Nathan Darga

"I'm not a bad person, I just want the cash"

0 · 592 views · located in The Lab

a character in “The Outside”, as played by Shané

Description

~Name: Nathan Darga
~Age: 18
~Gender: Male
~Skills:
Not anything major. Nathan has really only just started working properly for the Lab. He does however keep a pocket knife on his person at all times, and is rather nifty with it, though nothing amazing.
~Description:
Nathan has brown hair with lighter streaks running through it. It is rather long, and comes down in a straight side fringe across his face. Nathan has average brown eyes that reflect his carefree attitude. He's not exactly what people would call attractive, but he has a gentle smile and a rather cheeky grin to match. Nathan is also rather tanned revealing his rather outgoing nature and his love of the outdoors. He is not overly muscular, but neither is he weak. He has a rather slim build, yet definitely has strength in his arms, if not in his legs. Normally he wears rather laid back attire with loose fitting black jeans and a red or black top. Sneakers are his preferred style, though at the moment in order to be taken more seriously he has attempted to adjust that.

Personality

~Personality:
Nathan's a rather typical teen. He has a rather laid back view on life, and is rather humorous and relaxed. This being said, he is changing. After acquiring a job in the lab, he has started to get a little darker in personality, though he still has his light friendly side. To his mates and girlfriend, he is fun loving and enjoys a good joke. Always good-natured, though can be a little over thoughtful sometimes. He has started to develop a rather serious side as well, sometimes withdrawing from an evening out finding himself thinking over things from work. He is honestly a rather kind hearted guy, unfortunately having an ideal dream of money to support himself isn't helping.
Nathan has started to develop a rather ruthless and dangerous side as well. Due to his job in the lab, he has started to develop a respect for torture and other evil tasks. He concludes that it is not right for normal people, and at first he was against it altogether, however he gradually started to train his conscious. Now he is comfortable seeing it done to mutants, though sometimes his conscious still gets him watching young children or woman getting hurt, though his excuse is that technically they are not human. He tells himself that they don't truly have feelings, and is starting to convince himself. Even so, he can't stand "normal" humans being tormented, and so far has managed to avoid those circumstances in the lab.

~Fears: Losing his girlfriend and mates or having them find out what his job entails. He also fears losing his job.

History

~History:
Nathan grew up with an average childhood. He has two parents that love him, had a good education in the small town located near the forest. He enjoyed his sport, and did rather average at school, before dropping out in year eleven finding himself what he considered "a substantial" job. He was seventeen at the time, and was going out with Sasha Morten, now his ex. He got along with Sasha well, before falling for a blonde in the neighbourhood. He decided against breaking up with Sasha until he was certain that he would have the other girl, so he stuck with her until the incident on her eighteenth. Her family was rather wealthy, and were holding a major dress up party for Sasha at their estate. It was in a Victorian style and they were all requested to dress up for the occasion. Good naturedly, Nathan dressed up for the occasion in a Victorian styled suit, and met Sasha early in her black corset dress. He could tell something wrong and found out rather quickly that Sasha was unhappy at home. She visibly relaxed as he assured her it would be fine, and not to do anything "drastic". The party went well until Nathan spotted the blonde, Cassey. He didn't mean to, but he found himself talking to her and getting along quite nicely. He was quite taken with her, and sometime later found himself with a second girlfriend.
The next morning he woke up with a rather bad headache and was given the news that Sasha was missing. He felt the guilt badly, though his love for Cassey allowed him to stick with her even through the guilt. He was concerned for Sasha, but convinced himself that it was not his error and it was going to end "sometime" anyway.
By that time, Nathan was working for the Lab. He started out being a janitor, which paid extremely well for what it entailed. He was forced to sign a contract of secrecy, though quite frankly with the money in his pocket, Nathan couldn't care less. Soon however he started finding out stuff as he was required to clean in the more hidden parts of the facility. Soon he was getting double the pay, but finding himself deeper in the Lab, learning about the mutants and cleaning the interrogation rooms. He convinced himself that the mutants were not human and it didn't matter. After a while he became intrigued with the work, and after an incident involving him peering through one of the barbed windows and witnessing (albeit with a narrow view) a interrogation he decided to get better pay it may be worth getting a little more involved. The first few times, cleaning up, Nathan almost quite, finding it inhumane, however after a time he grew to accept it. He has just recently requested Carmine if he could become more involved and will be scheduled to watch his first proper interrogation soon. (this is just an idea, I was wondering if this could be Dusk's?? Might create a bit of drama)

So begins...

Nathan Darga

Nathan waited in the corridors of the Lab with sick anticipation. The white room before him held the tiny letters "Interrogation Room". There were screams all around him, though he hardened himself to their voices. They weren't real humans anyway he told himself as he slowly paced. Today would be another large step closer to helping humanity and, as Nathan preferred to put it to ease his conscience, a small raise to help him become motivated. Nathan's dark eyes lightened a little at the thought of the pay check awaiting him at his apartment. He had worked for the lab about a year now, starting out as their janitor. Nothing big, just cleaning office's etc. For some reason, working at the lab required he sign a contract of secrecy, and Nathan though his curiosity was piqued, signed without much consideration. The pay was rather ridiculous for a janitor, making him able to ditch school and live on his own. Later he had requested whether he could become more of an "asset" to the facility, in hope to raise the pay even further. After some rather uncomfortable interviews, and finding himself revealing a lot more than he wanted to, Nathan had received a higher bill, and a harder hurdle.
He'd never been down into the "No entry" section before and as soon as the door was open a chorus of screaming and pain filled voices floated through. He had at that point almost quit. Almost. Until he'd found out what they were. Even so, Nathan still shivered. They were mutilated, not human, less than animals. They provided a danger to humanity, and hereby to keep them under control had to be kept weak. He'd been instructed that in order for him to help his society, this was necessary, and people would be really thankful for it.
Even after all this was explained, there was still a doubt in the back of Nathan's mind, and he decided once he'd got home, that he would no longer work for the facility. That was until he checked his mail. The pay check held him back from the phone. He returned the next day, with determination. He would do his bit to help...He had quailed once again at seeing the interrogation rooms he would be forced to clean, starting out with blood covered floors and later to removing bodies. Each level up had been eased into, and each step made easier to cross his personal boundaries. The bodies had disturbed him. So many childlike and many young woman. Yet he reminded himself, they were simply in humanoid form, not humans. They actually had the nerve to attempt to appear more human. And where did they come from? Nathan stiffened at the thought and pushed it back, they had to born that way. As soon as he thought it, he moved from the topic and continued to pace.
Today he would get his first taste of a proper interrogation, help even further...and of course up the bounty. Even so, he had seen the tools lined up on the bench and felt a little uneasy. Then again he'd seen them before, they had to be questioned, after all they could help us cure so many diseases and enhance our lifestyle. He just prayed that whoever...No! Whatever it was being interrogated was not so humanoid and more mutated in appearance in order for him to remind himself of what it was.
He had been told this thing had escaped from another branch of the facility and that it had endangered many lives. They needed to figure out more about what happened including who- what else escaped with it and where they were.
He was only to watch, though perhaps whoever carried out the interrogation would explain the process or allow him to do a small bit. It really depended on the person. Personally, Nathan would prefer him to explain each method and perhaps allow him to try on of the simpler methods on the mutant just to get a bit more of a gip on it. Or to help tame yourself and get used to torture- No, it wasn't torture. That was for humans, pain was the only thing that worked on the mutated and because of their mutations they didn't actually feel much. They just overacted to invoke pity. Nathan told himself sternly.
He tried to take his thoughts away from the situation and thought of Cassey, his newer girlfriend of about a few weeks. He smiled as he saw her face in his mind, before her picture was altered and the face of his ex filtered through. Nathan started guiltily. It hadn't been his fault she'd gone missing. Ever since her eighteenth, the day she went missing, his conscience had bugged him. Sure he had found Cassey that night, and sure it would've hurt her, but it was going to happen eventually. Besides, she didn't have to run away. But you knew that she was thinking about it...with what was going on in her family...you knew. Nathan gritted his teeth. So what? He wasn't the one that ran off.

