"Yeah. Yeah that's a good thought." He should have checked it out before. And the idea that she had been abducted caused his eyes widen and his throat to close. No. No, she can't have been abducted, because if she was abducted chances were that she had been killed. You did not keep a child vampire around under any circumstances. She was harmless, little more than an untrained fledgling, but still, she was his littlest sister, his baby sister. "Coffee, black." He could use cop coffee right about now. The man stood again abruptly and began to pace, unable to stay still.

"Oh God, this is not good. She's not supposed to leave the grounds at all." A lonely life, but it was hers to live. He shook his head. "And if she is found, what are the chances that the agent doesn't shoot her on sight?" He demanded of Faust. He well knew how child vampires were viewed, and they could decide that it was clear the girl, past 18 years in existence, was culpable for any deaths she had caused. The sentence would be an immediate death if that was the case. She was such a little girl too, and he faster and then shook his head. This wasn't a good thing. This was a very bad thing, and Bethy was in danger, and he shouldn't have come here and he was hyperventilating now.

There was a coffee machine not far from his desk, so Faust slowly made his way to it while keeping his eyes trained on Brandon. Pouring a cup of coffee, he smiled as he walked over, handing it to the man. It was true, child vampires were viewed as abominations in some circles, but Faust wasn't about to see anything happen to the poor girl. He just couldn't rationalize how a mere child, mentally at least, could be blamed for any harm she does. "Listen, I don't plan on letting that happen. Besides, I say we find her before it can." Pacing about his desk, he was unnerved by the fact that so many oddities existed in this city. He sure knew how to pick them as transfers go. But he'd pledged to do some good in the MCU, so this was a good start.

"How about we split up to cover more ground? Give me the addresses of this bar and warehouse and I'll go take a look myself. You head to your old house and see if she is there. Don't worry. We're going to find her." Maybe having used the phrase abducted was a strong word. But Faust had to contemplate all the possibilities, however unlikely. Beth couldn't have gone far, but then again who knew how long she'd been missing for.

Xiaolian couldn't help but overhear Brandon's predicament, then again you'd have to be deaf to not hear a grown man hyperventilating. "That coffee isn't going to help you at all, tea is much better." She said matter of factly as she poked her head around the corner of the wall that formed the cubical near Faust's desk. "Besides which, you're already in deep trouble as it is." She added mischievously. Xioalian knew what the protocols were, she also knew that Brandon was avoiding addressing the situation with the Warden's who's plates were already full enough. However, eventually it'd have to make it's way up the food chain, and by then they'd be none too pleased.

"If you're avoiding telling the Wardens, I'd suggest you and Mr.Psych case over here figure it out real quick. Because if you're gonna split up, you know that's always how someone ends up dead." She commented making an exaggerated and comical slicing motion across the neck, and above her sweater. "Seriously though, which one of you two dolts thinks splitting up is a good idea?"

"...Shut Up Xiaolian." Brandon groaned, having managed to get his breathing under control. She was, unfortunately entirely too correct. He just didn't want to go to the Wardens over it. "As if my aunt wouldn't know I was hiding something the minute she saw me." She was scary that way. She had also raised him and knew his expressions way too well. "And Faust here does. She's a child vampire. I'm not stupid enough to try and find one on my own, specifically one who quite likely is on the edge of blood lust." He took a deep breath.

"She was never taught how to hunt or that her special juice is blood." He said quietly. "...Alice and Sarah's bodies were decayed." He explained quietly. "Badly." Meaning it had been some time. By now, she had likely figured out feeding. Oh God, he didn't know if he wanted her to have figured that out or not. This was bad. The man closed his eyes and downed a good half of the coffee, scalding his tongue in the process. Brandon took a breath and then shook his head. "Someone she doesn't recognize looking for her will just cause her to hide." That much was true. Beth would hide like hell if she thought someone mean was there.

Perhaps Faust wasn't concerned for himself as much as he was for others. Going it alone was a prospect that never frightened Faust, no matter how bad of an idea it was. Although, they didn't know what exactly they were dealing with. And he hadn't much experience with vampires - a fledgling no less. Faust was eager to figure this predicament out, but he couldn't be hasty else he'd just be adding to the body count. "Mr. Psych case...?" He raised some questions with that statement, but it wasn't the first time he was mildly insulted. "You're probably right. Splitting up wasn't a good idea under the circumstances but this young girls well-being hangs in the balance. Even sitting here talking is only wasting time."

