It was the middle of summer and to top it off one of the hottest days of the year. The village of Kiken sat on the edge of the four great kingdoms and rested in a valley surrounded by grasslands and woods. Around that sat large hills perfect for hiding. A large River ran through the center of the village two large bridges connecting the two sides one on the north and one on the south. Over the past few months the village had been plagued by Bandits and even a rumored cultist in the area. Soldiers from all over pour into the fairly large village. All looking for mercenary work.

Our story starts in the Bonfire Inn a large three story Inn with a pub on the first floor. There was chattering of all types of people inside the inn but one man stayed in the corner half asleep in the corner he had just gotten in a few days ago and blew his money in a card game. "Here you go friend ... shouldn't put everything in a bluff." a mug of Ale was placed in-front of the man. "So whats your name friend." Both men had fire red hair sign of the Empire Ignis both seemed to be solders.

The broke man raised his head showing he had an eyepatch over one eye. "The name is Alex...Alex Frost." he said with a grin before drinking the contents of the mug.

"Nice to meet you Alex I'm Regulus Leonard."

Alex almost chocked on the ale at the name of the other man. After cough a few times he spoke with almost a stutter "A-as in the y-youngest General of Ignis EVER? Who went AWOL just a few months back." He was just a bit to busy staring not realizing the rest of the people in the pub have gone silent and were now looking in their direction. Due to Alex's awe-struck state he had entirely forgot about the bounty on the young generals head, then it clicked as he glanced around the room. "Uh-oh"

The general looked behind him and sighed before giving a glare that sent almost everyone in the inn back to what they were doing "That's what I thought. Well now Alex what brings another of the fine upstanding Ignis army here to Kiken?" He sat across the from Alex and the bartender immediately brought over a glass and bottle of wine. "Thank you." he nodded to the barkeep before partaking of the wine in front of him.

One of the more comfortable tables in the corner of the pub was currently taken by two women, both in conversation, although one seemed to be more enthusiastic about it than the other.

"...Well, how about that contract for tracking down the cult those guys from earlier were talking about? They've doubled the reward again since yesterday, y'know!"

The woman opposite of the enthusiastic mage gestured her refusal to take on such a risky job. They had doubled the reward twice now, and that was a sign of danger much too often. Of course, young and eager mercenaries like her partner here never really did care for such details, a lack of care that usually resulted in fatal outcomes.

"My apologies, but I don't believe it would be wise to accept this contract, m'lady. Such a high bounty is often accompanied with high risks." Despite her best wishes, Helena doubted the mage would heed her words. She rarely did. "Think about it overnight, perhaps?"

Rina looked crestfallen upon hearing what her companion had to say, but she knew she was right. "Yeah, I'll... I'll do that. Besides, we'd need to get a few more people together for it anyway." Her eyes slowly scanned the room, a new idea starting to form. "Hey, we could probably find a few people in here who might be able to help us out. See anyone who looks like they could last long?"

Helena complied with the unspoken wishes of Rina, quickly scanning the room for any seasoned mercenaries that could assist them in this contract. There were a couple that had caught her eye, however Helena felt that, since it was Rina who wanted to take this contract, it was Rina who should choose. "Anyone in particular taking your fancy?"

The mage was about to reply that she hadn't found anyone, until an oddly young-looking man at one of the tables exclaimed something about a general of Ignis and starting coughing on his ale. Rina couldn't help but snigger at the sight and murmur "Looks like somebody's had one too many."

Helena tried her best to ignore the drunk shouts, however that proved to be challenging as every person, animal and object in the room had taken immediate notice of it - Even Rina. "Of course they have." The woman scoffed, quickly turning the conversation to a subject that was important. "We definitely won't ask them for help." She joked, resuming her drink as they waited for more... competent candidates to arrive.

Four large brutes that resembled walking boulders rather then humans approached the table. "Did we hear correctly? You be the
General that ran from Ignis. The price of a cowards head is quite high these days." Each mercenary brandished an rusted ax covered in nicks and dents.

Alex busted out laughing at the men. "Your axes must mirror your brains." after wiping a tear from his good eye. "Please tell me there are at least like thirty more guys outside or this will be waaaaay to quick." He pushed him self from the table with a bit of a stagger and swaying back in forth. "Come on at least make this interesting."

