Description

Mutants

~Name: Nudge.

~Age: He personally doesn't know, but he is actually around 17 years old.

~Gender: Male

~Mutation: Psychic powers, i.e. Telepathy, etc. Has recently discovered that he can use telekinesis, and though he doesn't know this, can exercise total mind control over non-mutants. Has only done this once, completely by accident, and killed the guard in the process.

~Weaknesses: All his strength is in his powers, making his body very weak. And the weaker his body is (i.e. if he's injured or tired), the more it limits his powers. The guards and scientists, knowing this, deliberately kept him weak, by only feeding him enough to keep him alive and no more, and by continuously beating him to keep him weak and docile. His powers are also affected by his level of focus, so if he can't do that then his powers would fail. Obviously fear comes into this as well. Using his powers over a long period of time, or to move a large object (via telekinesis), puts enormous strain on him and he will likely get tired very easily. Due to a failed experiment performed when he was younger, he is also unable to speak, though there was only minimal damage to his other mental functions, including his intelligence.

~Description: Even though he is roughly 17, his body looks like that of perhaps a 13/14 year old, in the way that he is very small for his age (only about 5ft) as well as being very thin, due to extreme malnutrition. His pale, narrow face is dominated by a pair of wide dark blue eyes, but more often than not, these are hidden by the thick black hair that hangs in matted clumps around his face. the insides of his arms are heavily scarred, due to the sheer number of needles that he has had put into him over the years, as well as the rest of his body being just as scarred from the beatings. he always seems to look tired, and this is due to the fact that his powers are largely uncontrollable, especially the telepathy, and as such, hearing the thoughts of those around him on a constant basis often prevents him from sleeping.

~Personality: Due to the fact that he's been in captivity his whole life, Nudge probably has a mental age of about 5 or 6 years old. His only method of communication is through telepathy, but his 'speech' is very broken and often confusing to those who actually know proper grammer or anything resembling it. This is just Nudge's way of expressing himself, albeit in a very limited way. His vocabulary is also very limited and, like a child, he will make up words and names for things he doesn't know out of the few words he does. This extends to his fellow mutants, and he gives these odd little nicknames based on defining features of the others', usually to do with their powers. Also like a child, he gets frustrated when others don't understand what he's trying to tell them, and this inability to communicate (as he can't read or write either) has affected him emotionally, and has made him prone to psychic 'temper tantrumns', where he will lash out with his mind at anyone near. Nudge doesn't seem to have any concept of 'I' or 'me', but instead refers to himself as simply 'Nudge'. He will do this with others too, by refering to them directly by their name (or whatever nickname he's given them), rather than 'you' or 'he' or 'she', etc. Has never been around people, but now that he is, and has a place among them, would do anything to help, although it seems as though he's just latching onto them. Like the other experiments, he finds it difficult to trust people not like him, but among the others, he is very concerned for their safety and will do his best to help, the little that he can. When he first started learning of the Outside, he started displaying a very childlike curiosity, and is relentless in his questioning. Doesn't get angry as such (other than the previously mentioned temper tantrumns, but they're just caused by frustration at not being able to communicate), but if anything threatens those few he trusts then you've just caught the attention of a highly unstable, highly powerful psychic. And it isn't attention that you would particularly want.
Most wouldn't expect it, but Nudge is actually rather intelligent, and if the scientists at the Lab had ever tested him for anything other than his powers they would have realised this. His intelligence is obviously limited by the fact he doesn't know anything about the Outside, though if he was given the chance to learn, he would pick things up fairly quickly. Oddly enough, he doesn't seem to have the same short attention span as the other mutants, and can focus on a task for quite a while, often becoming completely absorbed in it to the exclusion of all else.

~Fears: Simply put, Nudge is scared of pretty much everything, but since fear has become such a permenant emotion for him he doesn't seem to even register it's existance. Bright lights and loud, high pitched noises, which seem to remind him of the experiments, seem to be his main fears, along with small enclosed spaces. Oddly enough though, he also hates large open spaces as well, as he isn't used to them. Has been in isolation for almost his entire life, so is scared around people, even if it's only a few at a time. This fear is only increased by his lack of communication skills. He is also very reluctant to let anyone (normals especially) touch him, as before, the only time that happened it was when he was being beaten. For Nudge to actually allow you near enough to touch him should be seen as an honour, and signals that he trusts you. Since he himself is very small, as are many of the other mutants, he is also very scared of people who are much taller than him, as in his experience, they were always people who were going to hurt him. Much like the other experiments, he is scared of needles.

~History: Nudge was born in the lab, and so has never seen the outside before. The most major event in his life in the Lab is the failed experiment that removed his ability to speak, though even if that hadn't happened he would still be as quiet as he is now, mainly due to fear and lack of social interaction. What he doesn't know is that even though the experiment was clasified as 'Failed', the loss of his speech was actually intentional, in order to force him to rely on his powers, and make them stronger. Obviously now, his escape from the lab, which he played a major part in by enabling the escape of 'Subject X' or 'Emvee', as he is now known, is the most major.

So begins...

