The gauntlets had been removed easily enough to reveal burned arms underneath. Those had been tended and bandaged easily, and a specialist had come in to heal, rune by run, the silencer on his neck so it wouldn't scar and become permanent. Everything else, what there was, had been re-bandaged and the healing process kickstarted to help fight off infection. As it was, the specialist was still healing the wounds on his neck when he was told that someone would come to speak to him shortly to debrief him and get his version of events. Luckily by this time he could talk, though his voice was rough from what had been done to him, and he was sore all over.

The infirmary had really been the only place to put Brandon for now, and Catherine had mostly stayed with him through the entire process, with the exception of calling Laura's parents to let them know they had found her. Of course they had insisted they come and pick her up right away, thankful and slightly curious about what had happened. "How are you feeling?" Catherine asked as she walked back into the room they'd placed Brandon in. It was a small facility, but could easily care for some of the more serious injuries and wounds inflicted in the line of duty; however most officers tended to not need the services very often.

Brandon gave her a rather pleased smile. "Much better Aunt Catherine." He assured her. "Sorry about all that. I had intended on getting a grimoire from Hanh to look up a scrying spell. I hadn't expected to find Laura there." Which just went to show that Brandon had horrible taste in men. Huh. Maybe he shouldn't consider asking Warden Bennet out as thanks for helping save him. It might somehow make the other into yet another nut job.

Brandon's voice was rough, but clearly pleased. "I'll look like a mummy for a couple of days, I'm told."

"Well that's what you get for vigilantism. Honestly what did you think that grimoire was going to help you with besides scrying?" She asked crossing her arms over her chest. The sling and cast had now been replaced by a very stiff brace on her broken arm, having allowed at least some help in healing the broken bones from the infirmary staff. There were days when Catherine truly wondered what went on in his head.

A few moments later, a petite woman with black hair and mischievous brown eyes came and knocked on the door to the room that was already standing open. "I didn't realize mummy bandages were the new thing." She commented looking at Brandon.

"Technically, as a contractor, I'm pretty certain it wasn't vigilantism." He maintained that stance too. "And it was going to help my scry. I wasn't exactly thinking clearly." He could easily admit that too. He blamed the stress of the situation. At the knock on the door, he faced it and smiled. "Ms. Zarok. Good to see you." He glanced down and shrugged. "Oh you know me. Always the trendsetter. You were just about to witness Aunt Catherine tearing me apart. Please, stay."

Oh he knew exactly how much trouble he was in, and grown man or not, his aunt had raised him. If anyone got away with scolding him it was her.

"Oh, I have an idea how well that's going, Brandon." Lilly replied taking a seat across from him. Catherine really did have a soft spot for her nephews, but there were times when they tried her patience. "No you weren't thinking clearly, you were just pissed about Hanh." Catherine muttered under her breath, while Lilly raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "Okay, so what am I missing here?" She asked taking a pen and notebook out.

"From what I understand you just spent several days held captive in a necromancer's dungeon. How the hell did you pull this one off Brandon? You're getting in more scrapes than your aunt here ever did."

"He stole Bitty Hammerstine!" He pointed out, then turned bright red as he realized that he had called Laura that ridiculous nickname. "I mean, Laura had just gone missing, and we didn't know who had her, only that we had all just been attacked." He closed his eyes and concentrated. "I was upset, but I knew he'd have a spell that could help. I had intended to steal his grimoire since I knew his defenses well enough to get past them, but then I say Laura and lost it." He looked more than a little embarrassed at this. "Hanh is a better fighter than I and overpowered me."

Still, he took offense to the idea that he got into more scraps than his aunt. "And I doubt that. Surely, through time alone, she's managed more than me. She's just calmed down." He hoped. Then he made a face. "I suppose though, what you're missing the most is that Hanh and I had been lovers before he was questioned by my aunt. It's a bit pivotal in why he was quite so harsh with me, I think."

Catherine looked at Brandon strangely when he used a name for Laura that she'd never heard. "Seriously?" She commented trying hard to choke back laughter at his expense.

Lilly couldn't help but snicker also, "I don't think you're gonna live that down kiddo." She said as she tried to be serious again. "Okay, so you were upset and thought that stealing Hanh Dam's grimoire would help, then you found Laura and it all went to hell in a hand basket." Lilly added before scribbling a few things down in her notebook. At least this wasn't nearly as messy as she had thought. "So Catherine here, questioned Hanh before hand and afterwards he broke things off?" Lilly questioned looking over at the other with a questioning glance.