"Touche..." The petite woman muttered under her breath. It seemed that Brandon couldn't see the humor in anything with his sister missing. Especially with such a mild jab at both of them. "At least I'm not the one who was sitting here hyperventilating so the whole damn station would hear you." She muttered under her breath, knowing full well neither of them would hear her over the noise of phones, keyboards and other conversations.

Sliding her chair further out of the cubicle, she surveyed the two. "You Faust are not field verified with MCU, and you Mr. Hammerstein may have a conflict of interest in this." She pointed out before continuing. "That being said, while this is something of an emergency, " Everchildren were dangerous, even if those close to them claimed they weren't. "Either I accompany the two of you, along with another Senior ranking officer, or you tell the Wardens."

Brandon weight the options. Either way, the wardens would find out soon enough. Xiaolin had that right. He forced himself to calm down. "Fine." He muttered, and then took a breath. "And it's kind of obvious I have a conflict on interest. She's my baby sister." Though if you could call a person in her twenties a baby, even with the form and mentality of a six year old, he would be surprised.

Still, he took a breath and then looked to her, upset. "Is my aunt in, Xiaolin? I know she was out late last night." Laura had ended up bunking in her room in his place. It was rather amusingly enough an interesting way to keep track of any late night cases his aunt took. Laura would show up to spend the night. She bounced between the two homes as needed. That didn't matter though. Laura was perfectly safe right now, but Bethany... Who knew where Beth was?

A better question of course, was could he hide from his aunt that this was even happening, but the answer was no the minute he had shown up here in an empty hope that was had come here. He closed his eyes and took a breath. This was a horrible situation. Bethy was going to be killed, and he just knew it. Why did this shit happen to him? Was it punishment for his necromancy or his rap sheet?

And here Faust thought he could sneak out. He really did need to get field certified. No, at this point he absolutely had to. Faust could be doing so much more out in the field rather than cooped up behind a desk for the rest of his life. Though he wish he were back in Britian at times because he had a lot more freedoms there than he did here in Dallas. They followed the book to the letter. He supposed the decision was left to Brandon. Though, he thought Brandon should have told the Warden to begin with. Especially since he learned Warden Dumitrescu was Brandons aunt. "I guess I'm not in Britain anymore. Really need to look into this field certification thing." He muttered to himself, positioning himself back behind his desk. As soon as this situation was resolved, he would see the Warden personally about it. Hopefully she would receive him since their last encounter didn't go over so well.

It appeared Brandon would be seeing the Warden after all. But this was a bad time to propose he be field certified. There seemed to be very little Faust could do from here. He would just have to let things unfold and see how things progressed.

Xiaolian scowled at Brandon before replying. "Even if she was, do you really think I want to be the messenger Dumitrescu shoots for letting her know there's another everchild on the loose?" She asked hotly. "But no, she's not in.. I think Councilor Summers 'kidnapped' her." The woman said making quotation marks with her fingers. Everything about that pair was obvious, except to them.

"Anyway, let's get this show on the road. I'll grab Councilor Blackwelder on our way out." While June was technically a Councilor, she took a more active interest in helping out occasionally; not to mention she was the only person that Xiaolian could think of still left from the last everchild case that wasn't currently tied up with something else. "I can only cover for either one of you for so long, but hopefully this will buy you some time before you talk to Warden Bennet or Dumitrescu." Xiaolian just hoped she wasn't in over her head this time.

"What a time for a not-date." Her grumbled under his breath. Still, he breathed in and out, then nodded. "Sounds good. June's got a good head on her shoulders." And wasn't about to kill Beth on site, like some officers would. Not that there was anything wrong with this for most Everchildren, but Beth was such a sweet girl. She deserved a chance. Besides, like Xiaolian said, it would give him a chance.

"And I'll tell the wardens...when we get back, if she hasn't been found." That was a perfectly reasonable compromise. If she was found, then there was nothing to worry about, and he had a feeling neither recalled anything about the double homicide in the house he had gone to.