Maya Ramsey

Maya had been reading a file while she walked, and as such wasn't paying much attention. So she was just as surprised as Daren was when he bumped into her. At least she thought his name was Daren. She didn't know many of the EMTs, and he wasn't one she seen a lot anyway. Anyway, what he then explained to her had been playing on her mind as well. The kids needed to be somewhere they felt safe. But where could they go? Personally, she would prefer to keep them here, where she could keep an eye on them, but if their fear stopped them healing properly, then that would cause more harm than good. She wanted to avoid that as much as possible.

"I understand your concern, but where could they go? At least here we can help them as much as we can...", Maya then did something she rarely did. She asked for Daren's opinion, "I mean, where would you suggest? It's not as though we can transport them just now anyway. I doubt any of them would be well enough for travel...Leave it with me though. I'll sort something out with the other doctors, and we can come to some arrangement, I'm sure.", by this point, Maya was probably talking more to herself than Daren, thoughtfully twirling one of her wild coppery curls around her finger. One that had somehow escaped from the ponytail she had tied it in. She had always found that annoying, it always happened: no matter how long she spent trying to tame the curly mess that had the nerve to call itself hair, at least some of it found it's way out of the ponytail. The curse of being Irish, she supposed, along with the dark green eyes and freckles.

She was getting off topic, the scatterbrain that she was. How she ever became a doctor was anyone's guess. Pushing the frustration back, she looked up at Daren, who was much taller than her meagre 5 feet, 5 inches.
"Like I said, Daren: leave it with me. Could you let that girl know I'm working on it? She doesn't seem to trust me very much, and since she asked you, it would be best if you gave her the answer.", she asked, before re-adjusting the files she was carrying and going past him, pausing to smile back at him. She liked that guy, he genuinely seemed to care about the patients, not the paychecks, like some doctors did.

Nudge

Nudge knew something was wrong, he could tell from the thought around him as he gradually dragged himself into awareness. The problem was, waking up was a rather difficult task, due to the medication still in his system. At least he didn't hurt much now, his body had decended into a state of complete numbness. It felt weird, but he was more used to the effects of various drugs than he particularly wanted to be, due to the experiments. It would still take a long time for the drugs to wear off though, but it would be quicker than a normal person would recover. Maybe a few hours before he could fully wake up. The pills that the healer had given him had been strong enough to knock someone of his size out for at least 12 hours. In Nudge's case? Three, maybe four hours from now, he would be fully awake and able to move. Well, as much as his injuries would allow anyway. Which wouldn't be much, not without a lot of pain, but hopefully it would be enough.
For now though, he was stuck, in this odd state of half-awareness, knowing something was happening, but unable to do anything about it, or even find out exactly what it was. It was frustrating. Or it would be, if Nudge actually knew what that emotion was. He felt it, sure, but he just didn't know what it was called, or what caused it.

Nudge

Nudge could sort of hear things now, his hearing usually came back first when he was in this state. It kind of echoed slightly though, and was far away sounding, but he could pick up some of the words at least. 'Move'. 'Soon'. Those words he heard, even through his rather fuzzy, sleepy, drug influenced mind. He could hear thoughts well enough though, and Ash's came through loud and clear.

Do you hear that Nudge? We might be able to get out of these rooms soon.... , Ash had thought to him, and he could feel a very slight pressure on his head, like someone was touching him. He couldn't check though, he didn't quite have the energy needed to open his eyes and see who it was yet. He had a feeling it was Ash though. He didn't know how he had that feeling, but it seemed like something Ash would do. Either that or it was Faith, but he doubted it. Faith's hands felt different, now that he was actually getting some feeling back into his body. Not a lot, but it was something at least. Better than he had been anyway. Of course with this receeding numbness, came the return of pain. Lots of it, though it was duller than it had been before. Not that it made much difference, considering how much pain he'd been in beforehand.
He somehow managed to make his fingers move, just a little, to let Ash know he had heard her, and was aware enough to listen to her. He felt that in itself was quite an achievement, considering how he was feeling at the moment. He couldn't send her anything though, his mind still wasn't up for that much yet. Maybe later, once the drugs had worn off a bit more. Of course by then, he would probably be in too much pain to send anything...He would deal with that when it happened though.

Nudge

Nudge knew something was happening, he felt Ash's fear, and the confusion of a 'Normal' mind. A Healer, he assumed, though it was hard to tell. His mind was slipping though, he couldn't focus on one thing for more than a few moments. He was wondering where that girl was, the one from the tree, who looked like Faith but thought like himself. A strange thing for Nudge, to find someone just as broken as himself.

Then his mind went back to Ash, she was panicking. About her body? Ah, right, she was dissolving...Wait, what?
Nudge's thoughts didn't quite follow that pattern, and certainly weren't that coherent, but he registered it as a problem at least. A big problem. He didn't think Ash was a freak, he was one himself after all, but he knew that it would be bad if anyone saw her like that.

Using as little of his power as he could, he implanted thoughts into the Normal, making him think nothing was wrong. It seemed to work, because the Healer left, his thoughts slightly fuzzy, but at least he wasn't scared of what Ash was.
How to fix Ash though? That was another problem. It would be better if she wasn't here, but he had a feeling that she didn't want to leave. He couldn't imagine why though. If he could, he would go as far away as he could.
His thoughts wandered again, an effect of the medication, but he focused as much as he could.

