Introduction
Humans: The middlemen and the most ambitious race found in most continents. Humans are referred to (sometimes affectionately, sometimes not) as the βawkward phaseβ between Elementals and Aerians, humans are a sort of mix between the technologically-minded and the magically-minded. Some humans with an elemental lineage (a common situation) are born with subtler magical abilities, though not often to a large or significant extent. These abilities can include things such as: Being able to hover a few inches or a foot off the ground, the ability to change hair colour at will, or the ability to turn liquids into gas. Despite being the largest population in the continent, humans are often regarded with contempt by the other two races. They have an average lifespan of 70-85 years, a height that is not tall or short, and no real large advances in the departments of magic or sciences. However, despite the Aeriansβs love of knowledge and literacy, the Humans dominate the realm of myth and arts. While Aerians are known for their grandiose technology and Elementals for their beautiful ancient architecture and elegant culture, most history books are written by Humans, who have left their mark on the world with their wide array of talents, usually involving the fiction they write, their copious contributions to the art/music/dramatic world, and of course their most famous moment in history: creating, implementing, and sustaining the peace/anti-discrimination treaty between the Elementals and Aerians. Humans are known as the jack of all trades, and the unseen ruling class.
Aerians: Said to be descendants of the rebels from the Eenlin Civil War, the Aerians are a technologically advanced race that lives on the floating island of Aeolus, kept afloat thousands of feet off the ground by powerful steam engines and machines. They are a smaller branch of humans, usually growing only from 5β3β-5β7β. They have adapted to the thinner air the high altitude, but tend to be thinner themselves. Asthma is incredibly common among Aerians, which is why Inhalers are a mandatory requirement. Strenuous physical activity can send them into hyperventilation, due to their decreased levels of oxygen and red blood cells. Most Aerians are smaller and skinny, living to about 60 years old. They seem to reject religion in place of Atheism, and have a reputation for their hatred of magic. Though this is true for some demographics of Aeolus Isle, most have learned to co-exist with their fellow magical beings. This race is widely known for being the first to create steam powered engines, flintlock guns and muskets, radio communication, electricity, but most importantly: The Airship. The Aerian education system favours science and literacy above all else, and to some only seem to think in terms of logic and pragmatism.
The Aeolus Isle
The large island in the sky, north of Tineburgh/Kendenn and directly upward. This large city is known for its technological advancements and military strength. It is composed of mostly Aerian and a slightly smaller minority of humans. Since the treaty had been passed decades ago, it has a slowly growing population of Elementals as well (mostly air-type), but doesnβt have the best history of respect for them. The island was said to have been created after the Aerians wanted to break away from the Elemental kingdom to create their own. Years were spent gathering the technology and steam power required to do such a wild thing, and at the height of war, the ground split and the island ascended into the heavens, where it has remained ever since. Breathing aids are given to those visiting for the first time.
Tineburgh
Upper:
Lower:
The Capitol of Temaria and believed to have the most diversity. Through itβs largeness and claim that nobody would ever be turned away from a hospitable home, the unemployment and often homelessness in the slums of the large city is undeniable. Covered up, but undeniable. The city is 38% human, 31% Aerian and 31% Elemental. It is the capitol trading city for goods and services, and was established after the Eenlin Civil War. It also has a reputation for itβs illegal gambling halls at the back of many bars and run-down departments.
Note on the slums of Tineburgh: Gangs and thugs are incredibly prevalent here.
Illmori
Above Ground:
Underground:
A large city that sits partially above ground and partially underground. Beneath itβs initial large, expansive and frankly beautiful architecture of marble and stone walls lays a set of sometimes romantically and sometimes brightly lit caverns filled with secret ponds, rivers and interesting wildlife. This is the main Elemental city, and it is visited often for its beauty and rich culture. It has of course, a large number of Elementals, a smaller minority of humans, and little Aerians. Most of itβs lights and elegant aspects are created/sustained with magic, much to the contempt of the Aeolus Empire.
