Lady Chrysanthemum

"Wanna come back to my place? You don't have to stay if you don't want, but at least play one game with me. I'm terribly bored. Lots of time on my hands and they aren't inventing enough things to keep me occupied."

Officer: Hello... (papers being shuffled) Lady Chrysanthemum.
Lady Chrysanthemum: Please, call me Chrys.
O: Alright Chrys. Do you know why you're here?
C: Well, because you're cute. You have that going for you. Kinda geekish, but you still work out. Brains and brawn are a nice combination. Though it didn't work out for Gideon, the man was picked on since he was-

O: Ma'am, I am interrogating you.
C: Well you aren't doing a very good job of it. What are you interrogating me about?
O: You were found passed out and on fire in an alley. You're lucky it was a mage that saw you and called us directly. When we arrived you were standing up, completely fine, and started flirting with one of the officers.
C: Lucky? Lucky has nothing to do with it. He was drunk and bragging in the bar to me how he could do magic. Thought I'd give him a heart attack. He wasn't as cute as you.
O: So you can do illusion magic ma'am?
C: Why make an illusion when you can do the real thing? (A finger snap is heard and a chair falls over)
O: Ma'am! Your hand is on fire!
C: Well yeah, duh.
O: Could you...please put it out?
C: Fine, though you just lost points for being boring.
O: (Sounds of chair being righted.) So, Miss. Who and what are you?
C: I am Lady Chrysanthemum, 10th Demon Lord of Hell.
O: The....tenth?
C: Yeah, I rule layer 10. All those other plebs only get one layer. Haven't they updated the bible yet?
O: Uhh, last I checked there were only nine layers of hell...
C: (yells) You see Astrial? This is why we do our paperwork properly and thoroughly!
O: M-Ma'am?
C: (sounds irritated) I wasn't talking to you.
O: Uh. Sorry...Ma'am?
C: I'm getting bored. Did you want to know anything else?

O: What the hell? Where'd she go?

Being a Vampire Prince was absolutely, terrifically boring. Chrys leaned against a lamppost watching as humans went by with their daily lives. The last three months had enveloped her in politics and espionage as council members tried to coerce, seduce, threaten, and blackmail her into their power. It really was quite irritating, but she knew what would happen as soon as she rose to this position. One person had actually attempted to assassinate her. The body had been returned to sender with a sweet note telling them to hire someone better next time. Politics, it was easy when you had been doing it for long enough. What she needed was something clever to do. A good prank on MCU perhaps? There was a local branch here in Dallas. Good for spur of the moment pranks, but what to do? 5 minutes later she was in her car, racing to get to the local store before they closed at 10.

She parked around the corner in view of the office and waited for the lights inside the office to all go out. They finally did, the late nighters and janitors leaving the building at 1 in the morning. That was her cue. She made a call and a truck full of men in dark clothes came around the corner. They started unloading boxes and got to work.

Officers arriving to work the next morning would see that the trees out front had grown new fruit. Every tree and bush had at least 30 donuts looped onto the tips of branches or placed among the leaves. One tree had chocolate, another bush had powdered sugar and so on, covering almost every common flavor imaginable. The door had a note taped on it containing the image of a Black Rose.

The only shame, Chrys mused as she tossed her gloves in a trash bin a mile away, was that she wouldn't be able to watch the reactions of the officers when they arrived in the morning.

"What the ever living..." Xiaolian said as she saw the entire front law covered with donuts and various pastries when she arrived that morning. So far all she could tell was that they seemed popular with the insects, birds, and other animals in the neighborhood. It was still early, but the nightshift was just now leaving and they hadn't said anything yet so far. Most of them probably thought that it was a product of being over worked, long hours, and little sleep.

"Ugh, who does this?!" She muttered as she stepped on a donut that had fallen from it's branch. With frosting and donut crumbs now covering her boot, Xiaolian had gone from confused to annoyed. It was going to take the better part of the day to get the mess cleaned up. "Did you tell the Warden and Directors about this?" She asked as she grabbed a younger officer and pointed at the pastry covered trees. "No... should I?" They asked hoping that this was either a bad dream that was a product of last night's Thai food or they were hallucinating from lack of sleep. "Yes!!" Xiaolian nearly shouted at the poor man loosing what little patience she had that day. Traffic had been horrible, her order at the local coffee shop wrong, and she'd been running late enough to not get breakfast. "But.. my shift is over and.. I've already.." He mumbled looking desperately around for an excuse to go home and sleep.

"Oh go home already." She muttered as she walked towards the front doors. Spying the note, she snatched it and held onto it for later, after she'd had more coffee and something to eat that wasn't a donut.

