a character in “The Twelve Guardians”, as played by Arlathina

Description

Hikari Neshomaru

Image

Role: Guardian Number 12

Gender: Female
Title(s)/Alias(es): The Oracle of Winterfall
Age: 21
Race: Human
Love Interest: Possible, but none at the moment
Password: Peach and/or Yellow

Appearance: Hikari's personality may contradict her small stature. Decked in powder white robes, embroidered by intricate runes, Hikari is the image of feminism. Her round, blue eyes shimmer innocently, resembling beautiful oval sapphires, and in contrast to her fair light skin, they seem even more dramatic. Her silver-blonde hair falls in long tresses all the way to her lower back, framing her pale pink lips.

Preferred Clothing: Hikari seems to prefer wearing long, flowing white gowns. Her favorite, which she is seldomly seen not wearing, is an alluring cleric's gown. It is pure white, although the hem is known to get a bit dirty during Hikari's travels, with long intricate bands of golden thread running through the sleeves, waist, and torso. It is of celtic design, purchased by the King as a gift for Hikari to earn her trust.

Height: 5'2 OR 157 cm.
Weight: 109 lbs.
Hair Color: Silver-Blonde
Eye Color: Pale Blue

Personality: Many have said that Hikari carries with her an air of conviction. As if she knows her mission in life, and will not rest until it has been accomplished. Hikari is a very serious person, although when the time is right she can be tender and caring. Otherwise, her tongue is loose, and she will almost always say what is on her mind, regardless of people's feelings.

Although, this aloof demeanor usually only applies to foreigners of Winterfall. Upon her arrival in Winterfall Hikari was greeted by an era of famine, warfare, and crime. However, these circumstances could not impede Hikari's natural charisma. She has become very popular within the city, adored by many of the citizens. Not to mention the many suitors that chase the sweet smell of her perfume, but when you are on a mission like Hikari's, you have no time for the trivialities of men.

On the other hand, when surrounded by unfamiliar people, Hikari is known to be very quiet, solemn, and distant. She is attentive, intelligent, and poise, but is always ready to speak her mind, especially when contradicted. She has good intentions, but sometimes can end up making people dislike her. Once it gets to this point, Hikari will simply let that person simmer with their opinions.

Hikari is not completely sane, and her mind is not always functioning correctly. Hikari may transcend to an elevated state of conscienceness where the lives of her comrades are laid out before her. She may see the future, and the past, of a person in the blink of an eye. Feel what they have felt, see what they have seen, and lived their entire lifespan in a matter of moments. These brief and rare episodes are forced onto Hikari, and she loathes experiencing what she should not.

Hikari is a woman with a dark past that she prefers not to speak of, and therefore she may come off a bit rude when asked questions concerning her background. It would benefit you not to even ask. Admittedly, she has a great deal of regrets, and she keeps these regrets bound tightly within her heart. She is often seen lost in thought, pondering some past mistake.

Oddities: Hikari has an innate ability to sing.

How loyal are you to the king: "The King saved my life. For this, I am indebted to him for the rest of my days." -Hikari

Skills/Talents: Hikari has an innate ability to sing.

Preferred Weapon(s): Hikari uses no weapons. However, she will occasionally read many ancient grimoires filled with different spells of healing.

Power: Light

Abilities: Hikari has a few very useful abilities, all associated with Light. Healing, Prophetic Visions, and, her only offensive spell, Blinding Light.

Healing(Defensive)
Hikari is a reknowned healer throughout Winterfall, curing ailments ranging from minor, to fatal. She has a wide range of knowledge concerning the natural herbs that grow in the region surrounding Winterfall. She can cure poisons, fevers, and other minor injuries. Cuts, bruises, etc. For more serious injuries, a broken arm for instance, Hikari must resort to using longer, more complicated methods of healing. These methods require long periods of time, immense concentration, and a peaceful enviroment.

Prophetic Visions(Passive)
Prophetic Visions is one of Hikari's most prevalent powers; many consider it her most important. She can predict the movements of her enemy, as well as many other less important things. The birth of a child? This makes her a very lethal force.

Blinding Light(Offensive)
Blinding Light is Hikari's only offensive spell. She may command the spirits of Light to culminate in a great mass before her. As the spirits of Light accumulate a massive ball of Light will grow until it blots out all else. This will this will stun her enemies, and for anyone who does not shield or close their eyes, ultimately blind them. This is not a method that Hikari prefers to use though.

Limitations: Although Hikari is a force to be reckoned with, she lacks physical strength, and the variety of offensive spells that her comrades possess. Due to her relative helplessness, she is forced to have a more combat oriented guardian travel with her at all times.

Personal History: "I cannot recall where I was born. . . like many things, it has become a faded shred of my past. My first memories are of the bright lights surrounding Winterfall, playing with childhood friends, and coming home to my loving family. Although even that is merely a reflection of a happier time. I could tell you what I do remember, but. . . it is a painful memory."-she hesitated for a moment, but then decided to continue her story-"I suppose you are not here to listen to me complain." Hikari said, her light voice riddled with a sense of disdain.

"I was awoken by the screams of my youngest brother, Kai, and as I rose from my bed, I was greeted by a foul stench." Hikari explained with a grimace widening across her face, "Smoke permeated the room, causing my eyes to produce tears. . . After that, I found myself in the livingroom, staring at the corpses of my mother and father. I. . . I didn't know what to do. I tried to use my powers, but it wouldn't work. I had told them only days before! Why hadn't they listened to me?! I am sorry. . . I need a few moments." Hikari walked out of the room, convulsing with sobs as tears streamed down her face. She was struggling to control her emotions.

