Introduction
Humans: The middlemen and the most ambitious race found in most continents. Humans are referred to (sometimes affectionately, sometimes not) as the βawkward phaseβ between Elementals and Aerians, humans are a sort of mix between the technologically-minded and the magically-minded. Some humans with an elemental lineage (a common situation) are born with subtler magical abilities, though not often to a large or significant extent. These abilities can include things such as: Being able to hover a few inches or a foot off the ground, the ability to change hair colour at will, or the ability to turn liquids into gas. Despite being the largest population in the continent, humans are often regarded with contempt by the other two races. They have an average lifespan of 70-85 years, a height that is not tall or short, and no real large advances in the departments of magic or sciences. However, despite the Aeriansβs love of knowledge and literacy, the Humans dominate the realm of myth and arts. While Aerians are known for their grandiose technology and Elementals for their beautiful ancient architecture and elegant culture, most history books are written by Humans, who have left their mark on the world with their wide array of talents, usually involving the fiction they write, their copious contributions to the art/music/dramatic world, and of course their most famous moment in history: creating, implementing, and sustaining the peace/anti-discrimination treaty between the Elementals and Aerians. Humans are known as the jack of all trades, and the unseen ruling class.
Aerians: Said to be descendants of the rebels from the Eenlin Civil War, the Aerians are a technologically advanced race that lives on the floating island of Aeolus, kept afloat thousands of feet off the ground by powerful steam engines and machines. They are a smaller branch of humans, usually growing only from 5β3β-5β7β. They have adapted to the thinner air the high altitude, but tend to be thinner themselves. Asthma is incredibly common among Aerians, which is why Inhalers are a mandatory requirement. Strenuous physical activity can send them into hyperventilation, due to their decreased levels of oxygen and red blood cells. Most Aerians are smaller and skinny, living to about 60 years old. They seem to reject religion in place of Atheism, and have a reputation for their hatred of magic. Though this is true for some demographics of Aeolus Isle, most have learned to co-exist with their fellow magical beings. This race is widely known for being the first to create steam powered engines, flintlock guns and muskets, radio communication, electricity, but most importantly: The Airship. The Aerian education system favours science and literacy above all else, and to some only seem to think in terms of logic and pragmatism.
The Aeolus Isle
The large island in the sky, north of Tineburgh/Kendenn and directly upward. This large city is known for its technological advancements and military strength. It is composed of mostly Aerian and a slightly smaller minority of humans. Since the treaty had been passed decades ago, it has a slowly growing population of Elementals as well (mostly air-type), but doesnβt have the best history of respect for them. The island was said to have been created after the Aerians wanted to break away from the Elemental kingdom to create their own. Years were spent gathering the technology and steam power required to do such a wild thing, and at the height of war, the ground split and the island ascended into the heavens, where it has remained ever since. Breathing aids are given to those visiting for the first time.
Tineburgh
Upper:
Lower:
The Capitol of Temaria and believed to have the most diversity. Through itβs largeness and claim that nobody would ever be turned away from a hospitable home, the unemployment and often homelessness in the slums of the large city is undeniable. Covered up, but undeniable. The city is 38% human, 31% Aerian and 31% Elemental. It is the capitol trading city for goods and services, and was established after the Eenlin Civil War. It also has a reputation for itβs illegal gambling halls at the back of many bars and run-down departments.
Note on the slums of Tineburgh: Gangs and thugs are incredibly prevalent here.
Illmori
Above Ground:
Underground:
A large city that sits partially above ground and partially underground. Beneath itβs initial large, expansive and frankly beautiful architecture of marble and stone walls lays a set of sometimes romantically and sometimes brightly lit caverns filled with secret ponds, rivers and interesting wildlife. This is the main Elemental city, and it is visited often for its beauty and rich culture. It has of course, a large number of Elementals, a smaller minority of humans, and little Aerians. Most of itβs lights and elegant aspects are created/sustained with magic, much to the contempt of the Aeolus Empire.
