year old man can do with one of these alone.” He laughed. “Perhaps I should speak to him myself, if you’ll tell me where to find him?”

She nodded at the man’s response, ”Good, I expect them soon. Make sure all of them are recovered; we can’t afford to go searching for others to replace them. Which would mean even more work for your department.” She straightened a few piles of papers on her desk and headed for the door. ”I do have a few other things to take care of. I was given some misinformation by one of the mutants we recovered and she needs to be punished, in order to make sure she doesn’t lie to me again.” She held the door open for the older gentleman and closed it behind him. ”Anything else that needs to be discussed?”

_Eriyk_

He was a bit surprised by this man’s resiliency, he didn’t go down but instead slid under him and even managed to make Eiryk loose his balance. He stumbled only slightly, able to gain his proper position only after a few seconds and turned to face the man. ”Careful big guy, I am no guard
” He almost laughed, that statement was almost too cruelly true. ”Oh I can tell that, would love to have some of them as trained as you are.” He also got in a stance, ready for the next round. ”Your move.”

Scientist

He got word on his way down that the other mutant in the maze had collapsed. He shook his head and told them to end the test. With that, the corridors moved once again, making a straight path from Aramay to the end of the maze where Dusk was waiting. He went right to her, motioning the guard to take some water to Aramay who still seemed to be struggling to move. He would have to write that down when he had the chance
But he had to focus on wounds first before information. He went right to Dusk, though she seemed different than when he walked her down here. She had a glint in her eye that told him the test had made her more determined to get out. He knew that defiance would be crushed sooner or later by one event or another that happened down here.

He took hold of her arm, looking at the burn without a word, not caring if she would attempt to strike at him or not, he would just have to make sure she was under sedation next time a test ended. He pulled a small jar from his pocket and rubbed a small amount of crĂšme on the wound, knowing himself that the pain would ebb slightly, the edge gone but the throb still present. He raised a small bottle of water to her, it had maybe enough for two gulps, which would keep her going for a day or two if that was all she got.

As the director ushered him to the door so quickly, Robert looked back at her curiously. “I know you must be tired, Carmine, dear, but you didn’t answer my question. I need to know where Eriyk is if I’m going to have his help on this.”

An idea came to him suddenly when she asked if there was anything else they needed to talk about. Shame on him for not having thought of it before. “And yes, since you asked. There is something else. My plan relied on the fact that the mutants would find each other on their own terms, but you seem to have a good idea on where some of them might be. If you’ll tell me where they are, I can send the mutant in my employ to their location. We can speed this process up considerably.”

He paused again before continuing. “So I need to know where I can find Eriyk and the escaped mutants.”

She listened to his request as she closed the door behind them and headed down the hall. It seemed he might be working with Peter then, both using Eriyk to find the mutants. She nodded, ”Eriyk is in the training room. You might be working with Peter, or going against him for Eriyk’s services. Either way, the mutants were last spotted at the Institution, but they have since been helped out. Once I find out where they are I will send word to you via Eriyk.” She started leading him to the training room then pointed further down to a set of doors. ”You’ll find him in there.”

Scientist

He watched the girl; she seemed too dedicated on her search for an exit. She had finished the water and was now searching for a way out of the little room she was in. He chuckled a little as her search would be futile, even if she did find the door, the guards and scientists behind it would subdue her. He went over to the other one, she was drinking the water slowly, but she also looked a bit different than what she did when she first came in. He would have to have someone monitor her to track the changes. But she didn’t look well enough to go through another round. He waved to the guard to take her away, let her recoup enough for a few tests or experiments.

He turned back to the cat mutant, still stalking around the walls; he figured she wasn’t going to give up on her search for a way out. He went over to where she was, not getting too close as she looked ready to swipe at someone and he didn’t feel like bothering with avoiding those claws. ”You aren’t going to get out anytime soon. You can give up your search for a way out, all doors out of here lead back to where you’re going to be kept.”

Guard

He headed along the hallway, a small stack of papers in his hand that were headed to the director’s desk. He hoped she wasn’t in her office, he hated getting the dirty looks he got when he dropped off the papers that she needed to sign, file or whatnot. He went through the door, looking inside briefly and almost sighed in relief that she was out. He went right to her desk and set down the papers. He turned to go when he saw someone sleeping on one of her couches. Going over to the man, he shook his shoulder. ”What are you doing in the Director’s office? You shouldn’t be in here.”

