a character in “The Outside”, as played by yogitheambrangyl

Description

~Name: Eriyk Kenward

~Age: Not that he actually pays attention to when his birthday comes around but he does keep track. 29

~Gender: Obviously he is a male

~Skills: Eriyk is skilled in what he considers practical abilities, meaning hand to hand combat, and guns. He is adept and all types of combat and martial arts. He can take down any type of opponent no matter if he is the smaller of the two or if he is greatly outnumbered he generally never gets beaten in a fair hand to hand fight. He is also greatly skilled with almost any type of weapon, but his weapon of choice is guns. He has a wide knowledge of guns and can use them all, take them apart, and even build them from scratch. He has also created a few of the most known guns which helps the Lab with its finances. Surprisingly he is the main person who deals with all the paperwork that Carmine is supposed to do. She isn’t able to focus on things as intently as he is able to and so he ends up going through all the work for her so she isn’t swamped, and so things stay running smoothly.

Image~Description: Being the top guard in the Lab, he is very fit and has a fair amount of muscle on him. He has strong arms and a tight chest from lifting large amounts of weights and finely tuned legs from miles of running a day. His skin isn’t tan like you would expect someone like him would have, his skin is actually pale from being inside the same building most of his life, not that he cares too much about going outside. He stands about five feet eleven inches tall and his stature will usually intimidate anyone he comes across.
His hair he has cut short in almost a military style cut, he has it grown out a little longer than that but keeps it short so it doesn’t become a nuisance. Its color is light brown, in bright lights and sunlight, when he bothers to go out, it will look like it’s streaked with blonde. His eyes are a dark amber, looking like small pools of honey. They tend to stay dark most of the time, as he has a short temper with people sometimes and keeps focused on whatever task he has been given. If you ever catch him outside alone, his eyes will lighten up even though his expression wont. He is like the others who spend a lot of their time in the Lab; he craves time outside as well and takes advantage of going out when he has the time. He also has a tattoo across the right side of his chest; it’s a family symbol that they get when they turn eighteen, marking them to be next in line to be the lead guard.Image
He usual attire is the Lab guard’s uniform which consists of a black shirt, with a fair amount of padding underneath and the same with the black fabric pants. The padding helps with the troublesome mutants that have claws or any other type of weapons that they use against the guards. Along with the pure black outfit, the guards all carry weapons of their choosing. It stays strapped on them almost twenty four seven and their belt has a few compartments that they can fill. The typical things kept in the compartments are a few needles to sedate mutants they can’t beat into submission, a walkie-talkie for the newer people, and some simple restraints for the incoming people to be tested on.

~Personality: Others have described his attitude as cold, hard, or emotionless. He stays focused intently on whatever it is that he has been told to do, and he will carry out the orders best he can. He has no mercy for the people he hurts or those who get hurt through his actions. He does what needs to be done, does it efficiently and then goes to the next task. When he is talked too, he gets right to the point, states what needs to be stated or answers the question. He doesn’t beat around the bush and make his answers cryptic so you have to think, you get blunt answers and statements.
He is fiercely loyal to the Lab, growing up in the place has made him understand where his place is and who he should always fallow. He is even more loyal to Carmine than the Lab itself, he grew up alongside her in the hallways and always fallowed her with whatever she did, he learned his place quickly and doesn’t try going against it.
He does have a soft side to him, but it rarely seen and he always pushes the feelings away when they come up. He is slightly remorseful for hurting small children, he finds it slightly cruel at bringing in little ones that definitely can’t protect themselves or fight back effectively. Any one older than ten he doesn’t feel that way for, they tend to fight back and think for themselves enough to try and resist.Image

~Fears: Being brought up in the Lab, he isn’t easily scared of anything. The only thing that comes close to a fear, but is more like a worry thought some days, is that the Lab could be found out by the government one of these days.

