{ Childhood/Family Life }
Sebastian's family is the sort of old money that eventually seems to sink into the genetic code, as though money making were an inherited mutation. His family is such that there has always been time and resources which allow a person to explore themselves. This is why his father, considered by most who meet him to be borderline childlike and occasionally eccentric, was able to go on a trip backpacking around Europe and Asia in his teen years, and why he has always had interesting stories to tell Sebastian and Sebastian's younger sisters, Willow & Delphine. Seeing him outside of work, one might not immediately realize that Mr. Arendale is the CEO and Owner of a corporation that specializes in vacations and such things, the head of the Arendale Amusement Parks and Hotel Chain. He just seems like a charming but slightly off middle aged man. Sebastian's mother is in many ways similar --she fell in love with his father, after all. Born on a more middle rung of the social ladder than Mr. Arendale, Eliza Arendale nee Dominguez was still in college, majoring in Nursing with a Minor in Experimentation when she met her husband, Frederick, and married him. This is the family that Sebastian, and later his two younger siblings, was born into. He was raised with art, music, wealth, and parents who believed that travel and nature were the best tutor. He has traveled quite a lot, thanks to this, and thus always felt slightly uncomfortable with sitting still in classrooms all day. This probably explains why he still tends to have trouble with academics. He was taught by his father and mother to try and avoid judgment, though this was often paired with cheerful strings of swears from his mother, whose personality is quite similar to his in its cynical idealism. A life of traveling, which fostered his love for art and various cultures, brings Sebastian to who he is today.

{ High School Career }
Sebastian, in his usual fashion, came to St Jude's reserving all expectations and judgments. This continues to be the case, for he views the negatives and positives of the school, where money flows easily and so does gossip, to mostly balance each other out, on the average day. It was only natural that he should join the Art club soon after enrolling, and he can often be seen in the art room working on his latest project. Traditional learning styles don't work well for Sebastian, unfortunately, which explains the fact that his grade average tends to be on the lower side of the spectrum. He doesn't mind, however, because he doesn't view such things as reflective of him as a person. He has won a few art competitions since enrolling at the school, as well.

{ Personality }
Sebastian is a multi-faceted individual, just like any person, but that doesn't stop many of his friends from labeling him as the 'angry hippie'. He half-protests the hippie part, but there is no doubt that this young man has a temper on him. He doesn't take well to being insulted, and unlike those who can simply ignore it, usually has to say something in response. Picking battles is not a lesson taught in any school he's been to, so it wouldn't be strange to find him insulting a burly man double his size without batting an eye. His quick temper usually flares with a heavy dusting of swear words, but luckily his anger is just that --quick. He is not one to hold grudges, though it has happened, and tends to move on from little insults rather easily. He just has to give a proper response to the one whom has irritated him, of course. Sebastian is not exactly a master at internalizing feelings, one must understand, and that is perhaps the source of his frequent but short bursts of anger. People may look at his dreadlocks, or the dried clay on his hands and charcoal smudges on his arm and think: hippie pacifist artist, but that very much underestimates his ability to become mad.

And yet, his quick temper often comes out with him calling someone a string of foul words, tied up with telling them to love their neighbor. He seems to be genuinely angered by people who he doesn't view as 'decent', which is defined as considerate, relatively kind, etc. This might be hypocritical, given that he is just as red in the face as them about things, and Sebastian admits it, but he never claimed to not be one. He is a cynical optimist, wanting to believe the best in people, and sincerely thinking others have potential, but thinking that a lot of people are too stupid or too violent to achieve their potential. It saddens him greatly, the wasted potential, and he expresses it by insulting these people. Strangely, most people would say that he is not entirely judgmental, despite his vocal criticisms. This is because the optimist side of him gives people a strike system, in which he will accept nearly everything. It is after that that he begins to view people as annoying. So he doesn't take first impressions as valid depictions of a person, which gives him credit at a person, but that doesn't mean he won't judge later on down the road.

At least he'll always be honest about what he thinks. Sebastian believes that lying to sugarcoat something is about as useful as giving a sick person a sugar pill and telling them it'll cure them: it's pointless, and may do more harm than good. For this reason he has a policy of complete honesty, with the exception of secrets he has been told. He himself has little to no secrets, taking pride in being a completely open book. If nothing else, one can always trust him to not be lying to them, even if it is a person he openly dislikes. People know where they stand with Sebastian, and he expects others to be just as honest with him. Most of the time they aren't, and he deals, but it's still a pretty thought. Perhaps his confidence is what enables the young man to be so honest. Raised in a nurturing environment, he never learned to be insecure or fear looking weird. If he wants to dance, he will, without thinking about it. Worrying about social consequences isn't part of his process, and this is perhaps part of his charm. Most of the time, anyway. Some people may be made to feel uncomfortable about it, he supposes.

But his kindness and loyalty as a friend make up for any bluntness or critical aspects. While he has come to not trust others to be as good as he might like, he still tries to be kind. Mostly to people he likes, meaning all those who haven't proven him wrong, but kind all the same. He is a loyal friend, all the way up to the third strike, more than willing to drive an hour to pick up someone who ended up stranded or something along those lines.

{ Parents }
Eliza & Frederick Arendale
Sebastian, the eldest child of the Arendale family, gets along very well with his parents. Part of the family dynamic has been that, since he turned fourteen, they began to treat him less like a child and more like an equal, and while such a thing might not work for most families, it does for the Arendales. He respects both of his parents very much, and is slightly closer to his father than he is to his mother. Travelling around with his parents throughout his childhood continues to be the backdrop for his fondest memories, and his relationship with him has yet to deteriorate. They don't seem to focus very much on his education, giving the young man a lot of free reign, and while this means his grades have slipped by unnoticed, he does prefer this sort of arrangement.

{ Siblings }
Willow & Delphine
Willow and Delphine may enjoy occasionally trying to confuse people as to who is who, but they have never been able to fool their elder brother. He knows which of them scratches their cheek when nervous, and which is more likely to keep her hair up. The girls are several years younger than him, but he gets along with them very well, just as he does with his parents, for this is the sort of family his is. Willow is somewhat more melancholy than the sunny Delphine, but both of them have that child's brand of wittiness that he finds incredibly adorable. Were someone to hurt his baby sisters, Sebastian would suddenly find that fists work just as well as words, most likely. They will probably attend Constance Billiard when old enough, but he is quite glad it won't be while he's there. Hopefully gossip will plague the school less when they come around.

Image

Image
{ Build }
Sebastian is rather tall, standing at 6'1", and while he isn't involved in any sports, his general preference for being outside and moving means that he is physically fit.

{ Hair Colour }
Dark Brown

{ Eye Colour }
Brown

{ Distinguishable Markings }
Sebastian has a small silver nose ring on his left nostril, but his ears are not pierced. He has a small symbol on his left arm that appears to just be a box split in half, but is in fact the chinese character for sun or day. The fact that he seems to have hands perpetually smeared with some art material or another might also be considered distinguishing.

{ Personal Style }
Liking such articles as cardigans, colorful scarves, V-neck shirts, and comfortable pants, Sebastian's style might be considered relatively unremarkable. His personality is far more interesting than what he wears.

So begins...

╚═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
For the first day back on the school year, Bastion would have liked to see his childhood friend, Jane, having gone the past two months without a peep from the girl. The sudden silence was very nearly insulting, especially given the fact that the story her parents gave about it was one which he was rather hesitant to buy. Having grown up with the Lynches being practically his aunt and uncle, he can tell when they are blurring the truth. Of course, it's not his place to wonder, really, but damn does Bastion have the tendency to be nosy about these sorts of things. Anyway, since Jane did not make any contact with him, he has chosen to assume that she will be hanging out with the queen bee of Constance, Sydney Vale, and therefore he would prefer to find himself several meters away at all times. It's not that he truly hates Sydney, he doesn't really know her that well actually, despite having gone to her parties before [as a friend of a friend], and she isn't much his type, platonically speaking.

Thus, he makes the trip to get his other closest friend, and one of the people who despises Jane the most, Daphne. Unlike most of the school's population, his friend lives in one of Manhattan's developments, surprisingly well placed on the Upper West side. As he lives on the Upper East Side, it is about a half an hour walk down to her building, but he hardly minds a morning walk.

Thus, while many of his classmates get into chauffeured cars or munch on breakfasts their housekeepers made for them, Bastion waits at the staircase of the building for Daphne to come down. Admittedly, he did eat food prepared for him by hired help earlier this morning --an egg wrap sort of thing that she makes when the kids are rushing out. Willow and Delphine had still been asleep when he left, as had his father and mother. Bastion always had been the earlier of risers.

Daphne's father has already left for the school. One mercy of the work program through which she attends the school and is able to use their cello is that she never has to come in early for work. Prone to staying up reading into the dark hours, often until night blends together with day during the summer time, mornings have never been kind to the fair haired girl. Still, she manages to be up and heading downstairs in a relatively timely manner, so that Bastion does not have to wait downstairs for too long. She finds his fondness for her building almost funny, considering how she thoroughly plans of getting out of it and into an apartment she doesn't need help paying for. She supposes that these things are a novelty for him, though Bastion himself may not even notice it. She loves him dearly, he is one of her closest friends at the school, but it is sometimes hard to tolerate the money that jingles in his mannerisms. Dreadlocks or not, he is old money, and it shows.

"Good morning," she greets him, sneaking up on him from behind as Bastion watches a few children across the street draw on the pavement with chalk, their mother sitting on the steps and watching over them protectively. But of course, Bastion doesn't jump. He never does, when the quiet girl steps up from behind. Perhaps that is why they get along, and why he has developed feelings for their mutual friend, Persephone.

Bastion merely turns around with that easy smile which hides the temper and criticism behind it, raising his eyebrow. "Morning, princess. Ready to go?" he calls her princess, despite Daphne being the furthest from royalty at their schools. Perhaps it is because the sort of arrogant feeling she gives off, or the fact that her outfits could nearly be mistaken for expensive on some days, if one doesn't realize that everything she buys is third-hand. Their freshmen year, he often commented on it, finding it ironic that someone so bitter towards those who look down on her financial status would make attempts to appear wealthier than she is, dress-wise. Several little arguments later, he merely calls her princess, a nod towards her secret vanity.

