a character in “The Vampire King Comes to Town”, as played by Rill

Description

Name: Br'nard Even'star
Age: Died around 1066 (Appears to be in his late thirties.)
Gender: Male
Race: Einherjar

Appearance:
Image

Personality:
A rugged, hardened Barbarian with a rough demeanour, savage heart and Warriors spirit, Br'nard is a man who who places little importance in either sbutlety or tact, preferring to meet every challange in his path head on with strength, courage and steel!
Despite his wild nature however, Br'nard also possesses a keen wit and a wicked, mischievous sense of humour, as well as a savage streak of honour, he will never break his word, once it is given, nor abandon those he considers comrades, for within the mighty halls of his home, a Warriors word is considered his bond and loyalty to his tribe valued above all else.

When not in the thick of battle, or off out on some dangerous quest or other, Br'nard can usaly be found at the nearest Tavern, merrily drinking the establishment out of its entire stock of Mead while carousing, heckling the bards, feasting, swapping tales with other adventurers or simply getting involved in a good, old fashioned tavern Brawl!
Br'nard is a simple man of simple pleasures, as are most Norsemen, his favorite things in life being drinking, feasting, good company and battle!

As an Einherjar, Br'nard possesses an almost inherent mistrust for beings such and Angels and a burning hatred for Demons.
He also greatly dislikes Undead creatures, seeing them as cowards because no true Warrior would choose to have his soul remain tethered to Earth when it could be seated within the Halls of Valhalla.
Br'nard does, however, approve of Werewolves, believing their transformation to be a gift from Odin.

Despite his odvious savage streak, Br'nard remains a Stalwart Warrior of great strength and experiance who will never quail in the face of danger and will stand fast till the end.

Weapons & Armour:
Scantly clad in scraps of fur and leather armour, his exposed skin covered in either scars, tattoos or woad the Asgardian cuts a savage sight, and in the way of most Warriors, his weapons are his most valued pocession;
Br'nard is usaly seen weilding either a large two handed Broadsword or a savage double headed battleaxe, he wears both weapons slung across his broad back, sheathed in a fur lined leather battle harness which makes up much, if not all of his upper bodys armour.

Br'nard's sword and axe were forged by the Sons of Ivaldi, a group of Dwarven Smiths who also created Odin's Spear and Thor's Hammer.
The weapons are heavily engraved with ancient Norse runes of strength and protection, as well as those of both ice and fire.

In addition to these weapons, Br'nard also carries a large hunting knife at his belt, as well as a selection of basic wilderness survival equipment, such as flints, feild dressing, a rope & grappel... oh and his hip-flask too, of course!

Abilities:
Contrary to popular belief, the Norse Gods and Warriors of Valhalla are not immortal, they do age and can be slain- indeed many are destined to die in the final battle of Ragnarok which will mark the end of the world as we know it.
They are, however, very strong, long lived and difficult to kill.

Br'nard possesses immense, superhuman strength and endurance as well as accelerated healing and a greatly reduced ageing process-
A Warrior of Rock and Stone, Br'nard is also naturally resistant to magic, in the same way a troll or giant may be, and has extremely keen senses much like those of a wolf... Although he moves more like a bear.

The Einherjar also possesses an unshakable iron will and Warriors heart making him nigh on impossible to mind control, enthral or mentally assault,
However he is very set in his ways (Some would even say predictable) and those of great cunning who know the Barbarians personality and how he responds to different situations may be able to trick or manipulate him.

The Einherjar's Dwarf Forged weapons also bear runes of strength, protection, fire and ice and greatly enhance the strength and power of the wielder.
These Weapons are bonded to Br'nard and can be recalled to his hand at will, however should another Warrior of great worth be able to lift them (And only those who Odin would deem worthy would ever be able to do so) they will bond to their new wielder and bestow their powers to him.

Although getting him to let go of said weapons... Is another matter.

History:

Contrary to their Angel counterparts of Christian Mythology, the Einherjar of Norse mythos are the souls of great Warriors who died bravely in battle, after they fall the Valkyries carry the spirits of these slain heroes across the mighty Bifrost bridge and into the realm of Asguard, where sits the mighty Hall of Valhalla, there Odin's chosen Warriors may drink, feast, train and battle in honour as they await the final conflict of Ragnarok.

