The Prison Break

I was tied up, handcuffed and put into a solitary prison underground. I opened my eyes, but only saw black. I yelled, but no one answered. I cried, but there was no one's comfort. I want out of here. Won't you come and save me?

Introduction

I don't know how long I've been here... I remember being tied at first... Then cuffed... And then put in a dark, dark room.

I opened my eyes, but only saw black.

Image

Sleep never came easy. I tried hard, but I knew I was staying up longer than I was supposed to. I always remember the bright light that came from no where and blinded me every day. When it disappeared, I found food in it's place. I lived as best as I could in here. One day, I wondered who was there.

I yelled, but no one answered.

I was alone. I tried to pass the time by making imaginary friends, but they always left me and ran to a place with light and fun. I don't blame them. One day, I remember the jolt of the chains tightening as I hit the wall. I couldn't move. My arms and legs spread out, the blinding light appeared and I saw shadowy figures. Pain followed that I can't even explain to this days. I felt the stab of needles, one after the other.

I cried, but there was no one's comfort.

When they would leave, the chains would go slack. This seemed to become a daily thing also. I once tried to rebel, but there were screams and yells that I couldn't understand, Pain worse than before, and a choking feeling around my neck. I couldn't do anything, but... I felt a warm splash on my face. It felt... odd. It wasn't the usual liquid I drank. It was warm and after awhile, it got sticky. I found that after I was let back down, it was all over my cell. How peculiar.... Interestingly enough, the next day, it vanished after I was let down again.

I want out of here.

I've recently been hearing things. Not the usual things though. They are sounds from above. Is there even an Above? If so, what is it like? What's in this area above me? Will they cause me pain? But... the question that took over my mind once I started thinking about them was,

Won't you come and save me?

The world we know has... changed. Being replaced with people with unusual talents... These people can control things that normal people can't. Some, are completely harmless... Others? Not so much.
The dangerous ones are captured and put in prison. Avon Prison to be specific. The most dangerous one was put into solitude at the age of 10. On her 12th birthday, they started to experiment on her and try to figure out a way to turn her powers into a weapon.
Meanwhile, a rebellion of the Talented broke out. They WON'T be controlled by the normal humans anymore. They plan to take down the government and put their own leader on the seat of power.
This girl is now 18 and the rebellion has finally figured out about her and are trying to save her and, quite possibly, get her to join them.

"Good morning, Mr. Grant!" One of the night guards greeted Edison cheerily that morning, same as every morning at five, allowing him to pass through the first gate leading into the Avon Prison. "Good morning," Edison replied sternly. He was sure that this guard had never been inside of the building itself, merely serving as a shield to prevent forced entry, which is why he was allowed to be in a good mood. He'd never seen the horrors that developed behind the fortified steel walls. He could bet that most of the outside guards would never have the stomach for the torment upheld within the prison, and he was glad that they didn't need to.

He passed through two more gates much like this one, each one providing different forms of manual identity verification before he was allowed to enter the final gate, leading into the building that blasted him with a wave of air-conditioning upon entry. The small room that served as an elevator. Edison made his way towards the panel of iridescent buttons, and pressed the one labeled 'ᴄᴀʟʟᴏᴜs', which had been code for his main office. Upon the selection, a scanner passed behind the button, checking his finger print. This form of security was one that was maintained silently, as not many of his employees knew of its existence. When the scan was complete, the small room shook merely slightly signifying that it was off the ground, taking Edison to the level in which his office resided.

Before the doors opened, a green light flashed above a thin slot about two inches thick. He stretched the cord that his entry-card was attached to his pocket by and pressed it into the slot. The green light went off and the doors slid out of view, revealing a long hall down which Edison began walking.

On the left, he entered his office. Quickly, he sat down at his desk and started his computer. After inputting his password to login, he input his second level of passwords to access the live security feeds. 'sᴜɴᴅᴇʀ' was the first camera he checked on, the cell of Artemis Rune. On the screen, she sat against the wall, masked by an opaque-green color due to the night-vision setting on the camera.

Next, he pulled up the schedule, inputting another set of passwords to reveal a plan for experiments per prisoner. Today, sᴜɴᴅᴇʀ was listed under 'ғʟɪɴᴛ', and for the life of him, he couldn't remember what that was a code for. Honestly, that didn't happen very often because the only way to learn what a particular word was code for, you had to verbally ask someone. There wasn't a code-chart that told you specifically what everything meant, which proved to be an effective security measure most of the time, while other times it was simply a nuisance. However, those who couldn't remember these codes on a regular basis got a significantly lower pay than the higher-ups who did.