He turned once again and paced back down the corridor with sick anticipation..

Commanding Guard: Eriyk

He was slightly surprised at how much commotion there was in the hospital, granted he had been in very few. The Lab did have its doctors and healers so there wasn’t much need to go to a normal hospital where they would constantly ask questions about you and where you came from, make sure you were a person in one of their many systems. That was one reason he had avoided them, and any type of government run facility, there was no record of him as an existing person anywhere. But that was what you got when you were born to the Lab, for the Lab, it was the same for carmine and a few of the other guards, they never existed, and most likely never will as far as the government was concerned.

He fallowed the shadow along the wall, intending to capture the two that were traveling through it. Then suddenly the lights went out, everywhere in the building systems shut down, anything electronic turned off, and in a few seconds a strange muted light came back on and things started working again. He lost sight of the shadow for a few seconds but the darkened light helped him find it more easily. Most usually saw things moving around in the shadows, the darker the area was, the easier it was to see the things moving around in the dark. The more you focused on the shadows, the shapes stood out more, and the more practiced you were at it, you could make out the spirit or thing that was moving about.

He quickly caught up to the swiftly moving thing and could now make out that it was definitely a mutant, one with wings and she was carrying a small boy with her. Obviously they knew they couldn’t stay in the hospital and were trying to get out. He immediately caught the girl, sliding a tranquilizer bullet from his sleeve and sliding into her neck. He was near the door, in one of the darker shadows in the corner and with a chanced glance through the glass doors; he saw a set of vans being stopped by the normal officers. He cussed and laughed mentally; he knew Caine had gotten a few he couldn’t collect and was about to take off with them; he wasn’t going to like telling carmine that he had lost them. But on the other hand, he was being stopped and that gave him his chance to get out. Then one of his mutants possibly knew one of the others and would be helpful in getting them back, and telling if there were any more.

He picked up the girl and the boy, laying them each on his shoulder, and walked out with them, moving swiftly to the trees. He knew how to move in the shadows, without getting anyone’s attention and didn’t even get the tenseness of anticipation anymore at being caught by the normal federal officers.

He saw that the girl he had brought out earlier was unconscious on the ground. He nodded, they were always much more compliant when they were unconscious, there was less screaming, less fighting, it made his job so much easier. He set the two that he had down on the ground, and barked out a few orders to the guard that was already there. In a few moments, the hounds were awake, standing submissive to him and the mutants were tied to their backs and ready to go. He glanced around, noticing that not all of his men were there. He quickly called in for a chopper. It would wait there for the stranglers and take them back. He whistled once and the hounds took off at an alarming pace with him right behind. Some were slightly curious about his ability to run so fast, as he was keeping up with the fast hounds and not breaking too much of a sweat. But that was why he was commander wasn’t it.

Carmine

She was not a patient person, and this waiting was making her more irritable. She was wondering when the others were going to come back, what information there was, and hopefully the government hadn’t gotten involved at all. Then she got a call, she rushed over to her desk, swiftly pulling the phone to her ear. ”Hello!? Speak. Now!” The frightened man on the other side spoke quickly, he could tell that she was not in a good mode and didn’t want to make it worse. ”The northern facility has been taken care of, there’s no trace of it anywhere now. All mutants found inside were dead, but there is evidence of several escaping, anything worth salvaging is heading back now and your guards are bringing back any mutants they find.”

Finally there was some good new coming from the explosion that had caused her so much grief and many headaches. ”Thank you, the moment they come back, send them down to the chambers. Let’s see what information we can get out of them.” She put the phone back on the receiver, and sighed, rubbing her forehead. Thankfully the building had been taken care of before she got the call that someone had found it. There had be reports of some inspectors snooping around she was glad she hadn’t heard of them coming to bother her again.

She glanced at the papers that littered her desk; she didn’t want to have to deal with the task of going through them, signing off on things and doing a desk job that she had to find someone to do for her. She would ask Eriyk to do it for her later. He knew how to deal with the paperwork as easily as he could subdue any mutant in the building. He was brute strength but she was glad he brains as well, she was tired of guards coming in that could barely write their own names. She left her office and headed down the hall, the cool air from the vents brushing against her bare torso and long legs she left exposed with the small shorts.

Getting down to the lower chambers she almost felt at home as she started hearing the screams that were muted in her office upstairs. She noticed that there was a boy pacing back and forth in front of the empty interrogation room she had prepared for her next use. She glanced him over, her dark hair falling over one black eye like it normally did, the deep crimson tips brushing against her stomach. ”Who are you? You better not have been messing with any of my toys inside there.” She crossed her small arms across her chest, with a slightly stern look on her face that had most people thinking she was about to hit them, which she usually did when she was in a foul mood.

Nathan Darga

Nathan started as he heard a voice. It was not a good voice. Harsh and irritated. Knowing the people who worked here, Nathan didn't want to irritate anyone. He turned to she Carmine. Oh Gosh! He was in trouble if he angered her. He stood up a little straighter, thanking his stars that today he'd tidied up better, and had wore jeans that actually fit him and a decent shirt. This was soon forgotten as he looked at her. Man she was pretty. Obviously not as good as his Cassey, no blondes grabbed his attention, but wow. He controlled himself and managed to hold in a wolf whistle. No Cassey would not like this girl. She would know he was taken by her. Her long black hair reminded him of his previous girlfriend, and another pang of guilt ran over him. Her figure was perfect, if slightly thinner and paler, once again startling in contrast to his ex. He held in a sigh.
As much as Carmine was attractive, those eyes were far from it from Nathan's perspective. They were dark. Really dark and dangerous too. They seemed to stare right into him, and Nathan took a mental note to avoid situations where he would need to lie. Hell! She seemed to stare right through him.
Finally Nathan managed to realise that Carmine had spoken, and this required an answer.
"I am Nathan Darga, Miss. I am not messing with anything of yours, however I previously requested a higher job involving interrogating the mutations. I was told to wait in order to watch a true interrogation in action, which I am looking forward to serving the facility"

Gosh that was gay! He was not pleased with his answer, he had tried to act a little more formal, however that just wasn't his style. He was more relaxed, never saying more than he had too, but he could not take his words back. He just prayed that Carmine would accept it. All he really wanted to do now was start the interrogation...kind of. He just wanted to do the right thing...the right thing that involved the cash. No- that is not my main purpose. He lied to himself. It's not about the money, it's about helping humanity...isn't it?

