History & Background

Rahals’ birth family is twisted and cruel. By the age of five, he had killed someone in their name. It wasn’t until he was seven that he realized how evil they were. His siblings and he were named after the horsemen of the apocalypse and different sins. By 8, he had escaped them by murdering all by the youngest girl and his oldest brother, neither of whom was home then, and had been taken in by the prince of the Dragon Court.
The prince was truly sadistic, but one look had him take him in, and begin teaching him magic. Magic came easily to him, and when he passed his Masters test, the youngest master in history, with high flying colors. The mage’s council, convened only to determine who was a master of magic put sever limiter on his magic in response, binding him with a shackle on each wrist. He became bitter, and eventually, with the help of a demon, destroyed them.

After this, he largely retreated to the vampire courts, and studying magic, disregarding most other mages, and often the laws of community.

So begins...

The report was finished, and Xiaolian had been sure to include photos she had taken during her investigation of the residence. She was still put out that the contractor hadn't shown up, but thankfully the house hadn't been too dangerous. "Done... now to wait." Xiaolian muttered with a yawn. Though what she was supposed to wait on, she wasn't entirely sure; her sleep deprived brain could hardly process the thought of coffee, much less the next steps toward solving the case. The house had left her with horrible nightmares that had plagued her sleep for the last few days, and today was no exception.

She just hoped that once the Warden and others saw the report, they'd know what to do. There was so much left in that house that had to be taken care of, and she was not the officer who was going to do it. The altars, the bones just seemed to be the tip of the iceberg; Xiaolian left thinking that there was something more to what she had found. But, in the end all she could do was present the evidence at hand at the meeting; which happened to be two notebooks, a handful of photos, and a few old dusty flyers.

Molly stopped by Xiaolian's desk and grinned to her, still bruised and looking like she had been beat down from the training the other day. "Hey, Boyuan." She greeted, amused. "Ready to go for the meeting about that damned house?" She said, smiling. The contractor had been supposed to present his evidence in from of the team today, but word was he hadn't even shown. Bad luck that, but Xiaolian was talented enough to handle things on her own.

She was ready for the meeting herself. It may be good news that Bethany had been innocent, but, well, that just meant the guilty party was still out there. "I think we're going over what was found on Brandon the idiot also." And what an idiot. Who the heck went to the vampire courts willingly? That was worse than going to the Seelie courts by tons, as far as Molly was concerned. Well, he was in the hospital over the whole thing, so at least he'd have learned from this. Maybe. It was hard to tell, given how dense the boy could be.

"Bronson! Good to see you, but yeah, the sooner we get this done with that damn place the better." Xiaolian said with a nod. "But what the hell happened to you, lose a fight or something?" She asked giving Molly an appraising look. Far as she knew, the woman was pretty good at keeping herself out of trouble. But aside from that, she didn't know much else about the other officer's personal life.

"Anyway, I don't know if we will or won't. From what I heard from Zarok, the note is pretty damn personal." She had poked and prodded the other until she got some sort of answer. The Warden's didn't seem to be of the mind that they should tell the other officers about some case details as of late.

"That bad huh? Man, let's just say my trainer kicked me ass hardcore." She admitted cheerfully. "Great work out and experience of course, but man, the bruises." She shrugged, rather enjoying it, truth told. She did stay out of trouble pretty well, she thought, but there was always room for improvement. "And I can't seem to land a good hit on her. I'm going to have to work on my speed." Which was a bummer, but always doable.

"Well, even if we don't cover the note, there was a journal. From what I caught of it, it was pretty damned good informationwise." That was pretty important. Molly shrugged. "Mentioned another Everbrat." She confessed, her voice low to prevent anyone else from hearing. Some of them could be sweet, but she wasn't about to forget the trouble they caused just by existing. "Seriously, the Lessards must have had mommy issues given how bad they clearly wanted kids." The new one made three, plus creepy skeleton/zombie baby.

Xiaolian looked at Molly strangely again, half tempted to ask who she was working with, but figured if the other didn't want to share she wouldn't press the issue. "Sucks to be you then." She said off hand as she grabbed her coffee and notes for the meeting. "Yeah, I'm not surprised. That house was fucking strange, half of it enchanted in one way or another."

Xiaolian had never seen such a determination to keep people out, or maybe even keep people in; she wasn't certain. "There's more coming though besides the journal. We recovered a notebook, and some other papers out of the house." Xiaolian mentioned. Not much else had been helpful, and she hadn't even done more than a cursory inspection. "There were at least three altars in the house too, and someone's going to have to go dispell them." She added quietly. It sure as hell wasn't going to be her, she was due some vacation after this whole mess. "I'd say they had issues alright... mommy and daddy issues." Xiaolian said with a nod of agreement as she started towards the conference room. "I mean seriously, who the fuck were these people? There's no record of them around here up until twenty some odd years ago."

