Physical Description
An athletic type body for a girl who is always on the move, she is long and slender and with ligaments that have incredible flexibility. God has unfortunately not given Kou the ideal chest type for a gymnast as in her words her boobs are "too big." Kou has hair that is raven black, it is incredibly dark but in sunlight can sometimes appear navy. Her eyes are a watery gray with pasty flecks of blue adorning the middle. Her skin is fair and rarely tans, but doesn't burn either. Kou's lips are a creamy pink and when she presses them together they become red rather then white.
Kou does not eat much and so there is not much fat on her body, but she isn't bony either. Some would say she has the ideal figure for a women but Kou has never thought so. She has always believed her looks were a curse that attracted the exact attention she doesn't want. She would rather be known for her amazing staff wielding skills than for her killer curves.

"Don't ask me for any favors."

Personality
Brave | Loyal | Fierce | Snappy | Proud
Kou is a very.... Interesting girl to say the least, she pretends to be uninterested in everything and everyone but is really observing, making sure she has an exit and an escape plan; unfortunately it is what she has had to do to survive. Kou is a very sweet girl who has been taken advantage of one too many times, she has closed herself off to those around her and no longer shows her kind side believing that kindness is the equivalent to weakness. She isn't picky and if you give her something to eat and a place to sleep she will consider you an ally.

Likes

Dislikes
Traitors | Liars | Controlling People | Chocolate | Being Insulted

Habits
She bites her lower lip when thinking | Checking over her shoulder | Pacing

Flaws
Lacks social skills | Kou has a hard time staying in one place | There is a spot on her back that if you touch, she will collapse; it is her "off" button.

Abilties | Powers
Three seemingly random abilities have been bestowed upon Kou, the first and most complicated being Blood Manipulation. She can manipulate her's and others blood, Kou can stop the flow, weaponize it, and kill you from the inside.

The second of her abilities is Energy Usage, she can make barriers and shoot energy that comes from within her, barriers can be all sizes and take all different forms. It takes a lot out of her to make big ones though and the more energy she uses the longer it has to recharge.

Kou's third and final ability is Teleportation. With just a poof of gray mist she can disappear, however this ability comes and goes and sometimes Kou will teleport without meaning to. If she sneezes it can activate, when she's in the shower she'll suddenly find herself in Alaska. Kou can transport others with this ability, but they must be touching her, if they let go they can got lost in the in-between.

"The world is hard to change, it is much easier to shape it to your liking."

Romantic Interest
None, she doesn't really think about love and romance.

Character Opinions
Yuuto || To Kou he seems just a tad childish and vain, he holds himself in high regard but she doesn't think he is the mighty fox demon he pretends to be. His ears are cute though, they make him more tolerable somehow.
Akiko || She doesn't hate Akiko although she isn't particularly fond of being controlled, she knows Akiko is under orders and most likely is not possessing Kou's body for fun. If she was that would be sick and Kou would probably hate her.
Midora || He's a problem, at least to Kou he is. She doesn't take well to being ordered around, especially by someone younger than her.

History
Kou was not born, she simply came into existence, an anomaly in a world that considers things that are different "broken," she was never accepted by anyone. That is until the monks came along and adopted her into their temple. She learned patience and survival, how to wield a staff, how to bring peace. However the lifestyle did not suit her as she was a bit of a trouble maker from the start. They named her "Kou" for the great Buddhist Priestess from Nara. They recognized her as a beast of the Underworld, but they also saw the light in Kou. She, however, did not believe she could be good after learning about her heritage and although she did her best, trouble followed Kou wherever she went. Her terrible deeds attracted the attention of the two deities; Hachiman and Izanami. Kou fled from the Temple as They fought over her, each wanting to recruit the demon for their own agendas. In the end she escaped both but was soon captured by one of Hachiman's men. Kou was forced to work as War's errand girl, taking care of Hachiman's dirty work. She slowly moved up the ranks and went from taking orders to giving them and eventually Kou was sent on a very important mission to take a relic from Izanagi's garden. It was a suicide mission and Kou was mortally wounded. Hachiman knew the risks and so he asked Suijin, the deity of Water to suspend Kou in ice until her body could heal itself.
Nearly a thousand years later, in the period of 1908, Kou awoke.
Believing she was finally free, Kou attempted to leave the shrine of Suijin, but as she crossed the property line the Deity appeared and informed Kou that the deal he struck with Hachiman stated that she had to take care of the shrine for another ten years after her recovery. So Kou stayed and worked, sweeping the grounds and replanting lilies by the pond and when there wasn't work to do she practiced with her spirit sword or worked on using her abilities.
After her contract ended, Kou fled the shrine like it was on fire. A shrine maiden no more, her demon markings reappeared and she was free to do as she liked. At least until she met him. He was a handsome fellow, a Mage, and spotted Kou from a mile away. He stole her away from the shrine in Kyoto and took her to Hokaido, where WW2 was beginning to show it's face in the form of ration stamps and nuclear bombs.
Kou did everything in her power to escape the Mage, but he was powerful and had influence with high ranking people. She wasn't that old for a demon and because of the suspended animation, Kou was half the size she was supposed to be. But if the Monks had taught her one thing, it was patience and so Kou waited. It was almost a year before she found an opening in the form of a party.
Nizumi-chan fled through the back entrance of the large estate and went into hiding. She only ever went into town when she needed something and it worked at first, but eventually Kou's plan back fired when the hood of her jacket slipped off and her markings were visible. Kou was chased out of town with a showering of rocks and sticks.
It was another fifty years of isolation before she decided to check on the outside world and see if they had destroyed themselves. Kou traveled for two weeks to reach the edge of Tokyo and was shocked by the culture change. She felt like a child that had wandered into a candy shop, everything was shiny and new. People wore odd hair styles and bore markings on their bodies. No one was being ridiculed for being different! Now the size of a seventeen year old, Kou was not afraid of standing out and took off her jacket. Several people stopped to compliment her on her "tattoos" and although she had no idea what they were talking about, Kou thanked them and moved on. She got a job, bought an apartment, and lived a normal life for about a year until she was taken in by police for ditching school and tried to explain to them she hadn't been to school since she left the Monks' Temple nearly two thousand years ago.
They freaked out and sent Kou right to Survival Kit Academy where her freedom was once again, stolen from her.

Other
Her demon markings are interesting to look at, they begin at her heels and travel up the back of her legs to the small of her back. From there it spreads in a pattern up Kou's spine and to her neck where it finishes off with a swirl. Her tattoos used to resemble black flames but over time they have thinned out and now look more like vines with thorns that travel up her body. The markings spread when she uses her abilities and change depending on which one.

The morning was slowly passing as the first day of the new year at The Survival Kit Academy was just beginning. Most students were already making their way to their classes and once again, like every year, there was a new batch of mages and demons just waiting to be dealt with. This task always fell onto one person especially to handle.

There stood a particular woman with hair that seemed to embody the essence of fire, with her body tilted ever-so-slightly at an angle before her hips swayed casually to her own personal rhythm. A look of both keenness and daring curiosity bore knowingly upon her curved face, a frightening smirk laying evident on her lips as her pinky orbs gazed intriguingly over the many heads that were grouped before her. Well, what a crowd we got this year.

Within the classroom there was a desk sat in front of her, the woman tapped repeatedly against the hard surface as her eyes exchanged glances between a piece of paper that was held firmly in her hand and the youthful heads that bobbed about in front of her. "Looks like we got everyone -- what luck. Things be already looking up for us." She spoke softly yet boldly with a nod of her head. Confidence radiating from her ever word. And yet, despite the outwardly impression she presumably gave Iris was no fool. She knew that the vast majority of juvenile stares was anything but thrilled to be within her presence, those feeling that way were most likely the demons, she assumed.

"Alrighty. Listen up closely boys and girls, as today is the first chance you get to work in your groups. Even though today is your first ever day here and all, I find that throwing students into the deep end is always guaranteed to produce some
interesting results. With that said, you will be designated teachers to supervise your group, ok?"

Then she remembered, "Oh. The last remainder of your belongings have been sent to your dorms directly."

Pursing her lips together in a momentarily brief thought the young woman glanced towards one of the few windows within the classroom, her ponytail swishing sharply, as her head tilted to the side. "Your teachers will be waiting outside at the academy‘s entrance for you, please make your way directly to them. You all know who your teacher is and what groups your in, though if in doubt just check the papers you were given prior to this induction. They will inform you of your teammates, teacher, and everything else." Slowly refocusing her attention onto the students she continued, ”And by the looks of it lucky group five has me as their supervising teacher -- what fun.”

