The Tower

The Tower

The Tower; a massive spire that spans for miles into the skies. No one knows how, when or why it was made. All we know it has loot, and someone's getting it.

3,810 readers have visited The Tower since Jeremiad created it.

Absenthia, and MayContainPlagiarism are listed as curators, giving them final say over any conflict & the ability to clean up mistakes.

Introduction

Once upon a time, long ago, in a time before memory existed two groups of man. They were simply known as the believers and the non-believers. While the Believers worshiped the Creator and his disciples, the Non-believers worshiped the evils and darkness that the Creator cast. After a time man's civilization grew to great heights, and the two groups lived together relatively peacefully. However this was not to be forever, as time marched on, tensions amongst the two groups grew to a point where the priests and their paladins shamed the non-believers for what they believed was their betrayal to their Creator; however the non-believers, now known as Cultists and Witches, denied the accusations vehemently. Eventually tensions between the two reached a head, and a war that would end both sides was predicted to begin. The Creator, sick of watching man quarrel, created a spire at the edge of both group's territory high enough to reach his throne. He announced that anyone who wishes to prove their worth, must climb the tower, facing many fearful things along the way, proving their superiority. The Believers and Non-believers, each eager to win over the realm, rushed towards the Tower; only to be faced with terrible beasts and monsters who destroyed all who entered. Having exhausted all their resources in the futile attempt of besting the spire, mankind finally banded together in a truce, and created the world as we know it today.

And now begins your story brave hero. You've heard the tale a thousand times, how man once separated, warred with himself until the Creator placed a mighty spire at the edge of the realm. In search of fame and glory you have purchased keys to the Tower, things which don't come cheap. While other's may have struck it rich, and found glory in a manner of hours, others have never come back. Today you have decided that you will face the tower, with it's terrible beasts, and monsters; having purchased keys, which don't come cheap, you open the gates and begin your quest.

Have fun :)

WARNING: This is a work in progress. It's not much for now, but I'll work on improving this and refining it as soon as my time frees up a bit.

Character Creation: All characters must declare the following in their bio:
Skills- All and any spells, techniques and powers that your hero has at his disposal, including ones he/she's learned in his journey throughout the Tower.
(Skills are classified in Physical, Magic-Aligned and Religious-Aligned. Please declare a skill's alignment accordingly.)
Equipment- The gear your hero has brought to challenge the Tower, including any new pieces he/she may have equipped in his quest within the Tower. There are 6 types: Hat, Armor, Weapon, Gloves, Charm and Shoes.
(The time in which the Tower RP takes place is in medieval times, The Dark Ages; consider this when making your character.)
Backpack- All and any consumable items your hero has brought to help him in his quest, including any he/she may have obtained in the looting of the Tower.
Stats- Represent the hero's skills, proficiencies and deficiencies. There are 7; Attack, Defense, Speed, Intellect, Faith, Stealth, and Resilience. They do the following:

(Please take the base stats shown as a placeholder for the "average" character. Adjust accordingly for your character.)

Attack- Represents the power behind physical blows. Influences damage output, ALL physical skills, their efficiency and power; and interactions with armored enemies. Base is 10.
Defense- Represents your character's ability to absorb blows. Influences damage intake and interactions with heavily armed foes. Base is 10.
Speed- Represents your hero's agility. Influences attack speed, travel speed, and reaction time. Base is 10.

Lance was about to protest the idea of Koko and Satogi heading back, but after seeing the wounds on Satogi, he nodded understandingly.

"Alright I guess that makes sense..." Lance muttered as Koko seemed to hoist Satogi's massive arm on his shoulders and proceed to walk him back towards the safe room.

"Hey wait!" he called to the two, who stopped and turned around. "I'm continuing on from here, so if I don't see or hear from you two again, I wish you the best of luck. Koko, when you reach the tenth floor, I hope you know exactly what path you wish to follow. And Satogi, you will do your lineage great honor. I know it from your character."