Carmine

She raised one eyebrow at the boy’s statement. Obviously her presence seemed to stun him or caught him off guard. That had happened before and she wasn’t surprised, she hadn’t seen the boy before, or at least she didn’t remember him if she did, and so of course her direct question and attention to him would bring out a slightly cheesy and over worded answer. ”You want to be an interrogator, Nathan? Strange position to be asking to join.” She slightly remembered the name, someone they had hired just to clean up the rooms that they used. She wondered slightly if he had asked just so he could get a hire pay, if that was the case this interrogation may scare him out of that. Or if he got through it, she could train him to be a good torturer like she had done with the others.

She flipped her hair over her shoulder and strode into the room. She always checked over her things before the actual people got there, making sure all her toys were in order. On the side wall there was a gleaming silver rack, with many metal instruments. An assortment of knives, which ranged from butcher knives to tiny scalpels to swords were all precisely placed in their own spots. Then there were a few whips hung on their hooks, ne with long leather strips and different sizes of sharp metal at the tips. The other was made purely of metal, stitched together so that each strike would cause the metal to tear off long strips of skin on the person instead of just leaving the small slices. And of course, her specially made glove and she used in almost every interrogation. It hung down, the small knives and blades freshly cleaned and polished so it almost sparked to her eyes.

She smile and turned to look around the room, glancing at the few placements she could put the incoming mutant in. there was a place along the wall, where she could chain them up and turn a small wheel that would cause sharp spikes to drill into their back. Or there was the table, where they would be staring into the white lights of the ceiling. And lastly there was the chair, she could strap them in and use some of the electric toys she had on a separate rack near that one. She turned to the boy.

”Where would you start? What would you use?” she wanted to assess what he already knew about torture, about bringing the most pain to the person without them actually falling unconscious first. If he had good enough answers, she might even use the idea’s on the first one they brought in to her.

”I like the way you think. Between physical pain and psychological...Yes, the spikes are for the non useful ones. To get the last pieces of information and the most screams. The chair tends to be for the mutants that have been here for awhile. Most of them are used to pain and need a higher level of it to get what is needed out of them. The table is the best for psychological pain, which is necessary for the newest ones. They need to be broken first, submissive, so there aren’t so many issues. Depending on the mutants the guards bring in will determine which place they will go…”
Nathan grinned with the obvious praise. He was starting to enjoy this, torture was truly an art. By this time, the anger was going through his veins, and the savage side that is in us all, came out and through Carmine was fed. Eventually though he wanted more, he needed blood. To avenge whatever the hell the mutants had done to ordinary people, the legal people. His anger continued as he dimly noticed Carmine's voice was no longer directing towards him.
He let his eyes roam back over the instruments, fuelling his anger and allowing adrenaline to get the better of him. The soft side was shut away as he attempted to get himself in the mind frame fro success and also money.
He was growing increasingly impatient. The sick anticipation he had previously had now dissolved into one of savage enjoyment. The anticipation grew stronger as he prepared himself. Finally he could contain it no longer.
He turned to Carmine.
"Do you know what time the mutations will arrive?"
As soon as the words were spoken, Nathan came back to the surface, and he realised he had spoken without being asked. In a normal situation, this would not be a big error, here he felt it could be bad. He hoped that his previous answer would please her enough to overlook his mistake.
The anger was still there, but diminished. In the fear of the moment, he realised how far he had changed and managed to control himself a little better. In all truth he was a little shocked, and not overly pleased...

Carmine

She was lost in her thoughts, previous tortures, different techniques she wanted to try out, and old ones that she hadn’t used in a while when a voice brought her back to the room. She was caught up short, no one spoke to her so casually, the only other person who spoke to her like that was Eriyk. She stood from her half lounging position against the table and turned to Nathan. Her dark eyes were even darker at the outburst from the boy, her dark hair around her making the effect even more menacing than she knew.

She was going to get mad at him, but it dawned on her his tone of voice, and the look he had that split second before it was replaced by hidden fear behind his eyes. She could use that anger he had shown before, as long as he was loyal, anger was good, in the right places for the right purposes. He asked when the mutants were coming and she smiled a little. The side of her lips rising up in almost a smirk. ”Eriyk is coming with them. They should be here soon as long as there were no complications.” The boy was anxious to learn more about torture, and the anger was put in the right place. She could tell that it was a good decision to let Nathan have a higher position.

Eriyk

They had finally gotten to the Lab, the large white building looming up in front of them. He was somewhat relieved to get back, he hadn’t been out that long and he was already sick of the outside. All the people, the noise, and the prying eyes to whatever he was doing. He preferred the isolation, that was how he grew up, and that was how it was going to stay. It was better to stay in the building, in the training rooms, watching a Game or two, and if he did decide to go outside, it was always in the quiet of the woods.

He brought the hounds to a stop just inside the doors of the Lab, which slammed shut as the last one came in. The large metal doors closed with a hallow clang and the outside blended in with the outside, hiding the entrance seamlessly. The guards waiting for them unstrapped the mutants and the hounds were heard down to their cells. Eriyk took a quick glance at the ones that he had caught, silently wishing in his head that he had gotten more and that damn Caine hadn’t intervened.

He saw that one of them was awake, the first one he had gotten, the feline mutant. He had almost forgotten about the deep scratches that he had on his arm. He would have to tend to them, and let Carmine deal with the girl for him. He glanced at the other two, the winged girl was still unconscious and the boy was obviously very weak. ”Take them to the healers. Send them to their own cells when their strong enough for it.” He glanced back at the feline, who was obviously frightened, and he wondered how long she had been at the Lab. Probably not long by the look of her, she still had muscle, definition to her body, much unlike the ones who had been in the Lab for years. ”I’ll take this one to Carmine, she might have information.” He smirked and grabbed her by the hair, pulling her along, ignoring her struggles against him.

Carmine

She glanced over at the boy; she could tell that he was getting anxious, wanting to get on with the torture. She was the same, she wanted Eriyk to hurry up, so she could her frustrations out and finally calm down. This anxiety increased as she heard footsteps coming down the hallway along with faint noises of someone struggling. She smiled, and went out to see who Eriyk had brought her. She saw a girl, her black hair wrapped round Eriyk’s hand, keeping her tethered to him. Her skirts and bodice were well worn and in tatters. She thought that once the dress would have been a lovely piece of clothing, but the wear and tear had dirtied it, and it was no long salvageable.

She noted that the girl didn’t look as beat as the others tended to be and knew immediately that this one had to be beaten down. The look in the girl’s eyes was that of curiosity and fear of the things around her, not the terror that didn’t fade from the regularly beaten. She stood on her toes, giving Eriyk a kiss on the cheek a smile that almost seemed sweet. ”Thank you so much! I can have fun with this one.” Eriyk smiled back at her, and gave her a small bow. ”I thought would like a stress reliever, and could use some fun.” Eriyk strode into the room and at Carmine’s instruction, strapped the girl down on the table. ”Have fun little kitten.” He chuckled and walked out to leave Carmine, and the boy he just noticed was there, to their work.