All Catherine would do was offer a non committal shrug as an answer. She didn't exactly feel like telling either Brandon or Lilly what had happened in questioning.

"It's something the coven used to call her when we were meeting." He grumbled. "And don't you dare tell Laura I called her that. she's fifteen. She'll either through a fit about how old and mature she is or get all emotional and cry." And frankly dealing with either was a nuisance.

He cast his mind back and nodded. "Yeah. He was interviewed by Aunt Catherine. Came out looking terrified, and skirted around me the long way. Wouldn't say a damn thing to me until we were fighting either. I figured Aunt Catherine just did that glare she has that could scare the hell out of anyone." Or more, but he'd never let that be put on paper.

"Coven's are more trouble than they're worth Brandon." Catherine remarked leaning against the wall nearby. There was only one chair in the room, and she let Lilly have it as soon as she had come in. "Besides which, why would I be calling her that? Nicknames aren't always worth the attachment." Then again there was really only one person whom she'd allowed to ever give her a term of endearment, however it had been earned.

Lilly sighed and just shook her head. "I highly doubt that Brandon. But what did Hanh say when you were fighting with him? Anything specific?"

"And I've learned my lesson Aunt Catherine. No more covens." Yeah, he'd be hearing about this years from now, he could tell. the necromancer considered things and recalled the fight. "He doesn't talk a lot during fights. Mostly, it was slurs against me and my aunt." He thought back and considered things. "But later he and Loretta were talking. I think they thought I was asleep but...they had planned on making Laura a new sacrifice to keep the barriers in Dallas weak. They're stronger than they used to be, when I was younger. The general thought is because that one of the sacrifices, Parson, was gone."

He assumed they knew why the barriers between the realms were so weak here of course.

Lilly considered all of this for a moment, she would have to ask Catherine about the whole business with Parson. That seemed to be before her time with this particular branch. "Was the fight physical or another nature all together?" She asked patiently. "Do you even know why they wanted Laura in the first place?" This was where things were beginning to get confusing. "As for the barriers, they'll try again on the next auspicious date, which I think is around December 21st, which strangely enough is your Aunt's birthday." Lilly wondered if they would try for that date, with the solstice the veil was thin enough.

"Largely physical." He admitted. "Some minor spells, but nothing major, just things to tire each other out." He closed his eyes and considered things carefully. "And yes. They were hoping another sacrifice, young and virginal would be able to keep the veil weak. They chose her because of me, because they were angry and taking her would hurt me a hell of a lot more than a boy off the street. She's the wrong gender to be the missing sacrifice regardless. They'll need a pre-pubescent boy. The female role is already filled in, so their ritual wouldn't have worked, though it may still have cursed Laura into a vampire's form."

He rubbed his throat and drank some of the water he had been provided, and forced himself to concentrate on the present. "On hell of a birthday gift."

"Not much I can do about that." Catherine said plainly as she checked the time on her watch. She hated hospitals nearly as much as Brandon, and the infirmary was no different. There always seemed to be an absence of clocks, or any real way to tell what time it was. "He's right you know Lil, they'll need to find a boy who's about 10 or younger. Ideally." She wondered just where they would find a boy, but then again Brandon had managed to be found.

"Then possibly they won't succeed if they think they need to take someone Laura's age. Yes at worst I suppose she'd end up cursed with vampirism, but there are people who would help." Lilly said looking intentionally at Catherine.

Brandon shrugged. "At least she wouldn't be an everchild, even if she was cursed." He murmured and the closed his eyes. "But she won't be, and gods below help the fools who try." He fully planned and tearing Hanh apart if he got his hands on him, and Loretta, after trial, would likely have an accident as far as he was concerned. He had killed for less as a child. He considered thing.

"It's possible they didn't know. The majority of the details of the ritual were kept very closely secret. The circle could be copied, as it had been burnt into the ground, but a lot of the details were only known to the participants, and with the majority of the Lessards deceased, I doubt they'll be easy to find." He recalled quite a bit, but he sure as hell wasn't telling a damned soul and didn't intend to actively try and recall what he had forgotten of it.

Catherine simply frowned as she looked over at Brandon, suspecting that this was only the start of their problems with the resident Necromancer and his choice in romantic partners. She just hoped that Loretta made it to trial, and then they could concentrate on finding Hanh; if they ever found him.

"Alright, we're almost done here Brandon, and then I'll get out of your hair." Lilly said with a smile, trying to at least get the other to relax. "So, do you have any idea why they thought Laura was a good candidate? She seems pretty mundane to me."

