Gone now... The thought made her frown. Her eyes glanced around the small room, her eyes lingering over the mattress. For the first time in years, she was going to have a bed. She only wished it was on better circumstances. Her eyes then drifted to the drawers for a moment and she looked down at herself. Once she started healing and feeling better, she would have to go out and find herself some more clothes. There were tons of houses that were abandoned, so perhaps she could find one with clothes that would fit her. Anything to get her out of the shirt that showed half her stomach and had a hold in the shoulder.

Her gaze went back to him as he spoke. A gentle smile appeared across her lips as he spoke with her. Honesty. That wasn’t something she expected with a question like that. He was protective, and she thought he would be that way about her question, telling her that she should get some rest or simply leaving without an answer. For him to tell her the truth made her feel good – made her feel better about how well they all worked together to get through their war.

Rae’s mouth opened to ask him another question about what he thought was best to do with the vampires that wanted to work with them. She wanted to know the history he seemed to have with the leader of the vampires, but it fell shut when he said he had to go. As he walked away, she stepped forward and quickly grabbed his hand, stopping him for a moment. When he looked back at her, she just slightly bowed her head.

“Thank you. You know, only the ones that are truly brave admit that their scared, and you, Calvin, are the bravest man I’ve ever met.” She said with a light smile and then let his hand go and slipped into her room before he could say a word back to her. She moved to sit over on the bed, blinking her eyes a bit to get used to the dark, reaching over to light the few candles that sat there so she could see. Rae opened the drawers, sighing gently when she found them empty. She ran her head over the top of the dresser and tucked the drawers away nicely before she looked under her at the mattress. Her hand ran along it and she laid down for a moment, laying on her good shoulder. Her eyes felt heavy again, but she wasn't going to sleep yet. There would be plenty of time for that later.

Rae licked her lips before she blew out the candle as she left, letting the curtain fall back into place before she quietly started to explore. She stayed away from the common area to give him privacy for the call he was making, as she searched for water. Rae wanted to try to wash up and get the blood off her skin and out of her shirt since it was starting to become uncomfortable.

Silas examined the location Colby relayed to him on the map before him. It was a neutral location, but well concealed from prying eyes and the patrolling military. Calvin wasn't a fool. He'd chosen a good location for a meeting. But also perhaps a good location for an ambush. Silas had no intention of going alone, and he was quite certain Calvin would do the same. Before he could respond to Colby's request to come along, however, Viktoria swooped into the room, smiling.

Her momentum was quite halted upon seeing Colby before him, and Silas watched as she rolled her eyes, clearly disdainful of the girl. Silas leaned back in his black leather desk chair, crossing his arms. He'd have to deal with the tension between them at some point, although he wasn't quite sure what the source of it was. In the meantime, however, Viktoria informed him that they had more important things to discuss, namely a run-in with the lycans, and the new girl that followed behind her, Jessenia.

Silas rubbed his temples as he listened to Viktoria's report. So she had come across lycans. Perhaps she'd rescued the girl she brought along from them. There hadn't been any missing weapons from the armory, and all silver ammunition had been accounted for, so it didn't seem likely that she killed any of them, which was a relief, especially with this truce with the lycans he was working on.

"So did Colby," Silas said calmly, "only her run-in with the lycans was under my orders. We're establishing a truce with them, outside the city, tomorrow at midnight. And yes, Colby, you can come," he said, smiling slightly in spite of himself, hoping she'd stop with the puppy-dog eyes. It was awfully distracting.

"And welcome, Jessenia," Silas continued, giving the girl a nod, "I'm assuming Viktoria saw some potential in you. Should you wish to join us, you'll stay with us for a few days, and should you prove that you can pull your own weight, and contribute to the good of the coven, you'll be allowed to stay."

He wondered just how old she was. He'd seen vampires hundreds of years old stuck in the bodies of children before, but they had all belonged to covens already, or decided to never join one. That she was searching for a coven pointed to her being a younger vampire.

"Viktoria, we'll discuss your actions tonight later, and in private. For now, what happened with these lycans? You look unhurt. Do you know who they belonged to, or what they were after?"

Lauren had a feeling he'd say yes. He seemed like a driven man. But he had a point about the wounds. He wasn't exactly in top shape.

"I wouldn't worry too much about that. You can take the time you need. We also have some...well, medications, back at my lab. Stuff you won't find at your average hospital. I'm sure they'd help you get back out there quicker than lying around at home."

Her guard looked eager to be off. It was near constant chaos around the hospital as people were rushed inside with the hopes of receiving treatment, and prayers that they hadn't been infected by their attackers. Lauren wrapped her jacket tighter about herself as a slight wind picked up.

"Now, on to the job. The government's told me countless times that there isn't a cure, that I should focus my efforts on ways to exterminate the vermin and such, but I'd still like to think I can find a better way. To do that, though, I'm going to need a live test subject or two. The government just executes anyone they capture, fearing their powers, and preferring genocide to experimentation. They certainly wouldn't approve of me doing this. I'd use the guards they assigned me, but I'd rather not leave myself vulnerable to attacks, and they're just getting paid to protect me, not hunt monsters for me."

She shifted her weight onto the other leg, brushing a strand of brown hair from her face.

"You can involve your militia men if you want, or go it alone, I don't care, so long as you deliver a captive to me without broadcasting it to the world. We have equipment you might be interested in. An armory of weapons. Automatic rifles, body armor, grenades, you name it. I've also been working on a special kind of ammunition that needs field testing, something that could potentially bring down a vampire or lycan without killing it. I can reward you with pretty much whatever you want. Money, weapons, protection, you name it."

Lauren realized that this was probably a lot to take in, but she liked the look in Zane's eyes, and she felt like she wasn't wasting her time here. She knew he'd get results.

"So, do we have a deal?"

Quentin returned once again to the staff room with his head in his hands. He'd been called in to the victim of a vampire attack - this time an innocent bystander - but it had been too late. They'd been taken away to the quarantine wing, and beyond that point Quentin had no say in what happened to them. He was sure that rehabilitation of some kind was possible. Biting necks wasn't the only way to procure blood to drink. It didn't need to be assumed that they would turn into murderous animals. But this wasn't his hospital, and the course of action was not his decision.