Moving away from the desk the fiery haired female took a few steps closer towards the rows of students, before raising a hand and pointing the tip of her finger in the direction towards the door. ”I assume you all know how to get to the entrance, right? Now, this will be your first group exercise, so don't blow it -- just yet. You have a whole year to go. Catch you later!” With that the red head skipped over to the door and pushed it open wide, allowing herself to exist first before continuing on and making her way towards the entrance of the academy to meet the teachers.

✼ Baron Weatherbee ✼

Image

Baron stood with a rather absentminded gaze filling her reddish orbs. She had been waiting idly at the academy’s entrance beside her fellow teachers; Mr. Kurayami, Miss. Bombardier and Mr. Alignak. The headmistress had specifically asked each of them to be at the entrance to greet their groups before watching over those students under their particular care. Such a thought made the short girl a tad bit nervous.

”I wander what kind of students I will be tasked with.” The young girl spoke with a curious tone, asking no one in particular except perhaps herself. It was open knowledge that the girl hadn’t been at the academy long, if anything, she was the rookie teacher who felt she had to prove herself a little.

Glancing upwards, the pale blonde looked to the clear sky that hung above her. She watched the clouds floating along before witnessing some birds soar overhead. I hope I get along with my students like birds get along with each other. They stick together. Will my students feel the same? Directing her eyes to the ground for a moment, the girl let out a tired sigh, before eying up her colleagues. To her, they seemed much more experienced.

Could she match them? Equal them? She was still young though eager to better herself.

Of course, just as her time at the academy was knowingly short, a bit like herself, her demon and mage in-heritage was also freely known to much of the students and staff. Baron was always getting questioned on her past, why she was a mix-bred, what her intentions are towards mages and demons, and lord knows what-else. She doesn't mind the hoards of questions so long as they are in good taste -- not everyone is as accepting, but that is a small majority.

Raising an arm halfway she glanced at her watch before turning to the other teachers. ”The induction will be finishing soon and the students should be making their way to us. The headmistress said she would inform us of what exactly the exercise entails once everyone is here. Everyone remember their groups?”

A short while later the headmistress in question arrived and greeted her staff. As a sign of innocent affectation she ruffled the small girls hair just a little, causing Baron to huff and fiddle with her blonde tangles, whilst Iris began to address the teachers and fill them in on what the group exercise would exactly be. "Righty-o! Ladies and gents. You know I thought long and hard over this, and I figured a group exercise of this nature was right up the students alley. We need to know what their made of, who's really in need of help and who's going to be a handful -- you get the idea." She began, moving her hands to her hips before continuing, and taking a deep breath beforehand.

"With permission from the locals I have set up five loose doppelgÀngers in the town nearby, with each team expected to handle one between them. You, teachers, will watch over them and see how they handle it. The groups must form a strategy and plan to win. If it seems unlikely they can defeat the creature I expect you to deal with it."

Taking a step back the red head stood and waited for the arrival of the students. She could hardly wait, the joy of informing their little minds of the fun she had planned for them. "Let the fun begin."

The day started in an abnormal way, there were no handcuffs on Kou's wrists when she awoke in her cell at the Maximum Security Prison. It was odd being able to rub the raw skin on her arms. "That's different," she mumbled and stood up from the thin mattress, the springs creaking underneath her as she put weight on her shaky feet. "Ready to go?" A gruff voice came from between the metal bars. The white wash walls felt like they were closing in as Kou realized what day it was.

Her things were handed to her in a bag as she exited the cell and Kou was allowed time in the bathroom to get changed. Kou put on a pair of black jean shorts and zipped up her white jacket before tugging on a pair of black combat boots. She exited the restroom quickly and went to the door, eager to taste freedom if only for a few seconds before she would be under the control of some Mage.

The sun was warm on her face, the wind blowing tousling her shoulder length black hair with ease. Kou smiled as she was led to the vehicle that would take her to the Survival Kit Academy, she wasn't looking forward to this in the least bit, but at least she would get meals that weren't prison food and a bed that was better than a cave floor. "Don't get too comfortable," the officer warned as he turned up the AC. "The ride is only about ten minutes." But Kou couldn't help it, the AC and the plush chairs were so nice that she fell asleep in about thirty seconds and woke up when the car went into park.

Upon exiting the vehicle the officer handed Kou her staff and told her to not get into any trouble. "No promises," Kou replied and went to check in. She looked at the list of people and decided that trying to get to her dorm would be too much trouble, so she dropped her bag by the others and went to sit in the on the quad until they had to gather for a meeting in one of the classrooms. Kou sprawled onto the grass, staff in hand and rolled onto her side. She had missed the feel of the weapon, it was a comfort to have it once more.

RIIING! The sound brought the demon back to reality as she realized it was time to go and slowly, Kou arose from the ground. She was in no hurry to get to the room where they would be assigned their teacher and handed their fate.

Akiko. The demon recognized the Mage from the assignment papers, she blinked as she looked from the sheet to the girl and decided to take a seat as far away from the being as the classroom would allow. Yuuto wouldn't be so bad, at least he would understand what it meant to persecuted and dragged from your home; how could she ever trust a person who had never had to kill to survive?

The introduction was short, Ms. Blackwrath introduced herself with the essence of a thousand suns and bounced out as quickly as she had come in. The demon hadn't even payed attention to the welcome speech, she had been too busy looking for alternate exits. Standing once more, Kou waited until everyone was gone before leaving, savoring each step she took. What did Mr. Kurayami look like? There hadn't been a picture of him on the info sheets, but Kou figured she would watch which teacher Akiko or the fox demon went to since they were her teammates.

Today was a really nice day. The sun was shining brightly, the wind slowly blowing the dandelions away, the clouds drifted peacefully up in the blue sky, though it always seems to be kinda lonely in Midora's eyes, somewhat really similar to him. He knows that he is surrounded with people now and then, and even though that they have treated him like a normal person like he used to desire back when he was young, he couldn't help to feel as if he was isolated no matter how crowded it was. Is it because the trauma of grief that has been bothered him for many years still makes him feel that way? Midora couldn't understand himself. It was really peaceful and silent here in the garden, this is the only place that Midora find to be suit him. But even though every minutes is slowly passing away, Midora couldn't forgot which day today was - The first day of a whole new year in the Survival Kit Academy. Yeah, even though Midora thinks that he could never had the feeling of happiness and joy that he once enjoyed before, but he has never regretted that he has chosen to follow this life here, in the Academy, despite the fact that Midora could very well continue to live his old title with the power he was gifted with.

Midora now is closing his eyes while sitting in meditation position on the usual rock and meditating. He felt like he has to clear his mind a bit before greeting his new students. While Midora is meditating, he still thought about the very reason that he accepted the former Headmistress' offer to work for her back then. Of course, he wanted to teach the others what he has learnt, so that they won't fall like he did. But he knows that there are some other reasons, which again, Midora has to find out someday. He just sat there and drifted in the peaceful and silent atmosphere as if he is totally forget about the world around him. Midora would enjoy to just sat there like an atoning criminal for a whole day, however, he still has works to do.

Guess I should be going now. Ms. Blackwrath has specially required them to be at the entrance today to greet the newcomers. Well, he has been here for a pretty long time now and he has met all kind of demons and mages, with different manners, so he guessed that this time they won't make much of a difference for Midora. He stood up and got through the entrance to the garden. He walking through the halls cavalierly, knowing that there's no reason to be rushed. Since the students had gone back to their classes, the halls was quite deserted now. Only a few students which Midora put in detention for tardiness are cleaning the floor. Midora looked around him and then said to the students, "It seems that you've worked pretty hard. Okay, you may stopped now. Put the cleaning brooms back to where they were and go back to your class."

"Thank you, Mr. Kurayami", a student said and then all of them bowed to him before they took their leaves. Midora silently watched as the students leaving. Those students are now much better than when they just enrolled. It is good to know that they're still progressing. Then Midora continued to walked towards the Academy's entrance.

