As she rode in the carriage she saw everyone in their town turn their heads, wondering why the Kingdom would ever go there.
Raven sighed and took in a few deep breaths. As they arrived closer to the castle, she was in awe of the beauty of it.
The carriage stopped and she climbed out, as two maids opened the two front hug doors into the castle. Raven's eyes were wide as she glanced around at all the beautiful accessories of the castle.
Edmund sat alone in the walled in area of the balcony over the main entrance. As he sat a small bird sat on the railing about ten feet from Edmund's hands. The bird began to sing a happy little song, however it's song was cut short by a guard slamming the doors open to where Edmund was hiding out.
"My Lord Edmund, she's here." The guard told Edmund, before the guard could finish Edmund snatched the bouquet of tiger lilies of off the end table and ran out the door. His head was swimming with emotion as he jumped over the last ten steps in the grand foyer, he landed a bit harder than he had thought but he quickly righted himself and brushed his hair out of his eyes with his fingers.
He shoved open the oranate marble doors and there she was standing, and she was beautiful.
"Romona!" Edmund called out kindly as he smiled at her, his heart was racing as he took a few steps towards her. He reminded himself, act calm, take normal steps, don't run. As he got within five feet of the girl he held out the bouquet carefully.
"Take these flowers, do they remind you of the day in spring by the stream? That was my favorite day and I have cherished that memory until even now today." Edmund smiled warmly and took in her loveliness for a moment.
"Come, I shall take you to your quarters Romona." Edmund said offering her his elbow.
One memory came in mind as she glanced at the flowers. Romona was talking to Edmund when a gust of wind blew the Tiger lilies she was selling. It blew them into the nearby stream, causing her to shriek and run to catch them. Once they were in the stream she splashed Edmund with water and he returned the favor. Raven smiled at the memory, picturing what it must've been like.
"Yes! How could I forget, you got me completely soaked!" Raven laughed like her sister used to, ladylike and elegant.
She smiled and placed her hand through his arm, resting it on his elbow. "Thank you, good sir." She chuckled, following him.
Edmund led her down many winding hallways and twisting passages until they reached the end of the hall. There in front of them stood an old wood door. Edmund grinned, took a deep breath and opened it. Inside stood many old book shelves lining the walls, and in the center of the room stood a old oak desk, worn and covered in documents. The room was dimly lit by a few burned down candles.
"I had always promised to bring you here someday to this old library, I was going to teach you how to read. Do you still need me to teach you Romona?" Edmund asked quizzically before closing the door behind them and hurrying with her in tow over to the tallest shelf. There on the third shelf laid a book. "This is the tales of King Arthur, it was my favorite book. I never had time to tell you about my favorite book. It was the last question you asked before. . . Heh, anyway what do you think?" Edmund sat down and she sat across from him. His green/blue eyes glowing in the dark of the room.
Ravens eyes widened as he opened the door revealing all the many books.
"Wow..." She said almost speechless. Due to the poorness in their town, Raven and Romona never learned to read.
Raven could read slightly, but it was hard. "Look at all the books!" She said excitedly. Although she loved to hunt, The idea of books secretly fancied her. She stood, taking in the ambiance of the room until she finally replied to him. "I have learned to read a little, but I highly doubt i could read anything in here," She said standing next to him and looking at the book. "Would you read this book to me?" She asked sweetly. "Your highness," She added in. She was trying to not loose her charm, but acting like her sister was hard.
Edmund reached out slowly and carefully, taking her small hand in his.
"Romona, my love, please you need not call me highness. Call me Eddie, like you did when we were younger." Edmund reached out and tucked a stray hair behind her ear. "Also, of course I will read to you. I will read to you whenever you want me too my sweet Romona." Edmund's white teeth practically glowed against his dark skin. He then tucked the book under his left arm and escorted Romona out. He walked her back the way they came until they saw a large ornate marble door with silver embossing carved into it. He carefully unlocked it with a silvery key and then opened the door with a slight creak.
"This is your room, mine is the one across the hall. If you need anything my door is always open my sweet one." With that Edmund bowed kissing her hand then gently releasing it before turning on his heel and walking away.
The room was decorated in lace, of soft pinks and silvers, finery of all sorts and an entire wardrobe full of the most lovely and elegant dresses and shoes. Corsets and makeup lay on and beside the vanity, and in the middle of the room by a window was a large bed. At the foot of the bed were two silken slippers that were a soft pink.
[center]Raven blushed slightly at his words and motions. "Yes, your high- I mean, Okay, Eddie." She stated softly.
Raven marveled at his looks. He was absolutely gorgeous. His bright teeth, and his tanned skin, also his dark hair radiating his eyes made her almost swoon. 'I can see why my sister fell for him so...' She thought but quickly shook the thoughts away.
