Alexander was present for yet another annoying round of political banter and posturing that was a council meeting. Todays topic of discussion; what to do about the Dallas office. "I have a novel idea, how about instead of playing political posturing and games of chance with the lives of our agents, how about we just give them an actual working budget, so they can have proper equipment?" His tone was dry, there was no particular expression of emotion in his tone. He hadn't been the same since Sir William had died and claimed him as his heir to council responsibilities The battle with the Titan Volcanus had taken a lot out of him.

"Why are you even here Summers? You are here as a courtesy to a fallen member. What you have to say is of little merit or concern. Less so given you were placed on the council to a traitor to the Sealie Fae court. Sir William McBride murdered Lord Oberon in unjustified cold blood." Alexander would normally have just responded with a snarky comment or shrugged it off. But today was not a day to piss him off by speaking poorly of a friend who passed beyond the veil. With alarming speed the Fae who spoke against Sir William found him self up suspended by the neck and the tip of Alexander's gladiolus pressed against his throat.

"I will say this one time and one time only you pointy eared peon. Say what you want about me, my mother, even my favorite dog. But if you ever speak poorly of Sir William McBride, out of Victoria by Callenth of Arganon again... I may not be allowed to kill you, but the council rules are some what fuzzy about the removing of your tongue and then making you eat it."

An uneasy silence swept over the council chambers, as no one moved. Alexander let the taller man slump back to the floor and he turned walking out of the council chambers. He wouldn't do any good here and he needed to stretch his legs any ways.

June sat there cringing as she watched the spectacle Alexander had just made of himself. Clearing her throat she looked around at the various other stunned members of the Council. "Well, next time... perhaps you shouldn't goad him so badly, Tarrenfall." She remarked dryly. What else did the poor man think he was going to get? One of Alexander's trademark rude responses?

So many of them were still having trouble processing the demise of Councilor McBride, and the events that had surrounded it; some of them more than others. "But, lets finish things up." She continued looking around at the faces of the others. "He's right, we need to pass a motion to fund Dallas more. If we can't agree, we're going to be here awhile."

"Agreed. And as a reminder Tarrenfall, Summers was fond of McBride. Try to keep your mouth shut about the former Councilor, regardless of feelings." Klein drawled, clearly unimpressed with the scene. Really, insulting someone who was deceased, regardless of what they had done, was a sign that Tarrenfall should, perhaps, not be on the council.

"I have read the reports coming out of Dallas. More funding is certainly necessary, under the circumstances." Despite his distaste for Dumitrescu, and that Dallas was viewed as a punishment office, of sorts, he could see the need for funding. "I believe Summers has made his vote clear on the issue. We've already had to send more personnel to contain a coven of necromancers. Given the history of the Unseen in the area, it is astonishing that funding hasn't been approved before this."

An uncomfortable smile forced it's way across Alexander's face. He was at Athena's library to seek her guidance in regards to the murder case. What he was getting instead was measured in some very awkward ways. At one point he let out a surprised squeak in protest followed by a startled, "Hands!" The scholarly mother figure glanced up at him with a perched eye brow. Granted Athena didn't look a day over 23 but she had an eternally motherly aura to her. "Alexander do try to calm down I am a chaste Goddess after all. This is strictly professional I assure you."

His eye brow raised a bit at this response. Come to think of it what exactly was so crucial about her taking his measurements. "Far be it from me to impertinently question a Goddess, one I respect for that matter. But what in the blue blazes of the underworld are you up to Athena?" He asked. Athena instead took one last very thorough measurement before glancing up at him with a grin that instantly made him wish he hadn't been stupid enough to ask the question. The answer made him grimace all the more so, "Alexander Summers, I am going to make an honest man out of you." His face reddened; it was hard for Athena to make out if it was irritation causing his blood pressure to sky rocket, or if he was blushing, or maybe a little bit of both. "And just who do you propose to have domesticate me, who won't grow old and die in what for me has become the blink of an eye." He questioned. Again with the grin that instantly made him wish he hadn't asked in the first place.

