Ken smiled and shook his head.
Karla sighed.
"Of course he doesn't. Because he can somehow survive outhere, but we can't. Let me guess... We have to consult the books, huh?" She got a nod from Ken. "Well, that does it."
She flipped open the book.
"Huh. It seems to be a 'How to' book on..." She looked up, her expression unreadable. "Making things out of wood."
Ken nodded.
"Well, if the book had everything from the start... It'd be no fun. If you flip through the pages, it'd show you that only the first three pages have anything on it."
Karla nodded, confirming it.
"First page, the introduction..." She began to read directly from the book.
"Introduction. 'Welcome to Terraria. In this book, you'll find the essentials to your survival in this world. You will meet your guide shortly, don't question him, he is your guide through this world.'" She looked up at the guide who only smiled. She rolled her eyes.
"Let's see... Blah blah blah... I think he rigged it, there's three paragraphs about how important the guide is... Huh, this is peculiar... There's a crossed out section, I can't read most of it but I can make out the first few words... 'You are the only one in...' That's it... Wait, a few words after that I can make out '...for now...' but that's really it." She sighed.
"Oh well. Now, on to the secon page. Hmmm... 'First, use a couple pieces of lumber to make a work bench. This will provide you with a flat surface on which you can make more items.'" She looked at Ken who tossed her a few pieces of wood, more like a few logs. They flew at her, and a backpack appeared on her back and they flew into it.
"The book said we'd get backpacks as soon as we needed inventory... Huh." She fashioned the lumber into a makeshift workbench, but it seemed to mold itself with her help and soon she had a perfect work bench.
"That was a lot easier than I expected. But what's the point of all this?"
Ken smiled at her.
"Hahaha, nevermind that. Looks like you guys are getting off to a head start here. I suggest making a wooden sword though, for backup when that copper one breaks. You're also being pretty calm for newbies." He looked at Karla, then to Zidane. "But, Daniel's acting like I expected you guys would. Doesn't bother me. He'll realise he needs to work with us, eventually." He leaned forward. "But before we get to all that detailed stuff, Karla. Zidane. Do you know where you are right now?"
Karla narrowed her eyes.
"Wait, how do you even know our names? And yeah... The book mentioned we were in... What? Terikaka? Heh, caca..."
Ken stuck his hands in his pockets.
"Realx! It's my job to know all the names of the newbies who enter this land, ya' know, find them, then guide them to the basic rules of the world." He smiled. "Y'see, there's no fun in it if people get taken out before they even realise what's happening, y'know?" He shook his head. "Anyways, enough stalling. Welcome to the playground of the gods! Welcome to TERRARIA!"
Karla cocked her head to the side, confused. "Hey wait, what does that mean? I-"
Ken looked over his shoulder.
"I'd just love to tell you all about it later... But for now, you've got guests to attend to."
And then, a bunch of slimes, four actually, burst out of the bushed right behind Ken. He ran forward, behind Karla and Zidane. He didn't have a sword. They did.
Karla winced at the sight of them.
"Are they wobbling menacingly at me?" She readied her sword and looked at Zidane, next to her. She was shoulder-to-shoulder with him.