When he got there, he saw that his fellow teachers have just got there too, except for Ms. Blackwrath who is still inducing the newcomers. He walked towards them and stood between Ms. Bombardier and Ms. Weatherbee. Then all of them just stood there and wait for the students to come. They've done this for many times already, but to Midora, he felt just like the first time. He actually enjoyed to be watching his students progressing and giving them advices. And to give them punishments. He looked around to his collegues. Ms. Weatherbee seemed to be in a deep thought and murmuring something to herself. She's just a rookie, but she has shown many potentials and perhaps she'll did her job well. Ms. Bombardier is also gazing at the sky while bracing her hammer on her shoulder, as always. Somehow, people may thought that it must be really awkward for Midora to stand next to a tall lady like Ms. Bombardier. Yeah, Midora knows very well about what people will said when they first saw him. He's kinda shorter, his build seemed to be smaller and he looked younger than the other teachers, except for Ms. Weatherbee. But people always say that never judge a book through it covers, Midora presumes that his students might be surprise a bit when they know that he is actually the oldest teacher around here.

”The induction will be finishing soon and the students should be making their way to us. The headmistress said she would inform us of what exactly the exercise entails once everyone is here. Everyone remember their groups?”, asked Ms. Weatherbee. She seemed to be really looking forward to meet her students. Midora has read his group's profiles earlier. His group is consists of strong individuals, but their attitudes and manners seemed to be really opposed with each other. However, this isn't Midora's first time dealing with students like this, so he'll come up with a way to help them soon. He is also well-awared that his students will definitely hold a grudge with him, but if he tried, there's nothing that he can't fixed.

A few moments later, Ms. Blackwrath walked out from the entrance to them. Her hair is always the thing that caught Midora's eyes first because of its firey style, just like her personality. Come to think of it, Midora has always know how contrast she is with him. But she treated him and the other teachers well. Just like her mother. Despite that she seems much more out-going than Midora, she really knows how to makes her students listening to her. After she has ruffled Ms. Weatherbee hair like a caring sister, she began to intrigued the teachers. "Righty-o! Ladies and gents. You know I thought long and hard over this, and I figured a group exercise of this nature was right up the students alley. We need to know what their made of, who's really in need of help and who's going to be a handful -- you get the idea." Midora nodded to Ms. Blackwrath as he swallowed every words that she said. Ms. Blackwrath moving her hands onto her hips before continued, "With permission from the locals I have set up five loose doppelgÀngers in the town nearby, with each team expected to handle one between them. You, teachers, will watch over them and see how they handle it. The groups must form a strategy and plan to win. If it seems unlikely they can defeat the creature I expect you to deal with it." Midora brushes his fingers through his hair a bit and get ready to greet the students. This task wasn't easy as it sounds, especially for newcomers who still think that they have the right to stick their noses up to the air and think that they're oh-so-powerful without realizing their own flaws yet. But Midora will always be ready to fix whatever problems they may cause.

After that, Ms. Blackwrath turned around and watched as the students started to coming out. He could felt everyone's excitement in the air. "Let the fun begin", said Ms. Blackwrath. Right after that, the students coming out and standing in front of their teachers, forming groups. A cute little white-haired boy with two fluffy fox-ears came towards Midora and looking up to him with a grumpy frown. "Kurayami?", he asked as grumpy as his frown. Midora then gave his soon-to-be student a quick glance. I see his problems now, well, he's a typical fox demon after all. Still keeping his posture and acted as if he didn't care about the boy's attitude, Midora replied with a calm, yet cold respond,"Well yes, that's my last name. But please, it's Mr. Kurayami for you. I assumed that you're Yuuto the great fox demon then? Now stay in line, if you would." Midora rolls his eyes and saw another two tall young ladies was coming towards him. The mage student - Akiko seemed to be kind of flamboyant while the other demon student - Kou was acting more defensive, as if she's trying to avoid any contacts with everyone around her. When they've stood as a group in front of Midora, he greeted them, "Welcome students to the Survival Kit Academy. As you have known, my name is Midora Kurayami and I will be the teacher that will supervise and help you with your progress.", Midora said as he bowed gracefully in front of them. Just looking at the group, Midora can already guessed some of their personality. They're strong, indeed, and it'll be interesting to see them dealing with the task ahead of them. But will their egos be the obstacle that slow them down on their ways? Midora can only watched, for now.

Akiko Sai Marie

Image

Akiko wandered for a few minutes before she spotted Kou Izumi. She recognized her from the photos in the files she had been given before arriving. Kou stood about 5’4 with short dark hair, and watery gray eyes that had a cold look about them.

It seemed the demon recognize Akiko the same time she recognized her. Akiko smiled at her but Kou looked away with almost obvious disdain.

Great, she hadn’t even met her team mate yet and Kou already hated her. Akiko sighed and felt her shoulders droop a little. This was not getting off to a good start. She tucked a strand of her long raven hair out of her face and tried to compose herself.

It only took a few minutes before she spotted the other demon in his group, Yuuto. He had silvery white hair and soft white ears that kind of made her want to touch them
.though she got the feeling she might lose her hand if she tried.

She noted he had stunning violet eyes that she felt if she stared at too long she might fall in. He seemed to be in a not so great mood
and she got the distinct feeling that he would probably hate her too

"I guess being human makes me less than worthy..." She murmured as she closed her eyes and took a deep cleansing breath. She was used to the disdain though...She was tired of people assuming she wasn't good enough. Demons tended her hate her on principal but other people...simply because she was a Mage. She didnt win on either side.

"I non potest, videtur quod in utroque modo infinitum." She muttered in Latin.
(translation: It seems i just can't win on either front.)

She finally spotted their teacher as Yuuto approached him. She shook off her frustration and sadness at the immediate rejection from her teammates and smiled as she approached Midora Kurayami.

“Hello Mr. Kurayami, I am Akiko Marie. It is a pleasure to meet you” She said as she bowed to her new teacher.

Kou's clutch on her spirit sword tightened as she arrived at her final destination in time to hear Akiko introduce herself. The one with the fluffy ears, Yuuto, if she remembered correctly, was making it glaringly obvious that he had no desire to be here. Kou could conspire with that sentiment although she wore a placid mask so as not to acquiesce them to see what she was deliberating. "Kurayami-Senpai I presume?" She inquired at the tall man with black hair and startlingly young features.

"I am Nizumi Kou," she bowed respectfully, never one to dismiss from mind what the Monks instilled in her when she was learning in their Temple. She turned towards Yuuto and Akiko respectfully, "You must be Yuuto-kun and Akiko-chan," she did not bow to them, but a certain curious twinkle gleamed in her eyes. "Please, call me Kou."

Kou was suddenly very glad she had taken the time to learn the universal language of English during her time as a shrine maiden. Otherwise her attempts at interaction would most likely be lost in translation. "Please do not take my silence as a sign of disrespect, I am merely reticent." It was a lie, Kou was not shy at all, she simply judged people silently and was mostly indifferent; but to say this would not have been polite so Kou settled on circumspect.

This was probably the most Kou had spoken to anyone in a year, she hadn't even talked to the Marshall or officers in the prison this much, normally mumbling a hello or asking for the time of day.

Not feeling the need to speak any longer, Kou stepped back and got in line behind Yuuto as she had seen Kurayami-Senpai direct him. "Welcome students to the Survival Kit Academy. As you now know, my name is Midora Kurayami and I will be the teacher that will supervise and help you with your progress." She listened quietly, not even a fidget escaping from her. Kou was prepared for whatever they would throw at them and if this was about teamwork then she would do her best to comply with the Mage and show them that she could be released into the outside world.

✼ Yuuto ✼

Yuuto listened as Kurayami spoke, "Well yes, that's my last name. But please, it's Mr. Kurayami for you. I assumed that you're Yuuto the great fox demon then? Now stay in line, if you would." Midora rolled his eyes and it took Yuuto all he had not to snap. How dare that teacher just wave him off like that. Proper introductions were in order, not just a simple dismissal! Yuuto glared at him as he moved to step aside and stand in the supposed line. What did it matter where he stood? It was chaos around here anyway. His tail flicked from side to side displaying his annoyance but he refrained from grumbling or doing anything that would start a conflict.

His gaze was drawn towards two figures when he realized they were coming towards him. The first was a human woman with black hair and hazel eyes He immediately grimaced recognizing her for the second time that she was the mage he was partnered with. She seemed to be the lively type and that did not mesh well with Yuuto. The woman standing a bit away from her, Yuuto recognized as the second demon in this group. He tried to remember her name but gave up figuring he would find out in a minute. She was slightly attractive in a solemn way but he didn't feel any need to act on that idea. What drew his gaze was her gray eyes. He hadn't seen that color before. It was fascinating to see such a clear and neutral color in someones eyes.