A double homicide which meant he clearly couldn't take Bethy back there. He'd have to dip into on of his old funds to see about a new house. Maybe a smaller one. Bethy could be talked into downsizing, he was sure. He'd just get her a cat or something to make up for it. That would do it right? Damn, with the other two dead, that meant he was solely responsible for an eternally six year old girl. This was going to be a lot harder.

Was Faust in over his head? He wasn't yet field certified so if going out in the field wasn't bad enough, he was chasing after a vampire; an everchild. Although Beth didn't sound dangerous, things could change at a moments notice. And here Faust was willing to go it alone not but a few minutes ago - thankfully he didn't. "So I guess we're doing this?" He spoke aloud, realizing he didn't even have a gun. Defenseless, aside from his own intelect. But that would only get him so far. There was no thinking your way out of a possible vampire attack. "Let's get this show on the road... I guess."

Pacing behind his desk, he smiled as he walked over to where Brandon was at. "Lead the way." Depending if he made it out of this alive, he might have to reconsider being field certified. It was dangerous out there, after all. In truth, Faust wasn't sure what he wanted to do. Molly had given him a big head by saying he should be certified. Though he did tire of always looking at a case from behind a folder.

"Alright, that's reasonable I suppose. But one way or another you probably will still have to tell them." She replied, figuring it was best not to agree with the necromancer right at that very moment. While she did agree that the Warden picked some really inopportune times to be out of the office, she could also sympathize that she probably wanted someone to talk to without constant interruption.

However, Xiaolian just didn't want to be present for whenever or if Brandon had to speak with his aunt and the other Warden. The way she figured it, half the office would be both eavesdropping on the conversation and trying to make themselves scarce at the same time; after all shit did tend to roll down hill.

Sighing as she looked at the pair, and realizing that she was going to be stuck as a babysitter, she just shook her head. "Alright you two, follow me." Hopefully the other Councilor would be in her office, if not then they were entirely screwed seven ways from sunday.

Brandon nodded and followed her, running a hand through his hair as he tried to think of how to best put this to June. She was in the know, so would likely connect plenty of dots herself, but he hoped that the other would be understanding. Bethy, Everchild or not, was his baby sister. He couldn't just abandon her. The necromancer frowned and followed a little closer. June had always been kind and understanding. It would be okay.

He swallowed, nerves getting to him. It was too late now. He had panicked. Aunt Catherine was going to be pissed as hell with him, for multiple reasons. Still, he followed Xiaolin to June's office door and then narrowed his eyes on her. It was an easy bet that she assumed she'd be babysitting them in the field. Whatever. Brandon was certified as a contractor, technically. He didn't need a baby sitter. Normally. With Bethy missing, he might, maybe, over react a little, but he didn't need a babysitter.

"Oh just calm down already." Xiaolian huffed in annoyance, looking over at Brandon as she knocked and opened the door to June's office. "Councilor? Do you have a minute? We've got a bit of an issue here." She said looking over her shoulder at Brandon and Faust. It was a good thing she had over heard them, and decided to make their business, her business; it did technically lessen the problems later.

"Yes, of course, please come in!" June answered cheerfully. It was a drastic contrast for most between the Councilor and the over worked Warden. "What can I do for you?" She asked looking at the trio.

"Bethany Lessard is missing." He said, worrying in every line of his body. "She's not in the Lessard Family home. Alice and Sarah, her caretakers were deceased. No bite marks." He said quickly. It was going to be okay, it absolutely had to be. The man ran a hand through his hair. "Please Councilor. She's my baby sister." The other knew that and he ran a hand through his hair again, desperate for some kind of relief from the worry.

Beth had no concept of time or anythign else. "...She remains unaware she's a vampire, June. She has no clue the Lessard family is largely dead." For reasons he would not go into. "She has no concept of death, and no clue that she drinks blood." He kept his voice even as he could, though it was clearly still very worried. The man bit his bottom lip and swallowed, fear clear on his face. "I...I know she's not supposed to...I know she's an Everchild, but please. She's never done anything illegal. She doesn't even hunt for her own blood, she gets it through a special service." Please, please don't kill his baby sister. The panic was clear in his eyes. Please, don't let his baby sister die because of whatever happened.

The man has spoken quickly the entire time, and he stepped forward, fear very clear in his eyes. Bethy was on of the reasons he hadn't settled down. How did you explain to someone that you supported a small child, who would, in fact, always be a child.