For this particular code, he'd have to venture to the laboratory for an answer. After checking over the other security feeds and the tests associated with the prisoners which resided within the respective rooms, he headed back to the elevator, pressed the button to the right of the door labeled 'sᴜᴍᴍᴏɴ', simply meant to tell the elevator mechanism to pick him up from his current location.

Upon re-entering the elevator, he hit the button labeled 'ɪɴsᴛɪɴᴄᴛ', meant to transport the user to the scientist's lair, A.K.A., the laboratory.

Artemis opened her eyes to the sound of her jingling chains and a pitch black room. Yawning and adding on a stretch that almost lifted her torn white dress too much. Getting on her hands and knees, she felt around to find where she was. Her hand found a small dent in the floor and she smiled as she figured out where she was in her little square. Getting up steadily, she made her way to where the food was always brought in. She didn't really know who brought it, if there was a who, or what it was, but she ate because it would give her stomach pains when she didn't. She found her way back to her favorite corner and sat cross legged as she began to eat.

Artemis always wondered what was outside this little box what was her home. She remembered that when she was younger, she didn't live here, but she couldn't really remember anything anymore so she just tried to get by in life.

Fang hang off the edge of the roof top, and pulled himself up. He looked down at the city. He'd gotten news of an underground prison, and went to go check it out. It was definitely hidden. Fang growled under his breath with frustration. He needed to find that entrance. He had gathered some info about the place, and learned a lot of it. His team had been working to gather this information for a long time. He re A few of the other members of his rebellion came up behind him and Fang told them to search the area.

After a while of searching, Fang had found a vent to go through. As he went inside, he ran down the halls, with light footsteps and cautious eyes. If anyone caught him, he'd be done for. He made sure that footsteps were quiet. He stumbled into the security room, and looked at the cameras. Sure there were guards there, but Fang kept quiet. As he browsed through the cameras, one girl caught his eye. She looked a little familiar. Was this the picture of the girl that the others had shown him? One of the guards looked back, feeling watched and saw Fang. He quickly responded and attacked the man, taking out both of the guards in a split second.

Fang turned back to the camera and looked for the girl's whereabouts. As soon as the information he needed was collected, he ran out of the room and down the hall, towards the girl. As he neared the room, he looked into the windows, hoping to see her. Fang froze as he saw her in her room, eating. He banged on the door to get the girl's attention.

Perched in the central security office, two guards glanced meaningfully at the individual security feeds, spying on each captive with hate in their hearts for all of those with talent. The door to the office sprung open without an access code, triggering a full-scale alert and basic-access shutdown. Each monitor in the room quickly went dead, no longer displaying the captives and their code-strings. The guards sprung from their seats, armed for combat; one fired off a shot that panged their eardrums, but otherwise, did no more damage. In a split second, Fang 'quickly responded and attacked the man, taking out both guards'. How this happened, I don't know, but apparently, it freakin' happened.

The only thing labeling the monitor that Artemis resided in was the word 'sᴜɴᴅᴇʀ', but since Fang was all-powerful and knew exactly where to go, he made his way to her door without a single problem from anymore guards that were probably out buying donuts or something, and the central security office was magically on the same floor as her cell. Whatever. The door was heavy, made of the same steel as the chains that restricted her within her cell. It was strewn with two keyholes required for entry, though there was one closed slot at the bottom of the door about two and a half inches tall and two feet wide that could be slid back without the need for a key, meant for giving her meals each day. In the top left corner of the door, there was silver lettering 's' and 'ʀ' which was essentially 'sᴜɴᴅᴇʀ' abbreviated into two letters. First and last.

- -

Edison was through the hallway and into the laboratory, making headway with a scientist who was pale and greasy, who spent many days and nights working here at a time. He was wearing a once-white, stained lab coat and his sleeves were rolled up. His hands were covered by elbow-long light-blue gloves. His glasses sat snugly on the bridge of his nose, and when he spoke, it was with a slight wheeze. Just as the Edison was about to ask him his question about 'ғʟɪɴᴛ', a small sound erupted from his pocket. He pulled out his PDA immediately and it spoke again in a soft voice, "Breach - ɴᴇsᴛ". Edison and the scientist exchanged an elongated glance of complete bewilderment, then Edison was out of the room and back in the elevator, pressing his finger to the button reading 'ɴᴇsᴛ'.