Image ~History: His beginnings were much like Carmine’s except that his father had a wife somewhere that he was born to. He father didn’t visit her often and found out that Eriyk was born about a year after the fact. His mother had found a way to contact his father and had only done so because she was deathly ill. His father came, waited for his mother’s death and took Eriyk back with him to the Lab. Once Eriyk could get around on his own his father stopped watching out for him, Eriyk was allowed to go anywhere and was only told not to get killed by a mutant. He spent most of his time around Carmine, doing what he could to give her what she wanted, he figured out he was going to be doing what she said anyway, so he just listened and did what he was told. When he was finally old enough and strong enough to be of some service, his father took him out on a mission. A mutant had somehow managed to escape and they had to go find it, bring it back, and maybe a few others as well. He showed great promise as he found the mutant faster than some of the more experienced guards and managed to find a couple staying alone in the woods near the Lab. He continued training, getting stronger, but inside he kind of dreaded that his father was getting older and that he would become the leader next. He knew Carmine was slowly gaining the respect of the Lab and she would have her way but he didn’t want to end up killing his father in an all out battle for the right to leadership. But his chance didn’t come, as Carmine took his place in order to show that she wasn’t weak like the guards thought a female director would be. After a week of the fighting, she finally won and he stepped up to lead the rest.

So begins...

He watched the man in front of him remove the hidden guns and knives. He didn’t make too much difference to him whether he had them or not, but he figured having them did hinder the ability to move and this smaller man would obviously use a speed type technique to try and being him down. ”well big guy, you going to make a move or not?” He smirked, the man loosened, dropping his guard somewhat, leaving him open for attack. At least it seemed so; the men was placed perfectly so that if Eriyk did rush into the set up, he could be swept down on his back or even have his momentum used against him.

But why not trip this man up by going for it, he smiled. ”Being generous are we?” He went forward, going in for the obvious attack that was there by the man’s slight drop in his guard. So many times had he done the same to the other guards to train them up, he knew exactly what was going to happen, the man was moving to block him and was going to twist out of his reach. He changed his course right as the man moved, catching his shoulder with one hand, and his ankle with the other, using the momentum the man started on his own to send him on his back.

Carmine was at her desk, she had left Camelion where he was to rest, the snores having no effect to deter her from what she was doing. She had worked during Eriyk’s snores and through someone being interrogated or punished, this man’s quiet snores were as close as she got to silence these days. She then looked up as she heard a knock on the door and another man walked in. “Carmine, it’s Robert Wagner from Tracking. I’m sure you’re busy but we need to talk.” He was older, a full head of white hair and by the look in his eyes he had seen much in his time. He walked right up to her, giving the slightest of acknowledges that Camelion was there and spoke. “Hello, director, I need to know what the current situation is with the escaped mutants. I’ve got a plan underway to capture any of the remaining ones. It’s not our habit to work together, but this matter concerns us both and I need your help.”

She nodded, she remembered him, had seen him working with her father on occasion, but over all she didn’t need to keep too close track of their area. They found the ones to be tested on and they always did their job well in finding people who would not be missed by the populace. ”There are a few plans in place. I have one man working with my Eriyk to find a mutant that should contain all the files to the destroyed building. Another is going to be helping find the rest and I just received word on how to find a few that had been taken to the Institution, the damn thieves.” She pulled her hair back into a high pony tail, leaving her bangs out to fall across her forehead. She had just found the information she had written down that Dusk had given her and it didn’t match the story that Camelion had just given her. ”Anyways, you can go work with any of them if you choose to. What is the plan you already have in motion?” She looked up at him, the slightest hints of circles under her eyes from the lack of sleep she had gotten.

_Eriyk_

He was pretty sure he had the fight right then, as he was going to have the man out cold in this single move. He was slightly caught off guard as the man caught his balance and firmly placed his feet down on the mat. A punch to his hand broke the hold he had and the man’s back was to him, left leg out to kick him off balance. He hadn’t had an actual fight like this in awhile, the kick actually hit him. But he wasn’t going to get beat so easily.

He smirked as both his hands caught the man’s foot, yes the kick connected, he was slightly off balance, but had enough strength to reposition himself so that he could now pull the man back and down in one yank. ”Excellent, I haven’t had a real opponent in some time.” A quick peripheral glance gave him a few startled faces of guards who had never seen anyone last more than one move with him.

Scientist

He watched the two struggle through the maze, going through as fast as both were able to, helping each other along for a time. Again he was writing on the clip boards, and glancing into the maze to watch the progression. The new one, they didn’t have a name for this one yet as she was fairly new and the mutations didn’t bring any nicknames to mind, maybe she would name herself later or tell someone her name. Either way, she had seemed to fall behind, almost getting engulfed in the pillars. Dusk, the feline, had seemed to not care about her anymore, and left her behind to find the exit. She was close, but slowing her speed, and getting close to the pillars.