He leaned against a cabinet. The victim had been a young girl, about the same age as Jemima. It was times like these when it was difficult to remain objective. It was such a waste of life. But he kept reminding himself of the same things he told people in his more lucid moments; not all victims were killed, some were just infected with a disease which was benign in comparison to, say, a victim of rape being infected with HIV. And it was the demonization of these species which was the reason they were forced to remain underground making these random attacks in the first place. If the vampires could be provided with blood by other means...

He took a deep breath, his body wavering slightly. New York was not the place to be. How ironic that the city worst infected with vampires and lycans should also be showing the ugliest face of humanity. He looked at the clock again. Jemima should be home by now. He hardly ever checked up on her; she was an independant woman who had shown time and again that she was sensible and capable of looking after herself. Why would he worry about her? But an unusual emotive pang tugged at his chest, and he felt the urge to make a call.

Using the phone in his office, he dialed the number for Jemima's cell phone and waited for a response...

Kara looked nervously as the lycan who appeared to be in charge looked around at the others. Not that she was one to judge, but they looked pretty damn useless. After a while he decided, "Ok, well you're not going to fare well on your own. We'll take you to meet Calvin-our alpha." Both Alex and her were somewhat surprised by his statement; they'd both believed him to be the alpha.

"I can't see that he'd have a problem but fuck knows I've done enough executive thinking for one night." Alex gave his signature toothy grin that looked somewhat unnerving to those who didn't know him well.

Kara was elated. Out of the corner of her eyes, she saw the male turn his eyes towards her. She saw him give her a warm smile, and she smiled back. Kara almost blushed and moved her hair out of her face. She looked at the ground and wiggled her toes. She still felt young at heart, and had stopped counting her age years ago. She knew she had passed the senior citizenship line, but other than that, she'd rather not know her real age. Forever young, but still grown, that was one of the things she loved about being a lycan.

"Quickly, get her in the van and keep her quiet. No need to rough her up, she's already been dropped off a building." Kara frowned. Why would they need to in the first place. She looked at the girl and held out her hand, putting her other hand on her knee and bending down to look her in the eyes. She smiled and shook her hand slightly, silently offering help up. She should be able to stand with assistance at least.

Alex pushed himself to his feet and lazily dusted off his pants for about two seconds before giving up. He looked over at Kara and saw her offering the girl help. Alex frowned. Whatever the girl had done, it had stirred trouble for this guy's pack, and she was a human afterall. He clenched his jaw quickly then released it and headed to the van.

Jemima listened to everything with dread. She was being kept alive. That was something. But that didn't mean anything about this was good. For one thing, she was starting to wonder exactly what her dad could have that these...things would want in ransom for her. And if he didn't have anything...what then?

She looked quizzically at the young looking female who held a hand out towards her. The gesture confused her. Had she been wrong to assume these two newcomers were also lycans? But the plain psychology the gesture triggered was irresistable, and Jemima took the woman's hand and allowed herself to be pulled to her feet. As she did, she stepped towards her and muttered, "Are you hear to help?" She said it quietly enough so that the other lycans hopefully wouldn't hear.

Wes watched Kara help their captive up, deciding it could do no harm but noting that he still didn't know these two knew lycans from adam. If they'd heard anything of the conversation (and it was likely) then there was the risk they'd take the human for themselves, but they were outnumbered and it would be a risky move. He hoped they wouldn't try anything to screw them over. It was a long time he'd seen a female acting in such a benign manner, and it caused an uncharacteristic outbreak of the warmth inside him.

He flexed his arms to shrug the feeling away; now was no time to be getting the warm fuzzies. Perhaps he'd get a chance to know Kara a little better when he wasn't in charge of setting up a hostage situation. His comrades looked at him again, no doubt wondering if they should take charge or let the new girl continue looking out for the human (heck, if she could be persuaded to get into the van willingly that'd make things a whole bunch easier). And then his cell phone rang again. He span around to face away from the scene and took a few steps further down into the alley, hastily getting the phone out and answering.

"Hi, hi boss." he said, "OK it didn't quite follow the script but we've got the girl, so all's well that end's well right? Oh and..."

He put his other hand up to his face and spoke in a lower voice. "...there were vampires in the area, we actually had to rescue the girl from them. And we've got two more lycans with us, say they're looking for a pack to join. Seems like they're genuinely on their own, I think they're telling the truth. What do you think?"

Jemima looked back at the lead male shuffled off to answer his phone. The alley went silent for a moment as everyone seemed to take an interest in the phone call, but then something else caught her ears. She could hear a muffled buzzing coming from her clutch bag which had fallen to the ground when she was being held by the vampire. Her phone was ringing! Obviously the loudspeaker had been broken in the fall because no ringtone was playing. But if she could answer it, hopefully the mouthpiece would still be working and she'd be able to scream for help.

No, no way would she get to her bag, get out her phone and answer the call before several of these creatures were on top of her. At least one person was acting non-threatening towards her, and even if it was just an act, it was the best she had right now...

Colby Halloway

Another vampire swung in through the window, followed by an unfamiliar vampire. Colby watched skeptically, and saw the first vampire, Viktoria, give Colby a dirty look. The simple eye roll was enough. But, it didn't faze Colby at all. In fact, the idea that she thought she could intimidate her made Colby laugh. The golden eyed girl's puppy-dog eyes were wiped off her face, and instead she smiled softly and looked at her feet laughing lightly at Viktoria's actions. To be honest, Colby had nothing against the brown haired woman. Except, ever since she met her, Colby had a strong distrust and disliking for her. The way that she assumed she could control everybody by threats or intimidation was the complete opposite of Colby's care-free, laid back personality.

The red haired vampire bounced lightly on her toes, listening to their conversation to see what was going on with the new vampire. So, her name was Jessenia? That was a cool name. Colby hummed quietly to herself, her cheerful nature taking back over. Her humming wasn't loud enough to distract the three others, but enough to keep Colby distracted. Then, she heard that Viktoria tried to... talk... to the lycans, and the idea made Colby giggle again. You see? She tried to 'talk' to the species that them vampires weren't buddy buddy with.... Once again in threat. Why did that not surprise her?