Molly shrugged and headed with Xiaolian to the conference room. "Hell, their files are considered need to know from hell and back." She pointed out. "As for who they were? Twenty years ago they were an up and coming vampire family, rapidly gaining ground in the courts." She admitted, keeping her voice quiet. "They were brought down by the actions of a fledgling of theirs, Parson Lessard. He was a crazy as hell child vamp with a hair trigger." She should know, she had to baby sit him once or twice.

"They were nuts." She admitted easily. "Each of them mad in their own way. But when the boy went down, the aunt was staked shortly thereafter, the mom died in some power struggle, and the grandfather and head of the family? No one knows, but one day he was just confirmed dead permanently." She shrugged, not really sure. "We're better off with them down. You went to their house? Has the grass grown back yet, because when they lived there? It was dead as was every other plant on the grounds."

Xiaolian frowned, "I'm guessing that either of the Warden's has said no to any access?" It was hard sometimes to get information, considering that when an old link came up it was more than likely classified out of reach of only a Warden; and getting one to agree to accessing the files was easier said than done. "Huh. Guess they should have thought twice before making Parson then." She commented, having really no idea previously what all the everchild had been wrapped up in. All she knew was that it was complicated beyond her imagination.

"Sounds like their particular brand of vampirism brought out the crazy in everyone, but everything outside looked normal. Inside was normal too I guess, aside from the enchantments, and bassinet with bones in it." Xiaolian answered. "They never found the head of the family? That's really strange..."

"Geez, Jezebelle? You found that creepy little bundle of....just plain creepiness. The mom used to carry the bundle of bones around, and make her kids play with and carry it too." Molly shuddered. "Or at least, that's what I was told. And yeah, no to any access at all. No one really says why either." Molly knew, but it was pretty privileged information and she wasn't sharing it. "I guess the grounds and everything must have recovered. If nothing else, that's proof that there isn't a necromancer in residence." She said thoughtfully. "Which is good to know."

It was too. It meant that if the new everchild was a practicing necromancer, he wasn't practicing it there. "Yeah. I always figured he was taken down, but no one wanted to publicly claim the kill." She admitted and shrugged. "But I don't really hang with vampire hunters, so I don't know much about them."

She entered into the conference room. They weren't the first ones here. Rahal had set himself with the corner to his back as he waited for them. Molly frowned briefly, then sighed. This was unusual. "Mr. Rahal, I wasn't aware we had been expecting you." She tried to inject a note of polite curiosity in her voice.

Rahal shrugged and looked her and Xiaolian over. "Well, it's me or father, and do you really want the King of the Dragon Court here?" Well, that was a rough point to be made, but a good one. Rahal sat back, clearly bored senseless. He had also forsaken his usual dudes in favor of an actual suit. He was here on diplomatic business after all.

Xiaolian made a face and shuddered. "I didn't know that part! It was disturbing and morbid enough to find it!" She exclaimed as she made an effort to force any further thoughts of the small bundle of rag and bones from her mind. "Gods above... I don't need to know anything else on how fucked up that family is Bronson, save it for the meeting." Xiaolian remarked as she followed Molly into the conference room.

'Great... the Dragon's ambassador.' She thought with mild irritation as she spotted Rahal before taking her seat. Xiaolian didn't say anything, and just decided it would be best to keep her mouth shut for now. Molly could be the one to annoy the mage with all her questions.

"He has a point, take a seat Molly, we'll begin shortly." Catherine said as she entered the room. She looked a little more exhausted than usual, but not nearly as bruised as Molly was. If she was however, the long sleeves of her suit jacket and grey silk blouse hid it well. "Thank you for coming on such short notice though Rahal, I thought that your father would at least like to be informed of new developments."

Molly took her seat. "It is an excellent point." She admitted cheerfully and took her seat, making certain not to rake one next to Rahal. She kept on eye on the byplay and then grinned at Xiaolian. "You should have been at MCU when they were active. I was just a contractor, but it was like kicking over an ants hill every time they made a move." She whispered to the other woman.

Rahal watched them briefly, and then turned to Catherine. "He'll be happiest to hear news if it contains the death of Bethany Lessard." He said simply. "And for my own sake, I hope it is either that, or something just as good." Certainly he wanted to bring back good news. Bad news, well. His father didn't shoot the messenger, but he might as well. Rahal despised being the bearer of bad news.

