Huh? Tripwire? Lance immediately froze in place and begin scouting the area around them. At first glance, it seemed like nothing was around them. But at a closer inspection...

The tripwire wasn't even a millimeter in length, it's transparent surface allowing for easy blending, stretching across not even two inches from Lance's left foot. Immediately stepping slightly backwards, he held his hand out in front of Satogi and Koko to prevent them from setting it off. "I see it," he told them The unsettling quiet of the floor made him unobservant for a time and he hated himself for it. He shouldn't let his guard down that easily. He'd been having a streak of running headlong into tricks and traps since about the third floor and he was just about sick of it.

He needed to be a bit slower. This wasn't a sprint. It was a loooooong jog and he wanted to see what was at the end.

"Here, follow my lead," Lance stepped over the tripwire, looking around for any more. Satisfied, he looked back to find Satogi had disappeared. He looked into the next room and spotted a room of pure brilliance...white to be seen all around with all sorts of symbols covering the walls.

"Satogi, can you decipher these?" he called to the paladin, who seemed eager to not talk about Sanul and his "dark arts".

"Hmm," Lance looked around the room, inspecting the symbols a bit closer. Recognizing a few as Alchemist Protection Sigils, he confirmed Satogi's statement. But why would a room like this be set up? What kind of protection would someone need on a floor with no enemies?

Lance stepped outside the room to let Satogi meditate in peace, walking over to Koko. "So, what triggers this?" he asked the young mage, casually studying the thin wire himself before turning to face him.

In the blast of light, about a dozen bodies launch, spraying blood across the halls.

The few drows that do survive are spooked by the slaughter, and flee into the shadows of the darkness.

The first Drow to reach Lance took a jab straight at his gut. Lance swiped the blade out of the way with his own blade and thrust his other blade forward, the sword going through the Drow's head. Three left and they were all upon him.

They stood around him in a circle, knives drawn and ready to cut through some meat. Lance studied each one carefully, one blade held behind him, one blade held in front. He was hoping they would all charge at once in a coordinated effort, making the takedown he had prepared quick, clean, and efficient. Spinning the blades in his hands, he gave each Drow a patronizing look, hoping to egg them on. Before they could do anything, a large light spread through the hallway. Lance shielded his eyes, hoping he wouldn't be blind from the endeavor.

When Lance opened his eyes, he found the Drows gone. All that remained in their place was an entirely new paint job.

So much for clean.

Knowing who had caused that powerful attack, Lance turned to Satogi. "Thanks," he said before looking to see that Koko was fine other than the blood that was running down the side of his face. "Uh, Koko, you got a little something riiiiiiight..." instead of finishing the sentence, he demonstrated by vigorously rubbing the side of his face.

Satogi didn't seem to be needed past his initial attack so he sheaths his sword and lets out a little sound of disapproval at the Drow. "Damned dark worshiping elves! Let me stay in their shadows." He walks over to inspect the blood splatter and grins in excitement at his new ability. While the circle could be used to summon almost any shape of light energy it was blades that had first popped into his mind. Now that it was dealt with he had to recover the strength that he had lost so he plops down to sit near Lance and Koko, eating some rations he had with him. He hoped there was something more than skeletons and ghosts up ahead or they would have a hard time hunting for fresh food.

Koko turned to Lance after the encounter was over and blinked as he touched the side of his head indicated. He came back with blood on his hands and quickly felt his head to find the source. This was technically his first injury of the Tower and sighs as he starts to bandage it with wrappings torn from his shirt. He really didn't care for the uniform, as he had always hated it since his first days at the academy. Sighing he now looks like half a mummy on his head and sits when Satogi does, taking a load off and tries to keep his composure.

Sanul was surprised at the sound of Lance's voice. With a rather embarrassing shriek, he jumped and pulled up his dukes, only to quickly put them down.

"Oh, it's you."

Clearly, Sanul was not in a good mood. The eerie emptiness of the floor annoyed him, and his patience waned as he needed blood to energize the artifact he had found. As he turned to talk some more, he noticed the fighter's hand on one of his weapons.

"Have you been looking for me? Did the believer send you?" Sanul asked, a nervous twinge in his voice. He'd heard of horrendous things done to mages in the Brightlands (what his faction referred to as the lands where the believers settled). Public executions, torture, conversion... He's always been afraid of them.

His nerves getting the best of him, he attempts to flee from the warrior.

"Not really...I came here on my own. Satogi and Koko are resting. We had an altercation over by...hey, wait!" Lance was surprised to see Sanul take off so quickly. He'd caught the tremble in the man's voice as he'd talked, but had chalked it up to an encounter on the fourth floor.