Ash...okay? Ash scare, Ash go...Nudge okay now. Faith here, Nudge okay. Ash go...Ash no scare...no more., he thought to her, though it was faint, and even more broken than normal, the words interspersed (sp?) with anything and everything that Nudge's distraced mind was focused on. Namely the images that Ash had sent him before, repeating over and over in his mind. He wasn't meaning to think of them, his mind just seemed to want to focus on them. He was partially daydreaming, due to the drugs, so it was expected. If it were any other situation, Nudge would be classed as being high at the moment. In a way, he was...not that Nudge even knew what the concept meant.

Maya Ramsey

"Please, you have to let me do this. These kids aren't going to heal if they're scared. You didn't see how they looked. I don't know what's happened to them, but they are absolutely terrified of us and this building. if they were moved somewhere else, they would be calmer, and they would heal a lot quicker.", Maya was getting frustrated, these peopel just refused to listen to her! Damn senior doctors, so far up their own arses to listen to common sense! They had called her a 'over-sensitive, bleeding-hearted little girl', which Maya hated. So here she was, trying to state her case. And it seemed she was wearing them down, good old fashioned Irish stubbornness seemed to be winning out in the end. Good old Ireland, for giving me that trait...you could have toned the hair down a bit though...No wait, have to stay focused...
She mentally shook the distraction away, and tried to focus on her 'superior' (read: 'sexist, pig-headed eejit' according to her).
"Fine, Ramsey. You care about these kids so much, you take care of them. But on your own time, not ours. Once they can travel, get them out."
At that, Maya had to seriously restrain herself. She felt like jumping for joy. fighting to keep her face straight, she nodded, coppery curls flying everywhere.
"Of course. They should be okay in a few days anyway. A week, tops. I'll make sure of it.", she said, turning to leave.
Once out in the corridor, and out of earshot of the office, she did a happy sort of twirl and punched the air in triumph.
"YES! Take that, male dominance!", she almost shouted, then realised that she would probably look like a right twat, acting like this. Ah well, if they didn't like it, they could just shove it. Where the sun didn't shine. Maya would be happy to do it for them, if they wanted. Would serve them right.
Happily singing to herself, she practically skipped down the halls, to find Daren, and tell him the good news.

Maya

Maya had been told of the commotion, and was heading in that direction. that was when Daren almost collided with her again. "We need to stop this, huh?", she said, trying to make a joke, despite the chaos. Her worry only grew when Daren explained the situation. More trouble. What was wrong with these kids? She decided to consider that later, and focus on getting them calm. When she got to 'Ash' and 'Matt', as Daren informed her their names were, she shrugged off her coat and tossed it aside. No point in trying to help when the kids were scared of doctors. Best to at least not look like a doctor. She didn't have time to think about how to calm the boy down, she just acted, gently taking his shoulders, and attempted to get him sat down.
"Hey...Matt, is it? You need to just calm down, okay? Nobody'll hurt you here. I'm not gonna let them, kay?", she said, her Irish heritage making her voice calm and comforting. That was one thing she liked about her accent, it calmed people down.
A quick glance behind her revealed a doctor, coming at him, probably to sedate him. That was just plain stupid, given how these kids reacted to needles.
"What'd you think you're doing, ya eejit? You're just gonna scare him more. Jeez...", she scolded the other man, her tone making him step back. Her accent was useful here too: it could do stern as well as comforting. Maya knew what she was doing, and she'd had to fight more than most to get her collegues to see that.
"There's another bed in 115, get it ready for this one. He might be better around his friends. Actually....get that other kid in there as well. There's space for him as well. Keep tham all together. ", she said to the doctor behind her, reffering to the other boy that she'd been told about. The one who'd been shot in the shoulder, and was currently freaking the nurses out by talking to himself. it would probably be best to keep all these kids together.
Turning back to the boy she was currently with, she started talking to him again, trying to keep him calm,
"Come on now, stop being silly. You're alright here, I'm not gonna hurt you...Just gonna help, okay? You're okay, you're okay..."

Nudge

Okay, this was really getting frustrating. Nudge knew for a fact that something was wrong, he could feel Matt's mind from somewhere, but it was different somehow. Darker, more violent. The Matt from the Games, whenever Nudge had sensed him from that. He knew he would sort of be able to move just now, just not sure how far he could get without help. And Ash was gone, and he wasn't sure if Faith was awake or not. It felt like she was asleep. That complicated things. A lot. So he would have to move himself then.
He slowly sat up, not particularly surprised when his vision swam and his head pounded. Carefully removing the needles and tubes from his body, following the wires back to the machines so he could switch them off first. That way, the alarms wouldn't sound, right? It seemed his idea was right, not that anyone would've really noticed, if the alarms had went off. There was too much other chaos. His right arm felt weird, all wrapped up in 'white, solid stuff' as he called it (the cast). Bandages he was used to, but this stuff? It was strange, having his arm fixed in that postion. He wanted it off of him, but it seemed resistant to his attempts to remove it himself, and he only succeeeded in hurting his hand. Something to ask about later, to those 'Not-White-Coats-That-Look-Like-White-Coats'.
Using his other arm, which wasn't in a much better condition, to steady himself against a table, he stood, only feeling worse and more dizzy. He was still semi-drugged up as well, so that made his already awkward movements even less coordinated. And the closer he got to the door, it became apparent that he was running out of surfaces to hang on to. And since many of those surfaces were on wheels, it made it even harder to stay standing.
He eventually made it out the door, and leaned against the wall, exhausted already. No one seemed to take notice of him though, everyone was too busy with rushing about, doing whatever it was these people did. The noise and chaos was scary and disorientating to Nudge, and he couldn't go any further. So he sank down against the wall, curling up as best he could. It was an instinct to him, to make himself as small a target as he could. That way he couldn't be hurt. Well, hurt any more than he was already.