June frowned and looked from Xiaolian to Brandon. "Did you know about this Xiaolian?" June asked the officer who had escorted Brandon and Faust into her office. "Honestly Councilor? Today is really the first I've heard of it." She said with a shrug. Leave it up to the Warden's nephew to fuck things up again, as if she didn't have enough to do already, he decided to add more on top of it all. "He doesn't want to talk to Dumitrescu or Bennet." She added shooting Brandon a glare.

Crossing her arms, June looked from Xiaolian to Brandon trying to sort out what exactly was going on. "So your 'sister' is missing Mr. Hammerstein and you don't even have the faintest idea of where she's gone?" She asked her tone now quite serious. Everchildren were the one issue that the vampire community and courts at large always wanted to sweep under the rug, never owning up to their own indiscriminate habits. "He wanted to drag Mr. Nequam here out into the field with him, but he's not certified." Xiolian said jerking a thumb towards the psychologist. "I said it was a bad idea, it's only going to add fuel to the fire he's starting." She added bluntly.

"You're right. This does bear investigation, however I don't feel comfortable with what we have to work with at the moment. Though... I suppose I can't exactly be picky, now can I?" June said mulling over the fact that Brandon was a contractor who was normally on thin ice with the Council, Nequam was new and completely uncertified, then there was Xiaolian who usually wanted to work on her own. Sighing in frustration, she considered her options; they were few. "I'll help, but the field work must be done by you, Brandon, and Xiaolian. Nequam, you'll analyze anything that comes in and I'll try to get you resources to do so."

"I don't. At sunset, the best I can do is try and ask the vampire who delivers her blood." He admitted, voice very quiet. It was the best he could do. "She doesn't know that many places." He admitted quietly. The he swallowed and shook his head. This would be very bad. The man closed his eyes.

"I just want to look for her for now. If we don't find her by sunset, I'll own up to the wardens." He said very quietly. The man swallowed, looking rather nervous at the idea. Aunt Catherine was going to kill him. "I know you can't exactly cover for us like this, not for long." If at all. The man swallowed again and closed his eyes. Please, please let his little sister be found very soon. Despite his dearest desires, he knew very well that the truth of the matter was Beth was dangerous, incredibly so. "Please. Just until sunset."

She would be awake if lethargic.

"Do you think he'll even know anything?" Xiaolian asked, her tone accusatory. This necromancer nephew of Dumitrescu's seemed to ber to be naive and inexperienced, who else would pull an officer that he knew was new to go out into the field with. It made no sense to her, especially since he claimed there were still Lessard everchildren left.

"Hush Xiaolian." June said as she saw the other begin to lay into Brandon. Turning to Brandon, she offered him a gentle, reassuring smile. "I know you're worried, and I know that your sister is important to you. However," She said, putting emphasis on the last word. "I can only give you one, maybe two days. Depending on how long Alexander's sabbatical is, because to my knowledge he's dragged your Aunt with."

"New guy invited myself, Xiaolian." He snarled at her. "I just asked if he had seen her, in case she came here." The new guy had invited himself into the field. Still, the remaining Lessard Everchildren weren't dangerous, at least in his eyes. But there were times he forgot that others didn't have his powers of abilities. After all, despite the family trait of necromancy, it was also their weakness. It came from being undead.

The man nodded. "Thank you June. That has to be enough to find her." He'd check all his old haunts, even his old workshop, if he had to. She had to be somewhere she had already been right? There were only so many places the girl was familiar with. The little girl was heavily sheltered after all. Even Alice and Sarah knew better than to let her out in public, where others might figure out the family secret.

And then the second part of that sentence registered, and he stared at June in horror. "You guys let him out on sabbatical? With my aunt?" He had heard stories, and was a little shocked that this had been allowed at all. "Okay. That's all kinds of beyond another one of their Not-Dates." This was going to be very interesting. At least they had a warden to cover for Catherine, given that bombshell. There would be paperwork.

June just gave Brandon a shrug, "It was either that or continue to let him come up with new and... interesting ways to torture your co-workers." She said nonchalantly. Though to be honest, R and D did tend to keep him busy enough, but the last experiment with the explosives had gone a little too far. "Though in all seriousness, they probably both need it. The fact that they both went together? Well they're adults and both quite capable." June explained slowly. To be honest, she really would rather see two people happy than one miserable.