Keeping quiet still, Colby listened in until it sounded as if they were finished talking. Silas had agreed that Colby could come, and she flashed the coven leader a grateful glance with a dazzling, thankful smile. "Thanks!" she practically sang happily. Colby spun neatly on her heel to turn around so she could head out and gave each of them one last glance over her shoulder. A grateful glance to Silas but an irritated and hostile one towards the other vampire. Colby didn't judge Jessenia because she didn't know her, and gave the new vampire a warm, friendly, and welcoming smile and nodded before dashing down the stairs. But before she did that, she adjusted the cap on her head and blinked.

"I'm going to head out." she told them and then dismissed herself, heading down the stairs and out the door.

Colby was met with familiar, and rather peaceful land. Being outside was comforting to her, calmed her nerves. Colby took a deep breath with a grin, shut her eyes, and exhaled slowly, her beautiful golden eyes reopening. Her footsteps gave no sound, and she wandered away from the serenity of the woodland area. Considering Colby hadn't fed for a while, she had that pull towards the city. She hated hunting, delaying until it was necessary. She thought it was inhumane and just cruel. Since she hadn't asked to be a vampire, she didn't really adjust to the whole blood thing fully. With a reluctant sigh, she walked toward the, surprisingly still busy, city, the scent of blood pulsing through her keen, sharp senses.

Soon enough she reached the city, and walked past a large hospital, her eyes tracing the building carefully, as they did to every other building. The vampire was just glad the sun was down, and it was somewhere around 12 am or 1 am. Luckily she had on some jeans and a sweatshirt now, being able to change before she left, and had her baseball cap on still. Her straightened red hair fell and cascaded over her shoulders, the color complimenting her pretty pale complexion nicely. Her jeans were old and washed out skinny jeans, and on her feet were blue socks with Adidas slides. She had on a gray lacrosse sweatshirt and a a different Cookie Monster flat bill hat. She liked those hats, her brother always wore them and she always put them on.

Snapping out of thought, the young vampire sighed and walked casually down the sidewalk, still rather busy, buzzing with cars and people. Colby scanned the people carefully, trying to pick out somebody she could tell wouldn't be a huge loss. Maybe if somebody went down an alley, a robber or something. At the thought, she chuckled. What was the likeliness of that?

Jessenia followed the Woman into the large house. She was immediatly hit with the familar smell of candles, and the specific smell of Vampires.

"Viktoria. Welcome to your new home." The woman [/b]Viktoria[/b] said as she looked around the room. Jessenia was glancing around also, taking in the wooden floors and high walls. Her crimson eyes gleamed with excitment, something she rarely felt now that she was a Vampire. She had spent years and years alone, and it was nice to be around others of her kind. Of course, she had met others, but had never been able to be in a coven. Suddenly, a man walked down the thin stairs, an unamused expression apon his yet, yet Viktoria still greeted him warmly.

'Hi Travis! Ah, so that was his name. The man's expression didn't waver as he began to talk. "Silas wants to see you... again. And this time I'll watch you." Silas must be the coven leader... Jessenia though as Viktoria and Jessenia made their way up the stairs. They walked into an office, as another man sat at a desk infront of them. The boy, Travis, stood in the doorway, overlooking them. Viktoria smiled at him, before turning to Silas. Jessenia saw a small girl in the corner of the room, her hair a flaming red colour. Apparently, Viktoria saw her too, as she stopped quickly, and stared at her before carrying on towards the desk. Moving towards the desk, Viktoria motioned for Jessenia to sit. Jessenia pulled up a small wooden chair, sat, and pulled her knees up to her chin, hugging them lose to her. It was a constant habit of hers, and it is sad to say that she couldn't break it.

"This is Jessenia. I met her while I was... out." She looked at Jessenia, motioning towards Silas. "This is Silas, our coven leader." Jessenia waved slightly, a smile drifting across her lips.

"I know you probably want to talk about Jessenia, but there's something more important to discuss. I ran into a pack of lycans." Jessenia nodded, and looked over towards Silas, her face serious. Well...as serious as a 15 year olds face can look. To be honest, Jessenia wished she would mature, if only a little bit. She was almost 25, and wished her looks would reflect it.

"So did Colby, only her run-in with the lycans was under my orders. We're establishing a truce with them, outside the city, tomorrow at midnight. And yes, Colby, you can come," Was he talking about the Redheaded girl in the corner?

"And welcome, Jessenia. I'm assuming Viktoria saw some potential in you. Should you wish to join us, you'll stay with us for a few days, and should you prove that you can pull your own weight, and contribute to the good of the coven, you'll be allowed to stay." Jessenia nodded once more, pulling her knees from her chin, and straightening her back. She didn't feel comfortable, but that really wasn't important now.

"Fine with me." She agreed, not entirely sure how to react. She was happy, obviously. But also worried that she might messs up something. This was her first coven, and she hoped it would be her only Coven as well. Suddenly, Colby girl spoke up.

"I'm going to head out." She said, smiling broadly towards Jessenia. She returned the favor, smiling just as wide back to the girl. She seriously hoped that Viktoria and Colby didn't hate each other as much as it seemed they did.

Felope had fallen asleep on the couch, but had a restless sleep. She rolled of the couch and yelped painfully as she hit the ground. She opened her eyes and sat up, looking around, seemingly confused. She sighed, seeing she was home, alone. She sat up and stood up, walking to the couch, sitting down and looking at the mobile telephone. She pushed a button and a peep sounded before a low, male voice. She gasped and got it harder, then listened closely. It was the Lycan she had met and fallen in love with. She smiled hearing his voice again. She always loved the voice. She listened silently. And then, his voice was gone at once and another voice was heard. She narrowed her eyes closely before sighing and burying her face in her hands.

She raised her head again and made a small note. She then walked to the kitchen and looked around before hearing the bell of the front door. She opened it and looked at a small child, the grandson of her neighbors. She smiled and ruffled through his hair as she let him in, and so the neighbors. They sat on the couch and she in a separate chair. ''What brings you here?'' she asked.

''Just, we heard some screams again and wondered how you were doing,'' the woman said, taking a sip from her tea that Felope had made. The man nodded as the boy watched the house curiously. He then yawned and leaned back on the couch, looking at Felope silently.

Felope smiled and sighed. ''Just another nightmare. They are coming more and more, but I'm fine. Don't worry,'' she reassured them, smiling as she watched the boy fall asleep. She took him to a separate room and laid him in a bed so he could sleep. Then went back to the neighbors and sat back down again. She took a sip from her glass of water.

