Description

Image

Name: Nate Ramsey

Age: 18

Gender: male

Height: 5ft 6in

Weight: 110lb

Personality: most would expect Nate to have a short temper, due to his hair, but in reality he's the opposite. Calm and analytical, almost to the point of being cold, though has a soft spot for his friends, the few that he has

Sexual Orientation: he attempts to hide it to save his rep at school, but he has known he is gay since he was about 13

Skills: anything which require numbers, or memorisation. Is oddly enough, good at music, since the notes are easy to remember. His chosen instrument is the violin.

Flaws: he isn't so good with emotions, and struggles to express himself at times.

Equipment: usually a notepad, for the few things that he can't memorise, along with his iPod

Likes: His music, numbers, and weirdly, school

Dislikes: getting sick, people teasing him for his red hair and glasses

Fears: being around large groups, and small spaces

Dreams: To play as part of an orchestra

Background: Moved to Bizenghast from England, and met Alice at school, who then in turn introduced him to Vachel.

So begins...

Ah Bizenghast, such a small town. Not much goes on here, the town itself looks like it is in disrepair, an old fountain with four angels stands in the center of the town that no longer works. Some old houses stand in ruins, the town has tried to restore its former glory to attract tourists, but alas they never seem to be able to, from to short funding to freak electrical storms that take down the towns site.

There is one thing of note in the New England town. A rumor, a rumor of a second graveyard.

One article reads as such:

’Second Graveyard’ Theory still disputed.

Recent investigation into the town records of Bizenghast (a small mill city outside of Watertown) has left historians stymied, as a large number of death certificates officiated in the town between 1701 and 1950 do not match up to any of the plots in the residential graveyard.

This apparent lack of bodies to match the certificates was for a long time only the concern of local genealogists. Recently however
visitors from the nearby suburbs have begun to take long trips through the woods of Bizenghast on a quest to find what has now become known as Bizenghast’s graveyard an alleged second cemetery that historians claim must exist, in order to contain the missing bodies. To add to the confusion, many vistors to the antiquated town claim to have found the graveyard in the woods, only to mysteriously lose it again.

“my husband and I were out hiking in the woods when we found this enormous place, right in the middle of a field.” Maryann King told the Daily Eagle. “It was like a huge graveyard with really big towers that looked kind of like horses or something. We had no idea anyone was looking for it until we got back to town and asked the manager of the inn about it. We came back later with [sister] Joyce and [brother-in-law] Robert, but we could not find it again. We went right to the spot it was in, but it wasn’t there. And all the pictures I took came out overexposed.”

“I don’t want them anyhow,” added King. “That place gave me the creeps.”

Similar stories have appeared on the Internet, so many that the town of Bizenghast has promised to issue an official statement on its website, advising visitors not to enter the woods without a guide, as sudden cliffs and drop-offs near the coastline represent a risk of injury to inexperienced hikers. Unfortunately for the town, its remote location and unexplained electrical storms have taken the town’s official website down for months.
----

Such a graveyard could not exist right? And if it does why does it seem to vanish? Come and find out for yourself.

She nodded a little, and smiled at him. Coming up with that counting technique for him had been a good idea. She'd done a bit of research on schizophrenia and that had seemed to come up a lot. Give the 'patient' something to focus on.
Except in this case, he wasn't a patient, he was her friend.

At his request to go to the forest, she nodded again and quickly climbed down the wall.
"Okay, let's go then. Don't want the bad doctors catching you, do we?", she asked when she was back on the ground, holding her arms out, "If ya don't wanna climb, ya can just jump. I'll catch you, promise"
She grinned at him, hoping he'd trust her with this, like he did everything else?

Alice laughed a little, easily catching him. Vachel really was too thin..good thing she'd brought food with her.

"Jeez..you really need to eat more, Vachel..you'll waste away if you don't. If the docs don't take you away for not taking your meds, they'll probably have you diagnosed as anorexic..", she scolded him once she'd put him down, only half joking this time.

She worried about him, maybe more than she should...She knew it would never come to anything anyway. Vachel wasn't interested in girls. It was something she'd figured out soon after she'd met him. Her worry for him was that of a friend, or maybe a sister, nothing more than that.

She sighed a little, they didn't have time for this.
"Come on, lets go before they find us..", she grabbed his hand again as she spoke, her tone still slightly annoyed.
As she was moving away, she suddenly came face to face with Nate.