The mage started first, “Hello Mr. Kurayami, I am Akiko Marie. It is a pleasure to meet you” She said as she bowed to her new teacher. Yuuto refrained from making a sound of disgust. If he was going to have to get used to her, one thing would be to get her to stop bowing. Respectful or not, it was simply too much for her. She was already human, need she show any more humility? Akiko need not bow at all, perhaps maybe a simple nod or a handshake between humans. Humans were already fragile and traitorous. If he were to pair up with a human, he wanted to be with a human that wouldn't be so disgusting. Distinguished, vibrant, loyal, honest, and dignified were traits suited for a human to stand beside him. Akiko was failing to fit that bill, at least in his eyes. She needed to stand above the rest if she wanted him to play nice with her.

The other girl began introductions, "I am Nizumi Kou," She bowed as well, bringing another bout of disappointment. She turned towards Yuuto and Akiko, "You must be Yuuto-kun and Akiko-chan," She stated and this time did not bow, although Yuuto noticed her curious gaze. "Please, call me Kou." She finished. Yuuto narrowed his eyes, watching her with newfound interest. He had been ready to complain about her bowing to the teacher but she hadn't to the others, by doing so retaining her pride and dignity as a demon among her peers. He supposed he could let that one go. How interesting. He mused silently. Yuuto sighed and straightened his posture preparing for his own introduction as he pushed his thoughts away.

"My name is Yuuto. It is my pleasure to meet you Kou. As well you, Akiko. I really hope we get along in the coming days." He smirked, it was only slightly pleasant and very much reluctant as he directed his violet gaze to Akiko.

Midora greeted them all then, "Welcome students to the Survival Kit Academy. As you have known, my name is Midora Kurayami and I will be the teacher that will supervise and help you with your progress." Yuuto huffed thinking, Mr. Kurayami you mean.

Midora kept his silent and calm look while facing with his students. Even though he didn't show it outside, he must admit that it is very interesting to watch how his students reacted with his attitudes. Midora quietly shook his head a bit when Yuuto do as he said. Midora knows very well that even though the cute little boy didn't show any signs of annoyance, he didn't even considered listening to what Midora said deep down in his heart, but he still has to listened, though reluctantly. Midora somehow felt amusing when watching Yuuto waving his tails like crazy as a way to show that he didn't want to listen to anyone, but still trying his best not to cause any signs of ill will. Not too bad, I must say. But we shall see.

"Hello Mr. Kurayami, I am Akiko Marie. It is a pleasure to meet you", Akiko said and then bowed to Midora. At first, Midora is quite fascinated with her classy look. She looks like she capable of taking care of herself very well and she seems clever, too. Midora can also felt that Akiko has great potentials and she could be a very strong mage someday. However, Midora is also well-aware that she still has flaws with her powers, which needed to be fix or else accidents can happen even though she didn't mean to. But it'll take time to work it out.

"My gratitude. Please to meet you too, Akiko. I hope that under my training, you'll be stronger", Midora said. Well, everything has it first times, right? We just need to see our mistakes as our own lessons to move on.

"Kurayami-Senpai I presume? I am Nizumi Kou." Kou said and then bowed like Akiko. She was the last one to introduce herself to Midora and the other two. Midora was surprised a bit when he saw how Kou behaved towards him. He frowned. Weird, why did they sent her here in the first place anyway? Isn't she doing just fine? He then thought back to the reason why she was sent here from the prison. Maybe it's because of her lack of social skills? Or has she done something that cause other people to be so afraid of her? Midora remember clearly about her origin, she's not an ordinary demon. Perhaps I will find out more when we begin our training.

"Actually, it's sensei, not senpai", Midora corrected, "since I'm not just your senior, I'm your teacher. But as long as you don't address me as if we're the same age, I don't mind. Pleasure to work with you, Kou-san."

Watching his soon-to-be students greeting each other and the way they reacted towards their teacher, Midora is starting to showed his respect to them. Yeah, he knows that even though Kou and Yuuto has been nice so far, they actually don't have the thought of getting along with any mages. He understands what flaws that Akiko is having since he used to be unable to control his power properly too. And he knows how Kou and Yuuto feel towards his kind. After all, even though he was a powerful mage, people used to treat him as if he was a freak, a demon that isn't supposed to be born into this world. With that thought, Midora thinks that he'll get along with his students somehow, because their true tests have just only begun.

"Okay, Ms. Blackwrath will induce about your first task soon. In the meantime, feel free to ask if you have any questions. Your training with us will be quite intense, but I know that to some of you, it is nothing compared to what you've experienced in your life. So, good luck, I guess.", Midora said to his group.

Akiko Sai Marie

"My gratitude. Please to meet you too, Akiko. I hope that under my training, you'll be stronger" Her new teacher said. She smiled at him and was glad at least her teacher didn't hate her yet.

Akiko felt the dislike practically rolling off of both of her teammates and it made her flush with embarrassment and resentment.

‘What did I do to earn such dislike?’ she wondered to herself as she looked around at the other groups. Everyone else was getting along why couldn't they?
She was starting to get irritated. Yeah she was human, but she could almost guarantee she could roll with the best of them. She knew her strengths and her weaknesses. She was here to get better, not impress them.

Akiko was going to make sure the world knew who she was. She had a rough start in life but she refused to let that hold her back. A determined look washed over her face as she remembered all the people that told her she wouldn't make it.

“I feel the disdain coming off of both of you, and I’m sick of it. If you have a problem with me, say it. Don’t just sit there like whipped dogs. I can give a damn less if you like me, but I can guarantee by the end of this you will respect me.” Akiko said quietly, addressing both of the demons in her group. There was no anger in her voice and her face remained passive. She knew she was probably going to regret it later but she had let her emotions get the best of her.

“Sensei, I am going to retire to the bathroom to change my attire as I was not aware we would be starting training today. I will be back momentarily.” She said softly with yet another respectful bow.

Akiko did not wait for a reply; she turned on her heel and started towards the bathroom. As she entered she felt something inside her break and tears started rolling down her cheeks. She knew it was dumb but she was hurt that already her teammates had no interest in being
.well
 teammates.

'If they didn't like you then they are sure to hate you now' she thought to herself with just a glimmer of bitter self hate.

It took a moment to regain control but when she did, she cleared herself of any and all signs of her momentary lapse of weakness. She used her abilities to transmute from the clothes she was wearing to a pair of black shorts and a blood red tank top with black running shoes. She tied her hair back into a tight braid and took a calming breath. It was time to show the world what she was made of.

Akiko was back out among the group within a few minutes, her face passive and her demeanor calm. She did not look at her teammates as she stood at the opposite side of them next to Midora. She glanced up at him and gave an apologetic smile.

"I apologize for the outburst" She said then she stood quietly, eyes straight ahead, and waited for instruction.

"My apologies Sensai." She went silent once more, keeping her thoughts to herself about what this exercise could possibly be when Akiko suddenly burst into metaphorical flames and accused them of harboring abhorrent feelings for her simply because she was a Mage. Kou listened and watched her storm off, deciding it was better to stay put than attempt to correct the girl. She would be back and when she did, Kou would make what would most likely be a futile attempt at interaction and hope that Akiko realized she didn't hate her, but that Kou was simply indifferent.

Kou leaned on her spirit sword while she waited, watching the other groups chat and introduce themselves to each other. Would it be worth her words to speak to Yuuto? She might as well, she would be living with him until this whole ordeal was over. Trying to relax her posture a bit; Kou spoke casually, "So what are you in for?" She was making two mental assumptions due to the fashion of his yukata. The first being that he was one of those old fashioned demons that hated change and resented technology and therefore condemned humans as a whole for changing the ancient ways, the second that he was contracted under a shrine. It wasn't any of her business though, but if he was a shrine demon Kou was curious to know which one had stolen his will.

Before he could answer, Akiko came back. A little worse for wear but otherwise looking okay. She has no emotional control. Kou would hope that would be something that their Sensai would teach them, outbursts, especially with magical beings, could be outstandingly atrocious. "I think you are mistaken," Kou spoke to the Mage with no malice in her voice. "I hold no enmity towards you, simply inertia to the situation." She didn't need to explain herself, but Kou did not want the Mage that would be controlling them to do anything harmful simply because she believed Kou loathed humans. "How would you feel if you discovered you were being sent to a school for magical creatures and were told that they would control you; that they would take away your prerogative?"