Nudge

Not knowing what was going on, the moment Nudge felt someone touch him, he panicked, and tried to struggle, in a weak attempt of getting away from this new person. Away...get away! No hurt Nudge No hurt Nudge! Go away!, he thought, though the words didn't leave his mind. He wasn't strong enough for that, not yet. 'Talking' to Ash earlier had been tiring enough for him.
He slumped against whoever was holding him up, though the contact frightened him, he couldn't support his weight anymore, as meagre as that was. Nudge barely weighed anything, and the fact he couldn't stand on his own proved how weak he was just now.
The person holding him up was talking to him, asking him things. He didn't understand though, everything was just so confusing. So loud, from both sounds and thoughts. He couldn't hold either back, his normal shields had completely failed. So Nudge's mind was completely overwhelmed, and he could barely form a coherent thought in his own mind, let alone answer the person, even if he had understood them. He didn't register that the person holding him up was Faith, only that whoever it was, they were the only thing keeping him upright.

Maya

Dark green eyes widened when the boy pushed her away. How could he even move with that injury? And he was melting the floor? That was just plain freaky...was she dreaming? A quick pinch to her arm confirmed she wasn't, not that it was important now. Her concern for the boy, and the girl he was pulling away, overrode any common sense she had right now, and she grabbed the boys' other hand, hoping to at least make him pause, so he would listen to her.
"Come on now, calm down...I'm not gonna hurt you. You need to get that wound seen to....Come on, leanbh (kid), you're just being silly now.", Maya was struggling to not be reduced to pleading with Matt. She had to prove she knew how to handle this.

Nudge

Nudge felt more people pull at him, taking him away from whoever he was hanging onto, and he struggled. He knew that whoever it had been before wouldn't have hurt him. If they were going to, they would have by then, right? But these new people, he didn't know them, and they were trying to get him back to bed. He didn't want that though, he needed to find out what was going on. Matt's mind was getting more violent, and it didn't feel like Matt at all by this point.
He had to focus on that, on trying to get away...
He felt a sharp pain in his arm, ad within minutes he was feeling sleepy. It was just like the Lab, they were putting him to sleep, so they could do more tests! Nudge didn't even try to fight it though, it was always worse if he did, it hurt more...
He was still scared though, what would they do to him?

He didn't know that the doctors had put him under mainly for his own safety. If he had kept making such a fuss, he would only hurt himself more. The stitches across his arm had already reopened, due to him trying to get away from them. So he had to be asleep so they could replace them. He would be too stressed out otherwise. This was a safer option, for all concerned.

Nudge

The drugs tha the healer had injected into Nudge weren't quite as strong as the ones the Lab used, so while Nudge couldn't really move just now, his body completely numbed, he was awake. Sort of. And so he heard Faith coming into the room, felt her mind. He realised it had been her earlier too, when he had been confused and dizzy. He had probably scared her as well, by panicking. Had he realised it was her, he wouldn't have been as scared...maybe...He couldn't be sure though.

"Nudge... ok?" , she asked him, and Nudge tried to move his hand, tried to hold her's the way she was holding his. His body wouldn't respond though, due to the drugs. At least he wasn't in pain. Not yet at least.

His mind was fine though, so he could answer her. Nudge...dizzy...not feel good...feel...cold..., he sent to her, hoping she got it. He was cold, freezing even. To look at him ,you would think the small boy was some kind of china doll, his face almost pure white, the dark circles under his eyes even more pronounced. He looked fragile normally, but even more so now. As if the lightest touch would cause him to shatter...

Maya

She had decided. Matt had to calm down, one way or another. Her hand gripped the needle in her pocket, she would have to use it. As much as she hated the idea. He was close enough, she could inject him without him registering it until he was out. She didn't have time to think though, only to act. Maya swung her hand out, holding the syringe, and it connected, though she had a feeling it wouldn't have the full effect on Matt when he was like this. Still, even if it had some effect, it would be better than nothing...

Nudge

Not...safe...danger. Can feel bad. Like Black-men. Bad. Pain. Take Nudge back. Not want back..., Nudge sent to Faith, trying to get her to understand. Something was happening, he knew it. That's why he had been trying to move in the first place, to get to where it was. Or away from it. He hadn't been thinking that far ahead. All he had been concerned with was trying to move. Something whaich hadn't been all that successful, it had to be said.