Br'nard, in his mortal days, was a great Warrior of much strength, renown and skill, however he was constantly haunted by the savage Demon attack that, when he was a young man, had destroyed his entire Clan, including his mate and newborn son.
Enraged, the young Warrior swore an oath of Vengeance upon Demon kind and promised the souls of his fallen brothers that we would track down the Demon responsible for the slaughter if it took him an eternity!

Even Death has not broken Br'nard from his vow, as he has yet to find the Demon behind the attack on his people and because amongst the Norse 'Oath-breakers' are considered the lowest form of coward, Odin allowed his Warrior to return to earth to pursue his quest, fulfil his vow and finally put the soul of his dead kinsmen to rest!

So now Br'nard walks the Earth once more, seeking out and slaying Demons wherever he finds them he aims, after centuries of searching, to finally locate the Demon responsible for the Death of his people and wreak a terrible and bloody vengeance upon the creature...

And now, this search has led the Einherjar to the small, Canadian town of Elkhunt Ridge...

So begins...

Dark, brooding clouds heavy with rain began to swirl inwards over the darkening forest as the wind began to pick up, causing the tree tops to sway and buckle in the rising gale.

The first loud clap of Thunder heralded the onset of the storm as large, fat raindrops began to pepper down across the forest and town, gradually increasing in speed and torrent until, within a matter of minutes the whole of Elkhunt Ridge was sitting in a sudden downpour.

Thunder clapped again and this time a vivid streak of forked lightning lit up the dark, brooding sky as forest animals and townsfolk alike began to scurry for cover...

Again the lightning flashed and again the thunder roared across the sky as if the entire Wild Hunt was riding across the sky this day.

A third fork of lightning lanced down suddenly, accompanied by another boom of thunder and this time... it struck home!
A small clearing out in the forest was instantly decimated as the lightning struck the earth with a thunderous explosion of white light that sent shock-waves pounding out through the surrounding forest, uprooting trees and scorching undergrowth for a good mile in every direction...

Then there was silence as slowly, the rain began to ease off and suddenly, the sun broke through the centre of the clouds, shining a single, bright beam of light straight down onto the scorched earth of the clearing, where the lightning had struck.

Suddenly, the sunbeam seemed to erupt into a vivid hue of colours as an enormous rainbow streaked down along its length, people watching from the town would later swear they saw in touch down somewhere in the forest...

As suddenly as the vision had appeared, it as gone, the clouds began to drift lazily once more, seemingly absent their former purpose and a dull drizzle began to fall.

Out in the forest... All was still...
Save for the lone figure now kneeling in the centre of the scorched clearing.

Slowly, the figure began to unfold, rising to its feet and stretching to its full height the towering, broad shouldered Warrior shook back his mane of golden hair and opened his eyes...

Br'nard Even'star, chosen Warrior of Valhalla took in his surroundings as he slowly rotated his massive shoulders and thick neck, easing out the kinks before raising his head and sniffing the breeze, much like a wolf scenting its quarry.

This was the right place, the creature he sought was here somewhere and... It was not alone.

The Barbarian grinned a savage grin, the weak sunlight glinting off surprisingly long, sharp canines... A whole town and forest full of supernatural beings.

But only one was the Demon he sought.

The Warriors brows furrowed as above the thunder rumbled again, seemingly reflecting his mood....
The Demon... Or its followers were here somewhere and when he found them... His vengeance would be terrible, the foul creatures would scream in pain and terror for their crimes before he sent their souls screaming back to Hel... Or Hades or Satan or whichever foul deity had manifested them, he cared not.

Stepping forward, The Einherjar strode from the clearing and disappeared between the trees, moving in the direction of Elkhunt...

Damp bracken whipped at large fur and leather boots as Br'nard Even'star strode through the undergrowth, moving ever closer towards his goal.

The Warriors head moved slowly from side to side as he walked, talking in his surroundings and continuing to scent the air like a predator closing in on its quarry.
The forests various animals and other, darker, creatures fled before the Einherjar, or sought to burrow deeper into their hidden lairs, the place seemed eerily quiet and deserted save for the crunch of Br'nard's tread and the dull patter of rain on the canopy above.

Breaking his stride momentarily to vault over a fallen tree with surprising agility for one so large, The Barbarian continued on his path, there were many scents in the damp forest air, including one that smelt distinctly Elfin and another that was something like old bones and dusty rooms...