A few minutes later, she returned wearing a facade of indifference, and said, "I will bypass the details. My family was murdered in a raid. My family murdered, and my home burned to ashes. My brother was found in the garden, butchered by the axes of our enemies. His body was not even cold when I saw crowds land on him, and begin to feast. It was then, and only then, when my visions were proved correct, that The King took me into his home, and raised me as his own. If he hadn't I would have surely starved, or worse, I would have been raped and murdered by common thugs. I thank him for this. Now is there anything else you would like to know?" She asked me, a sense of finality filling her voice. I knew that even if I pressed her for more information, I would recieve no answer.

"No." I stated simply, and I watched as her back disappeared into the halls of Winterfall Castle.

Theme Song: Blinding by Florence And The Machine

Other: Hikari is a conduit for massive amounts of knowledge, and this has damaged her internally. It would be hard to explain to anyone who is not prophetic. This has made her seem insane to some people, especially when she erupts into her fits of prophesying. When in this state, Hikari can lay out the events of a person's life before them, without regard for the subject's emotions. This has made her seem cruel to some, but she cannot control the words she utters, even if they prophesize grief, death, and pain in a person's future.

Hikari has an innate ability to sing. Her strange sound emanates with a clean aura surrounding a high-pitched voice. Her voice is similar to the singer's in her theme song. (Just if you need a reference.)

Okay, so her theme song is supposed to represent the different events in her life. So please listen to the song from the beginning as you read this! Please imagine that Hikari is the singer. Here, let me explain.

Seems that I have been held, in some dreaming state
A tourist in the waking world, never quite awake
No kiss, no gentle word could wake me from this slumber
Until I realise that it was you who held me under

(If you listen closely you can hear laughing children. This is meant to represent her innocence as a child. In this first stanza she is referring to her childhood. Which is only a faded memory for her, as if it were a distant dream. Even now, she believes she is merely a tourist in this world where things are cruel, harsh, and painful. You must remember, nothing gentle could wake her from this slumber, it had to be something drastic. She is simply pointing that out to emphasize her grief.)

Felt it in my fist, in my feet, in the hollows of my eyelids
Shaking through my skull, through my spine and down through my ribs

(Now things become very fast paced, and almost scary. She is referring to her visions, how she could feel the approach of her family's death. Although, there was little she could do, except feel it coming of course. She was a child though, and no one even believed her stories. What was she to do?)

No more dreaming of the dead as if death itself was undone
No more calling like a crow for a boy, for a body in the garden
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world

(This speaks of her families deaths. In the first line she is saying that she can no longer dream of her deceased family as if they were never dead to begin with. I am sure you can see the connection between the boy in the garden. "No more dreaming like a girl, so in love, so in love." This speaks of her innocence as a child, and how she cannot seem to regain it.)

And I could hear the thunder and see the lightning crack
All around the world was waking, I never could go back
Cause all the walls of dreaming, they were torn right open
And finally it seemed that the spell was broken

(The first line refers to more visions, which she dislikes. In the second line, she speaks of the world waking. This basically means the villagers were like, "Oh shit! That little girl was right!" After this the song basically repeats, you may make of the rest what you will.)

And all my bones began to shake, my eyes flew open
And all my bones began to shake, my eyes flew open

No more dreaming of the dead as if death itself was undone
No more calling like a crow for a boy, for a body in the garden
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world

Snow White's stitching up the circuitboards
Synapse slipping through the hidden door
Snow White's stitching up the circuitboard

No more dreaming of the dead as if death itself was undone
No more calling like a crow for a boy, for a body in the garden
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love, so in love
No more dreaming like a girl so in love with the wrong world

Snow White's stitching up the circuitboards
Synapse slipping through the hidden door
Snow White's stitching up the circuitboard
Synapse slipping through the hidden door

So begins...

The carriage creaked slightly as it traveled along a road that cut a barren swath through the forests. As they progressed, Winterfall grew gradually on the horizon. Inviting them in with it's beautiful pavillions, and lush gardens. It was a paradise, and Hikari had missed the sight of it sorely. Although, The Teardrop Forests were quite a beautiful sight as well.

Inside, Hikari turned her head to look at Akihiro and the strange girl who was The King's daughter supposedly. Akihiro. . . The Guardian of Fire. At the moment, he sat quietly, staring out the window. Perhaps contemplating something that was his own buisness, and none of her own. He was a short man, his dark messy hair twitching in the slight breeze. Nothing especially remarkable about him, however, Hikari had been expecting The Guardian of Fire to be somewhat more. . . driven.

As she gazed in their direction the girl noticed her. The Oracle of Winterfall exchanged a faint smile with the girl and asked, "How do you feel about finally meeting your father?" The question had slipped out almost involuntarily, and she regretted that she had not taken more care to word it delicately. Hikari was not sure how the girl would react. She could answer the question with a simple yes or no, or she could spontaneously begin to cry.

Hikari Neshomaru ~ The Castle Gates

The coach came to an abrupt halt, and Hikari jerked forward with the sudden lack of movement. When she had regained her compsure, Hikari poked her head out of the window of the carriage, and was greeted by the gates of the castle. The man sitting atop the carriage yelled down towards one of the castle guards, "We got two of the guardians here. Let us pass!"

