Description

Image

Name: Alice Hirst

Age: 17

Gender: female

Height:5ft

Weight: 104lb

Personality: Although she looks shy and quiet, Alice is chatty and can sometimes be hyper. She does, however, know when to shut up and pay attention to things. Oddly enough, she enjoys quiet times as well, during which you would usually find her curled up with a book

Sexual Orientation: says she's straight, but is actually a little Bi-Curious

Skills: Puzzles, riddles. She also knows quite a few languages, including Japanese, Latin, French and Greek.

Flaws: Can sometimes get carried away and overthink things, making them more complicated than they are

Equipment: Her bag, which always contains a notepad with various pens (she likes to colour-code things), her phone, and whatever book she's been reading

Likes: Reading, puzzles. She loves talking to people, hence why she's learned so many languages. Also, she's a cat lover. Likes anything to do with the supernatural

Dislikes: People telling her she's wrong, or that she's overthinking things. Also, she hates not being able to figure things out

Fears: she's scared of dogs, and spiders. Anything to do with spiders.

Dreams: She wants to travel, and eventually, she wants to gather enough evidence to write a book which proves that ghosts exist

Background: Fairly normal, considering she grew up in the area around Bizenghast. Though it might explain her love for the supernatural, as well as her odd nature.

So begins...

Ah Bizenghast, such a small town. Not much goes on here, the town itself looks like it is in disrepair, an old fountain with four angels stands in the center of the town that no longer works. Some old houses stand in ruins, the town has tried to restore its former glory to attract tourists, but alas they never seem to be able to, from to short funding to freak electrical storms that take down the towns site.

There is one thing of note in the New England town. A rumor, a rumor of a second graveyard.

One article reads as such:

’Second Graveyard’ Theory still disputed.

Recent investigation into the town records of Bizenghast (a small mill city outside of Watertown) has left historians stymied, as a large number of death certificates officiated in the town between 1701 and 1950 do not match up to any of the plots in the residential graveyard.

This apparent lack of bodies to match the certificates was for a long time only the concern of local genealogists. Recently however… visitors from the nearby suburbs have begun to take long trips through the woods of Bizenghast on a quest to find what has now become known as Bizenghast’s graveyard an alleged second cemetery that historians claim must exist, in order to contain the missing bodies. To add to the confusion, many vistors to the antiquated town claim to have found the graveyard in the woods, only to mysteriously lose it again.

“my husband and I were out hiking in the woods when we found this enormous place, right in the middle of a field.” Maryann King told the Daily Eagle. “It was like a huge graveyard with really big towers that looked kind of like horses or something. We had no idea anyone was looking for it until we got back to town and asked the manager of the inn about it. We came back later with [sister] Joyce and [brother-in-law] Robert, but we could not find it again. We went right to the spot it was in, but it wasn’t there. And all the pictures I took came out overexposed.”

“I don’t want them anyhow,” added King. “That place gave me the creeps.”

Similar stories have appeared on the Internet, so many that the town of Bizenghast has promised to issue an official statement on its website, advising visitors not to enter the woods without a guide, as sudden cliffs and drop-offs near the coastline represent a risk of injury to inexperienced hikers. Unfortunately for the town, its remote location and unexplained electrical storms have taken the town’s official website down for months.
----

Such a graveyard could not exist right? And if it does why does it seem to vanish? Come and find out for yourself.

Vachel covered his ears as he heard the whispering again, why wouldn’t they just leave him alone?! “Shut up!” he cried out as he wrapped the blanket tighter around him. His eyes looking around the room to see if anything…out of place was there, the metal and odd bits and ends that he used for his craft was where they should be. A half twisted figure of what looked like a lanky giant was on his desk…as…no that was not as usual! He shut his eyes counting down from a hundred, maybe he should have taken his medicine…but he hated too! “They want to take me away…” he muttered as he clutched his pil bottle, his hands shaking.

He knew the doctor was coming to ‘evaluate’ him, but he did not want him to come! He did not want to move from the room at the moment. His mind racing as he bit his lip, help…he needed help maybe to get out of here! That way the doctor wouldn’t get him. He moved to his cord phone as he dialed Alices’ number, waiting for her to pick up as he tried to stop his tremors…the voices getting louder calling him stupid. “shut up, shut up, shut up…” he whispered softly over and over again.