Religion:
Main Goddess β Ylena, Mother of The Earth and her Elements.
God of the Skies - Ualdir
Goddess of Law and Justice - Ivtris
God of Knowledge and Legends - Abados
Goddess of War - Oselia
God of Wealth and Medicine β Eione
God of Deviants β Deisii the genderless god.
God of Love, Family, and Relations -Aluis
Goddess of The Arts and Architecture β Erva
Goddess of Sleep, Dreams, and Death β Aisling
Afterlife: It is said in the Elemental culture that when you die, you wander the dream world with the goddess Aisling forevermore, to shape it as you see fit if you have been worthy of this life. The scripture states that humans were given their magic by the gods to protect themselves and the world from the harsh creatures created by Deisii, and was to be a blessing and a sign of love from Ylena. βAfter Divine Interventionβ refers to this legend, as it was believed that during the thousands of years before that, the world was divided in chaos and death, but united after being given this gift.
(It was also united because everyone didnβt have to fight for their life and could actually learn to read and write, and learn a common language.)
A Timeline:
ADI: After Divine Intervention
The Arcana Aeon: 502 ADI β 581 ADI
This was an age about a century or so ago where Elementals mostly ruled over the kingdoms due to their superior magical abilities. Humans were a smaller sub race that lived among them. In some cultures they were treated fairly, but in the eastern countries humans of frail size or without magical ability could often only find work in Illmori or the former (very large) capitol city of Eenlin as servants or labourers. Elemental history books will state that they were paid labourers, whereas Aerian history books state that they were slaves.
The Age of Rebellion: 582 β 583 ADI
Mistreated humans were tired of being seen as lower than the Elementals, and revolted after a peaceful protest of class differences was disrupted by a fistfight and crude words from their magical kin. Soon after began to the Eenlin Riots, which were violent protests that lead to civil war.
The Eenlin Civil War: 583 β 587 ADI
The civil war lead to many, many casualties of mostly humans. This was when the developments of technology truly began within the human race. Dynamite and muskets were created for war, as well as an incendiary weapon known as Alchemistβs Fire which-- since it was not natural fire-- could not be manipulated by Fire Elementalists. The humans were able to take Eenlin for themselves, and began expanding on other colonies, the most prominent and famous being Tineburgh.
The Age of False Peace: 587 β 634 ADI
This term is used loosely, as the tension between Illmori and Eenlin was running excruciatingly high. Border scuffles were often, discrimination was incredibly prominent in both cities, and hate-crimes were frequent.
The Mechanical War: 634 β 639 ADI
Eventually, the humans of Eenlin began a war with the Elementals of Illmori after an important member of their Senate was found dead just outside the βenemyβ streets. The Elementals argued that they would not break the peace in such a violent act, but the war erupted nonetheless with a push and shove from the Eenlin council. The Elementals began badly losing due to their refusal to fight with anything beyond blades and their own magic. Many who did not want a part in the war fled to Tineburgh as refugees, where they were accepted and taken in by hospitable families and homes. (This also lead to Elemental and Human couples, who produced offspring with a magical side).
The Creation of Aeolus Island: 639 ADI
The humans of Eenlin had been working on a way to separate themselves entirely from the Elementals and continue the war from the skies. In 639 ADI, the Elemental military leader and priest Zephros writes:
βAnd before me unfolded an image of great magnitude. The ground began to shake and split as if the gods themselves were tearing it by its roots, slowly lifting it from the ground with great and mighty rumbles that no Earth Elementalist could ever equal. It ascended to the heavens, leaving the echoes of the whirring machines in its wake. Moments after, explosions littered the battlefield, the soldiers flew into the air and returned to the ground as lifeless as ragdolls. I fear we will not win this war.β
The humans of the former Elemental capitol renamed themselves the βAeriansβ, and the capitol became the Aeolus Island.