"Well, we got another of one of those supposed guardians right here. He's been sittin' here for a time. Persistent bastard!" The guards erupted into a fit of laughter as they continued to poke fun at this anonymous guardian. Hikari angled her gaze until she held a dark-haired man eating what looked to be a piece of candy in the center of her view.

Hikari exited the carriage and approached the guards, her irritation culminating in a sharp, "Enough!" The guards gazed at The Oracle of Winterfall for a moment, a dumbfounded look impressed deeply upon their faces. And as she scrutinized them with a critical glare Hikari recognized them as two of Winterfall's most audacious imbeciles. "Harold?! Kenar! Let us pass now, or gods help me I will march straight to your houses and tell your wives of your behavior."

The guards appeared very sheepish as they said, "Oracle. . . we had no idea. . ." They frantically called up to the gate director, commanding him to open the gate quickly. "Our must humble apologies Oracle, we had thought this but a hoax."

Hikari had heard their words, but she chose not to answer them. There was no need to antagonize the situation any further, she would make amends with them at a later time. As she passed the mysterious guardian she tapped him on the shoulder and said, "You should come with us."

Without waiting for an answer, Hikari turned her back and boarded the carriage once more, leaving the door open for this man whose name she did not know.

Jea Ledera ~ Rooftop Near The Castle Gates

The brush moved fluidly across the canvas with a skilled hand and genius many don't have the pleasure of seeing. The morning of Winterfall was always a most beautiful time of day to paint...along with it's evenings, noons, twilight, and nights. Jea was a woman going over 60 but not even age could affect her bright smile and natural beauty that flared when her greying brown hair blew in the wind despite the worn wrinkles that riddled her eyes. She'd always love to sit atop her house during the mornings and paint the wonderful scenery that would always emerge. By no means would she ever call herself a famous painter. Life as a painter was indeed a difficult venture, one that brought in little money if they couldn't market themselves to royalty or nobles, and Jea was such a painter. She'd marry a man whom she never loved in the first place to avoid being thrown in the streets, forced to live as a beggar, and give up her aspirations of creating art.

How she survived years living with an ill-drunkard husband she didn't know. Now she just thrived in his death and did her part for the future. No sunset or Winterfall kingdom was on the canvas today though. She had a mission today. Portraits of each entrant that got past the gates to the castle were painted on these canvasses. On one, there was a tall young man with hair that fell down to his cheek, sucking on a piece of candy, an amusing piece indeed, while on another was a blossoming woman with long silver-blond hair that ran down all the way to her back, The Oracle Of Winterfall. Jea took her time with her portrait, making sure every detail was right, hoping deep down she could be sympathetic with Legion.

The time it took to make her face right took it's toll in the next portrait for the taller woman who held a significant tan as it was obviously hasty and not as clearly drawn. It was imperative that she'd get the face right but she was afraid she'd might mess up the details that were right about it. Gorrister told her not to worry about dresses and attire; just to get the face right.

Gorrister ~ Graveyard to Alleyway

It wasn't long before the sunlight attacked the goblin's eyes; forcing him to open them and look to the tombstone in his left and then the one to his right. He cursed himself again and again until his words felt numb and battered. So close. He was so close to ending it all and storming the castle with his followers; to put an end to the rule of kings. By no way was it even Gorrister's fault. How could the soldier have seen the ballista wasn't the problem, the fact that he got skewered by throwing himself in the way for the lineage of nobles and royalty to continue ruling their lives, was truly saddening.

At the time, Gorrister was both angry and wrought with guilt over the outcome that happened, but he managed to stay away that feeling. Keep a calm demeanor until Night arrived, cancelling the attack, and calling for the artist, Jea, to keep track of who goes in and out the castle gates.

The graveyard felt like a proper place to sleep.

It still feels like a proper place but the goblin knew he had to get over this. He had people relying on him and he couldn't afford to mope around the death of an innocent. It wasn't the death of an innocent. He was a soldier. Soldiers die. He lied to himself. He secretly knew that he didn't have to die, that he didn't raise his sword first and tried to cut him too, that he just layed on the floor, in a pool of his own blood. Yet the lie was comforting enough to stand up. Not many people visited graveyards in the morning or at night; but he still took the precaution of getting a cloak.

When he finally get up and stretched his body, he figured out that he was still right on that night, that his drive to pull daring escapes from the guards if they ever saw him, abandoned him then and still abandoned him now. He kept his hood low and looked at the tombstones in the distance. It would be impossible to find the man he inadvertently killed especially since he didn't even know his name and probably wasn't even buried yet. The massive crucifixes that jutted up from the ground mystified him and immediately captured his attention. He pressed his hand up against the cold stone to feel the courseness before pulling back, and turning around. He heaved a sigh and exited the Land of the Dead.

The goblin took his time with his walk, the sorrow slowly whittling away, perhaps maybe he was a little elated with some of his blood flowing again. It would made the task at hand easier; finding the perfect candidate. It has to be someone sane, so that made going to the beggars a little risky. Someone taller then Gorrister himself; which excluded children. No shop-keeps as they don't have the time, and in no way was he going to reward a noble. Someone in a good mood. He was unsure with the people that lay scattered here and there in Snowflake City as they all look like they're in dire need to go somewhere.

Then there was one woman with an ever-so-present smile on her face. Obviously he was taller then the goblin (but then who again wasn't) and her clothing suggested a steady stolen income as it wasn't tattered rags but cloth made for speed. The daggers on her hips didn't dissuade him as he knew with his dirty black cloak; he didn't need to worry about being stabbed and robbed. As she was walking towards him, Gorrister waited, putting his head down until she passed him, before he could walk beside her and ask her a question, a simple question anyone could answer.