Dusk came almost to a complete stop as a pillar came up and singed her arm, he could tell she would need some care afterwards but wanted to see how far she could go. She sat there for almost a minute then, he supposed, the heated ground made her move ahead, and finally the open doorway was in front of her, but not out of the large room. They couldn’t have mutants running around by themselves now could they? He called for a guard to meet her down there first to give her a piece of the stale bread that would be her meal for the day and make sure didn’t run off before he could make his way down and assess her wounds.

She nodded at the man’s response, ”Good, I expect them soon. Make sure all of them are recovered; we can’t afford to go searching for others to replace them. Which would mean even more work for your department.” She straightened a few piles of papers on her desk and headed for the door. ”I do have a few other things to take care of. I was given some misinformation by one of the mutants we recovered and she needs to be punished, in order to make sure she doesn’t lie to me again.” She held the door open for the older gentleman and closed it behind him. ”Anything else that needs to be discussed?”

_Eriyk_

He was a bit surprised by this man’s resiliency, he didn’t go down but instead slid under him and even managed to make Eiryk loose his balance. He stumbled only slightly, able to gain his proper position only after a few seconds and turned to face the man. ”Careful big guy, I am no guard…” He almost laughed, that statement was almost too cruelly true. ”Oh I can tell that, would love to have some of them as trained as you are.” He also got in a stance, ready for the next round. ”Your move.”

Scientist

He got word on his way down that the other mutant in the maze had collapsed. He shook his head and told them to end the test. With that, the corridors moved once again, making a straight path from Aramay to the end of the maze where Dusk was waiting. He went right to her, motioning the guard to take some water to Aramay who still seemed to be struggling to move. He would have to write that down when he had the chance… But he had to focus on wounds first before information. He went right to Dusk, though she seemed different than when he walked her down here. She had a glint in her eye that told him the test had made her more determined to get out. He knew that defiance would be crushed sooner or later by one event or another that happened down here.

He took hold of her arm, looking at the burn without a word, not caring if she would attempt to strike at him or not, he would just have to make sure she was under sedation next time a test ended. He pulled a small jar from his pocket and rubbed a small amount of crème on the wound, knowing himself that the pain would ebb slightly, the edge gone but the throb still present. He raised a small bottle of water to her, it had maybe enough for two gulps, which would keep her going for a day or two if that was all she got.

Robert walked with Carmine down the hall, grateful that she took the time to escort him. She was helpful, he noted, not as intense as he’d expected, yet very straight to the point. He understood how she intimidated so many people. As they walked and she answered his questions, Robert simply nodded. Poor girl, he thought. Spent her whole life in these halls. Then, a few seconds later, God, I sound like my father.

When they reached the training room, Robert smiled. “Thank you for your help. I’m sure we’ll see results soon.” As they parted ways, he told her gently, “You might want to put aside that insatiable need for vengeance inside you and take a nap. It will do you well. That poor mutant you mentioned will be there when you wake up.” He gave her a warm, almost grandfatherly nod. Am I that old? He wondered.

He started walking towards the door of the training room but instead of entering, he took out his cell phone and began entering Vincent’s number.

------------------------------------------------

Vincent Dupont

The last flames had died down around the burnt lab. Nobody had come to the scene or emerged from the building. In all that time, Vincent Dupont hadn’t moved. He’d lost track of time, sitting and thinking about everything that had happened in his 92 years. Mostly, he thought about meeting his sister – having a chance at normalcy for the first time. If Robert was lying, or if things didn’t play out like he’d promised, Vincent knew it would be the last straw.

He had to find those mutants just like Robert had asked. Then he had to find his sister. If he didn’t, then he’d kill himself. Both sounded equally rewarding.

Suddenly the small little object – the cell phone, Robert had called it – began to buzz and emit a happy tune. Vincent flinched, nearly dropping the thing before he realized this is exactly what it was supposed to do. Robert was calling him. It had to be. He stared at the tiny machine for a moment before he opened it like he’d been instructed to. He raised it to his ear and, taking a leap of faith, he said, “Hello?”