Athena first snapped her fingers causing Alexander's militaristic no frills field garb to disappear. It was instantly replaced with a blue pin striped fitted suit with a baby blue tie to offset but compliment the suit. Then she added with a sadistic grin, "I'm not sure domesticating you is what she'll have in mind." And with a second snap of her fingers Athena made Alexander disappear from her library and reappear in Junes office. He sighed softly and cleared his throat a little bit. Lex had known since just before the battle with Valcanus that June was Artemis. He kept this a closely guarded secret. But when they were alone he'd taken to once again using his old pet name of 'Arty' for her. "Arty you seriously have to have to have a conversation with your Owl loving sister about boundaries."

June hadn't expected any visitors today, much less Alexander. Raising a slender eyebrow at his current choice of get up, she wondered what exactly was going on. "Sometimes boundaries need to be crossed Alexander." She said calmly enough. To be honest, she had no idea what exactly Athena had thought she was doing by putting the poor man in a suit and then sending him on his way to her office of all places.

"I think this is probably one time when it's a good thing my sister did it, owl loving or not. But it is nice to see you." June continued offering Alexander a sympathetic smile. "You realize that you haven't had a single day off since WWI or maybe WWII? With the exception of when Dawson was born of course." She added putting aside the book she'd been reading. "Have a seat Alexander, I think we need to talk about you taking a potential sabbatical for awhile."

June truly cared about Alexander, but not in the way her sister wanted her to it seemed. That part of the relationship was over, never to be resurrected or spoken about again.

"Do I have to?" Alexander whined in protest. He didn't take days off because there were things to be done, and if he wasn't doing them then that was a form of uselessness and he couldn't stand being useless. Knowing that the answer was going to be a firm yes, he had to take a little time for him self Alexander sat down and took a deep cleansing breath. "I mean sending me to you because she knows that I will listen when you tell me to do pretty much anything is one thing, but did she have to make with the Monkey suit?" He motioned emphatically to the setup.

"Yes, you have to." June said firmly, nodding. "As for my sister, I can't answer for her. Though maybe what she's trying to say is you might want to take some time, get your head screwed on straight and maybe make a decision or two about someone."

She just wished that Athena wouldn't try to make the decision for him. "My sister who while she means well... I think believes that we should still be a pair, however both you and I know that will never happen again." She continued leaning across the desk to offer Alexander a reassuring squeeze on the hand. Artemis was going to have words with her meddling sister one way or another, this was going to have to stop.

"I think she's lettin the fact that she thought us a cute couple clense her memory of the fact that it was not a healthy relationship for me. I mean you were wonderful but between your hounds, your brother, and your girls all try to kill me with varying degrees of conviction, needless to say unable to die or not that sort of thing starts to wear on a guys psychological health." Her hand came across the desk top and a reassuring squeeze was afforded him. For the briefest of moments nearly seven thousand years of soldiering melted off of the lines of his now not quite so tired of face. His hand came up to meet her own and he gave a soft squeeze of his own. "Alright but I'm not suffering a day off alone. Let's go take in a movie or something."

Offering the man a sweet and sympathetic smile June just shook her head, "You're going to have to find someone else this time Alexander. Unfortunately I have plans this afternoon." She said as she withdrew her hand. He was going to have to learn to stand on his own two feet on this one. Besides which, she suspected that her nosy sister needed a visit from her favorite little sister.

"This isn't forever Alexander, it's only temporary; and besides I'm sure someone as creative as you can find something to do and someone to do it with."

He chuckled a little bit and shifted his weight. "I'm thinking you're forgetting what sort of nonsense goes about when I'm left to my own creativity. Things have a nasty habit of exploding... really there aught be a law." In truth there were laws against his shenanigans... too numerous to count in fact. "Fine I'll go kid nap Catherine.... she's been cooped up on the job almost as long as I have... if I need a break... so does she... granted I'm about 80 percent of the reason she needs said break... but still." Only eighty percent... some one was being generous in his own favor. He had to be at least ninety percent responsible for any grey that may exist in Catherine's hair.