The Concord Treaty- 639 ADI
The humans and Elementals of Tineburgh had seen the effects of the bombs, deciding that the war had to end. The humans went to reason with the Aerians, whereas the Elementals went to tend to their own injured kind. Several representatives from both sides were called in for negotiations, and there was a large debate, neither side wanted to back down for the insult done to them, but eventually Jamie Cartwright, councilwoman of Tineburgh broke through the arguing with her famous quote: βOur cultures and cities will be swept away in this war like ants in a flood, if these people are to act like children, I will treat them as such.β
The books say that she had sent out letters to the guards after blocking the exits with the forces that had been brought with her, and she had simply refused to let anyone leave until they came to a proper understanding. A month later, this became the official document known as the Concord Treaty, which states that in the country of Temaria, all are equal, no wars will be wrought. Peace, acceptance of culture, and a unity will be maintained.

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 3 authors
Piper was right, for once in her life the Aer girl was right. They needed to leave. "Come on!" Axel shouted out though he was unsure where to go. It didn't take him long to choose a direction though as he darted to the right. And oddly he hoped the pair of them followed. He felt a cough begin to build as he turned back to check if they were following, yet he had no idea where he was taking them. He didn't know where they were, he had never been this far away from home. The Aer girl had crashed, she had no idea where she was either.
Axel's head snapped to the only one left, the one who claimed to be human. "Redcaster! I hope you know your way around these forests. It's on you now to take us to safety." He shouted out as the sprinted, though the forest began to catch fire at a much rapid pace. They needed to move quick.
"... Screw it," He muttered, turning and starting to run without another word. He decided to just try the same direction he had gotten to this clearing from, remembering the run was fairly short. He didn't bother to look back, keeping his eyes on the ground to make sure he doesn't trip on his way to safety. Making sure the other two kept up with him wasn't his highest priority. Hell, it isn't even top five.
She knew the Hand of Ylena was still prominent though... why that and not the Brotherhood?
But they were out of it, they had escaped and they carried the Brotherhood's weapons on their backs. Gods be damned if she wouldn't survive this.
"Come on Redcaster! Prove you aren't as useless as you look!" He shouted out along with swears in his own tongue under his breath as the trio continued to run.
The run out of the woods was relatively short, likely faster than the run into the woods due to the increased adrenaline that now coursed through Simon's body. He broke through the treeline and found himself back at the dirt path he had started at, immediately bending forward and taking in deep, tired breaths. His gray sweater was thoroughly soaked in sweat at this point, strands of hair clinging to his forehead. He straightened out his posture, taking in one last breath before letting out a hysterical chuckle, looking over at the other two.
"... So, what now?" He asked, unsure where to go from here. He had gotten them out of the woods, so logically this should be where they part ways. Simon wasn't sure how much longer he wanted to stick around these two, since they seemed to just be magnets of bad luck and horrible experiences.
"My... My rations are gone... I... Simon. Where's the nearest city? I need to restock somehow." She grumbled. Piper had never been one to enjoy admitting that she was out of options, that she didn't have a clever plan to back herself up, but there she stood; sorrowfully broke and likely to starve within the next few days if she didn't manage to feed herself.
"That way is Tineburgh. I can take you there and... show you around... if you want," He said, not seeming too thrilled with himself for offering, "And I hope one of you two have some means of payment, because otherwise we're going to have to steal whatever we want."
And she didn't trust the blonde not to run off once he'd gotten his food. She didn't exactly trust Simon either, but the feeling was still there.
Then again, she'd heard bad things about the slums of Tineburgh... Perhaps some buff teenager could be beneficial to her.
The young woman grumbled something under her breath, shoving a hand into her oversized aviator's jacket to find her beaten up wallet. There wasn't much in there... so she doubted it would last her past today. She'd either have to find a job or start stealing for a living...
Perhaps there's a few job openings in the slums. She thought to herself.
