Thomas Reznik's Story

The descent into the archives was, for the most part peaceful. Well, for him it was. For the director and the assistant director, he was sure they were feeling rather run ragged. "...cancer. If that's the problem with the boy, of course he can't be on the rolls." He finished up as the elevator doors opened to the archives. "However, that hardly changes the fact that I'm going to have to put a binding on him. Given his magic, it may even slow down the spread." He pointed out to Reznik, who nodded, rather wanting the other man to leave, and leave now.

It wasn't to be. Kasimir was having entirely too much fun with his surprise inspection to just up and leave. The man smiled as he glanced about the archives. Now this was a familiar site. It seemed that the only thing that changed about archives over the centuries was what the files were stored in. He glanced around and shrugged. "Now, point out this Kurt Bannon to me so I can get this interview over with." The man didn't want to waste too much time on ensuring that this particular peon wasn't about to go spilling the secrets of the Unseen to mortals, again. The inspection had enough other aspects to it after all.

The best part, of course, had been the element of surprise to the entire thing. He did like hassling offices in his official capacity. Dallas was the most fun because of the expression on Catherine's face when she saw him, of course, but he was known for doing this around the globe.

Kurt gave a thin, leathery smile. The guy was definitely starting to show his age. "Good afternoon, gentlemen," he managed before remembering to put down the book. "Can I, uh, help you find anything?"

He wasn't sure exactly what was going on, but given the unchanged expression on the faces of the newcomers, something was up. That was the look Catherine gave him whenever he did something bone-headed. "Is something the matter?" He nervously adjusted his new green archivist's robe. Or at least, it was something he wore to feel more official. Okay, it was a new bath robe.

"...A little help here? This is, uh, quite unexpected. Please tell me why you're here."

Kasimir stared at this man in shock. Was that a bathrobe? The councilor, once he regained his senses turned to the director. "Director Reznik, I was not aware that MCU was in the habit of hiring madmen." He said, speaking slow, so said madman could understand exactly what he was saying. Was he spending the night in the archives or some sort of nonsense like that? The councilor frowned. "Please tell me that this isn't Bannon?"

The director swallowed, then spoke. "Councilor, may I introduce you to our newest archivist, Kurt Bannon. I'm sure he's just unaware of the dress code, sir. I'll get him briefed straight away." He assured the much more powerful man and said man looked Kurt over, derision clear in his eyes. This man could not be allowed to get away with besmirching MCU like this. Kasimir took it much too seriously to allow this nonsense to continue.

"...I believe I shall wait until Mr. Bannon is appropriately attired before I speak with him. I'll be upstairs in either the conference room, or June's office."

Kurt flushed, cowering behind his book. "D-dress code? I just thought it made me look more...scholarly?" He sighed and took the robe off, revealing an otherwise passable outfit of a black cardigan with khakis and wingtip shoes. What was it with first days on the job that made them suck?

"S-sir? Is this okay? I just wanted to look the part and not just another office worker...I'm really sorry..." Kinda meek and lukewarm response. Very beta. "I...if I'm passable now, I guess we could have that conference. I wasn't told there would be an inspection." Then he did something he almost never did. He took the stairs like a normal person, following Kasimir to the designated meeting point with his tail between his legs the whole time.

He may not have the best fashion sense. Or people sense. But damn it, he was good at his job...why couldn't people like him?
