Jacob looked at the students before him. Why was he filling in for the survival and hand to hand combat class any ways? It wasn't that he couldn't, more so that he didn't really like to partake in combat even if just simulated for training. "There are times those of you whom are basically just a regular human are not going to be able to beat a foe no matter how well you are trained. But that doesn't mean you can't slow them down a bit. And forget any notion that they'll be chivalrous you're not always going to have the time to draw a weapon or get into your stance. I'm here to teach you what to do when you cant do those things." One of the line of students went to say something, "It's too bad that...... no never mind it was stupid."He said with a sigh.

Jacob frowned and walked up to him. "You'd be amazed how many times what I initially thought to be a stupid idea wound up playing a crucial role in pulling my ass out of the fire. Let's hear it. what's your 'stupid' thought." The student sighed again and spoke in a slightly defeated tone, "It's too bad we couldn't just reason with them." The rest of the class laughed. "Actually, guys he doesn't have the worst idea in the world. More times then not trying to reason or talk down a superior foe from a physical confrontation can be your greatest survival skill." Jacob said with a smile and patted the young mans shoulder before going on to finish the class. This hole ordeal was exhausting and he didn't like fighting no matter how good he was at it.

"First volunteer step forward." A young man who was dressed like a Detroit local from one of the rougher neighborhoods. Short, Caucasian, baseball cap at a forty five degree angle, severe scaring across his jaw indicating a knife wound. Prognosis? Likely to select the pistol. The thought process went threw his head as he gauged the young man. With a large assortment of weapons on the table, Jacob motioned towards them. "Pick your weapon. Keep in mind the firearms if you select them are marker pistols and rifles they will hurt but they will not kill any one; but just to hedge our bets lets avoid head shots people." Sure enough the 'thug life wannabee' picked the pistol. Jacob lifted his right leg pulled out a sai then the other. The one in his right hand was pointed forward the other held flush against his left forearm pointed down. "What you gonna do bringing knives to a gun fight teach?" The thug jeered as Jacob moved forward with deftly preciseness. The student was less then 21 feet away he barely had time to raise the marker pistol. The first chalk marker round tore into his coat as it flapped in the wind but other wise missed Jacob entirely the student didn't have time to squeeze off another round. Jacob was on him. He quickly quipped his left hand up against the underside of the pistol causing it to fly up into the air out of the startled students hand. His right hand flicked releasing it's blade which slipped right into the trigger guard and soared through the air embedding into a near by tree. Jacob was now behind the student holding him in a half nelson with the broad side of the knife against his throat. "You're dead tell me why..." The student initially struggled but then stopped 'tapping out.' As Jacob released him sheathing his sai and holding out his right hand for the other which instantly returned to him.

"Because you're fast like a freak?" The thug grumbled as Jacob laughed and shook his head no. "My speed is average little less than actually. You're dead because I took my time when you stepped up to observe you. I figured you were going to go with range and make no attempt to talk me down. I planned for you to use that weapon and that tactic and you played into it." The student protested, "I asked you what you were going to do with a knife in a gun fight!"

Jacob sighed in disbelief, He couldn't believe he was hearing that was what passed for reasoning these days. "Ok people listen up. Put your self in your opponents shoes for a moment. You're an immortal bad ass who has lived for over two thousand years. You have been trained in all matter of bad assery and are largely immune to bullets. But this little shit thinks all that time is effectively for not, and that his nifty toy has just negated any edge you've earned. How disrespected do you feel right now? There is a difference between antagonizing your enemy and reasoning with them. Go on get out of here guys class dismissed We could probably all use a stretch. Reconvene here in two hours."

Off to the side a woman stood clapping her hands slowly, "Bravo, bravo, Jacob." She said speaking in heavily accented English. "I see you've learned a few tricks finally." She added as she approached. With the exception of the table, it's weapons, and a few mats for padding, the room was largely empty. Pausing to look at the selection of items on the table she frowned as she came across the pistol. "You realize someone is going to have to teach them how to use at one of these things the right way, non?" Aceline remarked in distaste of the items on the table.

"Either way, it's good to see you. How have they been treating you?"