Alice was in the middle of one of her puzzles when she heard the phone. That, however, posed a problem...Where was it? Glancing around, she realised that she'd have to clean her room at some point. She hadn't done so for a while...Well, she had a perfectly valid excuse. She didn't have time, between school and then tutoring Vachel, she was rarely in the house, so she just flung everything everywhere when she was in.

Frantically searching through the piles of clothes and books (mostly books), she eventually found her bag, the ringing noise coming from that kind of area. Success! She'd found it!

Oh...not so good..., he thought when she saw the caller id...It was Vachel.

"He must be freaking out again....", she sighed, reaching for it, "he usually does on an 'evaluation' day..."

She smiles a little, thinking about her friend, as she answers the phone, waiting for him to say something. She had learned to do that, to let him start the conversations, so he could get everything off his chest first, so she could help better.

Vachel heard the phone stop ringing, he knew Alice had picked up the phone which made him sigh in relief. “Alice it’s me…I mean you know it is me…” he muttered keeping an eye on the half twisted figure as it seemed to come closer, yet still stayed on his desk. He could now clearly see its skin was metal like, but still had veins…it’s teeth looked like it was made from broken shards of glass. He took a deep breath as he gripped the blanket that was around him like a cloak. “T-there is a thing in my room, a half twisted figure...made of metal, flesh and shards of glass...” he murmured as he shut his swamp blue green eyes.

“The doctor is coming today…I know he is. He is gonna ask me a lot of questions…ask if I have been taking that medicine…I can’t see him like this! I can’t…he will take me to an asylum and lock me up!” he cried out as he stopped, he heard multiple footsteps and voices…but he couldn’t discern if they were real or ‘real’. He assumed they were really happening as he started to whisper. “Can you come and get me? If…I am not here he won’t I didn’t take the drugs today…so he can’t be able to take me away…” he muttered as he got up and walked to his window looking out as he stumbled back taking a deep breath.

“Please…w-we can even go to the woods o-or wherever you want to go, but I can’t stay here.” he proclaimed. The voices grew louder. “SHUT UP!” he snapped over his shoulder as he sat back on his bed. “…Please Alice….” He whispered. “Y-you are one of the only people I can trust…” he added, his voice shaking a bit. He glanced at the figure on his desk as it continued to stare at him. “Please hurry…” he muttered as he clutched the phone to him, knowing he should let her speak instead of rambling on like he seemed to do.

Alice nodded ro herself, listening to him. Of course it would have been something like this. She had known that a doctor would be there at some point this week. She had heard Vachel's parents discussing it.

She took a deep breath before answering him,
¨...okay. I'll come get you. Gimmie fifteen minutes, kay?¨, she said, grabbing a few books off her desk and shoving them into her bag. Chances were, they'd be gone for a while.

She stayed on the phone as she ran out the house, so she could keep him calm until she got there, only hanging up when she got close to the wall.

¨..Vachel, I'm gonna have to hang up okay? I'm at the wall, and it's hard enough to climb wearing a dress, let alone holding a cellphone¨, she laughed a little, thinking of the many lolita-style dresses that she'd wrecked doing just that..

Vachel kept silent as he heard the deep breath and her words as he sighed in relief. “Okay…thank you Alice….” He whispered as he held onto the phone huddled in his blanket. Again he heard footsteps as he took a deep breath and held it. If his mom and step dad saw him like this he just knew they’d take him away. He didn’t even wish to think of what his step brother what do…he heard the door open as he shut his eyes pretending to be asleep, he heard movement in his room stopping at his bed. He gritted his teeth keeping his eyes shut as he felt something try to shove him, which made him open his eyes to see a monster by the side of his bed making him scream and the monster let out a demonic chuckle. Of course on the phone the laugh would sound like his step brother chortling. The monster was covered in scales and sores blood oozing out of its’ eye sockets.

Vachel watched in horror as the monster peeled off his face, blood dripping off, well in Vachels’ eyes, as it was revealed it was his stepbrother. “You are such a spaz! Getting freaked out about a Halloween mask!” He snapped as Vachel closed his eyes taking a deep breath as he felt….very, very angry. “GET OUT!” Vachel screamed out, forgetting for a moment that he still held the phone with Alice on the other side as he grabbed a lamp aiming to throw it at his step brother who only laughed and left, “By the way the doctor is coming, maybe this time you’ll be taken away!” he called out over his shoulder.