He dropped his hand, calling out to the running Sanul. "I'm not gonna hurt you!" he cried.

Sanul glared at the obsidian key he held for only a moment, but saw its value: if he was correct, that could lead him to something of immense value.

"Sure. I don't mind company as long as it doesn't kill me."

Removing the glyphs from the floor, he gets up and allows Lance to take the lead.

The charming devil taking his shift at the post gladly showed the duo his wares, seeing they were clearly ready to drop serious coin.

He shows them a total of 11 items. The first is a Ring of Recklessness (-2 Defense, +2 Attack) for 325g. The next item shown is an Orbital, a black iron sphere floating above the table (Floats randomly around his owner, deflecting some projectiles and granting +1 Defense) for 610g. A bottle of Silver Oil was for sale as well (Apply to a weapon to double its effectiveness against monsters, but halve power against nonmonsters) for 480g. On a shelf, a Money Bag (Carries your money, with no encumbrances) is labeled for 185g. Four Rainbow Vials (Buff or Debuff a random Stat for 3 temporarily) are all available for 200g each. An Elven Weapon Repair Kit lied in the corner (Fix and upgrade weapons, cannot be used on artifacts) for 1230g.

A pair of artifacts, however, were the main attraction: two Bloodstones (Linked to each other, the two owners share their life force) for 10620g.

Since Sanul is a dark mage, he receives a half-off discount on these wares for "his cooperation with my kind", as the vendor says.

Doing the math, Lance calculated.

The Bloodstones would be 5310g for Sanul, the repair kit 615g, the rainbow vials 100g apiece, the Money Bag 93g (knowing the salesman would take the higher of the two values in odd sales), the Silver Oil 240g, the sphere 305g, and the ring 163g.

If Sanul wanted those Bloodstones, that would only leave 690g left for Lance to use, since he had the normal wares. Lance wanted the black sphere with him, which he could afford should Sanul want the Bloodstones, but he also may want the Elven Weapon Repair Kit for Satogi's sake. His sword was durable enough to last through this dungeon he believed.

"Okay, Sanul," Lance looked at the mage, who was examining items, "What appeals to you?"

Sanul looked over the counter, looking for anything decent to take. The Bloodstones would be great... If he actually had a partner to use it with.

He'd take the bag, that's for damn sure. But, honestly, he wasn't very interested in much else. Maybe the vials? Screw it, he'd take all four.

"I think I'll take the money bag and the vials. You?"

"That sounds doable."

His transactions complete, and Lance's purchase processed as well, he took the change, and left the warrior with his sum of cash. Sanul wasn't done yet, though.

"Hey, Lance. Before you go."

A long sequences of symbols and murmurs brought about a small tome, unlabeled. In it, was contained the long story the mage had recited to Lance.

"Tell the Brightlander that you found this. Tell him you found him a happy ending. Oh, and don't be surprised if I end up joining you three at the fifth floor. Heard the champion up there is right up your alley."

The dark mage handed him the tome, before walking into the darkness of the floor.

Before he knew it, he was surrounded by five Dark Goblins. Koko and Satogi seemed to be in no condition to help him this time. He was on his own.

Drawing his swords and twirling them around, he eyed the five Goblins menacingly. "Alright, let's do this."

The team was coordinated. Rather than charge on their own accord, they charged en masse towards Lance. But Lance had his own advantages. For one, those knives wouldn't defend much against his swords. Second, his sword's reach would kill them all before they even got close to getting him with the knife. Finally, Lance was Lance...a swordsman at heart and a slayer of his opponents...all of his opponents.

A quick slice at the midsection actually took three of them out with one swing. The one on the far left jabbed forward with the knife, but Lance parried easily with his left-handed sword and reached across to stab the Goblin on the right. Pivoting around, he made a one eighty degree turn and stabbed the last Goblin with the right handed sword, watching it fall before him.

As he went over to check on Satogi and Koko, something bothered him about the fight. That almost seemed too easy to be the boss fight of this floor. Surely there was something way worse coming. But he would be ready for it. In the meantime, he wanted to make sure Satogi and Koko would be okay.

Little did Lance know this was no ordinary ambush; a horde of Dark Goblins lay invisible in the pitch-black dark, lying in wait to strike.

Out of the impenetrable black, more Dark Goblins materialized; cloaked in the darkness of the spire, two of them go in for the kill, while 6 more make advance towards Lance, denying him. Koko has a rapier pierce his lower abdomen, and Satogi receives an axeblade to the shoulder, cutting deep into his meat and cracking the bone underneath.