"Would you like to fly?"

Lithos Terra ~ The Castle Gates

"Call me that again and I'll hurl a mountain on you two!" Lithos wanted to shout at the guards. He'd rather not, if he would leave immediately. First of all, he doubted if his powers could even move a mountain. Then, he has heard of stories of people who teased the guards and returned to their homes with broken bones. He began to fully understand what have happened. Of course, there was the danger of them getting seriously injured, if not dead. Then he would lose customers, no potter in his condition and state would want that, even the craziest of them.

Lithos sighed out of relief that his prayers have been answered. He turned to the guards and tossed two pieces of candy at them. "Remember to chew them long enough to taste the honey." he advised them. "I wonder why the King even employed such bastards." he mumbled to himself. He looked at the carriage, then to his cart. Seeing that the others have made themselves comfortable inside, he decided to hook up his cart to the back of the carriage and climbed on.

"Thank you, Miss Oracle. I have been resisting the temptation of flinging boulders at them for nearly hours." he humbly told his new acquaintance. He did not see her before, but he did hear about her. He just called her whatever the guards did. He saw another man, shorter than him, and presumingly younger. He felt ashamed to climb into a carriage with exclusive-looking people such as them. He was just a humble potter, if not, one of the best. But that didn't feel like being the wealthiest man in all the lands.

His mind began to flash memories of his family, the ones who died in a war of seemingly no end. He was happy it finally did, but he doubt if this peace would last long enough for his own children to taste.

"Would you care for some, miss?" he shyly asked Hikari, handing out another piece of candy.

Ivan Braginski
~ The entrance to the Sunrise Palace ~

Today was a typical troublesome day. The birds were still as loud as normal and the sunlight was beginning to make his eyes hurt because it was so bright. Ivan squeezed his eyes shut as his lips pursed into his typical pout. He wanted to sleep! Not going into this palace and worked his ass out. The teenager tried to suppress a yawn without much success as he closed his eyes, a bored expression on his face. 'This better be worth it...I'm not working my ass out if I can't afford a sunflower field' The lazy teenager tiredly grasped his backpack and walked to the castle, yawning all the way there 'Troublesome agreement. Troublesome Sky. Troublesome sunlight. Troublesome king...urg' Looking around, Ivan suddenly realized. He was lost...again. Frustrated beyond words, Ivan mumbled under his breath "...troublesome. Now what? Why doesn't this troublesome castle have a map?...". He looked around once again, trying to find some help. Ivan grimaced as he caught sight of a carriage with about 4 or 5 people inside and he cleared his throat. Oh great...what should he do now? Should he ask for help or something? He passed the guards with a lazy wave "...I'm here on a troublesome agreement with the king...please let me pass..." The guards eyed him suspiciously but Ivan just shrugged and took a piece of paper out from his pocket "...here's the troublesome message...it has the king's sign on it...you guys can check..." The guards looked at the paper for a whole minute before grumbled "...yeah, you can pass...just go"

Ivan rolled his eyes and waved his hand in a dismissive manner "...Yeah yeah...thanks..." He passed the guards and tried to catch up with the carriage. He saw there were two men and a woman inside the carriage and he cleared his throat, trying to find the right word. Man! This was so troublesome! "...Ehem...Is it too troublesome if I come with you to the Castle...err...I'm kinda lost..."

Hikari Neshomaru ~ Castle Entrance

Hikari raised an eyebrow as the strange man held out a candy to her. Slowly, she reached towards the man's hand and grasped the piece of candy, giving him a slight nod. Moments later, she deposited the treat into her pocket. She would save it for a time when merriment was more appropriate. Perhaps a day when important matters were not so close at hand.

"Thank you, and please do adress me as Hikari. Do not heed Harold and Kenar's words. This is not the first time they have behaved like fools, and unfortunately I doubt it will be the last." Hikari explained, a faint smile playing across her lips as she reminisced on their rather humorous antics, "It is funny, they are near their thirtieth year, and yet they still act as if they are no more than the sneering children I grew up with."

As the carriage came to a stop, the coachman climbed down, and elegantly opened the door. "We have reached our destination, Snowflake Castle." He said collectively with a dignified expression. Hikari let out an exasperated sigh, and, along with her newfound companions, alighted from the luxurious carriage to the kempt gardens of Snowflake Castle. It was a landscape that Hikari was too familiar with; she had lived here most of her life after all.

When she began to walk, Hikari was met with some resistance from her sore legs. She hadn't stretched them the entire trip, and she was not given the chance to relieve herself, which only exacerbated her bitter mood. As Hikari, Akihiro, Lithos, and Lara ascended a flight of curved marble stairs the pitter pat of unfamiliar footsteps filled Hikari's ears.

Behind them, in an effort to remain inconspicuous, another guardian approached, and hid herself among the backs of Akihiro and Lithos. And before The Guardian of Light could contemplate the appearance of this black-haired female, another newcomer approached the group, donning a broad, warm grin. And, to her dismay, yet another staggered towards them, as if he was drunk.

Hikari stared blankly at the three of them for a moment, turned back to the group, and then said, "The ballroom is this way, you may all follow me. The King should be waiting there."

She then hurried off down the main hall of Snowflake Castle, then walked down a highly decorated corridor, which opened into a large banquet room. The room was large, with golden wallpaper, and elegant, cloth-covered tables set with a breakfast fit for ten kings. It was lit by hundreds of candles, which gave the room a warm feel. And that is not even mentioning the temperature.