"...Why are there donuts everywhere?" Laura murmured, and yawned. She rubbed at her eyes and sighed. It was a teacher workday, and Brandon was going to be at the hospital for treatment and tests all day today. The teen had volunteered to go there, or to work the shop, but had been given a firm now, and directions to come in to MCU and listen to Ishae, or Catherine, or do her homework, somewhere supervised.

As if she got into trouble. She wasn't a little kid anymore, but she kind of, almost, understood their worry. Not enough to not grumble at it though. Still, she had caught the bus and shown up here only to discover donuts. Everywhere. "I thought people didn't even know the cops worked here." Something in her unseen education must be wrong and she looked to Xiaolian. "Um, officer? Why are there do many donuts? Isn't this place undercover or something like that?"

The is what Brandon had said, wasn't it? She was pretty sure it was, at least.

Xiaolian eyed Laura with mild apprehension, unsure of how exactly to answer the girl's three questions. "Officer? I think you're a little confused sweetie." Xiaolian said after a moment. Most of the officers went to great pains to not look like cops, even though they were a police agency of sorts. So most days many of them showed up to work looking like most Dallas area residents did for their workday, business casual or suits if something really important was going on.

"Are you looking for someone?" She asked having no idea who Laura happened to be. Sure she'd heard the name in passing but never really had a face to put to the name.

Laura blinked, then laughed. "Oh! Oh, I'm sorry. I know this is MCU." Sh explained cheerfully. "I'm Laura, I'm Brandon and Catherine's ward." She explained easily. "Brandon is in the hospital all day today, and there's no school because of a teacher work day, so I'm supposed to go sit with Ishae and do homework and hang out here. I think Brandon thinks I might get in trouble, if I was in the shop on my own." She said, grinning.

It was weird being mistaken for a mundane. "Besides, I can practice some here, if I can talk someone into watching me at the range." Assuming, of course, she could do so. "But that means I have to find someone who wants to go there. so that might not happen." Practicing her magic and stuff outside of official lessons was the best, but didn't happen nearly often enough for her tastes.

Xiaolian looked at Laura skeptically before replying, "I could have sworn you were younger the way those two talk." She said with just as much confusion, and how much trouble did they think a teen could get in? Looking back at the sugary mess covering the front lawn, she just shook her head in disgust. They were likely going to end up with all manner of creepy crawly critters and other things after this. Half listening to Laura and half lost in her thoughts about cleaning up the mess out front, she frowned.

"Okay Laura, where are you supposed to be this morning?" She finally asked, taking a guess that the teen was either grounded or dumb enough to volunteer with something.

"With Ishae." She answered promptly. "And I know. They treat me like I'm ten or something. I'm 17!" It was annoying as hell, but seriously, they wouldn't stop. "I know the way." She assured the other and wrinkled her now. She had no doubt that Catherine's definition of keep her busy today would include cleaning up the mess out front.

Maybe she could pretend to have homework?

No Catherine would know. She always knew if Laura lied about anything at all. it was so annoying.

Xiaolian sighed and motioned for Laura to go on in, "Oh wait, take this up with you to the Warden would you? Saves me a few steps and a minor headache." She said handing the note she'd found to Laura. There was no way she was getting stuck on baby sitter duty, it wasn't happening this time.

Laura took the note and nodded. "Not a problem. I'll tell Catherine about the lawn too." She said cheerfully, and headed inside. She glanced back and then shrugged and grinned. That officer was nice enough, she supposed, and actually treated her like an adult. It was a nice change.

Of course, now she had to tell Catherine bad news. That was... not fun. Oh well, she did sign up for it. The teen wasn't about to back out of something now that she'd said she would. That would be a bit rude, and she tried not to be rude.

"If you want to watch the Warden explode, be my guest." Xiaolian shrugged. She suspected that the girl would be right back out there helping with the clean up effort sooner or later; if only so the other didn't have to babysit the teen. "Just be sure to give the rest of us advance warning before world war 3 commences." She added with a grin.

Chrys observed from a bench outside, fairly inconspicuous unless you knew who she was. She wasn't particularly interested in the guy who was captured, but she was interested in Rahal and whoever that guy had been working for. Higher powers were a special interest of hers. The more allies she gathered, the more favors she could incur and call in. Not to mention it was nice to have a new player at the card table once in a while.

This guy they had caught clearly had done something to piss off MCU seeing as a couple of the big wigs has been called in. Rahal wouldn't be here for just any reason, the son of two prevalent vampires generally felt he had better things to do. As for what June was doing there, that was anyone's guess. June served her own interests. Chrys felt a kinship with her for that.

At any rate, the party seemed to have drawn to a close. Chrys stretched and stood up in preparation to leave.