When the doorway opened, he saw one of his guards strewn across the floor between the doorway of the central security office. "Damn," he grumbled under his breath. He peeked his head in the doorway to see the other man down, but nothing else notable caught his attention. He pulled out his PDA and opened an application that would allow him to check a specific security feed of someone in particular whom he watched from home on occasion. "Artemis..." he sighed, when the application finally opened up, prompting him for passwords.

To his relief, she remained within her cell. The green light showed that she was eating her meal of the day until she looked up towards the door. Why would she look up? There was no other interaction scheduled with her until later. The intruder was after his niece. His heart did something strange within his chest; out of anger or fear, he did not know, but he turned around to see several of his officers who'd also been informed of the breach, now arriving at the location ɴᴇsᴛ. "They're at sᴜɴᴅᴇʀ. Let's move."

Behind him, armed forces marched into battle behind him as they swept into the hallways around Artemis' cell. They were spread in groups of three, lingering in one of each hallway that surrounded the location. The first group of three stepped forward cautiously towards Fang, issuing him a warning first, "Step away from the door and put your hands on your head. Get on your knees. Or, we'll shoot." The three officers were all tall and bulky, but extremely well-built. No doubting that they wouldn't hesitate to shoot a man if he was of Talent. They had murder in their eyes.

The second group waited behind the wall of the intersecting hallway for any signs of resistance before emerging from their hiding place.

The third group, containing Edison, was hidden as well, behind the third intersecting hallway, though they weren't armed with handguns. The three of them were wearing goggles and face-masks, ready to intervene at any moment with noxious gas and shock waves. This person had just entered a battle that they were not going to win. "Steady," he instructed the other two men who were noticeably smaller-built than those who were on the front-lines.

Artemis heard the bang on the door as she quickly stiffened. It was unusual for them to come while she was eating.... Let alone to bang on her door... It couldn't be them... But who then? She slowly got up and winced as the chains rubbed her the wrong way. They often bled but the shadowy figures always healed them up. She made it somewhat close to the door before the chains tightened. She was at the end of her chain. She knew it'd be painful if they pulled her back, but she wanted to know what was outside. She wanted to see and learn about the world she was taken away from. She cleared her throat weakly and then tried her best to talk.

"H-hello?.... Is someone there?" She tried to force out. Speaking was a rare occasion for her. The shadowy figures never talked back so she only felt awkward talking. Plus, it was sorta hard to talk while your screaming so she guessed it was understandable. Suddenly, she heard sounds unfamiliar to her and she backed away, scared. She had no idea how many were there or what they were planning. They always seemed to do this to her.

((OOC: Heeey,.... uh, as Abrielle said in the OOC, your sorta defeating the purpose of this being a well hidden prison and making it seem like this prison is easy to get into (which it's not) and just making it seem like it's taking no effort.... Yep, Kaire out))

Fang stepped back from the door, his heart thumping in his chest. He looked over at the guards and hesitated to fight them, seeing as they held guns. Should he make a break for it and come back later? He looked behind him, only to see another group ready to kill him. Fang relaxed, knowing there was no way he would escape them. He looked at the guards with a calm expression on his face and dropped his hands down to his sides. "Man. I'm sorry. I was looking for the bathroom." Fang said in a slightly joking tone. It was his was off diffusing a dangerous situation.

Edison overheard his comment, and was unamused by the gesture of humor. This was neither the time or place for jokes, and he could only hope that the infiltrator was competent enough to understand that, even though his verbal actions spoke otherwise. Edison remained firmly in his position, not willing to call out orders and give away his position from behind. The officers had procedures that they would follow without his guidance.

"I said on your knees." The lead officer exclaimed firmly as Fang turned to face the first group who had first approached him, clearly unphased by his attempt to distract them. All three of them still pointedly raised their guns in his direction, waiting for him to comply. "Hands on your head. Or we shoot," running out of patience, he felt his finger begin to pull only slightly at the trigger, ready to aim at the boy's feet. Should he be of Talent, then Edison would want them to keep him in custody- not just put a hole in his chest.