Amp/Blast

They were scared, plain and simple. The men were fighting each other, both were wounded and neither Amp nor Blast wanted to know who was going to be the winner of this little battle. He flinched as the red haired man was hit and went down. The one, who had won, stalked towards him. Amp and Blast both pulled farther into the corner they had lodged themselves into, but the man still picked them up without difficulty. Both of them were slightly confused as they saw the winner shift and then he looked like the red haired one. Amp was panicking, trying to kick or hit the man, and possibly wiggle out o the man’s grip. But their muscles were weak and he was still tired. Blast knew that through brute strength they weren’t going to win. He screamed, the sound ringing in the man’s ears, and he hoped it would cause the man to at least loosen his grip so they could pull themselves free.

Commanding Guard: Eriyk

He walked back inside the hospital and it seemed all hell was breaking loose. There seemed to be gun shots from somewhere in the building, there were screams filling the hallways, and it seemed that Caine was using a devise on one of the mutants. He frowned; he knew he wasn’t going to get as many as he wanted. He would have to go raid the Institution and get them back. He paused as he saw what seemed to be a shadow moving along the wall, trying to avoid the people. He smiled, he knew what shadow travel looked like, very few could notice the small shifts in the shadows but he had spent enough time around the type to notice the ability. He watched the shadow move, he could vaguely make out two forms inside, and he smiled. He paused where he was, watching the direction of the shadow then fallowed it.

Commanding Guard: Eriyk

He was slightly surprised at how much commotion there was in the hospital, granted he had been in very few. The Lab did have its doctors and healers so there wasn’t much need to go to a normal hospital where they would constantly ask questions about you and where you came from, make sure you were a person in one of their many systems. That was one reason he had avoided them, and any type of government run facility, there was no record of him as an existing person anywhere. But that was what you got when you were born to the Lab, for the Lab, it was the same for carmine and a few of the other guards, they never existed, and most likely never will as far as the government was concerned.

He fallowed the shadow along the wall, intending to capture the two that were traveling through it. Then suddenly the lights went out, everywhere in the building systems shut down, anything electronic turned off, and in a few seconds a strange muted light came back on and things started working again. He lost sight of the shadow for a few seconds but the darkened light helped him find it more easily. Most usually saw things moving around in the shadows, the darker the area was, the easier it was to see the things moving around in the dark. The more you focused on the shadows, the shapes stood out more, and the more practiced you were at it, you could make out the spirit or thing that was moving about.

He quickly caught up to the swiftly moving thing and could now make out that it was definitely a mutant, one with wings and she was carrying a small boy with her. Obviously they knew they couldn’t stay in the hospital and were trying to get out. He immediately caught the girl, sliding a tranquilizer bullet from his sleeve and sliding into her neck. He was near the door, in one of the darker shadows in the corner and with a chanced glance through the glass doors; he saw a set of vans being stopped by the normal officers. He cussed and laughed mentally; he knew Caine had gotten a few he couldn’t collect and was about to take off with them; he wasn’t going to like telling carmine that he had lost them. But on the other hand, he was being stopped and that gave him his chance to get out. Then one of his mutants possibly knew one of the others and would be helpful in getting them back, and telling if there were any more.

He picked up the girl and the boy, laying them each on his shoulder, and walked out with them, moving swiftly to the trees. He knew how to move in the shadows, without getting anyone’s attention and didn’t even get the tenseness of anticipation anymore at being caught by the normal federal officers.

He saw that the girl he had brought out earlier was unconscious on the ground. He nodded, they were always much more compliant when they were unconscious, there was less screaming, less fighting, it made his job so much easier. He set the two that he had down on the ground, and barked out a few orders to the guard that was already there. In a few moments, the hounds were awake, standing submissive to him and the mutants were tied to their backs and ready to go. He glanced around, noticing that not all of his men were there. He quickly called in for a chopper. It would wait there for the stranglers and take them back. He whistled once and the hounds took off at an alarming pace with him right behind. Some were slightly curious about his ability to run so fast, as he was keeping up with the fast hounds and not breaking too much of a sweat. But that was why he was commander wasn’t it.

Carmine

She was not a patient person, and this waiting was making her more irritable. She was wondering when the others were going to come back, what information there was, and hopefully the government hadn’t gotten involved at all. Then she got a call, she rushed over to her desk, swiftly pulling the phone to her ear. ”Hello!? Speak. Now!” The frightened man on the other side spoke quickly, he could tell that she was not in a good mode and didn’t want to make it worse. ”The northern facility has been taken care of, there’s no trace of it anywhere now. All mutants found inside were dead, but there is evidence of several escaping, anything worth salvaging is heading back now and your guards are bringing back any mutants they find.”

Finally there was some good new coming from the explosion that had caused her so much grief and many headaches. ”Thank you, the moment they come back, send them down to the chambers. Let’s see what information we can get out of them.” She put the phone back on the receiver, and sighed, rubbing her forehead. Thankfully the building had been taken care of before she got the call that someone had found it. There had be reports of some inspectors snooping around she was glad she hadn’t heard of them coming to bother her again.