Jacob smiled and waved to Aceline as she approached. "Not to badly They set up a dock for my barge well in advance of my arrival and laid the foundation with a basement for me to build my garage on." He glanced to the weapons on the table. "Unfortunately that's an inevitable conclusion. First I'm going to teach them how to avoid using it if they can. Most of these students are just human. There's one or two werewolves and windigo from the Mackinac tribe in the lot but when they're not all wolfish form they're just as squishy as the rest. If they go in guns blazing like Council Member Summers used to do.. they're just going to get killed. So first I need them to remember they're not invincible and that they need to try to talk their way out of a fight before they resort to violence. How was the trip here? I can see to getting you set up in one of the visiting officers quarters in the administration building until you're settled in."

Aceline laughed at Jacob describing the students as squishy, he was the only other person she could think of that would use that descriptor for their students. "Good." She said with a nod, as she reached over and picked up a knife, briefly examining it. "Blunted, but still painful. It'll teach them a good lesson." She added as she flicked on the switch that generated a mild electric shock when the blade was contacted. Turning the electricity on the knife off, she set it back down onto the table.

"Long, arduous, complicated. Getting anything through US Customs is a pain in the rear." Aceline explained with a slight shrug. "Would you? An 11 hour flight, plus time zones doesn't exactly allow for a human to sleep or really any sort of decency." She added upon hearing that Jacob would see to wrangling with the lodging.

He chuckled a little bit and walked towards the exit. The administration office was across the compound which actually wasn't that long of a walk. One could choose to walk threw the star fort to get to it or go around. One was only fifty foot shorter distance then the other. Jacob walked down the small road that over looked the back side of the star fort. At the corner he turned left and walked to the large structure on the left that was on a hill directly over looking the star fort. On the exterior it had signs that read things like 'condemned' and 'do not enter' this was of course a glamour put up to keep people out. Once they entered and the computers read the ID Badge in Jacobs pants pocket it allowed the glamour for the two of them to drop revealing a well organized, clean and borderline luxurious office space with a small staff. Grabbing a key off the desk he handed it to Aceline. "Up to the top floor second door on the left. It's not much roomier then my barge apartment but it's nice I'll take care of the paper work you go ahead and get some rest."

"As long as it's clean you won't hear any complaints from me." She said taking the key from Jacob. Climbing the stairs to the second floor, she found that most of her bags had already been deposited there without so much as her asking. "Not bad.." She commented before unceremoniously flopping face down into the down comforter and soft mattress on the bed. Soon she was out like a light, without so much as having bothered to take her shoes off.

The room was private, quiet and decently sized. There wasn't really anything she could complain about, especially since most amenities seemed to already be provided. Granted she was grateful she wasn't in charge of much more than signing off on the final certifications, but in a lot of ways found herself slightly envious of the more public facing positions. However, they had hired her for her administrative skills, not her teaching skills; which weren't exactly the best there was.

A few weeks had passed since Aceline had made the big trip over finally. Things were once again in a smooth motion of operation. Jacob had made a change to the uniform code. Because the tourism season was coming into the full swing and encounters with the public more likely. A uniform requirement has been made for all students training on the grounds and inside the star fort. If they were on a training regiment that was to be out side the star fort walls then they would be wearing world war one uniforms and equipment. If they were inside the star fort walls training, then they would be wearing American Civil War uniforms.

Today he had an interesting phone call from the council. An event that he'd forgotten was coming up. A seminar where an expert on vampire court system and defensive magic would be coming. He was under very specific instructions to regard the man with the title he had worked so hard to achieve. Tyrannius. So Today Jacob was walking about in the guest quarters making sure every thing was set up for a three or four day seminar. An important sounding guest deserved only the best. Who was he kidding it could be a low life on a witness protection stent and he'd do his best to make them comfortable and feel welcome.

"Hard day?" Aceline asked spotting Jacob's frustrated and tired demeanor as he walked into the building. As soon as she'd gotten settled and slept, she had reported in early the next day. Soon everyone in the administrative office was put through their paces, and any issues addressed. Soon a formerly disorganized, poorly run office was running like the well oiled machine it should. Work was completed efficiently and on time, Aceline didn't seem to tolerate tardiness or the words 'I can't'.