After a moment, a scratchy voice came through, which Vincent recognized as Robert’s. Amazing! He thought. There’s nothing connected to the phone. How can it work like this?

“Vincent?” Robert asked.

“Yes. Is me.”

“Have you found anybody yet?”

“No, Mr. Robert. I wait for the person find me.”

“Well you don’t have to wait anymore. I need you to visit the area around a place called the Institution.” Robert proceeded to give Vincent the direction, adding, “There were mutants in the area. We don’t know where they’ve ended up, but once we find out, we’ll be in touch. Do you understand?”

“Yes, Mr. Robert. I go there now.”

“Good. I’ll talk to you soon, Vincent. Thank you for your help.”

“I no choice, Mr. Robert. But if you are lie to me…”

“I’m not, Vincent, I swear. I can help you find your family.”

“I not like the hurt others.”

“Neither do I. But sometimes we have to – to survive in this world. Good bye, Vincent.”

There was a short click. Vincent kept speaking for a few moments to make sure Robert was actually gone, and then he closed the phone and trudged along, headed towards the Institution.

--------------------------------------------------------

Robert Wagner

Once the call ended, Robert turned towards the training room. He pushed through the doors to see the guard, Eriyk in a boxing ring with a man he didn’t recognize. Robert rolled his eyes. There’s no time for this. He considered using his Taser on Eriyk’s opponent, but judging by the small crowd that had gathered, it was a friendly fight. Which makes it even more purposeless. At least, he judged, the two men were not looking to kill one another.

Some of the other guards in the room stared as Robert entered, but the older man strode by them confidently and rested himself on the edge of the boxing ring. He stood in Eriyk’s line of vision and stared at him impatiently. The man would have no doubt that Robert was waiting for him. Just in case it didn’t end fast enough, Robert had his Taser ready.

As he waited, Robert tried to remember if he’d ever actually met Eriyk. He only knew the man from a distance, and he’d be surprised if Eriyk even knew who he was. Robert, however, was wearing a suit. That should get Eriyk to end his stupid duel.

Men in suits are always important.

Dusk’s screams from the whip were like music to her. She could tell the girl hadn’t gone through serious pain before. Her screams contained a mixture of fear, and agony that she only heard from many of the newer mutants. The ones that had been in this situation many times didn’t have the same type of scream, which mainly had defeat ringing through it, and muted agony. She found it a bit frustrating that after awhile they stop screaming as they figure out it does no good, and find ways of blocking out what was being done to them.

She chuckled, ”You think I need your cooperation? I can do anything with you that needs to be done. Bargaining isn’t going to change anyone’s situation.” She brought the whip down again upon the girl’s back, watching the line of blood appear and slowly slide down her slender back. ”Remember little kitten, your punishment is less than theirs.” She brought the whip down one more time making sure the sharp silver cut through fabric, skin, and muscle. She brought the whip up sharply so it nicked at the girl’s cheek before she rolled it up in her hand. He went over to Dusk, running her finger along the thin line of blood on her cheek. ”Red is a nice color on you.” She laughed and turned to the wall of weapons, hanging the still dripping whip on the wall and went to the door to leave.

_Eriyk_

He did bring it upon himself; he just didn’t expect the man to be so well trained. He came at him full force and put all his weight into each punch that he threw. He hadn’t had an opponent this good in some time and he was a little rusty with his defense, but he seemed to be doing well as he wasn’t hit too badly, and his defenses weren’t faltering. He was actually having a bit of fun, and watching the man’s movements, looking for any kind of pattern and lapse in his technique. He was caught off guard once again at his proposal, three good hits, and he would train the others for a week. It seemed like a pretty good deal to him, he had nothing to lose, and three punches would be achievable enough.

He would take it, nothing to lose, only gain. He waited for two more punches, then caught the man’s wrist with one hand, blocked the next punch with his own wrist of his free hand and drove a full weighted punch to his side. He knew it wasn’t strong enough to do too much damage, but might leave him breathless for a few beats. In a few quick steps he was out of reach and let him regain his stance. ”Sounds fine to me, would you rather get this over quickly or are we going to draw this out for awhile longer?”