She glanced at the papers that littered her desk; she didn’t want to have to deal with the task of going through them, signing off on things and doing a desk job that she had to find someone to do for her. She would ask Eriyk to do it for her later. He knew how to deal with the paperwork as easily as he could subdue any mutant in the building. He was brute strength but she was glad he brains as well, she was tired of guards coming in that could barely write their own names. She left her office and headed down the hall, the cool air from the vents brushing against her bare torso and long legs she left exposed with the small shorts.

Getting down to the lower chambers she almost felt at home as she started hearing the screams that were muted in her office upstairs. She noticed that there was a boy pacing back and forth in front of the empty interrogation room she had prepared for her next use. She glanced him over, her dark hair falling over one black eye like it normally did, the deep crimson tips brushing against her stomach. ”Who are you? You better not have been messing with any of my toys inside there.” She crossed her small arms across her chest, with a slightly stern look on her face that had most people thinking she was about to hit them, which she usually did when she was in a foul mood.

Eriyk

They had finally gotten to the Lab, the large white building looming up in front of them. He was somewhat relieved to get back, he hadn’t been out that long and he was already sick of the outside. All the people, the noise, and the prying eyes to whatever he was doing. He preferred the isolation, that was how he grew up, and that was how it was going to stay. It was better to stay in the building, in the training rooms, watching a Game or two, and if he did decide to go outside, it was always in the quiet of the woods.

He brought the hounds to a stop just inside the doors of the Lab, which slammed shut as the last one came in. The large metal doors closed with a hallow clang and the outside blended in with the outside, hiding the entrance seamlessly. The guards waiting for them unstrapped the mutants and the hounds were heard down to their cells. Eriyk took a quick glance at the ones that he had caught, silently wishing in his head that he had gotten more and that damn Caine hadn’t intervened.

He saw that one of them was awake, the first one he had gotten, the feline mutant. He had almost forgotten about the deep scratches that he had on his arm. He would have to tend to them, and let Carmine deal with the girl for him. He glanced at the other two, the winged girl was still unconscious and the boy was obviously very weak. ”Take them to the healers. Send them to their own cells when their strong enough for it.” He glanced back at the feline, who was obviously frightened, and he wondered how long she had been at the Lab. Probably not long by the look of her, she still had muscle, definition to her body, much unlike the ones who had been in the Lab for years. ”I’ll take this one to Carmine, she might have information.” He smirked and grabbed her by the hair, pulling her along, ignoring her struggles against him.

Carmine

She glanced over at the boy; she could tell that he was getting anxious, wanting to get on with the torture. She was the same, she wanted Eriyk to hurry up, so she could her frustrations out and finally calm down. This anxiety increased as she heard footsteps coming down the hallway along with faint noises of someone struggling. She smiled, and went out to see who Eriyk had brought her. She saw a girl, her black hair wrapped round Eriyk’s hand, keeping her tethered to him. Her skirts and bodice were well worn and in tatters. She thought that once the dress would have been a lovely piece of clothing, but the wear and tear had dirtied it, and it was no long salvageable.

She noted that the girl didn’t look as beat as the others tended to be and knew immediately that this one had to be beaten down. The look in the girl’s eyes was that of curiosity and fear of the things around her, not the terror that didn’t fade from the regularly beaten. She stood on her toes, giving Eriyk a kiss on the cheek a smile that almost seemed sweet. ”Thank you so much! I can have fun with this one.” Eriyk smiled back at her, and gave her a small bow. ”I thought would like a stress reliever, and could use some fun.” Eriyk strode into the room and at Carmine’s instruction, strapped the girl down on the table. ”Have fun little kitten.” He chuckled and walked out to leave Carmine, and the boy he just noticed was there, to their work.

Carmine

"I don't know enough about torture to decide. Whatever it is, I want it to kill her in the end, but not before she suffers and reveals everything she knows. She lied to me. She must have. I used to know her
" She raised an eyebrow at the comment. So the two know each other, this could be more useful. She liked the way his words came out, so dark and ready to draw pain. But there was a pain behind them, something she would have to get rid of.

"Nathan I didn't
They did it. They changed me. I didn-" She frowned, spun on her heel and slapped the girl. She could see the instant red hand print on the girl’s cheek and the quickly forming bruise. ”Quiet!! I shouldn’t hear words out of your mouth unless they are answers to my questions. I doubt Nathan wants to hear more lies come from you anyway.” She didn’t particularly care if the girl told Nathan lies or truths, but she was going to make sure that they all sounded like lies to him anyway.

She had noticed the dried blood on the side of the ruined dress and figured that she had been hurt there before. She swiftly drug the knife down the girl’s side, slicing into the wounded flesh and bringing out a good blood flow but not enough for the girl to start feeling light headed. She then slammed the knife down through the girl’s hand; Carmine knew enough about anatomy to make sure that the knife didn’t severe anything important, or even cut through any major veins. Blood dripped from the edges of the knife but for the most part, the main pint of the action was to bring pain. She strode over to the shelf, picking out a few more knives. ”Now for the questions. Which I expect to be answered truthfully and quickly. Or there will be punishment for it.”