"Kid," one of the other officers next to the lead chimed in, "You're in a dangerous place. Do as we say and you won't end up dead." His tone wasn't menacing and gruff like it was with the other officer, but it was gravely serious and slightly sympathetic, as though he could almost feel sorry for the young boy. Perhaps he hadn't really thought out his 'noble' rescue mission, and he was simply trying to play the hero. And, he could understand him wanting to play the hero. They all felt as if they played the hero every single day, saving the rest of the world from the terrors that the Talented could bring upon them. They had a noble cause too, and they weren't going to back down because of a kid. He was outnumbered in ranks because those that had surrounded him were the higher-officers addressing an eminent threat. Normally, the security was barred with at least two dozen lower-rank guards, however, they were arriving as the night crew was headed out and hadn't made it to their stations yet. If anything was well thought out about this mission, it was the kid's timing.

"I just thought that maybe I could see my sister... I wanted to see if she was okay. She is locked up in there all alone. Could I just see her? I'm right here... just let me say I love her." Fang said to them, changing his expression. He just needed them to not only open the door, but put the guns down. Fang wasn't some sort of ghost that could phase through things. He was just as mortal as any other human. In order to get them to trust him a bit more, Fang fell onto his knees, and hunched over to hide his face as if he were genuinely sad. He was good at what he does. He'd stole from thousands of people doing this exact thing. "I'm sorry.... So sorry...."

Sister? Why on earth would you be sitting outside of Artemis' door if you were looking for your sister? Edison raised an eyebrow at him from the distance, surely he was just a daft young man who couldn't do his research before arriving at the facility. Artemis didn't have siblings. His sister only had one child, Artemis, and she was here, locked away. The idea that Artemis couldn't be free because of her dangerous talent sent a jolt of strife through his core, but he knew that there was a greater standard of good that needed to be upheld. He was there for her as much as possible; constantly, he battled the boundary between work and family, and it tore him apart. If the boy had done his research, it would have done him no good here anyway. Edison shook his head, and behind him, the other two men were as well, but as they watched the scene play out, they noticed the second officer lower his weapon and look to the leader of the three, hoping that they could calm the fiasco, but he held his ground, gun still aimed at the boy. "Hands on your head," the officer said sharply for the third, and final time.

The third officer who had remained silent up until now stepped forward with a pair of handcuffs jangling at her side, ready to put them on him. The sound of her heavy boots clicked against the tile and echoed through the hallway. As the officer stepped forward, the leader finally lowered his weapon; it was against regulations to raise a weapon towards another officer. "Listen, kid. We might be able to get you to talk to your sister, but we have to take you in and ask you some questions first. You're in a lot of trouble for breaking in here, and you're not getting off easy, but we'll let you see your sister if we can," she spoke calmly and knelt beside him before taking one of his wrists and placing a cuff around it. It clicked into place, and again, the sound echoed through the open space. There was probably more noise through this hallway right now than there had ever been before. Avon prison was typically a quiet place unless the ones with Talent were being uncooperative, and even then, the yelps remained inside of the cell. Very rarely were they removed for testing.

Because she had spoken so calmly, and honestly, she figured that there may be hope enough instilled within him to cooperate, so she slipped the other cuff around his second wrist from behind his back, and hoisted him to his feet. Her strength may have caught him off guard, but she spent a lot of her free time training so as to not be intimidated by men. She would never want to be seen as a pushover in their eyes, but she would never want to be seen as brutish as the rest of them either, so she worked delicately to maintain a balance between the two.

However, none of them had forgotten their two fallen comrades back at the central security station, and they were not about to take this child lightly. He had committed murder, and would be treated as such. There was absolutely no way around that. "Come on, let's find you a seat," she said, ready to lead him away to another wing of the prison. "We've got some questions for you."

Fang growled under his breath as the woman yanked him onto his feet. He was not too excited about being shoved around. He knew he needed to cooperated until he was given a chance to fight back. But now he was handcuffed... but that wouldn't be the first time. Fang looked up at the woman with a sad and hopeless expression. "I just... just wanted to see her.... It's been years...." He whined, looking back down to his feet. He allowed them to walk him down the halls in silence. Fang wasn't to happy hearing the screaming in the halls earlier. This place was creepy.

---

The Rebels called out for Fang, having not seen him for an hour. The small team was one of the best in the rebellion and part of Fang's personal team, if they could keep up with his brash actions. One of them used their talent to locate a trail for them to follow. They all followed the trail to the building. Fang was way too good at his job. These guys couldn't find a single entrance. This little hole didn't even look connect to the building... Not that they could see the building. The crawled in and found themselves in the hidden prison.