Robert Wagner

Robert walked with Carmine down the hall, grateful that she took the time to escort him. She was helpful, he noted, not as intense as he’d expected, yet very straight to the point. He understood how she intimidated so many people. As they walked and she answered his questions, Robert simply nodded. Poor girl, he thought. Spent her whole life in these halls. Then, a few seconds later, God, I sound like my father.

When they reached the training room, Robert smiled. “Thank you for your help. I’m sure we’ll see results soon.” As they parted ways, he told her gently, “You might want to put aside that insatiable need for vengeance inside you and take a nap. It will do you well. That poor mutant you mentioned will be there when you wake up.” He gave her a warm, almost grandfatherly nod. Am I that old? He wondered.

He started walking towards the door of the training room but instead of entering, he took out his cell phone and began entering Vincent’s number.

------------------------------------------------

Vincent Dupont

The last flames had died down around the burnt lab. Nobody had come to the scene or emerged from the building. In all that time, Vincent Dupont hadn’t moved. He’d lost track of time, sitting and thinking about everything that had happened in his 92 years. Mostly, he thought about meeting his sister – having a chance at normalcy for the first time. If Robert was lying, or if things didn’t play out like he’d promised, Vincent knew it would be the last straw.

He had to find those mutants just like Robert had asked. Then he had to find his sister. If he didn’t, then he’d kill himself. Both sounded equally rewarding.

Suddenly the small little object – the cell phone, Robert had called it – began to buzz and emit a happy tune. Vincent flinched, nearly dropping the thing before he realized this is exactly what it was supposed to do. Robert was calling him. It had to be. He stared at the tiny machine for a moment before he opened it like he’d been instructed to. He raised it to his ear and, taking a leap of faith, he said, “Hello?”

After a moment, a scratchy voice came through, which Vincent recognized as Robert’s. Amazing! He thought. There’s nothing connected to the phone. How can it work like this?

“Vincent?” Robert asked.

“Yes. Is me.”

“Have you found anybody yet?”

“No, Mr. Robert. I wait for the person find me.”

“Well you don’t have to wait anymore. I need you to visit the area around a place called the Institution.” Robert proceeded to give Vincent the direction, adding, “There were mutants in the area. We don’t know where they’ve ended up, but once we find out, we’ll be in touch. Do you understand?”

“Yes, Mr. Robert. I go there now.”

“Good. I’ll talk to you soon, Vincent. Thank you for your help.”

“I no choice, Mr. Robert. But if you are lie to me
”

“I’m not, Vincent, I swear. I can help you find your family.”

“I not like the hurt others.”

“Neither do I. But sometimes we have to – to survive in this world. Good bye, Vincent.”

There was a short click. Vincent kept speaking for a few moments to make sure Robert was actually gone, and then he closed the phone and trudged along, headed towards the Institution.

--------------------------------------------------------

Robert Wagner

Once the call ended, Robert turned towards the training room. He pushed through the doors to see the guard, Eriyk in a boxing ring with a man he didn’t recognize. Robert rolled his eyes. There’s no time for this. He considered using his Taser on Eriyk’s opponent, but judging by the small crowd that had gathered, it was a friendly fight. Which makes it even more purposeless. At least, he judged, the two men were not looking to kill one another.

Some of the other guards in the room stared as Robert entered, but the older man strode by them confidently and rested himself on the edge of the boxing ring. He stood in Eriyk’s line of vision and stared at him impatiently. The man would have no doubt that Robert was waiting for him. Just in case it didn’t end fast enough, Robert had his Taser ready.

As he waited, Robert tried to remember if he’d ever actually met Eriyk. He only knew the man from a distance, and he’d be surprised if Eriyk even knew who he was. Robert, however, was wearing a suit. That should get Eriyk to end his stupid duel.

Men in suits are always important.