She strode over and point the hilt ends towards Nathan. ”You can deal out punishment if her answers aren’t quick enough or if they show any hint of being untruthful.” She turned from the boy, leaving him with the freshly sharpened knife, and one in her own hand. She looked down at the girl, the tips of her hair brushing against the blood on the table from the side wound. ”Who else escaped with you? We know there are others so you can’t say there wasn’t anyone else.”

Eriyk

He walked down the hall towards the healer’s quarters. It was a separate section almost separate from the rest. He hated the damn healers but he knew they were necessary. Most of the healers hated the treatment they gave the mutants, mainly because the ones they brought to them were almost dead and the guards that went in only had small scratches and cuts to get bandaged. But their pay checks kept them coming back and working, and as long as the mutants were kept alive and in some shape or form, useful, they would continue to get paid.

He walked into the large room; a few scientists were walking to the different mutants, each one strapped down on a bed, an IV in one arm, the ones who were awake either didn’t dare make a sound or were whimpering softly to themselves. Healers were bustling around, checking wounds, getting bandages, rushing for needles and pain killers. Granted Carmine gave them a limited supply of those, they used them as much as could on the worse of mutants. He noticed that the two he had brought in were already there, strapped down on beds next to each other, a single healer working on the two of them.

He went and sat down in the chair one of the assistance had directed him to, while another checked out his arm. He rolled up his sleeve, which caused the scabbed over claw marks to start bleeding again and the healer ran for bandages. He honestly sat there completely bored. He had seen this before, had been in here multiple times and each time it never got any more interesting for him. He felt the Lab could do without a healer’s quarters and should just let the weak mutants die. If they could stay alive on their own they shouldn’t live. He waited for the assistant to tie off his arm and quickly left. He would rather be in a training room instead and headed in that direction.

Nudge

Nudge had been drifting in and out of conciousness, but had been aware enough to tell where he was. He half-hoped that he was asleep, and that this was one of his nightmares. That meant that he could wake up eventually. He knew he was awake though, so he knew where he was. Even if he wasn't able to sense the fear and pain from around him, he would know. They had brought him back. Him, and Faith, and Dusk. They had been brought back. His head lolled to the side a little, and he saw Faith strapped onto a table much like he was. Weakly he started to reach for her, just to make sure she was alright, but his attempt was halted by a slap to the side of his head.
Don't even think about it., the person said, and Nudge blinked a few times, the hit having made his vision darken slightly. That had hurt, though not as much as the pain he was in already. But these people, they were trying to fix him, right? They were healers? Yes, that sounded right, the Lab did have healers, though these ones weren't like the ones from the WhiteHalls. Like that one with the Fire-hair and the kind voice. She was nice to him, treated him like a person, not an object. Not like here.

((Sorry it took so long to post, and that this one is so crap, but it took a while to get back to 100% after my hospital stay. By God, I hate those places...))

Maya

Maya was making sure that anyone else involved in the incident was okay, namely other patients and such. She could do little else, since the kids were gone now and she had looked for Daren already. Needless to say, her attempts at finding her friend were unsuccessful. Her cellphone rang, and she jumped. It was a call forwarded from her office, a system she used when she wasn't there. It was easier that way.
She didn't recognise the number though, and was hesitant about answering it. Thena again, it might have been one of the kids, if they had somehow managed to get to a phone, or it could br Daren? The part about t being one of the kids was stupid, she knew that, but she could hope, right?
"Hello? Doctor Maya Ramsey speaking.", she said into the handset, still trying to be professional, in case anyone was listening in. She wasn't sure where this paranoia came from, but she wasn't really caring right now.

Nudge

Nudge saw the disruption beside him, caused by Faith, and when he tried to help, he found that he was also strapped down. Not that he would have been able to move all that much anyway. Not when he was feeling so weak just now. This was yet another time when he wished he wasn't so damaged. He wanted to be able to scream, to make some kind of noise, so that the White-coats would get distracted, and leave Faith alone. He couldn't though, as much as he tried to force the sounds, none came. He couldn't help anyone. Especially not Faith.
Faith...stay awake. Please...no sleep Faith. Sleep hurt Faith more. No sleep., he thought to her, hoping she was still conscious enough to hear it.

Everything was fuzzy... Faith blinked hard, trying to see straight but the room wouldn't stop spinning. She felt sick as her muscles began to have spasms and her stomach churned. She hadn't eaten anything in days... Maybe some watered down "soup" or possibly stale bread... She felt her muscles convulse and she struggled for control.

Faith...stay awake. Please...no sleep Faith. Sleep hurt Faith more. No sleep. Nudge's voice suddenly calmed her, knowing he was still alive gave her an overwhelming sensation of joy. But it was soon over as she felt her body shake involuntarily. She squeezed her eyes shut and held back a scream as the pain became overbearing. She wanted to die... Right then. She didn't know what they injected her with, but it made her want to claw her eyes out, throw up...

She threw her head to one side and tried to curl up, but it was no use considering she was strapped down to the metal table.