They were absolutely shocked with their surroundings. They didn't believe anyone when they would say that such a place existed. A guard walked turned the corner, and saw the rebels standing there. He pointed his gun at them, which did not rub them the right way. The only girl in the group ran at him with her incredible speed and tackled him. The guard tried to reach for his radio, but the girl wouldn't let him. The others cheered for her obnoxiously, until the smarter one of the group told them to shut up.

Now, he knew this was completely false, but he knew that by doing this, they wouldn't be prepared for his talent when they took them into custody so he just got a friend to make it look like he used fire.

"Ooookay~, You caught me. Bravo guys." He said with a smile and then his eyes caught a women among them. "Oh! My bad my fair lady. I didn't see you there." He said with a smile. Re: The Prison Break

Hello! Can I be the talent leader? Just wondering what talented does (s)he have?

Re: The Prison Break

No, it wasn't supposed to be underground and sure, you can write the map ^^ Also, I plan on following the storyline I put up (Unlike MiraMija) And having the 2nd in command get captured. Now, for being talented, it varies for different people. Some gain an element like fire, water, etc. Some become better in other areas like, for example, running, fighting, surviving, etc. Now, for Artemis, she is a bit different. Her talent is triggered by emotions in the beginning (Can be triggered by something else if she trains it) It's something you don't wanna get caught up in fear of death. I still won't spoil what she can do, but that's basically it on talents.

Re: The Prison Break

If it's not self-explanatory, I wouldn't mind explaining. The idea is that, at the very least, the first floor is visible from the ground, but if you wanted it to be underground, then the rest of the levels could be underground, so that it doesn't seem like such a big, tall building, but it still allows people access to the building if they know what they're doing.

There's more than one elevator and they all swivel around the building horizontally, then at the points where there would be an entrance, vertically. They are smart elevators and don't crash into each other. ~.~

Any floor lower than the science level is a prison floor. I didn't draw out a map for that because I didn't know how many floors I should do, but I may eventually come up with one for them.

Like I mentioned in my first post, there's a few outer guard security people you have to get passed to get in the door that allows you entry to the Elevator Room.

If it wouldn't bother you, I'd like to draw a map of the place, so there's no more confusion. I'll ask again, was the place meant/supposed/has to be underground?

And I would like to say that breaking and entering would not exactly be a plausible way for getting in. There could be an undercover rebel officer or like you said, there could be a second in command part of the rebel team that gets him/herself capture purposely. We're in a futuristic enough time for there to be a bug implanted in their ear, so the outside rebels can listen in and communicate. Of course, it couldn't be bulky. They've find it'd have to be tiny- probably have to make an incision on the cartilage on the inside of the ear to put it there or something.

I'm also having a bit of trouble deciphering what it means to be Talented, exactly. Artemis' talent still hasn't been revealed.
For example, the female officer I mentioned, perhaps when she puts her mind to it and works out, she will gain muscle mass faster than normal, so she can become stronger, faster? Would that be plausible? I'm still a bit cloudy on the subject.

Re: The Prison Break

Hang on... >< I'll tell MiraMija he's off..... >< I feel the same way and I'll just play the rebels ><

Re: The Prison Break

To be honest, I didn't even know that this was an underground prison. Is that what you intended, Kaire?

I don't think that they're doing what they are in secret. People would know about the Talented that are being locked away to keep them safe.

I thought it would be like an up-scale, high-class security prison with only trained professionals working within the building- not people that could just be slapped around like nobody's business.

This is frustrating and I don't think that I can continue. Sorry.

Re: The Prison Break

That was a little bit abrasive and completely shatters the idea that this is anywhere near a half-decent, half-hidden prison. *sigh.

I'll work with it. If it's a fight you want...

Re: The Prison Break

Yah. Pretty much... Or we could have a rebellious uncle or an 18 year old girl who loses control and struggles to get out of there and stay alive while running away from authority. :D Possibilities are endless.

Re: The Prison Break

So, it's completely up to the rebellion to bring in the plot?

Re: The Prison Break

Nothing in mind at all XD Probably just a new day of testing but they will note that she seems to be getting stronger and will have to -ahem- weaken her, so to say. More like hurt her so to a point where she will have to rest awhile before moving on her own.

Re: The Prison Break

I posted. :P

Edison is about to go ask the scientists what sort of 'treatment' Artemis will be undertaking today. If you have anything in mind, Kaire, I'm open to suggestions.

Re: The Prison Break

Okay, so this is taking awhile to start so I think 3 people should do it. MiraMija, you have full control of the rebels. Abrielle, you have full control of the guards and I'll try to help out both.