"Out of the dru-" The largest man's words wore cut short as a katana tore through his throat right before he toppled to the ground with a loud thud. Alex no stood atop the table his katana pointed at the man to the right and his flintlock at the man in the to left.

"Lame. If your going to be a mercenary know your target." Alex gave a huge toothy grin. "Like the fact the four of you have about thirty gold a piece on your heads." in a single movement He pulled the trigger sending a lead bullet flying straight into the skull of one and his blade dispatching the last two. "Pssshh. You couldn't even stand against a trainee let alone a general." He leapt from the table and went back to his drink. "Hey barkeep! Send word to the owner I took care of his little problem."

"Never assume your opponent is just a drunk." Regulus smugly said as he sipped his wine. "Your as good as I thought Alex."

Libraries. And books. And parchment. And ink. That's what Locaia enjoyed the most. Not pubs. She couldn't stand pubs. So, what was she doing in a pub? She wasn't sure. It might have had something to do with the fact that she could gather information easily. And by easily, I mean with a lot of work and maybe a bit of torture. She pulled her blue hood farther in front of her face. "What can I get you?" the bartender asked.

"Water."

"Just water?"

"Just water."

The confused man walked to get her water. She settled down at one of the tables, reaching into her cloak and withdrawing a book. Her hands brushed the fans she used as a last resort, but she barely gave them a second thought. The book was about arcane healing magic. And by arcane, it meant arcane. Long before kingdoms even existed and mages were just discovering what they could do. She was so engrossed in her book that she didn't realize someone approaching her.

Calina shifted her bow on her shoulder, the twine digging slightly into her shoulder. The night was beginning to roll in over the village. Calina quickened her step, heading towards the tavern. Inside the tavern, it was warm as people gathered in small groups, variably discussing the events of the day or conning one another out of money. Calina took her bow from her shoulder, carrying it to the bar. She placed it on the bar, catching the attention of the keeper.

"Ale and a room," She said, handing over a few coins, "I trust that covers me?"

The keeper looked at the coins in his hands, giving a disinterested nod as he disappeared to fetch Calina's ale. Her hand hovered over the curve of her bow as the keeper returned with her drink and a key. Calina hooked the key onto her belt and took her ale. Tightening her grip on the bow, Calina took a glance around the room, searching for a suitable seat. She took a seat at a table only occupied by a girl dressed in blue, similar to Calina. Calina leaned her bow against the table leg, somewhat bemused by the girl's obliviousness to the world around her as she read. Calina took a gulp of her ale, studying the spine of the book. Arcane. So this girl was interested in the magic of the world. More so than the actual world around her it seemed. Calina rested her elbow on the back and crossed one leg over the other, "How do you do that?" Calina asked the blue-robed girl, "Completely tune the world out," She explained, "Sometimes I wish I could do that. It gets far too noisy sometimes."

Helena idly glanced at the spectacle of four hulking giants approaching the far end table almost in unison, apparently they had it in for the two blokes that had briefly disrupted the chatter amongst patrons. Why, Helena couldn't tell, although the sudden gush of blood as one of the gruff mercenaries ragdolized against the floorboard had given her an inkling of what might've gone about.

As the fight escalated into a visceral, one-sided beatdown, quite obviously the dumb-as-bricks misfits on the losing end of said beating, Helena didn't speak, and merely looked to Rina, who she assumed must've seen the display. It was hard not to, considering it was in plain sight.

Rina had watched the fight, and although she couldn't help but flinch at some of the bloodier parts, her mind was in motion. If the cult they were after was going to be dangerous, they needed a few people relatively more expendable than themselves who could put up a good fight if she and Helena were to get that reward.

"Hmm... We could probably use a couple of good meatshields," Rina commented after a while. "What say you?"

"Every able hand is welcomed. Whatever the form." She retorted with a slight hint of disgust. She was very opinionated about these sort of things, however if Rina wished to ask for their assistance Helena would obediently agree to that. She had to at least give credit for dispatching of the four savages, regardless whether or not they were any real threat...

"Very well. Shall we make them the offer, m'lady?" Helena gracefully rose from her seat, allowing her right arm to rest on the hilt of her sword as she faced Rina and patiently waited for her to take the initiative.

"No time like the present, Helena," said Rina, striding purposefully towards the two young men. Their red hair gave away their heritage as sons of Ignis, a nation known for its fighters... and little else.

"Good evening, gentlemen. I have a proposition for you that you might be interested in, if you would be so kind as to hear me out."