On the line a shattering sound of a lamp could be heard. He started to count down from a hundred when he heard Alice on the phone. “Why don’t you bring a rope with you?” he asked, to him that was the obvious solution to climbing the wall. He heard her hang up as he walked to the window and opened it looking down at Alice as she climbed, his muddy blond hair in front of his eyes a bit as he brushed that away. Alice, like all his friends, usually appeared as themselves when he was having a hit…perhaps with a slight change but nothing that truly scared him. He glanced at the ground below as he took a step back from the window he had seen weird skittering creatures all tendons and eyes.

Alice shoved her phone into her bag, focusing her energy on climbing. She had done this a million times, but the wall was old, some parts of it crumbling, so that each time she did this, she had to find other places to use as hand and footholds. It was just another puzzle...

Once she was over, she sprinted until she was level with Vachel's window.
¨The reason i don't bring rope is cos there's nowhere to tie it¨, she muttered, knowing he would hear it.
Looking up, she grinned at him.
¨The rescuer has arrived! Need a hand down?¨, she asked, knowing the answer would probably be a yes.

Vachel frowned as he looked at his window for a place to tie a rope and found she was correct. “…ladder…” he muttered, he would try to make a ladder for his next project, he’d have to get more odds and ends…but he would need to not be in a fit.

He grinned as he heard her call herself a rescuer, then he looked at the ground gulping a bit as he nodded. “…y-yeah I…” he sighed, before giving up on speaking and just nodded his head grabbing his art book and putting his pills in his pocket, just in case he decided to take them at some point today, he glanced at the roads seeing a red van…the doctors car he assumed as he let out a soft whimper, hopping on the window sill looking at Alice for help.

Vachel felt himself being helped from the window making sure he did not fall as he lightly held onto her. He stumbly followed after her as they reached the wall looking at it with a frown he had never really been a good wall climber, but when Alice pointed out the markings he smiled and nodded happily, “Thank-thank you.” He muttered, seeming a bit better now which usually happened when he was with his friends…they were like a catalyst to him. Sure he still saw and heard things…but he had his friends there to talk to and help him out! To protect him and rescue him from things like this.

Vachel started to climb slowly as he kept his eyes on the wall and it’s marks…not on the ground he could hear things moving and he did not want to know what. He sighed as he heard Alice, “he peeled his face off and blood poured down…” he muttered. “Step brother not related to him…wish he’d just leave me alone or die…” he muttered he stopped climbing as he looked at one of the marks seeing a spider crawl on I as he gulped and looked for the next mark…seeing it was in reach he leaned as far up as he could his fingers brushing against it as he tried to pull himself up and failed to do so remaining a bit stuck at the moment. He hated spiders.

Vachel felt her grab his hand as he pushed himself off the brick to help her pull him up as he sat on the wall edge. “Thanks…I…I hate spiders…things have more than six legs…just creep me out…spiders the most though…and…and centipedes.” He whispered as he looked down the wall, to him at the moment things looked…twisted. He shut his eyes as he started to count back from one hundred, a technique that Alice had taught him when he saw things. He blinked as he heard her voice. “They will find me if I stay in Bizenghast…but wouldn’t look for me in the woods…it is quiet there and the voices…maybe…maybe they won’t reach me there…” he commented, hoping that would be the case.

She nodded a little, and smiled at him. Coming up with that counting technique for him had been a good idea. She'd done a bit of research on schizophrenia and that had seemed to come up a lot. Give the 'patient' something to focus on.
Except in this case, he wasn't a patient, he was her friend.

At his request to go to the forest, she nodded again and quickly climbed down the wall.
"Okay, let's go then. Don't want the bad doctors catching you, do we?", she asked when she was back on the ground, holding her arms out, "If ya don't wanna climb, ya can just jump. I'll catch you, promise"
She grinned at him, hoping he'd trust her with this, like he did everything else?