She sighed a little after she left Robert there, she didn’t know if she should go take that suggested nap or not. She knew she needed to sleep eventually, but there seemed to be too much going on, too much that needed to be done. She didn’t feel like sleeping anyway, so she decided would hold off on the cat-girl’s punishment and go find out what was going on with her. She stopped a guard in the hall and found where the girl was and headed down to the testing rooms.

Scientist

He was actually quite amused with these mutants; he hadn’t worked closely with too many new ones, and now found the appeal. Their defiance to everything was as much annoying as it was interesting. Despite being how they were they expected to get out, did they think their lives were just going to go back to normal? Their appearances were changed as was a given with any kind of experiment, and their instincts would probably change, their reactions, they weren’t human anymore, at least not completely. The other wasn’t as dangerous though, the guard would just end up putting the female in an empty cell and make sure that the door was locked, but this one. He would have to find a way to get her out without getting to close.

He tilted his head at her statements at her decision at just sitting on the floor. ”Been changed a few days at most and already no longer consider yourself human? Interesting
Usually they hold onto their humanity much longer than that.” He looked yup as Carmine came into the room, she didn’t look too happy, granted that was norm when she came round here. ”To what do we owe this honor miss Carmine? Something strike your interest?” He saw a cruel smile come to her lips, one he had seen before and always sent shivers down his back. ”There are some things that I need to take care of.” He nodded, ”there isn’t too much here to do, besides getting this one to a cell.” Carmine looked down at Dusk and chuckled. ”Already miss behaving are we? You know punishments are worse than interrogations.” She crossed her arms, dark gaze unwavering from Dusk’s.

Guard

He tensed as a hand came out and wrapped around his neck. Human
? than meant that the man was a mutant, if he didn’t consider himself a human, did one get out? He was going to bring a punch down on the mutant when holding him by the throat wasn’t the dark haired mutant, but, ”Laura
” Her name slipped through his lips, how long had it been since he’d seen her? A year, more? Since he took the job here he knew that, he came back after a week and she was gone. His eyes were wide, staring at the one he thought he lost.

Aramay

Aramay didn't take the same actions as Dusk but there was something peculiar about the conversation between the scientist and Dusk. It was demeaning in almost every way and in a perfect world Aramay would have struck up a resistance of her own. It was only a guess but if Dusk indeed give up her humanity she likely held onto it much longer than he did. Dusk didn't have a choice in the matter either while the jerk of a scientist most likely did. Instead her rebuttal came out as, "She lasted longer than you." With very little if any vindictiveness present. Her chances of falling over or passing out were more absolute. His method of breaking someone down was effective, given enough time and she was aware enough that she recognized that.

She watches as another woman walks into the room and greets the scientist. She looked tired and almost as worn out as the sweating, shivering Aramay felt. With the way she was greeted, this wasn't a low rate/normal employee they were dealing with. It was another opportunity. One that she again did not have the strength or capacity to take on. She spent more time needing help with standing let alone resisting or fighting back. She looks at Dusk with muddled thoughts rattling off in her mind. A plan desperately trying to formulate but with not much success. Instead of breaking free from the guard and rushing Carmine she found herself being lead towards the door by said guard and undoubtedly to a cell. It occurred to her how unbelievably useless she was due to, whatever was going on with her. She couldn't put up a fight, physical or verbally. Every choice she made seemed to leave her worse off than she was before. The people she could have helped most likely would remember her for her temporary cowardice. Each new thought entering her mind egged on her suppressed paranoia.

Her heart began to race. Then, everything turned blindingly bright, before going dark all at once and she promptly hit the ground. This time without a sound, whimper, groan or any other sign of getting back up. It happened so quickly that for a second the phrase "dropped dead" was very relevant for Aramay until someone checks her vitals. Her breathing was still present if rather shallow and her heart was still beating though much faster than normal for someone unconscious.