"It'll get better and you know you can always petition for additional instruction."

"Well they'll thank you for it later, I'm sure." She replied offering Jacob a pat on the arm. "As for the Council, I'm sure they have their hands full with other issues. If you need me to help you with anything, please don't ever hesitate to ask. But, in the mean time word has it that we may be having officers in within the next month to recert for MCU." Aceline continued as she steered Jacob over towards what passed for an office in the old building. There were still a few kinks to be worked out, and ones that ideally didn't involve completely restructuring the inside to fit a modern office.

"But, now we're going to have a seat for tea and you're going to tell me all about this sovereign nation." She said with a patient smile. Aceline could tell Jacob was getting frustrated and overwhelmed with the gravity of his new job, but that didn't stop her from buttonholing him to have tea with her; besides it was almost mid afternoon and time for a break.

Jacob laughed knowing better then to try to struggle against tea. Besides Aceline made good tea Jacob was rather fond of the imposed break time. "You're already helping more then enough. Office work is not my strong suite, and you have the place running like a well oiled machine which makes every ones lives easier." He smiled and sat down as instructed and relaxed into the chair. "As for the sovereign nation of Jackassistan it is a magical land where the occupants learn quickly to keep a spare tooth brush, and work together, because if one messes up, every one suffers equally to instill the understanding that they succeed or fail as a team, so it does absolutely no good to throw one another under the bus." He furrowed his brows at the knowledge that there were more MCU Agents coming to recertify with in the next month. "Can you find me the requirement protocols for recertification so I can review them before running those courses." He popped his neck relaxing. It's true he completely overwhelmed with the gravity of his new job. If not for her presence he'd be completely ungrounded.

Meanwhile across town at 8 mile and Gratiot avenue, on the former grounds of the Michigan State Fair grounds a shadowy figure, an older man with salt and pepper five o'clock shadow rested against and old fair ground building. He had a pair of binoculars, a 35 millimeter camera, and a .38 special service revolver holstered in an ankle rig. His cloths were old and tattered, Khaki pants, a white dress shirt, a grey wool twill vest, green fedora and a London fog rain trench. He would have been any thing but out of place in an novella noir about a used up cop turned private investigator, or about a news paper man with a pension for getting into all the wrong kinds of trouble. The man brought a pack of Marlboro 100's to his lips, gripped the filter of one with his teeth and pulled it out lighting the cigarette casually puffing away. It was a disgusting habit and he knew it, but it also kept the edge down when on a sting. He had a job to do, and that job was to prove that what he saw kill his wife actually existed. The only thing he could think of was what he liked to call 'the bigfoot pragmatism.' There are some in the bigfoot hunting community that believe the only way to serve bigfoots as a whole, is to kill only one so that irrefutable scientific proof exists to show that at least one actual example of the creature exists. So that was his only option. Kill a monster... present it's body, and tadah you have proof that the kind of monster that killed your wife actually exists, and you're no longer number one suspect in the case.

Aceline cringed at the mention of the toothbrush. "That's bordering on the territory of cruel and unusual punishment." She remarked as she poured tea into the cups. "How many?" Aceline then asked gesturing towards the sugar cubes neatly piled neatly in their dish beside the cream. His desire to succeed was obvious, but what would the cost be in the end? Aceline was worried that Jacob would end up burnt out before the next group of recruits could be selected.

"Recertification will likely include weaponry, laws, defensive tactics that have been approved by Council, and any specialization they have. Though specializations may be hard for you to certify for some."