Religion:
Main Goddess β Ylena, Mother of The Earth and her Elements.
God of the Skies - Ualdir
Goddess of Law and Justice - Ivtris
God of Knowledge and Legends - Abados
Goddess of War - Oselia
God of Wealth and Medicine β Eione
God of Deviants β Deisii the genderless god.
God of Love, Family, and Relations -Aluis
Goddess of The Arts and Architecture β Erva
Goddess of Sleep, Dreams, and Death β Aisling
Afterlife: It is said in the Elemental culture that when you die, you wander the dream world with the goddess Aisling forevermore, to shape it as you see fit if you have been worthy of this life. The scripture states that humans were given their magic by the gods to protect themselves and the world from the harsh creatures created by Deisii, and was to be a blessing and a sign of love from Ylena. βAfter Divine Interventionβ refers to this legend, as it was believed that during the thousands of years before that, the world was divided in chaos and death, but united after being given this gift.
(It was also united because everyone didnβt have to fight for their life and could actually learn to read and write, and learn a common language.)
A Timeline:
ADI: After Divine Intervention
The Arcana Aeon: 502 ADI β 581 ADI
This was an age about a century or so ago where Elementals mostly ruled over the kingdoms due to their superior magical abilities. Humans were a smaller sub race that lived among them. In some cultures they were treated fairly, but in the eastern countries humans of frail size or without magical ability could often only find work in Illmori or the former (very large) capitol city of Eenlin as servants or labourers. Elemental history books will state that they were paid labourers, whereas Aerian history books state that they were slaves.
The Age of Rebellion: 582 β 583 ADI
Mistreated humans were tired of being seen as lower than the Elementals, and revolted after a peaceful protest of class differences was disrupted by a fistfight and crude words from their magical kin. Soon after began to the Eenlin Riots, which were violent protests that lead to civil war.
The Eenlin Civil War: 583 β 587 ADI
The civil war lead to many, many casualties of mostly humans. This was when the developments of technology truly began within the human race. Dynamite and muskets were created for war, as well as an incendiary weapon known as Alchemistβs Fire which-- since it was not natural fire-- could not be manipulated by Fire Elementalists. The humans were able to take Eenlin for themselves, and began expanding on other colonies, the most prominent and famous being Tineburgh.
The Age of False Peace: 587 β 634 ADI
This term is used loosely, as the tension between Illmori and Eenlin was running excruciatingly high. Border scuffles were often, discrimination was incredibly prominent in both cities, and hate-crimes were frequent.
The Mechanical War: 634 β 639 ADI
Eventually, the humans of Eenlin began a war with the Elementals of Illmori after an important member of their Senate was found dead just outside the βenemyβ streets. The Elementals argued that they would not break the peace in such a violent act, but the war erupted nonetheless with a push and shove from the Eenlin council. The Elementals began badly losing due to their refusal to fight with anything beyond blades and their own magic. Many who did not want a part in the war fled to Tineburgh as refugees, where they were accepted and taken in by hospitable families and homes. (This also lead to Elemental and Human couples, who produced offspring with a magical side).
The Creation of Aeolus Island: 639 ADI
The humans of Eenlin had been working on a way to separate themselves entirely from the Elementals and continue the war from the skies. In 639 ADI, the Elemental military leader and priest Zephros writes:
βAnd before me unfolded an image of great magnitude. The ground began to shake and split as if the gods themselves were tearing it by its roots, slowly lifting it from the ground with great and mighty rumbles that no Earth Elementalist could ever equal. It ascended to the heavens, leaving the echoes of the whirring machines in its wake. Moments after, explosions littered the battlefield, the soldiers flew into the air and returned to the ground as lifeless as ragdolls. I fear we will not win this war.β
The humans of the former Elemental capitol renamed themselves the βAeriansβ, and the capitol became the Aeolus Island.