"Are we going to get Persephone?" Daphne, who dislikes the nickname Sephy and refuses to use it, inquires. Without answering, Bastion takes out a phone and sends the girl a message.

To: Persephone Soung
Her highness and I will be at your place in bit to pick you up.

Although Bastion walked here, Daphne would have preferred to take the bus, something much more easy to do on days where she doesn't have to carry her cello to school. She gives in, and the pair walk through Central Park on their way towards Persephone's home. Upon arrival, Bastion rings her doorbell, and the two wait. Already, Bastion is complaining about some person they walked past on the way here, and Daphne has elected to ignore him in favor of the book in front of her nose.

25th September | 7:00 am

Persephone clicked away from Gossip Goddess' most recent blog post. With a sigh, Sephy realised that this year was definitely going to be far from drama-free. Junior year had been so simple - Gossip Girl gone and nobody, like Gossip Goddess, trying to replace her. But then again, if Sephy was so determined to be noticed this year, a surefire way of doing that is to get onto Gossip Goddess' radar.

Standing up from her seat at the desk, Sephy turns to face her floor-length mirror, straightening out her outfit and combing flyaway strands of hair back into place with her fingers. Sephy really had to look her best, especially since it was her first day back at school.

"Sephy, breakfast!" One of the twins shouts up the stairs, for most people it was near impossible to tell them apart just from hearing their voices alone as they sounded so similar but nevertheless, after living with Marcella and Juliet all of her life, Persephone could easily tell that it was Marcella who had called for her.

"Be there in a sec Marcie," Sephy calls back, giving her appearance a final once-over before rushing out of her bedroom, into the hallway, heels clicking as she walks down the old oak staircase. Walking into the second-floor bathroom, Sephy has a quiet deliberation on whether to wear contacts or glasses before finally settling on her trusty glasses; contacts were too much hassle so early in the morning.

After adjusting her glasses to make sure they sat perfectly straight on her nose, Sephy makes her way down one more flight of stairs to the kitchen and living room, the Soung family currently resided in one of the largest penthouse apartments in all of Manhattan, while originally it was three separate one floor flats, Sephy's father, Samuel, worked his real estate magic and her mother, Winifred, worked her flair for interior design so that their home can now boast three floors.

Entering the kitchen, Sephy turns her attention towards her parents who were both sitting at the dining table, sipping their coffees.
"Good morning father," Sephy greets her father before turning to face Winifred "Mother."
She then takes a seat at the table, deciding upon sitting next to Marcella. A bowl of granola and yoghurt was then place in front of her, decorated prettily with all types of fruit. "Thank you," Sephy says graciously to their live-in Chef, Jaques. Sephy actually enjoys cooking and preparing meals of her own but her father wouldn't hear of it. 'We're high society people and therefore we should act as such' He would say to which Sephy, after being told this over and over again, finally agreed to.

Once she had finished her meal, Sephy excuses herself from the table politely, making sure not to disrupt the currently calm atmosphere.
Picking up her school bag from the table in the hall, Sephy suddenly remembers something and turns back to her to dining table, "Oh, Father don't forget I have a tennis tournament after school which you promised you'd go to" Sephy reminds him, excited that he'd finally be able to see her play after having to cancel so many times before.
"I completely forgot about that, sorry Persephone, I already have a meeting scheduled for then that I just can't cancel last minute - Next time though." Samuel says, barely looking up from his newspaper which he seemed to be incredibly interested in.
Nodding, Sephy bites her lip; feigning a smile, she says "Sure father, I understand," then facing her mother asks, "Mother, can you come?"
"Oh Darling you know I'd love to but I'm just far too busy for that, but like you father said, another time." Winifred replies gently a slight hint of guilt on her face, but it was nothing that would make Sephy feel any better.

It was then that Sephy's phone buzzed with an incoming text, realising it was Sebastian, she quickly read it and replied:
To: Bastion
From: Sephy
Alright, see you guys soon x

"Ok well I have to go, goodbye" Sephy calls out to her family, Bastion and Daphne might not have arrived yet but there was no way Sephy was going to hang around the apartment anymore, she didn't want her parents to see the disappointment her eyes held. Instead, she opted to wait for her friends on the stairwell of her apartment complex.

Upon hearing the buzz of the door, Sephy stands up, adjusts her glasses and opens the door, a small smile on her face.
"Hey," Sephy greeted both of them, not in the happiest of moods but trying her best to be as cheery as possible for her friends.

Jane's phone had went off, signaling that she had a text, so she didn't see Sienna and Vivienne coming until Sienna's arms were already wrapped around her. It was a pleasant surprise though, and with her phone still in one hand, she returned the tight squeeze. "I missed you too! I told Syd to invite you and Viv over this morning but she forgot. We didn't even have time to talk much though, but she said you would catch me up on everything," Jane said happily. Her comment about having "a lot of explaining to do" for going missing got a nervous giggle out of Jane but luckily, Vivienne also approached with her. While she also called Jane out on going "MIA", she quickly related it to what had happened to her own summer where she spent a week off the social radar in France with Carter Preston's family.

Jane always found it to be peculiar how Carter blantantly cheated on Viv and got another girl pregnant in the process, but they still managed to be very close friends. In fact, Viv was the godmother to the girl who was a product of the affair! It was so strange, especially when comparing it to the similar, but less intense, cheating situation between Sienna and Vincent. That didn't even result in a pregnancy but they were still at each other's throats most of the time. She guessed that the relationships were just different. Sienna and Vincent had known each other since they were kids. They grew up together, their families were very close and everyone around them expected them to stay together for longer than a year or two, if not forever. Viv and Carter had dated for a similar length of time but had only known each other since high school started, since Carter had lived somewhere else for most of his childhood.

"Bieber?" Jane asked, after Viv spoke about some Justin guy. After she said added Selena Gomez's name in there, she was sure it was the singer. "Ew Viv, he looks like a lesbian. You could do so much better!". For most people, the talk of one of their friends looking up with a mega-celebrity like Justin Bieber would have been huge news. It was definitely interesting and not exactly something that most girls at Constance could brag about, but most of them had connections in some way or another so talk like this was just the daily gossip.

Vivienne's father was a fashion photographer and worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, so it wasn't surprising that Vivienne ended up associating herself with many of them. She was frequently invited to exclusive parties and did know quite a few famous faces. Although her mother was a Broadway star and her father some big shot in the government, Sienna's music career had really allowed her to make her own name. Sydney's grandfather had created Saturday Night Live which meant that she had access to many celebrities as well. Jane's father had a net worth that probably exceeded that of all of their parents combined, and his hotels hosted tons of events for the rich and famous, but Jane usually just associated with her New York friends. She couldn't stand the way she looked in most pictures that she took of herself, so dealing with a hoard of paparazzi chasing her and taking unflattering photos to be seen by millions was a horrifying thought. So, she didn't mind being fairly unknown to the media world compared to her friends, and her father preferred it to be that way too, especially based on Jane's past behavior.

She turned back to Sienna. "Harry Styles, on the other hand, is one musician that I wouldn't mind hooking up with, and I know you have connections there," she said playfully. She remembered Sienna had opened for one of One Direction's concerts and had been bugging her every since to get him to show up to one of her parties.

Just as soon as Vincent excused himself from the group, Carter appeared and just as Vince had placed his hands over her and Sydney, Carter did it to Viv and Sydney. He offered her a wave which she reciprocated and gave Sienna a quick smirk after Carter kissed her. It was just a forehead peck, but Jane knew that Sienna had been crushing on him and while she was doing well at the moment to restrain herself from bringing it up in front of him, she couldn't help but to acknowledge it to Sia with a glance.

She then remembered that her phone went off a few minutes earlier, and saw that it was just Nicole, reading: "Make sure you eat a well balanced lunch today :)! xoxo". Jane rolled her eyes and quickly deleted the message. She knew that Nicole meant well and was trying to mend their relationship but Jane didn't need her advice and she quickly strayed away from that conversation and texted Bastion.

To: Bastion Arrendale
"HI I'M AT SCHOOL!!! WHERE ARE YOU?!"

It was the first message she had sent him since before leaving for the treatment center and by the texts that he had sent her while she was gone, she knew that he would be curious as to where she was. Her father insisted that he had went along with the lie that she was just spending time in California with some family, but she was unsure if Bastion of all people would believe that. They had grown up together and it was unlike Jane to disappear without a good explanation, at least to him. Despite worrying about having to explain herself, she was excited to see him. He was like a brother to her and she had really missed him after being gone for so long.

As Daphne, Bastion and herself exchange pleasantries, Sephy's phone goes off with a new text - This time from Jake, to which she replied:

To: Jake
From: Sephy
Kk we'll wait, hurry! :) x

Sliding her phone back into her bag, Persephone turns back to her two friends in front of her, "That was Jake, he said he'd walk with us," She explains before asking, "So, how were your summers?" Thinking back to her hectic vacation. Persephone had begun the Summer with an internship at Elle magazine, working in the fashion department, which proved much harder than Persephone had previously expected. She had hoped to simply be a currier and perhaps answer the phones a couple times but no, they thrust her right into an advice column with another intern - A very cute intern, named Caleb - who, after she had asked for his number at the end of their internship together, had regretfully told her he was gay, although, he would 'totally date her if he wasn't so into guys' - Which Sephy supposed must have been a compliment of sorts.

Then, later in her summer 'vacation' [although you could hardly call it that as it was neither relaxing nor stressless], she had attended her elder sibling, Cornelius' wedding. It was definitely a stunning affair, and his bride looked beautiful in a lace gown, and so Persephone couldn't help but get a little jealous, seeing her father praise Cornelius so highly in front of all the guests and talk about how lovely Mai-Anh, Cornelius' now wife, was.