"Right.. fine... but I don't have much to pay for food for the lot of us. It'll likely be just this one day that I'm actually able buy anything period until I can... find some sort of employment."
Though if he were to get to Tineburgh and split off, stealing his own bread it would become much harder. Plus together, they definitely would be able to score a lot more, aside from stale bread sitting out on the markets. Axel felt a cold feeling wash over his spine as he thought to himself about honestly working with these two. Neither of them could be trusted, no matter what they just did back there. But did he really have a choice?
Axel grunted and stretched out his long muscled arm before glancing over to Simon. "What are we waiting for? Lead the way Aerian.. I'm still on to you." He said squinting his eyes at him to make sure he knew the severity of that statement. "You too." He said wagging a smoking finger at Piper. But for the most part, Axel was on board.
Simon turned away from the two of them and towards where he said Tineburgh was, starting to walk away and motioning for them to follow. His pace was slow and casual, as if he wasn't just running away from a forest fire.
"Meat-head is right, we'll just steal some food. With the three of us it should be easy, and we'll be able to get more than if we paid with whatever little money you have left, Goggles," He said, turning his head slightly to talk over his shoulder, "I hope none of you are above crime."
"Fine... It should work," She mumbled, before quickly adding, "And don't call me 'Goggles'."
The gang walked on towards Tineburgh, putting distance between them and the wreckage of the airship. By the time they reached the lower district of the city, it was getting close to sunset. While the streets weren't as crowded as they were at mid-day, there were still some people roaming the streets. Simon lead the other two towards a bakery, watching the building from an alleyway on the other side of the street. Simon wasn't planning on stealing any stale bread, believing that'd be too easy for someone of his skill. He wanted to take freshly baked bread, and he had a plan to do it. He turned towards the other two, keeping his voice in a low whisper, though they were already relatively safe from anyone overhearing inside the alleyway.
"Okay, here's the plan. We're going to wait till someone leaves that Bakery with a fresh loaf of bread or whatever they order. We follow them till we're relatively alone and we get them into an alley," Simon says, looking between the two quickly, his eyes finally resting on Piper, "You. Give me the gun, I'll press it into their back to convince them to go quietly, and then we grab the bread and their money and run. Simple as that."
But then again, it was either that or possible starvation.
"Why should you get the gun?" She whispered out, despite the fact that there was no need for it. "I can probably use it better than you.."
Axel rolled his neck and cracked his knuckles as he looked over to the bakery. "Besides, one good punched aimed at the top of their head and they are out cold. Humans are built weak." he said with a growl. Though he was saying whatever, Axel was already eager to get this plan into action. Whatever it is they went with, and the growling of his stomach was proof of it. First time in Tineburgh and he was going to steal something with two Aerians who previously tried to kill him. What a day.
Simon crosses his arms, scowling at them. The offer was genuine, he didn't care either way who did it. He was long since indifferent towards committing such simple crimes, but he suspected at the very least that Piper wouldn't be a fan of doing it herself. Simon's eyes glanced back to the Bakery, noticing someone exit with a fairly large loaf of bread wrapped up and cradled between their arms. It was without a doubt enough to feed all three of them, and it was currently getting further and further away from them.
Simon turned back to them, his voice frantic, "Okay, I don't care who has the gun, but we need to decide now if we want to eat," He says jerking his thumb over his shoulder towards the leaving person.
On one hand, she wanted to at least establish some independence in front of the hothead, but on the other hand, crime was bad. Independence, crime. Independence, crime. Independence, crime.
She went back and forth in her head for a few minutes before a very real outcome crossed her mind. Should they be caught and she identified, she'd be sent back to her mother with not only the weight of having run away from home, but having held an innocent person at gunpoint for some measly bread.
Yes, letting Simon take the gun was probably the better option.
"Stuff it." She'd grumbled to Axel, before reluctantly handing over the gun.