While they could be greedy, scared, and ignorant; mortals could also do wonderful and beautiful things. They could build and create whereas a demons soul purpose is to serve and destroy. Kou thought it was remarkable when humans built the Eiffel Tower, or created pieces of brilliance such as Starry Night or mosaics that went into temple windows. To Kou, these creatures were a paradox, an oxymoron of a puzzle that has taken her thousands of years to realize there is no figuring out.

However, that didn't mean she didn't have the right to kill the ones that tried to hunt her down and wipe her off the face of the planet.

Midora stood there with his group while looking around himself. The teachers are now introduced themselves with their groups and it seems that they get along quite well. The whole school ground right now is quite noisy and crowded, which Midora wasn't enjoyed at all. But there's only one day this school could get so crowded and lively like that, and that is today - the first day of the year. It seems that there are still some students which aren't here yet so Ms. Blackwrath decided to hold off a bit until everyone has arrived. Midora is looking forward to see what his students are capable of, and how can they manage to finish their challenge.

He then turned his head and looked at the three. Yuuto is, well, still a little bit annoyed, the boy just stood there with his tail waving. His facial expression now seemed to be normal, but Midora understands that deep down inside, Yuuto still holding a hatred towards his kind and he won't let his pride down so easily. But hopefully, sooner or later, he'll learn that no matter how strong or great he is, he's just a small individual in this everlasting universe.

"My apologies Sensai." Kou said and then went silent once more.

Kou, on the other side, is different. She seemed to be quiet. She was there leaning agaisnt her weapon while looking around as if she didn't care about anything anymore. Yeah, Midora knows what Kou has to do to survive in this world. Pretty much like Midora himself. Actually, she seemed to be a lot more well-behaved than the newcomers that Midora has ever met so far. But deep in her gray eyes, Midora could felt a strong desire to be free and to live a normal life like any other person would. He shook his head slightly, since Kou isn't just like any other demons, she's different and that's what makes her special. I guess she needed to learn how to accept the world around her, if she wanted them to accept her.

And then it comes to Akiko. Well, Midora couldn't understand why her expressions changed so quickly. She's just showed her strong features earlier and now it looks like she's going to break down. But before Midora could ask what happened to her, she said to her fellow demons in depressed.

“I feel the disdain coming off of both of you, and I’m sick of it. If you have a problem with me, say it. Don’t just sit there like whipped dogs. I can give a damn less if you like me, but I can guarantee by the end of this you will respect me.”

Although Akiko's words are full of depression, she still tried to make it look like she's still calm and all. Hearing those words, Midora was quite surprised. Now it has finally cleared to Midora that Akiko is showing her weaknesses. Not just weak in strenght, but also lack of endurance.

“Sensei, I am going to retire to the bathroom to change my attire as I was not aware we would be starting training today. I will be back momentarily.” She said softly with yet another respectful bow to Midora.

"Akiko, listen-", Midora tried to hold her off, but before he could finished his sentence, she left without saying any words. Midora can only sighed and shook his head with disappointments. Great, even more works to do.

As Akiko left, Midora watched the remaining two interacted with each other a bit. After that, he closed his eyes and said, "I know very well that both of you are having a certain disdains, or even disgusts with humans and mages. But now we're working as a group here. So please, at least attempt to show a little of respect towards your companions. That's the first step to learn something else even greater. And it isn't just about how you treated the people around you, trust me."

After he said, he secretly pulled out a piece of paper with a symbol craving on it from the back of his toga. Midora then hid it under his sleeve. A moments later, Akiko came back with her different clothes. She then stood next to Midora and gave him an apologetic smile before looking straight ahead.

When Kou has finished talking about how she felt, Midora swiftly dropped the piece of paper out from his sleeve and secretly stick it on Akiko's back so that the other two wouldn't see. He wanted to speak to her in private, but it was really crowding out here so he has to do this to talk to her.

"Akiko, can you hear me?", Midora talked in his mind, "I've sticked a Communication Charm on your back. We can now communicate through our minds without using verbal conversation. Now act as if you aren't listening to me."

Midora then turned his head and look at another direction, pretending like he was watching something else. With that, he talked to Akiko with a caring, yet cold and strict tone, as if he was lecturing her. "Your outburst earlier was completely disappointing. I was hoping that you're capable of controlling your very own feelings, and yet, you let your emotions taken over you. Where did the pride of a mage go? If you go outburst with just a little offence like that, then could you save yourself from breaking down if you have to face something which will hurt you even more? Trust me, throughout my life, I have received hatred and disgusts from the people around me much more than you can ever imagine. So, I want you to try your best and get along with them. If they think that you're weak, show them that you're not in the upcoming task. And remember that I'm always keeping an eye on you and the two of them from now on. Considered this as your first lesson. Now, put yourself together."

Midora then swiftly reached his hand and teared the Charm from Akiko's back. He sighed before looking up at the sky and continued to wait until Ms. Blackwrath inducing about their upcoming task. Luckily that the others didn't seem to realize.

When the three assembled in front of him again, he said to them, "On the upcoming challenge, I will oversee how you deal with the problem. However, I am not permitted to assist you, unless I really have to. So I expect you to do your best. That's what I can told you right now. I'm looking forward to know your powers and what you're capable of."

Akiko Marie

Akiko gave a startled gasp as she heard Midora’s voice in her head. He was chastising her for her weakness and outburst. Frustration swept through her but she kept her face passive. Even her teacher was judging her now. She felt like there was a ball of lead in her stomach, heavy and sickening.

She glanced at each of her teammates. It was likely they would never really accept her
but she would not let them have the satisfaction of another outburst ever again
Midora was right, she was weak and she would need to step it up if she was going to have any chance here.

"Again" Akiko felt the sting of a yet another lash across her back as she tried to focus on the spell she had in hand.

"Exsecratio Miserum Fortuna” She called, trying to summon her power. Her voice wavered as the pain intensified. She felt her knees weaken and her ears start to ring. They had been at this for hours and she was getting nowhere.

"I don’t see anything happening do you Akiko?” a rough, demanding voice asked her. She felt him grab her arm and throw her down. The funny thing was she was relieved to finally be off her feet, even as she felt the dirt pressed against her face.

“No father” Akiko said, resignation in her voice. She was just so tired

“Why are you so weak and pathetic? Why your mother couldn’t have bore me a son instead of a useless girl before she passed is beyond me. It’s your fault she is dead Akiko.” Her father snarled at her. Akiko felt pain lacerate her chest, though this time it was just emotional. She bit back her tears and struggled to her feet.

“Exsecratio Miserum Fortuna” She said again as she raised her hands at the target. Still nothing happened.

“Exsecratio Miserum Fortuna!” She heard her father whisper. She felt dread fill her a second before she felt the lash strike again. It whipped across her back and wrapped over her front, leaving a burning sensation. Akiko fell to the ground and screamed in pain, before blackness took her vision.

Akiko gave an imperceptible shake of her head as she came out of her memories. That lesson had left a very permanent scar across her collar bone. She traced her fingers across it subconsciously.

She turned to Kou feeling the need to respond.

“I do not wish to take your freedom from you, I have no intention of trying to control you either. I am here to better myself. Simple as that.” Akiko said. She wished they would get started already, she wanted to prove to her teammates she was worthy of being on this team.

✼ Iris Blackwrath ✼

Iris silenced herself for a moment or two as she quietly observed the two demons. Clearly, one was easier to get along with than the other, though the headmistress was never one to be beaten down easily.

"Alrighty, you two. Simmer down for a moment." She said as politely as she could, offering a smile as she did so before shifting her hands from her hips. "Takashi, or Saiko, you don't need to worry. I would never harm your... people, and I certainly don't plan to keep you here forever. Just do what you have to do, and I'll do as I have to, ok?"

Once all was said and done the headmistress turned her attention to the many heads that surrounded her. She figured, it was now the time to get the students into action. What fun. Walking over and heaving herself up onto a nearby small wall the woman stood high and proud as she waved her hands in the air to gain everyone's attention. Of course, Iris never struggled to attracted a group, and her students and staff were no different.

"Right everyone, listen up! It is time for your group-exercise to commence!" She snapped suddenly before dropping her arms to her sides "Your exercise will involve each group tackling a doppelgÀnger which will be located within the town nearby, that I have set up just for you. In order to win you must work as a team, plan ahead, and look-out for one another if you want to actually survive this ordeal. Failure to do so will result in... failure."