The Concord Treaty- 639 ADI
The humans and Elementals of Tineburgh had seen the effects of the bombs, deciding that the war had to end. The humans went to reason with the Aerians, whereas the Elementals went to tend to their own injured kind. Several representatives from both sides were called in for negotiations, and there was a large debate, neither side wanted to back down for the insult done to them, but eventually Jamie Cartwright, councilwoman of Tineburgh broke through the arguing with her famous quote: βOur cultures and cities will be swept away in this war like ants in a flood, if these people are to act like children, I will treat them as such.β
The books say that she had sent out letters to the guards after blocking the exits with the forces that had been brought with her, and she had simply refused to let anyone leave until they came to a proper understanding. A month later, this became the official document known as the Concord Treaty, which states that in the country of Temaria, all are equal, no wars will be wrought. Peace, acceptance of culture, and a unity will be maintained.

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 3 authors
"Red... The Hounds..." She mutters with disgust, "This isn't their area... what the hell is Quinn thinking?"
Simon looks back to Axel once more, giving him a look of respect and a small nod. He had to admit, that was a pretty good one. If Axel kept up this kind of thinking, Simon could get used to having him around. Simon's small moment of respect was quickly shattered, however, as Val shouts out to them once again.
"So you lost my money, you think that means you're off the hook?" She asks, releasing Piper and kicking her forward to the other two, her fists then clenching at her sides, "That was debt money. The man you beat up was collecting debts around the city, and now there's one more to collect: Yours. You three are going to make me double... no, TRIPLE what you lost, or I'm coming back and I'll burn you all to the ground."
She gasped for air, only to let it back out in the form of a pained yelp as she was kicked toward the boys again. Struggling to regain her footing, she put her hands up with open palms in a sign of surrender. "R-Right! Right! We'll return the debt!" She spoke with haste, trying to just get the gang of thugs and their numerous heavy weapons out of the warehouse.
He buried his head into the crook of his arm once more as if to seem bored of Val while in the meantime out of their sight he was chomping on his bicep in anger. "You'll get your money.. Now can we sleep?" He shouted out from within his arm.
"A hundred and fifty marks, eh?" She says, looking to the man as he gives a nod of confirmation. She then turns back to the three kids, her grin smug, "That means you rascals have to round up four hundred and fifty marks. I don't care how you get it, just so long as you get it to me. And soon."
With that, Val brings her fingers to her lips and lets out a shrill whistle, the Wasps surrounding them shuffling towards the exit, a few purposefully bumping into the kids and pushing them around, one even going as far as to step on Axel's hand as he lays on the ground. Val was the last one to leave, looking back at the kids one last time.
"Oh, and if you three are serious about wanting to form a gang here in Tineburgh, you'd better round up some more members," She chuckles, the idea of these three kids forming any sort of gang funny to her, "Come pay a visit to the Gambling District, plenty of people looking to make a name for themselves down there. And while you're at it, check out one of our shows at the Theater, we get great reviews.~"
And finally, Val exits the Warehouse as well, leaving the kids with a broken window, a few light injuries, and a debt of one hundred and fifty marks, no small task.
"Well this sucks," Simon mutters, his happy mood from earlier in the night completely destroyed.
Cons:
- Now 450 marks in debt to the Theatre wasps
- Possibly fuelled the fire of a potential gang war between them and the 'Hounds'
- Hounds might be pissed at them for lying about it
- Committing more crimes to pay off debt
- Paying off debt will take longer unless they just choose not to eat for a month
- Already made enemies
Pros:
- ??
- ???? ?//?????
- We now know where to see a good play.
"But at least we didn't die..." She mumbled aloud with a sarcastic edge to her tone.