And of course, there was the times where Sephy hung out with Jake which she thoroughly enjoyed, as even though they were 'friends' before, Persephone and Jake had never actually hung out like they did this summer, sometimes in a group [which would include Bastion & Daphne], and occasionally on their own. Something else happened as well, during these group meetings - aside from growing closer to Jake - Persephone found herself developing strange and foreign feelings for Bastion, which was weird, she used to only ever regard him as a friend; they were only brought together by Daphne. If she wasn't their mutual friend, perhaps they never would have spoken. And yet, Sephy couldn't help how she felt, and she wasn't sure whether that was ok with that or not.

Although there was always a bit of tension present between Sydney and Sienna, even if it was only Sydney who felt it, she was glad to be back with all of her girls again. They always had so much fun together and being with them reminded her of how excited she was for the party tonight. It was going to be the perfect start to a perfect senior year, or at least Sydney hoped it would be.

Sydney maintained a friendly smile when Jane brought up her "forgetting" to invite Sydney and Sienna over and she was glad that Sienna didn't make a big deal out of it. "I was working out the final details for tonight and it totally slipped my mind," she commented, glad that the conversation quickly switched gears after that. "Hey! I think Justin is kinda cute," Sydney objected when Jane ignorantly compared his look to that of a lesbian and Sienna, less offensively corrected her and said he just had a childish look. "I would have went for it too when I met him last summer, but he was still with Selena then too," she said to Vivienne with half a smile.

She met the singer at the end of the summer last year when he hosted SNL. Her grandfather and most of the cast wasn't too fond of him but Sydney had a short conversation with him and he didn't seem like the arrogant punk that the media made him out to be. Vivienne and Sienna obviously knew his personality better than she did though, but she at least found his appearance to be attractive.

Sydney maintained her smile as Carter appeared and wrapped his arms around her and Vivienne. Carter was one of the nicest guys that she knew. Not only was he respectful, intelligent and responsible, but he was also attractive. They had been friends since he started dating Vivienne and had continued to be that after they broke up, but once Sydney heard from Jane that Sienna was interested in him, she also developed a sort of affection for him too. She knew that it was probably more of a desire to compete with, or steal from Sienna, than a genuine romantic crush, but she wouldn't admit that to anyone. "Mine was good too," she responded to his question. "But I definitely missed you and Leah. That baby is probably so much bigger than she was last time I saw her!" Sydney had always admired Carter's dedication to his daughter. It was brave of him to take on such a role when caring for a child probably wasn't exactly the biggest dream of most teenage boys.

Before their conversation could go any further, another familiar face appeared. It was Sebastian Jardine, someone who Sydney didn't know particularly well personally, but knew much about reputation-wise. Jane had always warned her against getting too close to him, claiming that she had "friends who said he was bad news" but his bad boy persona was intriguing. He wasn't her usual "type" of guy, but she considered the idea that maybe a new school year would mean new experiences too.

Sydney raised an eyebrow when his first comment was to Sienna about past "fun" that they had. She had never heard of the encounter and didn't believe that whatever Sebastian was talking about was as innocent as the club opening that Sienna tried to explain it to be. She didn't call Sienna out on it but added it to the list of things that she would scope out later on. After he complimented Jane on her glasses, Sydney gave her a gentle elbow to the side and a confused look. Jane insisted that he was basically a villain but she really only saw the charming side of him.

She caught sight of Jane's iPhone screen and saw that she was texting Sebastian Arrendale. Sydney rolled her eyes and didn't hesitate to announce it to their group. "She's texting the other Sebastian. Sorry Seb, but it looks like she's more interested in your name twin than you," she said, her tone a bit spiteful towards the boy but typical for her. She liked to see how people would react to her bitchiness. Some were intimidated and backed down instantly but others, the ones who she would either click well with or clash immensely with, liked to play the game too. Seb was one of the ones who know how to counter her comments, but in an intriguing way. There were others, like Lacey Cartier-Porter, who did it in a way that just pissed her off.

When Persephone came down, greeting them both with a smile, the two had rather characteristic expressions. Well, characteristic given circumstances, seeing as most people might consider violent-hippie to be Bastion's basic setting. However, given the fact that it is Sephy he is greeting, his easy smile seems to become slightly brighter, and yet somehow sheepish, as he nonchalantly runs his fingers through his hair [as much as possible, given its texture]. "Morning Seph," he responds, not quite noticing the fact that her cheer seems to be a touched forced, although not entirely feigned.

Daphne, on the other hand, seems to notice it, but of course says nothing. She merely glances up from her book at first, then looks back down as though dismissing her entirely. Those who know her, however, will recognize this not as a snub, but simply the way she is. After finishing the page she is on, Daphne slides a ribbon into the book and closes it, putting it back into her bag [which has multiple books, as she tends to read many at once]. "Glad you're here --if I had to listen to Bastion complain about litterers for a second longer, I'd have been tempted to take a scissor to his precious hair," she comments, expression rather deadpan at first, though a smile visibly threatens itself at the dancing corners of her mouth. Bastion gives her a rather lethal look, but she is of course unfazed. She's known him since freshmen year, after all, and Daphne hardly scares easily. The girl might have a an innocent look about her, but she's lived in neighborhoods that plenty of her classmates only see through a TV screen as they watch the news about the latest shooting. It's quite lucky that her family managed to snag an apartment in a significantly better area, actually. She is about to say something more, likely something to mock Bastion further, when her phone vibrates against her hip. She pulls it out, revealing an old sliding phone that she's owned for five or so years now. Persephone relays the message before she can read it.

"I suppose we can wait for him," Daphne says with a somewhat bored expression, perhaps giving the impression that she dislikes Jake, though this is not the truth. If one has not gathered by now, it is quite easy to misunderstand her expressions for indifference --there are simply little signs to it, and deadpan is something she unintentionally does well. Daphne glances at Bastion to answer Persephone's inquiry about their summers first, simply because what she has to say is far from the interesting things that her wealthier friends have gotten to experience [how is she supposed to make a part time job at pizza place sound interesting?], but his attention has turned towards his phone at this point.

Normally, Bastion finds all-capsed text messages annoying, but having grown up with Jane, he's come to tolerate such things from her. So instead, he nearly finds it endearing, though he'll complain to her frequently about it. He glances over at Daphne, mentally telling her to speak first as he responds to Jane's text.

To: Jane
I'll be there in a bit --I'm with Daphne and Sephy.

The last part is more a warning than a mention, because he knows how much the two girls despise each other. It's one thing he prefers to stay out of, despite adoring both of them [even if both certainly have plenty of flaws].

"I found brilliant new book store in Chinatown, and worked at a pizza place in the same area. Probably pales quite a bit compared to you two's summers," she states this without bitterness, because she likes them both, but in a matter of fact way. It is not an opinion, but a certainty that they had more interesting summers.

"Besides hanging out with you two? Usual summer trip, and we stopped at the Spain house for a bit longer than usual. Dad's trying to build a park in South Korea, so we were actually there for a bit," just as Daphne spoke casually of a very typical summer, so does Bastion --weeks on a yacht, summer homes in Spain, these are all just normal for him, after all. "How'd the internship go?"

After departing from the Sienna and Esmee debacle, Jake headed in the direction of Persephone's place, having checked his phone the second he turned away from the popular girl. While Sienna had made the turn leading to one of the more contemporary and stylish apartment complexes - Jake could only dream of living in such luxury - he took the other turn, away from Constance. Luckily for him, walking had never been a big deal and his desire to gain recognition this year prompted him to partake in a little more exercise.

So, onward he walked in pursuit of his friends, hands shoved deep in his pockets now that the cool bite of the fall breeze seemed to want to swipe the warmth from his cheeks. Jake Desai had never been a fan of the colder weather. Sure, it gave him an excuse to wear his infamous amount of scarves more and he wasn't looked at like an idiot because he was drinking hot tea in the summer. But he never truly adjusted to the wintry hell which was New York. The snowy days were always the worst, always because those used to be the times when Vincent would get a little "playful," as the asshole would call it, in his tormenting and Jake winded up slipping on the somewhat icy pavements one too many times. Plus, it was cold, he was stuck wearing more leathers that he could actually appreciate, and he couldn't take in the world the way he wanted to.

The other times, when the sun's rays were warm enough to cause fire to lick up his veins and motivate his spirit to actually get up and do something, he would live. He and his camera would leave his mother to her own craft and he would explore. He found more cafes in New York (you'd be an idiot if you didn't know that there were more than just Starbucks in New York!), filmed and photographed many sites and tourists, and find himself in neighborhoods that he probably wouldn't typically find himself. Those were the days he preferred, especially this summer when he spent a few days with Persephone. Which was actually, though he would joke that they weren't, one of his summer's highlights.

Those musings led him to his friend's house where the trio stood at the door, talking probably about their individual summers and such. A genuine smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he approached them, a sort of contentment at being in the presence of people who actually weren't dicks, imbeciles, or just truly not the sort of company Jake would prefer. "Hey, guys. Sorry to hold you all up. You guys ready?"

Jane only looked up from her phone for a second before returning her gaze to the screen. In those few seconds, she had spotted Sebastian Jardine a few yards away and she hoped that maybe if she kept her head down, he wouldn't notice her. That wasn't the case though, because within a minute, he had joined their little circle and was talking to Sienna about something they had done in a previous summer.

She didn't think too deep into what Sebastian said and hoped that he would continue his conversation with Sienna about their memories at Utopia. Of course, he didn't, and as she lifted her gaze away from her phone and towards him, he gave her a wink and complimented her on her glasses. In response, she made a mental note not to wear the glasses out again and offered him a weak smile. It was the first time that she had seen Seb in months and she could only imagine that he would be eager to sell her more Adderall. The pills were an old guilty pleasure. While their intended use was to assist people with attention deficit disorders, one of their side effects was weight loss and after learning that, Jane was eager to start taking them. Her psychiatrist wouldn't prescribe them to her for the obvious reasons that she didn't have ADHD and was being treated for losing too much weight already, so she turned to the only person who she knew could get them for her: Sebastian Jardine.