"However, I will be satisfied if there is progress in general." That was the truth. Isis would enjoy that also. The mage sighed and looked to Catherine, clearly expecting to hear some kind of news. He'd need to know to take it back after all. "Still, thank you for the invitation. The court would like to be kept in the loop given the upheaval this case has caused us already." From a man running rampant through the territories to the death of a child under their protection.

The twins hadn't had too rough of a night. Thankfully, opposite ends of the apartment weren't too far away, so they slept well still, though nightmares of the day's experiences plagued both of them. After showering and dressing, they drove to the office.

They arrived at the office and approached the doors, but stopped before they reached them. The glass doors seemed ominous, a sign of the dark world they had entered. A world where others could read their thoughts, where undead children roamed the night, where vampires nearly killed for small mistakes. This was a world that could destroy them if they were unprepared and they were unprepared as hell. Everyone who worked with them had already been able to tell them exactly how unprepared they were. Twins who needed each other to function as normal members of society who had no clue what the line between ok and not ok or right and wrong even was. There was no way in hell they were ready for this world. So they did what would define them for the rest of their lives. They gave the odds a joint middle finger and pushed open the doors. Then they looked sheepish as the doors didn't open and pulled instead.

The florescent lights struggled against the sunlight the penetrated the windows, trying to scream "I matter!" to the laws of physics, which didn't care. The twins walked through the halls, greeting coworkers confidently, walking with purpose in their stride and trying desperately not to mirror one another's movements. In an unprecedented move, they went separate ways in the office. Gaudia went to the break room, mingling and getting coffee. Tristia went to their cubical arranging the desks so they were no longer side by side but instead were on separate sides facing each other. After a half-hour or so elapsed, they both received a memo that there was a staff meeting.

They met each other at the door. Again, this door seemed imposing but it phased them less. Gaudia opened the door with a mock bow, as though she were a doorman at a hotel. Tristia strode in soon followed by her sister and they took seats at the conference table, ensuring they did not sit directly next to each other. Bring it on world. They were ready.

"Seriously?" Xiaolian whispered back. The petite woman had just settled into her seat, largely ignoring anything the Warden had to say unless the meeting started. For now, it just seemed that there were pleasantries between her and the Dragon's emissary. "From what I can glean, the Lessards were a huge thorn in our side back then. We haven't had any everchildren since the family disappeared, so why now do you think?" The woman asked conspiratorially. There had to be some reason, other than what she could only think was a distinct power vacuum.

"Of course, it's caused us plenty of upheaval here as well." Catherine spoke with a nod as she sat down towards the head of the table. She could see and hear Molly and Xiaolian whispering, but so far it wasn't anything too terribly offensive. She usually reserved that right for Alexander, who was conveniently missing as usual, and there were the L'ange sisters... late as usual.

"Seriously." Molly agreed. "And I have no clue. Maybe someone went and poked at the sleeping dragon or something." She said, uncertain. The twins stepped in and she nodded to them. Huh. Not sitting side by side. They had either had a fight or were trying hard on the independence thing. Cute. Practice did make perfect though, so it would no doubt help. She offered a smile to them, letting them, silently, know she was proud.

Rahal looked to the whispering officers, then to the new ones then to Catherine. "Ladies, if you are done gossiping? I would be very happy if we could get started with this mess, assuming everyone is here now." At this rather annoyed pronouncement Molly sat back and fell silent. She didn't really have any evidence or anything to add, really. Well, she did, but she certainly wasn't going first.

The mage turned his attention back to Catherine and crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow. The sooner he could get back to his magic the better as far as he was concerned. That meant getting the political duties, and thus this meeting, over with.

Catherine shot Rahal a glare before pulling out a thick stack of notes. It appeared that if anything, the Warden had been very busy attempting to find a solution to this whole mess. "If you're done getting your panties in a twist Rahal, then yes." She said bluntly to the mage. Everyone was there, some quieter and more so than others, but at least they could get started. "As I'm sure we're all aware earlier this month a rash of child deaths began to plague Dallas County with the most recent being earlier this week. With DPD and Dallas County Sheriff uncertain as to what to do, we were brought in on consult, and eventually took charge of the case. As it currently stands, we are down two contractors; one injured and on leave, the other a no show." Catherine began. Keeping everyone's attention this close to Christmas was going to be difficult. But, they needed to finish the case, to see it's resolution.