Dusk
Image

Dusk felt herself released and she fell to the floor. The moment of respite was slight as the same man that had taken her gabbed her by her hair and dragged her down a corridor. The bright lights and white paint gave her a bone chilling reminder of the lab, and she started to struggle though it appeared that it made no difference, beside increasing the intensity of the pain from being dragged by her hair. Suddenly they stopped, and she found herself letting out a small gasp as the tension on her hair lessened a little.
”Thank you so much! I can have fun with this one.”
Her breath caught in her throat.
”I thought you would like a stress reliever, and could use some fun.”
That was all she was? A stress reliever. Fury mixed with terrror shone in her eyes as she twisted to get a glimpse of whoever the man was talking to. She immediately wished she hadn't. The woman was thin and arrogant in appearance. She was attractive, no doubt about it, but all Dusk could think of was what this woman was going to do to her. Her cold black eyes roved over her like she was some scientist deciding the best way to stick a pin through a specimen. This did nothing to calm Dusk down, it was too similar to what was probably going to happen.
Suddenly she was forced to move again, into a new room. Dusk didn't like it. She used the remaining ounce of her strength to try and get away, before she was finally lifted and thrown onto some sort of bench. Her arms and legs were immediately strapped down, before the man learnt over her.
”Have fun little kitten.”
The words sent a chill down her spine, and she threw her head to the side to try and figure out what was around her.
She immediately wished she hadn't. The wall was lined with so many knives…
She looked away before her eyes met with another's. Her mouth opened in wordless shock.
Nathan?

Nathan Darga
Image

Nathan heard the commotion in the hallway as Carmine went out to receive it. He decided to wait in the room for the time being. There was a brief exchange of words, before a larger man carried something in with his back towards Nathan. Whatever it was it was putting up a struggle. He smirked, not for long. Finally the man walked away and Nathan was able to get a good look at the thing he was to watch being tortured.
His face whitened, and his breath was drawn short. He started to shake as a thrill of cold terror coursed through him. He managed to take a few faltering steps towards the girl, before forcing himself to stop. Her thin frame was strapped to the device he had suggested, her long black hair splayed out around her head. Suddenly her eyes locked onto his own, and he was forced to endure her gaze. Her eyes were large and filled with terror, before recognition flowed into them. An expression of sorrow and then confusion flittered over her features, before it settled on hope.
He backed away, his face bloodless.
Her eyes were a startling, unnatural green.

"Is she a shape shifter?" His voice came out husky and thick with emotion. She had to be. Sasha didn't have those eyes, no she had deep dark brown eyes. Even so she wore the same dress from the eighteenth. A strange feeling of love and tenderness rushed over him as he remembered the evenings they'd spent together before….before she went missing. The love was suddenly replaced by a pained expression. This was not her. This...this thing was trying to hurt him, make him guilty for finding Cassey and letting Sasha leave. He had heard that some mutants could change form and read minds, this one was obviously the same and trying to make him feel guilty. His anger started to build. He was going to kill it. How dare it pretend to be Sasha Marten? His fists clenched at his side, forcing himself to stay put. Not that he could move if he wanted to. He could neither help nor hurt it, both anger and sadness washed over him in waves. And all the while that awful things deep green eyes begged him to release her...no it.

Carmine

She waited for Eriyk to strap the girl down. She watched, looking to see what kind of mutant she could be. Eriyk pretty much gave her the answer with the simple word of kitten. She could the pick out the features attributed to a feline mutant, the small frame, lithe figure, the almost glowing eyes, and her nails seemed slightly thicker than normal’s nails would have been. He eyes flicked over to Nathan, and his reaction wasn’t one she expected. The boy whitened, stiffly took a few steps forward then, stopped and his emotions played over his face. She watched, and his emotions conflicted with each other. ”Is she a shape shifter?”

She glanced between the two as he asked the question and she strode over to her shelf. She pulled down a simple knife, twisting it between her fingers, and being practiced as she was, she didn’t draw blood on herself despite the freshly sharpened blade. She wanted to see more of the boy’s reaction, he obviously knew something, or he was having second guesses about learning from her. She would squash those feelings, for him to be useful to her, she would have to bring out more of the anger, and make sure it was directed appropriately.

She held the knife loosely in one hand and pointed the tip to the girls eye, pushing down ever so slightly so her eye lid opened, just like she would with an animal. She saw the fear in the girl’s eyes, and hope that flashed there when she was looking at Nathan. ”No, she isn’t. You can tell because her frame is so small. These eyes are bright, used for seeing in dark places.” She brought the knife up off the girl’s face and pointed it at the girl’s hand, pressing the tip on one of her fingers, drawing blood but at the same time pressing precisely so her nails would unsheathe. ”Shifters can change their whole appearance, not a single part.” She turned back to Nathan, and decided to see how far she could push him. ”Where should we start then? You’ve done nicely with deciding where to put her.”

Nathan instinctively stiffened as Carmine pointed the knife at the mutants eyes, making them enlarge for a second.
”No, she isn’t. You can tell because her frame is so small. These eyes are bright, used for seeing in dark places.”
No. The word broke into his thoughts like ice. If she wasn't a shifter this was Sasha Marten.
He watched through hopeless eyes are as Carmine pressed the tip of the knife down on one of Sasha's slender fingers, suddenly a claw unsheathed. Carmine was talking, but Nathan was having trouble listening. That single claw. Anger stirred in him once again. All this time and she had never told him? He gave her a visible glare, watching as her eyes changed and she shrunk back further. He convinced himself that she had lied to him. He was going to pay her back. She opened her mouth to say something, before Carmine spoke.
”Where should we start then? You’ve done nicely with deciding where to put her.”
Carmine obviously was curious about his reaction.
"I don't know enough about torture to decide. Whatever it is, I want it to kill her in the end, but not before she suffers and reveals everything she knows" his face was dark, and his voice split the air like ice "She lied to me. She must have. I used to know her…" he managed to choke out, revealing how much it was hurting him.. He wanted Carmine to know what was going on. He needed her to trust him, because he was going to work for her and get revenge.

"Is she a shifter?"
Nathan's emotion filled voice shocked her. Why was he here? Seeing him bought back so many memories...it hurt. He had left her for one of her friends. Even so, that was the least of her worries. She had thought perhaps by some miracle him being here would mean she might get out alive. At first he seemed scared and the blood drained from his face, he wasn’t' expecting her. Even so, she couldn't help silently begging him to get her out. Something in his expression changed as her torturer told him that, no she wasn’t a shifter.
The tip of a knife was pressed carefully under her eye as Nathan gave her a hate filled glare. She shrunk back before something pricked one of her fingers forcing her claw to unsheathe. If anything Nathan's expression grew darker. She opened her mouth to explain herself before the ladies cold voice broke her thoughts.
”Where should we start then? You’ve done nicely with deciding where to put her.”
Dusk stiffened at the words. He decided to put her here? That was when Nathan replied. His hate filled words rocked her to the core. Tears rose unbidden in her eyes.
"Nathan I didn't…" she choked out "They did it. They changed me. I didn-"

"I don't know enough about torture to decide. Whatever it is, I want it to kill her in the end, but not before she suffers and reveals everything she knows. She lied to me. She must have. I used to know her…" She raised an eyebrow at the comment. So the two know each other, this could be more useful. She liked the way his words came out, so dark and ready to draw pain. But there was a pain behind them, something she would have to get rid of.