Pausing for a brief moment she allowed the information to sink into the students minds, awaiting secretly to see their expressions, before daring to continue, "Your teachers will supervise you and ensure you don't get in way over your heads. This exercise is mainly to see what your made of and show us what sort of students we're working with."

Hopping off the wall and landing squarely on her feet, the headmistress patted herself down before strolling in and amongst the groups of students. A challenging smirk was plastered on her features as she eyed up the youthful stares. Once more her hands returned to their respective place against her hips. "If anyone dares view this as an opportunity to cause hell and step out of line they're be in my office before their feet touch the ground. And no -- that's not a call to action. I do not wish to see anyone in my office at the end of this, understand?"

With friendly warnings and introductions out of the way, Iris casually handed out maps to the teachers, on which marked out the exact location the groups would find their designated doppelgÀnger. The maps also showed where each other groups would be, and a way leading back to the academy.

"Please do not mistake this exercise as some menial task to do. The doppelgÀngers can hurt you and will require some brain-power and skill to take down. Teachers will deal with the creature if they're group is unable to defeat it. Do not worry though this will not affect any of your standings here at the academy." She said calmly and clearly for all to hear. "With that said we will begin to head over to the town. Please keep to your groups, do not separate, and do as your teacher says and asks. Bad behavior will not be tolerated."

Turning to her own group Iris motioned with her hand for the trio to follow her. Once it seemed they were moving the headmistress began to lead the way out of the grounds of the academy. She waited until all students and teachers had moved before continuing onwards.

✼ Baron Weatherbee ✼

Image

Baron listened keenly to what the young girl had to say about herself. Really, she was truly fascinating, and it always intrigued the mage-demon to learn more about others and their capabilities. As the girl witnessed the fancy patterns move around across the outer surface of Kris, the teacher unknowingly awed ever so slightly. She really was amazed.

"You certainly have quite an array of powers. I am sure you will be quite the asset to this group." She said with a confirming nod to her words. "It should be interesting to watch you in the exercise."

"So what about you? What sort of tricks do you do?"

Baron was a little caught off-guard to the question, taking a moment or so to gather her thoughts before responding with, "I can grant wishes, if you put it that way. Whatever any mage thinks or wishes for, I can make it come to life before they're very eyes. The power itself is limitless and works with good and bad requests. I must admit however that I have not gotten my ability to work with demons for some reason."

Just then another girl arrived. "Sorry I'm late, I fell asleep. Anyway! Kali Minami at your service!"

So this is the other girl. Baron smiled and offered a nod to the blonde student. "Pleasure to meet you kali, you are just in time for the group exercise. By the look of it the entire group is here now." She spoke softly and warmly.

Just then Baron witnessed Iris on-top of a wall of some sort requesting the attention of everyone. Listening to what the women said Baron immediately knew that the exercise was now beginning. Listening further, the mage-demon gave a swift nod as the headmistress came to the end of her words. It is starting now.

Once accepting the map that was given to her Baron promptly glanced over the image and details and made mental notes on all of the important information. She understood where her creature was and how to get to it. Having re-read the map the teacher proceeded to show the map to her students and allowed them to look at it briefly. Of course, the map would be staying with the teacher during the exercise.

"Alright everyone, you heard the headmistress. It is time to begin the exercise, though do not worry as I will be with you the entire time. I will ensure your safety throughout this experience." She said to the three girls and retained the same smile as before. "I will lead you to the area where you will find the doppelgÀnger and then it is up to you three. Please think ahead and stick together, you will need one another to succeed in this exercise."

With that said Baron began to lead the girls in the direction of the Headmistress, who stood waiting for everyone. Once all groups and teachers were set they began to move onward.

Midora and his group waited there, seemingly ready for action at any times. He turned his head and looked at the entrance doors and it seemed that the rest of the students who weren't there yet has come. Though Midora didn't show it, but he really couldn't tolerate tardiness like that since he couldn't be more patient any longer. Lucky for them that they aren't in my group, I don't want to make my students kneel down and scrub floors on their first day. He then looked at his fellow teachers and it seemed that they're ready too. The test will finally begin now.

Midora realized that Ms. Blackwrath has got up to a small wall nearby and waved in order to gain everyone's attention. She stood as proudly as she is, as if she wouldn't afraid of anything. Well, she's really her mother's daughter. Ms. Blackwrath then began to induced loudly so that everyone could hear.

Failure to do so will result in... failure."

When Ms. Blackwrath was talking, everyone seemed to really concentrate in every words she said. And it seemed that the competitive spirit is in the air already. Midora have to admit that he finds these challenges really amusing. They're the true tests that each students have to accomplished. Some challenges can be easy, but some, well, were onto a whole new level. But Midora has to guarantee that his students come back in one piece. If they ever get hurt then he felt as if he was getting hurt himself, though it took him a long time to truly understand that.

Ms. Blackwrath then paused for a brief moment so that everyone could sink in every words that she said, awaiting secretly to see their expressions, before daring to continue, "Your teachers will supervise you and ensure you don't get in way over your heads. This exercise is mainly to see what your made of and show us what sort of students we're working with."

After finishing her induction, Ms. Blackwrath hopped down from the wall and began to walked to the midst of every groups. Then she gave every students what seemed to be a "friendly warning".

"If anyone dares view this as an opportunity to cause hell and step out of line they're be in my office before their feet touch the ground. And no -- that's not a call to action. I do not wish to see anyone in my office at the end of this, understand?"

After that, Ms. Blackwrath gave Midora and the other teachers maps that would show the position where the doppelgÀngers are and the exact destination where each group would find their designated one. It also showed the shortest way back to the Academy when everything has finished. Actually, to Midora, he didn't need a map to show him where their target was. The doppelgÀngers left trails of energy waves that would lead Midora exactly to where they were if he concentrate and feel it, he just need to know which one they have to up against. But it'll save more time to have the exact position rather then go looking around aimlessly.

"Please do not mistake this exercise as some menial task to do. The doppelgÀngers can hurt you and will require some brain-power and skill to take down. Teachers will deal with the creature if they're group is unable to defeat it. Do not worry though this will not affect any of your standings here at the academy. With that said we will begin to head over to the town. Please keep to your groups, do not separate, and do as your teacher says and asks. Bad behavior will not be tolerated."

After Ms. Blackwrath has finished, she turned back to her group and the other teachers are instructing their groups as well. So Midora then turned to the three. Akiko seemed to be calm now and she's ready to fight whatever she have to. Kou and Yuuto seemed to be ready too. So, Midora said to them, "Alright, you heard what she said. Now let us commence. With your strenght, I believe that you can accomplish this quest. But never underestimate the one you're up against and stick as a team. Remember that I will be watching you, don't disappoint me."

Midora then opened the map and gave it a quick glanced to remember the important information. He then showed the map to his students for a few moments and then rolled it up and put it in his toga. "Let's go", Midora said before leading them towards Ms. Blackwrath who is standing outside of the Academy's grounds and waiting for everyone. Midora is walking behind his groups while thinking about their upcoming challenge. DoppelgÀngers. They're creatures that would have the exact same abilities and traits as their creator. But since they're just a form of energy, their power are not even half as strong as the one who created them. But still, it'll take some tactics and skills to defeat them. And because the doppelgÀngers have no emotions what-so-ever, they can hit their opponents real hard. I can take them on effortlessly, but it won't be easy for them if they continue to let their own emotions taken over them like that. Let's see how they handle it... When everyone has assembled, they began to spread out to their own destination.

Strategy, that requires talking. Kou thought and sighed, figuring that after Akiko had broken down she would be a bit embarrassed to take charge. "Doppelgangers are half as strong as their creator," Kou voiced. "And if Blackwrath-Sensai created them then we're going to have a hell of a time taking them down." Fortunately, taking down beasts had been one of her menial jobs under Hachiman's reign; unfortunately she had to work together with a Mage and a fellow demon to neutralize this threat.

"I can set up a cage-er-barrier, if you will and teleport us inside, I'll need to be able to keep the barrier up which takes a lot of focus, but this way the damage to the town is minimal and the threat is contained." She could feel her blood warm up with the prospect of a fight; it had been a long time since Kou had exterminated something. She wasn't going to complain about not being able to have the map, for her, the hunt was part of the excitement. I doubt Sensai will allow us to see the map again. That was probably just to tip us off to the starting point. Akiko and Yuuto better be ready, if she fails it could mean trouble and if he refuses to cooperate..."