And with that, he waved a possibly final goodbye as the two set off back towards the safe room to heal. He hoped they would be alright. However, he couldn't focus on his new friends. He had to venture onward. And so, he continued through the darkness, looking for the staircase that would take him forward on his long and arduous journey.

Sanul was stirred from his rest when he heard footsteps. Getting up off of the floor where he sat against the wall, he peeked out from the stiarcase to see who or what it was.

He was glad to see Lance, and surprised to see him alone!

"Well, well, well, it seems we find ourselves reunited. Come, let's see what we're up against," he said as he began walking up the stairs with Lance.

As the duo took their steps upwards, Sanul felt... odd. Something wasn't right with him. The scepter in his hand no longer hummed quietly, and he felt tired, even though he had just rested up.

Lance, however, was a completely different story. Looking over to his companion, he saw a great fire burn in the warrior's eyes; he felt a strong radiance resonate within him grow stronger with every step they took upwards.

When they finally made it to the fifth floor, he was impressed; instead of the halls and doors of the other floors, he was presented with a single massive chamber, lit by ancient runes carved into the immortal stone of the spire.

The metal door behind Sanul and Lance closes with a loud CLANG; no turning back now.

At the center of it lay a single man: Asdom, Twelth Grandchild of the Bright. A man of true royal blood blessed with an immortal existence, he simply meditated in the center of the chamber, lying in wait for the next mortal to challenge him.

Rising from the floor, the monk presents himself to Sanul and Lance; his youth is undying, with the appearance of a man in his twenties with millennia of existence. He's not thin nor large, but well-toned and with a strong build. His voice is smooth and silky, as he directs some words to the duo that now faces him:

"Congratulations, Lance and Sanul. You've made it this far. Clearly, neither of you are like the rest; not everyone can make it here."

Pacing towards his challengers slowly, he kicks a few skulls across the chamber as he continues:

"Of course, you're here to claim the prize at the top of the spire. If you wish to take it, you must prove you deserve it; by defeating the Royal Family in its whole, starting with me."

Stopping abruptly, he raises his hands.

"But a battle like this should have an audience, yes?!" Asdom screams into the arena. "So let's get to it!!!" From the floor, thousands of seats rise up and form a center-stage for the heroes to fight the champion in. From the blackness of the ceiling, beasts of all kinds fill the stadium; spirits of fallen heroes, horrendous beasts, corrupted priests and mages take their seats to watch the glorious fight take place.

Within minutes the once empty chamber is now a roaring arena! Asdom, pleased with the witnesses in place, finally declares:

"So! Now that everything's in place, let the trials BEGIN!"

Pulling up his bare fists, he takes a defensive stance at the center of the arena, waiting for Sanul and Lance to make the first move. The mage decides to let Lance take the first strike, seeing as he's more able against their opponent.

Approaching the staircase, Lance was surprised to see something moving behind it. Expecting another challenger, he drew his swords once more and got ready for the fight. When he saw it was Sanul, he sighed and chuckled a bit. From one set of friendly faces to another...

"Yeah, guess so. Let's do it!" Lance said, climbing the stairs with Sanul.

However, an interesting phenomenon took place. With each step, Lance grew stronger and stronger. He felt...powerful. Like one swing of his sword could chop through a mountain or something. His shoulder's pain was even gone. It was an odd feeling of adrenaline, but it was an unnatural one and that's what made Lance concerned.

He looked over to Sanul to see if the mage was acting in the same way. To his surprise, it seemed to be doing the opposite. He had tired eyes and took heavy steps. It seemed he could barely lift his scepter as he climbed. Something was off with him. It was like this power that resonated with Lance so smoothly clashed with Sanul. He felt great concern for his new friend as well.

Reaching the top, he was intrigued to find a monk meditating in the middle. As if he was readying himself for the next potential fight. As if he was readying himself for Lance and Sanul. Before he knew it, the monk was walking around, talking to them by name and congratulating them. Lance knew it had to be of the Royal Family as he had never met the guy and yet he talked to them as if he'd known and mentored them for a long time.