"Nathan I didn't…They did it. They changed me. I didn-" She frowned, spun on her heel and slapped the girl. She could see the instant red hand print on the girl’s cheek and the quickly forming bruise. ”Quiet!! I shouldn’t hear words out of your mouth unless they are answers to my questions. I doubt Nathan wants to hear more lies come from you anyway.” She didn’t particularly care if the girl told Nathan lies or truths, but she was going to make sure that they all sounded like lies to him anyway.

She had noticed the dried blood on the side of the ruined dress and figured that she had been hurt there before. She swiftly drug the knife down the girl’s side, slicing into the wounded flesh and bringing out a good blood flow but not enough for the girl to start feeling light headed. She then slammed the knife down through the girl’s hand; Carmine knew enough about anatomy to make sure that the knife didn’t severe anything important, or even cut through any major veins. Blood dripped from the edges of the knife but for the most part, the main pint of the action was to bring pain. She strode over to the shelf, picking out a few more knives. ”Now for the questions. Which I expect to be answered truthfully and quickly. Or there will be punishment for it.”

She strode over and point the hilt ends towards Nathan. ”You can deal out punishment if her answers aren’t quick enough or if they show any hint of being untruthful.” She turned from the boy, leaving him with the freshly sharpened knife, and one in her own hand. She looked down at the girl, the tips of her hair brushing against the blood on the table from the side wound. ”Who else escaped with you? We know there are others so you can’t say there wasn’t anyone else.”

Eriyk

He walked down the hall towards the healer’s quarters. It was a separate section almost separate from the rest. He hated the damn healers but he knew they were necessary. Most of the healers hated the treatment they gave the mutants, mainly because the ones they brought to them were almost dead and the guards that went in only had small scratches and cuts to get bandaged. But their pay checks kept them coming back and working, and as long as the mutants were kept alive and in some shape or form, useful, they would continue to get paid.

He walked into the large room; a few scientists were walking to the different mutants, each one strapped down on a bed, an IV in one arm, the ones who were awake either didn’t dare make a sound or were whimpering softly to themselves. Healers were bustling around, checking wounds, getting bandages, rushing for needles and pain killers. Granted Carmine gave them a limited supply of those, they used them as much as could on the worse of mutants. He noticed that the two he had brought in were already there, strapped down on beds next to each other, a single healer working on the two of them.

He went and sat down in the chair one of the assistance had directed him to, while another checked out his arm. He rolled up his sleeve, which caused the scabbed over claw marks to start bleeding again and the healer ran for bandages. He honestly sat there completely bored. He had seen this before, had been in here multiple times and each time it never got any more interesting for him. He felt the Lab could do without a healer’s quarters and should just let the weak mutants die. If they could stay alive on their own they shouldn’t live. He waited for the assistant to tie off his arm and quickly left. He would rather be in a training room instead and headed in that direction.

Dusk's sentence was interrupted abruptly as she got a hefty slap from the female. She let out a gasp, as a rush of pain filled her head and she forced to remain silent. The side of her face was inflamed and she could already feel the deep bruising.
”Quiet!! I shouldn’t hear words out of your mouth unless they are answers to my questions. I doubt Nathan wants to hear more lies come from you anyway.”
Obliging Dusk remained quiet. Tremors ran down her slender form as a mixture of terror and heartache effected her. She glanced up at Nathan's face, but there was no comfort there. His face was dark and anger flashed in his eyes. She wondered exactly what had made him so different, and why on earth would he work at the lab.
Suddenly a knife pierced her injured side and she barely managed to hold in a shriek as the blade slid down her damaged flesh. She could feel a sufficient amount of blood pool down her side, but to her dismay there was nothing to help her sink into unconsciousness. She distracted by the pain, and didn't notice as Carmine lifted the knife again. Swiftly is was brought down straight through her hand. She let out a uncontrolled cry of pain before clamping her mouth shut. She drew in a hasty breath through clenched teeth as her eyes rolled back somewhat, trying to deal with the pain.
”Now for the questions. Which I expect to be answered truthfully and quickly. Or there will be punishment for it.”
She shut her eyes instinctively, blocking out the white lights and both her interrogators dark faces. She purposefully gave no sign that she had heard Carmine, however her white face gave her away.
”You can deal out punishment if her answers aren’t quick enough or if they show any hint of being untruthful.”
Again Dusk forced herself to remain motionless, though her heart rate quickened. She kept her eyes firmly shut, her lips tightly pressed together.
”Who else escaped with you? We know there are others so you can’t say there wasn’t anyone else.”
She stiffened at the question. She would answer questions related to herself and that wouldn't hurt anyone else. She stayed silent before a knife pressed it's point into the sole of bare foot. It started to go in slowly, increasing the pain until she forced herself to answer.
"Just...just two. Just the one's you have" Her voice was strained, and rose in pitch as she struggled to stop herself from screaming. The blade stopped going in, but was not removed.

Nathan watched Sasha with a blank expression. He forced himself to hide his emotions, though there was no longer any regret. His anger had taken over that. He ignored her response claiming that the institution had transformed her. No one would create something that hideous. She was born that way, and she had lied to him.
He watched as one might observe a scene from behind a piece of glass as Carmine dug her knife into Sasha's side. The girl remained silent, though her face was strained and the clenching of her jaw betrayed the pain. His placid expression shifted slightly as Carmine drove her knife through the mutants hand causing her to cry out. He flinched a little, his smooth surfaced expression rippled slightly as a still water ripples as a pebble is thrown in. He quickly mastered himself as Carmine passed him a knife. He gripped the handle so tightly the veins in his hands stood out and his knuckles became white and bloodless. He used the blades handle as a tangible way of keeping a grip on himself.

As Carmine questioned Sasha, the girl remained motionless and silent. She was being stupid. Carmine would get the answers out of her soon enough. Who cared about the others anyway? They were also just scum waiting before they could have their last breath. His irritation grew. He gripped the knife tighter before pushing the blade slowly into Sasha's foot. Right in the middle was wear it was most painful, and he purposefully took a long time pushing the blade in slowly increasing the pain. As soon as she answered Nathan stopped pushing it in. He was unsure of whether this was the right answer as he was in the dark of the circumstances surrounding Sasha's recapture. As a result he kept the blade in, neither increasing nor decreasing the pain. He waited for Carmine to respond.

Carmine

She was a little disappointed that the girl didn’t answer her question right away when she said that she wanted answers right away. She glanced at Nathan and noticed he was already pressing the knife she gave him, into the sole of the girl’s foot. She nodded with approval; the spot would bring out the most pain with the least amount of damage. ”Just…just two. Just the one’s you have.” Carmine liked the way the girl’s voice rose and was strained to keep from screaming. She shook her head, she didn’t understand why the mutants bothered to try and save the others, it just caused more pain for themselves. Granted she wouldn’t lessen up on the pain either way. ”Don’t lie to me child. Why would you be here if those two were the only ones?” She glanced at Nathan, giving him a slight nod to continue with the punishment he was giving.

She turned, going back over to her rack of toys and waiting until she heard the mutant’s screams. When she didn’t hear any words from the girl’s mouth she glanced over the items on the rack before turning around. ”I’ll ask again. Who else escaped?”