"I'll have to come up with a generalized vocalized test for the stuff that I wouldn't know what to physically look for. I feel that them knowing what they can and cannot get away with except for the most stringent of cases is more important than them showing it to me. A basic proof of understanding should be sufficient." He waved his hand off at the question of sugar cubes. Isis sensing the stress of 'her human' wandered over crawling up into Jacobs lap allowing her self to shrink down into a more manageable lap size of cheetah. {Isis} "Then there's the matter of our most recent guest snooping around prying at our aura's. rude!" Her hair fluffed up on end giving her the appearance of a ball of orange fluff with tiny black spots in Jacobs lap. "What do you mean?" Isis pouted a little. {Isis} "I forget you mortals can't feel when people can't feel someone poking at you're aura... But the wizard was keenly curious about yours in particular. He got a peek at mine and then backed off immediately " Jacob frowned more at the thought. "I'll keep an eye on him. As for cruel and unusual punishment. The mandate that was given to me was treat it like a boot camp. They'll learn that if they work together I'll be fair... Or they'll work together because they all hate me. Either way I win because they'll survive." Jacob smiled one more time and gently pet Isis on the head. "As for the wizard I doubt he has any mal intent. His appointment by the council was legit. I triple verified it. We're new to this organization Isis, they probably view us as akin to civilian contractors. As such it wouldn't surprise me if his presence has a duel purpose of vetting us."

Aceline raised an eyebrow at the mortal comment, but said nothing as she sipped at her own tea. "I don't believe I've had the pleasure of meeting our esteemed guest yet." She said cooly to Isis. There was little that she didn't know about there at the facilities, having quickly wedged herself into the gossip circles upon arrival. It was easier to do her job, but also provided a source of entertainment. "As for our incoming officers, I personally believe that actions can speak louder than words. But, if you want to have them give an oral response to an exam, be my guest. It's perfectly legal." Aceline added, meaning legal not by the laws, but allowed by the Council to her knowledge.

"I'm sure between the two of us we can cobble together something like the oral board from hell." She said with a sweet smile. The Council had asked her to ensure that the curriculum and other paperwork aspects of the facility ran as they had intended. For now she was just grateful someone was keeping Isis busy, instead of the cat going fishing in places she shouldn't.

Jacob's face grew a bemused grin at the mention of 'mortal.' "Uh Isis, we're not... mortals remember?" He commented casually paying special attention to the little 'w' between her ear where the fur was always tufted slightly. Isis yawned and stretched slightly on Jacob's lap before replying, "Sorry love I keep forgetting; I meant mortals, as in the generic term regarding humans. Even gifted ones."

Jacob was about to comment on their guest but his cell phone rang. Picking up he answered in a professional tone. "Historic Fort Wayne, Head Interpreter, Jacob Summers speaking how may I help you?" A very specific catch phrase was uttered on the other end and he offered the appropriate response phrase to verify the line was secure. The person on the other end asked him if he was familiar with the Gorvin family massacre. "Yeah from what I understand the father and husband was the key suspect." Then something was said which made his expression sour. "Demon's.... verified? I see... and he's in the wind? Oh crap that makes it very complicated. I'll advise my people and form a team to assemble my team."

Hanging up the phone he glanced to Aceline with an expression that was anticipatory at best. "Our week just got complicated, a investigative reporter by the name of Michael Gorvin, husband and father of two is the lead suspect in the murder of his family. But the thing is police can't find enough evidence to make it stick." He explained with a tired sigh. "It's just as well that they don't, because he's innocent. The problem for us is demons did it... and he saw it... and now he's in the wind, with a particular set of skills and one mission in life; To prove that demons exist. We need to assemble a team who can bring this guy in gently. We need to talk to him, make him understand why it's dangerous to try to expose demons."

Aceline frowned as Jacob finished talking. "Well neither one of us is qualified for that level of stupid, but I think I can pull two names off our roster of visiting officers to help." She said thoughtfully as she reached over to grab a tablet off the desk. Swiping in and scrolling through the information on the screen, she then turned it around to show Jacob. There were no photos only highlighted text. It seemed that all the Council deigned necessary to send was just a list of names, no photos, no badge ID's to put into the system.

"When you see these two, let me know and I'll pull them into the office here." Aceline explained as she pointed to three names on the list, a man and two women. "I think we can buy some time in the meanwhile, I mean to find this guy or get him moving towards us takes bait right?" She asked, a thought forming in her mind. Bait would get the man's attention, even if it wasn't very good bait. "We'll let a little leak out to the press about say... less than savory hauntings here. He'll come running."