Now that she was mostly done with what she had planned to do she knew that she had to fallow through with her deal with Camelion, she would have to find a way to get this spider mutant from inside the Institution. But who to send…she got an idea, as many were searching for the lost mutants, she could find another use for Peter Tykwer, send him in, looking like a scientist, amsk or not he may be able to blend in, and be able to bring the mutant back.

_Eriyk_

Eriyk smiled, the man could bring a, and had a great defense as well, but he had been in enough fights and been trained well enough to see the holes in all of it, granted he had some himself, no one could be perfect. He got back in his stance, guess it was his turn to be on offense, test out this man’s defenses. He went forward with a flurry of jabs and punches, just simple things so Eriyk could learn this man’s defenses well and find the chinks that he could get through. Once he found a repeated drop in his defenses, he went for it and sent a hard punch right to his shoulder, which caused him to falter and his arm lowered. He hooked his foot behind the man’s and yanked back, so he would lose his balance and stumble, with this he hit him one last time, a hard punch to the face, enough to give him a bloody nose but not hard enough to break anything, though it was quite noticeable that with the tremor of his arm that he held back greatly in order not to hurt the man farther. ”Seems that’s three…”

Healer

The woman looked down at the girl in front of her, she girl was badly wounded, back cut open, cheek cut, wrists badly damaged and it looked as if older wounds had been reopened. She knelt down, gently patting the girl’s untouched cheek, it seemed that was the only place she wasn’t hurt or covered in red. ”Wake up child, don’t sleep. You’ve lost a lot of blood, stay awake for me, just for a little while then you can rest.” Her gentle voice was probably out of place in here, but she knew that the badly wounded needed some kind of gentleness to off balance all the pain that they went through. She couldn’t stop what happened but at least she could lessen the pain and help them to heal best she could. She very carefully lifted the girl, careful to make sure not to hurt her too much and headed back to the Healer’s area, she would make sure the girl stayed there until she was better, maybe even fed if she could get her hands on some decent food.

He was truly surprised when his fist didn’t connect with a head and instead met the open air. Jeeze this man could move fast, he was unprepared when legs came up and wrapped around his neck, and pulled him forward. He saw the ground come up fast and he was going to roll forward to stop the fall but he knew he was too close and would snap his neck that way. He hit the ground and blinked a few times, his head ringing. But he was far from helpless, true he hadn’t been brought down in a long while, but that didn’t mean he was just going to stay on the floor. He saw a foot coming right at his head and he lunged his body to the side to avoid the blow and grabbed the man’s leg once it planted on the ground. He tugged up while he quickly forced himself back on his feet, causing the man to fall flat on his back. He brought his leg up behind him to deliver a hard kick to the man’s side and hopefully cause him to fly out of the ring.

scientist

He walked along behind the guards, he had learned long ago not to walk in front because the mutants seemed to get more feral around him rather than the guards. He found that reasonable, he changed them, and made them they way they were, the guards just disciplined them or beat them for fun. He motioned to a room and the guards dragged the squirming mutant in and to the table in the middle of the room, strapping down her legs, arms, and a strap went across her chest. The guards left the mutant alone and stood back, staying on the inside of the door incase the mutant somehow got out of the bonds. The scientist went over the counter that ran around the room, and wrote something down on a clipboard. He picked up a small flashlight and a few other tools and went over to the mutant who seemed to be trying to avoid the bright light above her. He held her head firm and opened one eye, shining the light in it, and then opened her mouth, placing one of the tools inside to keep her jaws open.

Healer

The woman frowned at the girl’s response. She glanced around making sure she was out of hearing range of guards or scientists, she hated they way the mutants were treated, so beaten and broken, and she knew that they were probably nice children and people. ”I’m sorry child, I won’t let you die. Help you heal yes, let you die no. There are others that need that release more than you right now…” She took her to the back corner of one of the Healer’s quarters, the woman liked having one of the back corridors, she could make sure the mutants stayed there, got well, fed regularly and untouched, seeing as the guards weren’t allowed to stay longer than dropping someone off, and the healers usually went and brought the mutants back anyway.

She gently laid Dusk down on her stomach on one of the cots in the room. A few others were occupied, as a few found out she would let them stay a bit longer than it took for their wounds to heal and regularly found ways to be sent back here without the continual beatings. The woman got a rag and a bucket of warm water and slowly started to clean out Dusk’s wounds.