"Are you here to help?" she heard the human girl ask in a hushed whisper. She heard the human without any difficulties. Kara smiled and brushed off the girl's back, replying in an equally quiet whisper.
"As much as I can," she drew back smoothly and held out her hand, this time to shake hers, "I'm Kara."

Alex walked up to Kara and put a hand on her shoulder, somewhat startling her. "Kara," he said lowly. He nodded his head in the direction of the van, silently conveying to hurry up. She made a quiet 'oh' sound with a sheepish smile and took the human girl by the hand, leading her gently and slowly to the van. He watched her go and ran a hand through his hair, letting out a long sigh through his teeth. He'd wanted a pack for years, and he finally got one, thankfully. If they'd kept going on their own, they'd end up dead in some vampire's basement, if even something that good. But something about this girl seemed like trouble...Too late now. He turned to see Kara get in the van, then move over so the girl could sit beside her. Alex sighed and went after them.

Viktoria sat in her chair, listening to Silas speak. So there was going to be a truce between their coven and a pack of dogs. She could see the benefits, but she wasn't happy about it. Wouldn't that be ironic if the lycans she'd run into hours before were part of that pack? The likelihood of that was minimal, so she pushed the thought from her mind.

"Viktoria, we'll discuss your actions tonight later, and in private. For now, what happened with these lycans? You look unhurt. Do you know who they belonged to, or what they were after?"

His words made her frown. She didn't appreciate being scolded, even though he was actually her family. She chose not to respond to his threat, and instead spoke about the lycans. "I was feeding in an alleyway, Jessenia had followed me. Towards the end of our feeding, a human girl stepped into the alley, asking if we needed help. As soon as she had appeared, a van with 4 to 5 lycans pulled up after her."

She paused, gathering her thoughts. She stole a glance to Jessenia, who was staying quiet, her knees drawn up to her chest. Her eyes found Silas again, and she continued. "I quickly grabbed the girl, threatening her life. The lycans paused, which made it clear they were after her." She stood up, and began pacing back and forth, the thought of the lycans angering her once more. "Jess and I both tried to find out why they wanted her, but the dogs wouldn't talk. Eventually we decided not to chance being caught by humans, tossed the human off a building, and ran. I assume they saved her, and took her."

She stopped pacing and sat back down. Her eyes flew to Colby as she stood up, acting all sweet and innocent towards the other two, but she caught the hostile look the red head gave her. She returned the scowl back. After the girl was gone, she relaxed a little more. She always felt so uptight and uncomfortable around the red head. Something about her set Viktoria off. Besides the fact that Silas seemed to love her so much.

She had a feeling Colby wouldn't get in trouble for leaving the coven, even though she would. She waited to hear Silas' words.

"I wouldn't worry too much about that. You can take the time you need. We also have some...well, medications, back at my lab. Stuff you won't find at your average hospital. I'm sure they'd help you get back out there quicker than lying around at home."

Landon really liked the sound of that. Anything that would get him up and moving regularly faster, he was game for. He listened to her speech, and it was good enough. He honestly didn't care how the creatures were exterminated, as long as they were. He would almost prefer to kill them. It was more final, with no chance they could ever come back. Somehow vampires had come into this world. What was to stop it from happening again?

The challenge of bringing in a live subject thrilled him, however. It was something that wasn't easily done, and would take a lot of planning and coordination He would definitely want a small amount of his men with him. Only the ones he could trust. Plans were already forming in his mind, and he smirked at the thought. And then she spoke about weapons. That sold him. He would finally be able to have top of the line equipment, something that would hopefully prevent him from ending up in the hospital again.

And then she offered him anything he wanted. Of course, that was easy. He knew exactly what he would want from her, especially if he didn't make it through.

"We have a deal, on one condition," he said, his eyes staring into hers. "No matter the outcome of this... project, my daughter will be taken care of for life. Money, protection, whatever. If you can do that, I'm all yours."

He watched her, waiting. His eyes drifted to the man with her, her own personal guardsman. He seemed uncomfortable being outside of the hospital, and eager to leave. He smirked, and gestured towards the parking lot. "Shall we go?"

As the phone rang, Calvin's mind wandered. The new girl, Rae, came first. The way she talked to him and looked at him, it made him feel so many different ways. She calmed him, made him feel on edge, made him feel uncomfortable, and other things he couldn't place. She reminded him so much of Hattie. That was what made him wary. Hattie had been his everything, and now she was gone. Being extremely close to others made it that much harder when they were gone. He couldn't let himself become too close with her. Whether seeing her as a little sister... or something else entirely.

Finally, after a number of rings, he heard a voice answer on the other end of the line.

"Hi, hi boss. OK it didn't quite follow the script but we've got the girl, so all's well that end's well right? Oh and..." His voice lowered considerably. "...there were vampires in the area, we actually had to rescue the girl from them. And we've got two more lycans with us, say they're looking for a pack to join. Seems like they're genuinely on their own, I think they're telling the truth. What do you think?"

Calvin growled, angered by Wes' words. What was it with vampires today? He hadn't seen one in what seemed like ages, and now today his pack was running in to them everywhere. This wasn't good. The good news was that the human was their captive. Thankfully they hadn't managed to screw that up. The thought of others gave him mixed thoughts. His pack needed more members, but that they had come forward in this situation made him hesitate.

"Get back here immediately," he growled into the phone. "No stops, and you drive as fast as possible." He contemplated one moment, then spoke again. "The two others can come. But watch them closely. If they do anything out of the ordinary, don't hesitate to kick them out. We don't need anything jeopardizing this mission. I'll see you soon."

He closed the phone, placing it back in his pocket. He sat in a chair, running his hands through his hair. Sometimes he wondered why he had agreed to become the pack leader. But he always remembered that no one else could do the job as well as he could.

"Rae," he called out, his voice echoing in the empty tunnel. "We're going to have company."

When she finally found something she could use to bathe, she took as little as possible and promised quietly that she would replenish the supply when she could move around a little easier. She glanced around and made sure she was alone before she took her shirt off and set it to the side. Rae started to hum a soft tune to herself, but quieted when she remembered that the place carried the sound, not stopped it. She cupped her good hand and leaned over the dish, and brought the water up to the shoulder, hissing as it stung her wound. She did her best to examine it, but it wasn’t the easiest to see your shoulder. She cleaned it as best as she could, dried herself off and then looked at her shirt.