He kept a good distance between the man and him, though kept him in his eyesight, licking his lips at the thought of the bread in his stomach. He glanced behind him to his two little Aerian misfits and frantically waved them over. His eagerness might have been a big problem to their cover, though he was trying his hardest to control it.
Just as quickly as the smile came it was gone as Simon moved to follow Axel, tucking the flintlock that Piper gave into the back of his waistband. They trailed the person for a good while, letting them get a good look and size them up. From the few glances they got of the person's face they could tell it was a boy, likely only a few years older than them. He wasn't physically intimidating in the slightest, and if it came to it Axel could definitely take him in a fight. He was dressed in drab grays, the only splash of color a bright yellow scrap of cloth sticking out of their back pocket.
As the already small amount of people around thinned out to an even lesser amount, Simon gave a quick look to Axel and Piper, making sure they were still with him on this and following.
She'd had continued her route alongside them, keeping to the back while occasionally glaring daggers at Axel for his reckless behaviour. If something should go wrong, she was in a good position to book it. The thought gave her some reassurance despite what they were all about to be put through.
Once Simon was done saying this, he moved forward to close the distance between him and the man as they neared an alleyway, pressing the gun into his back before hissing out demands into his ear, "Don't run. Calmly move into the alley."
The man stiffed suddenly as the boom stick was pushed against his spine, clear from his body posture that he wasn't willing to risk it as he followed the orders, nervously shuffling into the alleyway with the three right behind him. Once they were in, Simon shoved the man harshly to the ground, snapping his head towards Axel and Piper.
"Fire-boy, hold him down so he doesn't run. Goggles, grab the bread and search him for anything else," He barked out, then quickly turning his attention back to the man. Simon kept the gun aimed onto him as added persuasion not to run. The man was sprawled out on his back, looking up at the trio with clear fear in his eyes. He eyed up Axel, not only intimidated by his sheer size but also by the smoke coming from his head, making the man realize this was a fire elemental he was dealing with.
Needless to say, he was not going to be running.
Well, perhaps she could be considered a street rat. The two boys stunk like the sewers.
The hesitation was clear in her eyes, and it lingered for a few moments only to dash away in favour of aggravation at the nickname she'd acquired.
If she was going to live in Tineburgh-- notorious for its gambling halls and slum street gangs-- she'd need to show a little less remorse in situations like this. Despite the discomfort it brought her, she gave a small nod and went to search him, hoping that he wouldn't try fighting back.
Axel pinned down his arms, a wild look in his eyes and his head in a ball of flames. He pinned down the mans arms and kept his head looming over his, so all the man made eye contact with was the burning face in front of him who was practically foaming at the mouth for this chance. Axel fed off the fear the human man had in his eyes, every little squirm the man gave only a fuel to Axel's fire. Axel pressed down on the mans arms maybe a little harder then he needed to. If that man was an Aerian, he'd probably be choked to death by now.
Axel whipped his head back to the both of them, seeing what progress they were making. While Piper was dreading it, and Simon was simply doing what he had to do to survive. Axel was actually enjoying every second of it. Axel turned his head back to the mans, a smile coming across his face as he sniffed the air above him. "Why have bread when I can dine on your flesh?" He said in a sharp whisper to the man, his accent clinging tight to every word he spoke. He was clearly only trying to scare every bit of life out of his soul. Elemental's were not cannibals of course, but that didn't stop Axel from saying it. He almost forgot about the growling deep in the pit of his stomach as he got too carried away with the entertainment of scaring this man.
"Hands off!" The man exclaims, speaking for the first time. He now struggles against Axel, trying to reach towards Piper. The money seemed to be very important to the man, seeing as he was willing to fight Axel's restraint to get it back.
"Goggles, keep that money away from the guy," Simon says, taking a small step forward. He narrows his eyes, looking between the man and the money. He keeps his aim on the man steady just in case Axel can't keep him down, though it's unlikely that Axel will be overpowered.