She walked down the hallway to the guard’s training room; she knew she was going to find Peter there. She waltzed in, and noticed there wasn’t anyone on the weights, the treadmills, or any of the other equipment in the room. There was some cheering and bets being made near the fighting ring and she walked over. Eriyk was in the middle of a fight with Gabriel. She watched for a second, glancing around and noticed that Camelion had made his way over as well. Seems everyone likes a good fight… She thought to herself. She spotted Peter out of the crowd and put a hand on his shoulder. ”I have a new task for you. You will be going to the Institution, make sure that they think you work there. I want you to bring back a spider mutant, named Kumo. Now go.” The man gave her a stare through his mask, she could tell that he hated being told what to do but there was a slight relief in his eyes, probably from being taken off the task to find his son. It didn’t matter to her, as he eventually went off; she just hoped he didn’t screw it up.

scientist

The mutant struggled against him, obviously not liking the light at all as her pupils didn’t retract at the light. Vision probably only meant for the dark, and the molars were mostly gone. All of the lose one he pulled out, prodding at the gums to see what kind of teeth were underneath. After a few minutes he left her mouth alone, putting a set of headphones on her head. He went over to a machine that they were connected to and turned a knob. He started at a low frequency and turned the volume up high, waiting for some type of reaction to it as he slowly turned the dial, increasing the frequency to note how far the range of hearing went.

Amp

He was slightly confused as they continued through the strange building. There were some white rooms but it didn’t look like the doors would lock shut, there were cracks around the entire doors anyway, easily broken down and escapable. When they got to the next room, it wasn’t just a room, there were rooms off of it and everything looked so strange, there weren’t scientist’s tools, no bright lights, no tables that were used to strap you down onto. This place was so confusing, yet he felt that he could relax, not worry, it was strange to him and he retreated into the back of their mind in order to think about this, though his thoughts were simple, he wanted to try and make sense of it.

Blast

He could feel that Amp was perplexed by this place, the strange colors the strange objects in the room that only he could see that could still be used to hurt them. Then Amp went to the back of their mind leaving him to be in control while Matt dropped them off in a room. He winced as his arm was jostled, he figured it was broken, not like it hadn’t been broken before but this time it felt different, like it wasn’t quite in the right spot, plus a healer hadn’t come to check on him so he figured they did something to make sure it fixed itself in the right spot. There was a scream from another room and he felt Amp cower in the back of their mind, while he mentally rolled his eyes and walked to go see what was wrong, holding his arm close.

He almost had him, that’s what kept playing through his head as the man ducked around him, sent a foot straight to his abdomen and then declares the fight over. The kick alone had the enough force to send him over the ropes, which he almost did, if he hadn’t managed to slide his right foot backwards at the same time as impact and he mainly kept his balance. One thing he was confused about was the time limit, he couldn’t remember him putting one down, telling him he had to make three hits in a certain amount of time. He honestly felt jipped. Either way he the man jumped over the ropes, landing next toe Carmine, he sighed a little, slightly upset that he didn’t get to finish the fight and waved the others away. ”Get back to work.” He saw a lot of disappointed faces and a few collecting money, apparently only three or four thought it would come to a draw. He rolled his eyes and hopped out of the ring also.

~Carmine~

Carmine watched the end of the fight, wondering who was going to win when Gabriel jumped out of the ring, Eriyk after and the rest of the guards went back to whatever they were doing. “So, Director, you gonna brief me and your big guy here now or will I have to wait for our dinner together to get the skinny?” She smiled briefly, ”Eriyk this is Gabriel and you’re going to go after the mutants.” She glanced over at Robert who was nearby and nodded his way. ”He has a mutant near the Institution looked for the ones that were spotted there last. Peter, the one in the mask, told me of another that should be in the hospital. The one is the hospital is a cyborg, the other three are a fire mutant, ash and smoke, and one that is sound. You can take the Hounds to smell them out if you need them.”