Rae covered the front of her and quickly but quietly slipped back into her room, looking around again one more time. She pushed the mattress to the side and thankfully found a shirt and a sock that had been left behind. The sock made her giggle since it always frustrated her when she could only find one. Rae carefully pulled the shirt up her arm and then over her head before she put the other arm through. It wasn’t the most graceful move, but no one was watching her anyway. She brushed herself off, put her old shirt and the single sock in the drawer and closed it, smiling a little bit. She had belongs.

Rae’s travels always consisted with a duffle bag and a suitcase. She took the clothes that she could, and the few things that were important to her. About fifty years ago, she decided that she wouldn’t try to fit in with the people anymore, and living out on her own wasn’t hard, but it was sure a pain in the ass to take a bunch of things on constant travels. She then eventually restored to a book back, which she ended up leaving behind in the alley when she was shot.

“Damn.”

Her head picked up at the sound of her name, pushing the curtain to the side and stepping out, heading towards the common room. “Company?” Her eyebrows drew together in curiousness. “Who’s coming?” She asked as she moved into the common room and took a seat on the couch, one of her legs tucked under her. She leaned her good elbow on the arm and leaned her face into her hand. That nap would have probably been a good idea, but she figured the adrenalin would kick in when she needed it. Besides, there was no way she was going to sleep knowing that people were coming. Her fingers lightly picked at the jean around her leg wound, keeping it out of it, glad that it was starting to heal up a little bit. At least it didn’t hurt much anymore.

Felope let the neighbors go home and sighed, sitting back on the couch and resting her head in her hands, thinking of what advice she had been given, and about the Vampire Coven. She belonged there, but she didn't want to belong there. It seemed not fair, that she hadn't gotten a choice, that it had been her life or her death, but at the moment she didn't have much either. She wished she had died, not become a Vampire instead and live like a dead person anyways. She wanted to go outside, in the sun light, do the thing humans did too and be herself again. She wanted to return home but couldn't, there was no way back to humanity, and she would always be the Vampire she was. So, maybe she had to join the Vampire Coven.

She sighed and got up, looked around, made a small note for the neighbors and left. She went back to the Subway where she had met the Lycans, knowing a meeting was coming. She would join them, right then, though she rather joined the Lycans. She had no choice, the Vampire Coven was where she belonged, if she wanted that or not. She hoped nothing would happen though, that she wouldn't have to fight against the Lycans. She didn't want that, she couldn't fight them, she would only think of the Lycan she fell in love with, though she knew she might have no choice. It made her upset.

She stopped before the Subway and looked around silently, hoping to be alone, and not followed by anyone. She decided to wait for a while somewhere where she could keep an eye out on the Subway, and then enter and join in. That was probably the best for her, then she could think for a little while longer.

Jemima looked at Kara for a long moment and then nodded silently. The conclusion was the same as before. If there was any glimmer of hope in this situation, this new lady was probably it. Either that or the situation really was as bad as it seemed to be.

She glanced back at her bag as the phone inside it stopped vibrating. She'd missed the call. Perhaps if that happened enough times it would raise alarm bells...but after how long? She followed the lady and slid into the van beside her, looking around taking in any detail that might help her out later. Which right now wasn't a great deal.

Wes nodded earnestly. "You got it. Back in fifteen."

He put his phone away and blew out a long breath of relief. Hotfoot it back to the den? That suited him just fine. He turned around and quickly darted his eyes about the alley noticing a few people including the girl were out of sight, but quickly realised they had got into the van. Apparently without much coercion. Some other lycans were still standing about, looking to him as if they needed permission to think for themselves. Wes shooed them angrily back towards the van. He didn't know what was up with the two newbies, but they'd garnered the doctor's daughter's trust and in a way that undermined Wes' own position. But that didn't matter. All that mattered was the end result.

He hurried back around to the drivers seat and made sure everyone was in the van. "OK..." he muttered to himself, "...not the best night out I've ever had but at least I wasn't paying."

As he fired up the engine and reversed out into the road he glanced around cautiously, but there was no sign of anybody else. The streets were eerily quiet tonight. Were the humans focussing there attentions to another part of town? Who cared. Again, nothing mattered but results.

He began the journey back to the hideout, and listened to a few of the people in the back mumbling to each other indistinctly. He turned to Kara and Alex and sighed irritably.

"So you guys got any trouble following you?" he said, "Just been laying low for too long? Because I tell you now it's not like we can afford to turn down friendlies, but at the same time we can't support any dead wood, so I hope you guys are bringing something to the table, y'know what I'm sayin'?"

Quentin waited a long time before hanging up. I wasn't like Jemima not to answer her phone, but it was fairly late, and she may have gone to bed. Still, something didn't sit right with him. There was something different about tonight. He decided he'd try to clear the decks for a couple of hours longer and then call time on the night. There were enough staff to cope without him, and he'd already worked well past his allocated hours. But something in his bones told him that he needed to look after his own family tonight.

Alex understood it just fine. "Nah, I got it, we're the same thing you said with just laying low. Figured that lately, staying in numbers couldn't hurt," he shrugged as if to say, 'whatchya gonna do' to the whole situation. Kara nodded.
"No enemies we've made recently, and we've taken care of any that A-I mean, we've, made in the past. Nobody from our background should give you guys any trouble as far as we know," she assured with a small, tight smile. Kara looked down at her feet. That, and it's pretty hard to support ourselves. In a group, we'd be able to make it, but with just us... she figured that since her and Alex would be 90% self reliant in this pack, it wasn't something that Wes needed to worry about too much. Kara remembered an old song she'd heard years ago and began listening to the melody in her head. Alex amused himself by tapping his finger against his knee and looking out the window.

He couldn't understand why the human was so important. Alex knew well that if it was bad enough to get Wes and his guys mixed up with vampires, then it had to be some serious stuff. Facing off against those chicks just for this one human? There had to be something important about that girl to make it worth their time. Well, sure, they could be just good Samaritans but they were in New York for crying out loud. There were higher chances of Alex dating a vampire. He frowned faintly, trying to figure out what it could be that was so important about the girl. He looked over at her. She wasn't bad-looking for a human girl, but fear was radiating off her. Of course, almost all the humans disliked the lycans and vampires.