Vachel watched as she climbed down the wall, a little amazed that she was able to do it that fast and in that dress. He nodded at that, “…I hate the doctors…why can’t they just leave me alone?” he muttered softly as he saw her hold her arms out. He glanced at the wall then at her. He really didn’t think he could climb down the wall…well not without her help! He let his feet dangle over the edge debating on what to do before he nodded and pushed himself off. He really hoped Alice would catch him…it wasn’t like he’d be severely injured if she didn’t but still, it would bruise him and cause him pain something he tried to avoid.

Alice laughed a little, easily catching him. Vachel really was too thin..good thing she'd brought food with her.

"Jeez..you really need to eat more, Vachel..you'll waste away if you don't. If the docs don't take you away for not taking your meds, they'll probably have you diagnosed as anorexic..", she scolded him once she'd put him down, only half joking this time.

She worried about him, maybe more than she should...She knew it would never come to anything anyway. Vachel wasn't interested in girls. It was something she'd figured out soon after she'd met him. Her worry for him was that of a friend, or maybe a sister, nothing more than that.

She sighed a little, they didn't have time for this.
"Come on, lets go before they find us..", she grabbed his hand again as she spoke, her tone still slightly annoyed.
As she was moving away, she suddenly came face to face with Nate.

"Come on Alice, don't bully him like that...If he doesn't want to eat, he doesn't have to", he sighed, watching them. He had come straight from school (since he was older than them, and so stayed later), and as such, was still in his uniform, his bag slung over one shoulder. He seemed relaxed, but to those who knew him, that was a pretence. He'd actually had a very bad day.

Alice noticed this, but pretended she didn't. If Nate was using the mask even with them, then it obviously wasn't something he wanted to talk about. Instead, she pouted, scuffing at the dirt with her toes

"I'm not bullying..it's just we're pressed for time.." she mumbled, to which Nate frowns, nodding

"I know, that's why I came over..the doctors, right?", he asked Vachel, figuring that it'd be best to include him.

Vachel felt himself being caught as he sighed in relief, he was glad she actually was able to catch him…he had been a bit worried that she would miss or drop him.

“I eat enough…I just…sculptures and drawing…plus I don’t know what is safe. I-I am not anorexic though! They can’t take me away for that…” he whispered a bit of fear in his voice as he was put down. He did try to eat more…it was just…he kept on forgetting. “They are gonna lock you away. You are such an idiot! You think they won’t notice the changes you have?” a voice rang out in his head. “Shut up…” he whispered as he clenched his fists.

He nodded eagerly when she said they should start moving, not wanting to be caught by the doctors or his parents. His eyes widened as he saw Nate, for a moment seeing his hair as fire as he stumbled back before the fire was extinguished and replaced with his normal red hair, looking at his uniform and the mask of calmness he was wearing. “Bad day?” he asked, not having the sense to keep his mouth shut.

“Alice isn’t bullying me, Nate.” He remarked, “There were voices and half twisted metal figures…and my brother peeling off his face.” He explained trying to make sense. He nodded his head at the mention of doctors. “Y-yes they can’t see me like this! They’d take me away and lock me up!” he cried out softly. “So we are going to the woods…they won’t look that far…they’d only explore Bizenghast.” He explained.

“Come on you can come too! Three is better than two… and we can hide out there.” He stated, hoping Nate would come…he had a crush on Nate, not that he ever thought he had a chance with him for all he knew Nate wasn’t even interested in him. “too ugly and stupid, doomed to be a failure all your life.” the voice hissed in Vachels’ head. “I told you to shut up!” he grumbled through gritted teeth.

The corner of Nate's eye twitched slightly when Vachel drew attention to how 'calm' he was, not wanting to discuss that at the moment. Still, he gave a small nod, agreeing to go to the woods with them
"Alright, sure I'll go...", he said, causing Alice to brighten up.

"Okay, that makes three. And as Vachel said, three is better than two", she was practically bouncing at the thought of Nate joining them. She liked Nate a lot, and often tried to flirt with him at school. She was always rejected of course, but that made her want to try harder. She didn't know that the older male already had his eye on someone else.