She had never outright told him that she had an eating disorder and really, Adderall was a typical go-to prescription drug for students who wanted to ace a test or focus on studying for finals, but Jane knew that Seb wasn't stupid. She had asked him before buying the first time if he could confirm that they would help her lose weight and after that, it was hard to cover up her need for them with some phony excuse that she wanted to start doing well in school. So, she assumed that he probably knew but because of their agreement, he had kept her disorder and the fact that she even knew him well, a secret from everyone else.

After all of the work she had put into recovery over the summer, she knew she couldn't start taking the pills again. It would be the push to sent her back down the slippery slope of her eating disorder. Even though part of her wanted to get back down to her unhealthy goal weight, the healthy part of her knew that she was okay where she was. She was healthy and fairly happy, and was motivated to stay that way. However, she knew Seb. She knew that he wouldn't be pleased with her refusing to help fuel his business. He thrived off of her disorder and now that she wanted to abandon that, she was going to be abandoning their silent agreement too, and Jane knew that he wouldn't react well to that.

She was glad that her phone went off again, directing her attention away from Seb as she read Bastion's response. The mention of him being with Daphne made her mood go from bad to worse. Being away all summer meant that Jane didn't have too many good comebacks on hand, not like her normal ones were very good anyway. However, she did want to see Bastion so she wasn't going to let her ruin it.

Just as she hit send, she felt Sydney leaning over her shoulder and before Jane could nudge her away, she took a cheeky shot at Seb about how she was more interested in conversing with Bastion than him. It was true, simply because Bastion was more than a genuine friend and Seb was now an enemy, whether he knew it or not, but Jane didn't need Sydney to make a point out of that. She knew that it was just Sydney's personality. She wasn't trying to be disloyal or mean by throwing her under the bus, but just liked to cause little problems to see how people would react. Still, Jane wasn't in the mood for it, especially with everything else going on. She focused her eyes beyond the group, hoping that Bastion would arrive soon so she would have a reason to cheer up again.

"Whereabouts in South Korea?" Persephone asks excitedly, her Grandmother and Grandfather currently resided in Seoul and she had visited many times so she knew the area quite well. However they hadn't been able to visit this year because the only time Persephone was free clashed with the dates of her brother's wedding, and although she had begged her parents to let her go, Persephone's father had told her that it was necessary for her to be at the wedding - Which was evidently not the case as Persephone was ignored most of the night, especially by her father.

In fact, Persephone reckoned her father didn't want her going because his parents weren't exactly..Like him. They actually acknowledged and nurtured Persephone, when she did something wrong they didn't scold her but rather, they would encourage her to keep trying. Her father found it toxic for Persephone to be surrounded by such a caring environment because he thought that it encouraged her to believe that being second-best was an option, which to him, was not.

When Bastion asks about her Internship, Persephone shrugs "Tiring," She admits before jokingly adding, "Which for me, is saying something." All throughout the internship, Persephone had hardly been able to get a good nights sleep because she'd be up until around 2 am every night obsessing over perfecting her article. It was dumb but she couldn't help it, driven by the desire to impress her father, Persephone would work tirelessly to make sure it was up to his high standards.

Of course, when Persephone and her partner's article was actually published - which was amazing, published in Elle magazine at just sixteen - it was barely acknowledged by her father. Which hurt but then again, she should have expected it.

"Hey, guys. Sorry to hold you all up. You guys ready?"
Persephone turns around when she hears the familiar voice, a smile plastered on her face, her deep brown eyes lighting up, "Hey Jake," She greets him, using his preferred name; glancing at her watch, Persephone realises that unless they leave now, they're going to be late for school."Oh, we need to go!" Persephone says alarmed, she has never been late for school and doesn't ever intend to be. Especially not on the first day back - Besides, she wanted to catch up with Brody after barely seeing him over the summer.
In fact, she decided to text him to find out where he was.

To: Brody
From: Sephy
Hey,
we need to catch up! are you at school? x

"Just outside of Gwangju, I think it was? But we visited a few other cities as well, I might be wrong,"
having no intentions of inheriting the family business, Bastion is very much the typical wealthy child in his disinterest in his parents' work. It is more likely that one of his younger sisters, or perhaps both of them, will end up taking over the hotel and amusement park chains that the Arendales are famous for. Already, Delphine and Willow have that scheming sort of aspect that in childhood hints at quick minds and sharp tongues. The point being is that he rarely joins in on in depth discussion of the family business, and is lucky to have parents who are perfectly alright with this. He is in many ways similar to how they were at this age, and how they in many ways still are. His parents are somewhat unique in their ability to genuinely remember what it was like when they were younger, and respect Bastion going through the same stages. Of course, even back then his father had possessed a sort of charisma which Bastion doesn't believe himself to have. Leadership roles, outside of running the construction for theatre, aren't really his strong suit. Apparently he's too critical for them.

He is about to comment on Sephy's admission of her Summer being tiring, but is unintentionally interrupted by Jake upon the other student's arrival. While Daphne and Sephy greet him, and Sephy proceeds to panic about the fact that they may be running late, Bastion glances down at his phone and sees that he has another message from Jane --a predictable one, given what he had just told her. He can't help but roll his eyes, though he hypocritically hates it when people do this, at the little picture she has sent to express her displeasure. He very much doubts it will ever be possible for him to hang out with the both of them at once --it's like having two divorced parents who despise one another, as his time is split by them.

The conversation of glamorous internships and trips around the world are of course part of a world separate from Daphne's, but she has become accustomed to using Constance as a somewhat precarious rope bridge between the two spheres. It's actually quite interesting, hearing about the trips and such, as though she is reading some blog about the incredibly wealthy and famous youths who spend their weekends on yachts or at obscure french clubs. Such students are found in her English class, in the Orchestra, etc. It's almost fascinating to her, watching how the other side lives.

Still, friends who are more on her level, opportunity wise, are welcome. And when the gap is so wide, even someone who is upper middle class, as opposed to her station in the lower financial brackets, seems to be more in her world. She smiles, her smile that appears sarcastic even when sincere, in greeting towards Jake. "Luckily for you I'm not one for chopping off heads," she responds innocently. This is almost ironic, given how she is precisely the sort to do so, if provoked.

At Sephy's exclamation, her smile fades back into the typical neutral expression, though with a slight scrunch of her nose. They really should be leaving, then. "Well, onwards then," not going to wait for someone else to start the movement, Daphne begins walking towards the school.

Bastion tucks his phone away and follows. Luckily for the group, the school isn't too far away, perhaps a handful of blocks that equate a short walk. There, he sees a couple of people standing outside of the building, Jane among them. With a glance towards the others, and a sort of smile, he breaks away to go say hello to his childhood friend. Her being away for the summer is like having a sister disappear without word for months --of course he missed her, and is in fact sort of concerned. "Jane! Should I be offended, with you dropping off the map like that?" he asks, though now that he is speaking with her, Bastion is a bit irritated about it. He tends to be somewhat touchy about things, including ones like this.

Daphne had followed his path curiously, but at seeing that the beeline was towards Jane, made a face which clearly represented her feelings about the girl. Daphne has loathed her since freshmen year, and is unlikely to suddenly grow fond of the girl. There are others at this school she dislikes, but Jane is certainly near the top of the list, perhaps accompanied by Sebastian Jardine, who she sees a bit further away. Daphne turns to Persephone and Jake.

"Suddenly, I miss that horrid Pizza Parlor. Are we heading in?"

Before the others could reply to her inquiry, Jane spotted Bastion and his friends in the distance. A small smile appeared on her face, but it grew into a grin when he separated himself from Daphne and came towards her. Persephone Soung and Jake Desai were with him too, but they were of no interest to Jane. She played on the tennis team with Persephone during freshman year but after she quit, she had no use in maintaining any type of friendship with her. She had even less of a relationship with Jake Desai and only knew of him because Sydney would occasionally use him to do her homework. Jane doubted that she had ever even had a conversation with him.

Without excusing herself from her friends, she hurried towards Bastion and embraced him in a tight hug. "I missed you!" she squealed, brushing past his comment about her absence as she clutched him. "We need to catch up but I don't want to keep your friends and... that... waiting," she said after pulling away. Her eyes flickered towards Daphne before returning to meet Sebastian's gaze. Jane didn't care very much about his friends' feelings but she knew that if she continued talking to Bastion, he would want to know more about her "trip", so it seemed like a decent excuse to act like she was just being courteous towards the people he arrived with. Besides, simply based off of the way he had greeted her and how well they knew each other, Jane was sure that he would expect a more informative answer than that she just spent some time in California. He wasn't stupid and while Jane was sure that she could trust Bastion with her problem, it had become more complicated than just an eating disorder. The pills and the few times that she slept with Seb as payment for them were bound to come out too and with Gossip Goddess apparently infiltrating everyone's personal lives, it just seemed safer to not tell anyone.

"You're coming to the Kiss On The Lips party tonight, right?" She asked, hoping to casually change the subject. She pulled her ponytail over her shoulder and spun a strand of dark hair between her fingers, something that was a longtime nervous habit of hers. "We'll talk more then. My dad said your family spent the summer in China or something? I want to hear all about it later!" Mixing up China with Korea was something that wasn't unexpected of Jane, regardless of how ignorant it was. She was probably lucky that Daphne had remained with the rest of his friends because if she were there to hear the comment, it would have given her a chance to one-up Jane before the day even started.

It was out of character for Jane to be so nervous around him because they really were like siblings. She could hang out with him any day and feel completely comfortable, but after disappearing all summer, her secret weighed heavier on her shoulders. Although she tried to reassure herself that she was just being paranoid and that everyone would take her "trip to California" lie at face value, she knew that those who knew her best, like Bastion, Sia and Sydney, would have reason to suspect otherwise. No one, especially Jane, would spend two months in California without updating her Twitter account or posting a picture to Instagram. It wasn't a good story and while she had been somewhat confident that it would be enough to satisfy her friends' curiosity before today, she was beginning to freak out again.

Jane anxiously glanced back at her friends, secretly hoping that one of them would call her over and give her a reason to leave Bastion so suddenly. She felt like she was brushing Bastion off after disappearing without notice for long and not explaining herself now that they were reunited, but being around him and her close girlfriends was making her panicky.