As Carmine nodded to him, Nathan dug in the knife even further. Suddenly it hit something hard. Bone. Immediately he wrenched it out, covered in her dark blood, before pushing it into the other foot. His anger leant him adrenaline, and he wanted nothing more than to watch Carmine teach her a lesson.
All the guilt he had felt over her vanished, and he felt as though he avenged himself for the wrong she had committed him. He twisted the knife in his grasp, causing deeper and more painful wounds to the soles of her feet. No doubt it would take her a while to walk on them again without pain.
He looked down at her form, and even in his fervoured state, he still felt a little tenderness for her, though the anger far outweighed it. They could have been together if she had been honest. At this thought the knife went further still.
Carmine requested a response again as Sasha desperately tried to keep her silence. He gave her a hardened look, warning her not to deny Carmine the answer. Then again, he half wanted her to keep silent to watch Carmine at work.

”Don’t lie to me child. Why would you be here if those two were the only ones?”
Dusk let out a weak groan as the knife suddenly hit bone, then it was wrenched out, taking more flesh with it. Her eyes flew open and she let out an ear-piercing shriek as it was buried into the next foot. The pain intensified, and she desperately tried to pull her legs out of the bounds that held them in place, this only succeeded in cutting her feet more. The knife suddenly twisted, and she could no longer hold in a bone chilling scream.
Her hands clenched into fists, aggravating her left hand which had been stabbed right though. Still she forced herself to reveal nothing.
”I’ll ask again. Who else escaped?”
"Please…" she let out a strangled gasp. "I can't tell you"
Her voice rose to another scream as the knife was pulled out of left foot. The slight reprieve was sure to be over soon, as Carmine examined her other tools.
"Nathan…" her voice was barely over a whisper "If you want to kill me kill me now...don't let her find out...I can't tell her"
Dusk's voice was hoarse and her eyes were glazed over, as she struggled to compose herself enough to speak. Her chest heaved in an attempt to get enough oxygen to keep her alive. Half of her wanted to desperately to tell Carmine, to stop the pain. But deep down she knew that revealing anything was not going to stop it. She couldn't let the others down, if she only had too, as far as it was up to Dusk, Carmine would stay with just two besides herself. She was at a disadvantage not knowing who the two were, if Carmine asked for a description she would have to keep quiet. The others had gone through far worse she would stay silent. For all of them, for as long as she could. She didn't over estimate her strength, she would tell eventually...but not now, just not now....

Suddenly Carmine came over with three knives. Dusk stiffened before one was driven though her right hand. She yelled out in pain, her eyes rolling into head, only to have her scream as the other two found their places through her ankles. Her back arched in pain, rising it above the bench before her bonds forced her down again. The movement did nothing to ease her, as even the slightest move pushed her ankles into the blades, cutting them even more.
”Now kitten, no one is going to die or be killed. Not yet, for a long time if I have anything to do about it.”
Dusk let out a crumpled moan through clenched teeth at her words. Her helplessness only intensified as Carmine went back over to her rack of knives and Dusk was forced to lie still and endure. It was really the only thing left for her to do, that and scream...or as Carmine wished and talk. The pain was making her ears ring and she could barely focus her eyes as a red mist seemed to cover them each time another punishment was delivered. Suddenly Carmine returned, her face dark and angry.
”I’m done being nice now. I want answers.”
That was when Dusk saw the glove. Blades were positioned all over it, each one glistened and she could not draw her eyes away from the torture device they beheld. Each one was sharpened to perfection, and through the pain in both hands and feet, Dusk stiffened as she realised how much more pain she could be in.
”Who? How many, and what can they do”
The evil looking glove lowered to just above Dusks thin frame, over her stomach. Her whole body trembled as she tried to summon the will to defy Carmine. The glittering metal decided along with her bleeding hands, feet and side.
"Eight" Her voice was barely audible "...eight."
A soft sigh escaped her lips. Then she remembered the next question. What can they do? Fear showed itself in her eyes as she realised how close she was to telling Carmine. She couldn't give that much away...but the glove. It sickened her to see it so close to her stomach. The pain was weakening her and consequently the barrier blocking everyone else's emotions was thin. At this thought she remembered her power. In desperation she felt every ounce of pain and gathered the emotion strongly into a mind missile. At once she released it straight into both Carmines and Nathan's mind allowing them to feel every ounce of pain and terror.
At once her energy poured into the probes dug into the two's mind. She kept up a thin stream of energy hoping to send so much it would kill her. What would be the point of living anymore? Even if she escaped she would be hunted. And then there was Amp. Either captured or lost. She shuddered involuntarily as she felt fatigue come over her. If she was given more time, she would be dead in a quarter of an hour, her life energy completely drained.

Nathan watched each knife go into Sasha as his anger wavered. He was starting to feel sick. Suddenly Sasha revealed part of the information. Finally she was seeing the light, Carmine would stop if she revealed everything...wouldn't she? But she's a mutant! The dark side told him, she deserves to die anyway…
Suddenly a harsh burst of extreme pain hit him. His hands, feet and side were on fire, and the pain was startling. His head hurt also as he felt the pain pushed in through his mind into other parts of his body. He let out a pain filled yell of agony, finding himself on the floor, curled up into a ball.

"Make it stop!" he yelled through gritted teeth, unknowing that Dusk was the cause of it.

She smiled as she heard Dusk’s voice weakly tell her that there were eight of them who got out. She was missing five, she would have to get them back and ask Eriyk why he didn’t capture the other five. She glanced down at Dusk. ”What can they do little kitten?” She could tell that Dusk was weak and fading fast. She would have to get the answers soon, this one was much weaker than she expected. Suddenly she felt pain, intense pain in her hands and ankles. Her legs trembled at the sudden pain and her hand clenched, the blades on her glove slicing through Dusk’s dress but not the skin, exposing the flesh of her torso. She felt a dull flame sprout along her side and she heard a scream of agony. It didn’t come from where she expected and she glanced back at Nathan, curled on the floor. ”Make it stop!”

She sighed a little; she would need to increase his pain tolerance if he was going to be working around mutants. She had been through much worse, if you planned on causing pain you needed to know what it felt like. She turned back to Dusk, her eyes if they could, were darker and she brought the glove down and across her stomach. She felt glee at the scream that came from her lips as her skin was peeled off. Strips of Dusk’s skin fell to the floor, and blood started to drip from the wounds. Carmine didn’t dig in far; just enough so that she would start bleeding, possibly get a little light headed but not enough for unconsciousness. She wouldn’t grant that kind of relief. ”You’re only hurting yourself. You don’t answer my question the pain will get worse.” She dragged the glove across Dusk’s non wounded side so now both were bleeding. ”Tell me what they can do.”