But neither were the creature he sought, The Demon whose brutal slaughter at his own hand would finally set the departed souls of his Clan to rest.
The Einherjar's frown deepened as he increased his pace... If it was here, he would find it, if not he would track it to the very ends of the Earth...
The Warrior had already waited so long for this day of reckoning...

Emerging from the trees, Br'nard spied two small figures on the road ahead, standing close to one another and apparently deep in conversation.

The Einherjar frowned slightly as he approached, an Elf girl and a Human boy... Neither was the creature he sought.

Raising his eyes to the horizon, The Barbarian predicted himself to be around halfway through the forest, the town lay ahead and with it, perhaps a lead on the Demon he hunted.

Nodding to the pair as he passed, Br'nard strode on down the dirt track towards his destination...

Apparently the three beings in the clearing had been too wrapped up in their own little dramas to notice the towering form of the Barbarian walk right through their midst;
Br'nard wondered briefly how such blind creatures managed to survive in a forest full of predators... Not to mention with the possibility of a powerful Demon presence in town...

This 'Elkhunt' would be easy pickings for any would be Warlord of that there could be no doubt.

Leaving the seemingly blind trio behind him, The Barbarian pushed on between the tree trunks as the forest began to thin out on all sides, up ahead, the skyline of the town came into view...

She felt all the more uneasy the longer she stood there, helpless, against a flimsy door. Ikiluk looked in the direction of the clearing, squinting to attempt to see further. It was pointless. Her thoughts began to drift to lack of sleep; her mind had to be playing tricks on her.

She ran a hand through her hair, glancing back up at the sky. It was hard to think that, in that little town, thousands of little scenarios were playing out at that very moment, some connected to others, and others connected to none. She had a bad feeling, but there was nothing she could do about it at the moment. Her scenario would just have to be executed without hesitation.

Ikiluk pushed herself away from her door and slowly walked down a road, taking in her surroundings. She felt like she should have fled the area, as she had so many times, but there really was no fun in that. Every fleeing led to her being alive and well, in a new small town, living a new life. Maybe she had just eaten something odd. Whatever it was, she was sure that it would pass.

Br'nard paused in his stride as another figure appeared on the track ahead, this time walking towards the Einherjar, apparently lost to the world.

The Warrior tilted his head to one side as he watched the girl approach, he could tell she was not human but beyond that...

Br'nard inhaled deeply once more, scenting the air, there was a sense of magic about this creature, perhaps a skin changer of some type?

The Warrior sniffed again... Ah Water sprite he decided, silently, the same creature that had once warned the Hero Sigurd during his great saga.

Standing in the centre of the path, legs planted firmly apart, The Barbarian waited for the girl to draw closer before raising a hand in greeting,

"Hail Nixe,"

He greeted her with a nod, before jerking his head towards the distant rooftops of Elkhunt,

"Do ye ken much about the town over yonder?"

Ken. The corners of Ikiluk's lips twitched up as she came to a stop. That was one (easy) way to break her from her train of thoughts. The old language wasn't lost on her, but it was more comfortable, for her, to use modern speech patterns. She simply hoped the stranger understood her words as well as she understood his.

"Yes." Ikiluk inclined her head in confirmation. Greetings seemed like too much trouble for the moment. Ken, if she wasn't mistaken, came from the Scots, but whether or not the male in front of her was Scottish was another story completely.

He clearly wasn't human, or, at least clearly to her. She wasn't exactly sure what he was, but, the longer she stayed near him, the more she was sure that he wasn't exactly there. He was clearly there, physically, mentally, enough to have a presence and intelligence, but there was just something not right about him.

Ikiluk began to think back to Norse Mythology, being Norse herself. Einherjar briefly passed through her mind, but she tossed it aside. It was silly to think that he was an einherjar, just because she was a nixe -- yet another creature of Norse Mythology.

Br'nard looked the Nixe up and down as he folded large arms across a broad chest...

After a moments silence, the Warrior tilted his head slowly to one side and continued to peer at the Rhinemaiden, the elusive creatures were known to be helpful to travellers only when it suited them... And often the old legends had them down as tricksters and temptresses.

Finally, Br'nard shrugged his broad shoulders and stepped past her, knowing that if she intended to give him a proper answer she would have done so by now.

"Till we meet again then, Rhinemaiden,"

The Einherjar spoke by way of farewell as he passed the Sprite upon the path and resumed his measured stride towards the town, the rooftops of which loomed ever closer now through the gathering dusk.