With out further hesitation, or at the very most only a little he made his way to Catherine's office. Upon his arrival he swung open the door in grandiose fashion, befitting a man of Lex's long and checkered history. "Catherine grab your coat we're going adventuing!" He had that annoying gleam in his eye that he normally got when he was probably going to need supervision

Brandon nodded and followed her, running a hand through his hair as he tried to think of how to best put this to June. She was in the know, so would likely connect plenty of dots herself, but he hoped that the other would be understanding. Bethy, Everchild or not, was his baby sister. He couldn't just abandon her. The necromancer frowned and followed a little closer. June had always been kind and understanding. It would be okay.

He swallowed, nerves getting to him. It was too late now. He had panicked. Aunt Catherine was going to be pissed as hell with him, for multiple reasons. Still, he followed Xiaolin to June's office door and then narrowed his eyes on her. It was an easy bet that she assumed she'd be babysitting them in the field. Whatever. Brandon was certified as a contractor, technically. He didn't need a baby sitter. Normally. With Bethy missing, he might, maybe, over react a little, but he didn't need a babysitter.

"Oh just calm down already." Xiaolian huffed in annoyance, looking over at Brandon as she knocked and opened the door to June's office. "Councilor? Do you have a minute? We've got a bit of an issue here." She said looking over her shoulder at Brandon and Faust. It was a good thing she had over heard them, and decided to make their business, her business; it did technically lessen the problems later.

"Yes, of course, please come in!" June answered cheerfully. It was a drastic contrast for most between the Councilor and the over worked Warden. "What can I do for you?" She asked looking at the trio.

"Bethany Lessard is missing." He said, worrying in every line of his body. "She's not in the Lessard Family home. Alice and Sarah, her caretakers were deceased. No bite marks." He said quickly. It was going to be okay, it absolutely had to be. The man ran a hand through his hair. "Please Councilor. She's my baby sister." The other knew that and he ran a hand through his hair again, desperate for some kind of relief from the worry.

Beth had no concept of time or anythign else. "...She remains unaware she's a vampire, June. She has no clue the Lessard family is largely dead." For reasons he would not go into. "She has no concept of death, and no clue that she drinks blood." He kept his voice even as he could, though it was clearly still very worried. The man bit his bottom lip and swallowed, fear clear on his face. "I...I know she's not supposed to...I know she's an Everchild, but please. She's never done anything illegal. She doesn't even hunt for her own blood, she gets it through a special service." Please, please don't kill his baby sister. The panic was clear in his eyes. Please, don't let his baby sister die because of whatever happened.

The man has spoken quickly the entire time, and he stepped forward, fear very clear in his eyes. Bethy was on of the reasons he hadn't settled down. How did you explain to someone that you supported a small child, who would, in fact, always be a child.

June frowned and looked from Xiaolian to Brandon. "Did you know about this Xiaolian?" June asked the officer who had escorted Brandon and Faust into her office. "Honestly Councilor? Today is really the first I've heard of it." She said with a shrug. Leave it up to the Warden's nephew to fuck things up again, as if she didn't have enough to do already, he decided to add more on top of it all. "He doesn't want to talk to Dumitrescu or Bennet." She added shooting Brandon a glare.

Crossing her arms, June looked from Xiaolian to Brandon trying to sort out what exactly was going on. "So your 'sister' is missing Mr. Hammerstein and you don't even have the faintest idea of where she's gone?" She asked her tone now quite serious. Everchildren were the one issue that the vampire community and courts at large always wanted to sweep under the rug, never owning up to their own indiscriminate habits. "He wanted to drag Mr. Nequam here out into the field with him, but he's not certified." Xiolian said jerking a thumb towards the psychologist. "I said it was a bad idea, it's only going to add fuel to the fire he's starting." She added bluntly.