"It's a new facility, things have bugs and I suspect their having to access Council's own servers to verify information." Catherine offered sensing the other's boredom. What little they would be able to glean was another question, she knew most of Bannon's records were easily accessible given the right permissions, as were some of Molly's; however most of her own were Council access only which may have been giving them issue. Setting her coffee and magazine aside, she stood up and went to talk to the secretary. "Could you give me the reason that it takes an hour to check in two officers and a warden?" She asked politely enough, but like the others she was tired of sitting there in the office. Awake at 5, at the airport by 5:30 and on the flight by 6, only to arrive to cold and wet Detroit at 9 had not been anyone's idea of a good morning.

"I'm sorry Warden... Dumitrescu was it? It's just that our servers don't seem to be cooperating with your records or really anyone else's for that matter." The secretary answered sheepishly. He had been trying to keep things running smoothly while his boss was out, but it appeared that murphy's law had decided against that. "I can take verbal verification with a signature from each of you though." The young man offered hoping that would buy him time to figure out what had gone wrong with their system. It had been working the other day just fine, but now it seemed to be rejecting any sort of information.

Molly wrinkled her nose and the nodded. It would mean that they could get through things that much faster. She could wait one hour, but two? "That sounds better than waiting around. I'm pretty sure we'd know if one of us was not who we said, after all." Or at least, she could be certain with Catherine and herself, and reasonably certain that no one else was quite as ridiculous as Kurt could be

The sergeant still wasn't certain whatbrecert would consist of. She was, it seemed, a good deal more overdue than she should be, but for extenuating circumstances. Then again, that just meant that between her own minir criminal record and things blocked due to council business, maybe there would be more trouble with her file than there should be.

Though if that was the logic, this was all Catherine's fault. The woman stretched and reminded herself that she had to tone down any impatience. She had been having control issues lately, ever since the ritual. Impulse control and her ability control had been shot, along with her control over her instincts. It made for a more animalistic Molly. For fucks sake, she had been acting more like a were than a human lately. But she had managed to behave for the flight. Even if she was now itching for action of some kind. Jeez, maybe Karato's death had effected her in weirder ways than just the deep mourning she had only managed to shake enough to be functional and to mask the sorrow.

Catherine just sighed in frustration, nothing ever worked the way it should, and technology like this was one of the points of contention between her and Alexander. On one hand it was nice, but on the other it never worked right and required too much baby sitting; paper you didn't have to babysit and was easier to destroy than electronic records. "Fine, what do you need for a verification?" She asked patiently enough.

"Badge number, full name, date of birth, SSI or other indentifier." The young man said brightly. The question about date of birth caused Catherine to raise her eyebrow, that wasn't exactly something that was shared outside of the Council or privacy with Tatiana. "I see, and you realize that some of these answers won't exactly be mundane?" She replied cooly. "Of course Warden, it's only for our security's sake that we ask this." He said guessing that she like many other unseen was a little bit touchy about one or the other of the questions presented.

Briefly Catherine wondered how well Jacob and Alexander were getting along cuffed together, but so far there hadn't been any emergencies or explosions so she wasn't too terribly worried. It seemed to her like they had just decided to largely behave for the time being; although she couldn't believe Alexander had stooped so low as to start a fight with the kid, rolling around on the parade field like two boys. "Dinner should be interesting." She muttered as she left the classroom and headed across the grounds.

--
"So Jacob, how did you manage to get in this mess this time?" Aceline asked as she wandered into the garage. She was done with most things for today, at least the time critical items, and had shoved other things off till in the morning. Personally she thought the solution that the Warden had come up with was amusing, and probably the easiest way to keep trouble to a dull roar. "I mean it's not everyday you get yourself handcuffed to someone else." She added stifling a snicker.

Molly beamed as she knocked on the door of the garage. "I am here for Isis!" And basically only for Isis, though she had planned on questioning Jacob also. She paused as she took in what she was seeing, and then snickered. "And now to laugh at what I'm seeing. I take it the warden used the tried and true get along handcuffs?" This was amusing, and Molly one hundred percent approved of what she was seeing. Well, if nothing else, it seemed to work, no matter the age of the poor saps that were subjected to it.

Then again, it was hard to get in trouble with handcuffs on. Possible, but hard. "Also, What're you doing here Lex? There's been nothing cataclysmic to summon you, I don't think." She could be wrong. She had been stuck with cadets all day after all.