Br'nard Even'star stepped from the eves of the forest and strode out into the edge of town, following the dusty track towards the small settlements centre.

All seemed quiet as dusk began to fall, the Einherjar's boots scraped over the cobbles as he walked slowly through the rapidly deserting streets... there was a certain fear in the air here.

The Barbarian frowned, something about this settlement did not feel right... A sure sign that his Quarry could well be nearby...

Br'nard paused as his keen eyes spied movement, a small, dripped we slip of a girl was standing in the centre on the street, apparently mesmerised by something she was seeing...

The Einherjar's brows bunched like thunder heads as he spotted it, the tall dark figure swooping down towards the girl, cape billowing, eyes ablaze and fangs exposed...
Only one creature moved like that...

"Hold bloodsucker!"

Even'stars voice rang out across the street as above, the thunder grumbled in response.

The Einherjar took strode forward and positioned himself between the girl and the predator.

"Try me instead."

He growled, his eyes blazing like twin chips of burning ice as they fixed themselves upon the soulless, scarlet sockets of the creature...

Br'nard threw back his head and howled a battle cry up at the rising moon as the Vampire leapt, its blade flashing in a blinding dance of speed and skill!

Dropping to one shoulder, Even'star rolled heavily out of the path of his foes attack, coming swiftly back up to his feet a few paces away.

Reaching back, The Einherjar gripped the haft of his battleaxe and unsheathed the weapon in a flash of Dwarven steel!

Grasping his axe firmly in a two handed grip, Br'nard powered forward on the attack, bringing the mighty weapon up and cleaving it down in one mighty stroke-
Aiming just to the side of his foes head, The Einherjar looked to shatter the vampires collar bone and hew him to the dust in one, fell, savage blow..!

Br'nard raised an eyebrow as he watched the creature reform, so not a Vampire then... Perhaps some sort of Changling...?

Leaning back, The Barbarian allowed the blade to scour him across the chest, leaving a vivid, bloodied trench running across Br'nard's bare torso.

Locking eyes with the creature, The Einherjar grinned savagely as his own wound began to heal, the flesh knitting together before the very eyes of his attacker.

If there was one thing a Viking knew how to do, it was boast...

Now Br'nard's eyes narrowed as he circled his opponent, looking for an opening....
Gripping his massive, two handed battle axe tightly, the Barbarian swung it up to the side once more... And this time there was an explosion of light...

The runes etched along the axe head began to glow a vivid crimson as tendrils of white hot flame began to flicker across the blade, as if it were coated in burning oil...

The flames suddenly whipped up in a sudden gust of wind as tendrils of fire began to wind down Br'nard's arms and flicker across his body....
Shadows danced as the Einherjar seemed to grow in stature, his muscles swelling and veins standing out along his arms in stark relief...

Suddenly, Br'nard bought the Battleaxe crashing down onto the cobbles of the street which instantly began to bubble and melt as, with a mighty roar a great wave of fire sprang from the point of impact and surged towards the Vampire in an onrushing torrent of flaming fury...!

Nerwen
Nerwen sat by her window and looked out to see a giant fire. "Oh the gods are making this day entertaining." She opened her window and climbed onto the roof. She ran along the rooftops, jumping from roof to roof. She then dropped down, manipulating the air to stop her fall. She landed and ran to what she thought was a safe distance, it was 2 men fighting. The sense of norse magic from the giant made her left ear twitch and she could sense death and darkness from the other man.

Well, this was different. Kul watched in silence as the man from before fought a rather large brutish looking man... much like his Krell only with flesh. The other girl from before simply stared like before, would she flee? Would she interfere? This was not a fight someone should get involved with as a normal man would die in seconds cleaved in two by either of these men. It was none of his concern, but moving would attract attention, and he had no real desire to be dragged into their combat, so there he stood.

He sensed a flair of magic that came from a different direction, and so he turned his head spotting the same elf girl from before. He lifted the cane and used it to wave at her, not sure if she could see him or not, but he felt it was best, also if she was closer, he could be sure to protect her if things got rough. It would be a fair trade, ensuring she did not get hurt in return for the flowers.

The trees showed everything within a 20 Kilometer radius. A battle, a battle, destruction. It whispered in his ears. Dark one is here, cursed one. This confused him but he looked further into it, not even paying attention to Kanaye walking away. There were two men fighting, one massive, the other....different. He then teleports himself 20 meters away. "Thisss will make a sssuperb view." He said as he began to watch the battle.