Hikari took a seat at one of the tables and watched, one by one, her companions filed in the large white double-doors. The King was nowhere to be found, but Hikari had a badgering suspicion he was romping around in some flower-dotted field with one of his many anonymous concubines. Either that, or he was being pestered by his two insolent wives; Hikari could never stand to see women behave so foolishly over one man.

Although, that was completely out of her control.

Lara Willard ~ Snowflake Castle~Main Hall

Lara was sitting in the carriage just staring out the window. She thought she heard someone taking to her, but she was so wrapped in her own world that she couldn't hear her. Before to long the carriage had stopped and she was jerked back into reality. She could hear screaming coming from outside, but she didn't notice what it was all about. She really just wanted to see her father, and then go to her room and be left alone for the night. Although she was very happy that these two Guardians has gone to get her, and tried to talk to her, even though she wasn't paying much attention. It made her feel somewhat welcomed to her new life.

When they has gotten out of the carriage and stepped into the court yard she looked at the size of her new how. It was quite larger than any building she had ever seen before, and she was in awe of it. "The ballroom is this way, you may all follow me. The King should be waiting there." she heard the blonde lady said. She believed her name was Hikari, but she couldn't quite remember. With her mother's will being held tight in her hand Lara nodded and followed the lady, along with some of the other Guardians. When they had gotten to the meeting area, she looking around again in awe. She had never seen a place more beautiful than here. She had noticed that people were taking a seat, and took a seat a bit away from everyone else, but only about three chairs away from the group. She sat there, letter in hand, in her mother's best kimono, waiting to finally meet her father after 19 long hears of never hearing about/from him.

Lithos Terra ~ The Castle

"Of course, Miss Hikari. I apologize for that." Lithos replied. He was still the humble potterer he has been for years and found comfort in keeping himself that way. He unhooked his cart and settled it where he knew no one would bump into it. He then followed Hikari into the castle. Never had he thought that he would enter the structure. He turned to the other Guardians and shrugged. If he was going to stay there with them, he might as well get used to their appearance and behavior.

The day seemed to tire Lithos. If you were stuck outside a castle with noisy guards throwing insults at you, your body would be as tired as your ears. But he felt something different inside him. As if, his powers began to evolve. He felt footsteps, but not his. Then the feeling disappeared. It was a new experience for him, since all he knew was moving stones and the ground itself, but he didn't know he could actually feel what the Earth does.

To be honest, Lithos found it more horrific than amazing. He had much more to practice. He knew that first he must master moving even stone that was touched, but that seemed difficult, if not, impossible. But he reminded himself, if he could make a nearly indestructible pot, he should be able to move a nearly indestructible wall.

He shook his head only to discover that he was standing there for a few minutes. Embarrassed, he moved to a seat farthest from the end where he knew the king himself would sit. He turned and looked closer at the other guardians and saw a young man with a sunflower, a seemingly more mature one whose appearance made you feel like you were going to be his next victim. Then there was a woman who seems to be a master in combat, the shorter man from the carriage, and one who looks like the son of some rich landlord. He turned to his left and saw what seems to be the king's daughter and the woman named Hikari, the one who helped him get inside. He turned his thoughts to that moment, and realized that knowing your opponent gives you a sharper edge. He knew quite a lot about the kingdom's residents, but he doubt it was strong enough for blackmail. Then he realized two more things: he forgot to tell her his name and that he is older than she.

Nevertheless, he ignored that thought, for he knew that the king employed him as a protector, not an infiltrator.

Claire Sawyer ~ Main Hall

Claire entered the large hall along with everyone else, there were tables strewn around, all surrounded by chairs. Claire didn't sit down. She always got fidgety whenever she wasn't on her feet. If she were sitting and she was attacked then she might not be able to keep up. She couldn't risk that. Besides it felt much more natural for her to stand than sit. She walked to the side of the room and leaned against a pillar, crossing her arms.

She took the opportunity to study her fellow guaridans. There was a beautiful woman with flowing blond hair who she percieved as a strong leader. Claire liked that in people. There was the younger boy with sandy blond hair who seemed to be cursing under his breath every few minutes. The boy with short blond hair seemed to be at peace with the situation. There was a littlg girl here too, but she wasn't a guardian. Claire had heard a little about the King's daughter but noticed how she sat by herself and seemed very nervous. The other three guardians who were all male had black hair like her. Two of them seemed to be distracted by something and the other was just taking in what was around him like her. Claire did not make a move to meet any of them. She had always been a solitary person and sometimes that would tear her up inside but she still didn't fully trust any of these people. Not yet anyway. She would let events unfold for a bit before she introduced herself.

Hikari Neshomaru ~ Castle Gates

King Jelani's absence had began to grate slightly upon Hikari's nerves as she sat awaiting patiently. Where could he be? This was where he agreed he would meet his new guardians! But before Hikari could continue to silently ruminate angrily, a messenger appeared between the large double-doors of the ballroom.

Hikari held her breath as the heavy gaze of the audience slowly fell upon the beleaguered man, but instead of adressing the whole group his eyes settled upon Hikari. A look of relief flashed in the man's eyes, and he approached Hikari with a downturned face. When he reached her, he lowered himself until his mouth was level with her ear. "Oracle, your assistance is needed. Please, follow me." He said in hushed, yet frantic tones.

