Ein Crowley

"Everywhere you turn there's a war to be won, or a despot to depose. Where's the love and peace?"
Dig The Crazy - Faith Marie

Full Name
Lady Ein Crowley

Little Crow
Bloody Crow

Formerly Crow's Rest

All Ein is looking for is a home

General Description
As pale as snow, Ein's silver hair frames her angular face and presents a violent contrast when tinged with blood. Rarely does her expression belay emotions, rather its a mask of composure. She's rarely seen without her customary attire, a keepsake from Crow's Rest, and her blade is ever by her side. Eyes like sea-glass stare into your soul, though sometimes there is the hint of something darker in those eyes.

Cold, calm, and quiet. Ein doesn't like to express emotion, regardless of the effect that has on others. Protecting her village is her life, and it comes second to nothing to her. The citizens within are all like family to her, but she doesn't coddle family. The beasts of the wilds annoy her, and she prefers not to leave the town unless on business. Others might think she has her nose in the air, but that never bothers Ein. Distrustful to a fault, and more than willing to sacrifice someone for the greater good, one can't help but question just why she's doing all this.

Ein practices being a homemaker in her free time, hoping to one day marry and settle down. Though she's loathe to admit it, her housewife skills could use some work, and when she isn't working as a mercenary, she can be found in her village doing just that. When not on duty, she goes for long walks throughout the town and nearby countryside fantasizing about a different life she might have lived had she not become a soldier.

To fall in love and marry, have children and live a happy life in an idyllic village, preferably before she loses her mind completely to the draw of Blood Magic. She also fantasizes often about what might have happened had she never become a mage, what would her family be like, and would she already be in love?

Blood Mage

Physical Strengths
Ein is an accomplished duelist, capable of wielding twin blades with equal efficacy. Even without magic, her endurance is prodigious, and as such extended engagements are her strong suit. Her cool nature allows her to meticulously analyze a battlefield, drawing up a winning strategy in even the most dire straits.

Physical Weaknesses
Relying on blood magic to shield herself has caused Ein to become rather frail, being weaker than the average person when her magic isn't active. Due to this, alcohol also goes right through her, and once her cold and calm exterior drop, the unhinged broken psyche is all that remains.

Magic Strengths
Blood magic, the internal battery that has always kept Ein alive. Willingness to dip into that forbidden power is her greatest strength, and she often fires off spells that would've taken a suicidal level of mana otherwise. Secondarily, overdrawing on her own life essence sometimes sends her into a violent episode, becoming capable of wielding Blood Magic her conscious mind had otherwise repressed.

Magic Weaknesses
Like most blood mages, Ein turned to this dark path due to her own lack of natural mana. Additionally constant overuse of Blood Magic has already begun chipping away at her sanity, and overdrawing on her own life essence can bring about lapses in sanity coupled with violent episodes, perhaps that's the true reason she never returned to Crow's Rest. Light magic seems to have an increased effect on her, for better or worse, and sometimes triggers her violent episodes

Weapon Skills
A twin sword that separates into dual swords, an extension of Ein's self. As much part of her life's blood as the very blood she wields. Her swordplay is an elaborate dance of the two blades as they sweep together, and apart. Her fights are often awe-inspiring and beautiful, ribbons of blood flecked away from blades moving so fast as to almost be invisible

Protection Type
The officer's uniform that Crow's Rest gave her still offers her some small protection. However her defense is largely thanks to Blood Magic, dispersing force across a wider area, or sealing shut her wound with sutures made from clotted blood. One the blood starts flowing, it's almost impossible to get a clean hit on Lady Crowley

The Story so Far
Crow's Rest has stood for as long as Ein can remember, her family had always protected it with their unique mutation. Everyone in her family was expected to die for the City. Rather than daunted by the task, she embraced it for the sake of the home she loved. As a child, every life lost to the beasts of the wilds haunted her, dredging up terrible nightmares about what lay just outside the city. Once she was of age to hold a sword, her father trained her to succeed him, however he died when she was only Eleven. Still too young to join the guards, she trained with her Uncle to continue her Father's dream. Before long, she joined him in defending the city, and occasionally venturing deep into the untamed country. It was on one of these expeditions that her Uncle was captured by a beast of the Wilds. It was too risky to try and rescue him, so her Uncle pleaded with Ein to run. She swallowed her pride, and retreated, but never returned home. She now lives in a small farming village out in the countryside, defending the peasantry from the same fate that befell her family.