Persephone nods, following behind Daphne, with Bastion and Jake, as she walks off towards the school. Luckily Sephy only lives a couple blocks from Constance or the group would most likely have been late. Glancing down at her phone, Persephone reads Brody's most recent message, a small smile on the edges of her lips. She missed Brody and wished that she had gotten to school earlier so they could have spent more time together catching up, alone. Before the rest of the school came in.

As soon as they reached the school gates, Persephone could see a few familiar faces that she had almost completely forgotten about over the holidays. There were was the 'popular' group, consisting of Sydney and all her little followers as well as Carter Preston, a somewhat friend of Persephone's, and a few other boys. Bastion was the first of their group to disband and walk over to where Jane Lynch stood with her friends, there friendship often confused Persephone but she found it best not to question it, incase she angered Bastion. However, Jane was probably the most materialistic and conceited person in the whole of both Saint Jude's and Constance, while Bastion was rather down-to-Earth and while his family were quite clearly more than well-off, he didn't think that made him better than others - Which Persephone loved. Well, Bastion was free to be friends with whomever he wishes, she supposed, so whatever.

It is then that Persephone remembers Brody, turning towards Daphne and Jake, "Oh it won't be that bad Daphne," Persephone laughs as Daphne brings up her awful Pizza Parlour experience, eagerly making her way into the school building along with her two friends.
"The mixer's being held in the gym." Persephone tells Daphne and Jake, as they head towards the large oak double doors leading into the huge gymnasium; being large enough to hold both Constance and Saint Jude's as well as the opposing teams when they came to play, large doesn't really begin to describe the sheer size of the school gymnasium.

Walking around the mixer, which had just begun starting up, Persephone soon spots one of her closest friends - if not the closest friend of hers - Brody Wade. Grinning, Persephone half-walks half-runs over to him, quickly embracing him in a tight hug.
"It's been so long!" Persephone cries, of course the two had hung out at the beginning of the summer, but with Persephone's internship and such, they hadn't been able to meet nearly as often as she would have liked.

Sienna and Vivienne were both also a good few inches taller than her, but Jane still had two or three inches on both of them, so Sydney wasn't as concerned with them wearing heels. "You guys are fine," she confirmed with a smile. It wasn't unexpected for Jane to complain further about the heel ban, especially since the other were going to be wearing them, but Sydney knew she was also using the opportunity to further her own shopping addict when she claimed that she would need to get a new dress too.

If Jane's parents weren't worth so much, or if she was even just at the same level of wealth as the rest of them were, her spending habits would probably be concerning. Sydney liked buying things just as much as the next girl but Jane seemed to take that to another level and as Sydney promised herself earlier, there was no way that she was getting stuck in one of those shopping sprees before her party. Before Sydney could respond to her though, Jane had separated from the group without warning, but as she glanced back in her direction, Sydney saw that she had gone to greet Sebastian Arendale. He was a childhood friend of Jane's and even though she usually invited him to all of her parties at Jane's request, she didn't have a real relationship with him. Sydney doubted that they had many similar interests and he wasn't her type appearance-wise, so she never had a real reason to engage him in deep conversation.

"I don't have enough time to watch her try on every dress in the store so I'm using my 'get out of jail' free card on this one," she said, running her fingers through her hair again. She knew that Jane would expect someone to go with her but Sydney needed to get ready for her party and get their on time. There wasn't a chance that she was going to be late for her own party, and she knew that Sienna and Vivienne shopped with Jane frequently too, so they would probably have more patience with her there anyway.

Sydney wasn't surprised when Sienna also urged Carter to come tonight, but she maintained her smile when he said that he planned on coming. Because of his situation with Leah, she wouldn't have been offended if he decided not to come, but he was probably the only person that would apply to. Her parties were pretty exclusive, even though she did invite a few randoms to this one, and depending on who it was, Sydney would take it personally if they decided not to attend.

People were beginning to file into the school building so she followed Carter's lead and headed towards the building. "Are you guys bringing anyone tonight?" she asked, eagerly looking over at Viv and Sienna as she lagged behind Carter a bit. Talking about new guys with Viv in front of Carter probably wasn't the best idea, even if they had been over for two years. Still, she was interested in hearing if the girls had found new guys, besides Bieber, over the summer who they planned on bringing tonight.

Because they hadn't mentioned anything up until now, she guessed that they were starting the year off as being single, which Sydney was pretty much doing as well. She was hooking up with Brody Wade and was bringing him as her date tonight but it was really just for the show. He was handsome, intelligent and powerful in their school community, and his family was well-established and respected in the business world. Although he was fairly bland and definitely not spontaneous, he looked good standing next to her and he benefited her image enough that the good weighed out the bad.

Brody let out a small, almost genuine, laugh in response to Vincent's comment. Because he was focused on texting Sephy, he hadn't noticed his classmate approaching so although his presence was surprising, his words were not. Vincent Mast was undoubtedly the biggest narcissist that Brody had ever met, which said a lot, considering that Vincent wasn't someone who one would expect to be so conceited compared to everyone else. His family wasn't excessively wealthy and unlike most of his friends and the girls he got with, Vincent was actually attending Saint Jude's on a scholarship. This was something that would normally put any student at the bottom of the social totem pole but Vincent's womanizing ways seemed to bring him respect from his fellow male classmates. While this wasn't shocking to Brody, he didn't understand why a countless number of girls allowed Vincent's appearance and reputation to overshadow his terribly flawed personality.

"It's nice to see you too, Vincent," was all that Brody responded with. He wanted to ask Vince why he was so sure that Sydney would want to hookup with him this year when she hadn't for the past three years, but he wasn't going to feed into Vincent's negativity. It was unnecessary, childish and a waste of energy, and after his response, Vincent continued into the gym. Brody assumed that he would probably spend the next few minutes boasting to Colin about how clever his stupid remark was. Like most people, Brody found Colin to be amusing, but he didn't always appreciate the disturbances that he liked to cause in class. Similarly to Vincent, Colin was also a scholarship student and although Brody would never say it out loud, he sometimes felt like it was easier for Colin to joke around and waste time during class because he wasn't actually paying to attend the school. Although Brody wasn't extremely close to either of them, he sometimes actually preferred Vincent to Colin. At least Vincent had the audacity to speak his mind, despite how arrogant his thoughts may be, while Brody felt like Colin was sometimes passive to what others wanted him to do.

When his phone buzzed again, he expected it to be Sephy but was equally pleased to see that this text was from Vivienne. Although she and Sydney were good friends, he hadn't seen her at all over the summer when he hung out with Sydney. He had heard about her numerous vacations over social media and text, and it wasn't surprising. Vivienne was a jetsetter. She was well connected and especially on school breaks, it wasn't unusual for her to travel around the world to attend exclusive parties and events. Brody really enjoyed her. She was fun but not too crazy, worldly and confident, and probably one of the hottest girls at Constance. Even though he and Sydney weren't dating or really even exclusive, he still felt like it wasn't right being anything more than friends with Vivienne while he was hooking up with her though.

To: Vivienne Hudson
I got here early so I'm already in the gym lol. Come find me ;).

Just as soon as he sent the text, Sephy appeared. She didn't waste a moment before embracing him in a hug, which Brody reciprocated. "Yeah, it really has been. I haven't seen you since what... July?" he asked, surprised that it really had been that long. The few other times that he had flown into New York from California, where he spent most of the summer, Sephy either already had plans involving her internship or a family affair, or Brody was scheduled to go something with Sydney. He texted Persephone often but it was still unusual for him to realize that it had been a while since he had actually seen and spoken to her in person. "How did your internship go? I'm pretty sure that we have twenty copies of your article floating around our apartment," he added with a laugh. His mother had always taken a liking to Sephy, partly because she was one of her close friends' children and Brody's close friend, but also because she thought she was a good influence for his younger sister, Ella.

After she responded, Brody looked past her, surprised that Bastion, Daphne and Jake hadn't shown up with her. Although Brody was friends with many people from various social groups, he was closest with those four. "Where's everyone else? Don't tell me that Daphne's already in the library," he said with a grin, focusing back on Persephone. He was glad that the school year was starting. It would bring regularity and routine, and although he was sure that senior year was destined to be more drama-filled than the last three, it seemed to be beginning without a flaw.

Luckily for Jane, Bastion isn't a fool, and can pick up on the hints that she doesn't really want to talk to him right now. He gives her a look that is half confused and half a mix of hurt and irritated. Of course, he can't change the way Jane is, and puts up with most things for the sake of their long-lasting friendship. So he shrugs, though his smile has waned to insignificance, "Yeah, I'll probably go. Wouldn't want the queen bee to be insulted by someone further down the ladder rejecting her invitation. I'll see you then --bye." He's rather certain that he and Jane won't have a chance to talk at the party, as she'll probably be off drinking or something with that clique she runs with, while he'll be in some other part of the party. Sydney regularly invites him to the party, something he is certain is for Jane's benefit, and while he often goes for the drinks and the inevitable blunt that will be passed around, it's less his scene. He does like to dance, though, when the party allows for it. He walks away, freeing her up to go back to Sydney and Sienna and the rest of her group. Irritation is still written on his face, but he is not one for holding on to things, instead a quick temper and a quick departure, so it fades quickly.

Back with Jake and Sephy, Daphne's expression softens. She raises an eyebrow, expression riddled with skepticism at Persephone's insistence that it won't be that bad. By all means, Daphne is an academic person. She just isn't much of a school person --take away the people and teachers who annoy her and she'd be content to spend her time here. Of course, the girl is far from alone in these sentiments, in fact likely part of the large majority of high school students. And teachers as well, probably. These thoughts send her mind back to the invite she had received to attend Sydney's Kiss on the Lips party tonight. She had been somewhat surprised upon the message being passed along, not because she and Sydney have any strong animosity but because Daphne is the last person to be invited to these things. Daphne has decided that it is perhaps some setup for Jane to mess with her, and thus start their feud anew for the school year. She wouldn't put it past her.