"At least I don't get myself deliberately kidnapped and used as some sicko's wood carving project." Xiaolian growled in return. The whole office had had a field day with that one, especially since Brandon was one of the few contractors who had been offered a permanent position within MCU. "Who hell does that shit?" She asked no one in particular.

The was true enough. They did probably both need it. Besides, the two did so much together, it really wasn't surprising that they did this too. The office would be fine with only Ezra. He was new, but capable, right? You didn't make Warden without being very capable. Brandon nodded. "Aunt Catherine has been pretty stressed lately. Between work and taking in a teen..." He tried to take Laura off his Aunt's hands whenever possible, but it wasn't always possible at all.

"And it wasn't deliberate. I had gone to get some information. I discovered Laura there. My skills aren't exactly conducive to use around civilians." At all, even those in the know. His magic tended to make people ill. Still, he turned to June, determined to stay on target. "Thank you Councilor. I'll find her in time." He assured her and then swallowed, rather nervously. He would have to find her in time, wouldn't he? There wasn't much of a choice.

He either found Beth, or someone else did and Beth would be killed.

Xiaolian just rolled her eyes at Brandon. "Yeah sure, and then sicko had his way with you, which included carving pretty pictures into your neck." She said sarcastically. How could a Warden's nephew be so stupid? He hadn't even communicated his intent to act as bait, if that's what he had intended to do. Xiaolian suspected that there was another motive in his getting captured, and she didn't know what to think about it. Everything these days was entirely too complicated for her liking, and nothing was as cut and dry as it used to be.

June just gave Brandon a sympathetic smile. "I hope you do, because the consequences will not be fun for any of us if you don't."

Brandon's eyes narrowed on Xiaolin. "It's not like I didn't communicate I was going there." He snarled and then forced himself to calm down and pay attention to June again. "Thank you Councilor. We better get going." They had quite the list to get through. The old Lessard Mansion. Two old lab locations from when he was making money rather illegally. The gardens would be a good choice to check out as well, he supposed.

And finally, the bar/hotel combo where he and Bethany had stayed while waiting for their rooms to be made ready at the old Lessard Mansion. It was possible, though unlikely, that the little girl had gone there. He ran a hand over his face as he tried to think of anywhere else Bethany may have gotten too. She didn't exactly have a big world. Still, it was possible that the little girl's world had been rather suddenly and unexpectedly enlarged. If they didn't find her at any of those locations, he'd return to her home alone and began to search the nearby area. If he used his magic, he could detect any vampires nearby, and maybe she'd show up that way.

The man ignored the fact that he had searched the immediate area this way already. He must have missed something. He must have.

"Yeah, sure." Xiaolian muttered under her breath. She suspected that half of what had gotten him in trouble was his constant desire to play hero. What did he have to prove anyway? Either way, Xiaolian just hoped that this little trip would prove successful, because she really didn't want to catch hell from the Director plus either one of the Wardens for volunteering for all of this.

"Yes you should, daylight is fading and soon you may have more than an everchild to deal with." June remarked plainly. This close to the solstice, there would be all sorts of night dwelling denizens of the unseen out; some more dangerous than others.

Ushering the trio out of her office, she just hoped she was able to buy them enough time without meddling too much. "Keep your wits about you, and try not to fight so much. It's a problem."

If asked what he had to prove, Brandon would have said nothing. If pressed hard, he'd say that he was a good man, sane, and not a mass murdering little dick of a boy. But people rarely pressed Brandon hard. The man nodded and led the way out. They had quite a few locations to cover. They had to get them done before Aunt Catherine returned because he had no doubt that the moment she stepped into the office, she would hear that he had been here, and what he had been saying.

He waved goodbye to June as he left, and then looked to Faust. "June is right. There might be other things out and about and very attracted to some of the locations we'll have to go. You probably want to stay behind for this." He hadn't even considered how close it was to the solstice. The necromancer shrugged. "I'll be fine with Xiaolian." He didn't work with her if he could help it, but he knew her to be good at her job.

Just because she was a bit of a bitch didn't mean that she wasn't a competent bitch, after all. The woman was very good at what she did, from his understanding. He just didn't like her as a person and she made it clear that she didn't like him as a person either.