Healer

She was just about finished with the bandages when the little girl squeaked ad hid under Dusk’s cot. The woman turned to find out who had walked in the room and a hand was round her throat, feet off the floor. She struggled, surprised then noticed she couldn’t breathe and tugged on the female’s hand. She heard Dusk speak something, but her ears were ringing and she couldn’t pick out the words fully, then she was on the floor coughing. Quick glance to her side and she saw the girl trembling under the cot, not making a sound as she knew that would get her unnoticed and it was habit by now. There was another in the room who rushed forward toward the one who was going to strangle her. She reached in her pocket, grabbing the needle she had in there and stuck it swiftly into Kyra’s leg, giving her a large dose of sedative, enough to put any type of mutant down for an hour at the very least. She caught the girl as she fell and put her on a cot next to Dusk’s, and noticed her wrist had blood but was already healing. She glanced back at the other who was holding Dusk and put her hand out. ”It’s ok, let her go…” Her voice was soft, not falsehood to it as she took a small step to the girl.

He chuckled, ”Of course I won’t go unarmed, follow and I’ll show you where the nice stuff is.” He nodded to Carmine and walked out; glancing back once to make sure that Gabriel was following. He led him down a few hallways and when they got an area, almost deafeningly silent because there were few screams coming from the area; he unlocked a set of double doors. He pushed them open, revealing a large room with black cages inside. He led the way in, ”This is where we keep all the weapons. You can choose anything you want, we have almost everything. Some that haven’t been allowed in society yet…still getting the glitches out.” He went to one of the far cages, swinging the door open and pulling out different parts to a gun. He put it together, obviously one he made himself as it didn’t look like any other but his hands moved deftly, the pieces falling into placed as he put them there. ”If you want to work lethal, there’s talk of mutants in the city, by their descriptions, I’m pretty sure they aren’t going to be needed later.”

Healer

She thought she saw the female lowering Dusk when she was hit across the room. She stumbled over a cart of bandages and supplies. Her head was ringing and she was seeing spots, she could’ve sworn that the girl was out. But sometimes the sedatives didn’t always take effect right away. She heard footsteps running out of the room and a quick glance up she saw Dusk being taken away by the other. She pushed herself up off the ground as guards rushed in the room at the commotion, some heading after the other two. ”Bring the unconscious one back here! She isn’t well!” She didn’t know if the guards would listen to her, but usually unconscious mutant were either brought here or left alone, what would happen to the other she wouldn’t know. Guards shot at Kyra, some taking her down and making sure she was restrained. Someone found the cat-girl under the bed and dragged her out, her screams being ignored. The Healer got up to go and help her but the guards dragged out the girl that looked no more than nine.

He grabbed guns from their spots on the walls, strapping them on and picking ones out for Gabriel as well. ”Such a shame we have to leave now, the Games were going to start soon. Maybe they will last long enough for us to come back and watch the end. Sometimes these things can last days.” he led him out, making sure to lock the door before he left and headed down the halls to the where the Hounds where kept in cages. He went over to the large cage where the Alpha was kept and opened the door. Immediately the human wolfoid creature launched itself at him. He knocked the creature down to the ground and held its head down until it started whimpering. He nodded and grabbed one of the specifically made collars and put it around its neck. He then let out the others who followed the alpha. He pressed a button and the wolf yelped then with a flick of his hand, the wolf followed Eriyk’s command to move, the rest flanking and moving out the open doors.

Guards

They gathered a few more mutants in cages similar to the one that Kyra was being kept in, each one an animal type mutant, each in its own cage with no way to see outside or know what was going to happen next. Once all of them were up to strength, as a few needed to be sedated, doors at the opposite end of which they were tossed in, opened up. Revealing inside a large open area, maybe one of the only areas that did look like the outside, except for the large stadium like structure that stretched around the entire almost half a mile in diameter circle. There was a dirt area, short badly kept grass; even a few trees and a dark smudge that if looked at closely, could be made out to be a pond with stagnant water. Three more doors, evenly placed around the stadium, opened up and cheers erupted from the hundreds of guards present as the next Games were about to begin.

Meanwhile, in all the cells and the little resting rooms throughout the Lab, hidden screens in the walls turned all for all to watch. The camera went passed each of the mutants slowly coming out of their cells. A small creature that most would recognize as a Hound stepped out into the light, its small frame made it obvious that it was a runt and regularly beat on by guards and other hounds alike. Next was a small girl, a black cat tail swishing, and small hands over the black cat ears against the noise, bright green eyes wide with fear. Another girl was shown, with dark black hair and wings, looking both scared and furious at the same time. Lastly, the large feline that was a tiger but larger than average which made the ferocious look in the felines eyes stand out even more.