As soon as she, Jake, and Persephone enter into the mixer, the third of the group dashes away. The figure which she reaches, Daphne observes, is of course Brody. The young woman is less than surprised, if only because she knows the two are rather close. For a while, she had believed them to be dating, but Persephone had assured her this wasn't the case when she casually referred to them as a couple in conversation. Something about the way Persephone said it left her with doubts, however. If she had been more in tune with gossip, Daphne might have known that Brody had been hooking up with Sydney. But the only Grape Vine she's connected to is a used book store downtown. "And there goes Viola to her Duke. I don't suppose you'll be giving me the slip for some Rosaline, then?" Daphne remarks breezily, looking over towards Jake.

Bastion enters the mixer at this point, and finds it rather easy to spot Daphne and Jake, as they are still near the front of the group. He walks over to them, but his eyes land upon Persephone chatting with Prez a few yards away. He frowns very slightly as he walks up to Jake and Daphne.

Sienna positively beamed when Carter actually promised her a dance and with a rather triumphant dance in her head.

"Can't wait," she told him and returned her attention to the group just as Jane managed to separate herself. She was with another group, one that included the guy from earlier. She tilted her head curiously, he really should have been familiar, especially if he hung out with Sebastian Arendale. Not that she hung out with Sebastian often or anything, but she didn't recall seeing this guy much before. Shrugging, she returned her gaze to the others.

Jake was too busy checking his phone. His Dad had started sending him more texts this summer, oftentimes wanting to hang out more than they typically did. He raised an eyebrow at Bastion's apparent friendship with Jane, who really wasn't that bad but it always surprised him how close the two were. Connections or no, the relationship was puzzling because they seemed like two very different people. People like Jane didn't hang out with people like them and well, Bastion...just didn't seem like her type. Not that Jake really knew what her type was or even cared.

He chuckled at Daphne's expression and followed Persephone and Daphne inside the school, ready to get the day over with. He hated being a bore, really, but he wasn't a fan of these unnecessary school mixers. All they did was tell them rules, classes, and all this other information that could have been sent via email. Then again, he had been excited to see his friends, so there's that. Just as they came inside, Sephy was gone and he smirked at her excitement at seeing Brody. It was obvious that the relationship was definitely closer than what Sephy originally transcribed, though Jake would have never been known as someone who delved too deep into unwanted territory. In fact, all he cared about was that Brody did right by Persephone. He grinned subtly at Daphne.

"I wouldn't dream of it, Daphne," he replied just as his phone buzzed in his pocket. Curiously, Jake pulled it out and smirked. It was a text from Vivienne, which surprised him because he thought he saw her outside along with Sydney and Sienna. Thinking back, Jake remembered having the biggest crush on Vivienne, not that he ever told her. It had never been in his character to make a move like that, especially moving in on a girl like her. Vivienne was one of the hottest girls in school and actually nice to him, which surprised him when they first met. It was more surprising when Sydney actually wasn't as bitchy, but still. He hadn't had feelings for Sydney; it had always been Vivienne. However, the crush wasn't as huge as it was before, not as all-consuming and nerve-wracking. Now, he was better with having a conversation with her. He sent a quick text.

To: Vivienne
Yeah, w/ friends. U?

Jake glanced at Bastion just as he came over and his brow furrowed curiously. Sebastian didn't have this face typically and he was just happy hugging his friend Jane. So, what the hell happened in two seconds?

"Hey, are you alright?"

Sienna considered Sydney's inquiry about her guest for the night. Surprisingly enough, she had thought of inviting the guy she sung to at the iHeart radio concert; he was the ultimate cutie patootie. Even her mom approved. At the same time, she didn't really feel like bringing a date. Truthfully, the idea of arriving single appealed more than being seen with a guy. Especially after the questions about who some of her songs were dedicated to, which was a very easy question if she actually chose to answer it. She shrugged at Sydney, smiling at a few classmates she remembered from last year. She peeked at Sebastian's girlfriend, still trying to figure out what the girl saw in him in any way, shape, or form.

"Didn't think I was bringing anyone," she replied honestly. "I might be able to bring Lyric, just because my publicist thought it would be good to keep up images since people know that we're good friends and I've worked with his band. Hmm, speaking of..." Sienna whipped her cell phone out, looking for a hint that Lyric was even here yet. She had told him she didn't need a ride, but his drive shouldn't have been that long. She was aware that he wasn't exactly the biggest fan of her friends; he found them all fake, which would have been true if Sienna didn't know them. Sure, she didn't always favor Sydney, but the girl was a lot better than some of these wanna-be mean girls.

To: Lyric
Hey! In school. Where r u? I didn't get a hug yet D:

Jane felt relieved yet guilty when Bastion agreed that they could finish their conversation later that night. She wasn't sure that she would even get a chance to speak to him later on but if she did happen to come across him, she hoped that with a few drinks in her system she wouldn't be so uptight. Whether the alcohol would loosen her up enough where she would say too much was yet to be determined but at this point, Jane was ready to drink herself to a point where whatever she did say wasn't more than slurred, incomprehensible words.

Offering only a half way, she was quick to turn back in the direction she came from, only to find that her friends were already on their way inside of the building. She increased her pace, managing to catch up with them before they stepped into the gymnasium. She caught Sydney's question on whether any of them would be bringing a date tonight. "I'm single and so ready to mingle tonight," she added with a small smile. Jane was more of a drunken-mistake hookup kind of girl than one who could maintain a serious relationship with someone. When sober, she was very picky with the guys she associated with, so even if she had hooked up with a semi-decent guy the night before, he rarely met her standards the next morning. Besides that, the past few years had been chaotic enough with her own problems for her to want to add a romantic relationship into the mix.

Now that she was more emotionally stable, getting a boyfriend was definitely on her senior to-do list, but even among the hoards of wealthy and attractive boys at Saint Jude's, none of them really captured her attention. The most "qualified" guys like Carter Preston and Brody Wade had their flaws. Carter already had a kid and was Viv's ex, not to mention that he was on Sienna and Sydney's radar. Brody didn't like Jane and she didn't like him in return. He was a bore and although he was attractive, Jane was sure that if anyone was going to bring 'bad vibes' to the party tonight, it would be him. However, she kept quiet for now. There was no benefits in complaining about Sydney, in front of her anyway. Besides the obvious guys, there was Vincent who was a possibility for a hookup, although Jane would never admit it in front of her friends. He wasn't boyfriend material though, as perfectly portrayed through his betrayal towards Sienna.

When Sienna brought up possibly bringing Lyric, Jane couldn't help but to giggle. She really didn't know Lyric outside of his connection with Sienna, but his name always reminded her of the comments that Sydney would make about his mouth. He was definitely attractive, Jane would give him that much, but his lips reminded her of those that women in New York would die for. Despite the unnecessary comments that Syd would make about them, Jane guessed that they probably made him a pretty decent make out partner. "His lips look better than Kelley Yearly's, and I'm pretty sure she gets lip injections like, every other day," Jane exaggerated, referencing a fellow classmate. "Is he a good kisser?" she then said to Sienna, convinced that even though she had never admitted to hooking up with him, that she must have.

Although most of the students had now entered the gymnasium, it was large enough that it didn't appear to be packed. Friend groups could easily be picked out as they were scattered throughout the room and Jane was able to spot Bastion back with Jake and Daphne. Even if Daphne wasn't enough of a deterrent, Jane quickly moved her gaze away from them, not wanting to make eye contact with Bastion after her less than friendly encounter with him moments before. She also spotted Brody, who had just embraced Persephone Soung. With a raised eyebrow and small smile, she couldn't help but to glance over at Sydney to see what her reaction would be. From what Sydney had told her, she and Brody weren't exclusive or even dating, but she doubted that her friend would appreciate him hugging Sephy before even greeting her. As petty as it was, that was Sydney. The smallest things could set her off and getting on her bad side wasn't wise. That was evident with the next girl who entered her sight: Lacey Porter. Jane didn't like her, but Sydney's hatred towards her far exceeded Jane's. "That girl is such a loser," Jane said, eyeing Lacey with disgust as she strutted past them. It was bizarre for Jane to expect her to acknowledge them in the slightest, especially because of how many viscous rumors Sydney had started about her with no real motive, but she still disliked the idea of anyone just ignoring them.

Lyric pulled into the girls school with a smile. He pulled up to the parking lot and parked. His blond hair fell into his eyes as he walked out of the car.

To: Sia
Srry!!! I'm here now, I was picking out and outfit XD. Anyway are you in the gym?

The boy walked into the school as he headed towards the gymnasium. He spotted a few cute guys, but ignored the feeling he got. His dark blue eyes looked towards the door as he entered. He walked into it seeing a large crowd. His face lit up in a smirk when he felt the crowd's energy around him.

His dark blue eyes turned as he noticed a few people. They swarmed to him, mostly girls. "OMG We love you, can we take a picture? I mean you're really cute!!!" a girl spoke from the group in front of him. Lyric's face turned into an awkward face. "Uh, I don't do autographs...or photos." he spoke before walking away.

To: Sia
So I'm here.....where are you exactly?

Daphne raises an eyebrow skeptically at Jake's claim that he wouldn't dream of it, though a smile once more pulls at the corners of her mouth slightly. If school were comprised only of people like Jake, Persephone, and Bastion, she'd be much more happy to start the year back up again. It occurs to some part of her that she should go and greet the librarian some time today, as she has done for the past three years. Even as a freshman, she made a point to immediately get into the good graces of the keeper of the school's books. In fact, she considers it rather daft of people not to think about getting to know the librarian. She's much like the students who become friendly with cafeteria workers in the hopes of getting extra portions of food in this way, although her originally calculating intentions have given way to genuine interest in Ms. Jensen, the librarian. After all, she has read a good deal of books, and being well-read is one thing that Daphne very much likes in a person. People who do not read for pleasure are rarely worth knowing, in the bookish young woman's opinion. Exceptions exist, of course. Bastion, for example, lacks her passion for books, but skates by on his personality. "Well, that certainly is a relief. I was beginning to worry I was kept on hand to be the necessary dull character," she responds lightly.