Raven smiled and nodded, following him to her room. "Thank you Eddie," She said smiling and holding his hand as he walked away her grasps released. She took a deep breath as she opened and closed the door to her room. She couldn't believe how extravagant it was. Raven truly felt like a true Princess, especially with all the charming pink colors. She ran her hand across the bed, feeling the softness of the sheets and blankets. She plopped on her bed excitedly, she then squealed in her pillow happily.
She smiled looking down at the slippers and up again to take everything in.
A few hours after he had dropped off Romona Edmund walked over to her door and knocked three times.
"Hello Romona, I have prepared for us a special dinner on the terrace if you feel like eating with me." Edmund said. He had been working for the last two hours on dinner in secret, for if the servants saw him cooking they'd scold him again. Although if he had been caught it also wouldn't have been as exciting, the risk of being caught. All for the woman he loved. It was enthralling.
Raven tensed as she heard the sudden knock at the door. She had been exploring her new room, and also writing her mother a letter with the pencils and paper she found in her pink and white desk. "Oh, Yes!" She answered quickly. She was about to open the door when she looked down and noticed her torn clothing. 'This won't do.' She thought and raced over to the closet. "Just one moment Eddie!" She called out as she grabbed a random dress out of the closet. 'Perfect!' She thought. She quickly stripped off her old dress, and threw the new one on. It was an elegant long dress.
Edmund gasped and turned red when he saw her. She was stunning.
"Uh, th-the wait was no problem at all. Come," Edmund grasped her hand and walked briskly towards the terrace. They arrived and in front of them laid a small picnic type meal, sandwiches and looked like some sort of juice. Edmund looked at her and shrugged chuckling.
"So the food, isn't that great but uh, the view is pretty amazing."
And it was, the terrace was on the top level of the manor and it was covered in bright exotic flowers and green vibrant leafy plants. The terrace was a pearly white which was reflecting bright oranges and reds and pinks from the beautiful sunset over a small lake. The insects were all singing and a slight breeze was blowing.
"You look absolutely beautiful Romona. I wouldn't wish to be with anyone else tonight, or ever again. All I want is you." With that Edmund smiled and helped her over to the table that was set up on the terrace.
'Did he do all this himself..?' She thought chuckling slightly. 'Wow, he really cared for Romona..' She thought staring at the picnic. 'All he wants...is me?..No. All he wants is Romona, a-and that's how it should be..i-i mean I don't care about him..' She stuttered desperately in her mind trying to make sense of everything. 'Plus, if it weren't for these...Royals, Romona might still be alive..' She thought straightening herself out. "Thank you, Eddie, but please, you're making me blush.." She smiled and hid her mouth with her hand shyly. The terrace was beautiful though, it was sparkly and definitely expensive. The flowers also added a sort of, elegance to the venue.
Edmund watched her, she was lovely, however it seemed to him something was off. He wanted to kiss her, he had loved Romona for years and he was to marry her.
"Listen, uh, Romona. . . I hope you wouldn't think me too forward if. . . I kissed you. I mean, you know I love you, I've said so before." At the thought of this Edmund blushed softly reaching across and taking Romona's hands in his. He looked up into her eyes with a boyish passion, it was as if . . . He had remained in the past. As if, he had stayed with Romona in her day, refusing to allow his soul to age past the time he met her.
'I'm Romona for now, and as Romona I have to act the part....there's no part of me that wants to kiss him....right?' She continued her line of thinking until she smiled softly at him. "Eddie, I wouldn't mind, as long as its you." She smiled, sitting up straighter and holding his hand. She leaned over slowly, 'Is this what it feels like to be in love? to kiss the one you love?' She thought.
As Romona spoke Edmund's face turned a brighter shade of red, she said he could kiss her. He had been waiting for this day, he had waited for years. His precious Romona in front of him, beautiful as ever. . .
Gently Edmund took her face in his hands and kissed her, softly at first but then more passionately before pulling away. Then he glanced up at her smiling brightly.
"You make me very happy Romona, I feel like we were always meant to be. I had a feeling the day I met you, I couldn't explain it then but now I know it was love. Romona I'm so happy I found you again."
She held her breath, unmoving as a wave of millions and billions of feelings washed over her. Confused, nervous, happy, sad, and many more.
She kissed him back and pulled away close to the same time he did. As she listened to him tell her those sweet words, her smiled slowly faded. Tears began forming in her eyes and rolled down her cheeks as she looked away.
'If only.....those words were meant for me,..' She thought. She wiped her tears, "I-I'm Sorry Eddie," She apologized for the random act she did. 'He loved my sister so much...' Her mind stayed on the subject.