(Koko is now at Death's door; mortally wounded, he requires assistance immediately, lest he avoid his doom. ANY amount of recovery will take him off of Death's Door. Satogi is no longer in the condition to continue wielding his weapon; it drops to the floor.)

((OOC: Meh indeed.))

More Goblins appeared out of the blackness, two rushing towards Satogi and Koko while six go after Lance. He'd have to find a way to get around the Goblins to try and get to his two friends.

Twirling his blades, he stabbed across at the closest Goblin, then spun and caught the second with a stroke to his abdomen, slicing it in half. Then, he back flipped over the next two Goblins, landing in the center of his remaining four. Not even looking back at then, he jabbed backwards and hit two Goblins in their hearts. He went for a scissor like motion towards the next Goblin's head, cutting it off and in the same motion blocked the other Goblin's stroke. He then stabbed the surviving Goblin in the chest, then spun and cleaved his head off. Using speed, he ran towards the other two Goblins who were attacking Satogi and Koko.

Reaching Koko first, he shoved the Goblin off of him, then whacked the rapier the Goblin wielded as hard as he could, making it drop to the floor. Finally, he went for the neck slice and got it, killing the brute.

Satogi next...

Lance reached the wounded Paladin just as the Goblin raised it's axeblade once more. He threw his sword, watching it spin and hit the Goblin in the neck with pinpoint accuracy. It dropped to the floor and Lance rushed over to retrieve his weapon. He gathered Satogi and dragged him towards Koko.

"Phew! You're a heavy one, aren't you?" Lance muttered as he dragged.

When he reached the young mage, he saw that Koko was in peril. He needed help now. Seeing no other choice, he took Koko's Vial of Life and gave it to him. "Drink up buddy,"

With that, he spun around, circling his two friends so that he could protect them while the ambush continued.

Koko eagerly takes the vial and drinks it all in a single gulp; within seconds, his wounds close and his life force returns to full strength.

A final wave of enemies emerged from the shadows; these were NOT goblins, however. A duo of Highwaymen, adorned in the bones of the fallen, cackling in madness make themselves present. Crazed by hunger, the almost-boney humans both blast their ancient tools of war, peppering the party with grapeshot.

The Omnitool! Lance thought quickly and brought out the object, which was currently in wand form. He lifted it in front of himself, Koko, and Satogi and thought of the tool as a massive shield. Suddenly, the shield took on more weight as it morphed in front of him. The shield would most likely deflect the grapeshot. When the barrage was finished, he got up and turned the Omnitool into a black bar for storage. He picked up his swords and walked forward, pounding his chest and taunting the Highwaymen to challenge him. Meanwhile, he slipped his hand into his pack and pulled out a Thunder Shard, keeping it hidden in the palm of his hand while he carried one of his two swords in his other hand, the second one sheathed.

"Hey guys," he casually said to the two, "How did you get past that massive Orc right there?" he pointed behind them, hoping the two would look that way out of confusion.

Now! While they were distracted, Lance held the Shard by his mouth and whispered to it. "Da mihi virtutem lapis tonitrui..." He then consumed the shard. Immediately, he felt a jolt coarse through his body, like a wave of electric adrenaline. He drew his second sword and twirled them around, watching the electricity crackle between the blades. He smiled smugly at the Highwaymen. This was gonna be fun...

Lance looked back and forth between the two, studying their movements. It appeared they both had range weapons with the exception of the one with the bayonet. A perfect CQC match-up for him.

With the Thunder Shard's power, Lance actually had a lot of variety in attacks. He could make himself faster. He could strike from a far distance instantaneously with a thunderbolt. It was one of those forms that boosted nearly every aspect of his fighting style. It was his second favorite behind the Fire Shard. The only downfall was it wasn't the most accurate form he could take. Lightning was unpredictable where it struck and while he could hit from a distance, there was also the decent chance it could strike around the opponent as well.

But Lance knew how to counteract that.

He assumed the one with the bayonet wanted to go first, considering he stepped in front of his partner. The warrior would happily oblige. Twirling his blades around, he walked forward. The electricity sparked and crackled all around them. Random small bolts would shoot off the blade every now and then, striking random spots in the room. One came extremely close to the front highwaymen, hitting the ground two inches from his foot.

He took that potentially distracting moment to charge, whacking the bayonet with the sword in his left hand while jabbing forward with his right. If all worked alright, the highwaymen's blaster would be out of the way and he wouldn't have a defense for the lethal strike to the heart.

Lance's technique works as intended; the poor sap up front gets skewered, leaving his friend in a bit of a pickle.

The second highwayman was rather spooked by his friend's death, interrupting the reload of his blaster. However, the beastly human had another trick up his sleeve...