"Whatever you do, don't let the thing touch you. If I remember correctly, Blackwrath-Sensai has Heart Break which can kill you in an instant." She didn't know just how wild these doppelgangers were, if they were anything like the woman who created them then they would be pretty crazy. Shadow manipulation and demon control were also part of their Headmaster's skill set which could again spell trouble for Kou and Yuuto.

"Yuuto-Kun, I'm assuming because you're a fox yokai that you have foxfire. That could come in handy, but I'm just thinking aloud. I can manipulate blood, energy, and can teleport. Akiko, what does your skill set include?" She was already forming a plan in her head, using logic and previous experience to try and factor in the two. If Kou had been by herself she would have cornered the being with a barrier, teleported herself inside, and stopped the doppelganger's blood flow. However, they had to use teamwork and come with a plan together to defeat the demon which not only was an inconvenience, but a challenge in itself.

Akiko Sai Marie

Akiko hesitated. She wasn’t really willing to show all of her cards yet. She didn’t trust them and she knew her teammates didn’t trust her...but she was supposed to lead this team and she was determined to lead it to victory.

“If the doppelganger is only about half as strong as the head mistress, what effect would the Heartbreak really have? I assume it would probably knock you on your butt, maybe out
” Akiko mused out loud trying to remember what other powers the Headmistress had.

She glanced at their Headmistress. “If I remember correctly, she also has the ability to control demons through a glance, as well as control her shadow
” Akiko said, as she formed her own plan.

“Once we track down the doppelganger, I can go on offence, distracting, and if possible wounding it. You can use your blood abilities to hold it in one place. Meanwhile I can protect you both from any attack it might thought. Once you have it under control, Yuuto can take it out.” Akiko said with quiet confidence.

Akiko glanced at her teammates trying to gauge their reactions. She knew it was a very simple plan, but in her life she found that the simplest of plans tended to be the most effective. She thought her plan would be effective simply because she was immune to two out of three of her Headmistress’s powers so she should be able to easily deflect attacks and protect her teammates.
“What do you think?” She asked genuinely interested in their opinion.

Yuuto stayed silent, waiting for the headmaster to address them when suddenly the human burst out, "“I feel the disdain coming off of both of you, and I’m sick of it. If you have a problem with me, say it. Don’t just sit there like whipped dogs. I can give a damn less if you like me, but I can guarantee by the end of this you will respect me." Yuuto scowled at the human. If she hadn't given a damn then she would have kept her yapping mouth shut. Annoyance flared in his mood and he crossed his arms, however, he didn't say anything in response to her rant. “Sensei, I am going to retire to the bathroom to change my attire as I was not aware we would be starting training today. I will be back momentarily.” She said softly with yet another respectful bow to Midora. Yuuto watched her walk away, his scowl still fixed on his face. The woman was slowly but surely becoming more trouble than this entire charade happened to be.

Yuuto glanced at Midora, observing the concern on his face. He was going to dismiss any thoughts about it when Midora spoke, "I know very well that both of you are having a certain disdains, or even disgusts with humans and mages. But now we're working as a group here. So please, at least attempt to show a little of respect towards your companions. That's the first step to learn something else even greater. And it isn't just about how you treated the people around you, trust me."

Yuuto's ears practically flattened and he growled under his breath. His thoughts were rampant. I didn't say a word to her. I have been ever so polite and restrained. If she can't handle that then perhaps she will become the weak link of this team. I won't spoil her. If she is going to lead us demons as a mage then she should act like it. So far all I see is a weak woman, and, human at that. He huffed in contempt before turning his gaze on Kou. Kou leaned on her spirit sword watching the other groups chat and introduce themselves to each other. She appeared relaxed given the current situation. Kou spoke casually, "So what are you in for?" Yuuto shrugged and tried to calm down a bit. "Simply put, killing a bunch of people. Demons and humans included." He didn't sound guilty or even regretful, only dismissive on the subject. He shrugged again just for measure and then smirked slightly. "I think she'll be coming back. I'll save asking you about your reason later."

Akiko arrived looking harried and Yuuto's scowl returned. Yuuto raised a brow as Kou addressed Akiko. Her tone was plain and very polite. However, it was the last sentence that made him tense and turn his gaze on Akiko to see her reaction. "How would you feel if you discovered you were being sent to a school for magical creatures and were told that they would control you; that they would take away your prerogative?" Kou asked. Yuuto waited, curious as to what the mortal mage would say.

"I do not wish to take your freedom from you, I have no intention of trying to control you either. I am here to better myself. Simple as that.” Akiko stated. Yuuto shook his head. He had expected an answer like that and he felt angry all over again. It was simple? Something like taking away a person's will and decisions away is a simple thing? Just so you can better yourself? Yuuto turned his gaze elsewhere, urging the anger to simmer down.

The headmaster addressed them and Kou immediately took charge. Yuuto listened attentively to her ideas and tried to think of some of his own. When Akiko responded to Kou and began to explain her plan, he felt a tinge of surprise. Her plan was plain but sufficient and doable. Yuuto nodded. "I can agree with that. I have my foxfire indeed. My other skills would be restoring things to their natural state and transforming things. However, I don't think the other two will help very well. So, Akiko's plan is the best choice." He bit off the words, as they were bitter-tasting. Nevertheless he put up with his hesitations and focused on the task at hand.

Midora stood behind of his group while listening to them discussing about how to dealt with the doppelgÀnger. Midora have to admit that they put out their strategies quite fast and well, and they seemingly know how to make good use of their own power. And they do have a certain knowledges about the creature they're about to face too. But anything can happen and I can't afford to have them getting in any troubles. However, what Midora really concern right now is that what would they learn after this challenge, or they just consider this as a game. This challange isn't easy, but it is nothing compared to what they've faced and will continue to face in their lives. Hope that they will keep their head up high whether they win or lose.

From what Midora saw, it seems that Kou is now taking the wheel and trying to lead the team after Akiko's outburst earlier. That's a smart move. Midora is still figuring out how to help Akiko to improve, but she really have to bring it on so that she could step out of the line and gain respects from her group. However, Midora is a bit worry if she's going to show a little bit of hestitation when facing her opponent later, if that's the case then she might lead her team into total failure. She needed to step it up now if she don't want to be a weak link in the group from now on.

And it comes to Yuuto. Although he's now trying to keep calm as much as he can, Midora can already felt the rage and anger which the fox demon had right now. It is good that he's trying to listen to his fellow teammates now. But Midora wasn't sure if he's going to follow the plan later if he continues to let his own ego to lead him like that. I know that he wasn't afraid of anything, even me. But after he had learnt that he's not on top of the world, he'll have a better point of view. Yeah, Midora knows that he is strong, no doubts about it, and throughout his life, only a few dare to provoke him in battle, just like how they felt towards any other Dark Mages. But he knows that he still have a lot to learn and by that, he accepted his own weakness so that he could be like today.

After his group seemed to had finished to discuss, he walked to the front of them. "I guess that you all have managed to scratch out some strategies up to your sleeves then? Okay, let's proceed to our destination", he said to them and then began to walk away from the Academy.

Midora then led his group went across some streets. On the street, people are still doing their daily jobs and they don't seem to worry about anything. "Don't be surprise if you saw that people are still doing their jobs as if they don't know that some strong and quite dangerous beings had been setting loose. Iris surely has ordered the doppelgÀngers not to harm any other person other than the ones they're going to face from the Academy, and she has also put them at deserted places so that citizens won't be caught in the middle of the fight, that's the top rule of our school, safety always comes first", Midora explained to his group, "You might want to take note."

After a few moments of walking, they finally arrived at a large ground surrounded with some uninhabited houses in a deserted street. And standing before them is the doppelgÀnger they have to face. It look exactly the same like Ms. Blackwrath, but its eyes are dull and it stood there, coldly, waiting for action. Midora then said to his students, "Standing in front of us right now is your opponent. Now, if you move closer to it, it'll be provoked and will try to beat you with everything it had. But remember that it is not even half as strong as Iris, so it still have some weaknesses that you have to figure out yourselves and use it as your advantage. Good luck."