"Come on Alice, don't bully him like that...If he doesn't want to eat, he doesn't have to", he sighed, watching them. He had come straight from school (since he was older than them, and so stayed later), and as such, was still in his uniform, his bag slung over one shoulder. He seemed relaxed, but to those who knew him, that was a pretence. He'd actually had a very bad day.

Alice noticed this, but pretended she didn't. If Nate was using the mask even with them, then it obviously wasn't something he wanted to talk about. Instead, she pouted, scuffing at the dirt with her toes

"I'm not bullying..it's just we're pressed for time.." she mumbled, to which Nate frowns, nodding

"I know, that's why I came over..the doctors, right?", he asked Vachel, figuring that it'd be best to include him.

Vachel felt himself being caught as he sighed in relief, he was glad she actually was able to catch him
he had been a bit worried that she would miss or drop him.

“I eat enough
I just
sculptures and drawing
plus I don’t know what is safe. I-I am not anorexic though! They can’t take me away for that
” he whispered a bit of fear in his voice as he was put down. He did try to eat more
it was just
he kept on forgetting. “They are gonna lock you away. You are such an idiot! You think they won’t notice the changes you have?” a voice rang out in his head. “Shut up
” he whispered as he clenched his fists.

He nodded eagerly when she said they should start moving, not wanting to be caught by the doctors or his parents. His eyes widened as he saw Nate, for a moment seeing his hair as fire as he stumbled back before the fire was extinguished and replaced with his normal red hair, looking at his uniform and the mask of calmness he was wearing. “Bad day?” he asked, not having the sense to keep his mouth shut.

“Alice isn’t bullying me, Nate.” He remarked, “There were voices and half twisted metal figures
and my brother peeling off his face.” He explained trying to make sense. He nodded his head at the mention of doctors. “Y-yes they can’t see me like this! They’d take me away and lock me up!” he cried out softly. “So we are going to the woods
they won’t look that far
they’d only explore Bizenghast.” He explained.

“Come on you can come too! Three is better than two
and we can hide out there.” He stated, hoping Nate would come
he had a crush on Nate, not that he ever thought he had a chance with him for all he knew Nate wasn’t even interested in him. “too ugly and stupid, doomed to be a failure all your life.” the voice hissed in Vachels’ head. “I told you to shut up!” he grumbled through gritted teeth.

The corner of Nate's eye twitched slightly when Vachel drew attention to how 'calm' he was, not wanting to discuss that at the moment. Still, he gave a small nod, agreeing to go to the woods with them
"Alright, sure I'll go...", he said, causing Alice to brighten up.

"Okay, that makes three. And as Vachel said, three is better than two", she was practically bouncing at the thought of Nate joining them. She liked Nate a lot, and often tried to flirt with him at school. She was always rejected of course, but that made her want to try harder. She didn't know that the older male already had his eye on someone else.

Letting Alice go ahead, since she knew the area better, Nate stayed behind with Vachel, his hands stuffed in his pockets. Once Alice was far enough away, he looked down at the smaller boy

"yes it was a bad day...but I don't want to discuss it right now, kay?", he muttered, just loud enough for Vachel to hear him

Vachel saw the corner of Nate’s eye twitch as he tilted his head, had he said something weird again? “did he not want it to be known?” he thought to himself. When he saw Nate give the nod he seemed to smile almost normally, though him glancing around at unseen things made that debatable.

“See I can make sense sometimes
just
” he drifted off as he looked at a tree seeing it mold and shape into something different causing him to tuck his head to his chest. “
go l-let’s go
” he muttered as he saw Alice walk on ahead causing him and Nate to be alone
well alonish, the thought would have made Vachel blush normally, but for now he was trying to get the skeletal tree out of his head. As well as it oozing green blood out of it’s maw.

He snapped out of it as he heard Nate, giving him a small nod of reassurance and understanding. “Won’t bring it up again unless wanted
and
t-thank you for coming.” He muttered to him, a hand in his pocket as he felt the pill bottle there, the loud voices now just whispers.

Nate gave a small smile when Vachel told him he wouldn't bring that up again, looking about at the surroundings. He'd only lived here for a few months, and though one might think that would be enough time to fully explore such a small town, that was wrong. It wasn't so much the town itself that took ages to explore, but rather the area around it. To completely understand that would take a lifetime.