Brandon thought it over, and then spoke, hesitating. "I have an idea, but I'm not sure." He murmured. "But I don't think she's mundane. If nothing else, then because the Unseen calls to the Unseen, and she gets in too much Unseen sort of trouble to be mundane." Carefully he thought it over.

"I suspect she has magic though. A very subtle magic, but magic of some sort, something much quieter than my own." He's have to run some tests, but if she had magic then she'd certainly be a better sacrifice than any mundane out there. That was always true.

"Well that explains a lot." Catherine commented, thinking back to the zombies and all the other trouble the girl had managed to get herself into over the last year. "And Your magic is about a subtle as a sledge hammer Brandon." She added. Necromancy always was what she would consider a flashy magic, and dangerous because of it's addictive nature; the idea of playing god seemed to be irresistible to humans.

"If that's what you think, then we'll have to talk to her parents. Remember she's a minor and not an emancipated one at that." Lilly pointed out stifling another snort. Catherine did have a point, Brandon's magic wasn't very subtle at all. While Lilly sometimes knew better than to say what she was thinking, that didn't always stop her and this time it seemed that it was Catherine's job to make the occasional sarcastic remark.

"I can be subtle with my magic! I just don't see the point." He protested , and managed to look offended for all of one minute before he grinned to his aunt, pleased, and absently rubbed at his head, trying to get rid of the headache. "What's the fun in magic if it's subtle anyway." He had magic, and didn't see the point in being anything but flashy with it. For more subtle things, well, that was what telekinesis was for.

Still, the note of telling her parents caused him to stop and think. "Try and find someone who can put it delicately. Her parents come from a religious background and may react poorly." He doubted that she'd be kicked out, but they may not approve, and that could cause serious trouble in the long run.

Catherine just rolled her eyes and Brandon's comment, finding it difficult to believe him. "Go ahead, look as offended as you want." She said plainly, refraining from mentioning that his face might get stuck that way if he tried hard enough. There were days when it was like dealing with a child instead of an adult. "Magic isn't meant to be fun, there are times when it's a necessary skill around here Brandon, and not all of us possess it."

"Delicately? Err.. in case you haven't noticed kiddo, that's not really many of us here. Your aunt included." Lilly told Brandon, pointing at him with the ball point pen she'd been scribbling notes.

Brandon offered her a grin. "Yes ma'am. I shall try to remember. Magic isn't meant to be fun." Unfortunately for her, Rahal had taught him the exact opposite. There were problems with finding a mentor for your ward, and differences of opinion like that were one of them. Still, Lilly had a point and he considered things carefully.

"You're right." He said, voice quiet. No one at this office was any good at being delicate. Still, he considered things carefully. "Maybe the new Warden is better at it?" His Aunt should most definitely not be the one to tell them, and he likely shouldn't tell them either. He wasn't exactly a tactful individual. "He seems a bit better at least."

"I'll talk to Warden Bennet.." Catherine said with an exasperated sigh. She really would just prefer to go back to business as usual, with the occasional minor incident. This whole thing had been disturbing to say the least, especially when it came with a disregard for human life.

"Just get some rest, I'll be in touch if I need to ask you anything else." Lilly said as she stood to leave the room. "Also, don't give your aunt too much grief, she's had more than enough over the years." She said with a grin and left.

Molly stopped my Lilly Zarok's door, and knocked. As Catherine had said, she would be a good choice for checking in on Brandon for a first stop, at least. If Lilly didn't know there was a distinct chance that Brandon might be at his mundane job, and hopefully well behaved there. That was the hope of course. With Brandon, there was often no telling. Catherine may have stopped the worst of his behaviors when she took him in, but by no means had all of it ceased happening. That was the sort of pipe dream that they could all only dream of.

The woman waited patiently. She didn't see Lilly too much anymore, since Molly was now an officer and not just another contractor. The other, hopefully, was doing well.

"Enter!" A voice said from behind the door. It seemed that now was a good time as any, Lilly was in her office for once and not busy. The woman was harder to pin down than either of the wardens, and that was saying a lot considering how few contractors they had at the moment. But it was more than likely that she'd been reassigned to take care of other tasks and chores that kept the place from falling down around all of them.

Molly stepped inside and offered the other woman a smile. "Hey Lilly." She greeted and glanced over her desk. Looked like a paperwork day, which explained the quick response. Everyone wanted to get away from paperwork. Molly especially hated it, and wished that she had remained a contractor at times. There was less paperwork, after all.

"I was wondering if you had seen Hammerstine lately? The Warden wants me to pass on a message to him." Which made it very clear how much trouble he was in. Molly was a go between.