Dusk

”Been changed a few days at most and already no longer consider yourself human? Interesting
Usually they hold onto their humanity much longer than that.”
"Does the physical make you human?" Dusk hissed. She had not claimed she wasn't human, but merely that the scientists saw them as less then human. The fact the scientist didn't even understand her infuriated Dusk further.
"She lasted longer than you."
Dusk looked quizzically at the woman. What was the woman saying? That Dusk was more human than the scientist? Probably, and in this case she was right. Anyone who was insane enough to do what he was doing to people was not human as far as Dusk was concerned. Dusk was about to say so, when the woman was dragged from the room. She turned back to the scientist, daring him to try and do the same with her when Carmine entered.
Dusk leapt gracefully to feet, back to the wall. Her claws unsheathed, and she waited tense and rigid for Carmine to reveal the reason behind her presence.
”To what do we owe this honour miss Carmine? Something strike your interest?”
”There are some things that I need to take care of.”
Dusk shuddered slightly, her liquid green eyes fixed on Carmine.
”there isn’t too much here to do, besides getting this one to a cell. Already miss behaving are we? You know punishments are worse than interrogations.”
Carmine's dark gaze cut into her own, and the full meaning of her words came clear. Her anger was still on a high, and before she could think of it, her mouth had uttered a cutting remark that she was certain she'd regret.
"Oh finally saw through a young girls lie did we" Dusk hissed, her voice dripping with venom "Wow, took your time"
Suddenly her anger fell through as a sudden realisation came over her. The colour drained from her face, and her body went limp, leaning against the wall. Her eyes darkened with sudden terror.
"How did you find out
" she whispered, her gaze dropping to the floor, before suddenly rising back to fix on Carmine's face. "You can't have found them. You can't have them...not here"
She choked, her voice breaking off. Carmine couldn't have found out about her lie without seeing them for herself, so she must have them within her grasp. Her will to rebel disintegrated. She couldn't stand to have the rest of them back here...they had already been broken too many times. Matt was strong, he would last a while, but Dusk doubted he could hold on for long...and then Ash...she was impervious to pain so she was probably the safest...Amp. The boy had nothing to help him. She'd seen his terror before

"What have you done to them?" her voice rose to a shriek, before dropping "What are you going to do to him
"
By the end of the sentence, her voice was barely audible.
She couldn't bare to think of them hurting the others...and that was when she remembered her own situation.
"Punishments are worse than interrogations
"
Her hands shook, what could be worse? Her hopes of keeping the dark, broken look the others had in their eyes disintegrated under Carmines hard gaze. Carmine had the means to break her, it was only a matter of time. At least her fury would be directed to Dusk and kept from the others she was certain were kept here

But how long for? She prayed she'd never witness the others being broken...That was if she survived the punishment that was looming.

She paused and her eyes got darker at the girl’s response. She would have to break her anger away and make sure never spoke like that again. She stalked closer as the girl seemed to break down, shrieking and almost sobbing with what she had done with the others. She smiled cruelly the girl just told her what she needed to break her, what perfect bait to get her to agree to anything. In another swift step she was in front of the girl and brought the back of her hand down hard on her cheek, the sound echoed in the small section they were in, she split the skin of Dusk’s cheek and she wiped it off her hand. ”Don’t speak that rudely again to anyone here or next time it will be worse than a bruised cheek you will get to your pretty face.”

She grabbed Dusk’s chin roughly with one hand, bringing her face up so her stare pinned her to the spot. ”We found them all little kitten, running for their lives. No one escapes; no one like you will get out of here unless it’s in a body bag. Each one of them is being punished for running away, they’ve been told for years it’s bad to do that.” She grabbed Dusk’s wrists before she could try clawing at her and dragged her along, out of the room and towards the rooms the mutants would call torture but she called her play rooms.

Dusk
Image

Carmine stalked forward and gave Dusk a harsh slap across the face. The breath was knocked out of her, and her head rebounded against the wall. She let out a soft cry as fire seemed to explode across her face. She could already feel her face swelling and she was sure her face was already bruising. To make matters worse, Carmine split her skin, giving her a narrow cut down her cheekbone. Her fear started her breathing in rapidly, and her chest rose and fell faster as panic set in.
”Don’t speak that rudely again to anyone here or next time it will be worse than a bruised cheek you will get to your pretty face.”
Dusk remained silent, refusing to give in, yet not mustering the strength to rebel which would ensure a harsher punishment. Carmines hand whisked out and gripped Dusks chin painfully, jerking it upwards and forcing her to look into Carmine's cold eyes.
”We found them all little kitten, running for their lives. No one escapes; no one like you will get out of here unless it’s in a body bag. Each one of them is being punished for running away, they’ve been told for years it’s bad to do that.”
Dusk let out a sob, her small frame shaking from terror and worry. Her eyes glazed over slightly as she thought about the others...each being tortured.
Please...no.
She couldn't get the words out, her face on fire as it was. She felt her wrists grabbed tightly, before she felt herself dragged out of the white room. Dusk felt numb, she didn't bother struggling. All of them, back. She couldn't bare to think of all of them in cells, each being tortured for a crime that simply included surviving. Mat, back in the arena, Ash subject to watching his pain, Nudge back to being beaten with Faith, Amp