With that, Midora then vanished into a black vortex and then reappeared again a few seconds later on a roof of a house just next to where the fight will commence to have a better view, and to interfere immediately if anything happens. "Let your first challenge begin", Midora said loudly. It all now come to this moment, now show me what you're made of.

Kou listened to their Sensei's spiel with ease, she took in a deep breath in order to clear her mind and not to allow her thoughts to get in the way of the fight. It's not even half as strong... She looked at the others to see if they were ready and decided that they were prepared. "Let the games begin," Kou said as soon as their teacher gave them the signal. With a burst of speed, leaped towards the dormant figure waiting for the attack.

She had to get closer to connect her ability and use the blood manipulation, she had to see the blood. Kou swung her staff and just nicked it's arm. She wasn't supposed to do anymore and was restraining herself a bit because they had to use teamwork and she wasn't about to cut the doppelganger's arm off before Yuuto could burn it with his foxfire. Kou fell back towards the other two, now that she could see the blood it would be a lot easier.

The demon closed her eyes and reached out towards the dripping crimson liquid, it was taking her a lot longer then she expected to connect and by the time she had the Iris doppelganger under control, she felt exhausted. "I won't be able to keep her still for long," Kou warned. "Do your thing Yuuto."

Kou began to collect energy, manifesting it from the air around her in case she needed to build a barrier or shoot at the target. She didn't trust Akiko, not after that outburst and she doubted the mortal's abilities as a Mage. Her planning skills, however, were stellar, even though they were a bit simple for the other female's taste. To each his own.

AKIKO
Image

Akiko was shocked to hear that both of them agreed with her plan. She smiled even though she could tell by the sour look on Yuutos face that he did not like that he agreed. Once the plan was set they followed Midora. Akiko listened carefully to her teacher in case there were any clues as to how to defeat the doppelganger, though she heard none. It was time to show her team she meant business.

"Let your first challenge begin” Midora said.
Akiko focused on her center and felt her power expand. It was like a creature stretching in her and it felt amazing. She hadn’t used her powers in ages and now was her chance to let it all out.

“Nigrum pardus” She said. She felt pain explode throughout her body as parts of her shifted to that of a black leopard. She caught her reflection in a window and grinned. She now had black leopard ears, large incisors, and claws of the leopard along with all of its senses
.not to mention its strength and agility.

Kou attacked instantly, but only nicked the doppelganger and fell back. She watched the demon girl for a moment, seeing the air shimmer around her. She knew she put up some sort of protection. Of course Kou wouldn’t trust her to protect them. The doppelganger narrowed her eyes and started towards Kou. Kou seemed to catch it with her blood magic.

Anger boiled in Akiko and she channeled it into her powers.

"I won't be able to keep her still for long, Do your thing Yuuto." Kou called to Yuuto. The plan was all out of order, something was bound to go wrong. Akiko started at a run towards the doppelganger

“Terra impetum” She said as she pulled the earth out from under the doppelganger making it roll. The doppelganger lost its footing for a moment but was barely fazed as it turned its eyes towards Akiko and used its Shadow manipulation.

The shadow popped out of nowhere and attacked Akiko like a living being. Akiko barely heard it coming. Her ears gave a slight twitch and she jumped back, barely avoiding the blow. She slashed out with her claws, catching the thing in the shoulder, shredding through it.

“Impetum ignis” She said as she aimed her hands at the shadow. Fire shot from her fingers sending the shadow dancing a few feet away.

“It’s thoroughly distracted feel free to do something Yuuto” Akiko said as she realized Kou’s hold wouldn’t last much longer.

“Tellus absorbet” She said as she held her hands out. A sink hole took the doppelganger into the earth to its knees.

She noticed the shadow had given up on her and was heading towards Yuuto, a shadowy limb ready to take a painful shot at his head.

"Oh no you don't!" Akiko growled and made a mad dash for the thing. She placed herself between Yuuto and the shadow but only had enough time to throw up her hands and protect her face from the blow.

The hit sent her flying back towards a building.

“Gravitas” She coughed out desperately. She landed on her feet but fell to her knees. She definitely had some broken ribs. She ground her teeth and stood starting back towards the fight. Her focus was weakening therefore her power was waning. She felt fury run through her veins because she knew she was going to catch flack from her teammates for getting hit.

“Bring it on you brain dead piece of shit” she said under her breath as she placed herself between the doppelganger and her teammates and readied to protect both of them again.

✼ Yuuto ✼

Yuuto followed the two projecting a calm and cold exterior, and in a way he began to feel that way. It had been a long time since he had killed something demonic and it lighted a familiar fire within him. Kou immediately set about to laying blows on the doppelgÀnger and Yuuto waited, poised for his own blow. He only spare a glance at Akiko, enough to see her transformation. It was startling, seeing a power so much like a demon's in a human body.

Yuuto turned his attention back to the flames filling him and he began to pull them outward. It was akin to the feeling of expanding oneself; to breath in as much air as possible and become more. The fox fire was a part of him and the blue-black tendrils wreathed around him. He focused it into spheres of dancing flames hovering in the air around him, and once he was prepared he extended his heightened senses outwards, observing the battle carefully.

"I won't be able to keep her still for long, Do your thing Yuuto." Kou called to Yuuto. Yuuto stepped forward, getting closer to the doppelgÀnger so that there was no possibility for a miss. Akiko ran forward and pulled the earth out from under the doppelgÀnger making it roll. The doppelganger lost its footing for a moment but was barely fazed as it turned its eyes towards Akiko and used its Shadow manipulation. The shadow popped out of nowhere and attacked Akiko like a living being. Yuuto didn't help her, testing her will to live, and to fight. His slitted eyes narrowed as he monitored her combat skills. She was fairly useful when her mage power were activated. She slashed out with her claws, catching the thing in the shoulder, shredding through it and the scent of demonic blood seeped into the air, exciting him.

“It’s thoroughly distracted feel free to do something Yuuto.” Akiko said as she used a spell to sink the doppelgĂ€nger to it's knees. Yuuto grinned, "Keep it still. I'll deal the final strike now." He raised his hands feeling the flames expand further as his natural yokai powers burst forward. Right as he began to launch the fireballs of destruction, the doppelgĂ€nger raised it's arm to shoot at Yuuto. He didn't feel the need to dodge as he could survive a shot if dodged correctly enough so that it wasn't fatal. Pain was not new to him.

However, he startled, surprised at the turn of events. Akiko jumped in front of him and he halted his fireballs so that they wouldn't hit her from behind but unfortunately for her, she took the shot for him. The bolt sent her fragile human body flying back and Yuuto widened his eyes in surprise. Immediate rage seethed through his veins as he froze, unsure of whether to help the mage or finish the job. A cold voice inside said to let the mage be, to give her up to her injuries. Yet, he felt obliged to help her. No one had ever attempted to save him like that since
Many hundreds of years ago. He grit his teeth against a growl as he angrily watched Akiko stand and take point again.

"Your one stupid human." He growled, pushing her gently out of the way as he pushed her aside. He didn't turn around as his flames shot forward and engulfed the doppelgÀnger a infernal darkness wreathing like flames. He watched the doppelgÀnger struggle against the restraints as he was slowly consumed by the fire. Foxfire didn't just burn, it absorbed the soul, the energy of the being and extinguished it as the flames died out with the victim. Yuuto didn't turn around but crouched and lightly touched a hand to Akiko's chest. "Pardon me, this may burn a bit." He let his energy flow into Akiko and searched for the injuries on her body. The mortal body felt so insubstantial to him as his burning energy probed it. When he found the broken rib and a few cuts, he detached his energy and restored her to the original stable state that a human body was supposed to be at. Once he felt that she was healed he snatched his hand away. "I can't have my mage looking like she fell into a blender and managed to survive." He huffed snappily, putting emphasis on 'my' even though he stubbornly didn't thank her for sparing him an injury. Yuuto walked towards the remaining flickers of foxfire that refused to die out as the last bits of energy faded away.

"It should be dead." He murmured, scrutinizing the scene of destruction. The ground was cracked and ash was strewn about. Blood was scattered about loosely. He turned to Kou, raising a brow but a bout of lightheadedness struck him. He frowned and blinked the dizziness away. It had been a while since he had had to use his unnatural powers and as such hadn't prepared to use that much energy since he never had to heal people since he didn't care about them. He also hadn't prepared a store of energy large enough to keep the powers from backlashing. He felt himself pale but remained upright, keeping a dignified expression on him face with a dogged determination.