Dusk felt a small glow of triumph as she felt both Carmine and Nathan's pain, perhaps she could escape. Her energy was draining fast, a little more time and she could escape into the void. Her face whitened further as her energy was depleted. So close...Carmines gloved hand clenched and Dusk stiffened but retained focus as her corset was ripped revealing the bare flesh of her stomach. She continued to pour out her energy, when the glove came down on her stomach.
She let out a horrible scream, and all of her focus was depleted, at once realising both Carmine and Nathan of pain. She continued to scream, unable to stop, as pieces of flesh were torn off her stomach causing her deep red blood to seep through the wounds. The peeling stopped, as Carmine held the dripping glove over her right side, and Dusk was left panting on the bench. Desperate she tried to recall her probe, but her exhausted and pain filled mind blocked the power efficiently.
”You’re only hurting yourself. You don’t answer my question the pain will get worse.”
The glove was dragged down her right side and Dusk shrieked in response. By now there was barely a place on her body which did not sent fiery pain through it.
”Tell me what they can do.”
Her spirit had almost been broken.
"One is a scorpion" she gasped, before starting to cough. Each one racked her whole body, and only bought more pain. She forced herself to stop before she rasped on "Two have...wings"
She stopped her eyes rolling back into her head, she couldn't...she couldn't bare to give them away, but the pain in her side forced her to continue, though now a hopeful idea filled her thoughts. "Another has the powers of a volcano"
Her eyes brightened with tears as she thought of the volcano boy who had been killed when the lab exploded. "Another is part wolf…" She tried to think of others she'd seen in the lab, those that hadn't made it, but ended up creating her own, unable to think of any others in the current situation "one can control water, a girl controls fire" she winced as she realised Matt controlled fire, hopefully the image of a girl would protect him there "and the last I am unsure of" she managed to groan before falling silent. Her head spun and her vision was altered with pain. An image of Amp rose unbidden in her mind, and then each one of her friends. She prayed she'd keep them safe, beside the two that the lab already had. The thought gave her a shock of fear. For now they might believe her but the two captured, if they had gifts different to what she'd mentioned, she'd be bought straight back here. Nonetheless that might give her time to recuperate. Eight...a sense of shame washed over her, she'd given away the number, making sure the lab would always look for them, her pain didn't help and she found tears start to form and slowly drop down her face.
I am so sorry…

Nathan Darga
Image

The pain abruptly stopped, leaving only an aching jaw from where he'd clenched it so hard. His silence was broken by the most pain filled scream he'd heard, followed by a shriek. Carmine repeated her question. He heard Sasha's words and he couldn't help feeling relieved finally she'd revealed something! Maybe now Carmine would ease up a little. His head ached a little where the pain had abruptly come and ceased. He grimaced as he stood, before whitening slightly at the sight of Sasha's middle. It was covered in small gashes on the side, and in the middle long strips of skin had been peeled off, no wonder she had decided to talk. He forced himself to remain passive, though now his good side had the upper hand. That wasn't right no matter what the girl was. Even though she lied? He gritted his teeth again, before realising how tender it was from before and loosening it, forcing himself to appear calm.
Sasha's faces was ashen from pain, and her eyes filled with tears that appeared to be from shame of revealing too much. Why she'd care about other mutations was beyond him, but his memories of them together still made his heart ache a little. An overwhelming sense of guilt washed over him as he saw the holes he had made in her feet, and he leaned against the wall, struggling to keep his unfeeling mask in place.

She nodded as Dusk finally gave up the information. She pulled the glove off, letting drop to the ground with a soft clang, the blades dripping what blood they had on them to the floor. She walked around dusk slowly, pulling out the knives she had in her hands and ankles and also dropping them to the floor for the janitor to come clean up later, but leaving the restraints on her in case she had any type of strength left to move. ”See how easy that was? Now if you had only said as much in the beginning, things wouldn’t have been so bad.”

She turned to leave and noticed Nathan. He was slumped against the wall, his face white and she could see some emotions pass through his eyes that he kept hidden on his face. She frowned a little; she would have to get rid of any pity he felt for the mutants, regret and guilt were too hard to push away unless they were never felt. She grabbed his shoulder, pushing him out of the room with her. ”Don’t feel sorry for her. She brought it on herself remember? She could have answered the questions right away and lessened her punishment.” She shut the door behind her and headed down the hall so she could wash off the blood she had on her hands. ”The screams and pain you felt and heard. They might not even be real. Some here can’t feel pain, yet they still scream in order to get pity out of you. Don’t fall into it, it’s not real, they don’t deserve pity.”

She headed down the hall, somewhat knowing that her words to Nathan would have some effect. She had cut off Dusk from speaking and slightly twisted the truth. This would most likely bring her the desire she wanted form the boy, he would come to distrust the mutants, ignore any feelings he had for them and therefore be more loyal to the Lab. She would just have to teach him proper torture methods, best ways to bring out answers and have a good outlet for anger.

She stopped at a sink and put her bloody hands under the stream of water. [i]”What are you going to do with the mutant?”[i][u] She glanced at Nathan through her black hair then focused on getting the blood from under her nails. [b]”For now the healers will come for her. When they say she won’t die then she’ll be put in a cell. Then testing after that. We have to find out what she can do, and by looks of it, she has a way with emotions. She’ll be able to manipulate them, make you feel things you wouldn’t normally feel and force pain on you like she did in there.” She shook her hands to dry them and tossed her hair over her shoulder. ”We’ll see if we can get anything from the other new ones. They looked pretty beat up already, so I don’t know if we’ll get to play with them today.” She laughed a little then headed down the hall towards the healers quarters.

Nathan watched as Carmine washed the blood from her hands.
”For now the healers will come for her. When they say she won’t die then she’ll be put in a cell. Then testing after that. We have to find out what she can do, and by looks of it, she has a way with emotions. She’ll be able to manipulate them, make you feel things you wouldn’t normally feel and force pain on you like she did in there.”
Nathan stiffened. She did that to him? His brown eyes darkened, troubled. She was definitely not the girl he had dated. His frown deepened as he remembered the pain he had experienced. She hadn't needed to do that, she didn't feel pain, and yet she had tortured him. His fists instinctively clenched. Oh yes, he was angry. At that point he wasn't even doing anything to her, why had she targeted him? Carmine hadn't responded, so she mustn't have felt the pain he had experienced. No doubt the wounds she had been given had been impressed upon him, fuelling her imagination. Since she couldn't experience the pain herself she had obviously enhanced it out of spite. It only proved that mutants couldn't be trusted, not even Sasha. He had thought, since he had known her, that she was still a little higher than the others, albeit below himself thanks to her mutations. Now he was convinced she was just as bad as the rest of them.
”We’ll see if we can get anything from the other new ones. They looked pretty beat up already, so I don’t know if we’ll get to play with them today.”

Nathan nodded in response to Carmines words. He was trying to be a little more careful around her. He had been a little too relaxed due to a rather emotional day, but he would not be making that mistake again. He doubted Carmine would be one to be on the bad side of. No, he planned on being more careful.

She walked swiftly down the hall and up several flights of stairs to get to the Healer’s part of the building. All the people she passed she didn’t even give a second glance, she didn’t even know if the boy, Nathan was fallowing her or not. She didn’t really mind if he did or not, he could fallow and learn from her if he wanted to, as long as he didn’t get in the way.

Upon getting to the long hallway that had the individual rooms she starting seeing the Healers. The large room was a head but she didn’t feel like going in there at the moment. She stopped the first Healer she came to, grabbing the small woman’s arm, stopping her in her tracks. ”There’s another in the Interrogation Room. Get her cleaned up and patched up then in a cell when she is well enough.” The woman nodded quickly and scurried down hall, stopping a few others to help her. Carmine nodded and head down another hallway towards her office.