Alone again. Ikiluk inclined her head just a bit and turned, walking a ways behind the barbarian. Though neither of the forces she felt were particularly comforting, the one from last night left her feeling strangely vulnerable. She hadn't felt like that in over a century; the nix still had yet to decide if this was bad or not.

She came across the scene of two figures and the barbarian -- whose name still remained a mystery to her -- and she backed off, settling in a place to watch the fight. She had heard legends of those who would fight non-human creatures for "higher beings", but never had she seen an actual fight. This was a once in a hundred life-time chance, and she was going to take it.

Again, her eyes drifted to the figures, particularly the girl. She felt her heart drop. Would she get hurt in the crossfire? Was it worth it to help her? Perhaps not. Ikiluk straightened her posture from her watching place and tensed in preparation to run. To fetch her or not to fetch her was a difficult question.

Mentally hitting herself, Ikiluk edged around the fighting duo and went to Leli, giving her no time to ask questions. She tugged her away from the fight. There was no telling how bad it would become with divine and darkness fighting. The clash was older than any of the creatures in the town, and it wasn't her place to leave someone in the middle.

The Undead creatures exploded into flaming pillars of dust upon impact with the Asguardian flames, but Br'nard sensed his quarry was not amongst them...

Frowning, the Barbarian turned... Just in time to take the Vampires clawed hand straight through the stomach!
Grunting in pain as blood sprayed across the cobbles in a vivid crimson mist, Br'nard gripped the Vampires wrist and pulled, attempting to draw his foe in closer...

As he pulled, The Einherjar grinned as the Asguardian flames dancing from the head of his axe and over his flesh began to spread up the Vampires arm, the writhing tendrils burning hotter than the fires of Muspelheim itself....

Even'star bought the axe down hard with his free arm, aiming for the Counts chest as all around, the fire flared into life once more, engulfing the two combatants..!

The Einherjar grinned savagely through bloodied teeth as he flocked eyes with his opponent once more...

"Aye nor me,"
The Warrior replied,
"Br'nard Even'star they used tae call me... An' yourself?"

Gripping his axe haft tight in his right hand, The Warrior reached back with his left and slowly drew his Broadsword from its back-sheath with a soft hiss of steel on leather....

The air began to cool rapidly as the onlookers breath began to mist in the air, blue runes were now glowing along the length of the sword as hoarfrost began to form along the blade...

Br'nard sensed a movement behind him, turning, he sighted the skinny, oriental boy from earlier in the forest standing with the Elf and the girl he had stepped in to prevent becoming feed for the Vampire...

The Viking nodded to the Samurai,

"Get the civilians clear,"
He grunted, before swinging his gaze back to the Vampire.

"Ye avoided Muspelheim's fire, Vampire... Care to feel the ice of Jotunheim?"

The Einherjar asked, eyes blazing like twin chips of burning frost...

"HA!"

Br'nard scoffed as the hound flew at him,

"Fenrir would eat that little runt fer breakfast!"

The Einherjar plunged his sword down into the earth, splitting the cobbles as frost began to spread out from the point of impact...

As the great dog flew closer, jaws open to devour its prey... Br'nard wrenched his sword back up at the very last moment, causing a huge wall of ice to erupt between him and the Hound!

Bringing his axe to bear, the flames ignited once more as the runes glowed crimson and a second later, the wall of ice was ablaze, wreathed in fire but unmelting..!

With a mighty clash, Br'nard bought the two weapons together, causing the ice wall to explode with immense force, sending savage shards of burning ice ripping through the air towards the leering forms of the gigantic Hound and its foul master...

Sahlidain watched as the two fought, evenly matched. It seemed as though if they kept fighting on like this then the entire town would be destroyed. Annoyed he began to walk toward the two who were determined to duke it out. He waved his hand, summoning an invisible wall of pure force between the two so that they would listen."Excccussse me but isss there even a reassson for your fighting? If your not going to finish this quickly then could you both just go deeper into the forest?" He suggested, weaving some magic into his silver tongue. Sahlidain had always excelled at the art of speech.

"Aye,"

Br'nard stepped forward, shouldering his axe with one hand and resting the other on the pommel of his Broadsword.

"We shall finish this battle someday, Vlad, but ye will not feed 'ere tonight."

The Einherjar's brows furrowed as he glared at the Count.

"Time tae leave, Impaler."
