Welcome to Era High School, located in Phoenix, Arizona, with a total student population of 3000. It’s the most popular and well known school in the district. The extreme student body makes it a diverse place. It’s not known for educating geniuses, producing sports stars, or for being musically talented. It’s not known for anything except that each year the amount of teenagers enrolling seems to get bigger and bigger. Era is home to some whiz kids, athletes, and prodigies. But it is also home for some of the less intelligent, introverts, and skillfully inept. There’s a wide spectrum of what types of people you’ll run into around here.

Like any high school, Era has its cliques and packs. There are groups of people who cling together for dear life just trying to survive the four years ahead of them. There are groups of people who collect endless lists of acquaintances they party with. There are groups of people who spend their lunches together in the art rooms. But they aren’t your typical teenage clans. Instead of the geeks, jocks, and hipsters, the kids at Era go by a totally different system.

Each particular clique of students is dedicated to an era. Strange, right? There are the grunge kids, from the 90’s, who don’t wash their hair or care about their clothes. There’s the hippies, straight from the 60’s, who preach about world peace and smoke up behind the school during spare. Among these groups are many more, all emerging from a different era in the past. This isn’t time travel, for all these kids are from this generation and decade, but simply a massive case of born in the wrong time period. It’s not sure when this mentality adopted, but it’s been going on for years and the next group of freshman always fall into the pattern, carrying it out until senior year and teaching those below them the ropes. Every student finds a place – and time – where they belong at Era.

✯ THE 1950's: GOLDEN ERA.
Key Traits » Tough, Lively, Defensive.
Poodle skirts and leather jackets are worn all around. The girls are usually giggly and bubbly, the guys are tough and cool. Cigarettes, cars, and curls are all this group is really concerned about. James Dean and Marilyn Monroe are the most idolized actors. Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley make them turn up their jukeboxes. They rarely watch TV, but if they do it’s black and white movies like Singing in the Rain.

✯ THE 1960's: PSYCHEDELIC ERA.
Key Traits » Mellow, Simple, Negligent.
This decade was most notable for Woodstock, and this bunch of kids act like they were there. Tie-dye, braids, sundresses, and flower crowns are how this group accessories. Don’t forget brown leather flops and peace and love, and other drugs. Every one of them wishes they owned a Volkswagen Beetle they could take to the drive-in to watch Psycho. They’re always jiving to The Beatles or Bob Dylan.

Key Traits » Loud, Wild, Passionate.
Dirty back alley bars and loud concerts are where you’ll find this gang. They like ripped t-shirts with rock logos splashed on the front and jeans torn by hand with platforms to finish. They try to emulate the heavy rock ‘n roll lifestyle by cranking Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and David Bowie while boozing. Their prized possessions are their record players and record collections, and the occasional electric guitar.

Key Traits » Vain, Superficial, Dramatic.
Materialistic, greedy, and self-indulgent are qualities spread across this lot. They’re noticed by their bright colours, big hair, and heavy make-up and accessories. You’ll catch them dancing around their rooms in leg warmers and a crop top to Madonna, Michael Jackson, or New Kids On The Block. They’re interested in music videos, John Hughes’ movies, and themselves.

Known for their greasy tangled long hair and ratty flannel, this group doesn’t care about their appearance at all. They prefer to wear things until their very tearing point. They’re known for being deep and poetic, but also lazy, and listen to bands such as Nirvana and Smashing Pumpkins because they can relate. They like action and violent movies, ie. Pulp Fiction. Most of them drive rusty lemons.

These are the kids only stuck three years ago. They survive through their iPods and are into fads like Harry Potter. Pop music is big amongst this group. *NSYNC and Britney Spears are often what they’ve got blaring from their headphones. Uggs, Lettermans, skinny jeans, and cardigans are what this bunch is dressing up in. They like the mall a whole lot and still quote movies like Mean Girls.