"Go ahead, tell him. I'm sure you'll at least get some enjoyment out of the poor guy choking on his drink." June said with a bored shrug. Things had gone smoothly, and she hadn't had to turn anyone into a pig.. yet. All in all it had been a good day; and no doubt certain individuals would be more than overjoyed to be rid of Malik for as long as possible.

Chrys grinned when her agent reported to her. Ra? Visiting MCU? now that's a meeting in which she'd like to be a fly on the wall. Shame she had yet to find any shapeshifters willing to take her employ... No matter. Actions had a tendency to shout even when words were whispered. She put two extra agents around the area, making it a total of four. Just enough to canvas the area and see what was going on. She herself made haste to her usual cafe, down the street from the building. If something happened, she wanted to be the first to know. Her agents would inform her if someone left by another way.

Chrys sat back in her chair sipping a mocha triple soy 2 sugar 5 cream super-shot expresso. Sometimes life called for fancy drinks, but as there was no wine bar nearby, this would have to do. No word had yet come from her agents. The silence bode ill. She had run a brainstorm of everything that may be happening, and had come up empty. She hated working with this little information. Surely something else had had come in by now....

The door chime to the cafe rang and a man dressed in a dark hoodie despite the temperature came in. He gave a quick glance and came and sat across from Chrys in her window seat, never taking his hoodie off. He handed two files across the table, his hoodie bent all the while in deference. "Mi'lady, the White Council bid me send this to you with all due haste." She flipped through the files briefly, trying to get a summary of the information she needed. A few lines had been highlighted for her. Upon reading them her eyes narrowed. "The White Council was it?" She said quietly, "And pray tell, who else did the White Council send this file to?" The messenger gulped, "I don't know mi'lady." Lady Chrys nodded, "I see. You're just the messenger. I shouldn't expect you to know anything should I?" The man nodded slowly. Chrys smiled. "Alright then. You may go. But first a brief question. What is your name?"

"erm, Jethro, mi'lady."

"Alright Jethro, thank you for the message."

Chrys left the cafe and tucked the files safe under the passenger seat of her car. After a brief moment of thought, she shrugged, walked straight to the MCU office and let herself in. Two young officers with desks near the door looked over, looking confused. She waved to them. "Hi there! I'm here to see your Warden. I understand she's in a conference right now. Is there somewhere I can wait?"

______________________________________________________________________________________________________

The twins had been going about their day, doing routine work. Earlier, Ra had entered and haughtily ignored them, making his way to the conference room. Not having a damn clue what was going on, they were equally confounded when a women they had never seen or heard of let herself into the office and requested to see the Warden, Not only that but she already knew the warden was in a meeting with someone. The two glanced at each other and shrugged slightly. "You can feel free to wait outside the warden's office ma'am" offered Gaudia, "I'm sure she'll see you after she's done." The lady smiled, "Thanks for your help!" she said before she was gone.

Tristia called in to Ishae, "Just letting you know, you've a woman on her way up. Not a damned clue who she is, but she wants a meeting with the Warden. She claims she'll wait till after the current meeting." After she received confirmation she put the phone down and looked to her sister. "Guesses?"

"Not a clue. You good for a description?"

"Yeah. I can identify her if need be."

"Cool." And it was back to the grind, though maybe a bit more curious than before.

"I bet not." Catherine said with a frown as she headed back to her office. From there she could at least get a phone call done without being side tracked or pulled off on some task or another that the Directors had yet to clarify proper use of equipment on. She really didn't want to have to go down to R&D yet again and explain that colored smoke ideally wasn't supposed to be venting out of their building like some strange halloween prank.

On her way back, she found it promising that Brandon's chances improved with each visit to his physician, but also knew that as they did so did his choice of death at the hands of Ra or their forced turning of him. It seemed that the vampires were even worse than the Council when it came to giving an ultimatum, and frankly Catherine didn't understand why she had to choose a single side now.

Chrys stood from where she sat waiting in the room just outside the warden's office. "Catherine! Glad to see you made it out of that room alive! And with everything still attached! She opened her arms as if the warden and she were old friends, which they were not. They had met. Once. Chrys was bought into MCU once due to having been drop-dead drunk and on fire. She had appeared human at the time though any notion of her being normal flew out the window when she had straight up vanished from the interrogation room. Now, while she looked similar, she was very much a vampire.

Not caring if the warden reciprocated her gesture of fondness, she carried on. "So what did the bastard want? I can guess, but I want to hear you say it. I doubt that whatever it was could be remotely pleasant. He doesn't really have a way with words. Or politics. Then again, he doesn't nearly have as much practice as I do..."