"You're right. This does bear investigation, however I don't feel comfortable with what we have to work with at the moment. Though... I suppose I can't exactly be picky, now can I?" June said mulling over the fact that Brandon was a contractor who was normally on thin ice with the Council, Nequam was new and completely uncertified, then there was Xiaolian who usually wanted to work on her own. Sighing in frustration, she considered her options; they were few. "I'll help, but the field work must be done by you, Brandon, and Xiaolian. Nequam, you'll analyze anything that comes in and I'll try to get you resources to do so."

"I don't. At sunset, the best I can do is try and ask the vampire who delivers her blood." He admitted, voice very quiet. It was the best he could do. "She doesn't know that many places." He admitted quietly. The he swallowed and shook his head. This would be very bad. The man closed his eyes.

"I just want to look for her for now. If we don't find her by sunset, I'll own up to the wardens." He said very quietly. The man swallowed, looking rather nervous at the idea. Aunt Catherine was going to kill him. "I know you can't exactly cover for us like this, not for long." If at all. The man swallowed again and closed his eyes. Please, please let his little sister be found very soon. Despite his dearest desires, he knew very well that the truth of the matter was Beth was dangerous, incredibly so. "Please. Just until sunset."

She would be awake if lethargic.

"Do you think he'll even know anything?" Xiaolian asked, her tone accusatory. This necromancer nephew of Dumitrescu's seemed to ber to be naive and inexperienced, who else would pull an officer that he knew was new to go out into the field with. It made no sense to her, especially since he claimed there were still Lessard everchildren left.

"Hush Xiaolian." June said as she saw the other begin to lay into Brandon. Turning to Brandon, she offered him a gentle, reassuring smile. "I know you're worried, and I know that your sister is important to you. However," She said, putting emphasis on the last word. "I can only give you one, maybe two days. Depending on how long Alexander's sabbatical is, because to my knowledge he's dragged your Aunt with."

"New guy invited myself, Xiaolian." He snarled at her. "I just asked if he had seen her, in case she came here." The new guy had invited himself into the field. Still, the remaining Lessard Everchildren weren't dangerous, at least in his eyes. But there were times he forgot that others didn't have his powers of abilities. After all, despite the family trait of necromancy, it was also their weakness. It came from being undead.

The man nodded. "Thank you June. That has to be enough to find her." He'd check all his old haunts, even his old workshop, if he had to. She had to be somewhere she had already been right? There were only so many places the girl was familiar with. The little girl was heavily sheltered after all. Even Alice and Sarah knew better than to let her out in public, where others might figure out the family secret.

And then the second part of that sentence registered, and he stared at June in horror. "You guys let him out on sabbatical? With my aunt?" He had heard stories, and was a little shocked that this had been allowed at all. "Okay. That's all kinds of beyond another one of their Not-Dates." This was going to be very interesting. At least they had a warden to cover for Catherine, given that bombshell. There would be paperwork.

June just gave Brandon a shrug, "It was either that or continue to let him come up with new and... interesting ways to torture your co-workers." She said nonchalantly. Though to be honest, R and D did tend to keep him busy enough, but the last experiment with the explosives had gone a little too far. "Though in all seriousness, they probably both need it. The fact that they both went together? Well they're adults and both quite capable." June explained slowly. To be honest, she really would rather see two people happy than one miserable.

"At least I don't get myself deliberately kidnapped and used as some sicko's wood carving project." Xiaolian growled in return. The whole office had had a field day with that one, especially since Brandon was one of the few contractors who had been offered a permanent position within MCU. "Who hell does that shit?" She asked no one in particular.