As Jake pulls out his phone and checks it, Daphne sincerely doubts very slightly his claim. Based on his expression, it is probably a girl he likes. Having never been much for romance, the girl cannot sympathize with crushes and the like [she has had intellectual attraction before more than anything]. However, she's seen enough to wonder if Jake will now be spirited away by this text, leaving her to stand where she is. If so, she can always go to find the librarian --it would hardly be the worst thing in the world. In fact, she begins to doubt that she wants him to stay, with this train of thought.

Even if he were to leave, however, it appears that Daphne would still have company. Bastion is walking up to them, after all, with a less than pleasant mood apparent on his features. In the time she has known Bastion, Daphne has learned that he is an awful liar, and can be read as easily as a book, even by the standards of those with elementary reading levels. She wonders if it was something to do with his conversation with Jane. A spiteful part of her hopes so, simply because she dislikes Jane and, in an incredibly petty streak, likes the idea of Bastion being irritated with her.

Jake clearly notices as well, asking after Bastion. But Bastion, despite being an infamous ranter, declines to explain his foul expression. He doesn't want to discuss irritation with Jane in front of Daphne, because that might suggest taking sides. He certainly isn't going to mention that he's a bit jealous of Brody at the moment.

So he merely shrugs. "Huh? I'm fine --just a bit tired. I was up really late last night," It isn't a lie, at least. He had stayed up watching movies with Delphine and Willow, because it had been their last non-school night, and he's never been very good at saying no to the twins. One set of puppy dog eyes from them is bad enough, but they double the power, forces to be reckoned with.

He looks over at Daphne, who in fact has just been looking at Sephy as the girl bounces over to John. Daphne has sometimes felt she and Persephone are similar in many ways, but she is reminded that their differences are perhaps just as numerous. The girl bounces cheerfully from friend to friend, impressive in her apparent energy. Daphne finds it interesting to watch, though she can hardly relate to it. "Surprised you haven't already made a beeline to the library, princess," Bastion comments, before looking back at Jake.

"Forgot to ask, how was your summer?"

Daphne considers Bastion's comment. Maybe she could just slip away now; the hallways are probably empty.

Sienna didn't even blink when Jane pulled her off to the side. She was aware that Jane had some big issue with the very smart girl in their class. Jane's face had her following without question, her phone buzzing at another text from Lyric. When Jane began to express her turmoil at Daphne's invitation, Sienna could only shrug.

"Honey, I wonder why Sydney does half of the crap she does," she griped with arms folded over her chest as she observed the mean girl's interaction with Brody.

Sienna still couldn't grasp the concept of those two together. Like, what attracted Brody to Sydney - of all the girls in the school? Sydney was gorgeous, don't get wrong, Sienna knew that much. However, not every aspect of her was great and Brody was apparently close with two other females at least, so what the hell was going on? On a deeper level, some part of her kept that information to herself; if Sydney ever came for her, she had something for the blonde. But then she blinked back into reality when Jane's face did not calm down. She rubbed Jane's arms comfortingly, putting a big smile.

"Sweetie, it's not like any of us really talk to her, right? So, as far as I'm concerned, she's not important tonight," she told her friend, maintaining eye contact so that, hopefully, Jane wouldn't glare daggers in whatever direction Daphne was in. The last thing she needed was happy-go-lucky Jane ready to destroy someone on the first day back. "Tonight, we're going to have fun, we're going to look hella fine, and Daphne Peterson will be the last thing on your mind." Just as she was about to say more or attempt to get Vivienne to come over and offer some words, she heard a very familiar name shout out her name. She beamed over Jane's shoulder. "LYRIC!!" She squealed, grinning at his fangirls. Back to Jane, she smiled again, "I promise I will get Gus to bring us a bottle of champagne while we're getting ready for the party tonight to get you in the mood, m'kay? Be right back." She hugged Jane tightly and hurried over to Lyric and John.

"Hey, loves!" She exclaimed and would have probably jumped on Lyric had he not given her this very half-hearted hug before jetting off. Sienna's eyes followed her fellow musician in confusion and glanced back at John inquisitively. Her phone buzzed again and she lowered her gaze to read the last text. Frowning slightly, she offered John a small hug and a small smile. "Sorry, love, but...umm...gotta see what this is, apparently." Lips quirked to the left, Sienna made her way over to Lyric, wiggling her fingers sweetly at a few sophomores and juniors. When she got to her friend, she sat beside him and draped her long hair over her shoulder, raising an eyebrow at him. "So, who is he?"

Image

Jake grinned wryly at Daphne's response, shoving his phone away. He could talk to Vivienne at some other time, maybe later at the party. He meant it when he said he would not abandon his friend so easily. Sure, he had the tiniest bit of a crush on Vivienne back in the day and yes, they were friends, but her people were not his people. His relationship with Sydney was neutrally gratifying at best, Jane and Sienna probably didn't know he existed, and well, their world was just so different than his. He was comfortable here, in this existence that didn't require him to talk a certain way. Instead, he existed and lived the way he wanted. And yes, some part of him wanted to reach over in their little dimension, but he wasn't at the point where he could dream of abandoning the ones who had been there all along.

"I'd hardly say you were a dull character, Daphne," he told her honestly. "Amidst the very singular-minded rich kids, your complexity is a breath of fresh air." He smiled at her warmly and then cut his eyes at Bastion when he finally made his way back to the others. After inquiring about Sebastian's reasoning behind the very displeased expression, Jake glanced about the room, wondering which of the teachers were new and which weren't. They were offering a new film class and he has been excited about who would be the professor for that.

Thinking so deeply about the matter, Jake almost missed Sebastian's question about his summer. Just as he turned to look his friend in the eyes, his gaze caught the tail end of Lyric Overland's entrance and his eyes probably lingered longer than they needed to. Jake didn't exactly keep it a secret that he was bisexual; he saw no need. If he were to lie about one small factor of his identity, then he might as well lie about everything else. Besides, Lyric was a refreshing sight - all light skin, blonde hair, and eyes deep and blue. For a second, Jake thought their eyes met, but then Lyric went into the opposite direction. Shaking his head subtly, Jake returned his gaze back to his friend and shrugged.

"I didn't do anything exceptionally great," he admitted. "Got a few of the drama kids to help me with a short film I'm working on and started filming a few weeks ago. Visited some art galleries and took a few more film classes." Jake didn't find that an exceptional summer. After all, the highlight was hanging out with a few friends in the mean time. Then again, when had his life ever been even remotely exceptional?

"You're right... you're right," Jane said as Sienna reassured her that Daphne's attendance wouldn't be important. At least she hoped that she was right, and did manage to crack a smile when Sienna mentioned the champagne. "Oh my God, yes. Definitely bring champagne," she said with an eager nod of her head. Luckily, as Sienna excused herself to go talk to John and Lyric, Sydney reappeared and told her to come talk to a teacher with her.

After what she had just overheard, Sydney wasn't at the top of the list of people she wanted to talk to, but it was better than standing alone. As she walked with her, she couldn't help but to continue to think about what Brody had said, and then what Sienna said. It was true that Sydney did a lot of unexpected things but most of them had hidden motives, and Jane worried that there was one here too.

It's not like Sydney would actually want to be friends with her. She's rude and weird and probably shops at like... Walmart, or something random like that. They both do have blonde hair though, and I already know that she doesn't like Sienna for no real reason. Oh my God, she's definitely trying to replace us and form an all-blonde squad. Viv is blonde and Sydney doesn't have a real problem with her, and that's probably why she flirts with Carter all of the time too!

It seemed like a plausible situation to Jane, but as they passed by Daphne, who happened to be standing with Bastion and Jake Desai, a new and even more extreme scenario entered her thoughts.

Oh my God, how am I so stupid? It was obviously Bastion who asked Sydney to invite her. I mean, just look at him! He wasn't that great of friends with her before I left, was he? Not 'walk to school with her' friends. He definitely likes her better than me. Really Bastion? I've known you forever and now you're going to pick that troll over me? So typical.

She was working herself up fairly quickly, even though she knew that Bastion and Daphne had been friends for most of their high school careers too. There was no real reason for her to think that he would want Daphne there when he knew good and well that the girls disliked each other, but it seemed like a more concrete theory than Sydney being anti-brunettes.

Jane wanted to bring it up to Sydney and just see how her friend would respond, but at the same time, she wanted to believe with Sienna had said about Daphne coming not being relevant at all. It really wasn't. While they did have a strong rivalry, it wasn't like Daphne would do anything extreme at a party. She had the upper hand in the classroom and although she was more clever than Jane outside of school too, Jane assured herself that nothing would happen between the two. She was just being paranoid and allowing her anxiety to get her riled up over nothing, so she put on a smile and followed Sydney towards their teacher.

"Why, what happened?" John asks.
Persephone rolls her eyes, "Oh you know - Just Sydney Vale being, well, Sydney Vale." She responds with a shrug before shaking her head, "But whatever, I should probably go and introduce myself to some of my teachers now." Persephone says, pulling John into one last hug before she walks off to where her Biology teacher, Ms. Thomas, stood. Throwing a smile over to Bastion who had just entered the hall after leaving her, Daphne and Jake to speak to Jane.

The day progressed at an average pace, everyone reuniting with old friends and greeting their new teachers. Whilst nothing of particular interest occurred, it was an enjoyable day. No cat fights, scandals or drama of any kind for once - Well, except for Persephone's little run-in with the Queen Bee, but you could hardly call that proper drama.

As the day drew to an end and everyone began filtering out of Constance Billard girl's school, there was only one thing on every student's mind - The Kiss On The Lips party. There were plans for pre-parties, last minute shopping trips and fake ID's that needed printing to buy copious amounts of alcohol for Sydney Vale's 'party of the year' or whatever they were calling it now.

Persephone couldn't help but look on with dismay as everyone, except her, seemed to be excited for the party. Too bad Persephone Soung was far too invisible and uncool to be invited. That is, of course, until one of Sydney's little cronies waltz's up to her, a letter in hand which Sephy instantly recognises as an invite, due to seeing them being shown off once too many times on instagram, snapchat and just about every other social media site you can think off.