Wes nodded slow. "Alright then." he said, "I guess we understand each other."

He kept the pace up until they arrived back at the 'den'. He was especially looking forward to facing up to Calvin, who had sounded pretty uptight on the phone earlier, but the important thing was that they had what they'd been sent out to get. He parked up the van in a discreet spot and jumped out the drivers seat, scooting around to usher the human, Alex and Kara out and towards the entrance.

"Home sweet home," he said facaeciously, trying to keep up the genial act which seemed to be keeping the girl compliant so far, "we'd better check straight in with Calvin..."

He looked about and thought of palming the report off to one of the others, but the looks he was getting suggested that everyone was keen to let Wes remain in charge whether he liked it or not. He grumbled to himself and shook his head.

"Right, follow me then." he locked the van and waited for everyone to disperse into their proper place, before sparing a quick look back between Alex and Kare. "So..." he said, clearing his throat and trying to act casual, "...are you two, like...y'know? Or...well, nevermind." He stopped himself, noticing that some of the others in the pack were smirking and shaking their heads at him. What? He just wanted to know...

Several lycans took posts by the entrance as Wes proceeded in, checking to ensure Jemima, Kara and Alex remained close behind. There were some unfamiliar and perturbing scents in the tunnel, but he couldn't hear anything which would cause concern.

"Cal?" he called out, "Yo boss, everything OK?"

Jemima proceeded in fear. She took in everything she could, but the place she'd been taken to was neither better nor worse than she'd expected. It seemed the Lycans lived much as humans would if they'd been forced underground. Everything her father had said about them not being animals rang true in what she was seeing. But that didn't change the fact that they'd taken her captive. And the lady who'd spoken nicely to her didn't seem to have much say in what was happening, so her hope of salvation through her was beginning to wane. All she could do was play along with what she was told and hope that something would work out.

Silas raised his eyebrows. "A kidnapping, then? Well, that's different. The lycans finally got enough sense to try something other than brute force. They must have been from a pack. A kidnapping implies that there's something they want, either from the girl or from someone who values the girl's life."

He hoped they hadn't been from Calvin's pack, what with the tenuous truce meeting on the horizon. A confrontation between his coven and that pack like that could make the meeting awkward. Especially since he was planning on asking Viktoria to come along. She seemed somewhat...resentful towards him, perhaps because of the difference in the way he behaved towards her and Colby. Silas doubted Viktoria understood that he valued her just as much as he did Colby. He simply had a different way of treating her, since she was a very different person than Colby. He had often entertained the idea of asking her if she was interested in receiving training from him, to become a Death Dealer. They were few in number now, with not many vampires mastering the skills of old, the deadly arts beyond their enhanced physical attributes as vampires. Viktoria reveled in being a vampire, he could see that, and she was as fast and capable as Silas had ever been. And no doubt the coven would need more who could fight with more than just their teeth in the days to come.

"You'll be accompanying me to the meeting as well," he continued to Viktoria. "Hot-headed or no, you have too much potential for me to keep you here while the coven moves ahead. I ask only that you follow my lead."

Silas then turned to the girl Viktoria had brought in, Jessenia, curled up in the chair next to her with her knees tucked to her chest. He wasn't sure what to make of her. He couldn't help but be delighted when his coven members brought him promising recruits, and at the same time he strongly disliked those who sought no more than a shelter, a place to hide from the other species, and a group to take care of them. He couldn't yet tell what type Jessenia was, but he had a suspicion she was the former.

"And what about you?" Silas asked, leaning back and propping his feet up upon his desk. "What was your take on the lycans you ran into tonight? Did you think them mindless brutes, like so many of our kind?"

It was a bit of a test. He needed to learn more about her, her opinions, her beliefs, her personality. Every detail was important, if Jessenia was to become a member of his family.

"And how old are you? If I might ask. You were clearly bitten young."

Lauren smiled happily at Mr. Zane, flashing brilliantly white teeth. "We can do that. Your daughter will have whatever she needs. For now, my laboratory is easily one of the safest places in the city. I've got a full detail of guards assigned to protect me and anyone else inside. I can send a few of them to pick up your daughter, if you wish."

Her guard led the two of them back towards the black suburban they had arrived in. Lauren was very pleased with how this trip had gone. If Mr. Zane proved valuable, which she believed he would, then the doctor truly believed she could make some meaningful progress towards a cure, and if not that, a kind of more effective weapon against the creatures. Taking care of the daughter would be simple enough, at least temporarily. For now, she still held sway with higher-ups and could simply request that such a thing be done, as a reward for a kind civilian who assisted her. However, if her work turned up no results, and she lost her power and resources, things would undoubtedly not go as well. But, Lauren was confident in her abilities. If Mr. Zane could produce a subject for her, she could produce something of value from subsequent tests.

The three of them climbed into the vehicle and set off away from the hospital, back towards the lab. As Lauren sank into the comfortable passenger seat, she remembered just how exhausted she was. Perhaps a few hours of sleep were in order, once they got back, and once she had shown Mr. Zane the goods she had promised.

Jessenia didn't remember when, but she eventually began to daydream, the mumble of the two older vampires droning on faiding into the backround. She was jerked from her silent state when Silias propped his feet up on the mahogany desk, a loud thunk resoning throughout the wide office. Jessenia jerked her head up, only to find that Silias was looking at her.

"And what about you? What was your take on the lycans you ran into tonight? Did you think them mindless brutes, like so many of our kind?" He paused for a second, before quickly beginning again. "And how old are you? If I might ask. You were clearly bitten young." Jessenia sat still for a moment, contimplating what to say. Moments later, she began to speak.

"Hmmm...Well, I don't believe the lycans are "mindless brutes", as you put it. I honestly believe that they are quite inteligent...some of them." She paused. "I mean, take tonight for instance. They seem to have more knowledge of this "disaster" for both of our kinds than we do." She made quotation marks around the word "disaster". "Or maybe they were bluffing, and were just looking for a fun time with a terrified human, and didn't want us to interfer. Personally, I don't believe it's the latter, but I might be wrong." She closed her mouth, and smiled slightly. She was surprised at herself. Moments ago, she had been goofing around with a bunch of Lycans. Now, she was having a conversation with the head of a coven. She glanced over at Viktoria for a moment.