He sighed a little, watching Alice ahead of them. She seemed to forget that neither himself or Vachel were natives of this place, while she had lived here her whole life. He'd have to tell her to slow down at some point...but not now. She would interrogate him too much about what had happened. Vachel wouldn't. Was a simple decision really.

Instead he looked down at Vachel again, bringing a few sketchpads out of his bag and handing them to him
"I got these from school for you..I figure you must be running out by now", he said, again giving that small half-smile.

Vachel gave a slight smile back to Nate seeing him look around as he did the same. Though his view of Bizenghast was
different right now. Things that weren’t there were occupying things that were so seamlessly to the boy that he couldn’t decipher what was what.

He turned his attention back to Alice, seeing how far ahead she was a frown on his face. How did she do that? She needed to slow down so he and Nate could keep up
he had only moved here a bit before Nate after all.

He was about to speak up when he heard Nate rummaging in his bag and turned to look up at him. As the sketchpads were handed to him he grinned widely. “T-thanks! I
finished my last one yesterday.” He said as he took the sketch pads and put them in his bag. Many of his drawings depended if he took his medicine or not, when he was on them they were mostly cheerful a few were of his friends. Off they were of what he saw, most dark and twisted, something that would be found in nightmares.

Nate smiled at Vachel, amused by his reaction to the simple gift. To be honest, all it had taken was for him to get a kid from a lower year to grab a few extra for him. It was no big deal really, but the younger boy seemed happy at least. That was what mattered in the end.

In front of them, Alice came to a stop, glancing behind her, noticing how far away the boys were. Right...she'd forgotten that they didn't know the area as well as she did.

Sighing a little, she put her hands on her hips, waiting for them to catch up
"Come on guys...thought we were in a hurry?" she moaned, clearly annoyed now. Something that wasn't lost on Nate, who sighed, pushing his glasses up his nose, a habit of his when he was annoyed.

"Alright, alright...we're coming..", he muttered, taking Vachel's hand, not thinking the gesture was weird. In a way, it felt normal, as if Vachel was a younger brother. At least...that's what he was going to keep telling himself..

Vachel was about to thank Nate again when he heard Alice hearing how annoyed she was and seeing Nate push up his glasses, his own sign of annoyance. He looked between them, “C-calm and quiet
please.” He whispered to them as he heard Nates’ muttering, feeling his hand being engulfed by the older mans as his face gained a shade of pink to it.

He remained quiet as they caught up to Alice, “S-sorry
don’t know this place as well as you
mainly stay in my room.” He explained to her, still having his hand in Nates’. Though he soon saw something that caught his eye as he dashed forward climbing on top of a rock as he gasped. “Not
seeing this am I?” he called back to them, in front of him was a wreckage of what appeared to be an old stage coach and in the distant almost something that appeared to be a grand cathedral and mausoleum. Though Vachel didn’t see that just yet he was busy looking at the wonderful bits and ends of the wreckage from discarded cloth to photo frames. He could actually touch them and pick them up! It was real! Yet why would this be here?

Alice ran to catch up with Vachel, concerned about him, until she saw for herself what he was excited about.

"Wow! This is so cool!", she squealed, taking a closer look at the items. It was a weird mix of stuff, and for a moment she thought that maybe she was hallucinating as well. Once she'd lifted one of the discarded photo frames though, she realised that was wrong. Plus, when she looked over to Nate, who had lifted a few pages of what looked like sheet music, the fact that he'd done that sort of proved it was all real.

Nate, however, was puzzled. Mainly by the sheet music he was holding. He'd never come across this before, the notes seemed to be placed randomly, yet in his head they at least made something resembling a piece of music. One that he could adapt to his own needs...if only he'd had a music lesson today, he'd have his violin with him.

Alice watched him for a while, amused by how focused he seemed. It was funny, watching him when he was in a state like this. He did this a lot, and when it happened, you could probably set a bomb off beside him, and he'd be oblivious to everything.

Vachel grinned, “I am not seeing things?!” he was more happy about that then the things that were around as he picked up a broken wheel. “So many bits and ends
” he whispered as he picked up a broken metal rod looking at it briefly before tossing it picking up a necklace on a thin gold chain it appeared to be a Victorian locket.

He looked at Nate seeing him with a sheet of paper as he walked on over looking at it as he saw sheet music. Since he couldn’t read it he shrugged and wandered further away from them closer to the cathedral though
it was a bit scary. He had a bad feeling about this.