The Oracle of Winterfall raised herself gingerly from her seat, perplexed as to what this was about, and followed him. Back through the corridor, down the main hall, and out to the lush courtyard that she and her companions had arrived in only fifteen minutes ago. As the messenger lead her around a corner her eyes were greeted by a most gruesome and dreadful sight.

Hikari let out a small gasp, whichthen turned into a sob, and soon she found herself on her knees, dismayed by the copious amounts of blood splattered on the inctricately chiseled masonry of the castle gate. Quickly, she clambered over to the warm bodies of Harold and Kenar, whom she had seen alive and well only such a short time ago.

Carefully, she layed her hands upon their ruined midsections, but there was nothing she could do to stop the bleeding. Oh the horrible bleeding! Even if she were to stitch their ravaged flesh, she was no necromancer, and her childhood friends had long since passed into the void.

Images of the young men who she had watched grow up, even as she herself was growing up, began to flash by in her mind. She thought about the time when Harold had fallen into the lake near The Teardrop Forest, and she laughed as Harold dragged Kenar in with him. Or the time that Kenar was caught thieving from a jewelry store, seeking a gift for the woman who was to become his wife.

Hikari wailed and moaned, absolutely horrified by how easily their life had been extinguished. But soon, her grief turned to anger. A burning uncontrollable rage that shook her entire being. "Who did this?" She asked the messenger, who had stood by and watched her entire display with a studied indifference.

He coughed and then answered, "We have not found whoever was responsible for this atrocity, but the guards are looking for anyone suspicious."

"When they are found. . . I will make them suffer tenfold what I have. And they will mourn as Harold and Kenar's wives shall. I vow this. . ." Hikari declared, her eyes burning with a hatred that she had become very familiar with over the course of many wars in Winterfall. Each of them always seemed to take just a few more. Perhaps this was why Hikari was so cautious when it came to love and affection.

"Is there nothing you can do for them? There are more."

"No, they have left this world, and I could not bring them back even if I wished to." She said as she reached over and closed her comrade's eyes with gore-covered fingers. Without looking up from the pale faces of her deceased brethren, Hikari ordered, "Bring me a wash basin, and spread word of this throughout the city. There is a murderer on the loose, and I would not deign to have this fate fall upon anyone else. I will deliver this news to King Jelani myself."

"As you command, Oracle." The messenger answered, and then hurried off to fufill her wishes. Yet, something still lingered on Hikari's conscience. Why hadn't her visions alerted her of their fates?

Akronea – Snowflake City

After satisfying her desire to gaze at the entirety of the place she would soon refer to as just another part of her domain, Akronea leapt from her perch and landed near where she had begun her climb. Even with the entirety of her armor gone so that she looked like an everyday human with a jagged tail swinging behind her, the impact of her body against the ground sent a ripple of cracks out in a radius of about a foot. Ignoring the shoddy workmanship of her vicinity, she retrieved her cleaver from the wall she entrusted it to and began making her way back through the alleyways that she had take. Even though she had an atrocious learning ability, the Elemental still had a good memory and was able to retrace her steps, including the brief moment in the main streets.

This time however, she was able to avoid causing any property damage, that is, unless you count the clothing of the man she all but trampled. It was unlikely that he would die but when she had burst forth from the darkened passageway the man found an abnormally heavy shoulder breaking a few of his ribs and sending him into the wall on the opposite side. It was a shame really, she hoped during the event to kill the man for his foolishness and disrespect, but his insignificance meant that she wouldn't waste any more time on him than she already had. At this point she was roughly half way to her destination and the scene of her brutality from such a short time ago.

Now, the reason Akronea was leaving was rather simple, though vain. During the dismemberment, the evisceration, the gore, she had found herself covered in not just the blood of the weaklings, but also a fair amount of the disgusting things that she always reviled having inside her as well. She had spent the past couple of days at the neck whose name she couldn't care less about and found the cool water relaxing and fully capable of removing her sulfuric scent; she now sought to remove the stench of human carnage. Other than simple cleaning of the disgust she found herself covered in, the cool water had become a bit of an addiction over the two days she had spent there; she spent most of her time in it and more often than not could be found asleep with most of her body submerged.

Even so, the reason she was backtracking, even though another exit was likely closer, was far less carefree. Since she is fully aware of her incredible lack of subtlety, she knew that the entrance she had used should now find itself restocked and hopefully with even more than the paltry few that were closer to an art project than an actual fight. And as she came out of the last alleyway and into the light of her grand work, she was not left disappointed; while there was certainly more guards to slaughter with ease, Akronea was more excited about the presence of a young girl crouched over some of the splatter. Before any of those who had actually noticed her could take any more than a gasp of air in response, she had launched the great cleaver that had been weighing her down throughout her travels as if it were a javelin. As it struck one of the hapless men in his abdomen and pinned him to the wall, no one was left unaware of her arrival. "I'll be taking a prize away from this massacre." She let her hungry smirk reappear on her face as she stared intently at the young girl and primed her legs for an attack.

Hikari Neshomaru

"We will nee-" Hikari had began to say to one of the guards, but before she could finish her thought she felt a whoosh of air only inches from her face. Alarmed, she turned back to see the guard she had been adressing pinned against the stone wall of the city entrance, a huge sword protruding from his waist.

Hikari's neck snapped in the direction the hilt of the blade was pointing, and there standing between two buildings was a young girl. She was coated with layers of blood and gore, and she stood with a smug look upon her face. Disbelief was the first emotion to surface, but it was soon replaced by anger.