From a belt of explosives hidden well under his shirt, he pulls out a Silversparkle Grenade and lobs it at Lance's feet, exploding on impact. The small ball of silver scrapings and gunpowder doesn't deal much damage as it explodes with a weak *bang*, but the silver shavings have a profound effect on the warrior; as he inhales the fumes, he begins coughing violently, and his magic abilities quickly fizzle and die.

(Lance has been Supressed; his Intellect drops to -10 for a short period, all and any Magic influence on him is removed, and he is temporarily incapacitated.)

Making good use of his apt throw, he puts away his hand cannon and replaces it with a small dirk; with a great lunge, he stabs at Lance, piercing his shoulder.

Before he knew it, his world was a silver landscape.

Lance hadn't anticipated the grenade throw, now had he known what it would do. The silver "shrapnel" was everywhere, making it hard for him to see and hard for him to breathe. He started coughing violently, realizing at the same time that he'd felt his energy leave his body, as if the silver stuff had absorbed it. They took away his thunder abilities.

Partially blind and incapacitated, Lance stepped back, keeping his sword up instinctively. Unfortunately for him, the highwayman knew how to maneuver around a somewhat blind fighter and his blades. He felt a sharp stab in his shoulder as he presumed the highwayman stabbed him there. Unfortunately for the highwayman, he wasn't going to stand there and take that, no matter what condition he was in. He now had a relative position of a certain body part attached to the figure. With great instinct, he used his right handed blade to slice across his body, presumably slicing into and cutting off the highwayman's outstretched arm which held the blade that was currently stabbing Lance's shoulder. By this time, his blindness would've worn off and he would see exactly what he'd done.

Lance's retaliation is impressive, cutting through the poor man's thin flesh and throwing his bony arm across the room.

The skeletal assailant, amazingly, doesn't succumb to the brutal wound; unwilling to fall and seemingly blind to the pain, he screams a horrific laugh as he attempts to leave with his life.

However, Satogi's having none of it. Raising himself off his knees, he charges at the highwayman and skewers the man's cranium with his blade, killing him instantly.

"No mercy to these horrid beasts," he mutters to himself as he checks his wounds out. "Lance, thank you for protecting us. You have my undying respect."

As we walked back to Koko, the young mage stared at his wounds with a face of worry.

"You know Lance, I think we'll be staying behind for now. I'll lead Satogi back to the saferoom and work on his wounds, if you don't mind."

The monk was glad to counter Lance's strike; with inhuman speed and little effort, Asdom lunges forward and slaps Lance's weapons out of his hands!

With two flicks of Asdom's wrist, both of the warrior's weapons fly from his grip, and land with a clatter several feet away.

Following up on his mindblowing first move, the monk delivers a flurry of a dozen or so flying punches, finishing the combo with a roundhouse kick to the face, sending Lance flying.

Sanul was horrified by the sight of his ally get absolutely thrashed about. "Something's up. Lemme take a closer look at that guy..." he mutters to himself, as he begun casting an analysis spell. His attempt was cut short by a splitting migraine; something was denying him acess to his magic. Woah woah woah WOAH WOAH!

Lance wasn't expecting to get the killing blow, but he had anticipated maybe Asdom blocking his sword with his fist or dodging out of the way.

He hadn't expected to be disarmed so easily.

Lance had dodged a couple of the punches and even blocked a couple more. But for the most part, he was just above the rank of a punching bag when Asdom attacked. He literally got his ass kicked, sending him flying towards the outer parts of the arena. Regaining composure after a hit like that, he corkscrewed in the air, landing with his feet spread apart, bent forward, finger in front. The force of the kick had actually caused him to slide back a few more feet, despite landing.

The taste of blood was in his mouth. Lance could feel something trickling out the corner of his mouth and down towards his chin He didn't need to put two and two together to realize what the substance was. Spitting out some of the substance out and onto the ground, he rubbed off the trickle and proceeded to look at the residue on the back of his hand, even though he knew what he was looking at.

Red...

Chuckling softly, he turned to face Asdom once more, "Well, I shouldn't expect anything less from your hierarchy. Although I will give you this...that was quick."

He walked away from the wall, ignoring the crowd's reaction to Asdom's wicked first strike, ignoring his weapons on the ground for the time being, and stood in front of the monk for the second time. "Let's see who's quicker."

Interestingly enough, the blows he'd received weren't taxing on him at all. In fact, they seemed to fuel him. He couldn't explain it, but something in the air made him feel stronger, like he could take hits from the immortal all day. It felt powerful. He felt powerful.

He squat down in a ready stance and motioned for Asdom to come at him. Now let's see how he strikes...
