Personality: William is a rare man amongst the white settlers of the region for, unlike his English counterparts, he treats the Indians with a mix of respect and admiration. His good nature and quick laugh have made him many friends amongst the local Indian tribes and white settlers alike. Beneath the kindness however is a hardy soul who can brave the deepest night of winter, the thundering rivers and even the rigors of war. He, like all frontiersmen, is a bit rough around the edges, though he keeps himself clean shaven, and smelling like a pile of animal skins, but even these cannot disguise the leadership he learned as a former militia officer in Canada.

Brief History: William was born on the wild moors of Inverness Shire, one of many young men of Clan MacPherson who were forced from their homes by hunger, boredom, the thirst for adventure or running from crimes. With a dozen others he took the boat for the Americas and while a James MacPherson got on the boat, no such man got off the boat. Rather he seemed to have vanished during the voyage and instead the strapping personage of William Hackett was born.

He landed in Halifax which offered him no great delight and so he headed west, eventually settling down as fur trader and hunter in the employee of the Hudson Bay Company. Skilled with words as much as his musket he learned to admire and respect the local Indian population. It was not to last however as the same passions that had gotten him into trouble with the law in Scotland got him into the same in Canada.

He fled south and made his way to Harrisburg from where he planned to begin moving west in search of somewhere to call his own.