Letting Alice go ahead, since she knew the area better, Nate stayed behind with Vachel, his hands stuffed in his pockets. Once Alice was far enough away, he looked down at the smaller boy

"yes it was a bad day...but I don't want to discuss it right now, kay?", he muttered, just loud enough for Vachel to hear him

Vachel saw the corner of Nate’s eye twitch as he tilted his head, had he said something weird again? “did he not want it to be known?” he thought to himself. When he saw Nate give the nod he seemed to smile almost normally, though him glancing around at unseen things made that debatable.

“See I can make sense sometimes…just…” he drifted off as he looked at a tree seeing it mold and shape into something different causing him to tuck his head to his chest. “…go l-let’s go…” he muttered as he saw Alice walk on ahead causing him and Nate to be alone…well alonish, the thought would have made Vachel blush normally, but for now he was trying to get the skeletal tree out of his head. As well as it oozing green blood out of it’s maw.

He snapped out of it as he heard Nate, giving him a small nod of reassurance and understanding. “Won’t bring it up again unless wanted…and…t-thank you for coming.” He muttered to him, a hand in his pocket as he felt the pill bottle there, the loud voices now just whispers.

Nate gave a small smile when Vachel told him he wouldn't bring that up again, looking about at the surroundings. He'd only lived here for a few months, and though one might think that would be enough time to fully explore such a small town, that was wrong. It wasn't so much the town itself that took ages to explore, but rather the area around it. To completely understand that would take a lifetime.

He sighed a little, watching Alice ahead of them. She seemed to forget that neither himself or Vachel were natives of this place, while she had lived here her whole life. He'd have to tell her to slow down at some point...but not now. She would interrogate him too much about what had happened. Vachel wouldn't. Was a simple decision really.

Instead he looked down at Vachel again, bringing a few sketchpads out of his bag and handing them to him
"I got these from school for you..I figure you must be running out by now", he said, again giving that small half-smile.

Vachel gave a slight smile back to Nate seeing him look around as he did the same. Though his view of Bizenghast was…different right now. Things that weren’t there were occupying things that were so seamlessly to the boy that he couldn’t decipher what was what.

He turned his attention back to Alice, seeing how far ahead she was a frown on his face. How did she do that? She needed to slow down so he and Nate could keep up…he had only moved here a bit before Nate after all.

He was about to speak up when he heard Nate rummaging in his bag and turned to look up at him. As the sketchpads were handed to him he grinned widely. “T-thanks! I…finished my last one yesterday.” He said as he took the sketch pads and put them in his bag. Many of his drawings depended if he took his medicine or not, when he was on them they were mostly cheerful a few were of his friends. Off they were of what he saw, most dark and twisted, something that would be found in nightmares.

Nate smiled at Vachel, amused by his reaction to the simple gift. To be honest, all it had taken was for him to get a kid from a lower year to grab a few extra for him. It was no big deal really, but the younger boy seemed happy at least. That was what mattered in the end.

In front of them, Alice came to a stop, glancing behind her, noticing how far away the boys were. Right...she'd forgotten that they didn't know the area as well as she did.

Sighing a little, she put her hands on her hips, waiting for them to catch up
"Come on guys...thought we were in a hurry?" she moaned, clearly annoyed now. Something that wasn't lost on Nate, who sighed, pushing his glasses up his nose, a habit of his when he was annoyed.

"Alright, alright...we're coming..", he muttered, taking Vachel's hand, not thinking the gesture was weird. In a way, it felt normal, as if Vachel was a younger brother. At least...that's what he was going to keep telling himself..

Vachel was about to thank Nate again when he heard Alice hearing how annoyed she was and seeing Nate push up his glasses, his own sign of annoyance. He looked between them, “C-calm and quiet…please.” He whispered to them as he heard Nates’ muttering, feeling his hand being engulfed by the older mans as his face gained a shade of pink to it.

He remained quiet as they caught up to Alice, “S-sorry…don’t know this place as well as you…mainly stay in my room.” He explained to her, still having his hand in Nates’. Though he soon saw something that caught his eye as he dashed forward climbing on top of a rock as he gasped. “Not…seeing this am I?” he called back to them, in front of him was a wreckage of what appeared to be an old stage coach and in the distant almost something that appeared to be a grand cathedral and mausoleum. Though Vachel didn’t see that just yet he was busy looking at the wonderful bits and ends of the wreckage from discarded cloth to photo frames. He could actually touch them and pick them up! It was real! Yet why would this be here?