"But, I'm sure you will be pleased to report that Bethany Lessard has been taken care of, however we have hit a snag in our investigation." She said looking to Rahal, trying to figure out how best to explain the potential presence of another child. "In Lieutenant Boyaun's investigation of the Lessard residence, we recovered some additional documents, that in conjunction with Vincent Lessard's journal we are led to believe that one child yet remains." It was certainly not the news that Rahal, Ra, or Isis would be pleased to hear.

"It appears however this may be, that the Lessard family was prolific in it's creation of everchildren." Catherine said as she passed across a copies of a page in Vincents journal, before pulling it up on the projector in the room. "Dated sometime in the 1930's, it appears that this child, Terun, was the forerunner of most, if not all of the Lessard everchildren."

He really hated dealing with Dumitrescu. She had no sense of anything important. The man gave her a glare equal to her own. Damned woman. She took everything far too personally. Still, the thick stack of notes did appease him somewhat. She had clearly been working if nothing else. He paid close attention to the presentation.

“Two contractors down thanks to a child vampire?” That was a bit pitiful. “However the note that the Lessard girl is taken care of is very welcome. Ra will be pleased to hear that news at least.” Unspoken went the fact that the addition of a second child vampire to the ranks would result in the exact opposite.

Still, he accepted the copy of the journal page and skimmed through it. Such narrow handwriting, and so thin as well. It suited the Lessard patriarch well then. The age frowned darkly at it. “By the looks of it, the boy, Terun, has all the skills needed to be behind the attacks. A preference for child victims…he’s probably left a trail of death behind him that you could track.” At least in modern times.

Molly nodded in agreement. “I’ll get the twins started on that analysis after the meeting. There’s likely a string of ‘mysterious’ child deaths and disappearances wherever he went. Maybe we’ll be able to close other cases.” She’d have to show them how to get started and give them a list of databases to pull from. It wouldn’t be too bad.

Rahal glanced up. “Ra will likely request access to any more of Vincent Lessard’s journals MCU has access to in order to ensure no more child vampires exist from this crazed line.”

The twins each nodded, Tristia marking a few things down on the notepad she had brought with her. They would do this and they would do it right damnit.

"Of course, that can be arranged. I will speak with our archivist about granting Ra access." Catherine agreed. She had no desire to piss off the king of the dragon court, in fact she'd rather that he stay at arm's length and well away from MCU. "As for the contractors, I'll add that your side is responsible for taking Hammerstein down; Utgart didn't show up." She said tersely. While Brandon had been the one to make the choice to appeal to the vampire court, it still put her down a contractor with a very handy skill set.

"Oh, there's more to it Rahal. We have reason to believe he's currently residing in the Lessard home." Catherine said. Skimming her notes, she quickly skipped slides to a series of photos taken inside the home. "As you can see from the photos that Boyaun took, there are several altars which will need to be taken care of." She said before flicking to the next slide. "As you can see there are recent offerings to the deity of the altar, and..." Catherine continued flipping again through her notes. "More recent activity in house as evidenced from a notebook we retrieved."

He smirked ever so slightly. So they had been. “Yes, well. He did rather insult the court of the dragon.” He said very simply. “It’s no surprise.” Asking for refuge for a child vampire who had attacked on their grounds? That was incredibly offensive. Besides, Isis had wanted to send a clear message. They weren’t going to tolerate hiding vampires from them, or tolerate any insults given. “We left him alive out of respect for you.” He said simply and shrugged. Respect for Catherine didn’t mean for MCU of course. The respect was largely thanks to who her father was anyway, in the courts. “He broke the laws, harboring a child vampire. Death was the sentence, but given his illness, it hardly matters that he was left alive.” Rahal was just being an ass now, and subsided.

Molly frowned and glanced to Catherine, and the photos, before speaking up, trying to interrupt the two. Brandon’s illness would have to be addressed later. “We really should just burn this place to the ground. If we’re lucky he’ll be inside at the time, and a nice heavy dose of cleansing fire would take care of any and all altars inside as well.” It would also be very satisfying to do so.

Xiaolian was lucky to not run into the child when she had been in there. With luck, he may not realize it, or he simply used it as a base, and wouldn’t notice any changes.

Sighing inwardly as she listened to Rahal, Catherine was too tired and stressed to take the bait that the mage had planted for her. "Don't you think it's time we move on from that, Rahal?" She asked plainly. The topic of Brandon's illness wasn't really something she was quite ready to address, especially in something like a staff meeting; however with Rahal's big mouth she was going to have to. "Besides which, I'll address Hammerstein's absence in a moment."

"Excellent idea Bronson, a live burn of the Lessard house should destroy anything nefarious." Or so she hoped. Catherine just hoped that they'd find Terun soon, as the longer she let this go, the worse things became. "If anything that may flush him out into the open." She added thoughtfully. The child would have to come forward sooner or later, and what they'd do with him was another question altogether.