"I might call them Vermin...but I do consider them equal to us. I mean, I don't think they asked to be like that, like most of us didn't" 'OKAY JESSENIA. Time to stop talking...They probably think your a...Lycan-lover or something.' She looked up sheepishly, hoping her boldness wouldn't get her in trouble.

"Also, to anwser your question, I'm 23."

Viktoria nodded at Silas' words, agreeing with him. It had been pretty obvious they needed something from the girl. Although she hadn't looked extremely special to Viktoria. Not someone who had the potential to wipe out their species, which is pretty much what was implied. 'She's involved in something that's gonna be bad news for both our species if it goes ahead...' the lead dog had said. The girl hadn't seemed like much of a threat when she'd been holding her over the side of the building.

"You'll be accompanying me to the meeting as well. Hot-headed or no, you have too much potential for me to keep you here while the coven moves ahead. I ask only that you follow my lead."

Viktoria didn't think she was exactly hot-headed, but she kept her mouth shut for once. "Very well," was all she replied to her coven leader, somewhat cool. Truthfully, inside she was joyous. She'd been expecting to be punished, something like being sent to her room. Not that she would have followed the rules, but it was better to be asked to go along than to sneak around and try to follow her coven mates to the meeting. But seriously, if Colby didn't at least get something said to her for running off, Viktoria was going to have to punch a hole in a wall, or knock down a whole wall... just something.

It was then that Silas turned his attention to Jessenia, so Viktoria just sat in silence and listened. A small smile crossed her face as her friend rambled on. Was she actually nervous? Although the fact that she was actually 23 irked Viktoria slightly. Even this little-looking vampire was actually older than her. She knew that her strength and speed were great, even better than some of her species that were older than her. But still, she was the youngest in the coven, and still would be even if Jessenia joined them. A long string of curses went through her mind, but she didn't speak any of them out loud.

She let Silas finish his conversation with Jessenia, feeling the need to squirm in her seat slightly. The longer it went, the more anxious she became. Silas wouldn't actually kick her out of the coven, would he? After all, she'd brought back useful information, a prospective member, and hadn't gotten hurt. So really all she'd done was defy his word. Of course, that wasn't exactly good either.

Once they were done talking, she stood and walked to the wall behind her, leaning against it. "Alright, so how much trouble am I in?" she asked, smirking slightly.

"We can do that. Your daughter will have whatever she needs. For now, my laboratory is easily one of the safest places in the city. I've got a full detail of guards assigned to protect me and anyone else inside. I can send a few of them to pick up your daughter, if you wish."

Landon contemplated a moment, before nodding. He rambled off the address of his mother's house, imagining how she would react when government officials came to take Evie, his two year old daughter, away. That was a conversation for another day... hopefully. He really didn't think he could deal with his mother right now. He followed Lauren's personal guard, who led him to a 'inconspicuous' black suburban. How typical. Regardless, he climbed into the back seat, enjoying the relaxing position, which was able to take some pressure off his wound. He had to admit, at the present, he was just looking forward to whatever magic drugs the government had that could make him heal faster.

The pain was starting to escalate again, so he laid his head back and closed his eyes. He supposed he should probably get some rest, but in all truth he was excited to get back out in the field and hunt the other species again. He could imagine it now. He would be part of helping eradicate these creatures that could destroy the human race. Then how would everyone else feel, knowing that they'd turned him away, saying he was too emotional to keep a clear head. If anything, the emotion drove him to do a better job, to avenge his late wife.

Thinking of Lillian just made him extremely angry, so he attempted to clear his mind by asking stupid questions. "So where exactly is this lab of yours at?"

"M- ..Our pack mates are heading back." Calvin realized that the girl didn't even know what he was up to. He wondered if she would have a problem with it. Guess he'd find out soon enough. They didn't have to wait too long for the others to show up, and the time spent waiting was in silence. He didn't know what to expect. Would the girl be terrified beyond belief, or come in kicking and screaming? If she was making a fit, that would definitely make it harder to question her.

"Cal? Yo boss, everything OK?"

The sound jolted him out of his thoughts, and made him stand up. "Down here," he called gruffly. The pack approached, in all of it's glory. A whole five lycans. He noticed the two that didn't belong right away, and he narrowed his eyes at them. They seemed to be alright... of course they hadn't even opened their mouths yet. Before any introductions could be made, he spoke bluntly. "I have one rule in this pack. You do what I say, no matter what. You break that, you're out. Otherwise, you're welcome to everything we have, and the protection of the pack." He only paused a second, before turning to Rae. "This is Rae, she's new as well." He gave Wes a look saying 'I'll explain later' before sitting down next to Rae, and gesturing for the others to do the same.

"You two," he said as he pointed to the two lycans closest to the human. "I want you take her to the room at the back of the hall. Both of you should stand outside until I come to get you. You are not to leave your station. Understood?" The two lycans nodded, and set off with the human. The room at the back was the smallest alcove, the girl would only be able to sit comfortably, and there was no way of escape. Thankfully, he had found a set of bars farther down the tunnel, and had set them up in front of the alcove. He wanted her watched every minute of the day.

After they were out of earshot, he turned to Wes. He had much explaining to do, what with the vampires actually being present during their mission. Only after his story would Calvin confide what had happened during the lycan's absence. It wasn't something he wanted the two newcomers to hear. "Alright, tell me what happened."

23. So the girl was just as old as Viktoria. That was interesting, as was her opinion on the lycans. "Well said," he said with a nod. "This coven doesn't have room for pride, for some belief that we're the superior race and that we need no others. Of course none...well, very few of us," he continued, glancing at Viktoria and remembering how she had come to the coven not so long ago, "asked to be vampires, but we are what are we are now, and all of us plan to make the most of it."

He folded his hands in his lap. "However, it's very important for you to know whatever you think of the lycans, they are not us, and they are not part of this coven. The good of this coven must always come first. Every member of the coven must be more important in your eyes than every person on the outside, be they vampire, lycan, or human. Even the ones you might not be so fond of," he said, glancing at Viktoria once again.