Axel was furious as he began pacing the room back and forth, his body flaring up every once in a while as he grumbled on inaudibly. Though the occasional "Bitch!" and "I'll kill her!" could be heard through his low rant. He stopped dead in his track and whipped his head around to Piper, his response to her words incredibly late. "At least we didn't die huh? AT LEAST WE DIDN'T DIE?!?!" His body flared again "LET ME TELL YOU WHAT DIED TODAY PIPER! OUR PRIDE, OUR PRIDE DIED TODAY! OUR REPUTATION, IS CURRENTLY ROLLING IN IT'S GRAVE! AND ALL OF OUR SUCCESS ON ROBBING THAT MAN JUST SHRIVELED UP INTO A LITTLE.. A LITTLE THING, AND DIED!" He shouted out breathing heavily as he whipped his head around and continued pacing.
"Four hundred and fifty marks... That is four hundred and fifty marks we do NOT HAVE!" He shouted out turning back to them and jabbing his finger into his palm. "And this is four hundred and fifty marks WE SHALL NOT PAY!" He shouted his voice echoing throughout the warehouse before he turned and walked out. Though within a couple of minutes he stormed back in and sat down, staring angrily at the piece of floor in front of him before he spoke up once again. "So what the hell are we going to do?"
"Three hundred marks. We only have to pay three hundred marks," Simon sighs, rubbing his temples, "We still have the one-fifty that we stole, so we only really need to get three hundred more and we're clear good."
Simon slides further down the wall and lays himself onto the ground, using his arm as a pillow. The only thing he can think to do right now is sleep, hoping that this is some kind of nightmare or something and that it'll be over come morning. After a moment of thinking he gives a small smirk, having realized something good to have come from all this.
"Plus, I don't think our reputation is dead at all. We stole money from one of the Top Dogs here on our first day here, and we aren't even a gang... yet," He says, perking up slightly, "Let's just rest for tonight, we can figure out what to do tomorrow."
That isn't to say she did anything, in fact it was quite the opposite. She stood there in frozen shock and terror that could have mirrored a deer in the headlights of an automobile. She didn't speak, didn't move, and if Axel weren't in front of her he could have hardly even noticed her breathing. Where a somewhat assertive young woman had been now stood a wide-eyed child with posture so stiff it seemed unnatural.
She simply waited, waiting out the end of the tantrum; until he would quickly spin on his heel and return to his pacing, before she bent down to pick up her things and walk silently to the other side of the warehouse.
Axel sighed at the thought of that, they were better together then they were alone that was true. But could Axel say he trusted them wholeheartedly? They hadn't necessarily been untrustworthy as of late, but that was because they all shared a common goal. The words Simon said also lingered in his mind, that they weren't even a gang.. Yet. He wondered, could they ever become a gang? And if they somehow did manage to become one, would he forget about Illmori just like that? Just to be a criminal in Tineburgh? All these thoughts were shaking through his mind until his eyes finally managed to close and he drifted off to sleep.
Simon rolled himself over, facing the wall and closing his eyes. He wouldn't fall asleep for awhile, his head too full of half-formed ideas and plans to get himself out of this mess. He wondered if it was too late to just bail on Tineburgh and try to start up his search again somewhere else, but he knew he wasn't ready to leave yet. There were still things in this city he wanted to do, and he wouldn't be happy with himself if he left without finishing it.
It wasn't for another hour or so of this line of thinking before he fell asleep finally, letting these frantic and anxious thoughts flood his dreams instead. One thing was for certain, if they were going to be staying in the Warehouse then they definitely needed to make it more livable, maybe find something that could be used as bedding.
Piper had awoken early the next morning as per her routine to the sounds of the noisy streets outside.
"Five more minutes, d--" She began, before getting a good look at her surroundings.
Ah, right, she wasn't home, was she? She'd crashed in the woods, nearly died of asphyxiation, shot a man in the foot, robbed another at gunpoint, and had been beaten black and blue by a gang of thugs who were apparently theatre-lovers.
So really, her life was going to be wonderful from this point on.
She stood up with a grumble of pain, making her way to the other two as she could see the sun just beginning to peek through the windows. She kept a reasonable distance, cupping her hands around her mouth before shouting:
"RISE AND SHINE!"