He stayed at the edge of it looking at the grave stones many very
odd looking from angels with a birdcage rib to hooded angel seeming to be guarding double doors that led down somewhere.

Getting bored with watching Nate, Alice goes over to Vachel, curious about the doors as well.

"You think they open?", she asked, pushing at one of the doors. Of course, they wouldn't open, causing her to sigh
"well...that answers that question", she muttered, pouting.

It was when Alice kicked at the door that Nate looked up, wondering what the noise was, wandering over, stuffing the sheet music into his bag.

"What's this?", he looked to them both, genuinely curious. He'd seen cathedrals and mausoleums before, obviously, but he'd never seen any like this back home

Vachel was about to reply when Rachel started pushing on the door. Well it seemed they didn’t open with a push. He was thinking about how to get it open when she started kicking at the door. “S-stop. Loud.” He complained as he covered his ears.

He heard Nate as he shrugged. “Mausoleum?” he offered before he took the edge of the door and pulled on it, hearing it creak open as he looked at the darkness. He looked
scared, but he’d go down if someone was with him. He looked up at Nate and Alice. “S-should we? I mean....dark.” he asked them softly.

Alice grinned, nodding

"Of course we should! I mean, they'll never find us here, right?", she asked, clearly excited at the prospect of exploring.

Nate however, wasn't so sure about this. It might be dangerous, and he'd heard stories back home of old buildings collapsing. This mausoleum looked older than any building than he'd ever seen.
Despite this, Alice didn't seem to be bothered, grabbing both Nate's and Vachel's hands, tugging at them

"Come on, come on!", she squealed, pulling them down the steps. Nate didn't resist: as much as he was worried about this, he was sort of curious as well. That and the fact that he'd learned the hard way that going against Alice was a very bad idea...

Vachel heard Alices’ words, there was sense in them of course, but
he had a really bad feeling about this. The boy looked scared in fact.

He looked at Nate for the voice of reason, it seemed though that he wasn’t saying anything as his hand was grabbed by Alice, it seemed she had decided for them, something that Vachel was not too happy about as he tried to wriggle out of her grip as they were led down the stairs.

The underground area was dimly lit, Vachel managing to wriggle out of Alices’ grip as he spied some writing on the wall that he murmured outloud, his voice echoing in the chamber.

“ In the stone towers four,
Hooded watcher at each door,
Ad in the alcoves
Threescore,
Let us be.

Behind glass walls
We wait, on our deeds
Meditate,
Until some luck or fate,
Sets us free.

May you never try to find,
What is hidden behind,
But if you’re still of that mind,
Look and see.

To know what lies untold,
In chambers grown cold,
Let each riddle unfold,
To find each key.
” he frowned at that turning to the others as his hand lightly brushed against an engraving of a key underneath it making a small clicking noise as a wall moved revealing what appeared to be a contract. “W
what is going on?” he asked as he walked to the two. The contract read as such:

Having entered the Sunken Mausoleum and activated this contract, Vachel does hereby agree to be owned body and soul. Until such time as this Mausoleum’s vaults are emptied of captive spirits. Or by the Vachel’s sudden death, whichever comes first.

Underneath it was his signature. Vachel frowned. “I
I am seeing things right?! Please
.I have to be seeing things.” He begged as he clutched at Nate’s hand.

Vachel kept his hand in Nates’ as he heard Alice. “T-That is my signature
H-how would they know my signature?” he asked as he bit his bottom lip a bit, fear in voice. He heard the sound of skittering, scraping of
what sounded like a giant bug, he looked up seeing a port slowly open. Eyes peering out of it, causing Vachel to stumble back, “I-I am not
seeing things am I?” he acked.

Before he could answer a figure crawled on out. “Hello Vachel, Nate, and Alice. We have been waiting for you for a long time.” She said her voice slightly raspy. “Bali-Lali is so pleased to meet you all!” Vachel clutched onto Nate, “Make it go away
” he whispered to Nate and Alice. “Not going away anytime soon, Vachel.” Bali-Lali told him. “W-what do you want?” he asked, his voice trembling. He thought spiders were bad, but this
this was much worse! “Vachel used the key and thus signed our contract. Vachel belongs to the Sunken Mausoleum now. Vachel is owned.” Bali-Lali explained slowly lowering down on silken thread. “Those that are owned. Do our work for us. Then they can go.”
