Marceline Fulton

kitsune

0 · 104 views · located in Basement

a character in “The Unnatural Game: The Playtester”, as played by nightrambler

Description

Description: Tall, willowy frame, dark hair and amber eyes. Usually wears outfits that look thrown together, because they are. Fanged teeth, pale skin, long nails that are painted black. 18, female.

Personality: open with strangers and knows how to socialize well so that she can trick people into giving her what she wants, which she does often. She doesn't trust easily and has no friends as she has no time to make any. She's also very independent and headstrong, as a result of being alone for so long. Very wise and perceptive of her surroundings/situations she's in.

Abilities: She's a kitsune so she can shapeshift/morph, as well as manipulate energy and other people's thoughts. She relies heavily on her basic instincts to get her out of trouble, and doesn't know the full extent of her own power.

Background: Was adopted as a child, left home at the age of ten to try and figure out her own powers, had been alone ever since (eight years) and wants to know where she came from. Traveled alone around the country with only a few supplies to get her through.

With a screech, and a flash of light, Marceline appeared in front of the Puppet Master. She was curled up as a sleeping fox would be, the silhouette of a bushy tail behind her legs. Immediately she jumped up, trying to get into a proper defensive position, but her legs were unsteady.

"Where am I? What do you want?" She howled, the one light in the room flickering with her voice. The man facing her said nothing, just pointed to the only other seat behind her. She sat down.

Dexter raised his eyebrows at the sudden flashy arrival of Marceline, and involuntarily leaned back in his chair when she yelled. He remained silent as she took her seat. His eyebrows went up even further when he saw her tail and wolf ears. No one told me that she was a kitsune... Catching the ring in his hand and sliding it back onto his middle finger, he cleared his throat and spoke in a slightly amused tone.
“You’re in the basement. Don’t ask me where, because I don’t know either. You’re here to learn how to live and breathe in this universe of ours, Miss Fulton. My name’s Dexter Montague, but you can call me Dexter.” He paused, then continued, “I’ll be teaching you the basic etiquette of socializing, thinking,” He gave a wry smile, “-and combat.”
He stood up from his seat, and beckoned her to do the same.
"Before we start, I'd like you to know that it is a common courtesy to tag yourself in your posts, especially if it's your introductory post in a RP."
He smiled again.
“Now that we have that out of the way, do you have any preference of which of the three basics you’d like to learn first?”

Dexter nodded, and put his two first fingers on his head. “It’s really easy. When you are thinking a thought that you want other authors to read, simply italicize it.” Like so. This is a thought that you, as the author, can see, but Marceline cannot.
He continued, “In our universe, you’ll see a button with a italicized ‘I’ on it. Simply type out your thought, highlight it, and then click that button.”
As he watched her, he noticed she seemed to be disconcerted. “Any questions?” He asked. I wonder why she's so nervous?

"No. I understand." Marceline told him. She wanted to try it out though. I wonder what he'll teach me next. Wait, do I decide? I hope people in this universe are nice. Maybe they can teach me how to be a better kitsune.
"What now?" She asked, feeling a little calmer.

Dexter smiled, pleased with her progress so far. It was evident that she could think, at least.
"Good! You've got it! Our next one was going to be socializing, but I didn't realize that we were currently practicing it until...just now." He couldn't help a chuckle escape his lips.
"So you've got both those basics down, which leaves our last one." He cracked his knuckles and flexed them dramatically. His smile became a grin as he reached behind him and unclipped a thin black combat knife from under his seat, and motioned for her to do the same. He balanced the knife between two fingers, then deftly twirled it so it was nestled in his palm, point upwards.
"Combat."

"Wha-?" She couldn't stop the word coming from her lips. It was a rare occurrence for someone to surprise her. He's not going to make me do anything...crazy, right? She could never imagine actually stabbing or slashing at a person, unless it was absolutely necessary. She'd only ever had to use physical violence a couple times. Marceline took a small step back, bumping into the chair behind her.
She quickly ducked down and unclipped her knife from under it, holding it in a firm grip. There was no way she could do any fancy twirls like Dexter had, but at least her hands weren't shaking.

"I won't hurt anyone." She stated, and this time there wasn't a tremor in her voice. "So what exactly are we doing with these?"

Dexter looked at the ground for a second before replying, the smile on his face turning a bit apologetic. “It is normal to not want to fight, but sometimes, you’ll find yourself in a confrontation that you can’t avoid, so it’s a good idea to...ah, learn what it’s like to fight, to feel and inflict pain.”
He held his knife out in front of her, casually leveling its tip at her. Giving an easy grin, he said, “In this RP, anything can happen. I, as a character, was made very quickly, so it’s ok to hurt or even kill me. I won’t mind, as my only purpose is to teach you, and if you manage to hurt me, you'll have all the basics and my job will be done."
He beckoned with his free hand. "Try and hit me.”

Marceline looked around very quickly, eyes dashing about in a panic. Hit him? I couldn't do that. The tip of the knife was pointed at her, only a few inches away from her chest. She gulped and tried a move she'd learned from watching a self-defense class once. Using her left arm she swiped away the arm in front of her, and with her right she hit him below his ribcage. But she'd forgotten about the knife she was holding. At the last second she flicked her wrist so that the back of her hand hit him instead.

Dexter made no resistance when she smacked his knife arm away, and winced when she hit his ribcage. He had been expecting the sharp sting of the blade to slide into his side, but instead he felt a sort of dull smack. It hurt, but not nearly as much as he expected it to. He smiled at her and tossed his knife behind him. It hit the cement floor with a quiet clattering noise. “Nice work, Miss Fulton.” He said with a smile.
“Absolutely marvelous. I just have one thing to say, and that is that when you’re attempting to hit or shoot someone, you, as a general rule, cannot state in your post that you made contact with that person. That too, kind of qualifies as a form of godmodding. What if I had intended to suddenly move away?”
He shifted his position into a more lecturing position. “If that knife had been aimed at me, I would be dead, and if my creator were not so generous and good-natured, he would probably be very pissed off that you stabbed his character without his permission. In a normal fight, the author of your target decides whether or not you hit his or her character, and most of the time, you will. Also, great work on tagging you and I in your last post.”

His pose relaxed and he spread his arms out wide. “Now that you know all that, I congratulate you, Miss Fulton. You’ve successfully made it through all the basics of text roleplaying, and did so quite gracefully, if I do say so myself. It looks like my work here is done.” He gave a small slightly sad smile. “I hope you have many wonderful adventures out there in the Multiverse, Miss Fulton.”

"Sorry." Marceline mumbled, but she couldn't help smiling back, fanged teeth and all. "Thanks, Dexter." She said, putting the knife back onto the chair behind her. "Even though we sort of just met, I'm gonna miss you."
Marceline extended her hand in a farewell shake.

Dexter took her hand in his own and shook it. Her sharp smile might’ve, at one point, made him go cold inside, but right now, all he felt was happiness. He smiled back, and sighed.
“This roleplay is over, but I’m sure I’ll see you again, Miss Fulton. In another place, in another life.”
He rolled back his sleeve, and checked his watch. “Time to go.”
With his free hand, he twisted the outer rim of the watch, which made a clicking noise in response. He let go of it, then glanced up at her with a final smile. He lightly tapped the face of the watch, and with a small popping, sizzling noise, disappeared, leaving a few stray sparks in his wake.