He took a couple of deep breaths as he looked around and saw Piper standing in the distance with her hands cupped. He glared at her and pointed a finger at her "There is no worse pain then waking up to your voice." He spat though scratched the back of his head and calmed down, the flames receding back into him. Axel stretched out his body, his back still aching from where a boot was previously lodged into his spine. He groaned shaking his head "Another day, another problem." He said with a sigh plopping back down to a seat. "I am hungry."
He snorted at Axel's comment on how unpleasant it is to be woken up by Piper, the sound of it loud enough to wake himself up the rest of the way. He frowns, rolling back over and sitting himself up, deciding there was no use in trying to sleep in. Today was likely to be another long day, especially after last night. Simon sighs, feeling his own stomach as it growls.
"Yeah, well, tough luck," He quips, slightly grumpy from being woken up. Simon was not a morning person, "After yesterday, I don't think it'd be smart to rob anyone for food again... knowing our luck so far we'd probably get in debt to another gang."
She said as she dug into her pocket, pulling out a small bag of trail mix and popping a bit into her mouth. "Anything else on the agenda for today?"
"So if we don't end up robbing people, how are we going to come up with the money." He'd then turned to Piper as she spoke, raising a brow at her. "Look at you, I thought you didn't have a single bad bone in your body." he snorted though acknowledged the deal of robbing a shop as a whole. They'd be able to haul a lot more food if they did it properly, that would last them for a couple of days, not just for one meal. "Perhaps a shop isn't the worst idea."
While this was true, Simon knew that most of the ways they could make money weren't big enough. Robbing people and taking their money would take awhile, and he doubted that Val was willing to wait for long. Plus, with the threat of accidentally robbing the wrong person and getting into even more trouble, Simon wasn't sure if it was even worth it. There was always gambling, seeing as they did currently have one hundred and fifty marks. They could try and triple that themselves at one of the many gambling dens, but that wasn't a sure enough way to get money. They ran the risk of losing those marks as well, unless they could find a way to cheat.
"... And are you seriously suggesting robbing an entire store, Goggles? I thought you were the soft one around here," He chuckles, admittedly impressed with such a risky suggestion. Robbing an entire store for food? That felt like a bit of overkill to Simon, but the kind of overkill he could get behind.
Goddamnit.. it was the incident yesterday, wasn't it? She thought to herself, sighing as she realized that she'd have to make extra effort to keep from being seen as the 'soft one'.
"I do have a backbone, and I don't mean cleaning out an entire store. We just need enough food to last us for the week, since we can't afford to be spending money.. at all, really. We need to add that 150 marks to our storage and just keep going from there." She jabbed a finger into her opposite palm, trying to signify that she wasn't fucking around here.
"If we could get a few notes out of that as well, it wouldn't hurt."
Axel sighed trying to control his energy as his body slowly caught fire, there was so much energy pumping inside of him that he needed to do something with, he was practically bouncing up and down as he grew bored of sitting and talking. "Aer girl is right, or both of you or, I don't care let's get into action!"
Simon takes a deep breath, trying to clear his mind and think of what to do, "Well, no use sitting around, right? We've got an hour to kill before Pipes here said we should rob some joint for some food, so lets check out the Gambling District," He says with a sudden grin, happy to have thought of atleast something to do.
Without even waiting to hear their thoughts on the idea, Simon starts moving towards the door, running a hand through his tousled bed head. He passes by Piper on his way to leave, speaking to her in a quick whisper as he does.
"Sorry about the 'soft one' comment, didn't mean to hurt your feelings," He says in a hushed tone, the shit-eating grin on his face making it clear that he really isn't too sorry about the comment. He chuckles mischievously, bumping his shoulder into her rudely. Simon was still mad at Piper for trying to give back the money the other day, not to mention how easily she was taken hostage by Val. Sure, her giving back the money would have probably saved them some trouble, but it went directly against what Simon had told her to do, and Simon was not a fan of that.