However, The Oracle of Winterfall was no fool. She knew that this was not a battle she would win. If this demon child had killed Harold, Kenar, and so many other guards with ease, she would make short work of the vulnerable healer. Hikari stood for a moment, her gaze darting this way and that, and then she fled into a nearby alley.

Hikari had only one advantage. She knew this city far better than this abomination could. After all, she had grown up here, but whether that would be enough, only time would tell. She darted between two large buildings, and then turned a corner, sprinting until her heart could take no more.

Akronea – Snowflake City

With the guards reacting to the scene exactly how you'd expect–aggressive readiness with a slight hint of that mortal fear–the main target of the moment had reacted by first looking towards Akronea and then in every other direction. When she darted down one of the confusing alleyways, the Elemental readjusted her position and launched herself onto the wall of a nearby building instead of at the easy kills in front of her. She scaled the wall with ease and hurried to the opposite side, just in time to see the young woman turn a corner. She lunged across the rooftop gap and began her chase. Using her hands to give her a quick boost, she flung her body in the estimated direction of her prey and, upon landing, put her bare feet to work.

The overly dressed woman wouldn't be able to outmatch her in a test of speed and agility, but if given enough time could easily lose Akronea in the city. Reaching the expected area she looked down to see the girl gasping for air and trying as hard as she could to keep going. The Elemental leapt from the building and landed just behind the noticeably exhausted woman, bearing no sign of fatigue or even the hint of exertion. With the sinister smirk still maintained upon her face, she began carving up the stone walkway with the point of her tail, causing that ghastly scraping sound people are so fond of hating. Any continued resistance would serve as nothing but an annoyance for the being that would prefer nothing more than the cool waters of the lake at this point.

Hikari Neshomaru ~ Snowflake City

Hikari's heart beat like a hammer on cloth, causing a dull thud that emanated throughout her whole body. There was no way she could outrun her, but perhaps she wasn't as strong as she appeared. Hikari held up an outstretched palm, magic flowing through her being. First it started in the well of her body, then it directed itself through the veins in her arm, and finally, the magic settled in her hand. Hikari manipulated it until there was a luminescent mass at her fingertips.

"What is your name, child?" Hikari asked calmly in an even tone as the girl approached, her devilish tail scraping against the myriad of stones beneath their feet. It curdled Hikari's blood, but she was determined to keep a calm facade maintained upon her face. The magic at her fingers was purely for healing purposes, but perhaps she could trick this girl into believing she was an all-powerful mage. If this failed, she only had one other alternative.

Akronea – Snowflake City

The Elemental's eyes narrowed at the sight of the condensing magic and the smirk she had worn most of the day was replaced with a scowl. She would not have to deal with the girl's unwillingness to surrender along with the stench and feel of human soaking into her skin. "I am Akronea of the Blasted Lands and your glowing fingers are nothing in the face of one who has spread desolation across the lands." Her smirk quickly returned as her tail stopped grinding against the stone and rose to a more practical position. "It will be better if you submit now, I'd enjoy having a fight amongst the gore and the slaughter of people who would otherwise be alive. You seem like you wouldn't though."

Even with her offer for an easy surrender had been provided, she bent her knees into a position somewhat similar to that of her mere moments ago, when she was ready to slaughter a new batch of guards. To make her point slightly more poignant, these hapless guards could be heard just beyond the corners leading to the two's location. Her smile flickered for a moment with a more contemplative moment where she considered if soaking herself in more blood would help wash away some of the more ripe coatings of her body.

Hikari Neshomaru

A cold glare replaced Hikari's serene features, but it was met by a look of even fiercer proportions. There was nowhere to hide. There was nowhere to run. There was no way to outsmart this foul creature. Furthermore, Hikari would not even contemplate trying to fight it. And to make matters worse, she heard the trample of approaching guards.

The Oracle of Winterfall could not bear to have that sort of blood on her hands. She let out a sigh of defeat, her weariness and anger seeming all the more intense as she stared into the remorseless eyes of this murderer. "Very well, Akronea of the Blasted Lands, I submit to you. Do with me what you will, but know this Akronea." Hikari said, her voice growing venonmous, as if their were poison lacing her words, "Your death will be slow and miserable. In your last moments, you will beg for my clemency, but recieve none. And then, you shall suffer, as I have, while all life flees from your veins."

Perhaps this girl expected Hikari to fear death, but admittedly, Hikari craved the eternal solace of the grave. She had lived. She had lived for not only herself, but for many other people. Experienced their life, from beginning to end. As she was about to do with Akronea.

Hikari stepped forward and grabbed hold of the girl's hand. As the tips of their fingers brushed against one another, hundreds of memories rushed forward to Hikari, all demanding a similar amount of attention. For what was hours, but only seemed like seconds to Akronea, Hikari sifted through the recollections of this girl. She saw the great volcanoes of her homeland. She felt the warmth of burning villages against her skin. She experienced the salty taste of blood on her tongue. It was quite overwhelming, the amount of death this seemingly fragile being had caused. It was almost as if the knowledge of these acts brought blame upon Hikari.

When Hikari was satisfied with the knowledge she had acquired, she extricated herself from the intimate contact of their minds. "Let us leave here at once, and do not harm any more innocent people. Lest you wish to kill me here and now. An interesting prospect, is it not Akronea?" She said mockingly as she waited for Akronea to sweep her off her feet, although not quite as romantically as Hikari had always envisioned. She knew that anyone capable of lugging around a massive sword as Akronea had done, would be able to pick up her one hundred and nine pound body with ease.