Maya

Maya got to her car, unlocked it and got in. Before turning the ignition though, she leaned back against the seat, enjoying the first five seconds that she had to herself since this morning.
She couldn't afford to enjoy it for long though, she had to find Daren.
Shifting into gear, she left the hospital, then took a confusing route out of the city, in case she was being tailed.

She soon spotted Daren's car, and pulled up behind it, taking her phone out when she had braked.

Okay, I'm here. Be with you soon., she typed, then hit send.
On the outside she was calm, still professional despite the circumstances. That wasn't how she was feeling though. To be honest, Maya was panicking.

"Daren, you okay?", she asked when she caught sight of him and ran up. Damn she was glad she had changed into her sneakers, she would never be able to run in heels...

Nudge

Nudge was feeling more and more useless by the second. Not only could he not stop the white-coats hurting Faith, he couldn't even help her feel better...or could he? It was dangerous though, and could kill him in this state, but he could take some of her pain. It would mean he was in more pain though. Not matter, he decided, and wormed his way into Faith's mind, lifting some of the agony from her. As soon as he did so, his own body began to spasm, though he hoped that Faith was feeling a little bit better. That was the only thing that mattered to Nudge, even as he thrashed on the table, his mouth wide open in silent screams.

Faith suddenly felt some tension relieve but suddenly Nudge began to squirm and Faith shook her head.

How could he... Why would he do that... Fists clenching, a sweat breaking she whimpered, a tear sliding down her cheek. She was so close to freedom... She turned her head towards Nudge.

"Faith... Sorry.. Couldn't save Nudge." She says, her eyes filling with tears, she didn't want him to suffer... A small breath escaped her lips as she felt her stomach churn and she cringed under the pain.

Maya

"Hey don't worry 'bout me. I can get in and out of places easy enough.", Maya reassured Daren, an almost mischievous glint in her emerald eyes. While she might not have had the same experience of breaking into places, but she had done a lot of stuff when she was a kid in Dublin, with her brothers and their friends. Her friends too. Maya had been a pretty wild kid, even she had to admit.

A quick check of her pockets revealed a small knife, one that she usually kept with her. Just for luck really. She put it back and looked over at the people. Daren was right, those two were their best chance. But how to go about it? Daren was injured, and she wasn't exactly cut out for fighting. She was too small for that. She was fast though...

Nudge

"Faith... Sorry.. Couldn't save Nudge.", Nudge heard, but only just. He was starting to fade, his brain was shutting down, trying to block the pain.

No...Nudge...turn...save...Faith...,he sent, taking more of the strain from his friend, making his agony worse. He didn't care though, Faith had protected him too many times before. It was his turn now.

Dusk
Image

Dusk awoke finding herself staring up at the white, unforgiving white ceiling of the healing rooms. She was shocked at how quickly she had fallen asleep. The next thought made her hurry to carry out her plan. How long had she been here? The longer she waited, the more likely she would be dragged down to a cell and experimented on. She forced herself to sit up, letting out a sharp cry as her middle sent tongues of fire through her whole body. The wound had scabbed over, but every movement cracked and broke them a little more. She slowly moved her feet to the side of the bed, lowering them gently to the floor.
She braced herself before putting pressure on her feet. She let out an uncontrolled yell, as both her ankles flared up where the knives had gone right through them. Her outburst froze her as it cut through the silence. There was no way she could stay here any longer, she would have to move. She stood and fell towards the door leaning against it and desperately tried to keep breathing, as the pain intensified. She took in a breath with a shallow gasp, as her vision flickered slightly. Even so she had to keep moving. She was certain she would be killed if she stayed...or if I'm caught. The thought was unwanted, so she shoved it away, as she tried to take a few steps. In her desperation, the pain was bearable, if only just. She kept her back, which was currently uninjured firmly against the wall in order to keep as much weight off her injured feet.
She continued to make her way along the wall, trying to pick up the pace as the blood seeped through the bandages, leaving smudges of red on the cold concrete floor. She turned the corner before stopping unable to move herself. She remained balanced between leaning on the wall and on her feet before two patients in the beds caught her attention.
Nudge and Faith.
She forced herself forward, finally falling to her knees near the two beds. She was oblivious to anyone else in the room but the two of them.
Nudge seemed to be struggling with something, and a quick release of her barrier bought a quick on rush of pain. He was taking Faiths pain. She could tell using her empathy, that this would kill him, if someone couldn't stop him. She immediately created her own block and forced it on Nudges mind, blocking him from Faiths pain. Hopefully the block would hold until she had controlled Faiths pain as well. Faiths was not taken from another mind, meaning it would have to be taken from someone else. Dusk gritted her teeth before forcing herself to shield the other girl from the pain. She let out a moan as it hit her, but it was far better that she took it for now, after a slight rest, then the two of them who would surely kill themselves trying to ward it off.
"Nudge...we have to get out" her voice came out in a strange, strained tone before she started to shake. Small tremor's ran through her body as she tried to cope with her own physical pain, and the strain from trying to keep the emotional block on Nudges mind, and the shield on Faiths.

(I hope I didn't go to far, moving Dusk, just needed her to have something to do, and thought it would help Beka's block ;), if it's a problem happy to change it)