The tears started to roll down her face, as she squeezed her eyes shut. In all her time at the lab, she'd avoided tears, thinking herself stronger, but not, with imminent death and torture for everyone she was close to, she didn't bother holding them back.
The further down they went, the more the screams echoes through, and sharp stabs of pain filtered through her flexible web of emotional turmoil. Every now and then, her body jerked as though a knife went through her hand, or a whip down her back.
Her back hit the stairs they went down as Carmine continued to drag her to her future...Dusk was sure she didn't want to know.

She continued down the halls, the screams echoing around her actually felt calming right now. She was starting to feel better, knowing that someone was causing pain to the mutants here. She dragged Dusk into the closest empty room and shoved her inside, letting her fall to the ground and closed the door. She took a few steps towards Dusk and the center of the room. She grabbed the chain that hung from ceiling and gave it a small yank to bring it down. Bending down to the girl on the floor Carmine grabbed her by the hair and pulled her harshly to her feet and swiftly chained her wrists together. Stepping back she went to the other end of the chain that was latched to the wall, she pulled on it until Dusk’s feet were barely touching the ground.

She knew by the way she talking back in the testing room that she was protective of someone, which one of the mutants she wasn’t sure. She remembered the ones Eriyk had told her about that were at the hospital and the ones Camelion told her escaped the Institution, it had to be them. She just wasn’t too sure exactly which one was the one would be the best one to make her break. ”You’re so new little kitten, don’t yet know all the rules here.” She walked over to the rack of various supplies and pulled down a silver colored whip. ”So I think you’ll get a lighter treatment than the others will, they know the rules after all.” She uncoiled the whip and brought it down hard against Dusk’s back, the silver metal tearing off strips of skin like her custom glove would do. She smiled as blood started to run down the girl’s back almost immediately. ”How nice to think, that they will suffer more than you will.” She brought the whip down a second time, and a third.

Dusk
Image

Dusk felt herself dumped onto the floor. She lay there limp and unmoving before Carmine started to come back. Panic rose and Dusk backed up before the woman grabbed a large chain that hung from the ceiling. The chain came tumbling down, and Dusk felt a sharp pain on her scalp as Carmine lifted her by her hair. She let out a soft sob before both wrists were jammed in the thick, black shackles joined to the chain. As her hair was released, Dusk stumbled forward trying to regain her balance before a harsh jerk upwards caused her whole body to be forced upwards. The black shackles immediately dug into her thin wrists, and the pain caused Dusk to desperately try to stand, dragging the tips of her toes into the concrete. The attempt failed, she was just too far from the floor to allow her to relieve her wrists, her toes uselessly moving across the cold floor. Her efforts only managed to sink her further into the shackles, as her hands desperately clawed at the above chain so she could hold on using her hands rather than her wrists. It was no good, her body wasn't made for strength, and her grip on the chain slipped, causing her to sink jarringly back into the cuffs.
She let out a strangled moan as the metal cut into her wrists.
”You’re so new little kitten, don’t yet know all the rules here.”
Dusk shivered, as she hung vulnerably from the chain, trying to awkwardly twist around to see what Carmine was doing. She regretted it, she automatically let the chain swing her back to facing that wall, trying not to think of what was about to come. Her breath came in shallow gasps, her position making it difficult to breath properly. The image of the silver whip refused to remove itself from her mind, her terror was plain.
”So I think you’ll get a lighter treatment than the others will, they know the rules after all.”
Suddenly the soft whistle of the whip came towards her and a sharp explosion of pain tumbled down her back. Dusk let out a tortured scream, yanking down on the chains in her pain. Her body trembled at the aftershock of the blow, her head fell forward allowing her dark hair to hide her face as it contorted in a mixture of horror and fear. She could feel hot blood running from the lash down her back as the pain settled to a dull roar.
”How nice to think, that they will suffer more than you will.”
Her head jerked upwards, her green eyes now misty with pain and guilt.
"Carmine...please" her voice rose to another scream as the whip laid open her back for a second time. Her wrists jerked again causing the cuts to start realise blood down her slender hands. She opened her mouth to beg again when the whip whistled down again, causing the words to lodge in her throat and another cry to fall out. Her eyes rolled back into her head as her body jerked once again.
"Please...let them go" she managed to gasp "I'll do literally anything just don't...don't
"
Her words wouldn't form properly, she knew it was futile, yet she had to beg. Her mind couldn't cope with the thought of anything worse than what she was going through. She hung limp in the chains, pleading Carmine with her eyes, imploring her to spare the rest of them.