Ein's only meaningful relationship is her village, and the people in it. They're the only family she has left

The door went suddenly open and two tall figures walked in. As they went into the reach of the lights, it was revealed that these are two men, one wearing a mage's robe and a pretty silly hat, while the other one, a real mountain when it comes to height, was wearing an armor made out of some strange material no one in the room could recognize. Both took a seat at one of the free tables, contemplating the warmth and the cozy atmosphere the Jackall had to offer.
β€œNow that's some lovely place, don't you think so, brother?” asked the mage, smirking the whole time. β€œPerhaps I can make it even lovelier. Hey, bartender, tonight all drinks go on me!” he yelled, so everyone present could hear him. β€œNow that's how you attract their attention.” he said quiet towards his companion.
β€œWas it really necessary, brother?” the tall man made himself more comfortable on the table and took off his helmet.
β€œWell, if you want people to notice you, you have to first pique their interest. And that's what I did. You need a job and this place looks better like an orc's yurt, so stop complaining.” the mage also took off the silly hat.
β€œI can't say you didn't pique their interest. I just can't stand all those people looking at me like that.” the warrior noticed too many stares coming their way. This wasn't going to be a peaceful evening, for sure.
β€œWell, I only threw the bait, now I'm waiting for the catch.” the mage didn't see that bothered, smirking a lot. Oh, this evening will be interesting, for sure.

Rumors carry from city to city, albeit slowly, and after some time word of a horror in the Woods had even made its way to Ein. No one asked her directly, of course, her nature as a retired adventurer is kept well-hidden from those who would pry. However the constant attacks have led to a shortage of herbs and natural medicinal supplements, which Ein had to hear about the last time she was out picking flowers.

Thus she was lost deep in the Ebezon Woods, picking loose strands of cobweb out of her hair, searching for some kind of proverbial snipe that had been terrorizing people traveling through the Woods, but hasn't been identified or seen. Her eyes glowed with the light of transmutation, a simple spell that would allow her to see in darker environments, but not in total darkness. Not unlike a cat's eyes, though marginally more susceptible to bright lights, retinal control isn't something one simply finesses into existence.

At the back of her mind was the scratchy odd thought that hunting in dark forests for monsters that preyed on people wasn't her life anymore, but she squashed the annoyance just as soon as it started to rise. The cobwebs were getting thicker, and something graceful with far too many legs to be friendly was descending from the treetops.

Torchlight flickered in the distance, drawing the creature to it like a moth to a flame. The creature and its prey were too far, she wouldn't make it in time without expending some major juice. Something she couldn't afford just yet, so instead Ein simply lifted her free hands to her lips and let out a low piercing whistle.

The Forest was entirely too moldy this time of the season, Driftwood quietly pouted to herself from her perch at the top of a tree. Even the cobwebs became sparse up here, the newly sprouted branches too light to support the massive spiders that called this place home. Up here, Ebozon was as much hers as it was the Monsters, a fact that the Drow girl readily took advantage of as she stole from tree to tree.

People had become more active in the woods, rumor of a "Grokk" bringing fortune-seekers from around the countryside were disturbing the local inhabitants. Not that Moonlight minded, general chaos made her job much easier, especially when victims of the creatures attacks were often left damned near comatose. She just wished the person she'd been hired to tail would show up already. This forest stunk, and when high noon rolled around, she had to get too close to the forest floor for her comfort. The sooner she could leave, the better.

A whistle shook Driftwood from her thoughts, her eyes darting about wildly to see if anything else took interest in the noise. Wind howled through the forest, and in the distance a torch-flame flickered. The whistle had come from that direction, the same direction as an angry Female spider descending on what might be her next meal. Drawing her bow, Moonlight thought to herself how odd it was that people are always drawn to the sound of out of place noises in the night, and it was about to get very noisy.

Letting out a calming breath, Moonlight notched an arrow, took aim, and fired it directly at one of the spider's beady eyes. That was all the assistance she could offer right now, and as soon as the arrow was loosed, the Drow vanished back into the Woods.

Makana's confident and thrilled vibe, was drastically interrupted by a loud whistling sound. Dread and alarm instantly replaced the prior, as the half orc whipped around, only to see an arrow whirl past, straight into the beast's eyes.

The arachnid let out an uncomfortably sounding shriek as it fumbled back. Adrenaline rushed through her body as she readied her axe into a more battle ready stance, and darted forward, plunging her axe at the beast. "HAAA!" She cried out as the blow managed to strike at the beast's head, disabling more of its sight.

Her battle cry echoed through the previously quiet forest. Probably not a very stealthy move as another spider jumped down from above, landing directly on her. It's pincers frantically biting at Makana in attempts to paralyse her. Luckily her axe was held strongly between herself and the creature. Unfortunately her torch was released due to being startled. It was good that the other spider as still trying to recollect itself after the second blow, as well as being startled by the fire of her torch.

But now the half orc was in a bit of a pickle. If she could manage to briefly hold on with one hand, and grab her other axe attached by her side, then she could strike again. It was a gamble, and she didn't have much time. It wouldn't be long before the other spider would try and finish her off. Think and decide quickly.
