True to Angels personality, he'd arrived quite early in comparison to the other students. After all, he'd finally ben accepted into this academy, and tardiness would just be disrespectful. Besides, he liked to be on time in any situation. So he sat in an empty space with a cigarette between his lips, puffing out thin wisps of smoke while the rest of the student body filed in.
Eventually, a little less then 30minutes later, the stream of teenagers entering the stadium dwindled. On cue, the air itself seemed to tremble as the headmaster entered the area. The crowd shifted their attention to him, those who weren't already seated quickly settling in. There were hisses of whispers and nervous shuffling from those around Angel as they took in the size of the headmaster- a large Ignis Dragon, the oldest and wisest in this part of the world, maybe even all of Cree.
Angel, of course, had done his research and wasn't surprised by the appearance of the Headmaster. He didn't shift or look to the person next to him nervously. Just leaned forward with his elbows propped on his knees, large biceps clearly shown by his muscle shirt. He focused his attention on the rumbling voice, trying not to think of the dragons affinity with fire.
Fire. The word brought bad associations with it, especially when paired with wild. If there was one thing Angel was truly afraid of, it was out of control fire.
He put the thought aside, knowing that the wise beast would never cast flames at his students.
After a few moments of listening to the dragons slightly comical speech, he released them to hunt for a companion.
The crowd, filled with eager students, stood almost as one, some rushing some meandering towards the doors that had been opened.
Angel took his time getting over there, mulling over the companion ship.
It wasn't that he was planning on being particularly picky, but he had a few bad habits his companion would have to put up with. Personality would matter, and since he'd be choosing an egg, that factor probably couldn't even come into play.
All he knew for sure was that he wanted a dragon; just not an Ignis. The tall teenager wasn't keen on putting up with a dragon who had no control over his fire yet.
Angel moved through the meadow, throwing a wink to two blonde girls playing with baby unicorns. They giggled and waved back, and he mentally patted himself on the back as he continued walking.
Still got the charm~<3He passed a few dragon nests, tucked away in the grass, only betrayed by the large mothers, glowering as he walked past. The noise and excitement of the other students faded into the background as he got farther and farther away, towards the mountains. They weren't the tallest mountains he'd seen, but for an enclosed room, Angel considered this a pretty impressive display.
He wondered if he'd find any eggs up there.
Perhaps only because of his curiosity, Angel walked up the first cliff-like wall of the mountain he came across, lodging his combat boots into the stone. After spitting his cigarette onto the stone, he began the climb.
It wasn't exactly difficult to haul himself up the nearly vertical slope, though for anyone with less muscles it might have been. That being said, it also could have been easier for someone wearing loser jeans.
After maybe seven minutes of climbing, once Angel had established he wanted a view since he was putting this much effort in, He paused on an outcrop to catch his breath. He saw the ghosting of his exhale and realized the temperature had dropped. He assumed it was some magic to make up for the lack of height, so animals accustomed to cold on mountains would feel in place.
Once he was ready to go again, he paused, glancing away from the stone.
And whistled loudly at the view.
So maybe this room was an enclosed space, but honestly, it looked real enough to him. He was low enough to make out forms of people with new companions, carrying eggs, leading unicorns, some walking with the glitter of fairy wings fluttering around them. Some had chosen eggs ready to hatch, and where adorned with bursts of their dragons element.
Angel was distracted suddenly by a flash of silver to his right. Eyes narrowed, he moved along the narrow ledge until he spotted the source.
A dragon, small in comparison to Draconem, was perched over the nest fluttering it's wings and blowing jets of warm air from it's nostrils. ?
He swung back out onto the rocks, scurrying up the ledge, only slowing down so he wouldn't startle her.
On the ledge was a nest, over which the dragon was peering in on two whole eggs. The mother was a dusty blue with sleek wings and a long neck was hopping around the nest and immediately Angel could tell these were Tempestast dragons.
Hm. Lightening or wind, no fire?
Fit the bill alright.
He climbed higher and announced his presence to the mother.
"Hello!"
Her long neck shot up to him, perhaps a bit surprised.
"I'm a student at the Ryder school. I was wondering if you might be so kind as to allow one of your young to be my companion?"
The mother starred at him for nearly a full minute and Angel starred back, trying to look as good as a student as he could, though he knew his appearance was misleading.
"It's been years since a student came to these mountains, searching for a companion. Angel nodded as the voice filled his head like a whisper.
"I've raised many a nest of young here with nothing but good will from the school. You may choose one of my eggs, young sir.She bowed her head, and Angel bowed his own in response, marveling at the sophistication of the mother. She must have been quite old.
He stared at the two eggs, and felt more attracted to the one nearest to him, a blue color with a dusting of grey specks. He picked it up carefully, beginning to consider how he would get down.
The mother tossed her head, seeming to sense his dilemma.
"Climb a short ways down and there will be a clear slope, easy enough for a human to walk on."Thanks you, I'm much indebted."
~~~
Thank fully, Angel managed to keep the egg safe on his return trip, even if the slope wasn't exactly the safest thing to walk on. The last several feet had him sliding down on his tail bone, clutching his egg for its life.
Just as he was about to head back into the stadium, feeling like he'd just had a workout, he noticed a crack on the egg. He stopped in his tracks, the person heading back behind him nearly slamming into his back.
"Oh no, no, no come on! I broke it!?"
As if to taunt him, an entire piece of the shell flung off. Angel starred at it with wide eyes, about to throw himself to the ground and complain to the heavens- when a snout appeared. Huge ears popped out soon after as more of the egg cracked. Angel thanked the lord that he hadn't broke it.
Not minutes later, a small silky dragon was crawling her way around his arms and neck. Angel practically cooed, stroking it's fur gently as he continued into the stadium, betraying a soft spot for animals. It had a sleek body, obviously meant for speed, and thick horns and a tail, that whacked him sharply in the cheek as she circled his shoulders. He chuckled amused, and held her up as she perched on his forearm.
"Hi there sweetie, my names Rowan, but you can call me Angel,"
He moved into the crowd and sat in an open spot next to two pretty girls, who seemed occupied with each other, so Angel nodded a greeting to them and just continued showering his new companion with muttered compliments and admiring his very own dragon.
"Ooh, your fur is so interesting- and your wings are already so big!"
His fingers traced the little dragons wings, which already seemed to be bigger then when she hatched.
"What would you like me to call you?"