Catherine just stared at the strange woman who had been sitting in front of her office, obviously waiting while she'd been in conference with the head of the Court of the Dragon. "I'm sorry who are you?" She asked really having no memory of having met the woman, but then again it seemed lately she didn't have memory of much if anything. Time spent in an institution like Broadmoore tended to fracture the mind, weakening it over time. "And do I know you?" Catherine asked again thinking that she should have asked if she should know the tiny woman standing in front of her.

However, she quickly caught on as Chrys referred to the Ra, the vampire she'd just met with as a bastard. Groaning inwardly, she knew that the call to Alexander would be even more interesting now that this next vampire wishing to talk to her had popped up. "Oh god, which court are you from?" She muttered in exasperation. This was getting out of hand, and fast. "Probably wants the same thing you do, myself and nephew to join whatever court your from.. or else someone dies.. preferably the nephew for his 'crimes'." Catherine added feeling that today was far from over.

More than likely there would be no privacy within the vampire world which she had previously enjoyed, after her entire personnel file had been somehow leaked. What had been easy in the past would now be difficult, and there was no passing herself off as possibly fae; especially with the way information traveled in the Unseen world. Undoubtedly there would also be blowback from the Council, and their decision to make yet another political statement about how they intended to prove she wasn't a danger.

Chrys dropped her arms. "I suppose it has been a while, and we were never formally introduced. I am Chrysanthemum, Prince of the Court of the White Rose. And despite what you may think, I am not here to coerce you into joining my court. But shall we take this somewhere more private?" She opened the door to the office and bowed to allow Catherine to go first.

Once inside she sat herself down on the desk, moving aside a few papers that were in the way. "We are similar, you and I, Catherine. Both of us are leaders, we know when things need to be done, and we aren't afraid of red tape getting in the way." She looked the warden in the eyes. "I've watched you for a while warden, and I wouldn't see you or Brandon caught in this trap. Officially, the Court of the White Rose and the Court of the Dragon are allied. Unofficially, I don't give a damn. Alliances between parties are temporary, but friendships last much longer."

She continued, "I won't tell you what to do, I'd like to see how you would solve the problem yourself, but I came to offer you full access to the resources at my disposal."

"Please get off my desk and replace those papers where you found them." She said with mild irritation, that was growing by the minute. "I'm afraid we aren't similar at all.. Chrysanthemum." Catherine continued shaking her head. This was similar to the speech Ra had given, leaning hard on what few similarities there might be between the two. "Because unlike you, I don't serve my own interests." She added testily.

It was obvious that Catherine wasn't afraid to go toe to toe with many of the vampire princes in the area. Maybe it was a combination of foolishness or lack of fear that allowed her to do it, either way she was loosing what little patience she had left with the creatures. If she had her way, she was going to personally strangle whoever leaked those files; life hadn't been wonderful before hand, but now things had grown increasing complicated all in the span of 24 hours.

"Brandon's choice is his own. If he wishes to be turned, he's allowed that choice, if he wishes to pass from sickness that's his choice also. As for your alliship, I am only the Queen's Knight Commander; these decisions are best left to her. Friendship, one must devote care and time towards; and while your offer... is appreciated I will say that... I cannot say what anyone's final decision will be." Catherine remarked carefully.

She knew that Chrys could potentially be a useful ally, but at the same time dangerous. There was too much to talk to too many about, and Catherine knew in the end her decision had to be carefully made.

While she knew that within MCU and Council she had allies within the Dragon Court, the White Rose wasn't yet understood well. She felt like she was playing with fire and another's life that wasn't her's to give.

Chrys didn't get off the desk. "My own interests? I suppose you could say that. But then again, aren't we all ultimately looking out for ourselves? That's what you're doing right now isn't it? Looking out for yourself? And all this trying to protect your nephew, isn't it just trying to spare yourself from heartbreak when he is killed or turned?" she shrugged, "I simply play devil's advocate. Surely when Red Rose comes to your door with an offer that is similar to what they will say. Though I'm sure they will say it much more eloquently."

"I recognize that Brandon is his own person. He too has intrigued me, and I will be approaching him with a similar offer. But you are older and wiser that he. I thought to seek your own perception of this first." She hopped down from the desk, replaced the papers, and headed towards the door. When she reached it she turned and paused. "Know that this is not a threat. I hope I conveyed that to you. I'll leave this offer open for you. If you ever need me, you'll find me at the cafe down the road. If I'm not there, ask for me at the counter. They'll get you in contact with me."

She started out the door, but poked her head back in smiling, "Oh, and let Brandon know I'm coming would you? I wouldn't want to startle him." She closed the door without waiting for an answer.