When he summoned the stadium around them, filling the stands with an audience to enjoy the combat, Lance couldn't help but note some level of arrogance to Asdom. He seemed to enjoy the spotlight...or at least the atmosphere of a building filled with action thrillers. A potential weakness, who knows. Or maybe he'd earned that right to be arrogant by skill. He'd assume the latter unless proven otherwise.

Asdom held up his fist in a defensive stance. Lance looked over at Sanul and seeing that he wasn't in quite the right shape to fight decided to make the first move on his own. He walked up to the mighty Asdom, whom which he actually stared down upon as he realized he was the taller man. But Asdom was the more experienced by far. He wouldn't question it. Why else would he beckon a swordsman while holding up nothing but fists? He'd be very cautious of this fight.

Twirling the sword in his right hand, he made a slight move as if to slice with his right-handed sword, feinted, then crossed over with a jab from his left-handed sword. It was less to make the killing blow on the first swipe and more to see what Asdom would do. However, if it ended up with him slaying the millennial without even putting forth much effort of the mighty power he had with him, that was a plus as well.

The monk was glad to counter Lance's strike; with inhuman speed and little effort, Asdom lunges forward and slaps Lance's weapons out of his hands!

With two flicks of Asdom's wrist, both of the warrior's weapons fly from his grip, and land with a clatter several feet away.

Following up on his mindblowing first move, the monk delivers a flurry of a dozen or so flying punches, finishing the combo with a roundhouse kick to the face, sending Lance flying.

Sanul was horrified by the sight of his ally get absolutely thrashed about. "Something's up. Lemme take a closer look at that guy..." he mutters to himself, as he begun casting an analysis spell. His attempt was cut short by a splitting migraine; something was denying him acess to his magic. Nonetheless, he tries again; ignoring the brutal headache and trying to see what made Asdom so special.

Woah woah woah WOAH WOAH!

Lance wasn't expecting to get the killing blow, but he had anticipated maybe Asdom blocking his sword with his fist or dodging out of the way.

He hadn't expected to be disarmed so easily.

Lance had dodged a couple of the punches and even blocked a couple more. But for the most part, he was just above the rank of a punching bag when Asdom attacked. He literally got his ass kicked, sending him flying towards the outer parts of the arena. Regaining composure after a hit like that, he corkscrewed in the air, landing with his feet spread apart, bent forward, finger in front. The force of the kick had actually caused him to slide back a few more feet, despite landing.

The taste of blood was in his mouth. Lance could feel something trickling out the corner of his mouth and down towards his chin He didn't need to put two and two together to realize what the substance was. Spitting out some of the substance out and onto the ground, he rubbed off the trickle and proceeded to look at the residue on the back of his hand, even though he knew what he was looking at.

Red...

Chuckling softly, he turned to face Asdom once more, "Well, I shouldn't expect anything less from your hierarchy. Although I will give you this...that was quick."

He walked away from the wall, ignoring the crowd's reaction to Asdom's wicked first strike, ignoring his weapons on the ground for the time being, and stood in front of the monk for the second time. "Let's see who's quicker."

Interestingly enough, the blows he'd received weren't taxing on him at all. In fact, they seemed to fuel him. He couldn't explain it, but something in the air made him feel stronger, like he could take hits from the immortal all day. It felt powerful. He felt powerful.

He squat down in a ready stance and motioned for Asdom to come at him. Now let's see how he strikes...

Asdom decides to answer Lance's question. He throws a series of punches, kicks and jabs at the warrior; albeit not quite as quick as the first strike, but it is much more prolonged.

Sanul continues to struggle to cast his spells, the strong aura of the chamber making it impossibly difficult for him to cast.

The next stage of the fight began. Asdom was still fast, although not as fast as he was initially. Lance felt great, like he could move a thousand miles per hour, leap across the entire stadium, and dodge and deflect so fast, it couldn't be caught by the naked eye.

So, he did.