Plus it meant a huge fire, and everyone liked that. "A team then, and scheduled with the fire department. They don't need to know why it's being burned, only that it is." She said simply. This was going to be fun. Molly smiled slightly. She could arrange this easily enough. "I can handle that aspect, Warden." It was best to split up the work as much as possible, and given the size of their team, they could afford to.

Rahal nodded. "Of course, I apologize." He said simply, and sat back, watching. His father would be very happy to learn that Bethany Lessard was gone, but this new one...that would be upsetting. It would not be fun telling him either. "It sounds like an excelelnt plan to destroy his lair, but what will you do if he is not inside?"

She didn't believe his apology for a moment, the man was so self absorbed and more than likely sorry that she didn't take the bait and he got caught. "Alright, then you have until the end of the week to see that it happens Bronson." Catherine of course would want to supervise the burn of the house, if only to see that such a miserable place finally saw it's end. "In the mean time, like Sergeant Bronson here said, you, officers L'ange, will be combing back through our database and Dallas County's to find anything out of the ordinary."

"It's a start Rahal, realize that unless you or Ra wish to take care of this problem yourself, you're going to have to learn to exercise some patience."

The twins both nodded. Inwardly they were rather relieved. No major separations today. They would still work separately of course, but they wouldn't be distracted. They kept their link tightly shut, but a few minor head movements communicated to each other that they would speak after the meeting.

“Yes ma’am.” It was going to be fun. Molly would just have to keep the glee out of her voice. She managed, this time, to suppress the giggles of glee at hearing the word Sergeant before her name. She did not manage to stop the huge grin. It had been very hard fought to get to that rank, and involved way too many hours of very hard thankless work, and being passed over multiple times, to her sheer annoyance.

It was a very new appointment too. She was rather happy about it.

Rahal nodded. “It is an excellent start. Even with the set back of a second Everchild, Ra will be pleased to learn of the progress.” Very. And the plan in place would make him happy. “If the child is not found dead, or killed at the scene, then I assume you can come up with a plan. Please update me if so.” He stood and nodded to Catherine, ignoring everyone else. He was here for politics not for pleasure after all. “Thank you.” With that he left.

Molly watched him go. “…so gloomy.”

Kasimir woke much later in the medical wing of MCU, though he kept his eyes closed at first in deference to the pounding headache he could already feel hammering at him. What the hell kind of back lash was this? He opened one eye, tentatively, only to see the one face that he didn't particularly want to see first thing. The vampire groaned.

Rahal snorted and stuck a juice box full of blood under his nose. "Drink, oh mighty and aged Councilor, and know father says hello, commends you on your service, and calls you an idiot." Oh this was all too good. The mage was clearly greatly amused by Kasimir's plight. "I'm also to assist with whatever knocked you out, and father is mightily upset that you didn't, you know, call on me for help in the first place, given you are a vampire and I am supposed to be at the council's service." Supposed to. Purportedly.

Kasimir glared at Rahal with his one open eye. "Boy, if you don't shut up, I'll drink from you."

The pale mage went quiet, for a moment then spoke. "Under the circumstances, if you ask, I would allow it this once. I bullied the nurse into briefing me. A missing officer...if you need fresh blood, then drink." He could down a potion and be better in time. Kasimir eyes the ambassador briefly then nodded and sat up, motioning for the younger man to come over and bare his neck. Annoyed, Rahal did just that, letting Kasimir feed from him and flipping off the scandalized looking nurse. The magic in his veins, fresh, would help the vampire heal a hell of a lot faster than just lying there or stale lifeless blood would. He didn't often let other's feed from him, but this was a bit of a special circumstance.

All she could remember was lurching backwards suddenly to break off the connection between herself and the others; after that she couldn't remember much more, it was all blurry and indistinct. "Cât e ceasul?" She muttered to herself momentarily forgetting her English as she moved her arm to look at her watch. But apparently that and much of the rest of her things had been removed. 'Care este motivul?' Catherine thought with mild panic which was soon overcome once she realized she was in the medical wards. They were able to treat just about everything but the most serious of injuries there, or so they had explained to her some time ago.

Groaning slightly, she found everything was too bright, too loud, too painful and felt numb all at the same time; it was the strangest feeling. Catherine couldn't recall the last time she had been out for so long. Granted she had been knocked out cold before, but it had never been by such vicious psychic feedback. "Oh Christ.." She muttered as a fresh wave of pain gripped her, she had little regard or patience currently for keeping her words polite.