"Trying to fight Val with no resources and no other 'gang' members wouldn't be advantageous. Even if we had those things, it's just not a good idea."
She began to think of a plan after going silent. Robbing a shop, how could they even manage that? A busy hour, she supposed. A diversion and a good sprinter. Those were all easy things to manage independently, the only difficult thing would be to put it all together without being arrested.
He rubbed his jaw as his thoughts began to race "Meaning, other criminals.. Probably just as hungry as we are.. What I'm trying to say is perhaps we should get some more sufficient weapons.. All we have is Aer girl's boom stick with no boom left and my uncontrollable energy. Aside from fists, if we run into anyone armed just enough we are easily overpowered.. Again." He shrugged his shoulders "I'll still crack their skull, but it is just a thought.. And not that I would be using any of your.. Machines.." He said a look of disgust coming over him as he said the last words "But there are certainly things to help channel my energy." He shrugged "But hey.. Then again, this might be a good chance to make some friends around the city.. Of course if they are elemental, and not disgusted by both of your faces upon seeing it." With that Axel finished his input raising his chin as he walked behind the two, hoping their bickering would resume.
"We don't need weapons, Axel. Not with strength like yours and genius like mine," Simon said without looking back, a wide and confident grin breaking out onto his face, his old mood returning, "If anyone messes with us, we'll send them packing. I'll either talk us out of it or you can fight us out of it."
Simon chuckled, walking along the side of the road towards the Gambling District. It would be a long walk, given that the Warehouse and the Gambling District were practically on opposite sides of the city. It'd leave them with plenty of time to chat as they walk, or they could spend it in a cold silence. Either way, Simon didn't care much, he had his mind on other things. One of the main reasons he wanted to go to the Gambling District was to check out the Wasp's Theater. Simon was intrigued by the powerful gangs that supposedly ran Lower Tineburgh, and he wanted to dig up as much info on them as he could. He thought it'd be useful to know more about these gangs, like where their territory begins and ends or how to spot them in a crowd.
She had struggled to keep the amused smile off her face when the boy had stumbled earlier. It was a petty revenge, but it had felt good nonetheless. A kind of small victory among all the gloom that had surrounded her for the past few days. "We will need weapons if we're going to be living on the streets. And speaking of which, when exactly is curfew?"
She continued walking after going silent after that last question. The gambling district could be interesting so long as they didn't do anything stupid.
But when had she ever trusted them not to do anything stupid?
Axel had to admit, though this was a hell of a lot of trouble, he was having a blast in Tineburgh. Right now, they were living without rules or restrictions, every day another day to prove themselves. He couldn't help the excitement to see more of these gangs, and what the criminal underworld of Tineburgh truly had to offer. There was a challenge to this, like there was a purpose to his days again, not just running and running in the forests. Sure being in debt sucked, and no food in his stomach was also a bitch. But he enjoyed the thought of knowing that there were two others just as hungry, and ready to do whatever it took to get the job done. And now since all three of them were in debt, he felt a small connection growing between them.
Axel spoke up from behind once more, "Oy.. I still do hate you both, but I meant what I said back there to Val.. I don't know about you two, but if I'm in this city I want to leave my name along with a fiery shit stain on it. And perhaps.. Perhaps we have what it takes is all I'm saying."
This was, of course, a load of shit, but Simon would never openly admit his own mistake to these two. If he can spin it to look like he made the right call, maybe he'll even be able to convince himself that everything is okay. Forming a gang definitely wasn't the reason he came, especially not forming a gang to control part of the city, but he didn't see why it couldn't help him reach his ultimate goal. Plus, the excitement radiating from Axel was getting to Simon, making him a little excited too.
"Yeah, I think we could do it, but we'd need more than just us. A lot more," Simon says, his cocky grin diminishing to just a satisfied smirk, "Especially if we want to try and be one of the 'Top Dogs', which, by the way, is a ridiculous name for the most powerful gangs in Lower Tineburgh."