Every punch, kick, and jab thrown in his direction was dodged, blocked, or deflected in some way, shape, or form. A right hook was stopped by an elbow block. A left cross pushed inward. Lance straight up front flipped around a roundhouse kick. And he wasn't even tiring from the constant barrage of attacks. He was getting faster and faster.

It got to the point where it became almost too easy to see the next attack and prepare to defend against it. It was this moment that he chose to strike. Another punch whipped forward. Lance instead chose to use Asdom's outstretched arm against him, using it as leverage to leap up and kick him with both feet at once, like a sweep to the legs, only aimed at the head. The force and momentum behind the kick would most likely send Asdom flying and Lance corkscrewing into another stance, ready for phase three.

Re: The Tower

Hey guys, I just wanna say that since I'm starting school back up, I may end up being less active here. Once I get some more free time, I will also be updating the rules a little, so look out for that.
Hope you're all still having fun with this.
:P

Re: The Tower

What happened...shit got real.

Nah, jk. Lance and Koko ended up running into Satogi and helped him destroyed the crystal. After introductions, a spirit appeared and asked for help to reclaim his corpse. The paladin agreed wholeheartedly. We looked around the third floor and eventually found it guarded by an Almagatethingamabobby. Satogi lost his armor and damaged his shield in the fight and Koko's energy was sapped, but the combined efforts of Lance and Koko beat him. Lance decided to go look for another piece of armor for Satogi and ended up stumbling upon the altar, where Elyzabeth and Gakgak were. .He accidentally activated a trap, releasing four wratihs, two that pursued Lance and two that are currently after you (sorry). Lance ran away to the Crystal room where he opened the chest left by the Crystal, hoping it was some armor or a weapon to beat the wraith. It ended up being a Possessed Blade, another trap. Lance destroyed the Blade and was about the face the ghoul (the combination of the two wraiths) when Satogi caught up, blasting away the creature. A copy of Sanul appeared, more character development, and a flip of the bird later, we're on the fourth floor. That''s about it.

And with that, I won't be on today and it's very likely I won't be on tomorrow. Gotta fly out of Las Vegas today and it all depends on what I'm doing tomorrow. But I will definitely be back on the 2nd! See ya then...

Re: The Tower

So, I feel kind of scuzzy about this, but can someone give me a tl;dr of what I've missed? Laptop and holiday issues being what they are, trying to skim everything from the last week has been confusing. I know someone tried talking to Elysabeth and/or Gakgak, but they're tagged in like 20 different posts in which they aren't mentioned at all, and I'm confused as to who's doing what to whom.

Re: The Tower

Borked laptop has been replaced.

Re: The Tower

How dare you, flip.

Also, everyone, my laptop borked. So I can't do anything until its replacement gets here.

Re: The Tower

To anyone who still reads the OOC chat (Which I hope is everyone), I just want to remind you all to update your characters often. I know it's not something Jeremiad or MCP has pushed on us to do, but I think it's a great idea as I've been doing it myself. Often we forget about some of the items at our disposal when we're in battle and maybe this'll help keep a better track of it all. Not telling you guys to do this like a command or an order...I just think it'll help organize ourselves a bit better. That is all! Thanks!

Yeah, but... I don't know. I appreciate your input, Flip. I think I'm going to wait a bit longer until I can justify 5 hours having passed, then I'll post again. Busy breeding pokemon and doing giveaways in the meantime. :)

MCP: I was in kind of the same way when the story was highlighted on you guys, Elyzabeth and Satogi. I had to take it upon myself to build the area around me and let Jeremiad apply the stats and challenges later. My suggestion, should you take it although you don't have to, would be to build the environment around you and describe the scenery. Maybe you find a spell or engraving on the wall. Hell, maybe even an enemy to fight or something. Maybe take it upon yourself to meditate/rest for 5+ hours to get back on the timeline if you feel that you're off. I can't decide that for you. But Jeremiad didn't seem to have a problem when I took over the story a little bit to keep Lance and Koko moving. I'm sure it'll be the same for you.