He headed out with Grabiel at his side and the Hounds behind them. He lead them right to the large black vans and got the hounds all inside of one and hopped in, opening the door that easily blended in with the wall and drove out, quickly leaving the Lab behind as they headed down the dirt road towards the city.

He chuckled at the girl, watching her as she squirmed in the chair, practically begging for the scorpion to be taken off. ”Now why should I do that? We’re just getting started here.” he stepped back from the writhing girl, back into the shadows of the room and went to another cage and pulling something out. ”We have to get over your fears little one. You won’t be any good if you’re running away all the time.” He stepped over, this time a tarantula on the palm of his hand.

The Games

As the tiger stalked over, the hound took off, running fast straight at her. Its jaws open and snarling, both in anger and hunger. Once it got close enough it leaped, hind legs pushing off the ground with force that one wouldn’t think would be possible from such a frail looking creature. It landed on Kyra’s back, its two inch long claws digging into her flesh, clawing and trying to find a good hold and its maw bit at her, trying to get at her neck to end her.

Meanwhile, since the tiger was occupied, the winged girl took off, wings outstretched and going straight up in an attempt to get out of the deadly arena. A roar of laughter rose up from the crowd of guards as she hit an invisible barrier, sending an electric shock through her that caused her whole body to freeze and stop working. She fell down, spiraling down to the ground and crashing into the cat mutant who was running for the scant trees scattered around.

She twitched as she heard her door open and someone hesitantly take a step inside. She sat up from her spot on the couch, finally getting some kind of rest today. Her dark eyes found the intruder, a scientist bringing a thin file over to her. She brushed back her long black hair over her shoulder and stood. ”What is it now?” The scientist almost flinched at her harsh comment, her voice hard from being woken up from her nap. ”I am sorry to bother you Lady Carmine, but the guards have brought a new subject in. I was coming to see what you wanted done with her.” She took the file from him, looking at the picture inside of the small girl. ”We just lost a flyer in the Games, seems we need a replacement now. Get to it.” She gave the file back to the scientist and shut the door on him. Now that she was awake, she wasn’t going to be able to go back to sleep, she might as well get something done. She went to her desk and sat down, working on the paperwork piled on top.

Guards

As soon as Kyra walked through the door, it slammed shut, leaving her in a dark, solid metal room with no way out. Guards were still going back to their places, relieving the ones that had stayed behind to keep a look out on the mutants while they watched the Games over the screens scattered around the place. One stayed behind, going over to the cages bellow that kept the mutants either going in or the mutant coming out. Whichever mutant won tended to be taken care of more than the others, at least for a few days, getting better food, and water regularly throughout the day. He went to the supplies that was given and pulled out a large slab of meat and a bottle of water. He opened a slot in the metal door and shoved the meat through and tossed in the water, and lastly flipped a switch that turned on a small light in the room. It wasn’t over powering like the ones in the cells that kept the mutants from sleeping, or the direct light from the experiment and testing rooms, this one was set off to the side, was slightly muted so there was a dark corner, allowing the mutant to sleep if they so wished, or be awake if they wanted.

scientist

The scientist walked down the halls to the nicer rooms that the mutants were kept in. Sometimes they weren’t seen to for days, or were taken right into experiment rooms. It let them get comfortable here right before they were put into the empty cells, with no furnishings, no windows, a single bright light and a small window in the large metal door without a handle. They were animals after all; they didn’t need the luxury that the human population liked so much. He went to the door and opened it, seeing the small girl inside he went over, ignoring any protest she may have given, any questions, pleas for help, or any begging. He had done this so many times no amount of emotion seen in the subjects could bring out sympathy in him. He dragged her to an experiment room, and more or less threw her on the table, and cuffed down her wrists and ankles.

He and Gabriel walked through the streets, following the strange reports and sightings. Talk of a large creature, almost scorpion like was ravishing through the city, scaring people, knocking over cars and coming close to killing people. Eriyk knew that this creature was probably a mistake; it wouldn’t be able to be controlled so he sent Gabriel after it, to kill it, get rid of any evidence, while he went after the talk of a winged child somewhere near the woods.