Dusk’s screams from the whip were like music to her. She could tell the girl hadn’t gone through serious pain before. Her screams contained a mixture of fear, and agony that she only heard from many of the newer mutants. The ones that had been in this situation many times didn’t have the same type of scream, which mainly had defeat ringing through it, and muted agony. She found it a bit frustrating that after awhile they stop screaming as they figure out it does no good, and find ways of blocking out what was being done to them.

She chuckled, ”You think I need your cooperation? I can do anything with you that needs to be done. Bargaining isn’t going to change anyone’s situation.” She brought the whip down again upon the girl’s back, watching the line of blood appear and slowly slide down her slender back. ”Remember little kitten, your punishment is less than theirs.” She brought the whip down one more time making sure the sharp silver cut through fabric, skin, and muscle. She brought the whip up sharply so it nicked at the girl’s cheek before she rolled it up in her hand. He went over to Dusk, running her finger along the thin line of blood on her cheek. ”Red is a nice color on you.” She laughed and turned to the wall of weapons, hanging the still dripping whip on the wall and went to the door to leave.

_Eriyk_

He did bring it upon himself; he just didn’t expect the man to be so well trained. He came at him full force and put all his weight into each punch that he threw. He hadn’t had an opponent this good in some time and he was a little rusty with his defense, but he seemed to be doing well as he wasn’t hit too badly, and his defenses weren’t faltering. He was actually having a bit of fun, and watching the man’s movements, looking for any kind of pattern and lapse in his technique. He was caught off guard once again at his proposal, three good hits, and he would train the others for a week. It seemed like a pretty good deal to him, he had nothing to lose, and three punches would be achievable enough.

He would take it, nothing to lose, only gain. He waited for two more punches, then caught the man’s wrist with one hand, blocked the next punch with his own wrist of his free hand and drove a full weighted punch to his side. He knew it wasn’t strong enough to do too much damage, but might leave him breathless for a few beats. In a few quick steps he was out of reach and let him regain his stance. ”Sounds fine to me, would you rather get this over quickly or are we going to draw this out for awhile longer?”

She left the room, letting dusk just hang there. She knew that she wasn’t going to let the girl’s punishment end there. But she wasn’t too sure exactly how to continue. She headed down the hall, rubbing Dusk’s blood between her fingers. She was most likely splattered with the red crimson, and she brushed at her cheek smearing some of it. The guards she passed all gave her a wide birth, not getting close when she was covered in red was a smart idea as she could turn on them too if she wasn’t entirely focused on what she was doing. She walked a bit blankly down the hall towards her office, not entirely noticing the crowd that had gathered around the doors and were looking inside.

Two guards were dragging out a third that was whimpering and mumbling to himself, he looked close to the mutants that were broken in the cells. The guards stopped and stared at her, looking nervous at each other. ”What are you staring at and get him strapped down in one of the rooms.” The guards nodded and hurriedly walked away. She shook her head and went to her office and saw Camelion standing in front of another woman, and the color was drained from her face. She sighed, ”Camelion, leave my staff be, they have jobs they need to get back to.” With the second half of her sentence she shot a glare at the woman who then rushed off quickly like a frightened rabbit. Carmine sighed again and shook her head. ”They need to learn to be more emotionless, some emotions can be such weaknesses.”