Akronea – Snowflake City

Throughout the rather odd moment of the girl's actions, Akronea found herself stumbling upon the words that had been spoken. Clemency? Innocent? Prospect? None of these registered amongst the childish vocabulary of the Elemental, though the general message was still easily understood, and that was where the girl had made her mistake. The beginning had left Akronea satisfied with the girl's submission, though the obvious ramblings of the slow death inherent to all Elementals was rather unnecessary. Unfortunately, after feeling the touch upon her hand, the girl had spouted something that seemed remarkably similar to an order. This would not bode well for the woman clad in white.

The inquisitive face she had worn throughout the one-sided dialogue was not replaced with one of annoyance; she wouldn't stand for those beneath her issuing orders. Since the girl in white had already closed the distance, the next part came quickly. The powerful hand that had tossed aside guard after guard sprang forward and clutched the girl's neck, lifting her into the air. "I will not hear one in submission giving me orders." As she spoke the wicked tail that had been passively moving behind her lifted itself and leveled off to the right of Akronea's head, the ending point mere inches away from the girl's face. "Submit or I mix your blood with that of a thousand men." The echoes of the soon to be slaughtered guards were fast approaching and to ensure that an answer was heard, the powerful hand lessened its grip upon the neck and instead held the girl up by the bottom of her chin.

With her threat clearly heard, her tail added to the intimidation by pressing its very tip against the notch at the base of her throat. So far no blood was drawn but the tip was beginning its slow descent and would tear any obstruction that it was met with. With this the smirk returned to Akronea; she was sure this would be the end of it.

Kyran Devine *** Ballroom

Kyran looked up, slightly alarmed as the person came running. He recognized him as Lithos... but wasn't positive. "Fellow...Guardians... we have...a problem...outside. D-Dead bodies...at gate...Hikari...missing...don't know where...please..." Well... Kyran wasn't sure exactly who Hikari was, but by the way the guy seemed, she must have been pretty important.

"Just breathe, catch your breath. I'm sure we'll find her." Kyran tried to sound reassuring as he backed out toward the exit. Then Setz said something but Kyran barely heard him. He was already walking out. What was the point of talking when actions meant so much more... especially in a time like this? His pale blue eyes widened at the sight of the blood splashed all over. He sure had not been exaggerating. Bending his knees slightly, basically on instinct, Kyran produced a simple but sharp looking knife. It was always best to be prepared. Then he remembered. Hikari was the light guardian. Crap. They'd better find her quickly. She was an important asset to the team. Had he talked to her before? Kyran wasn't sure. But they were colleagues now and that had to mean something.

He expertly surveyed the scene. Where could she have been taken to? They must've been strong if they caused such a mess...

Hikari Neshomaru

Hikari peered down at the girl who clutched her neck. Her legs suspended in the air, she said, "I have already submitted to you, fair Akronea." A pleasant smile grew on her face, almost mockingly, but not quite. "Now, I was simply saying that we should leave this place, before my fellow guardians come, and put an end to you."

Hikari would not give this demon the satisfaction she desired. She wanted to see Hikari scream. She wanted to see Hikari beg for her life. She wanted to diminish Hikari until she was nothing but a ghost of her former self. Well, Hikari would not have it. In fact, she would rather die.

She knew the danger, the prospect of her imminent death. Although, it all did not seem to register to her, even with the pointed tip of Akronea's tail glistening with beads of blood that belonged to her.

Argene Cybele Wildrose ~ Snowflake City's Alleys

Despite going first, Argene spent more time up in the air observing the damage caused by the way. She watched as Amora flew off with Fawn straight for the castle. Soaring around at a gentle pace, she continued to look around, but making sure to run her eye through the forests. Many of her friends were there. As of now, there didn't seem to be any harm done, Fawn would be delighted to know that. She also felt the presence of Garoo, her pet mongoose roaming the streets. That was when she realized she had completely forgotten about the poor thing, especially since she was in a hurry.

She gave Zahavah instructions to dive down. During the descent, she noticed two figures down an alley. A young woman and a...some kind of...child of abomination. Argene could already smell the pungent odor of blood reeking from the child, as it has it's tail blade close to the woman's throat. She was too far to reach in time, especially if the child decided to slash the woman's throat at the moment, so she relied on Garoo instead, telepathy transmitting her calls. In one quick instant, Garoo dashed over and jumped in between both of them and sank his fangs into the tail. A futile attempt, and through the bonding of their minds, Argene could feel Garoo's teeth jarring and the rusty taste of blood that seemed to be reeking from the child herself, instead of from a wound. The mongoose clutched onto the woman's clothing and stared right at the child, hissing out dangerously.

Argene and Zahavah took the chance and dived in between the two people, hoping to scare the child away, or at least place distance between them. Instead, the child leaped away along with the woman and Garoo. Zahavah cautiously tapped her hooves on the cobblestone ground and brayed softly. Garoo scurried away, barely evading the tail blade and ran towards Argene's outstretched hand, crawling up hastily leaving a few scratches on Argene's arm, before settling on her shoulder. He gave out another threatening hiss.

"I don't know what you are...but I don't want to fight.Let go of the lady and leave." she said firmly, with a small hint of pleading underneath her facade.

Through their telepathic link, Argene could feel Garoo's canines aching and Garoo's dissatisfaction. She sent an apology to him, which the mongoose grudgingly accepted. After that, she cut off their bond, not wanting Garoo's toothache to affect her concentration. She had to be alert if she didn't want to end up dead.