The was true enough. They did probably both need it. Besides, the two did so much together, it really wasn't surprising that they did this too. The office would be fine with only Ezra. He was new, but capable, right? You didn't make Warden without being very capable. Brandon nodded. "Aunt Catherine has been pretty stressed lately. Between work and taking in a teen..." He tried to take Laura off his Aunt's hands whenever possible, but it wasn't always possible at all.

"And it wasn't deliberate. I had gone to get some information. I discovered Laura there. My skills aren't exactly conducive to use around civilians." At all, even those in the know. His magic tended to make people ill. Still, he turned to June, determined to stay on target. "Thank you Councilor. I'll find her in time." He assured her and then swallowed, rather nervously. He would have to find her in time, wouldn't he? There wasn't much of a choice.

He either found Beth, or someone else did and Beth would be killed.

Xiaolian just rolled her eyes at Brandon. "Yeah sure, and then sicko had his way with you, which included carving pretty pictures into your neck." She said sarcastically. How could a Warden's nephew be so stupid? He hadn't even communicated his intent to act as bait, if that's what he had intended to do. Xiaolian suspected that there was another motive in his getting captured, and she didn't know what to think about it. Everything these days was entirely too complicated for her liking, and nothing was as cut and dry as it used to be.

June just gave Brandon a sympathetic smile. "I hope you do, because the consequences will not be fun for any of us if you don't."

Brandon's eyes narrowed on Xiaolin. "It's not like I didn't communicate I was going there." He snarled and then forced himself to calm down and pay attention to June again. "Thank you Councilor. We better get going." They had quite the list to get through. The old Lessard Mansion. Two old lab locations from when he was making money rather illegally. The gardens would be a good choice to check out as well, he supposed.

And finally, the bar/hotel combo where he and Bethany had stayed while waiting for their rooms to be made ready at the old Lessard Mansion. It was possible, though unlikely, that the little girl had gone there. He ran a hand over his face as he tried to think of anywhere else Bethany may have gotten too. She didn't exactly have a big world. Still, it was possible that the little girl's world had been rather suddenly and unexpectedly enlarged. If they didn't find her at any of those locations, he'd return to her home alone and began to search the nearby area. If he used his magic, he could detect any vampires nearby, and maybe she'd show up that way.

The man ignored the fact that he had searched the immediate area this way already. He must have missed something. He must have.

"Yeah, sure." Xiaolian muttered under her breath. She suspected that half of what had gotten him in trouble was his constant desire to play hero. What did he have to prove anyway? Either way, Xiaolian just hoped that this little trip would prove successful, because she really didn't want to catch hell from the Director plus either one of the Wardens for volunteering for all of this.

"Yes you should, daylight is fading and soon you may have more than an everchild to deal with." June remarked plainly. This close to the solstice, there would be all sorts of night dwelling denizens of the unseen out; some more dangerous than others.

Ushering the trio out of her office, she just hoped she was able to buy them enough time without meddling too much. "Keep your wits about you, and try not to fight so much. It's a problem."

June was just getting in for the day when she spotted Brandon approaching her office from the direction of the break room. "Good morning Brandon, how was your evening?" She asked cheerfully. Of course she suspected that it had been absolutely horrible, or else he wouldn't have been looking for her before he went looking for his aunt. "I trust it was at least somewhat peaceful?" She asked again looking him up and down.

Clothing from the previous day, and a mug full of the black station coffee, she guessed that his night hadn't exactly gone according to plan.

There she was. He downed a bit more of his coffee and shook his head. "Not the best." He admitted quietly. "I'm working on about four hours of sleep. The search wasn't successful." How was this woman so cheerfully. He glared at his coffee in suspicion. If he started sounded remotely that perky, then someone had clearly drugged the sludge that the station coffee was made out of. He yawned and frowned darkly.

"I figured I'd update you on the search and find out if it's time to confess to my aunt yet, or not." Please let it not be. He still had time, didn't he? Maybe. If he was lucky. Damn, this was a horrible situation all around. If Bethy remained missing, he'd have to let the vampire courts know and that would be a political nightmare for all involved.