Silas sighed when Viktoria asked how much trouble she was in. "I never meant to punish you, only to talk to you. You only put yourself in harm's way, not the coven." He glanced back towards Jessenia with a small smile. "And so far, I'm rather pleased with the recruit you've brought me. I was just worried about you. You left without a word to anyone. I wasn't even sure you'd return at all. I know there have been some things about the coven that haven't pleased you."

The coven leader stood, moving to the window, looking out at the first signs of dawn on the horizon. He drew the blinds closed. "If it's any comfort, know that I have plans for you, Viktoria. With war looming as it has been, the coven needs...well, those who are willing to do whatever it takes to see us through. And since there's so few of the Death Dealers left, I figured it was past time I pass on my skills to someone suitable."

Landon's question jolted Lauren, who had just been about to nod off. "Hm? Oh, it's on the outskirts of the city, well away from the more dangerous parts. The lab itself is underground, beneath the home of a former mayor, who supported me a great deal in getting the government to fund me. I assure you it's the safest place in the city right now."

The sun was just beginning to come up and lighten the city. Lauren sighed. She always found sleeping so much harder when the sun was starting to rise, even if she'd been awake all night. She wondered just how many hours she'd been awake for. Too many. It was no wonder she wasn't having any success.

Felope looked at the sky and rose, turned around, gathered her stuff and went a bit away from the Subway, finding a small place, she could shelter in it for now. She opened the door, went in, closed it behind her and looked around at the damp, cold, wet, old and almost unpleasant place. She placed her bag on an old shelf and ran her finger through the dust on the old couch. She sighed and sat down on it, looking around, remembering bits and peaces of her past, feeling like a small child again.

This was her old parents home, before they moved to a bigger, new home when she was three, leaving this house behind. She could remember her first steps in this house, how she had tried to walk to the couch whilst her parents were forcing her to go to the couch and sit down on it. She could remember it closely, like it had been yesterday, it was all clear in er head. She missed her family and hoped they were alright.

She picked up her bag and opened it, getting out a small picture of her parents and her brother, standing next to each other, smiling. She smiled faintly before setting the picture down on the small, wooden table. She than took out what seemed like a old piece of fabric, in fact, it as her old stuffed animal. She had found the old thing when she was around seven years old and found comfort in it ever since. She hugged it and smelled it, it needed to be cleaned but she would worry about that later.

After that, she laid down on the couch and grabbed the small blanket that laid on the floor, pulling it over her as she holded the stuffed animalclose to her. She closed her eyes and thought back to her life when she was a child, she thought of her family and her past, smiling faintly, and sometimes feeling like she was about to cry.

Colby Halloway

As Colby still wandered the city, she saw a jet black car roll by, and she seemed to get the chills for some odd reason. And it wasn't because she was just naturally colder than the average person. It was like something... evil was in there. So, she decided just to turn back and find something later, although she was starting to get edgy from lack of food. Why couldn't she hunt like normal vampires and not feel for her food? The brightly colored haired woman frowned and muttered something nasty and unintelligible beneath her breath. The younger vampire simple and swiftly made her way back to the meadow looking land where the coven house was tucked away at. Well, she did tell them she was going out, so whatever. And by her senses when she approached the home, she couldn't scent anybody but her leaving, so that meant Silas had not left to speak with the Lycans yet.

So, with that, Colby dashed back into the house and flopped on a couch. The same couch as the beginning of the day. And she looked out the window to see the early sun rise and illuminate the trees. Leg bouncing up and down irritably, she got up again after about three minutes and wandered around from room to room, then about half and hour later, she made her way back up to the study, of course they were still chatting up a storm, saying something about Viktoria coming along. Colby stifled a groan as she walked in.

"Um, just letting you know, but I'm pretty sure that Hyde said midnight..." she reminded them and peered out the window. "So, we might need to move it, suns starting to come up." she added on and leaned against the door frame lazily.

Rae simply sat at the couch beside the chair, her chin in her palm. The silence wasn’t awkward, but nice and she simply sat there and watched him. She didn’t think that he knew she was watching him since he seemed to be really into thought. If only she could get him to talk about what ever it was that was on his mind. He had been zoning out quite a bit.

Our… A smile curled her lips up and she looked at those who entered and then heard the rule. How come he didn’t tell her that before he allowed her to be part of the pack? How come she didn’t get anything from getting up when he told her to stay sitting? Then the ache in her shoulder made her realize. Oh right. She shifted a little and tightened the strip of her old shirt over her shoulder. The sight of the human made her pause and every thought had left her head.

Her eyes narrowed the slightest bit and she looked over her closely. “You might want to double check her for weapons. You’d be amazed where we could hide them.” She said gently with a lowered tone of voice. She didn’t want to step on their leader’s toes or anything, but she did want to make sure what ever it was that was going on went fine. Besides, one of them injured by a human was enough. Rae mentally growled as she shifted her shoulder again, watching at Calvin then moved to sit beside her. He must be a nervous pacer. She seen him sit, move and then sit again a few times now.

She gave a gentle smile and a half wave to her introduction, but she didn’t say anything, just so that he could get into his conversation about what happened. While she listened, her good arm reached up and she pulled her fingers through her hair, brushing away the knots. She still ached to change her form, and wished something would give her a reason to do so, but she could only imagine what it would do to the wound. Hurry up and heal, damn it.

Jessenia has known Silas for under 20 minutes, but she already had a feeling they would get alone quite nicely. There views seemed to be quite alike, along with their strong personalities.

"However, it's very important for you to know whatever you think of the lycans, they are not us, and they are not part of this coven. The good of this coven must always come first. Every member of the coven must be more important in your eyes than every person on the outside, be they vampire, lycan, or human. Even the ones you might not be so fond of." With a nod, Jessenia said a simple "Aye", and turned towards Viktoria, a broad grin upon her face, eyebrows raised in a look of excitment. As Viktoria and Silas began to converse once more, Jessenia began to space out, again. This time, though, she began to wonder what her life in the coven would be like. Her stomach tightened slightly as she began to worry.

'Will the rest of the coven like me?...Will I be able to contribute enough?...What if the Lycans come back...." The thoughts were racing through her mind at an ungodly rate. Her smile wavered slightly as she pulled her thumb nail up to her mouth, and began to nibble on the nail, another one of her horrid habits.