Healers

The three of them headed down the many flights of stairs to the basements with not so much as a word. Each of the Healers had to do this at the least twice and some more than others. The oldest of the women, a small lady with her long graying hair in a ponytail, entered the room first and a frown set on her face. The other two, one with short cropped blonde hair that clung around her face and a tall woman with red brown hair pulled in a braided bun, fallowed in behind. The older woman clicked her tongue and went forward, immediately checking over the girl’s wounds. The woman with her hair in a bun strode forward and untied the straps holding down the girl’s limbs, pointing out the wounds at her ankles and hands. The third woman, with short blonde hair helped the older woman to stop the bleeding. The two of them pulled strips off the girl’s dress, which was ruined anyway and used those to tie around her hands and ankles. ”She will need more care in the Healer’s quarters.” The older woman stated, already lifting the girl despite her small size. The woman with her hair in a bun scurried around the table and helped the older woman and glanced back at the last one. ”You will have to find someone to clean the room. And some new clothes for the girl.” The blonde haired woman nodded and rushed down the hall to get her tasks done while the other two carried Dusk up to the Healer’s part of the building.

Dusk

Dusk lay for a few minutes in silence, her body was just starting to relax, when three woman rushed into the room. She stiffened instinctively as they came closer, ready for a further interrogation, before one of them released the straps holding her in place. She felt the older woman's eyes examining her, before she heard the ripping of fabric. Strips of cloth were wrapped hastily around both her wrists and ankles, stemming to flow of blood.
”She will need more care in the Healer’s quarters.”
Dusk looked over at her in confusion. Since she had not been at the lab before, she was unused to the treatments. She was expecting a cell and then testing, she hadn't heard of the healing halls. She wanted to think positively, but the sensible side of her warned it was probably only so she'd live long enough to be useful.
Suddenly the older woman leant over her and picked her delicate frame up off the bench. Dusk let out a moan as the deeper wounds of her side, and skinned stomach flared up.
”You will have to find someone to clean the room. And some new clothes for the girl.”
At least it seemed she would be cleaned up for a while. She leaned her head gently against the woman's shoulder, gritting her teeth as each movement aggravated her wounds.
She felt herself carried slowly down a hallway. She wondered briefly about the two that the lab had also managed to capture.
"Do you know of any newer ones bought in with me?" she asked in a low gasp, her voice scratchy and haggard. "I want to see them…" She had no idea where the others were, but she needed to see them. Half of her was longing to see their familiar faces, yet the other side reminded her that it would be better if they were not here.

Nathan watched as Carmine walked down the hallway. Unsure of what to do with himself, he followed her slowly at a distance. Finding that she seemed unbothered with his presence he continued to follow her hoping to learn a little more about his job. His hands were actually shaking from the ordeal in the interrogation room, and his mind was a mess trying to get a grip on what to believe. For now his anger was winning out, but he feared if he went home that his sympathetic side might get hold of him. So he continued to follow Carmine, stoking his anger and frustration.
He watched as Carmine instructed a healer to go and tend to Sasha, and he couldn't help feeling a little relieved. Even if she deserved it, he still wanted her alive...he couldn't quite cope if he had helped kill someone.
After the encounter with the healer, Carmine moved nearer her office. Nathan dropped back a bit, unsure of whether Carmine wanted him around any longer.

Dusk

Dusk looked up in terror at the other guard. She waited to see how he would react, before a rather shaky order was given.
"Move into the corner and face the wall, all three of you!"
Dusk glanced up in surprise. He didn't appear to want to harm them. Her confusion grew, until he suddenly pointed the gun at Faith and then back at herself. She flinched, but there was something in his look that threw her off. He didn't make any moves. Curious, Dusk let down her mental barrier a little only to feel fear emanating from the guard. Surprisingly she also could feel a small seed of pity. Her eyes widened, when suddenly a harsh pain through itself into her mind from the guards own. Looking up, Dusk found him on his knees, the deadly gun out of reach. He managed to grab a lesser pistol, however he was obviously in no state to use it.
Dusk quickly patched up her barrier, but an immense feeling of curiosity and also a little amount of guilt held her in a balance of wanting to get as far away from the guard as possible, but also wanting to reach out to him.
"Stay in darkness..."
Dusk glanced to her side to see Faith beckoning to enter the darkness. She made a move to follow, before turning back to the guard. Her mind wouldn't forget the small seed of pity. If only she could cultivate it. Perhaps, if he understood he could help…
She turned back to Faith watching as she started to disappear into the darkness. She made a split second decision.
"I'll follow later"
Her voice was barely a whisper, and she turned back to the guard. She shuffled forward on her knees in an attempt to keep her hands and ankles from being further damaged. That was when she remembered the gun. She glanced down it's barrel before deciding it was better to die anyway, and this may be her only way of leaving the facility for good. As quickly as she could she shoved the gun to the ground pinning it to the ground.
Her face contorted with pain as the pressure on her hand sent pain throughout her hands. She let out a small gasp before cradling her injured arm. It seemed neither of them was in a good condition.
"What's hurting" she managed to gasp out. This was followed by two more words. "Thank you"
He hadn't killed her...yet.

Nathan had waited outside for Carmine for a while, as she had two visitors. Deciding that she was busy, Nathan decided to wander down the halls. He contemplated going home, to try and calm himself, however he had a feeling if he went home now he wouldn't come back. He needed to make sure he was stable before returning. As he turned round the corner, he was shocked seeing a guard, obviously in pain, on his knees, with one of the mutants leaning over him.
With a snarl, Nathan grabbed the females hair yanking her backwards.
It was only then he saw her face and realised who she was.
"How dare you" he spat, smashing her head into the wall. She let out a scream.

"You had to go further didn't you. Couldn't just hurt me, had to go and do it to someone else. What did you do?"

"Just let her go"
Nathan froze for a second, before feeling Sasha dragged away from him by a small female mutant. He prepared himself to deliver a blow when blades interrupted his movement. It appeared the girl...the thing could defend itself. He glanced around the room trying to contemplate how best to get back in control of the situation as the girl spoke up.
"You...hurt my friend"
Oh so they had feelings now Nathan thought bitterly to himself.
Suddenly a memory forced itself upon him. He snarled as he remembered some of the times with Sasha Marten, before...before he found out was she was. Suddenly the memory dissolved.
"Walk... Never come back... 'Till your feet bleed...."
Nathan's eyes narrowed. He started to back away, before the glitter of metal caught his eye.
As quickly as he could, Nathan scooped up the gun and aimed it at the girls legs. He wouldn't kill her if he could help it but he would maim her.
"Why the hell would you want me to let that witch go" he growled to the guard, before catching sight of Nudge.
He kicked the boy in the side of the head, ordering him back with the others. "Now what were your orders for them"
Through the whole thing he refused to look back at Sasha. The memory had done enough damage he decided.

Dusk found herself behind Faith with her ears ringing. He was back. Her feet ached at the memory. She had been sure that he would help, but something had changed. As she looked up, she saw him aim the gun straight at Faith. She pulled the girl back gently. Warning her not to do anything. Not yet.
That was when she saw Nudge kicked viciously in the head. Her green eyes narrowed.

"What is wrong with you Nathan." she cried out "Surely you know this is wrong. You know me, what changed? It's not our fault the lab changed us"

The gun was pointed towards Faith and her eyes narrow, listening to the conversation.

She looks back towards Nudge and then towards Dusk, then towards the two other men.

"Dusk..." She says, "They... Aren't worth it..." She says, "No respect..." She says, meaning they had no respect for what they had endured.

"Go now... Leave...?" She asks, her blades retracting, then picking up Nudge and firmly placing her hand around his waist to help him stay up.