"Here," The Sophomore girl says - Sydney, of course, had to have followers in every grade and wouldn't be seen dead giving Sephy an invite in person - Handing her the letter, frowning, Sephy doesn't quite understand. They weren't exactly on friendly terms earlier and now she was receiving an invite? Sydney's world sure was confusing.

Taking the invitation, Sephy opens the letter and skims it, the party was at 7:30 pm. That gave Sephy the best part of four hours to put together the perfect outfit. And it had to be perfect. Girls at Constance didn't take style lightly - They dressed to impress and Sephy didn't want to be the only one seen in last months wardrobe.

Calling her driver, Persephone practically screamed down the phone "I need to get to Madison Avenue now, please hurry." Host to all kinds of famous designers, Madison Avenue would be the perfect place for Persephone to get a dress.

[ 7:00 pm | Night of the party ]

After hours of shopping, Persephone was pleased yet exhausted. She wanted nothing more than to curl up and sleep but there was a party that she needed to not only attend, Persephone needed to impress. When else was she going to be able to mingle with the hottest and most exclusive people, not only in her school, but from other schools too. Sydney had invited all the other Queen Bee's from the most prestigious neighbouring schools.

Rifling through her latest purchases - which were admittedly, not all for the party - Persephone picked out her outfit. The outfit.
Walking towards her bathroom, a happy spring in her step, Sephy turns on her shower and steps under the warm water. She had to rush a little, seeing as she had only an hour to go until the party but Persephone had to smell good too, and so she decides to use her favourite lavender shower gel and matching shampoo.

Stepping out of the shower, Persephone grabs a towel and wraps it around herself, looking at her reflection in the mirror.
Why can't I look like Sienna or Jane? Sephy thinks sadly, while she was undoubtably a pretty girl, she couldn't help comparing herself to people she thought of as prettier than her. Sighing Persephone ignores her thoughts, swiftly drying and dressing herself, she then blow-drys her hair before using a pretty red lipstick. She didn't usually wear an awful lot of make-up but Persephone was really trying to look her best tonight.

Suddenly wondering about how she's going to get to the party, Sephy grabs her phone from the side of her sink; sending a text to her friends:

To: Bastion, Brody, Daphne, Jake, John
From: Sephy
Can I come with someone to Sydney's party?
I don't want to arrive on my own (got a weird last minute invite & not sure whether it's a joke) x

Smiling contently, Persephone enters her bedroom and takes a seat at her desk, waiting for a response from someone. While she waited, Sephy pondered her strange invitation. Maybe it was all a joke? Maybe Sydney just sent her the invite so she could mess with her at the party. Sephy wouldn't put it past her. Sydney's done worse. Persephone's smile falls as she wonders whether going tonight is a mistake.

After hours of helping out at his mother's office, doing some last minute script revisions, and finally convincing his mother to allow him to use her car, Jacob was finally getting ready for the party. It still surprised him that Sydney even gave him an invititation. Sure, they helped one another in a way; he helped her with work and sometimes did the assignment for her, and she would randomly help him in his quest for popularity. But still, this was a party typically someone like him would never get invited to. So, it was no surprise that there was a swarm of butterflies throwing a bitch fit in his stomach and a sort of giddiness that had him smiling.

Jake took a quick shower and washed his hair. Letting it air-dry, he maneuvered inside their apartment to the kitchen and grabbed his dish from the brown bag. His mom was in her little art studio and had not felt like cooking, so she ordered take-out. Which was pretty much cool with Jake since he had randomly developed a strong appreciation for shrimp lo mein. Digging in with a pair of chopsticks, Jake checked his phone occasionally to make sure that he was still on schedule when he got a text from Persephone. It was in a group message. As he read, he stopped chewing and stared at his phone, puzzled. He was with Sephy on this one; something was fishy. Not that he knew a thing of Persephone's interaction with Sydney earlier, but he also knew how Sydney could be occasionally, at least from what others have told him. But was the girl who was helping him out be the same girl that would try to hurt one of his friends?

No, he didn't want to believe that.

To: Sephy, Sebastian, Daphne, John
Sure thing, Seph. I'm driving tonight. Anyone need a ride?

Even still, as he finished eating and hurried to get dressed, he didn't want to chance anything. If anything happened, he didn't want to feel like he simply abandoned Persephone at any point.

Sienna tapped her foot impatiently. She was perhaps a tad bit excited - no, she was really excited. As far as she was concerned, they were all seniors and this was their last Kiss On The Lips party. It had to be great - it needed to be. As she sat waiting for Vivienne to come downstairs, she browsed through her phone, smirking at pictures that fans re-tweeted of her, messages from a few celebrity friends, and Gossip Goddess and - wait, what?

Sienna paused, licking her lower lip anxiously as she read the latest post from the Gossip Goddess column. She heard her own breath hitch slightly and her lips become suddenly dry. Secrets? Seriously? Who the hell did this bitch think she was? Intimidating people and insinuating that she knew anything about any of them. It was preposterous! In the back of her mind, she noted that this must have been how Blair Waldorf - oops, correction, Blair Bass - and Serena Humphrey must have felt all those years ago when they were being haunted by an elusive gossiper who knew all of their dirty little secrets. But still...

She was more anxious now and half tempted to empty one of the bottles of champagne on her own. She glanced at Vivienne's building before making a quick decision. She needed a drink. She needed to be around people, not by herself. She hated being by herself. She was left to her own thoughts and her thoughts weren't always the best. They were debilitating and at times, depressing. That was the last thing she needed on a fun night. So, she demanded that Gus hurry to Sydney's apartment and made him promise to return and pick up Vivienne.

To: Viv
Lovely, going ahead 2 Syd's b4 these bottles get warm. Gus is coming 4 u. Srry

It took a good five minutes, but Sienna was soon seeing Gus off with two champagne bottles in her hand and her clutch tucked underneath one of her arms. She walked to the building and smiled at the doorman. Pressing the buzzer for access to Sydney's apartment, Sienna painted on a big smile, practically buzzing with energy.

Anyone who takes a peek into Daphne's room will quickly have two things made apparent to them. One, she is a girl who loves books, for shelves, both purchased and makeshift, line her walls. They are filled with books she has purchased or been given, that she has already read or plans to read. The young woman tends to develop stacks of books to be read, only to get distracted by finding yet another book that intrigues her, or rereading an old favorite. Thus, her books range from beaten up and faded to crisp, never opened. Most of the crisp ones are actually gifts, as she rarely purchases books new. The other thing made apparent is her decision to not go out tonight. The girl is lying on her bed wearing soft pajama pants, decorated with Nightwing's symbol, and a baggy T-shirt from some Orchestra event or another. Hardly the outfit for an evening among some of New York's most influential youth, after all.

Having decided that the party was probably a trap of some sorts, and a waste of her time even if innocent, the girl made the easy decision to stay home. Thus, she is on her stomach atop her bed, reading. That is, until her phone goes off, alerting her to a message. It is the text that Persephone had sent out. Daphne realizes that it is a group message, though her phone is old and receives them as separate messages from each member of the group. A pain, but one easily adjusted to. It isn't surprising that Persephone would want to go to the party, but the young woman hadn't realized her friend had been invited. Well, it made sense of course; no one would invite the likes of Daphne without also thinking of Persephone, who was probably higher up on the ladder than Daphne thanks to a much more likable disposition.

Before she can respond that she isn't going, a thought gives Daphne pause. Sydney has been hanging around with Brody for quite a while now, and given that she is known to be petty about these things, is it not likely that she will be hard on Persephone for the simple crime of being friends with Brody? Daphne is confident in her own ability to ignore such things, but she worries that Persephone, though very strong-willed, might be slightly more vulnerable thanks to her desire to branch out. Open arms leave one vulnerable, after all. Jake will be going, she sees, and Bastion will likely also be, but Daphne is cynical even towards her friends, and while she knows they would protect Persephone, fears they might go off somewhere and not realize the danger.

The chances of Persephone facing trickery are perhaps lower than Daphne thinks, but the girl has always been a bit negative regarding these things. Thus, she resolves to go to this party, in order to keep an eye on Persephone. Daphne responds to the text, then drops her phone and gives her closet a skeptical look.

To: Persephone, Jake, Bastion, John
A ride would be very much appreciated.

Of course, Bastion is going to the party. He usually does, despite knowing Sydney invites him only at Jane's request. After all, he actually quite likes parties, enjoying the music, as well as the fact that there always seems to be weed available. Anyway, this particular party is being held at a club, meaning the music might be very good. Well, hopefully. His reason for attending this party specifically, however, is an intent to follow up on his conversation with Jane. He's still a bit irritated about the whole exchange, but curiosity and concern for a friend always wins over that when it comes to Bastion. If the occasional argument kept him from friendships, he would never get along with Brody, now would he?

Bastion checks his phone to see the messages from John, Jake, Daphne, and Persephone. By the time he does this, however, he's already decided how to arrive to the party, and thus doesn't need a ride. The young man has a strange fondness for subways, despite disliking buses, and plans to take one to the area of the party. In fact, he is already leaving, if only because he estimates it will take him a while to walk to the nearest station.

To: Persephone, Daphne, Jake, John
I'll see you guys at the party, yeah? Got my own way there

Dressed less than to the T's, with a dark cardigan/sweater thing and a colorful scarf overlaying his dark vest, Bastion leaves the house. Of course, he says goodbye to Willow and Delphine first, and has to deal with them latching on to his legs, like they've done since they were toddlers, while he makes his way to the door. He does eventually successfully depart, though.

Meanwhile, Daphne waits for pick up on the front steps of her apartment building. She'd found a dress that used to belong to her elder sister, and seemed appropriate enough for the party. Knowing Persephone is a lover of fashion, she had bypassed her initial thought to just go in her pajamas. Lacking curves, the dress which might be considered sexy on other girls comes across as more elegant, certainly less sexual, on her. Daphne has zero qualms with this, having picked it also because she thought it looked nice with her heels. Daphne does love heels, which often have her towering over other girls.
