Physical Description: Kerwyn stands at 5'9, with a light, athletic frame. He is more agile than strong. His dark brown hair is usually cut short; face adorned with a neatly trimmed goatee. Everything he wears, from formal suits to shirt and jeans, are all tailored specifically to his measurements. As a result, he always looks like one of the most comfortable men around. Sure of himself, but not arrogant, he has an air of calmness and control. Usually this exudes out to the people around him.
Area of Expertise: Management. He is also an excellent pilot if needed. Really, he has a basic knowledge of most everything you need on the ship. A jack of all trades.
Secondary Skill: Information Systems/Technician work.
Personality: Kerwyn is a well-meaning, kind-hearted man. He has been dedicated to getting The Precipice out of the solar system. Deep down inside, he has never been satisfied with living in society. As much as exploration is fun to find unexplored land, he also wants to get away from it all. It takes a lot to anger him, but blunt disrespect will definitely earn his ire. Board games and reading are two of his favorite past-times. He is not wishy-washy on issues, he hits the nail on the head. If he wants something done he will tell you that straight up, not necessarily in a mean way, just a no nonsense way, which fits in with his stubborn work attitude.
Bio: The Precipice; this is definitely something Kerwyn James Argyle knows plenty about. All of his life he had high goals, always reaching for more. Perhaps he was slightly helped with the fact that, generations back, one of his family members was directly involved with the mass production of the first space freighters for the military. That event help forge centuries long connections and a trail of money that spiraled downward.
Kerwyn's father worked for the military as a civilian; built freighters for companies; be it for transportation of people or goods. Growing up in and around his dad's work, since his mom died conceiving him, he learned a lot about what the ships were built of, their architecture, how to navigate them, and how they worked. He wanted to work alongside his father and his friends, but they said he was too young. Kerwyn pestered them and bought favor by bringing them lunch and drinks until finally he was brought on. Eventually the luster of the job faded, but not his love for the ships. He learned the basics of all the work but never mastered it, because Argyle really wanted to pilot them; and that would eventually lead to even more.
During this time he had a string of bad relationships that ended in broken hearts, sometimes on both ends. Then he met Nikita, the love of his life, who got pregnant the day he passed his pilot's licensing at 21 years of age. The announcement came on the same day; this was one of his happiest moments. His father over the years had become the head of the manufacturing company he worked at. They spent less and less time together but were still just as close as they had always been.
Argyle shopped his piloting skills around and worked various jobs, from freighters to smaller loads. While successful in mostly every avenue, relationships with woman had not been kind to him. When it came to the fairer sex, impatience and unwillingness to listen to things other than his own success worked against him and the relationships crumbled. Now at the age of 82, which is practically late thirties to early forties with today's medical knowledge, he has had five divorces and three children. Kerwyn is actually coming off a divorce two months prior to the mission launch.
The Precipice is a labor of love. The Argyle family had tinkered with plans and specs for the ship forever, along with backing from other interested investors. Most of them had no interest in traveling out into the stars, but funding the production and getting a cut of the profits, that was enticing. Other involved parties is a need to know basis.
When putting together the crew, skill was a necessity, but he wanted people who felt enthused to get out and explore. If one were on board just for a paycheck, they better keep that to themselves, because he would gladly replace them. A few of the crew were already known to him, but he was no nepotist. He wanted a solid crew that could pull their weight, he wasn't taking friends and family on a vacation.
